How's everyone been doing out there? Horrible weather the past week and a half up here really windy and cold.
Anyone finding fish on the beds in Northern MI yet?
I found them on their beds yesterday... it was a great time but I am in Mid Michigan.. I fished in northern michigan on saturday and didnt see any bedding just yet..
I haven't seen any on beds yet, but i have seen some cruising the shallows Sunday in Oakland co..
Anyone have knowledge or experience on Burt Lake? I am heading there next weekend to fish Burt and the Pigeon River. Info on either would be great
Logger
In southwest michigan (Muskegon/WhiteLake) nothing on the beds yet, but the 'Trap bite is on fire. Smaller fish can be caught in the protected areas, but the bigger bites are still out in the grass.
Thanks Upnorth keep us posted.
Still getting down in the 30's at night up here and this wind has been ridiculous. Put it this way I am still scraping my windows on my car in the mornings. We could really use those 70+ degree days to get the bite going. Anyway, I was unable to get the boat in the water yesterday (the wife had the suv and I couldn't find anyone with a truck to go) so I put the waders on and hopped in the ausable for 3 hours. Caught a nice healthy 13"smallie which felt like a tank on my 9' ultralight I use for trout fishing plus he was in the current what blast that was. He hit a X-rap size 8 in the rainbow trout pattern. Lots of small trout on a panther martin but they were so small I couldn't stay hooked up. Still looking for Burt lake and Pigeon river info. Keep the reports coming guys ;D!
Hey misfit1III8 - great to see you on the board.
I'll be on the like today with my better half - I'll call you tonight.
See Ya

btw - Those are some unusual looking bass
Just got back - No mid-day bite -
I hope I can get on some decent fish soon . . . .
I'm tired of being
Will someone Please get this thing out of my boat ! ! !

I went on the Huron River today and got a number of bass and a carp. I managed to forget my camera. :'(
Fishing has was fantastic for me and my partner last week. caught quite a few bass ranging between 2-4 pounds. Big silver lake the bite was good on shakey heads on seawalls and docks... The fish were just starting to move in. Seen a monster on that lake I swear she will go 6+ pounds. Also seen a pair of bass spawning on Little Silver lake. Pontiac lake was ok if you could get out of the wind and into the canals, while Maceday proved to have the largest fish of the week... A 5 pounder off a jerkbait on a windblown seawall... I go to fletchers for a Pike tourney between 14th and 17th. I will be on the lookout up there.
Heading out to the lake in an hour - report to follow . . .

i was at metro beach last saturday and cought 11 nice 3+ LM 1 baby bass, and a one LM that was a whopping 8lbs, ya i'de say things are goin good 8-)
Burt lake has some great walleye fishing. I have never bass fished there so I can't help with that. For walleye I head to the north end of the lake and drift with 1/4-1/2oz jigs with a crawler or minnow on. Chart, white seem to be the most effective colors. I would love to try some of that new gulp alive up there in either the minnow or the leech.
Andrew I told you things would turn around at metro. Where you back in the canal/marsh or up front closer to the lake.
Way to go, wheres the pics.
i have some pics on my phone but npt all of my fish. i had to climb down a steep bank to get to the spot, needing a free hand or two, so it was hard to grabe the phone to take a pic, but ill try and get them to ya. And yes i was back in the canal that is my permanet spot now, im heading there tommorrow after school to catch some moe with my bro.
(NO HIJACKING INTENDED )

Got back after sunset from my first trip on a "new" Lake near home - It turned out to be quite an afternoon - bagged my Personal best SMB ! I was alone so I went with the "net" photo - At just over 21" she was a TOAD ! She recovered quickly from her photo op - and splashed my face for good measure as she swam off . . . . . .
Looks like it's gonna be a good Year !

dude... that is a REALLY nice fish... what else ya get????????
I took a 16" smb first from the same spot - 10 minutes later I was being towed around the lake by that U-boat of a bass. She put up a spirited fight but the 54 degree water temps were a factor. If she was a little warmer I bet I would have been treated to a series "air show"
A-Jay
nice.... Im headin out tomorrow.. I had planned on going saturday morning but the flu had other ideas... :'(
you really seem to be bangin those smallies up there in those parts.. come on down here for a LM and Pike fest!!
So I heard - Hope you beat'em up !
Guess you know where I'll be ?

