Answer: I have the 6000 and i have it spooled with 80 lb braid and it can fit almost all of the 150 yard spool

What is a good rod that you would recommend?

Answer: So far I’ve been using a 12 feet and a 10 feet Lamiglas surf fishing rods with a 3-4 ounces weights for fishing. In fact I have bought three of them for surf fishing ????

Answer: Its a beefy reel so you definitely want something sturdy enough to handle the big game fish. Your budget is the limit but the ocean is your oyster ???? I have mine attached to a big salt water trophy pole and love it.

Answer: Honestly, I wouldn't chance it. I own the 5000 series and it's only rated at 22lbs. I caught a 30lb carp and it was quite a task. Gar can reach 200+ lbs so I would use something a little more heavy duty. Something made for salt water.

Answer: Yes I can. If a 1,000 or more lbs. white shark can be handled by a 60 lbs. line using a 4000 series, how much more for 7000 series. Just have a contemplative mind for it time to land a big fish provided your rig has the right wire leader and the right hook.

Answer: It is not loud at all. I use bait alarms if I am not close to my poles.

Mine came with two spools, the installed shinny one and a spare flat black one (smaller). What is the difference between the two?

Answer: One is simply a backup spool.

Answer: Some manufacturers are offering a long distance spool with greater line capacity and a shorter distance spool with less capacity. The spool with less capacity could also be used for braided line. One is often made out of aluminum and the other is composite. I do not know for sure, but that would be my best advice.

Answer: One holds more line. How much line do you need? If you're not deep sea fishing, you probably don't need the one that holds more line.

Which one of these would be best for a 7ft rod?

Answer: How big of a fish are you going after? 7ft is a small rod probably with a light action tip unless you have an ugly stick. You want a smaller size for your small rod. I have the next to the biggest you can get attached to a salt water trophy pole. This reel is incredibly smooth and strong. Definitely a great deal for the price. Answer: All the lines I am using I look into the poundage of the line not the diameter the test pounds are bigger to see than the diameter even though all line have the diameter and the poundage.

Bought a pair of these as inexpensive "journeyman" type reels, for freshwater carp fishing. So far they have performed well in that capacity.

Points of note:

-- I use these only for freshwater carp and catfish fishing
-- I have been using these for only 3 months so am waiting to see how they might perform over longer timespans (might post an update.)
-- I do not use the rear drag mechanism (only the front) so cannot comment on its performance or robustness.

Pros: the exterior seems solidly constructed (haven't yet pulled them apart to examine/service the inner workings); spool comfortably takes 300yds of .23mm braided line; baitrunner mechanism works well; good price to use as a utility reel to save the life of more expensive reels

Cons: the spool skirt needs to extend a little lower as tangles beneath the spool can occur with slack line at the reel, particularly with monofilament (we all love untangling 20 yds of line wrapped round the spool axle at the bank, so the makers added that feature gratis); an option to buy with a spare spool would be useful; drag click is a little quieter than some reels, but this isn't a major issue for me as mostly I use electronic alarms

So far I have landed carp and catfish up to 15lb and the reels performed well.

I bought this reel a few years ago after my brother bought some Penn live liner reels, I always love to find a cheaper product that is just as good if not better than what he buy's and this reel lived up to my hopes. The reel felt great out of the box and was very smooth. We took our reels out in the bays around Aransas pass and this reel paid for itself in no time, I cleaned up with over 10 large gafftop cats and a 3 ft bonnethead shark over the first few hours of using the bait feeding system.I haven't had much free time to get out on the water recently, but it still functions like the day I got it and I HIGHLY recommend this reel.

I bought this reel to review. I used it this weekend on pier fishing for mackerel, the fishing was good. Until when you need every equipment to be reliable when the "mack attack" comes! This reel failed! during the initial burst of mack attack! The spool had an extra piece underneath the spool that is connected to nothing this caused my line to keep on getting inside the spool gear snagging my line causing a delay on getting back and cast the line again during the mack attack. The line snag inside the gear kept on going until I am tired of fixing it and just get another rod and reel. This reel is NOT RECOMMENDED - Seller please do not offer to provide a replacement just to get five star rating as it will go to a garbage. Thanks

I have purchased two of these beast 6000's for catfishing. I spooled them with 50lb braid. I left them out in the Indiana weather all year as a torture test. These reels really stand up to the weather. I have had zero issues with either one of them. I have no issues reeling in 20lb catfish all day long. I haven't caught anything over 20 yet so I can't speak for over 20lbs. My ONLY complaint is that the baitrunner(clicker) is very quiet. If you plan on using the runners while sitting more than 5 feet away, this is not the reel for you unless you have some kind of bite alarm system. Overall, I give this 5 stars. Very comfortable to use as well.

I have caught multiple 10 plus pound carp and a 15 pounder with this reel. The reel feels VER smooth, and holds a good amount of line. I have 20lb mono on it. The dual drag system works great, when carp take the corn the spoil starts running and I can pick it up and just sy at t reeling and the front drag will engage automatically. Definitely a strong reel and had no trouble getting these fish in. For the price, this is deserving of 5 stars.

I was planning on using this reel for Carp fishing. I have other bait runner reels but I wanted an extra one without spending big dollars. At first glance it appears like a solid reel. Unfortunately when testing the bait-runner lever, it would not return to the main line spool drag. It was just making a clicking sound. You could manually do it but that’s not how it is supposed to work. A defective one I guess.
