OK guys, what happened to all the rah, rah, sis, boom, bah about a bunch of us getting together? Two showed up for the first roundup in April. Is that the end of it?
Sorry dude. It has been SOOOOOO busy for me. Seriously. Graduations, weddings, all that summer b/s.
I am ready to start hittin the water. Set the date and local and i will be there.
Depending on the date, I would like to join you guys. I do have a crazy summer schedule though.
I can make it pretty much anytime. The only exceptions are the weekend around June 18th, and the week following the Fourth of July. Grampa and I talked about it when we fished together last week. We wondered if everyone else lost interest or what.
As far as the time, that is up to you working stiffs. The place can be determined by consensus.
Let's hear from all who are interested, and we'll go from there.

Hey Rhino glad you brought this up ..... count me in ...... should be able to work with whatever date/time the group decides on.... no weekend work on the schedule so just have to worry about an emergency which is rare (knocking on wood).

hey guys, brand new to the forum here. got back into fishing and im loving it. im having some trouble finding some good spots tho. i never really had any real instruction on fishing so meeting up with some experienced/knowledgeable anglers sounds like a good time to me. im up for a MA meetup! lets keep this thread moving.
Where...When...Who's fishin' with me?
Let's hear some suggestions for dates and places. I'm flexible as to where and when. Since it will likely be a weekend to accomodate those not yet retired, I'd suggest avoiding anything near Cape Cod. Weekend traffic from July 4 through Labor Day is usually horrendous, and the ponds are clogged with tubers, jet skis, water skiers, joy riders and fishermen.
Let's hear some suggestions.
Maybe grille some burgers and dogs at noon (or at the end of the outing) and compare notes on the morning's fishing. Anyone with a tailgating grille?
I've got room for a non-boater.
One vote for Whitehall Res. in Hopkinton....next weekend after the fourth....
Whitehall is fine by me, but not the weekend after the Fourth. Wife and I will be away. Any weekend after that should be workable.

Whitehall sounds good to me as well. I think I'm still good for most weekends.
After seeing Grampa1114 work those Sluggo's this weekend at Quinsig I think the rules committee should consider banning them for the day. lol

Ok the old guys want to play...we've got room for non-boaters.... Grundle.... Ukbumpkin.... Songa....Jigfish'n.....anyone.....anyone

Didn't he share them with you? I've got one spinning rod set up with four pound test. Six pound is ok, but the four is much better.
I maybe be coming with a friend of mine if we can get his boat back in the water anytime soon, mechanical issues. If not I may take one of you up on the boat openings.
As far as the weekend mentioned I am open and I've never fished Whitehall, but I'm certainly up for the challenge.
Until then practice makes perfect and I just bought a new rod to practice with
The date is still up in the air and open for discussion....now is the time to make a bid for the perfect day for you....anyone...anyone...
Rhino .... Just like the not so famous Monkee's song "I'm A Believer" ..... I am now all set with a light 6' finesse rod...lol
Ok I'll propose a date .....so the weekend after the July 4th week/weekend is July 16/17 .... how does one of those days work? .... either one would be fine with me.

I just found out that this weekend I will be down the Cape... I can do any weekend after that.
See...discussion is good...23-24 July.......25-26 June.....anything fit yet?
You two slay me...you both caught as many fish as I did.

Would love to, but my wife works every Sunday and I work every other Saturday. Thanks anyway grandpa1114. If a date gets set in stone on a Saturday I don't have to work, I would love to tag along with someone.
I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm up for getting together. Problem is, my daughter has softball tournaments (all local) the three weekends after the 4th. BUT that does not rule out me getting out real early and being off the water to get to wherever her games start.
I went to Whitehall last weekend and got a few, but not much size. There are a ton of 12-14" bass in there, a lot of huge pickerel, and there have to be some monster bass in there but I have never found them.
I'm hoping to get out late this Sat afternoon and then again early Sun (Father's Day) to one of my local hotspots. I've always got room in the front of my canoe, so let me know if anyone wants to get out this weekend.