I went yesterday and got permission to try fishing a local golf course pond. I wanted to try out my new set up. I have a bionic blade MH paired with a BPS extreme spinning reel and power pro line. I really like it, the only problem was that I didn't have my drag adjusted properly so when this monster LMB (I mean easily 4.5 ++lbs) I brought him close to shore and he had one last jump then came back down without my x rap in his mouth. I was sick, :'( it would have easily been my new PB but at least I know where to go to find him again. I also caught the 2 biggest bluegill of my life both on the same xrap. They were over 1 lb each. Heading to Burt Lake on thrusday... I can't wait.
Not much of a report but I fished from the DNR boat ramp at Brandywine on Saturday and came up with 2 little guys. One about 10 and the other a 12. Both were in the same spot, closer in that normal and on the right side looking out.
hey guys ya my buddy back home in northern mid michigan has been slaying the largemouth and smallmouth. he caught a 6lber on a white buzzbait two days ago along with a number of 2lbers. also on shallow cranks he has been doing really well. just reeling the baits through the shallow wood cover in coves. also the smallmouth he has been catching one was 19" probably 3.5-4lbs prespawn fish. the rest of the smallies were about 2lbs. he was catching them in a river about 45minutes from my hometown. those were caught on a white spinnerbait and a manns baby 1minus. throwing it right uup against the bank for fish that are moving up. cant tell you what river because its a gem that no one knows that there are giant smallies in there. we have caught numerous 4-5lbers and i caught a 6lber out of there. just small creek that we wade. but ya hope you guys are catching some. oh and he saw a few fish on beds.
Heading out in Otsego County this afternoon.
Hoping for the "Sun Shine Bite "

Really nice day on the water but turned out to be pretty slow - had 1 decent LMB come unbuttoned at the boat
Looking to get out again today - taking my wife today - she's been very good luck so far this season . . . . . .

I live in berrien county, and i have been slaying them on huskey jerks and rattletraps. A majority have been small, and the beds i can find are usually vacant. The last two times i went out, i caught 12 bass each time, within 2 1/2 hours. No size to any of them.
Caught my first skunk of the season. I went to Burt Lake Thursday for the first time ever. What a huge body of water. I ran all over that lake checking the spots from my maps and following the advice of other local anglers. Gin clear water, no vegetation anywhere, no stumps, no cattails the only "structure" I could find was a rocky flat and that didn't produce anything. Fished the Pigeon River friday morning and my luck continued as 4 of us got in the river at the same spot 2 went down stream my buddy and I fished up stream. We had no hits in 3 1/2 hours. The guys who went downstream limited out in 45 minutes. Had a great time anyway, I'll be out tonight back home I home.
Tough day fishin on Friday.. Pressure was droppin and it wasn't good. I only brought in one fish where I have previously brought in some nice Pike and strangley enough I only brought in one LM there. As i left though I was paddling through the swamp where the river breaks up into several channels and I heard a few splashes. So I through on a white buzzbait and brought in a Pike on the first cast. on the 3rd or fourth cast I watched another Pike go after it from about 15-20 ft away. I watched the wave of the water get closer an closer to the bait which was very cool. I caight a few nice LM on the front lake but that wasn't quite as exciting as the Pike experience.

