Sunline Sunline Super Fc Sniper Or Shooter? 2024

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Wondering which one would be the better choice for flipping and pitching to cover. Thank in advance for your help.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

By all accounts I've read Shooter is a fantastic flip/pitch line.

The relations between shooter and sniper are akin to Trilene XT (shooter) and XL (sniper).

I have 16lb Sniper for Jigs, spinnerbaits and 8lb on a spinning rod for DS and Shakyheads. I like the 16lbs a lot so far (fished it 3 days for about 15 hours so far).

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

i looove sniper! its awesome. shooter is great too but after seein tackletours review of shooter idk. the knot strength was about cut in half when tied using a palomar if i read correctly but there are other knots that are about 100% break strength. honestly, sunline super fluorocarbon is awesome for flippin and pitchin. 15.99 for 200yrds, cant beat that. ive never had an issue. ill use sniper for flippin and pitchin also and same results, never a problem.

fishing user avatar.Paxamus. reply :

I use sniper as a leader to braid in 16 and 20- I LOVE that stuff!

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

no problem! sunline is top notch, you cant go wrong with any of that stuff.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Thanks again guys. I was using Dragon Call and feel it's the best fluoro I've ever used, yet astronomically expensive! I tried the Sniper and Sunline's Reaction yesterday and very satisfied. Has anyone tried their FX 2 braid?

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

never heard of dragon call. yea man sniper is legit. havent used reaction yet. dude the fx2 braid is just..... hmmm.... ridiculous!! amazing!! stuff. imo, the best braid on the market.

fishing user avatarG_money reply :

If you're going to spend the money on Shooter you're WAY better off getting Toray Superhard Upgrade it blows Shooter off the map in every aspect.

However, Sniper FC is just as good or really darn close as Shooter for a lot less...so I would say def get the Toray if you want the ultimate fluoro or go with Sniper FC if you want to save some dime and still have a great line...in the end all 3 are great lines, but price point Shooter isn't worth the premium price if that makes sense...there are better lines in that price class.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Thanks for your input Fl;sh, but been there done that. Wasn't impressed with Toray at all. To stiff with more memory than I prefer. Their Super Hard upgrade needed to be retied anytime I fished rock or heavy wood. One kink or nick= lost fish. With brief experience with Snipper it blows Toray away. Besides that if I was going to use Toray, for the money, XPS is a better bang for your buck, which made by Toray.

I do appreciate your input though.

Dragon Call is without a doubt the best Fluoro I've ever used. Unfortunately the $$$$ makes it a rich mans product.

Never had any of these issues. In fact Toray has been the most consistent performing line I've ever fished but to each his own. The stiffness part is to be expected if you're fishing casting gear it makes no difference...now on spinning gear it's a different animal. Also the stiffness of line is 99% of the time what adds to tensile strength and hook setting power...limp soft lines are easy handling, think Seaguar Invisx, but have terrible longevity and shock strength.

Never tried that other line you mentioned...good luck and tight lines.

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

Not trying to hi-jack your Thread but I am curious as to what type of cover you are pitchin in. I am pitchin in this type of cover. I use braid but would prefer a heavy copoly or flourocarbon. I may try a 25# line and see how it works.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Most definitely braid territory there. Braid cuts through vegetation, where as fluoro will just grab and wrap. 60-65lb braid is my preference.

I am a former XPS and Toray SU user. I'm a heck of a lot more accurate with Snipper which is due to it's extremely low memory, (cast a country mile) less friction through the guides, and have had zero problems with hook sets, and so far no problems with tinsel strength and most of the waters I fish are rock mines. I also believe Sniper is smaller in diameter as well. Like we've both said, "to each his own." ;)

I guess I should have also mentioned I'm using 20lb test Sniper.

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

yea sunline has some of the thinnest diameter to pound test lines on the market, its pretty awesome. thats what first drew me to sunline, then i actually used it and was just beyond stoked on it. to this day i have never had an issue, not one unlike when i used seaguar.... problems most the time.

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

I would try Tatsu.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

If you like Seagar products you'd be blown away by Sunline, Toray and Magabass Dragon Call.

I started out with Seagar, 4 years of failing was enough to never go back. High stretch, weak knots, low abrasion resistance.

flash, are you using Super Hard Upgrade or the Super Hard Premium Plus? Which one is the newer of the two?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I'm using the Toray Solaroam Superhard Upgrade Fluorocarbon...they have the newer Bawo lines out that specialize in one thing for instance: finesse.

Here's a link to the one I'm buying (I caught 2 bass over 6 lbs on it and 5 more fish with two being over 3.5lbs without retying yesterday) link: http://www.***.com/Toray_Solaroam_Upgrade_Fluorocarbon_164yds/descpage-BTUF.html

And I'm only fishing 10 lb test...and it stands up to my try-and-flip-the-boat-hooksets; I just really love this stuff and can't imagine anyone having trouble with it.

