Other "top" brands I have used can't even handle a quick dunk in saltwater.

Answer: I’ve used this reel for so many different fishing applications. Now, I’m not sure what type of trout you’re fishing….might be a bit big for Brook Trout. On the other hand I’m sure it would be a very good reel for Steelhead (Rainbow) trout. I’ve primarily fish for Walleye but have used similar reels for trout, perch, and panfish.

Answer: The CS5-1000 is ideal. I use mine on a 6' UL rod with 4 lb. test mono to throw 1/16 to 1/8 oz. spinners and plugs for trout. It's also my go-to panfish outfit.

As long as you take care of your reels ..... they’ll last a long time!!

This is my first Medium reel and I was worried it would be too large for me to manage with small hands. It works just fine! I’ve landed everything from perch to largemouth bass with this reel and rod from Cadence.
Balance is great and the reel is a delight to use. The handle seat and retrieve is a bit different but you get used to it pretty quick.
Customer service is top notch too! After I bent the handle of the reel after slipping hard in the mud (reel broke my fall!) Cadence sent me a new handle, side cap and car decals!

I got this reel at tax time I got the 3000, honestly a great reel, my dust cap fell off while fishing not only did cadence contact me and send me a new one their dime! They made sure they took care of me as a customer, they really are wantong to take value and pride in their work and product, I've been a fan of cadence for years now and honestly if you're looking for a great spinning reel this is where you will find them ( personal opinion) strong drag system, light weight, great for Ned rigs and I even use mine for cat fishing as well, just pan size channel cat's, I would really recommend giving these reals a try.

Purchased a cadence 3000 for canal fishing and a kast king megatron 6000 for surf at the same time. Upon arrival the cadence (1st cadence) has a bit of a rubbing sound when reeling whereas the megatron (2nd, have a 5000) is super smooth (like the 5000). A little bit disappointed.

First off this reel works great. I have used a lot of other brands that are high end and this feels like there is no difference. I have braided line on it and I got almost 300 yards on it. Got some decent fish on the reel and had no problems at all.

Probably used the reel 10 times over the last year. Accidentally dipped the reel in the water. Rinsed it off as soon as I got home. By the next day the reel was completely locked up. Opened it up and all the interior pieces were completely rusted. Would not recommend investing in one of these.

I have a few cadence rods that I’m fond of and this reel certainly stays on target with them. Spooled it with 6ln floro and used it for Texas rigging trick worms. Bought my new Cadence CS5-3000 spinning reel, wound it with 6 lb mono filament line, put it on my Cadence CC6 rod and went out trout fishing this weekend. Right from the start, taking it out of the box it looked and felt very solid and well made. I like that it is very light and the way it feels on the pole. One of the first things I noticed is how smooth it is. It feels like the line is being retrieved effortlessly. So far this reel has done what I expected it to do. Weight is awesome and the drag really locks up when you need it too. It reels extremely smooth and it feels very durable. Only had it for a short time but I fish a lot. I cannot comment on long term durability of course but I will after 6 months to a year. I have 2 CC5 reels and a light action baitcasting rod that I use for casting finesse type lures. I LOVE that rod. I am impressed very much by Cadence.

Bought this to replace a broken reel on a old rod. I liked it so much I purchased their cc5 spinning combo. Once I had that in my hands I couldn’t stop. I have also purchased th cc4 and cc6 spinning combos. Then I said “ let’s try my hand at a bait caster. Never used one but what the hell right. So I got the bc6 in med/heavy 7’ and a bc6 reel in 7.2.1. Then I got the same set up in med 6’6, And then in Heavy 7’ for my fogging rod. All are Absolutely a amazing product. And any company that gives back to the kids is one I want to support. I HIGHLY recommend!!!

First of all I have many many reels, Penn, Diawa, Shamano, bait casters, spinning and conventional.
This one is one of my favorites. Smooth action, and the bail flips as smooth or smoother than reels 3x as much. It also opens wider which seems to cure the bail flipping over in a wild cast into the wind. The Drag is amazing, with each click it tightens the noose. It's incredibly smooth as the line pays out. The handle is very confortable. This reel should cost twice as much, but it does not have that reputation yet. I am happy I read the great reviews and took a chance on this great product ! Definitely a great buy !

