FEATURES
| | | |
SHIMANO STABLE SPOOL DESIGN (S3D) Shimano's S3D technology leads to significantly reduced spool vibration. By designing a balanced and uniform thin wall aluminum constructed spool, S3D creates an incredibly smooth feeling when casting and retrieving lures. | SUPER FREE SPOOL SF was designed to eliminate friction on the spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and actually can drag on the spool shaft creating friction that can limit the length of a cast. With SF the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing so that when the clutch is disengaged in preparation for a cast, the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in perfect alignment. The result is zero friction upon the spool shaft. | HAGANE BODY The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength. | SVS INFINITY The SVS Infinity provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. With brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed for precision casting especially when using lighter lures. The external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits. |

Questions about SHIMANO SLX XT Series Casting Reel
Q:
Are these right hand or left hand? it doesn't say anywhere.
Answer: 150 series is right handed, 151 series is left handed.
Q:
What’s the difference between the regular slx and the slx xt? what’s the xt?
Answer: The XT has an additional bearing, and an upgraded braking system. Go to You Tube, and search Ladybass for her video where she compares all three SLX reels. I’m ordering two more of the XT reels today. Pay attention to the three different gear ratios they offer as well as left or right hand retrieve. Get at least one today.
Answer: The SLX XT has an additional bearing and Shimano SVS externally adjustable brake system compared to the standard SLX which is a fine reel itself without the additional features of the XT. The SLX has the Shimano VBS brake system which are adjusted by flipping the side cover up and setting the brake pins manually to suit the conditions and which works just fine.
Q:
New rrel for me. Has been awhile since i used a baitcaster. Can someone help explain each part of the reel to hone in my skills. Or a video or manual.
Answer: I would always pay attention to your spool tension knob make sure it is adjusted to your bait weaght but check out debos fishing on YouTube and he can get you rocking man
Q:
Photo shows the basic slx model, not the slx xt. i ordered the slx xt 151 xg from this listing and received the basic slx 151 xg model.
Answer: You should’ve been able to to tell by the price, if it’s $99 then it’s the slx, $129 then it the slx xt
Answer: I bought this for a gift for my son and don’t know the answer

Answer: I don’t believe it did , because when my son opened it on Christmas he said he would put some good line on it
Q:
Whats a good rod for fresh water bass?
Answer: Depends on your budget but you can’t go wrong with the shimano slx rod. 7’ mh is a good all purpose rod
Q:
Is the slx xt a larger body size than the slx? Looking for a physically larger frame than slx.
Answer: XT is a more compact size than the standard SLX. I own all three models. The standard SLX is the largest model. If you’re wanting bigger profile reels, probably should check out Diawa. Performance of shimano is unmatched though.
Answer: It is my assumption that all the SLX 150 series reels are the same size
Answer: No it is not bigger in frame the xt stands for external dial so you have a way to change the brakes without opening the reel hope this helps.
Answer: I don’t think it’s bigger.
Answer: The frame is the same look in to the tranx line from Shimano if looking for a bigger reel
Q:
What is the different between hg and xg model
Answer: Gear Ratio
Q:
whats the difference between the 150xg and the 151xg
Answer: 150 is right hand.. 151 is left hand.. you can always google shimano fishing. Find the reel your buying on amazon and make sure its the one you want..
Answer: The 151 is a left hand reel. The 150 is a right hand reel.
Answer: 150 is right hand reel and 151 is left hand.
Answer: The 150 is right handed and 151 is left
Answer: Shimano 150 series are right hand retrieve and 151 series are left hand retrieve.
Answer: 151 is left handed
Q:
What is the different between hg and xg
Answer: Hg is a 7.1:1 and xg is the 8.2:1 so the xg will pull more line in on each turn of the reel handle
Q:
is this left handed?
Answer: 150 series is right handed. 151 series is left handed.
Q:
is this slx xt xg reel still available???
Answer: Sure

