These are the bait casters that I have in mind. I am looking for one to mainly worm fish with. Any suggestions on which reel is the best bang for the buck is??? Also any other reels that are not on the list but under $200 will be considered also. Thanks
Plfueger Supreme XT- $149.99
Plflueger Patriarch- $199.99
Abu Garcia REVO SX- $159.99
Abu Garcia REVO STX- $199.99
Daiwa Tatula 100 Type R- $199.99
diawa tatula will most likely cast the farthest- all are great buys under 200 i like the lew's tournament pro
*i do not own the tatula just hear say from what everyone is saying on here
Out of all those, I'd say Chronarch....but having said that, maybe you should wait until the Curado Is are released?
My personal choices would be 5 or 6, and I'd add Pinnacle and Lew's offerings in your price range to your total list. Be sure to check the prices at http://www.beatthebigboxboys.com/ before you commit.
The tatula is a good caster but my curado 50 casts just as good. The new Curado I is coming out this Friday, and if its anything like the Metanium its gonna eat the Tatula in casting distance. And its right in your price range. On 2/20/2014 at 1:54 AM, Paul Peixoto said:diawa tatula will most likely cast the farthest- all are great buys under 200 i like the lew's tournament pro

X2. Exactly what I was thinking. Ron may still have that Type R for 155 TYD. Give him a call.
I own 3 and 6. Both really nice, though you can't go wrong with a chronarch. All products I have bought from Shimano have been supurb.
T3 ballistic is 150$ at TW, the handle on them is cheap looking (unless you get the 8.1 gear ratio) but its performance is top notch. Its breaking system is amazing as well.

I have the Tatula R and the revo STX. I love them both. I also think if I were you I would consider Lews. Probably the BB1 Pro or Tournament pro. I have the regular tournament on the way.
Quantum Smoke, and Energy are good reels, I also like the daiwa t3-b in this range along with the tatula and type r are pretty sweet as well. This price range is way too competitive to pick just one the lews offerings are great, and the new curado looks like a stud. the new *** reels look interesting too...

Welcome to the Forums!
I'm interested in the Pflugers as well! But, start doing some poking around on the internet and you can find those reels for cheaper! Pick one that is comfortable to you. Buy it, catch fish, and post pictures!
Thanks for the replies guys. Also thanks for the recommendation on beatthebigboxguys.com. This is my first time buying a ''expensive'' bait caster so I'm trying to get all advice I can before making a purchase.
I bet you would have to work hard to find a reel between $150 and $200 that wasn't pretty good. Some will be better than others, but all should get the job done without much fuss. On your list I would be leery of the SX, but only because of all the threads I read on how hard it was to dial in the Gen 2 reel. Was a great caster when dialed in, but seems quite a few people couldn't get it dialed in right. I assume that is no longer a problem with Gen 3s, but haven't had a reason to researched it.
Would you be willing to buy used? Got to tell you that the flea market forum has had some really great deals lately. A couple that caught my eye were a Sol for $110 and 10 Zillions (all in very good shape) for $150. That is a great price on those reels in that condition. There have also been some Gen 1 and Gen 2 Premiers at very good prices. However, what really upset me was a new (or like new) Purple Alphas for $175 that didn't get posted until after 1 a.m. and was sold by 3 a.m. or shortly thereafter. All of those reels are very good reels.
There are tons of great options in that price range. I primarily use the lews line. I would look at the tournament pro. I don't own any shimano, but I'm really interested in the curado i.
I would see what Ron from Valley Sports could do for you on a Tatula. I don't think the Type R is worth the price from what I have read.
I have Chronarchs and I like them but if you want to buy a new Shimano, wait for the Curado I. No harm in having the latest and greatest, right?
For what it's worth, I very much like my SXs.
I have 1, 2, 4 and 5. Plus I have various Lews. Each one is dialed for a specific use on different rods. I use the Lews Team Golds for lighter baits and the others for mid to heavy baits. I like the Lews that's why they are used on the lighter baits. It took me several trips to get the STX dialed in.
I bought my sons Tatula Rs as gifts. I might get some for myself.
I have 10 Academy Mettles too. I'm surprised how much I like and use them.

How do you like the Pfluegers?
If you buy a reel that says SHIMANO on the side of it you wile a better person - for a while.
Curado I goes on sale tomorrow :-)
I think you've picked out some great reels. Imo, best bang for your buck is the lews tournament pro which can be found for at or under 150
Thanks guys! Is there any other recommendations out there?

Sorry on delayed response. Contrary to my wife's opinion I don't spend 24/7 on my iPad. Pflueger Patriarch gives you more precise adjustments.
You need to be able to fine tune reels with every adjustment possible when casting light baits in windy conditions. Otherwise it doesn't matter all that much. I do like faster gear ratios for most applications so that determines what I'll buy from now on.
The T3-1016 is on sale right now at TW for $202. Nothing on your list is even in the conversation with that reel.
The BPS flyer is offering the Curado 200G for $99 on March 15th.

I keep reading this, but when I go to their site, the price still reads $268.88

Thanks. Wish I had known early last week. Shipped out a MO Friday for a T3MX1016XHL with a couple upgrades for a little over the TW $202 price. Not familiar with the high end Daiwas as they are above my price limit. The reel I picked up has an RCS1016 spool in it instead of the stock one and ABEC7 Boca Bearing is installed on the spool and a normal bearing in the level wind. Did I do good, or should I have gone for the TW reel? Reel has minor scratches.

You did good since you got a upgraded t3 MX around 200$ shipped. The t3 1016 is really similar to the t3 MX expect it has better spool and cork knobs (there covered with something). I believe the spool on your t3 MX is the same as the t3 1016 so you got a great deal...I like the t3 MX the best.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't mean to high jack the thread. It is a nice looking reel. Looking forward to some warmer weather to try it.
You did good. Report back on how you like it - good or bad.
Well after a lot reading and asking questions I decided to go the Daiwa Tatula Type R. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice I will keep them in mind for my next setup.
I own 4 Plflueger Patriarch 3 of the silver and one of the new blue.
Best reels I have ever owned. Not saying the others are bad reels at all, every reel has its good and bad points. If I were to purchase again today, I would try and find all silver patriarchs. The blue is nice, but feels cheap to be honest. Not like the titanium silver ones. But the blue ones have a oil hole on the bottom.
As for performance. The will throw a mile, but with each breakoff you will lose some distance. I run 12lbs at 100 yrds. last year, this year im going to run 10lbs. So hoping to get even more distance. I have pulled in a 6 and 5 lbers with these reels with ease. Great drag system. Im sure any real in the 200 dollar range is going to be a good reel to be honest.