Cool - I'm looking forward to getting out there with ya - soon.
I did the Monday afternoon to sunset bite. Managed some decent LMB and SMB. It's always interesting when you get both from the same spots - you never know what it's gonna be- 4' *** and 1/0 gamakatsu's on very light line was the ticket - the water is so clear - it's the only way to go - I just became a pumpkinseed fan - again
Looks like today and tomorrow are gonna be cool - 45-ish what's up with that - water temps are still in the mid to high 50's - it a slow warmer this spring - -Out again today - - -
A-Jay
Fished the Mio pond Monday evening. Water temps still at 56* no fish shallow yet. Caught 1 pike and 1 sm both in 10" of water. Ran into a guy I know on the lake and his fish were caught in 10" on the drop off as well.
Did anyone go out today and brave this nasty cold/windy slop ?
I did not. I 'm waiting for the end of the week and hoping for something a little bit more seasonal.
A-Jay
This global warming is putting a damper on my good time.
yeah this global warming stuff is really getting outta control.. Im scared for my child!!!!!..
i seem to have lost my pants again... anyone seen them?
misfit1III8
Maybe if you had one of these - you wouldn't keep losing your pants ?
Buckle-up tough-guy . . . .
A-Jay
I went out today and nothing was happening. Hit Brandywine for about 3hrs 1 short fish. Pretty much no matter where I went I was finding fish suspended in 4ft on the graph but they all seemed really small. I was finding clouds of fry. Nothing on beds. I'll be out somewhere else tomorrow.
On the lake today - Cold wind - water temps dropped to 51 - but - and this is the good part - it was a SMB slam fest - Rapala sub-walk was the bait of the day - first time I've fished this bait - it's a keeper-- targeted flats on the north end - boat docks and beds - fish were surprisingly aggressive for such a chilly day - man that was a very good time - hoping for more tomorrow -
A-Jay
nice a-jay...
Im headin out tomorrow..some of us have to work and can't go fishin everyday..
misfit1III8 - I hear ya - you know I did my time working for the man.
So now it's fish, fish, fish, and then go fishing again. . . .
Good Luck today - Throw the sub-walk
A-Jay
i know dude.... im just jealous and bustin on ya bit...
Did the sunset cruise tonight - the smallies were ready willing and I was able to get a few of them to the boat and in the net.
Water temps at 55. Sub-walk is making me a believer.

where do you guys usually fish at metro i've been working the boat docks and a little bit of the marsh towards the boat launch with no luck.
Heading out for my first "night operations" of the year - conditions are looking favorable -
Oh Boy . . . .
A-Jay
what will be fishin for mr. A-jay????
If you guys don't mind the walk, when you go to Metro Beach, go out to the mouth of the Black Creek and fish off the point. I've caught alot of smallies off that point. Walleyes too.
Falcon
Quotewhat will be fishin for mr. A-jay????
Funny you should ask - I'm hoping to stir up a few more SMB right before dark. Then after twilight, My "plan" is to connect with Ol' Marble eyes - I picked up a new cooler today at Jay's and would like to fill it up - I mean break it in - with in legal limits of course. . . . . .
I'll be sleeping in but will post a report right before I head out again tomorrow afternoon to hook it up again . . . . .
A-Jay
Last night didn't pan out as I had hoped - so I got right back in the saddle today with a SMB FEST ! A change in scenery made a major difference. I has one of those days that makes Winter in northern Michigan Almost with it . . . .

I did pretty well last night.. I took two rods, one for bluegill and the other for bass. i managed to bring in a few nice LMB which was 17" and a fatty and another at 16" and a fatty. The bluegills were hitting well but im not thinking they were bedding up yet. Water temps were 70 degrees and the actiaon slowed tremendously after the sun went down and the surface temps dropped to 68..

