Any one finding any bass that are starting the fall feeding pattern? Southern Maine and Southern NH just not happening for me.
Is Maine in New England ?
Last weekend the fall bite was on. I will be back in Maine on vacation from Sept 26th - Oct 6th so I should have some good info soon.
Last weekend it sure did feel like fall. Water temperatures were 62-64 degrees.
Water has been 62-65 mousam and little Ossipee. I have a mini vacation coming the first week of Oct I'm escaping turning 50 lol I'm thinking of doing China or Cobessee I have personally seen a 10 pound fish at Cobessee many years ago when I did BASS tournament for the state.
There are giant sea beasts in China
Haha I don;t know about that but I have not fished that lake yet it is on my to do list along with Champlain and the Connecticut River in Conn again I did that in 91 for the Maine state team for the regionals there was something about it I liked very much but the tides wasnt one of them.

Ha Ha. Funny stuff.
China Lake in Maine has a lot of 5-7 lbers.
China the country idk.... Japan though has huge bass.
Going out today, Most likely fishing Swains going to bang the stumps there. Going to bring my fishing partner Cosmo.
I will be on Mendums around 1. Not many days left before they drawdown so I have to get out as much as I can.
What a tough day only one fish and that was with a chatterbait. they have already drawn down Swains almost a foot. I can see the fish on the finder but they are suspended and just not biting the lake was stained not the usual clear water. I think I need to head up north again.
Champlain is in the low to mid 60's and turning over. Been super windy for the last 4 days (72 hours of 18+mph winds with gusts to 40). Smallies are getting a bit shallower, but we're still getting them over 30 feet down.
Water is low too, under 95'. This makes getting into the Lamoille and Missisquoi rivers impossible. Smallies are running up those rivers in big numbers.
The deepest I have hit fish this year has been about 20 ft cant imagine the over 30 ft
Cold water guys are trolling for Salmon in 70' & cracking 5lb smallies with their spoons. A guy won a pretty big tournament up here in July with smallies in 36-50'.
I need to make a trip with my boat up Champlain some day it's been on my bucket list.
Champlain has some amazing bass fishing.
went and threw my jitterbug for about 15 minutes tonight

Sweet fish Nev. You got a weight or length on her ?
The good ole jitterbug produces well for ya
I havent night fished in years.
it was dark and the pic did not come out too well. it was either 20 1/2 or 21 1/2 Like most i did not take the time to weigh. If she felt like a 6+ i would have weighed her. she was not that fat but did fight well. I really like the night fishing like this. zero noise, except for the blub blub blub of the jitterbug, and the hit. almost no visibility so you have to know where you are fishing. i try not to use a light except for taking the fish off the hook. black noisy double colorado bladed spinners and ripping the buzz baits. both i use a trailer hook and if i can i use a big treble trailer hook.
the jitterbug i usually go slow with but that night slow was getting nothing so i went faster, and then faster.

Bob, did you fish the Pleasant Lake tourney with us this year? I don't remember seeing you there but I came in 3rd and never caught a fish in less than 45-55 ft of water. I had a hard time keeping 1 of my fish alive, a 3.2 smallmouth that was caught on the side of the boat where the depth was 60ft so i ended up losing 2 ounces for the dead fish and missed 2nd place by .02 oz I love fishing the drop shot.
Nope that was one I had to miss, I just learned how to vent a fish to help with those problems. I'm just at beginner level for the drop shot rig It might be a patience issue with me. Might be at the Little Ossipee lunker tourney sunday will see how it goes. Next week (Thurs) heading up to Keezer to pre-fish the open coming up there on the 19th.
Got out fishing today. Was trying to locate some fish for when Shane comes to town the next two days. I found some nice fish and some NEW spots. The NEW spots were very very good and have been entered into my GPS. Lunker of the day was 5-7. Also caught 4-14, 4-13, 4-4, 3-4, 3-3, 3-2. 15 largemouth and 2 smallmouth for the day. Hopefully will be able to put shane on some fish the next 2 days.
Hitting Keezar thurs next week but looked at the calender its the same week of the fair so it should be interesting coming home through all that traffic. I have fished the lower basin now to fish the main part of the lake. I have heard that when the lake turns on for jigging be prepared for some brutes.

