Love megabass
Crazy.
I broke one and just got the replacement. I suppose I should expect it will break too if this is why. Someone else was just talking about breaking a Levante and they moved him up to an Orochi instead when calling in the warranty...could be why.
Well that’s concerning considering I’ve had my Flatside Special for about a month now. I wonder what action they are taking with purchased rods.
The memo came out after lunch, so I have no other info. I cant find anything online anywhere that talks about it. I jokingly told coworkers that it would suck if they got hacked and it wasn't true. 7 hours later and still nothing else about it, I am starting to wonder. It struck me as odd that they specifically used the term "destroy" when asking us to get rid of the rods. I understand why, but it seems as though they could still sell them deeply discounted, void of warranty. I would imagine there would still be a demand for those rods even with the knowledge that it is defected.
What the what? I'm picturing guys in stock rooms jumping up and down on rods, or laying them down in the parking lot and running them over with a pickup, or squirting lighter fluid in a barrel full of rods. This isn't how recalls are normally handled.
Strange, TW has none in stock until October. Were you required to send the destroyed rods back or did some "escape" destruction?
And what do they plan to do with the three I've already purchased?????

You have to destroy yours, too. ????
They'll wait for you to call them for a warranty claim if it breaks.

All rods, casting and spinning, 2019 models must be destroyed at once. No mark downs or sales with voids of warranty, just gone. We had almost 30 in stock. Gone. I am still trying to find out more details, but that's what has been made aware to us at the time. It is due to a defect they picked up on in all of the 2019 models.
Did you just start snapping them in half or something lol? Seems like such a shame, especially since the rods have been very well received.
Wow! That's crazy. My 12 year old Berkley Cherrywood that cost me $20 is still catching fish.
Send them to me, I will be sure to destroy them.

Likely a dumb ?, but have you or any of your coworkers tried to contact them to see if in fact it is true..?

actually you would be surprised. when I was in my 20s I worked retail and we would be asked to destroy stuff every now and then. we had a bin where we would put it all and then one lucky day somebody got to go out back and destroy it however they saw fit and put it all into the dumpster. usually reflected the end of the line in some form of technology that had become dated, or some kind of product that was going to be no longer made because it was a total POS
I asked a buddy who works at a local tackle shop that sells MB and he said this is actually 100% legit.
I just went to the garage and broke my destroyers in half. You say its Levante?.....be right back.
We used a special saw and sawed all of them in half. In order to get a refund for our rods, we needed to send Megabass a picture of each one in inventory after it was destroyed.
So... Why?

Yeah, you wouldn't want to use a regular saw and risk damaging the fibers while destroying those rods...

Whats the going price for a "destroyed" rod?
Props to Megabass.
Any word what happens with us existing rod holders? Or should we just go ahead and break them too lol
Megabass is offering to upgrade the warranty of every 2019 Levante to a 3 year warranty. Not all rods were defective, this was just a precaution. Also they said they are offering an upgrade. They have good CS. Call if you are concerned or need information.
I also had an order in with TW for another Brailist. In stock when I ordered on Monday, back ordered until August 5th on Tuesday, now back ordered until October. I called to cancel my order and while talking with them they stated they did get a notice to stop selling due to a manufacturing defect. They also said they were told it didn't affect all the Levante's but Megabass weren't taking any chances.
I still like the Levante's I have but need a rod prior to mid/late October so I cancelled anyway.
Has anyone actually have their levante break?
I compliment them on taking action, but I have never seen a rod company with such a reputation for breakage.
Been fishing Megabass for years. Never had one break. Not saying it can't happen but hasn't with any of the models I have owned. Fished both series of Orochi XX and a couple Destroyers.
Megabass makes fabulous products. I applaud what they did after a mistake. I will continue to use there products regardless.

OP probably disclosed something he shouldn't have, and therefore he changed the name of the post and the content to something generic.
I agree with NHBull. I love Megabass lures, but haven’t been overwhelmed with their rods. I have all G.Loomis and Shimano. G. Loomis takes some heat (right so in some cases) for sloppy quality control (mainly cosmetic), but it hard to see them sending out rods and having to recall all of a whole series because they break too easily.

Was my feeling too ! Felt more sarcastic than generic to me though ????

Recalling/destroying the defective rods and extending the warranty: Good.
Keeping it secret: Bad.
They should know how important spin and rep is in this market. Big mistake to try and keep it secret. They should own up and make good.
Well i had called and asked for some clarification..some rods indeed do have defects but was told to continue to fish as i would normally but if something were to happen to have a peace of mind knowing that my warranty has been upped to 3 years lol. I dont mind since i love my levante but for us existing rod owners since we have no option of returns or upgrade its a wait to see if it breaks type of deal.

I’ve never owned one. Do they as a brand break often?

In this case Google is your friend

I did. I didn't find anything other than the normal amount of people have issues with them, as any company might have a bummer rod here and there.

Seriously though, if they offered on their facebook page (or wherever) to replace the rods , I imagine most owners wouldn't even go through the trouble. For people who fish with multiple rods the extended warranty is enough, but if someone was using one of these as their only rod they'd probably want to exchange it. I doubt there are many people using one of these as their only rod, so there wouldn't be that much expense. Or at least the expense wouldn't be as much as the damage to their rep not doing it.

I don't really care one way or another, I'm just mad cause InterBike folded after moving from Vegas to Reno, and now I can't write off my yearly trip to Sin City.
