Something in this lineup sticks out like a black sheep.
Test run through March, 2009.
The STX has been substituted for a CTE200GT. By dedicating the STX
as a single purpose reel, issues with the magnetic braking system have
been addressed. A full report will follow after one full year of ownership.

Wow, I can't wait...
I remember you saying you preferred spinning tackle for jerkbaits,
but I prefer a baitcaster. However, I don't like fishing baitcasters
at night, especially with a technique that requires fast, repetitive
casting. I often need a slight "adjustment" which I can't see very
well in the dark.
Although I don't throw Floating Rapalas or other light lures often,
that is another thing I use the Fenwick for. It's really a fine rod
and way underutilized by me.

Diggin the setups yall! Im really turning to be into a tackle junkie and enjoy looks at the equipment! How bout some pictures yall!!
Btw, roadwarrior, so whats the story on the stx?
I don't have dedicated setups. I have all my rods on my rod racks, and my reels in soft reel cases. When I go fishing, I choose the rod/reel combos I need for what I want to do. What line the reel has on it is a pretty big factor as well. My arsenal changes yearly, and I'm addicted to foam split grips at the moment. I only own 1 loomis rod right now! I sold most of them to my uncle for a good price. I could have all Loomis rods next year....I'm spontaneous like that. Right now I have...

I have several bulk spools of Trilene 100% fluoro, so I'm using fluoro more than I normally would or 'need' to (i.e. cranking). I'm using 90% Trilene fluoro, and 10% CXX at the moment. And just FYI, I'm more of a rod junkie than a reel junkie. I bought all 5 Viento's at a stupid price over this fall, so I couldn't turn them down. They turned out to be great reels, and I ignore the twitchin' bar. Everything but the TD-Z's and IMX were bought this year. I live 5min from Cabelas and know the guys in the bargain cave, and visit it at least once a week to snag closeouts and liquidation items. If a rod has a guide foot that slipped out....I get it for a lot cheaper than I should ($150 Steez's) I have way more rods and reels than I need, and I will generally sell several and start again next year. It keeps me satisfied with buying things, and I don't have to spend a lot of money. I'm really curious about the Skeet Revo right now, and may have to trade a couple of Anniversary Zillions for a pair. Tackle buying and selling is kind of a game to me, and I love it.....
Natural, have you dumped the new citicas already? :-?
QuoteNatural, have you dumped the new citicas already? :-?
Yes. They were nice, and I couldn't wait to try them out. I have major A.D.D. though, and I end up doing this every year. The Citica surprised me as a reel than could do a lot for the price, and was great looking. I had decided that I didn't want to spend a lot of money on reels, and the Citica fit the bill. As deals came along on better reels, I just had waaay to many. I had 8 Citicas 2 months ago, and sold them all on the Texas Fishing Forum, but I still recommend them.
Quote:) Wow and I thought I had a problem. :o Nice haul Natural!!!
Thanks, but I will lighten the load. The Zillion rods and Quantum Superlites are here to stay, as well as the XMG 50's. I imagine I will sell a couple of the Steez rods though. They are very nice, but I just don't need several of them. I'll thin out a few reels as well. I admittedly have fallen in love with the steez compile-x spinning rod though....it's a keeper. I'll probably keep both. You have to step back and look at what you are actually using versus what is just a trophy on your rod rack.

I think he would have gotten along much better with that reel if it had centrifugal brakes. That is the only reason I'm interested in the Skeet Reese Revo. I owned 2 SX's and that magnetic system is too temperamental for me.

I still have a couple Revo S reels I kept for the drag systems and have them on pitchin and flippin rods. The centrifugal brakes on those work alright though the actual brake assembly itself seems sort of chintzy. One other thing, of the 2 reels, the SX and STX, I found the SX to be more unforgiving than the STX for some reason though I found neither was worth the effort. Lots of potential though, change the braking systems on those reels and you'll probably see my Pfluegers up for sale here.
;D
I'm on a golf kick at the moment. This thread reminds me of the "What's in the bag" article in golf magazines that tell what a pro golfer usually carries in his bag.
Here's mine. I doubt it will change much since I have much to learn before I spend more on weapons.
Three Extreme spinning rods, two medium heavy, one medium, with Shimano Saros spinning reels. All 6' 6".
One Johnny Morris signature spinning rod and reel combo, medium heavy, 6' 6". Bought because it was 70 dollars off the 229.00 regular price.
Five baitcasting rod combos.
Two Nitros.
One extra heavy that can handle lures to 6 oz, and 40 pound test line. For tossing wake baits. 7' 10"
The other a 7" heavy action used mostly for 4 - 6 inch soft plastic swimbaits.
Three extreme combos. All with 7.1:1 reels. I figure it's easier for me to slow down my retrieve than to really speed it up when necessary. Two 6' 6", one 6'.
A 7' 10" heavy
Two six foot medium heavy rods.
Two of the three extreme combos were 99 bucks, the other 129.
The Nitros were 199 and 209, bought on sale from the regular 229. As an aside, the Nitros are either much easier to adjust or more forgiving when it comes to preventing backlashes.
Backlashes with either are very rare now. I'd like to think some of it is due to my improvement as well.
I've got a total of about $1400 invested in 9 combos.

Muddy, if you are in the 'low rent district', then I'm in the ghetto
Everything:
Daiwa Procaster 100H on a 6'6 Bionic Blade
Shimano Symetre 1500 on a 6' StC Premier
Flooger Trion GX7 on an older 6'6 Cherrywood graphite
Plus on Okuma stratus as a back up.
That's it, nothing here to see.
I will be saving for a new 2500 series Spinning Reel & 7' or longer rod for this year.
Wow is all I can say looking at some of the setups that some of you guys have on your lists.
I picked up most of my rods and reels at deep discounts off Ebay or Cabelas and spend alot of time in there bargain cave or at the store picking up there in store clearance items or in store discounts.
Getting the clearance and discount items allowed me to step my quipment in a hurry since I started fishing 3-4yrs ago.
My one brother is a Fenwick man and the other a G Loomis and myself I'm a Cabelas Rod fan.
My List:
Spinning:
Quantum Catalyst PTI 20 / Cabalas Mag Touch 6'6" M
Daiwa Regal 5ia / Cabelas Tourney Trail 7'0" M
Rainbow II / Cabelas XML 6'6" M
Shimano Sahara 1000 / Cabelas XML 6'6" ML
Quantum Catalyst PTI-B 20 / Cabelas XML 6'6" M Split Grip /Rig & Jig
Quantum Incyte 30 (Older Version) / No Name Graphite Rod 7'0" M
BPS Viper 3000 / Shakesphere 7'0" MH
Okuma Stinson / No Rod
Cabelas Fish Eagle II 7'0" MH / No Reel
BaitCast:
Cabelas Prodigy / Cabelas Fish Eagle II 6'6" M (Upgrading to Cabelas XMLti 6'6" MH)
Daiwa Megaforce Cabelas Golden Eagle 6'6" M
All the rods were on deep discount and picked up the Shimano Reel at full price but the Cabelas XML was normally $139 on discount for $100 and 50% off with the reel purchase.
Gonna have to try the New Prodigy Rods from Cabelas though so guess I need a new reel for that one also
Good to see I'm not the only one addicted
