Hey guys,
Anyone up this way interested in picking a day or weekend and meeting up in Erie this Spring?
We all talk about Erie so much, maybe it's time to do this!
I really don't have any days in mind yet, just seeing if there is an interest. If we do this, I'd say sometime in mid to late May or early June. That way we would have both the main lake and bay in play, smallies everywhere .
Anyone?
id be really interested, but im a non-boater, and i am really unexpierenced bass fishing compared to most here, top that off, ive never fished for small mouths. so let me know!
I would be interested too and also I'm a non-boater. :'(
Why not, Id probaly be there anyway
I have never been to Erie, but have always heard that May is an awesome time to be fishing there for Smallies.
What stage are they there then ?
Pre-Spawn? Staging for the spawn ? On beds ?
What type of water temps then ?
Sadly, due to the economy right now, I would not be able to make this one. Wallet is infortunately running awfully light this year for me to be able to make a road-trip.
It would probably be at least a ten-hour pull minimum for me each way from Long Island dragging the Ranger, depending upon where you'd be going out of.
Hopefully, another year.
in may Id say pre spawn the water is probaly in the low 50's.
there puttin the feed bag on thats for sure.
Definately pre-spawn for the most part.
There will be some fish on beds in Erie Bay if it's late May. Bay fish will spawn May through June.
Main lake fish will be on beds in June, some clear into early July possibly.
Here's the nice thing. If lake conditions are too rough to get out, the bay is LOADED with both smallmouth and largemouth in the Spring. An example, I had my wife with me a few years back on a day in Mid May. She is pretty much a novice, was just along for the day to get out. I located a flat w/ adjacent drop that was stacked with fish, both LM and SM. We were throwing jerkbaits and in 4 hours we boated over 50 fish of both species, from one spot. It was crazy. She even boated a musky that went about 35 inches.
I had a little streak in the middle of the frenzy where I boated fish on 12 consecutive casts. She wanted my bait. I handed her my rod, I took hers with a different type and color of jerkbait on it. I continued to catch fish, it was all about the right cadence and action. Once I got her dialed in to that, she went on a tear.
If we get some interest, I'm sure we'd find room for the non boat owners. I can fish 3 out of my boat no problem.
I would love to fish Erie around that time, but it would add another non-boater to the list.
I can PM some of the West Virginia guys to generate some interest.
I'm interested, I'll bring my boat. ;D
im getting all excited now!
I am interested for sure if I am available on the date that is set. Should have any bugs worked out of the new (to me) boat by then.
pm sent to bassnleo
Quite a bit of interest.....
I'm planning on being on a vacation week the first week of May. Maybe we could pick a day late in the first week.
Ok, week day or weekend day? I know a weekend would be far easier for most, but less anglers out on a weekday.
Weekends that time of year get a little busy.
I'm all for anything so input please.
im game. where r we talking about launching from?! and whos got the boats?! because idk how far my beater stationwagons gunna make it. lol r we talking sandusky?
and i honestly think that the best game plans to just set a date. pick it and stick to it! otherwise itll become a lets please everyone match! wont work! (trust me if being in a greek chapter in college taught me anything its that)
let me know! ;D
First week of May would be out for me. I am going to be at Pickwick on the BR Roadtrip.
SimpleJoe and all the WV boys will be there as well.
Forgot all about the BR roadtrip and I just found that my club is holding an open T that weekend at Pymatuning.
No go the first weekend then.
I'll pick a couple more days and get 'em up soon.
standing by.........
i am on vacation from work the first week so i will be up there for sure...ill be staying at my camp about 10 minutes from lake wilhelm so ill probably fish wilhem and maybe pymatuming Saturday and Sunday then goto Erie Tuesday as long as the weather is decent so hit me up if youd like to meet up...there will probably be 2 other boats with me so there will probably be room for riders if needed
If the dates work for me, I'll run up. I have the BR trip, some soccer games, and some schedule tournaments to work around...
I'd also be interested and will have a boat as long as I get this engine rebuild and there are no complications Keep us posted on the dates
So when we doing this. I can't the first, second or third week in May. BR Roadtrip,Wounded Warriors Tournament down in DC and then a Club Tournament.
Leo,
Just saw this post. I'm in for any time after May 11th. I can fish one or two out of my boat. Sounds like fun.
Especially like to get speedbead & pitchinkid on board!
Dwight, if you're coming I'm sneakin into your boat, someone else can take mine, LOL.
I'm working on a date now. I will have my T schedule for that month very soon, will post some dates in the near future.
I'm leaning toward the end of the month at this point.
lemme know too!...ill be able to do it on a weekend
Im down. June would be awesome for me but whatever yall decide. I call Shotgun with dick
Just let me know so i can start apologizing to my wife now.
I'm already planning on going up to Erie on Monday and Tuesday, May 17 and 18. Went to Ashtabula last year on the 25th and 26th of May and absolutely slayed em!
Will see what dates you guys come up with and see what happens. I'd have one guy with me and could probably fit another no problem. Sounds like a good time.
So, are we talking a two day trip? or what? And again, Im gunna ask that whoever is the most expierenced angler on the trip sit me in their boat, im still REALLY green at bass fishing and Ive never fished from a boat, in deep water, or for smallies. So id love someone to teach me!
LEt me know! Still really excited! ;D
Where were you thinking of holding this event? The western end would obviously be better for those coming from Michigan, Indiana, etc. I'll be bringing my boat if the dates work out.