This Cadence cs5 spinning reel is amazing. Its exactly what my family and I wanted and needed. Living in Louisiana my family and I go fishing every other day. So I need sturdy long lasting equipment. This Cadence reel is made of very high quality material with its Magnesium frame. Which makes it sturdier than all of the other reels my husband and I own for the same price. The 9 ball bearings makes this reel so smooth to reel in and so much easier for big fish. I love the fact that it has a bigger oversized handle to help with the big catch. It sits in my hands so comfortably and fits like a glove. It helps not have any slippage when casting or catching. And I would buy from this company over and over with their warranty and their amazing products. I have bought the rod to go with the reel and now I have the best pole when we go fishing. If you want a sturdy combo I highly recommend this company for any of their products. Overall great buy and I will keep purchasing any of my fishing needs from Cadence.

Wanted a lighter setup for inshore fishing so I pulled the trigger on the CS5 3000 series. Put in on a 6’6” medium heavy and went to work. This thing pulled in 30 big reds and never flinched. Had to really horse them out due to dolphins stealing our fish. Was surprised by the power and light weight. Won’t hesitate to buy another.

This is an excellent fishing reel. Can’t speak to saltwater use but it is fantastic for freshwater. Great bail, quite smooth for the price point (will not compete with smoothness of $200-plus reels but is plenty smooth for any reasonable fishing). Very nice, comfortable somewhat larger handle I now have two of these for light tackle use. Perfect for that. I have had one of them for about a year—the other I got about four months ago—and have had no issues with it at all, so durability remains to me seen but early indications are very positive.

I have other reels from this company. They are really nice. This one seems to be the exception. The handle/bail will not turn without being forced. Something is binding inside and I could not figure out how to improve the performance of this reel. Had to return and replace with another. Hope the next one is normal. Good products from a good company is the norm.

The CS5 is good looking, operates smoothly, has a nicely adjustable drag, and feels quite solid. Another nice feature common to Cadence reels is the way the handle screws on, it won't come loose like cheap reel handles do. The grip is comfortable and everything suits me just fine. I have no hesitation about recommending this reel to others.

Light, strong, and smooth keep you fishing all day without the tire arm. CS5 4000 held up well to hauling up striped bass all day Sunday. Look, feel and function are good as my 2018 Exsence 4000 reel but 1/6 the price. CS5 was a joy pulling in those stripers.

Bought this to replace a broken reel on a old rod. I liked it so much I purchased their cc5 spinning combo. Once I had that in my hands I couldn’t stop. I have also purchased th cc4 and cc6 spinning combos. Then I said “ let’s try my hand at a bait caster. Never used one but what the hell right. So I got the bc6 in med/heavy 7’ and a bc6 reel in 7.2.1. Then I got the same set up in med 6’6, And then in Heavy 7’ for my fogging rod. All are Absolutely a amazing product. And any company that gives back to the kids is one I want to support. I HIGHLY recommend!!!

For $50, you can’t find anything better. It should be priced $80-100. I would say that it is as smooth as my Penn Battle II. I like the all black look and the spool design is looks great. This reel isn’t for the salt water. It does the job after fishing every weekend so far. I don’t need to worry about my reel and enjoy fishing unlike my $200+ reels.

I purchased the CS5 after I had purchased the CS3. I liked the CS3 very much, I needed a bigger real for saltwater. I purchased the CS5 and it has been a great reel. Light weight, has a larger spool and casts farther. I still use the CS3 and love both. I use them about 3 times a week and they both have held up to the salt water very well so far. Good reels for the price.

Gene Donovan : Good, cheap, get's the job done!
Out of all my fishing reel combos, this reel is about the lightest. I do have smoother operating reels, but they are heavier. I matched this reel up with a $9.00 Berkeley Lightning Rod from good 'ol Wal-Mart (on-sale). I also use 15lb Power Pro braid with this combo. I've been able to catch some pretty nice Peacock and Largemouth Bass using this setup. Overall, a good reel for the money.

After going back and reading some other reviews, and visiting the Cadence website, I decided to contact their customer service over the issue I experienced. Cadence offers a year warranty on the products that they sell. Within a week I received a replacement, and I could not be more happier with the reel! All I can say is that I believe that Cadence stands behind what they sell. I would rather get this type of service from a smaller company, than to be left disappointed with some of the other larger fishing outfitters out there. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find better service and quality!

