So this is happening.....
Considering it's more difficult to break a reel than a rod, maybe they'll have better luck this time.
Hmm...
With their reputation for rods, why would anyone try their reels?
Yeeeeah... no.
No chance in hades for me.
I love their rods, but reels? The casting will come in left and right hand retrieves, looks like it only comes in 6.3:1, it comes with two interchangeable handles, and weighs 7.2 to 7.6 ounces. They have two models one with 6 bearings ($149) and one with 11 bearings ($249), so it's actually a fairly expensive reel.
They are going to have a spinning reel also, that will some how be able to switch reel speeds from 4.7:1 to 6.7:1
We'll see, but it will be hard for me to switch from Daiwa to Carrot Stix when it comes to reels. Especially considering the price.
Carrotjunk reel or Chronarch ?
Such a difficult choice ..... hmmm, nah.
" I can't wait for these Carrot Stix reels to come out!!" Said no one ever.
Oh my goodness. Seems like nowadays if a company makes a rod they have to make their own reels too...
Next thing you know Daiwa will put TWS on their STEEZ
So here is my two cents on this company. I am a Boston guy. Up here Charlier Moore is akin to Roland Martin everywhere else. I like Charlie very entertaining and great guy. He is extremely generous and after he was too busy to do a guide trip for me last year mailed me a package of free goodies gear, books, autographs, spices, hats etc over $200.00. So my Dad watches Charlie Moore and its about the time I get into fishing.
He wants a carrot stick because Charlie Moore uses one. So naturally Father's day rolls around and I get him one. That was five years ago. He broke his first one, got a replacement and you can add an additional rod for cheap. So I get myself one. 2 years later my dad breaks his again. For a guy that fishes regularly they are fine if your not highsticking or cracking the whip on a hooks. If you have a newer guy/gal on the Rod its a matter of time till this thing explodes.
Fail
i wonder if these reels will cause a rod breakage when you set the hook.
The looks are decent, but I doubt you'll find one in my boat unless someone else brings it to use.

Thing is, they don't. Just yet another rebrand.

Yep. That's what I meant. Thanks for clearing that up
They look nice but there company's reputation is not the best to say the least...
thanks but no thanks. i'll stick with the proven leaders in the reel game.
They use carrots to make the reels too?
Nope.
Looks like an okuma Citrix....
they are trying to re build their brand which I respect. A new owner took over and is trying to bring them back...no problem with that imo. However, he chose one heck of a challenge lol
Why revive a damaged brand name? Makes no sense to me, especially with the way the brand gets trashed around here-if you guys are any indication, they will be losing some money in a big way.
Like Grant said, somebody is trying to revive the name. I haven't seen him around for a while though. And we were just talking about Daiwa losing it
I agree, these guys would have been better off starting a brand new company. At least then they would be starting from zero, instead of negative.
I wonder if this is a ploy, they're secretly designed to break other rods with use so Carrot isn't the only company with the problem of excessive breaking? If not I don't understand in what world a company with such a poor quality rating would make a baitcaster. The pinnacle of elitism when it comes to quality.
Can't wait to see these new reels from Carrot Stix. Very exciting. Been using these rods since 2007 and never had any issues. All major rod manufacturers are in the reel market also. They are trying to build a brand and expand their product line.
They've got a 2 speed spinning reel coming out too. Lol
The two speed reel seems interesting, I can see certain situations where it would be cool to have that option.

I can see a lot if situations where that'd be cool, and I haven't spooled up spinning gear in ages.

Is this another one of those "said no one ever" jokes?

Why would anyone buy a reel from a company known for making rods that break if you look at them funny? They're trying to use their name to sell reels but their name is mostly worthless.

I don't know of a company that has more rod breakage issues combined /w awful customer service. Why would anybody want anything to do with them.?
Good googly give them a chance with new owner
He'd be ahead of the game if he just bought the assets and launched his own brand. Starting from scratch is hard but not as hard as behind the eight ball. I wouldn't waste my time pushing yet another rebranded reel.
Some of the Carrot stix rods were really great. I have one of the original Pro Grade rods, and it has been great to me through the years. Insanely light and very crisp and sensitive, and bring it and use it every time out. It has had a lot of use and caught me a lot of fish. I have been considering getting another but from all the bad reviews lately it almost seems like I got a lucky one or something. I don't want to go through the customer service fiasco either. Im not sure about the reels, but who knows, they may be great. The spinning reel is a new innovation that I could see gaining popularity for sure. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
Well, it's talked about on Tackle Tour. Looks like 3 reels at different price points and WOW they are heavy!
http://www.tackletour.com/previewcarrotstixspectrareel.html
First things first, I look at tackle with an open mind and not preconceived notions, I ended up with some good stuff like that. Second, I'll look at value relative to the price point and decide if it worth my time and money to try it. The spinning reels are heavy and the 2-speed option is something that applies to saltwater species more than freshwater but I know some musky guys that might like the size of the reels with a 2 speed option. This is a new company, they have been bought by a Chinese company from e21 and then a Canada based outfit now owns it and they are trying to make it better.
They should just pound their advertising with "Customer Satisfaction" expressing how since the company has changed the PR has too. Another thing they really need is a bigger name pro fisherman backing their product, the only one I've seen is Charlie Moore. It looks like they recently launched a new website, they have a new warranty claim form where you just send them a picture of the broken rod and S&H for a replacement. It seems like they are making progress, but it's going to be a long road.