I'm betting that we would be meeting in Erie, Pa.
little_stephen, Start stocking up on tubes, craws and weights for the trip. Depending when we go, that's what I'll be throwing.
Yes, Erie PA-Presque Isle.
It appears that possibly the last weekend of May, specifically the 30th.
After finally getting my Tx schedules, that Sunday os about the only one I can do.
It will be busy, that's Memorial Day weekend.
So, Sunday May 30th, how's that date look for everyone?
I'm thinking it will be a little too crazy there on that weekend for me.
Leo... It would be great to meet you, after all the posts and PM's we've had. Your imformation that you have shared has helped me out big time. I have plans to meet my brother from Knoxville TN that week for our annual PIB outing. Hope we can meet and maybe fish together.

It will be busy, no doubt , but PIB has been that way for the past couple years just about every weekend.
Honestly, I've never seen so many trailers w/ out of state plates and PA plates alike, meaning the past couple years in the Spring.
Picking a date has been difficult with all the stuff that goes on in the Spring for me (and everyone else).
May 30th is about the best I can muster.
It's a big lake

I may have to reconsider 8-)
so. id love to go. but money got tight. and i dont know if i can do anything over a 1 day trip. if i have to pay for a room for the night im cooked.
That weekend works out great for me, I'm going to stay at my brothers camp. It's up at Pymatuning, I'll be an hour away.

I'm probably only going to come up for that Sunday, I'm only and hour away.
If May 30th is the day we end up doing, just come over for the day. Money should not be an issue, just whatever it will take you to get there that day.
Please keep us posted on this. I will be there! I just need to know the exact date & meeting time. I will be bringing my boat but, I am not sure who would be coming with me father or tourney partner. I may have room for one other on my rig!
Cabin Fever has got be bad! You can bet I'll be on PIB as soon as ice out happens. Good luck to all this season.

Me too! My club scheduled club Tx there for April 11th and with the amount of ice we have this year, that's gonna be a dicey weekend, ice may be gone, it may not be.
Leo I can work with that. Let's hope the lake is fishable because the bay will be pretty busy.
i cant do it that weekend. My wifes hometown has this huge Parade and she wants me there. It will be our little ones first Grafton Parade, so apparently its the most important thing on the Planet that i attend it.
Will be going to Erie on the weekend of June 20th. I think dick Speedbead, and Jimzee might be going as well.

Where will you guys be launching from?
Its totally up too dick. Erie is new to me. Id say Buffalo/Dunkirk will probably be were he wants to go.
I should say if he goes. I dont think nothing is set in stone yet. I just asked those guys if they wanted to go that weekend and everybody said they would if they had nothing planned. I mean if there wives had nothing planned for them.
I have it penciled in, I'm pretty sure its a go. Rod may want to go, if he does we may want to talk about dragging two boats. He may want to take his triton if you guys don't want to put the tracker on the big water.
Tracker aint skeered! LOL nah thats a good idea. Up to yall whatever yall wanna do.
Is this gathering gonna happen or what? A final date and meeting time would be nice to know in advance to make sure I don't have a tournament and can make it for sure!
i think a few of us are going on the 19 - 20 of June. I think some other guys are talking about going on Memorial day or sometime in May.
I'm in ..always up for hittin' Erie...out of Buffalo?