Western Maine. Not to far from where we had some tourneys.
Fishing today was tough. Not a cloud in the sky, calm, hot, wasn't very good condition for fishing. Shane and I caught about 12-15 bass at a lake I had been to twice previously. We caught two good ones. I put the pics up in the Maine Fall Bass Fishing thread.
Heading out tomorrow to another lake.
Horn Pond today finally catching them on crankbaits and jigs, tubes did well also. Most fish between 2-3 lbs so the fall bite is turning on here. Most fish were in the shade areas of the structures I caught them on in 6-12ft range. Glad I did not fish the lunker tourney on Little Ossipee in Maine, some one brought in a 8lb LM
Had a blast fishing with Shane J today. The conditions were tough, bluebird skies, light winds and very warm. We still got them though. Between the two of u we landed 20 bass. Our biggest were 4-12,4-10, 3-12, 3-8, 2-15. Hopefully the bite will be better tomorrow with the overcast conditions.
Sounds like great fishing to me
Yeah, that was a blast! Had a great weekend of fishing with Mainebass. Just as suspected, the guys a great stick, a great host, and a great fishing partner. Yeah, the weather threw a curve ball at us, but we figured it out. It was awesome, and plan on doin' it again soon as possible. Here's a couple pics.

I went back there today. I surely didn't set the world on fire but landed 15 largemouth and 3 smallmouth. Biggest 5 were 2-13, 2-15, 3-3, 4-13, 5-10.
Oh and Shane... Remember that magic bush ? Got the 4-13 and 5-10 there.
Anything on the new stuff we found?

The tree we found by the weeds. Got a smallmouth there. I also found another tree twenty feet from that one. Saw those guys from southern new Hampshire. They were much more friendly after they recognized my boat. Talked with them for awhile. They even gave me a couple beers. They had caught 4 bass all day with three guys fishing from there boat.
Wow. They couldn't figure anything out, I guess. That's cool the new stuff's already paying out. Awesome, man!
The fun part about going to a northern lake is picking up some tackle I might need, Shane and Mainebass what was the predominant color the bass were hitting on during your northern adventure? I noticed a rage craw but I don't recognize that color.

