Edit 07.15.11: Added weights
Hit up the pennichuck bridge last night Went for a walk with pole and a popr. i didnt have a measure or a scale these are the 3 biggest. not bigger than 2 1/2 but still a fish, all on a top water popr.
do they get more aggressive before a storm? the thunder and lightning had started but never got too close so i stayed and fished. they started hitting real hard and aggressive a few minutes after the first set of thunderboomers

In theory the bite should pick up before a storm as the barometric pressure drops - they say this "pre-frontal" condition is supposed to be some of the best fishing.
I had a good weekend of lots of small largemouth at naticook. it was loads of fun with the kids. nothing bigger than 2 lbs , also had a good weekend on shore in the pennichcuck. Unfortunatly my cell phone with pics is somewhere at the bottom of naticook.

Looks like a 10 lbs bag will win...ROFL
Sounds to me like bringing a tape measure in your tackle box could win you a tournament. People are catching but not measuring. This could be an easy win. C'mon guys, right now size doesn't matter. Lets get some fish on the board.
Top water bite has been non-existent here in SW Ohio. Been trying 3-4 time a week weather dependent. Finally broke through last night. Tiny torpedo, Heddon, nice LMB 16.5 inches long, 9 inches girth. I'm on the board.
As for the fishing, I’ve been slaying them with a Carolina rigged worm almost every time out. Just not into the top water or I'm leaving to go to bed before they are hitting.
Well, looks like it's time to hit my secret spot after work today and take hold of this tourney by the balls. Got by PB there WITH a Pop-R....never underestimate the Pop-R...EVER!
EDIT: I know I am being a stickler but pics with length should absolutely be mandatory....I may buy the winner a BR deal or something like that. Which will probably be me buying one for myself...Bring it on!

Hey guys, birdy did this perfect. this is all that is required as far as posting your catches. Lure - Length - Girth
birdy, you'll see your weight in post #1. I'll juggle 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc when we get more posted weight.

Nah, you will be buying me one, lol. I got my spot, just need a real hot and humid day like we had a couple weeks ago. Bass at my spot go crazy for topwater on days like that.
Finally managed 1 on topwater.
13", 1.3 lbs on the fish calculator
Hand poured frog
I'm on the board... 13.5 inches, 7 girth LMB. Nice little LMB on a Rebel Pop-r last night.
Fishing calc says 1.25 pounds which seems right. Was getting dark and I was getting eaten alive so I was rushed.
I wish this one had come on topwater but alas Fat IKA strikes again.
Well at least the ball is rolling.
backwater4, thanks for posting your catch and I did enter it in the standings above, but please in the future include the girth measurement. If that fish was a 5 lber, I wouldn't have put that in. Thanks and keep catching fish.
I forgot all about this. I'll be out early Sunday morning, talk to ya when I get back.
On the board suckas, got a pic but having trouble getting it from my phone to la computadora.
(good idea to carry a tape measure when fishing)
13.6 inches....8.1 girth. My crappy scale sucks, said it was .5 pounds (bull crap) but the 1.46879999LB that the fish calc came up with seems more accurate.
Caught it on a SPRO Bronze-eye at Long Pond in Lakeville on 6/26/11
Not the fish I wanted to start the tourney off with, but better than nothing. More to come.
Woohoo I'm on to board and taking the lead with 19x13 LMB caught on ole faithfull scumfrog. I used some fishing math tacken from the BPS calculator because my phone won't let me use the BR one but using L x L x W / 1200 gives it a weight of 3.91083333333....... I got pics that I will try to post but lately it hasn't let me but I can email them to whoever wants proff and they can post pics if you would like
*edit* got on the BR calc it says 4.6lbs!!! But honestly it wasn't 4 and a half pounds I can see 4 lbs closer to the BPS calc weight but its your call BPS calc weight of 3.9 or BR calc of 4.6
clayton86, it's 3.9 lbs for you, Mister! LOL...I plugged you in for the 4.6 lbs.
Seriously, we all agreed that we'll be using the BR calc...NICE CATCH!
Thanks I lost 4 others about the same size on the frog as well 2 on a stanley ribbit 2 on the spro so I switched to a white and red scum frog and landed the first 2 that bit that one was the bigest the other messured 17x10. Got em in a back creek channel little coves over grown with pads and grass. Bass were up shallow and pike were on a mad patrol on the edges in deeper water edging the cove. I got 3 goodsized bass and 2 crazy pike that destroyed my booyah spinner
I finally have time to fish tomorrow and Saurday...I will be posting a catch if it kills me...LOL
Enjoy the 4th weekend all!
I thought I was gonna hit it outa the park last night me and the nephew hit our secret hole loaded with a very healthy population of bass with some brutes in there. But none of the big girls came out to play I caught 20+ on the rage shad all in the 2 ta 3lb range. Man did they fight good and they all were fat chunkers looked like they were bout to spawn a 2nd time. I doubt they were they were busting minnows all over the place they just like to eat there.
I've had some great luck with the Kelly J lately but nothing worth posting. I'm heading into Bucketmouth land tonight so lets see if we can find a lunker!
Last year I was killing them on topwater, now I can't even get a legal size fish...man, this stinks, I waited all winter for this?
The topwater bite has completly stoped here the other week I caught 20+ on the rage shad and other top waters now my past 2 outings to my secret hole have been big goose eggs on the topwater and all my bites are coming from cranks and spinners I even got a 6.5lber last time on a rage anaconda after working the area with a spook and buzzbait I could cried but oh well still tied with me pb for the year just not topwater
I had this wake follow my spook jr, so I followed it up with a tube.
20"L x 13"G: Would have been a nice way to get on the board....LOL
Oh well, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any.
Epic night of smallie fishing here including my PB smallie this year on a buzzjet!
20.5" L x 12" G = 4.94 pound blockheaded monster. Didn't snap a pic as it was pretty much pitch black and I only had my phone. But what a fish.
Very nice Wanderlust. That'll get the heart pumping!

