I'm trying to put together a little get together/mini tourney for anyone who wants to meet up on Friday, May 14, 2010. I was thinking of doing it at Hopkinton Lake, Frankiln Pience Lake, or Powder Mill Pond. They are all big lakes with good ramps and plenty of parking. Franklin Pierce and Powder Mill also have plenty of space for a BBQ after we are done fishing, or we can head to a local spot for food and drinks.
I've actually only fished Hopkinton Lake out of all of those, but they all have very diverse fisheries and good reputations.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you want to come. My boat is probably full, but I think others may have some room.
Tight lines everyone!
Jay I may be able to do it. Are we going early morning? Those work best for me. I'll see if I can get Nashua Fisherman to go also. Let me know.
Jay, the 13th is a Thuresday, and unfortunately I cant make it that Friday. Too bad, cuz I wanna hook up with you all and do some Fishing! I'm sure you guys will have a blast.
Friday sounds good for me, my boat wont be ready for then but if anyone has an open seat and doesn't mind count me in.
-matt-
That friday sounds good to me. Powderhill pond has my vote, but I don't really care which lake you choose. I've got an open seat if someone needs a ride
I'm up for the morning or afternoon unhbass. If morning works better for people, I'm always ready to go eary AM.
Sorry Shane!!!!! Maybe we can meet up another time??
QuoteI'll see if I can get Nashua Fisherman to go also. Let me know
what day/time are we talking about? definetly interested.

Friday May 14, 2010. not sure on the time..maybe 7:00am start time?
i need to know if this is a sure thing since i need to give 7 working days notice to take a day off from work and dont want to waste a vacation day.
the last time we tried to organize one of these i bought a bunch of stuff for the after party/bbq and it got cancelled at the last minute.
Jay could we plan it a later aound 9:30am? I will be traveling from Nashua and don't get out of work till 6:30am and will need to travel up there.
Tom do you want to come in my boat?
yes.
Hey Guys,
9:30am is fine with me. We could even push it to 10:00am if that makes it easier for you.
This is a sure thing. If the lake we pick has issues, there are a few more lakes within a 10 to 15 minute drive that we could go to. All have good fishing, and I live across from a pond as well.
I'm leaning heavily towards Powder Mill Pond or Franklin Pierce Lake. The access road to Hopkinton Lake had a closed sign on it on Monday.
If we do it at Franklin Pierce, we can head ove to my place after for food/drinks. If we end up doing it at Powder Mill Pond, we can head to a little pizza place in Peterborough or Antrim after.
Awesome Jay. Should be a fun time, Even if I don't catch anything LOL. As we get closer to the date is it possible to PM me the directions?
Derek
I can do that.
Both lakes are also easy to get to..and I'm sure you will catch something. You'll probably end up catching the monster of the day!!
So far we have:
me and Matt W. in my boat
wagn- with open seat possibly with Matt-who needs a seat
Derek and Tom- Same boat
That's it so far. Hopefully we can get a few more folks, but if not, I'm still planning on it.

