Px-R. Why So Cheap 2024

fishing user avatarlordpaxin reply :

I'm curious why a 500$ reel is so cheap now

Is u have to get 2 more

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

I was looking at these yesterday. The USDM version and the JDM version. It looks to me like the USDM version is a better looking reel with a better looking drag star. If I had $300.00 to spend right now, I would be tempted to buy my first Daiwa.

Cough it up John. You know you're gonna get one....lol. You can't resist. You are addicted.

It's not "so cheap now," it has been discontinued in the US, so they're on closeout.

I am only addicted to Conquest 50's. LOL

Trust me Hootie, I do not have the money! With Christmas next Thursday, I don't think my wife is going to front me any more money considering a NRX802C was delivered yesterday.

I hope they come out with an updated version using the TWS they are using in the Tatula, and now the Zillion.

They have a T3 Air, which is their top of the line bait finesse reel right now.

PX-R is getting discontinued so its going on clearance :). It's still an amazing reel on one of the most beloved platform of all time, so I think its worth getting.

I agree with it being worth getting.  I bought one at the beginning of this year and never once regretted my decision.  While the T3 Air looks like a heckuva reel, there's still something special about the Pixy frame that makes me hope they'll try to introduce an updated version on that platform.

They are making Alphas SV soon, really excited to get my hands on those once they come out!

the Pixy R is a great reel!  Got one when they first came out as well you cant have enough pixys...lol

TW is def blowing them out as there might be something new coming at ICAST next year...

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

This reel should never have been $500 in the first place. The PX68 has been available for 350 and less from japan for years.

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

I saw that,  but I just don't see a need for the reel in my aresnal.  Maybe, I am wrong, but seems like a lot of money for a reel, that I could get spinning gear to do.

I got married a couple of months ago and my groomsmen got me a $250 gift card to TW so, I am tempted, but just can't see it.  I'll probably just stock up on lures so I can be set for the rest of my life, hahah

Right BUT most people dont know crap about the JDM market...Hence all the crap they sell at Bass pro geared towards 95% of the fishermen..

I give anglers a little more credit I suppose. Anyone who is in the market for a reel costing $500 is probably going to be doing some research.

fishing user avatarTrey Harpel reply :

you would think, but people still buy overpriced stuff at BPS...

the upper end market is not as big as you think...

shoot BPS doesnt even carry the Pixy OR the Tatula Type R in the stores...

And since the release of the Pixy in 2002 I have not owned a spinning reel as these things can fling a small bait with the right rod no problem..

fishing user avatarthehooligan reply :

Great deal on a great reel, even better buy the gift card for 10% off and get the reel for $270  :eyebrows:

Had to stop myself from getting one, ive had 3 or four now. If i wasnt on such a tight budget i would of probally grabbed one.

Micro jigs, neko rigs, really small hard baits... so yup anything small that you want to cast on the baitcaster.

I think the answer is that as a Pixy derivative, it can indeed handle lighter baits. BUT, as essentially a "from the factory" Pixzilla, with a multidisc drag stack good for about 9 pounds, it will handle much larger baits and fish. You're really only limited by the spool capacity for your chosen line...

I do use mine for lighter baits with 6lb test line but that's a chosen application - not a limitation of the reel.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Oh man, what a great opportunity. If it were other times probably I would have jumped on the deal in an eyeblink, nowdays no more.

A list of NIB reels I have.

1 Airy Red Pixy

1 Chronarch 50 Mg

1 Citica 200 D

1 Citica 200 E

1 Citica 200 G5

1 Alphas Type F

1 Daiwa SS SV

Yup, not to point out that I still have a few reels that have been used only once or twice.

So nope, no PX-R for me.

I already have a px68 that I've upgraded the drag and spool bearings on. Plus added the bearing to the worm gear and the knobs. It'd a Pxr basically other than the clicking drag and some cosmetics.I like it a lot but hear great things about the sv and it's the same price.

The Bait Monkey KO'd me in the third round.  The sneaky little son of a gun isn't very big, but he's fast...

Keep your eyes open. I just picked up a PX-R for a little over $50 out of pocket after gift cards and discounts. It was listed as a right handed reel in a left handed box and therefore knocked down another $20!

I probably should have. I was just in a buying mood I guess. I'll end up selling this before I even use it. April is far away and I really want an sv.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

I´ve been thinking about this reel in detail, ok, a 200 dollars discount is a reallly good discount, bordering AWSOM !, but ..... as much as I love Pixies, seriously I doubt the PX-R is as good as a SS SV which BTW cost pretty much the same the PX-R costs, with added benefits: you have several gear ratios avalable in the SS and you can purchase an extra SV spool with different depth.

Id take a pixy/px-r all day long over any of the ss platforms. Dont get me wrong, the sv spools are sweet, but the reels feel like a cheap plastic zaion version of a steez. The pixy is a way more solid reel. On the other hand, a td-z/steez with sv spool is pretty amazing...

Completely agree.  I prefer the px over the ss sv.  And yes, the sv spool in the tdz/steez are pretty awesome.

I don't think the sv1000 fits the ito.  RCS 1016 will fit.

fishing user avatarDirtyDeuceGoose reply :

My thought process was if the 1016 will work then the 1000 should as well. If not I'll use the 1016 or continue using the Steez 100 spool that's in the reel now.

It's not "better," necessarily. The SV spools have strong braking profiles that make them very easy to cast, with little thumbing. They're also very light, which gives the option of going more finesse, or filling it up to cast heavier stuff. The 1016 doesn't really have the finesse capabilities, but can still cast somewhat light baits well. It is a little more wild than the SV. It takes a bit more thumbing, but is capable of casting much further. The SV are not great distance spools. I actually much prefer the 1016 in every reel I've tried it in, over the SV. The SV just has too much braking for my tastes.

I had a Steez and tried both 1016 and SV spools in it. I prefer the SV spools over the 1016 with lures 1/4oz to 3/8oz.

I didn't think they felt like zaion, but they definitely didn't have the solid refined feel of a Steez. Performance-wise the SS was pretty sweet though.

Sv spool is really nice for extremely windy days and finesse fishing. I spooled the sv spool up with 8lb hybrid and was bombing 1/2oz lipless cranks. Then I tied on a 1/16oz shakeyhead and was getting almost the same distance as my tuned bfs shimano reels with shallow spools. Very impressive spool, if I ever step back into the daiwa world again it would most likely be a reel with the sv or ss air spool in it...

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

My new PXL-R arrived from Tackle Warehouse today.  I spooled it up with 15 lb. Power Pro and a six foot, 6 lb. fluorocarbon leader and mounted it on my Kistler KLX 6'9" Finesse Worm, Tube and Jig rod.  The combo is LIGHT.   :eyebrows:

I put on a 1/4 oz. practice casting plug and gave it a few throws out in the yard, in the dark.  The first toss went across the yard and into the trees.    I can't wait to try again tomorrow in the daylight, with a 1/8 oz. weight.

I can tell I already love this reel.  :respect-059: And I already hate winter and it just started....