It was the most epic night of fishing for me ever. 53 smallies in 3 hours with 5+ being 18" or better. I went through (2) bags of bait & caught (7) at dusk with the buzzjet and Kelly J.
Was truly a great night to be fishing.

Oh Man! Those days seem to be few and far between for me, when you get them, it's hard to leave the bite...Great job Wanderlust! Glad you had one of those nights, must have been a great stress reliever for you.
What's going on Jersey. I caught a, 1.5lb on a Jitterbug.
Fished a tournament out of Missisquoi Bay on Champlain yesterday. I got a 3.8lb (weighed at weigh in) Largemouth on a Stanley Ribbit. We boated 35 Largemouth 1.5-3.5 lbs it was a crazy crazy day TruTungsten Frogs, Rage Shad, Ribbits and Timber King Spoons were the hot topwater baits. 1.5-5 FOW. I also pounded them by flipping T-Rigs but don't hold that against me
Side note, a guy weighed in a 5.21lb Smallmouth what a BEAST!!!!
I caught a monster last night on a rage shad but I didn't measure it like a dummy I completly forgot and was so stoked it was longer then the top of the canoe was wide my nephew weighed it with his rapala digital scale it came across at 7lbs even but I didn't measure it so it no counts but man was she purty and faught good. I got pics they turned out crapy it was late and the flash on our phones suck. But I found the fish and I will be back to measure and take better pics I had a 20lb bag easy last night with my top 5 but only 1 was topwater it was the biggest
Is it just me or has the topwater bite disapeared no mater where I throw it and when I don't get bit now. I got 1 like 2 weeks ago but it was a dink
Not just you...last year I would have started culling a week into this, this year I can't get a sniff on topwaters.
No way! Every morning I fish, from around 4:00, to about 5:30, I cannot keep the bass off my Black Neon Rage Shad. About a week ago, I had 18 fish ranging from 1.5 to 5lbs all in under an hour and a half. So fun! You guys are lucky I keep forgetting about this little contest. I actually wouldn't stop to measure them anyway when that kind of bite is on. Good luck to you all, though.
It's been HOT and Bright up here. The TW bite is tough this year for sure, when they are active they aren't fully commiting to the hits. Hopefully it will get better.
Didnt have tape measure on me.
Using an Anaconda that Jones gave me at the last get together: Thanks pal!
EDIT: was adjusting over exposure and decided to mess with photoshop, floating hand rofl.
Sewing tape measures are a dollar...at Wal-Mart...put one in your tackle box...who knows when you might catch another fish...