Yeah I still feel bad about how that worked out.
Sorry
Anyways, I'm in for sure. Either lake is fine by me. Powdermill is closer, plus i know where it is, but I'm always up for new lakes in the area.
Matt let me know if you want a seat on my boat (bassmaster) if you are coming. I sent you a message as well
Yeah ill be there, Thanks for the seat Wagn!
-matt-
Jay my wife just told me there MAY be a conflict with my sons sports and the fishing, but I will know more at a later date. I will do my best to get there.
Hey Jay, have you ever fished Franklin Pierce before?
I just looked at the map on the fish and game website. It looks like a great lake, but it says no public access.
Those maps aren't always right, that map could be 20 years old for all i know.
But I just want to make sure we can all get in the water without any problem
Yeah, they say "no public access" because the park/launch is supposedly only for Hillsboro town residents. It's actually a paved launch with a dock!!!!
I've never launched there, but I've fished froom shore and caught a LMB. I was at the launch a couple weeks ago and the water level was too low and the dock was not in. I'm going to head back over there later next week to see where things stand.
unhbass..do you know when you will know if you have a conflict? I can change the weekend if you do, but I just wanted to it early enough not to cause problems. I just want to make it easy on Tom.
Regardless, I"ll be fishing that day and everyone who wants to can join me!!
Jay to be honest I think there will be a conflict. I have two boys who are very active in sports and it is tough for me to get out at times. It's get alot better for me at the end of June. I think it may be best for you guys to go on the date you planned. Hopefully we could do another one sometime in late June or whenever. I really appreciate you tring to make it work for me.
No problem man. Family first!!
Tom are you still in? I know you and unhbasss were going to share a boat.
If it's easier, we can change it to later in the summer. I just wanted to hit the spawn together as a group, but we can change things to get everyone included. I know there was another person thart could not make the date.
But like I said before, I'll be out fishing that day, and everyone that can is welcome to join me.
That would be great. Let me know what you all decide. Thanks Jay
I'm going to be fishing anyway Jay. Let's just get as many people as we can and we can always do it again.
I think this is much better then the tourney I tried to plan. Keep is simple and just fish
sounds interesting to say the least, may just be worth checking out , ill know more as the days get closer to that date,,,,
Sounds good wagn! Let's make this fairly solid right now:
Rain or Shine : Friday May 14, 2010 at Powder Mill Pond in Greenfield. Fishing from 8:ooam to 2:00pm. We can go later if everyone wants to. I know I'll fish all day long if given to opportunity and good weather
Let's meet no later than 7:30am at the launch/parking area. I can make the times later if people are still going to travel from the Nashua area.
If people want to, we can go to Rick and Diane's Brick Oven Pizza in Antrim afterwards. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Sounds great Jay.
I also live about 5 minutes from Powdermill. So that works great for me.
8:00am. I'll be there ready to fish
I made the meetup tiine 7:30am and the start time 8:00am now so Tom and his fishing partner can get some extra time on the water because he may have to leave earlier than 3:00pm. the stop time has changed to 2:00pm, but I'll stay later if others want to.
Please let me know if these times do not work for anyone. Glad to see you'll have a short drive wagn!
7:30 is still good
Hey Guys,
After going to Powder Mill Pond this past weekend, I was thinking of changing it to another place that has more numbers of bass. There are some good ones in there, but I''m wondering if we should go to Hopkinton Lake instead. The access is open, and it gives us the chance to catch numbers as well as pull in a monster. It would also make the trip a little shorter for the Nashua guys.
Wagn, this would probably affect you the most because it will make your drive a lot longer. Please let me know if you have any strong objections.
Sorry to be flip-flopping on this. I like Powder Mill Pond, but I'm a little afraid it could be tough to catch them there with the amount of pressure it gets and how oddly contoured it is. Also, if someone does not have a good sized motor, they could be at a real disadvantage to even get all the way out to the pond.
Jay where is hopkinton lake? I can't seem to find it on the fish and game website or on google maps.
Does it have a different name?
I think it's also (incorrectly) called Stumpfield Marsh, and I just found that it's also called Evertt Lake (not that I had heard before, but...). Part of it is the lake you drive over when you take exit 5 off of Route 89 North. There is a lot more on the right hand side of Route 9 heading west that you cannot see through the trees. It also opens up the possibility of fishing Stumpfield Marsh as well because it's just across the street. Hopkinton Lake the main lake that Drew lake is the overflow for.
Here is a link: http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/hel/helhome.htm
Fish and Game does not have a link to it. I'm not sure why. It's in Clarks on page A-54 of the 2003 edition.
It's got crappie, as well as LMB's. I actually caught a huge crappie (pictured below) there one night. I've only fished it once, but I know people have good luck there.
I'm still open to Powder Mill as well. It does seem like a good spawn lake, but it's bigger than I thought. It could be tough for Tom if he does not have a gas motor.
looks like ill be taking my lil' 10' jonboat since i can not get a definitive answere from my niebor about getting him to go in his boat. my "big motor" is a 2.2hp merc, but ive been to lake massabesic and the merrimack river in it so im not afraid of big water as long as theres no chop. not sure what you guys are running but im sure ill be hugging the shore if the water is ruff.
would anyone be oppossed to fishing the piscateqog river or glen lake? ultimately ill fish whatever the group decides.
Hey Nashua.... The piscatequog is having water level problems again. I wouldn't rec fishing there right now.
I've been to Glen lake once, and really had a tough time of it. It seemed like a bowl of sand, with no good structure that I could find. I could of had a bad day, but I just couldn't figure that place out.
The problem with Powdermill isn't the chop, it's the fact that the lake is way down a channel, but with at 2.2 you'd get down it eventually, it would just take longer then my 25hp, or Jay's 90 of course.
Jay...I'm fine with hopkinton. I'm going to try and check it out myself. I think i stopped there once a couple of years ago, and they had the ramp closed for some reason, but i saw people on it this weekend, I think, when I was driving by there. I'm assuming it's fine to fish now.
Yeah, I saw someone out there on a nice Triton on Sunday. The ramps must be open again.
I've only launched a jon boat fromn there, but there is a great ramp at Elm Brook State Park (on the other side of the lake I think). I think there is also a great ramp right off Stumpfield Road (Clarks says so anyway) .
Tom, I think this place will be a lot closer for you. Alll you have o do is get on The Everett Tpke North, follow 293 to 93N, get on Route 89N in Concord and get off at exit 5. Hopkinton Lake would be about 1 mile off the exit. I'd be up for fishing the Pisq. River, but I'd prefer to pick a place with a really stable water level.
o.k.
hopkinton sounds good. wich launch will we be meeting at?
I'm gonna do a drive by and check out the scene soon. i"ll let everyone know ASAP!!
OK. Just got back from driving by Hopkinton-Everett Lake. I think it will do just fine for us. Might be a lot easier to fish than Powder Mill Pond. It's got deper and shallower sections. Could be real interesting.
It's pretty big, but it looks absolutely huge. There are several different areas to fish, the launch is adequate. It's a narrow ramp made of concrete blocks.
From Nashua: Take Everett Tpke North to 293 North to 93 North through Manchester, to 89 North. Take Exit 5 off of Route 89 North on the left, and after you go over the bridge, take Stumpfield Road on the right (approx 1 mile).
Follow Stumpfield Road and you will see a sign that read "Stumpfield Boat Launch".
Follow the road and take a left when you see the boat ramp sign. The ramp is about .2 miles on the right with parking for 20 rigs.

