Answer: I have the 6000 and i have it spooled with 80 lb braid and it can fit almost all of the 150 yard spool

Answer: Its a beefy reel so you definitely want something sturdy enough to handle the big game fish. Your budget is the limit but the ocean is your oyster ???? I have mine attached to a big salt water trophy pole and love it.

Answer: Honestly, I wouldn't chance it. I own the 5000 series and it's only rated at 22lbs. I caught a 30lb carp and it was quite a task. Gar can reach 200+ lbs so I would use something a little more heavy duty. Something made for salt water.

Answer: One is simply a backup spool.
Answer: Some manufacturers are offering a long distance spool with greater line capacity and a shorter distance spool with less capacity. The spool with less capacity could also be used for braided line. One is often made out of aluminum and the other is composite. I do not know for sure, but that would be my best advice.
Answer: One holds more line. How much line do you need? If you're not deep sea fishing, you probably don't need the one that holds more line.

Answer: How big of a fish are you going after? 7ft is a small rod probably with a light action tip unless you have an ugly stick. You want a smaller size for your small rod. I have the next to the biggest you can get attached to a salt water trophy pole. This reel is incredibly smooth and strong. Definitely a great deal for the price. I had to do a slight modification to the reel, one washer was missing so i stole it from the spare spool. After i did that the drag started working( there was literally none before i did that. I have caught several mackerel and a striped bass whith the reel so far and i am happy now.

I was planning on using this reel for Carp fishing. I have other bait runner reels but I wanted an extra one without spending big dollars. At first glance it appears like a solid reel. Unfortunately when testing the bait-runner lever, it would not return to the main line spool drag. It was just making a clicking sound. You could manually do it but that’s not how it is supposed to work. A defective one I guess.

-- I do not use the rear drag mechanism (only the front) so cannot comment on its performance or robustness.
Pros: the exterior seems solidly constructed (haven't yet pulled them apart to examine/service the inner workings); spool comfortably takes 300yds of .23mm braided line; baitrunner mechanism works well; good price to use as a utility reel to save the life of more expensive reels
Cons: the spool skirt needs to extend a little lower as tangles beneath the spool can occur with slack line at the reel, particularly with monofilament (we all love untangling 20 yds of line wrapped round the spool axle at the bank, so the makers added that feature gratis); an option to buy with a spare spool would be useful; drag click is a little quieter than some reels, but this isn't a major issue for me as mostly I use electronic alarms
So far I have landed carp and catfish up to 15lb and the reels performed well.

Overall, this is my second one. I'm DONE with this reel. Handle has broken twice now. Even when tight there is too much play and after months of minimal use they will break. Reel operates smoothly and if the handle design is fixed I'd continue to purchase. A smooth reel does no good when there is no handle to reel with. China step up your game.

I do a lot of striper fishing in the Northeast. My personal go-to setup is a Cabo 3000 and a St. Croix 7 ft surf rod. But I also take a lot of friends and family fishing and they can be rough on gear and so I keep a couple of "guest rods" on the boat that I'm not too worried about. Those have been Ugly Stick tiger 2 pieces (to store below) with Okuma avenger 5000 bait runners (we do a lot of live bait fishing). That setup has gone through hell and back but one of my Okumas died after 10 years. So I thought I'd take a shot at some of these less expensive reels (since a lot of the brand name reels are white-labeled versions of exports from China). The thing looked great when I got it and both drags worked really well for a few trips. But it's always the details - and the handle snapped while bringing in a schoolie striper on trip #3 I've ordered a replacement handle off Amazon, but I have very little faith in replacement handles based on past experience. Even if it works, Im into the reel for about $42, and could have gone back to an Avenger for about 55. Worth the shot I suppose, just disappointed because I'd heard decent things about Sougayilang and the body of the reel itself seemed quite well built.

My rear drag system doesn't work. The button do not stay in place and when I reel in from a cast I hear a clicking sound so it's definitely an internal thing I'm guessing. I notice this because friend brought the same reel and the rear drag button locks in place and there no clicking sound coming from inside the reel.