And I agree with the above posts Seaguar has gone right down the toilet: they use to make a quality line now 1/2 their spools aren't worth the effort it takes to throw them in the nearest trash can.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Ha ha ha, I just placed an order for Toray's Bowa for my spinning gear.

I may have gave the wrong impression in my first reply, Toray is a great product but I've lost more than one Hudd 68 dragging them on the bottom, so I am a bit bais now. LOL

I like the 20lb Sniper for jigs and flipping a little better, the 16lb for big reaction lures. 16lb Shooter for crystal clear waters. I also love Sunline's new Reaction fluoro specifically made for reaction lures. It's smoke in color or as they call it" Stealth Grey."

Just curious what knot(s) are you using?...I use the san diego jam, and that knot Grigsby is always showing on youtube (I think someone actually had a link to it in a post earlier this week.)

The only I use is the San Diego Jam unless I am using my drop shot rig which I use the palomar. I learned it several weeks ago and love it. Great strength and simple to tie.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Improved clinch for Fluoro, Palomar for braid. I've never had knot issues. I'm also using Maxima for my Hudds now. A bit thick in diameter, but it's held up extremely well. Picked up some 60lb Sunline FX 2 Braid, Bue-Green. I'll be putting it to the test today.

I've been an XPS fan myself since first trying it. Used just about every fc imaginable, including seaguar, which I liked, but if I can get the performance at a lower price...

That being said, I tried XPS on spinning last yr, and wasn't impressed, so I bit the bullet and bought some fc sniper for drop shotting. Extremely impressed with it so far! Casts great, spools well, handles well.

I have 8 lb XPS on 2 spinning rigs and have hot had a single issue. I don't fill my spools all the way up, I keep it 3/4 full and it's fine. I want to try Sniper but XPS has been so good for me and it's a lot cheaper so I willstick with XPS for the time being. I am going to put 12 lb XPS on my new baitcaster next week.

I have a spinning reel with InvizX and can't wait until it's done. I don't really like it because it seems to have poor abrasion resistance and has a fair amount of stretch. XPS is more abrasion resistant and doesn't seen to have as much stretch.

Yeah I was surprised the XPS didn't perform on the spinning for me last yr, as I love it on my baitcasters. Not having used spinning much before last yr, I wonder if i spooled it on wrong. It was also 10#, instead of the lighter stuff I'm using now. May have to give it another go, and see...

Part of the issue could be that it was 10 lb. I find 8 very manageable but think 10 might be pushing it on most spinning reels.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

I'm a former XPS fan myself. For casting gear only, IMO it's a bit to stiff for spinning gear. 8lb was the absolute highest test I could get away with on spinning gear. Any higher and it would jump off the reel and I would get a few line twists here and there. I also noticed the current XPS has a manila tint to it, which I didn't like. I just bought Toray's Bawo Finesse Fluoro as well as Sunline's FC Biwaka Guide Special for spinning gear and really like them both a lot.

fishing user avatarHOIST-N-HAWGS reply :

Think I'm going to give Toray another try. I do like the Sniper and Shooter, but after reading these to reviews one would have to lean towards Toray.

Hey flash, I noticed Toray/Blackwater had a new fluoro coming out, so contacted Blackwater on FB and through their site. I asked which line would be the better choice for bottom bouncing and flipping to cover, their Super Hard Upgrade or their new BAWO Hard premium plus Hi-grade fluorocarbon? These are both of the replies I received:.....

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your interest in our line. The best line for the application you asked for would be out BAWO Hard premium plus Hi-grade fluorocarbon.

Hey Paul, for flipping and bottom bouncing our go to line is the Super Hard Premium Plus Hi-Grade. It has all the strength you need for those methods in any Lake condition.. The Upgrade Line is also a very strong line but for what you mentioned Hi-Grade will do the job!

I'll let you know what I think of it once it arrives and I've had a chance to test it on the water.

You're coming around:)...no seriously though I can't imagine you won't be very pleased with the line. Especially if abrasion resistance, longevity (wears like iron), and sensitivity are the biggest attributes you look for in fluorocarbon. I shouldn't be giving away my secret (at least what I consider a secret) but this stuff is incredibly invisible underwater...it's just less visible than other fluoro's under the water. Just today I spanked my fishing partner again in a clean lake (and again I was in the back of the boat on the lake he lives on) the fish just don't see this line.

If you don't like it message me and I'll eat some crow.

Also I really think you should give Shaw Grigsby's fluoro knot a try linky:

The big bass in my avatar was taken on 10 lb Toray Superhard Upgrade and he was over 9 lbs.