So I just got back from Champlain and caught a ton of fish...but...there I was...in the back of Carry Bay and it was calm...and it was first thing in the morning on an overcast day...So I got out my buzzin' frog and started tossin' it over the Lilies and thru the reeds...Slam!!! a Bowfin missed the lure...three casts later a 2lb Pike came to the boat...15 casts later an 11" Largemouth got a waterski lesson...and that was that.
grampa
In the past month I think iv caught 1 on the frog and that was yesterday and I wasn't even fishing lol. I had the pole hanging over the edge of the canoe paddling out into the main body the scum frog was just over hanging on 2ft of slack like and bam a 14incher slams it I didn't even touch the pole just grabed him by the back pulling him in
Man, I can't even buy a topwater fish. Hopefully this week is the week.
This Morning I figured I'd throw a few on the board. I caught a bunch in the 2lb range, and figured I could cull some of them, but only landed one bigger one, and lost one more monster (probably a 6 or better), all on the Rage Shad this morning (black neon in the dark, and gr pump/chart once it got brighter. Here's my 4 for now. All calculated on the BR fish weight calculator (which is light on bigger fish, because my biggest one today was actually a 5-9). When does this thing end? Anyway, ended with 18 fish today, and 9 of those were on the Shad. Have fun out there, guys!
L=14.75" G=11.5" Weight=2.45 lbs
L=14" G=10.5" Weight=2.02 lbs
L=18" G=15.25" Weight=4.84 lbs (fatty!)
L=14" G=10" Weight=1.92 lbs (skinny)

Nice job man!
nice fish , my boys are going to help me post some soon. I have the same marks on my canoe and jon boat. never loose a ruler and always handy. i put the marks on all 3 seats all the way to 36 inchs. dreaming of the big one.
Finally got 2 fish to hit my topwater: 1 was a pickeral and the other, a bass, was an inch and a half longer than my Spook Jr. I didn't have anything small enough to get a girth measurement...LOL does that qualify?
I'll be back on the water tonight to round out my limit, and cull all the little guys hopefully. I'll post up the results tomorrow, because it's gonna be a long night. Get on 'em, everyone! Hey, when does this wrap up, anyway?
Labor Day unless you all want an extension.
Here's one to round out my limit at least before this thing ends.

Hey Jigfishin10....who won?
By the way...you're welcome to come this Saturday to Mashpee...but I hope you already knew that.
Grampa
Shane J by a land slide...I think peeps forgot about this tourney or lost interest...LOL
I had the worst topwater fishing year in my life...On the plus side I caught a limit (5) on the Wednesday following Labor day and one tipped in at a lil better than 3 lbs...oh well, I was always late for the party.
I know about Mashpee, but it sounds like you all have a problem with too many non-boaters as it is and all I'll be doing is adding to the problem. There will hopefully be other outings. From a work standpoint, things have gotten better for me, so hopefully I can shed one of my 3 jobs and free up for these things in the future.
Thanks anyway Grandpa, much appreciated.
Congratulations to Shane J for the win and Jigfishin10 for the running of a comfortable, honest event. Looking foreward to winning next year.

Hey, thanks. It was fun, and will definitely do it again if you all do it next year, and maybe I won't forget about it for most of the thing. On a side note... I'm heading out in a little bit with the full moon, and expect the topwater bite to be ON FIRE!!! Good times!

Would like to do it as well, but I think I will be doing it with a select group next year. Thanks Shane J, congrats, you really deserved it.