23-24 July I can do either, June I couldn't do.
If we are still aiming for July 23-24 I would like to take one of you gentleman up on your back of the boat offers.
Barring unforseen circumstances, I should be able to make 23 or 24 July work. How many are interested?
Rhino, I'll make the 23rd work, heck or high water. I need some wiggle room tho, at least a week prior notice so I can get someone to take my shift. BTW guys, I'm a non-boater.
I am doubtful. Won't know until a few days before that weekend.
The 23rd or 24th works for me.
Sign me up.
I messed up my engine last time I went out and snapped my Abu Garcia Veritas in half 3 days ago. How did I do that you might say? I t was sticking out of the back window and i rolled up the window. Thus. breaking it and me going ballistic at my stupidity.
As for my engine, its so so. I snapped the rod that holds the shaft to the transom, only thing i need is a carriage bolt so no big deal. BUT
if i could grab a boat spot with someone else, that would be great, if not, no problem. PM me if you want my awesomeness presence to grace your boat, right Rhino? Rofl, i'll bring my own Senkos this time
edit: will 100% contribute to gas for boat as well obviously.
Ok folks ..... 7/23 is less than 2 weeks away.... I think it is time to get a count on who would be able to make it and decide if there is enough interest to make it worth trying to coordinate a get together.
I can make it on the 23rd at Whitehall in Hopkinton Ma.
- brian
I can make 7/23, but as mentioned would becoming as a non-boater.
OMG are we finally settling on a date....Who's coming...Boater...Non boater...can we get a show of hands please...
Boater. 7/23 Whitehall, Hopkinton.
I'm new to the forum still, but I'd love to get in on this. Unfortunately I am a non boater, but of course can provide gas, food, or other goodies to pass the time. No hard feelings if I cant get a seat but I've never fished there and it would be a great time to learn something new
Jonesie I have a hunch that if you show up on time that you won't get left on the beach. Hey guys who's coming and what time is "on time"? I'm thinking 6:30-7:00.
I can tag along with a boater if someone wants to put up with my nonsense...23rd works for me!
Of course I will help out in the monetary dept.
I'll have a seat open on my boat.....6:30-7:00 would be my preference but I am not driving far so lets hear from some of the folks with a bit of drive.
- brian
6:30-7 on the 23rd sounds good to me. I'll be coming from Newton so not to far for me to go.
Aaron
OK. I can be there. Room for two, provided all are careful and pay attention. Two of us on the bow, one on the stern.
At Kentucky Lake we fished three from my boat with one in the cockpit. A cast by one of the guys, snagged the line of the fellow at the rear who had just finished retying a bait. Ended up with a hook buried in his thumb when his line was snagged by the bait being cast. Took a trip to a clinic, where they sent us to the ER at a local hospital. They removed the hook.
I don't want a repeat, so a note to all, before casting, make sure no one is in the line of fire.
As for the time, I'm coming from Westport, but can be there at the crack of dawn, or anytime thereafter.

Hey Jones, where in southeastern MASS? I'll be heading up Rte 24 from Westport, getting onto 495 to Hopkinton. You're welcome to ride with me if we work out the details.
oh oh .... just checked the DCR web site for the tournament schedule and there are tournaments on both days. Not sure if Whitehall is still decent to fish when there is a tourney there buts perhaps one of the more experienced guys may know. DCR list 30 parking spaces.

Thats sounds great, it's a long ride alone!
I'm in West Bridgewater. on rt24 its 2 exits past 24/495. I'm sure I could find a place to leave my car somewhere close to the 24/495 interchange. Can't wait for this. I'll PM you my #
Eight days, and counting. Anyone got a portable, tailgating type grille? I'll bring the hot dogs, rolls, mustard and relish. If we do it, I'll also bring a cooler with cans of Coke, and Sprite, as well as bottled water. BYOB if that's your beverage of choice.

I've got a portable I will bring, not as big as one of those Coleman On The Road grills but it works fine. I'll bring some burgers, buns, catsoup and beverages.
OK guys, we're five days out. It would be nice to get a final count of who's coming.
Hot dogs and hamburgers after the fishing, so we need to know how many to bring. Hope everyone interested makes it. Should be a lot of fun.
I will be making it and let me know if anyone has a food and/or beverage request I can bring along?
I'm all set ..... looking forward to it. See you guys at the ramp around 6:30 - 7:00.

I probably wont be able to make it unfortunately. My boat's got issues and I cant find the time to take a look at it this week as well as I'm sure any non boater spots have been fulfilled I cant imagine there would be room. No big deal I guess I missed the boat on this one ( no pun intended). If i'm wrong shoot me a PM, but I dont have high hopes.
I know Jones will be there. UKBumpkin is in. The three boaters will be there. So, if Grundle and Jigs (let us know for sure) go, we'll have enough room for all to fish. I can take two with me. Grampa can take one, and Tate at least one, so that accomodates the four non-boaters.
All this is barring unforseen circumstances.
Hopefully, this works out well so we can do another "mini" road trip for the guys/gals in eastern MA. Out of staters are also welcome, but you'll need a MA license.
I'd like to see this develop into a regular thing, with a "special" weekend outing to a place like Lake Champlain, once a year.
I'm there!
Grundle, I sent you a pm. But I'll also post it here. There is room. No excuses.
I'd like to join you guys on Sat, I have a crawdad that I can bring, but if there is room on a big boat I'd like take a spot.

Bring your rig, Jug and we'll see how it goes. We'll be glad to have you.
Gonna be a hot one fellas. Forecast for over 90. Drink lots of water!

