QuoteWelcome man. I'm not from Michigan either but I spend alot of time fishing the lakes in the SW.
What lakes do you fish in the SW?
QuoteHey... I'm from the Grand Rapids area. Welcome aboard!
If there is some lakes or places to put in on the Grand near G/R that your willing to tell me about I'd like to hear it. I have an oppurtunity to fish that area more since I could just stay with my Wife's Parents who live in Comstock Park.
What's up bass buddies Grand Rapids in the house. I can;t wait any longer but must hold out. welcome dude
Hey I hit alot of the lakes in Allegan and Van Buren counties.
Welcome Shawn. Do you fish the Flint River much? My buddy has a place in the Birch Run area, and we fish the river occasionally. There's another river in the same area, but I don't know the name.

Marshall / Battle Creek Michigan here.
I fish St. Clair and Erie alot though.
Coldwater has 2 nice chains of lakes worth fishing. I'm about 25 minutes from them.
If you are coming to SW Michigan to fish you should definately check out Paw Paw lake. Some real hawgs caught every tournament out of there.

I'm in SE. Belleville lake and Ford lake are my home lakes.
QuoteColdwater has 2 nice chains of lakes worth fishing. I'm about 25 minutes from them.
Banor, ever fish Silver Lake, Lake George, Lake Lavine? theyre close to Coldwater, never fished Coldwater but we play to try it out this year..

Hi,
I am stuck here in Belize and darn is it warm...been in the mid 80s all week.
But got really really cold last night down to 65°F Brrrr
Looking forward to hitting the lakes in Michgan later this summer when we head north again.
Cheers from the jungles of Belize
QuoteI'm in SE. Belleville lake and Ford lake are my home lakes.
Me and you both.
I'm a big fan of what Belleville has to offer, but the boat pressure gets too high at times.
I'm also a big fan of Ford lake. I normally fish for largemouths, but i've had some success with Smallies there.
I'm interested in giving the Detroit River a shot this year. I've always shyed away from it in the past, but i'm really wanting to go after the Smallies it has to offer this season. I'm also looking forward to seeing how Iaconelli did on it - City Limits Fishing has their Detroit episode airing March 20th.

No, never fished them. I try to travel away from this area to fish! Most of my time is on the Great Lakes (Detroit Area). I just cant get enough of those smallies.
B
I've run out of reels to spool and boxes to organize. I don't think I can wait until the opener. I guess I could go out and buy some more stuff.
im from new boston. i do pretty good in belleville and erie
Shawn:
Welcome aboard! I'm a newbie myself. You're going to
love it here!
Mark
Hey gang- let everyone know when you go out and how you did. I'm probabally 2-3 wks. out.
Fished the mouth of my canal; Anchor Bay, Lake St. Clair. Black and blue tube jig and rapala jerkbait. No fish or strikes. Went to Bald Mountain today in Oakland county, same lures, still no fish.
I'm from the Torch Lake area...CABIN FEVER !!! Jus' got 6" of the white stuff UUUggghhhhhh...
Thats no good about the snow! Not too long and you will be catching giant smallies one after another!!! On the Paw Paw Lake issue guys who have fished it they are trying to pass a weed treatment and dredging of the lake to stop the weeds from growing if you are concerned contact Coloma and Watervliet Townships to voice your opinion, Google them to find number. Paw Paw is one of my favorite lakes and it is a great lake and does give up some big fish but not EVERY tournament lol I have fished some tournaments out there that have been tough, real tough. However, when it is on it can be fun to fish, caught a 20 pound bag there last year and a smallie over 5 before. Biggest bass I saw in a tournament around here came out of there, a 6 pound largie. On the other side last year a 20 boat tournament took only 5 pounds to win so I would not drive a long way if you can get out on Kent, White, Muskegon, St. Clair, Saginaw Bay

Welcome aboard from way up here in da U.P.
AAAARRRRRR! ! ! ! ! ! !
If it doesn't stop SNOWING soon - - -
I'm going to SNAP ! ! ! ! ! !
It IS APRIL, Right ? >
What the heck !
A-Jay
all the snow is gone and the ice is off the water by me, but we did get some peculiar weather, a week of high 40s then wham bam boom, snow, now we are in the 50s. i hate Michigan.
Going out today for the first trip of the year. This time of the season i usually wait until the afternoon to go out (let the water warm a little), but i can't wait that long. I am so geeked i got up at 5am and couldn't go back to sleep. So, it's BR until i kill a little time. Got the boat ready yesterday, will probabally leave around 9am this morning. DINKS better watchout!!! mark
Would anyone be interesting if i start a BBQ picnic up? Thought about doing this for awhile now. Might try to start it up next year or later this summer if I'm still up here.Somewhere halfway from everybody.
Have it at a lake, everybody invited and try to bring little things.I'll bring the hamburgers and hotdogs.Hopefully already have grills where we might meet up.
Kids,family,everybody invited.
How's that sound?
It sucks we're not permited to target Bass until april 25th.... Might have to go pike fishing with bass gear....