I was looking for some Hawg gills myself - I think your right - it won't be long though -
A-Jay
Its going to be a warm one this week.. FINALLY.. lets see how the action picks up!!!
I FINALLY have water temps that are reaching the 60's - it's been a slow warm-up for sure - - but the SMB seem to like it . . . . .
A-Jay
fished sat. only ended up with 4 keepers between the two of us in the boat, fishing was slow, with a little over 3 lbs. both of my keepers coming on a white and gold half ounce spinner bait alot of small fish coming on cranks and t rigged brush hog not the greatest fishing but should pick up here in a week or so....
Newburg Lake's starting to heat up. Anyone in wayne county care to meet up drop me a PM.

Got out today for the mid-day bite - The frog was see'in some action -
A-Jay
nice dude.. what kinda frog?
Quotenice dude.. what kinda frog?
Check your e-mail . . .
I been throwing the Deps Frog (see Link) it's by far the BEST frog bait I've ever seen - - It has a great action that is very different than everything else out there !!! It's a little high $$$$ for a stupid little hunk of plastic but it's a really sweet bait - I was throwing it in both vegatation and open water and bass were hammering it - I think the pike might like it too which might not be too good . . . . . . .

Heading out again today - got out yesterday - wind and rain - pretty crappy day as far as the weather goes - but the fish were in a chewing mood and my better half and I put a hurting on them ! ! ! Including her personal best LMB . . . . .
Headed out again this morning - looks like it might not be as windy but the same raw rainy deal as yesterday - ah - summer in Northern Michigan - it's so lovely and 43 degrees . . .nice . . . . .. . . . . .
A-Jay
Just got back. Lack of rain didn't help the fishing. The bite was totally shut off from yesterday. Managed a handful of dinks and a nice pike. Tomorrow is another day. Retirement is pretty good.
A-Jay
anyone in the sterling heights area been going out lately? i've been swamped for the past 2 weeks and haven't gone once yet.....i'm having withdrawls!!!
SouthWest Michigan (Muskegon/WhiteLake) has been pretty steady. Water was in the low 70's, but now in the upper 60's. The Alewifes are in and on the flats, so the fluke/spinnerbait/crankbait/topwater bite is on, especially in the evenings. The smallmouth bite has been about dead for me, all green fish.
I have been trying the deep bite, but its very slow with just a few small fish. If the water ever gets into the upper 70's, that should pick up.
I appreciate the reports. Good luck!!
Had an easy personal best on last night... I think im going to go back to my dark corner and continue to cry now.... I did however mange to land a few nice pike which are now nicely deboned and ready to be served up tonight..

Dissappointing . . . . . This weekend was a total Blow-Out ! The wind was Crank'in all day and night - which is a bummer - sometimes I'll get out if it lays out at night - but it seems that it's been windy quite a bit this month - at least on the days I plan to get out - - - -
I really hope it lays down at least a little - I REALLY NEED A FIX -
And what makes it worse is that on Friday (my last day on the water ) I think I came across a little something that produced some surprise fish - And I haven't been able to get back to it since ! ! !
It's killing me - - - - - Help . . . . . me . . . . . I'm . . . . getting . . . .weaker . . . .need . . . . to . . . . go . . . .fishing . . . . .
sorry - I'm a little better now - looks like I'll be able to get out later this afternoon ~ I'm sure I'll be casting into Coffee colored water at best - but sometimes - that's not a bad thing . .
Rant over.

Heading out for some Night Operations - calm clear night - Big MOON !
Looks Very Promising -
A-Jay
well.... how was it out there??????
Quotewell.... how was it out there??????
It was a truely gorgeous warm, flat calm, moon light night and the bugs must have been snoozing- which was nice . . . . . . .
Around 3-ish an extremely dense fog rolled in. The moon went bye-bye and so did ALL visibility - I thought it was very cool but my fishing partner called it "Very Spooky"
The talley for the night was not quite what we had hoped for but not a wash out either. Before day break we had netted 3 fish with one in the 4 lb. class - all on a black spinnerbait - after daybreak and with sunrise the fog burned off we had a slow steady pick of 1-2 pounders until we split @ 1000. This outing will be repeated again soon after a brief recovery period