I got most of my hits on a crawfish colored rage craw. I would recommend any color that looks like a shiner, a crawfish or a leech.
Colors will vary, depending on water clarity, cloud cover, chop on the water, etc
Clear=Watermelon Red, Green Pumpkin/Purple Gold, Bama Craw
Stained=Green Pumpkin/Chartreuse, Falcon Lake Craw
Muddy=Black/Blue, Falcon
Just a loose guideline really. You can see the Craw I was catchin' some fish on, isn't any of those colors (as a matter of fact, that color doesn't exist, and is just a figment of your imagination!)
The bite was a bit slow today 12 bass but half were over 3 lbs.
5-2
5-2
6-8
Did Keezar yesterday The bite was slow but I was trying to learn as much of the lake I could. The lower end we manage a dozen bass the largest at 3.5 lbs Then the upper big lake over a dozen including a 3 lb and a 2.5 smallie fished it with two other people in the boat. Chatterbait, Jigs, rattletraps and wacky rigs got the fish darker colors in the morning clouds then the bass switched to more natural colors when the sun finally came out. The ramp is another story if the lake goes down anymore I dont know how boats are going to launch for the open coming up I dragged my frame a little bit taking the boat out.
This is what worked on the lake all tangled up after a run on the lake.
I have a quick question that maybe some of you guys can help me with.I posted this topic in the smallmouth forum but received no answers. My home lake that i icefish for trout has a good smallie population. This year i am targeting smallies thru the ice.I know of two spots on the lake that hold smallies during the hardwater period. From what i read smallies use the same wintering spots every year.Long story short, when will they move into these spots?I read it's temp. related.I want to fish these spots before ice-in.Sorry that took so long to explain.
todays tanker. , yup thats pretty much it today except for a small pickerel. Robinson pond hudson for 3 1/2 hours starting at 5:30 am
I didn't have much time to fish today. My friend Aaron and I fished a small pond by his camp in Buckfield, ME. We fished for 3 hours and caught 13 bass between the two of us. Off shore weeds in 6-8 feet was where we caught most of our fish. We didn't get any big fish. We did get 2 fish that weighed in at exactly 3 lbs. I wish we had more time to fish this pond but maybe next time. We had three hours on a pond that neither of us had every fished to figure things out. If we had 8 hours on that pond I am sure we would have caught more fish. I think that I will be going back there in the spring.
Kinda what we found on Keezar we were catching the fish on the weed-grass areas retrieving against the wind through and above any bright green grass.
Caught yesterday in NH water's
10.01 pounds
25 inches long
18 inch girth
WOWSERS
That thing is huge. There must be an article to go with it ?
If you know Ed he is shy but I am slowly getting some info out of him only because he wants to fish in my boat at times. I do know its a small boat pond in NH and he is saying there are larger fish in there. Just 8 ounces shy of the state record for NH. I told him he needs to send that picture to Bassmaster Magazine. Ed is the most patient fisherman I know he more often then not out fishes me in size of fish he catches in the same boat as me. If you heard of people who have a natural knack for bait cadence he has it.
That bass is a fish of many life times. One heck of catch. How deep did he catch it ?
He must be getting a mount ? Did he take it to the taxidermist ?
The girth on that thing looks bigger then 18 inches
Yes he is getting it on a mount his girlfriend knows the person who does all the cabela's mounts for the new stores. All he said was a deep jig caught him he is out fishing again today what a way to spend you vacation with a catch like that.he said he still hasn't stopped shaking

Bob, I haven't stopped shaking. lol. One heck of a fish. Did he get it weighed on a certified scale ?
Congrats to him.
I don't recall seeing him during the Maine Bass Trail tourneys.
Nope he just used his scale he didn't want to go to a regular scale because it didn't beat the record, his scale has matched the tournament scales constantly. Ed fished all but 2 I think, his partner was Justin Kibet
Edit; Just found out Ed did get it weighed at Calef's country store has the sticker showing the weight getting closer to knowing the body of water.
Seeing a fish like that come from NH waters is the coolest thing I have ever seen
Can you imagine I work and fish with the guy so when he comes back to work from vacation that's all i'm going to hear.
Great fish, Trying out a few local spots this weekend ....
I'm dying to get out just bought a new truck and wanting to see how it tow's my boat. but i have to work the whole weekend.
bob, I will come by and pick up your truck and boat for the weekend. I will give you a full report on Monday. Just leave the keys under that front door mat. I will be by about 4:30 am.
I am working all weekend. Good luck out there guys.... Once I am done with this current 10 day stretch of working everyday I will have 11 days off. The bass wont know what hit them.
Wishing I was fishing instead of working the cold nights are going to help the bites I love fishing early mornings that have frost on the ground even better if were snowing
Champlain's fall bite has started. Fished a team open today. My partner and I got 2nd with 24.15lbs all smallies. Jerkbait, Spybait, and Carolina Rig. The killer part is that we thought we had it in the bag. Then this older gentleman comes up... 27.77lbs... largemouths all before 10:30.
Your the first person who has said spybait I have it in my box but haven't used it yet.

6 fish ?
caught a 4lb small 3 weeks ago, im guessing the water was between 15-20 feet deep. If you ask me the fall bite is on, just taking its time. i went out this weekend and got skunked and the water was 2x as cold as when i caught that 4 pounder. I'm thinking of using some deeper diving/sinking baits as well as drop-shotting and swimming jigs.