I'm bringing a cooler with Poland Springs water, Coke, and Sprite, packed full of ice. I'll have way more than I need, just in case.
Oh yeah, I picked up the hot dogs today. They're in the fridge. Will get the rolls on Friday, plus the mustard and relish. If I remember, I'll bring a roll of paper towels. Real fishermen don't use napkins.
If we get more non-boaters, I can throw my 16 foot, square stern canoe on the roof of my truck. Trolling motor, batteries, and fish finder. It can easily handle two plus gear, plus a large cooler.
new to the forums here. Wont be able to make it to this one but would love to go to the next. good luck guys

I am looking foreward to meeting you and all the other members and hope this is just the start of us fishing together as a group,on some regular basis.
Wow, it's finally coming together...and I can't make it. Maybe next time.
Make sure there are some cameras so you guys can post pics. I'm guessing the fish will be deep, in the south end of the lake. Good luck.
Tomorrow's the big day and it looks like everyone is coming...After lunch, swapping might work if it isn't too hot...keep in mind when you get there that the folks in the tournament have a permit so please stay out of their way (It could be you some day). I am sure that no one needs to be reminded that food costs money. See you in the morning.
I'm hooked up, and ready to go. Only thing left to do is get ice for the coolers. Will do that last thing. They are in the house where the temp is 70ish. Will put them in the boat when I leave.
Get a good night's rest. Jones and Grundle, 5:45 Wally World parking lot.
I will see you guys in the am!
Good fishing to all of you tomorrow!
Can't make it tomorrow, sorry for the last minute back out.
Had a good time today gentlemen, even though I only boated one bass it was a nice relaxing day on the water. Thanks again to the Rhino for letting me tag along. Great to meet you guys and hope this was the first of many.
I would like to second that, I had a great day also gentlemen and learned a lot from the pleasure of riding with Grampa.
Well met gentlemen...all we lacked was a photographer...maybe next time...good job bumpkin, those were nice fish.
A special thanks to "tate" and "Fishing Rhino" for a great lunch. You guys are awesome.
Looks like the next will be at Mashpee/Wakeby on Cape Cod. No time set, or even talked about. August or after Labor Day? We'd like to hear from others who may be interested, and would also like to find another boater or two to join us. Will start a new thread in the next day or two.
Great day today men! My pleasure meeting you all and fishing with you. Looking forward to the next get together at Mashpee/Wakeby! A good fun day!

That's the plan. We'd like to find other boaters who are interested in a strictly fun outing. Nothing at stake, not even bragging rights. Catch none, or catch a ton, it's all about an informal social get together with other forum members.
Had a good time except for the fact that I got skunked. Well, I got outfished by a Herring, literally.
Thanks again tate for the ride along, learned lots.
Dont know if I will be attending the next one, someone who can actually catch fish can take my spot.
and yes I am still bitter.
Grundle you did fine .... you did all the right things ..... We all have days like that so no worry. It was fun fishing with you .... I do hope you try to make the next get together.
Now about that Herring ..... he did a heck of a job! Amazing large trout. With water temps at 81 you would think the trout would be deep but that one WAS in less than a foot of water before he was lunch.
- Tate
I was thinking about that trout earlier today....that literally made 0 sense. I mean think about it: 81 degree temp, VERY shallow water, heading straight for the herring...it was like it actually wanted to die. i am still baffled. i bet that herring was JACKED up on his huge lunch he had.
Don't let the suicidal trout bring you down! Seriously though it could have been me instead getting shut out. I just happened to run into one little guy, and maybe 10 minutes before we were finished at that. A wise man once told me it's not always about the fishing...
Haha Grundle, the big difference between you and the herring (other than the wings and what not) is that you're fishing for the fun of it and the herring is doing it to survive. Sure the herring got lucky and landed meal of the season, but I think it is fair to say that predatory instincts of survival will more often than not out perform a guy in a boat looking for some fun.
I hope you can make the next outing and I will be there for sure.
I have been following this thread, out of jealousy for the most part, and when you guys started mentioning the herring I was confused. Then I saw the last post and put it together, your referring to a Heron,a large usually grey bird, eats fish, hangs around a lake, not a herring, a saltwater schooling fish good for eating. Am I correct?
hahah .... yep .... Heron as in Great Blue ..... I'm always told that I am terrible with names and I guess this fits in that category. lol
Grundle if you want another crack at Whitehall...let me know...I've been skunked there before myself...and you better show up at the next one...it's not official without you.
Wish I had checked this website earlier in the summer I would have joined yall! Next time you're all planning on going let me know!! I you run into parking issues I can solve them no problem.

I've seen it and probably won't be able to make anything prior to laborday , and I don't know that pond either (not that I'm ever opposed to trying something new, especially something on the cape!). Next time yall wanna have a get together at the previous location, let me know, I can be of assistance in gaining access to private land abutting the lake for additional trailer parking/whatever.