Answer: Yes, and I have one left in stock. Its the model SLX XT 151XG.
Q:
I saw on a previous post that the spool capacity for 12 Lb fluorocarbon is 100 yards, what is the capacity for a fluorocarbon 15lb ?
Answer: It says on the box that 10-120 ,12-110,14-90 so i would estamate about 85 or a bit more hope thos helps
Q:
Anyone know where these are manufactured?
Answer: Manufactured in Malaysia
Answer: Malaysia but even my jdm slc dc is made there and I have had mine for over a year and it's still grate.
Q:
The description says high rigidity virtually elimates body flexIng. Does that mean it is more forgiving?
Answer: Forgiving no just a strong body reel that wont flex because its not plastic so the reel is much more sturdy.it feels not like plastic
Answer: It means when you have a fish on the reel is not going to flex
Answer: No. It means it’s higher quality and more sensitive to fish strikes. If you are concerned about backspooling it has good brake system to adjust appropriately.
Q:
What’s the difference between the slx xt and the regular slx?
Answer: XT has SVS Infinity, Shimano's centrifugal spool braking system you can adjust from a dial located on the side plate. It is not magnetic braking system which limits your casting distance. The regular SLX reel has Shimano's Variable Braking System that has to be adjusted by removing the spool from the reel. Both are superior to magnetic brakes in terms of castability. The XT's feature is more convenient to adjust.
Answer: XT has the external mag dial.
Q:
Is this a Salt water reel?
Answer: No , not positive but i think fresh water only. If you get on bass pro web site look up this reel it will tell for sure.
Answer: Any reel can be a saltwater reel, just make sure you wash it thoroughly after use in saltwater
Answer: No
Q:
Does the xt have BFS capabilities?
Answer: It is not called a BFS reel in the descriptions. However I use one for Ned rigs, 1/15 oz Ned head jig on 10lb Seagar Red Label with a 7’-1” Falcon Clear Coastal medium heavy rod.
Answer: Nope, you should be looking at the Adlebaran BFS XG or Scorpion BFS XG. You may be able to find an aftermarket BFS spool but I'm not familiar with one for the SLX. Hope this helps.
Answer: It does, but you’ll need to modify spool & bearings. Better to just buy a bfs ready reel.
Answer: I have had mine for a year and have found you cant go super light so lower than 3/8 it gets a bit hard so you wont through a trout magnet on it
Q:
What’s the difference between the hg & the xl
Answer: The xt has additional brakes and hg stands for the gear ratio 7:1
Answer: I don’t have any idea this was a gift for my son and he is very happy with it
Q:
Is this saltwater/inshore rated?
Answer: Yes just rinse it off each time
Q:
What type of rod can I use to catch bass?
Answer: Any really i use mine on a 7.2 med-hvy mod-fast 6th sense rod but any med-hvy will do just about everythng just cant through heavy swimbaits
Q:
Just ordered this reel. What is a good rod to pair his with ? Going to be using it it to fish inshore salter water for bass....
Answer: The only choice for you is a G Loomis GLX
Q:

Answer: No
Answer: no
Q:
Which model is left hand retrieve? Holding the rod in my right hand.
Answer: 151 is left hand
Q:
Whats the best gear ratio to get? The 6.3 or the 8.2?
Answer: Neither, get the one that's 7.2, i have two and they are perfect for most applications.
Q:
What rod can I use for both Flounder and Bass?
Answer: I used to fish for flounder as a kid off the Hudson River in New York. Now I mostly fish for bass on lakes though. I think a Medium heavy/Fast rod should do for both. I would go with a 7-4" or 7'-6". But that is a personal preference. The longer the rod, the farther you will cast. The shorter the rod, the more accurate your cast will be.
Answer: This works for bass. I’ve never caught a flounder.

Peter R. : Typical shimano quality on a "budget"
From the low pros I've seen and used hard to beat for the price, I use it for smallmouth on my local rivers (central pa) mostly shallow and rocky so the retrieval speed has been superb from getting snagged on rocks. Highly recommended
Caiden : Mostly impact resistant!!!
I got this and it is really good but when it said impact resistant that isn’t 100% accurate. My reel is only like 2 weeks old and it was leaning against my camper and it fell and put 2 scrapes on it. They arent that big so I am surprised and I wouldn’t expect it to be 100% impact resistant. 4.5/5 awesome reel

Amazon Customer : Shimano XT
Shimano great quality.
Big Moe : What a smooth Reel!
Compared this reel to some of the Shimano's high end reels that I own and For the price I think it's an excellent reel to have. The Braking system is much better compared to the older SLX and the casting is super smooth. I paired it up with a St. Croix Mojo Bass and iit's a pair made in Heaven!! I Highly Recommended this Reel.
parrotnut : Extremely Happy Fishing Woman!
Paired with matching Shimano rod. Couldn't be happier! Excellent spool adjustment for weight of lure. Backlash is virtually non existent with proper setting. Makes retrieve and flip cast extremely easy! Excellent response for the money!
Brent E. : Great
Great baitcaster for someone who gets birds nest a lot. This reel makes casting easy
Biged60 : Awesome caster
Great reel I couldn’t ask for anything better it’s smooth & dependable
Amazon Customer : Smooth
Very smooth and light
Amazon Customer : Super Smooth Reel
The reel is so smooth but the only thing I would re consider with this reel is the line capacity. The reel itself is great the failure to see the line capacity is my fault.

Very smooth and light
Ole Miss Rebel : Great value
The SLX XLT is a smooth, long casting reel. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and love it. For the money it’s the best reel I have and that includes a Diawa, Lee’s, Abu, and Kast King. I’m Not knocking the others but for the price point the shimano slx XLT is fantastic.