Mass ?
Yup
That is one heck of a northern bass.
Sweet
Nice to see everyone is still getting after it here in New England. Maine's 50 over 5 is absolutely amazing. His catches just prove how great the fishing is in this part of the country. I think we're all lucky to have such pristine and protected bodies of water in Northern New England. I've been to other parts of the country, specifically down south, that aren't so kind to their lakes and rivers.
I haven't been on the water in a while, but I'm headed to Fort Lauderdale in a couple weeks for vacation, and I just booked a guide for a day on Okeechobee. I've only been really seriously fishing for about 4 seasons now, but it amazes me how much one can learn in a full season on the water. Not only am I catching more fish, but the quality of fish landed has gone up significantly for me. I caught my first ever 5lb SM, and hope to nab a few big Larry's in FL before the dreaded winter arrives.

Sweet fish
Hoping to do a open Sunday on Keezar, with this storm going through and possible 6 inches of rain up north it should raise the lake level and throw off any thought of a normal way to fish that lake.

Not to mention there will be a 20 degree difference from Fri and Sat to Sun. Should be interesting. I wonder how much it will come up. I have seen it so high you cant get underneath the bridge. Speaking of the bridge... there will be a lot of current going through there...hint hint. All the inlets as well will be surging with water.. hint hint. I think its going to be tough but someone is always on fish there. Let me know how it goes.
Bummed, my partner could not get this sunday off for the Kezar open. Now to fish some local lakes for the end of the season till I hear a cold snap comes.
As odd as this is going to sound. October 19th we had a tournament out of Malletts Bay... 57-58 degree water. Smallies still haven't moved up to the shallows... They're still being caught in 37' of water. The water is still really warm for this time of year.
We clobbered the smallies on Jerkbaits in 14'. Some Carolina Rig fish in 20+'
Hearing from a couple people that the Kezar open was a hard one to fish 4ft swells in the lower basin and higher swells in the main lake. 10 fish 37 pounds took it only 18 boats went and 7 came up empty. Moving baits spinner rattles traps were the key baits.
My boat is out of the water till 2015 what a sad thing to say. Now to look at my diary and tally up the year.
The past week has been very consistent when I have been able to get out on the water. All the rain the past week caused a lot of rivers to flood and lakes to go up a couple feet or so. This past weekend was the best fishing of the past week. Yesterday was real good, the jig bite was on.
That's one of my weaker points this year jig fishing and getting the bass to stay on the hooks. Took a friends advice and now using 30# braid tied with a 20 floro leader it seems to be saving better hook sets for me. What i did accomplish is learning the chatterbait technique with different skirts and trailer.
Would be great fishing in some snow.
Fishing in the snow can be pretty fun in the spring or in the late late fall. One thing is for sure you wont be bothered by people water skiing or jet skiing
I have been pretty busy with hockey almost every morning for the past month. And a new Granddaughter now 8 days old.
I managed to get out in the canoe this morning for 2 hours before work.
and last Wed night for 1/2 hour from shore.
Been challenged to a friendly fish off tomorrow will be the first time out in my boat on the month of November. Thinking jigging and rattlebaits will be my friends

This time of year a silver buddy can be very productive. At times it will far out produce a jig. Slow, slow, slow is the name of the game this time of year. Jerkbaits work as well.
Just a pickerel for me one bass for my partner the other boat got 3 total and yes they had the silver buddy I didn't have one but I will now. No sun that was promised thought it was going to snow the whole day out. I guess this is the final for me fogging the boat tomorrow for next year. Bummed got a new gopro hero 4 but all my videos today were done as time laps so I have a couple thousand photos instead of some video. guess I still need to learn more about the gopro.
I have the 3 and find myself getting time laps after owning it for a year. Someone told me it was my fat fingers.....

For me its the wifi remote I think I will use the phone app more bigger screen to see what setting I am in.
Some of the ponds are icing up around me Swains is getting ice now, Can't wait to get some smelt fishing in maybe be a better year then last year.
Great East lake Sunday.