Ya, i didn't find that out till 2 days ago, i got busted by DNR, at least he wasn't a ***** about, he just told me that i couldn't fish for bass and that bass season starts the 3rd week in April. he was pretty cool about it.

so he gave you no ticket then? thats cool...
WELCOME! I'm from Macomb! hope to see ya on ther water too!
The largemouth FINALLY moved into my canal. Now I can fish for them until I get the boat in the water, and start to chase those smallies.

im confused about all of this stuff. I cant go fishing for bass even if im catching and releasing till april 25? Or can i just be fishing for "pike" and if a bass happens to eat my bait i just release it? Im just alittle confused b/c the dnr handbook is alittle confusing. i want to go fishing for bass this weekend but i dont know if i can.
Well that's what the dnr guy said, even catch and release is bad. but if you wanna fish for "pike" and "accidentally" catch a few bass.....
Unfortunately - bass, pike, and walleye all fall into that "last sat. in april" routine. You can't say you were fishing for any of them before the 25th. You were just testing your new lure/reel/rod/practicing casting/whatever..... or you're trying to catch a new state record panfish on that dd22!
4 Days and Counting . . . . .
Oh Boy ~ I can hardly contain myself . . . . .

Anyone have any plans for the opener this saturday? Suppose to be a really nice day. Me and my brother will probably head over to Kent Lake. Any other suggestions for this early in the season?
Oh Man I can't wait!!!! Saturday I will be on Cass or Pontiac and fish until about 2pm. Then go home watch and see who the Lion's draft and then I'm off to maybe Orchard Lake til dark..... 8-)
I haven't decided just where I'll start out on Saturday.
Of course The SNOW we got yesterday and The Snow we are getting Right Now probably isn't helping anything at all . . . . . :

its "supposed" to be 80 out so we will see
ya hopefully the weatherman holds up his end of the bargain, but in Michigan, you never now. i got a lacrosse game Saturday so ima have to go on Sunday.
Hi Shawn. I'm also new to the site and am in your area. kearsley area. There is definately some good info on this site. Good luck this year
Hey guys where are all the opening day reports. I went went out in my float tube, got caught in the worst part of the storm. But we dried out and went back to it. I ended up with 8 good bass in just a couple of hours. Cant wait to get back out. How did everyone else do?
paragon
I decided to forego the Opener and went for walleyes on the Saginaw river Sunday. Limited out in the rain AND I did catch a dink Smallmouth. Going out in ten minutes to Holloway. A cold day fishing is STILL better than working.....

Even though it was Killing me, I waited the whole weekend until the darn thunderstorms blew threw before I headed out. Finally wet a line yesterday ~ to my delight ~ the jig bite was hot. No mutants but not bad considering there is still some snow on the ground

Now thats what im talking about pics and everything. So only 2 of us went bass fishing. strange huh :-?

Guess so - that's OK with me
I went out again today - in the rain - and the jig did a little damage

a-jay those are some great fish. I hope to get out this weekend, after I get my WAY overdue break job done. I am a carpenter, that means I hate working on cars. >

Paragon, my opener lasted about 3 hours and consisted of rain, 49 degree weather, bad winds, and 3 hammer handle pike. So not the opener I had waited all winter for, but at least I got out and the boat ran fine. I boated my first 2 largemouth Wednesday night, nothing huge. Both hit a tube and were already in 2 feet of water. I was shocked that the water temp was already up to 55 here in Mio.
logger I'm going to try again this year to make it up to Wakley. Do you remember when that lake opens for fishing?
Of course my break job turned in to a whole rear end thing, but went real smooth. Thank god for neighbors with all the right tools and Fridays off.
paragon
I managed to catch 4 LM and 4 pike all on my special 3/8oz spinner bait. I had 12 bites in the 3.5 hours I was out. All bites were in 2ft or less with temp ranging from 58.7- 60.8
I thought I had an ok day for the opener... That was until the freaking hurricane hit.
But what sucked was after I re-tied my spinnerbait after every snag and pike. The storm came through while I was in a a small pocket that had a metal wall on one side. While hurrying to start up and head back to the ramp, the motor stalled and the wind blew my boat into the wall with my lure hanging off the side.... I didn't notice until my boat was on the trailer that my favorite spinner was gone.. :'(
I post up a few pics in a bit...

June 15th Wakley opens Let me know when you plan to go
caught my first smallie of the year decent sized guy i'm guessing maybe 2 1/2 pounds?
and i upgraded my rod, but i don't have enough for a new reel haha i'm slowly getting there. ;D and yes thats a hello kitty toy hanging from my tow hook. I'm so JDM ;D
Hey guys (& gals), I live in a small town southwest of Kalamazoo. I have 36 lakes within 6 miles of my house and several miles of river. I own a tunnel hull with a jet and fish the rivers 99% of the time.
I did a little pearch fishing on St. Claire a couple weeks ago, but only managed to catch a couple hundred smallmouths. Must have been using the wrong color???? ;D
Launched my jet for the first time the other night. The rivers around here are still very high and smoking fast. I didn't fish much, but I caught 5 largemouths on a buzzbait. Couldn't get a strike on anything else.