Amazon Customer : Great reel for a beginner (or a pro)!
I havent been fishing since I was a young boy so i effectively have zero fishing experience or knowledge. Recently my wife and I decided to take up fishing so i hit the YouTube and the fishing forums and found out about Cadence. This reel, in my novice opinion, is amazing. I paired it with a Cadence 6'6" medium rod and I started with about 30' braided line and then tied off another maybe 150' fluorocarbon line. This reel casts so smooth. You can cast for miles with just a flick of the wrist and the reel action is amazing. We took to the lake and with some rooster tail spinners I caught a few 2-3lb catfish with ease. Are there much better reels out there? I'm sure pros might definitely say yes but this reel will do anything you need it to do. Im extremely happy with the purchase.
david : Smooth, Light but Not quiet.
Bought this last year but have not fished with it yet. I was just pairing it with a pole and testing the reel. When I turn the handle and spin the reel it is quite smooth but it is very noisy which seems to be a contradiction. I wondering if this is just a small design flaw but the reel will still be smooth and work well over time or If I got a lemon and I can't return because I waited way too long to test it out. MY ADVICE test the reel out as soon as you receive it so if there is noise and you don't like the noise you can return it. ( Also - You can order spares spools from the factory for $ 15)

First off this reel works great. I have used a lot of other brands that are high end and this feels like there is no difference. I have braided line on it and I got almost 300 yards on it. Got some decent fish on the reel and had no problems at all.

I've been fishing with this Cadence CS5 Pro 2000 series reel for 2 years and have reeled in all kinds of fish. It's a good solid reel at a very attractive price. I believe its carbon drag system is its most impressive feature. I've caught some very large carp and pike thanks to a drag that releases smoothly. The 2000 size provides a balanced fit on both my medium and medium light rods.
Jedaco : Appears to be a quality reel but...
I had to return the reel to Amazon because it had a chip/gouge in the spool. I did contact Cadence with the expectation they would simply exchange the spool but after sending photo's of defect, they just told me to return the entire reel back to Amazon. Not exactly the customer service I expected or was reading about from others - if they just sent me a new spool, I would still have that reel and Cadence would still have a customer.
M. Umlauf : Good Value, Performed Well
I have used this over the last few months including a week of fishing in upstate MN. It is a great reel for the money. I use with 6 lb mono to jig for panfish and throw small plastics for bass. I paired it with the cadence 7 ft medium light one piece rod. I had several rod and real setups but I have enjoyed this one the best over the last few months. It is so much fun to catch crappie and bass on this rod and reel setup! For the money, it's really a great value.

I bought this reel under the assumption of a 36lb max drag, as the ad states at the top. When I received the product, it only had a max drag of 20lbs. Clearly a huge difference. Upon closer exam of the ad, even the chart only goes up to 20lbs max drag, not the 36lbs as labeled in the description. Returning this product and purchased a real one with a better max drag.

So far, so good. Used for fall panfish and trout on an UL 6' rod. The drag is smooth as silk, but not as widely adjustable as the more pricey reels. Bail trip is a little stiff, but not a deal breaker. We'll see if it lasts a few seasons. I'll update my review, but for now, it's a great value.
Alex Black : Poor quality
Probably used the reel 10 times over the last year. Accidentally dipped the reel in the water. Rinsed it off as soon as I got home. By the next day the reel was completely locked up. Opened it up and all the interior pieces were completely rusted. Would not recommend investing in one of these.

Amazing Ultra light reel, pair with a CR-5. feel great. out fishing for few weeks, caught few large white bass 1-2 lbs. only issue having is during the retrieval, can feel from the handle the rotation seem wobble at one point. retried with just reeling in the line, smooth but wobble or scraping at that same point during the rotation. checking to get a replacement or upgrade since its 90 days satisfaction guaranty. still a great reel for the money, a random defect is part of life.
regardless, love the product so ordered another CS5-4000 and a CS7-4000.
update 8/19: emailed Cadence on the minor issue with the first CS5-4000.

Really like this reel, even the second time around. Have a 1000 size already and figure I get something bigger. The 3000 size reel is a lot more compact than the normal 3000 size reel.

Loved the reel initially; now the braid gets buried in the spool and sticks when casting. Never had this happen to any of my other 11 reels since using braid the past 9 years. I spoil the line myself, under tension, and have tried 2 different braids with the same result.