See y'all friday at 7:30am!! I think we will be having some spawn action if we are lucky!
we wont be able to make it to the launch until 8:00am. we will definetly be there though unless its windly like today.
we went ther today to check it out. threw a couple spinnerbaits from the launch and pulled up some weeds. we have actualy fished here before from the shore. looking forward to meeting everybody.
who's going?
No problem with 8:000am.
It's just your boat, my boat and wagns boat with bassmaster. I may have a an old friend from VT coming with his own boat, but I doubt it.
I also may have an open seat in my boat. My partner for the day was unemployed and recently got a job that starts Friday. I have no problem fishing alone, but there is an open seat on the nitro.
See everyone at 8:00am at the launch. Pray for sunshine and low winds!!
I'm heading out tomorrow night for D.C, so I hope you guys have a great time out there, and catch some nice one's. I've heard good things about that place. Good luck, everyone!
Just trying to make sure i have the correct directions is this about where the launch is?

Yeah, but that is showing "A" as being on the other side of the road. You want to exit onto Stumpfield Road on the other side of the road. Stumpfield Road crosses Route 9/202
If you are comiong off of Route 89 North or South, you want to take a right onto Stumpfield Road, and follow the road to the boat launch signs after you hit the dirt road.
If you are coming from Route 9/202 from the West (Keene, Hillsboro, Henniker), you want to take a left onto Stumpfield Road.
On that map you can see actually see where the launch is. follow that Road "A" is on north across the street and you can see where it bends to the left. The launch is about a 1/4 mile after that bend if you take the left.

Good luck tomorrow boys. Wish I could join you. Maybe we can do another one this summer.
just got back from hopkinton pond. we caught 9 pickeral and threw everything too, senkos, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and even swimbaits. the other guys did better than us but we still had a great time. it was nice meeting you guys. nice boats. were ready to do it again when you are. nice body of water and not as big as we thought. anyways heres the first two fish we caught. did you guys get any pictures? any stump marks on the nitro?
Thanks for putting this together Jay. I had a really great time. We should try and do this again sometime next month.
Matt and I did pretty well today. 7 bass, 2 crappie, 1 perch, and a bunch of pickeral.
The largest bass was 2lbs 15oz.
and the smallest was smaller then a 4 inch senko.
Here are a few of the pics I took
Nice pics!
I'm glad everyone had a good time and caught fish. The big bonus was that the rain held off and it was no too wndy for most of the day.
No stump marks on the nitro..thank goodness. That place is Prop Buster Centeral.
I ended up catching 5 bass, and a crappie. All on t-rigged watermelon senkos. No pickeral, and I think that's weird!!
My biggest bass was around 2.5 pounds. I'll post the pics later.
Let's def. do it again soon!!
Sounds like you all had a blast. Let me know if you decide to do it again.
My biggest bass was around 2.5 pounds. Here she is:

Sounds like everyone had fun. I have yet to fish yet this year, but I have a little free time Sunday and Monday so I'm hoping to dig out the fishing stuff tomorrow and head out either tomorrow and/or Monday, I'll post if I go. Hopefully we can do another get together later on this summer.
Yeah thanks for putting this together jay! Everyone caught fish and we had good weather, it was a good time. Im up for another one!
-matt-
Thanks guys! I think we should do it again sometime this summer around July/August. Maybe we can do it here in Hillsboro and use Franklin Pierce Lake. The launch is in, and it has a dock. Plus there is aa nice beach areaa for wives and kids who do not want to fish.
The lake is really big and has lots of fish. The launch parking is for Hillsboro reisdents and guests. I live in Hillsboro, so that works.
I'll post something when we get closer. I'm glad everyone had a good time!
Why not do one in July and August? I mean it's just meeting up for fishing.
Worst case only a couple people can make it and you just fish with less people?
When do we want to schedule one for July?
QuoteI'll post something when we get closer. I'm glad everyone had a good time!
im in but i need to give 7 working days notice to take a vacation day.
