Other "top" brands I have used can't even handle a quick dunk in saltwater.

Answer: I’ve used this reel for so many different fishing applications. Now, I’m not sure what type of trout you’re fishing….might be a bit big for Brook Trout. On the other hand I’m sure it would be a very good reel for Steelhead (Rainbow) trout. I’ve primarily fish for Walleye but have used similar reels for trout, perch, and panfish.

Answer: The CS5-1000 is ideal. I use mine on a 6' UL rod with 4 lb. test mono to throw 1/16 to 1/8 oz. spinners and plugs for trout. It's also my go-to panfish outfit.

As long as you take care of your reels ..... they’ll last a long time!!

Out of all my fishing reel combos, this reel is about the lightest. I do have smoother operating reels, but they are heavier. I matched this reel up with a $9.00 Berkeley Lightning Rod from good 'ol Wal-Mart (on-sale). I also use 15lb Power Pro braid with this combo. I've been able to catch some pretty nice Peacock and Largemouth Bass using this setup. Overall, a good reel for the money.

I had some issues with the reel, specifically the drag. I stopped using it because my line snapped on me 3 times going after some big largemouth. After going back and reading some other reviews, and visiting the Cadence website, I decided to contact their customer service over the issue I experienced. Cadence offers a year warranty on the products that they sell. Within a week I received a replacement, and I could not be more happier with the reel! All I can say is that I believe that Cadence stands behind what they sell. I would rather get this type of service from a smaller company, than to be left disappointed with some of the other larger fishing outfitters out there. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find better service and quality!

Loved the reel initially; now the braid gets buried in the spool and sticks when casting. Never had this happen to any of my other 11 reels since using braid the past 9 years. I spoil the line myself, under tension, and have tried 2 different braids with the same result.
GeekFrog : Heavy, Large, and plastic
This reel is significantly heavier than comparable reels from other manufacturers. Both my Okuma Ceymar and Pfleuger President are lighter and physically smaller than this reel. The Ceymar and President also appear to have less plastic and feel smoother. It is a functional reel and will work, but you can get a Ceymar C10 for $34 or a President for $50 and they are both better reels than this.

I did contact Cadence with the expectation they would simply exchange the spool but after sending photo's of defect, they just told me to return the entire reel back to Amazon. Not exactly the customer service I expected or was reading about from others - if they just sent me a new spool, I would still have that reel and Cadence would still have a customer.

There's definitely better reels on the market for the money and price wise. I've used alot of reels. The construction feels cheap and the handle is mediocre at best. The reel foot doesn't feel solid. I will definitely not be purchasing another spinning reel or casting reel. I own a casting reel by them and was an awful mistake of a reel. My advice is stick to the well known brands. I'm really glad that I have plenty of other spinning reels that are built stronger and significantly more reliable. As for the spinning reel, it's not worth a penny.

Just got this reel and it is amazing can't believe how well made this reel is for the price of it. I love especially the drag on this real easy to use for those with big hands/fingers. Took it out last weekend for crappie fishing hook onto didn't know at the time to a monster 30 to 40 plus lbs. grass carp thought for sure my 6lbs. mono-line will break. Playing around with the drag and fighting the fish I was able to get it on land in under 10 minutes before my line break. Customer service is even better I wanted to order an extra spool for lining up to fish for bigger fish on Amazon it say the delivery date is between 21 OCT to 02 NOV so I email customer service to ask. I got an email respond the next morning saying that the date on Amazon is not correct when they received the order they ship out right away and should be receiving my product within 4 to 5 days. Mr. Murphy the customer that I was communicating with even told me to order it on Amazon and he will look out for my order to get it process right away. There's even more of that I find out from Cadence portion of the money that I spent buying their product is going to help put a combos rod/reel into the hands of the next generation through on of their charity partners. It was an easy decision to buy the Cadence reel for me cause the product is well made and for the price and even better was their customer services. Mr. Murphy I place an order for the extra CS5 spool last night as promise and thank you again for your quick respond and assistance.

First off this reel works great. I have used a lot of other brands that are high end and this feels like there is no difference. I have braided line on it and I got almost 300 yards on it. Got some decent fish on the reel and had no problems at all.

It also opens wider which seems to cure the bail flipping over in a wild cast into the wind. The Drag is amazing, with each click it tightens the noose. It's incredibly smooth as the line pays out. The CS-5 spinning reel is an extremely good buy. It easily performs as well as reels costing two to three times as much. This is my 5th reel from Cadence Fishing. I have 3 other spinning reels and a baitcaster. This is my first CS-5 in the 2000 size. I have to say this reel is superb! I received yesterday and unboxed it. See the include photo for a size shot. I spooled up the reel with 10 pound braid and a 6 foot, 8 pound fluorocarbon leader. I put it on a Cadence 20 Ton rod, put on a weightless wacky rigged Senko and walked over to our neighborhood pond. 5 minutes later I hooked a small 1 lb 2 oz LMB. Boy does this reel perform! The drag was flawless. Fighting and playing the fish was so fun! Catching bass on light tackle like this is the best. I caught 2 other bass, one was 2.5 lbs and had no problems bringing him in. The reel cranks smooth as butter. And, like my other Cadence reels it will cast a mile. I have many other reels from Shimano, Daiwa, and KastKing. I have to say for the price to performance ratio, Cadence beats all of them. The bail is solid and crisp when you open or close it. The anti-reverse is rock solid with no play at all. The eva foam handle is very comfortable on the fingers and the reel is super light. It only weighs 8.3 oz. Come this fall, this will be the perfect trout reel. Best of all this reel was only $52.98 and had a 30% off coupon making it only $37.09!

I have a few cadence rods that I’m fond of and this reel certainly stays on target with them. Spooled it with 6ln floro and used it for Texas rigging trick worms. Took on some nice largemouth and pickerel and performed well. Worth every penny

I was a Picifun fan due to their customer service but saw this and bought it instead. I am so happy I did. It works smother and is designed better than my other two picifun reels. Defiantly would buy again. Caught a bunch of fish with it on a Ugly Stick Rod.

I havent been fishing since I was a young boy so i effectively have zero fishing experience or knowledge. Recently my wife and I decided to take up fishing so i hit the YouTube and the fishing forums and found out about Cadence. This reel, in my novice opinion, is amazing. I paired it with a Cadence 6'6" medium rod and I started with about 30' braided line and then tied off another maybe 150' fluorocarbon line. This reel casts so smooth. You can cast for miles with just a flick of the wrist and the reel action is amazing. We took to the lake and with some rooster tail spinners I caught a few 2-3lb catfish with ease. Are there much better reels out there? I'm sure pros might definitely say yes but this reel will do anything you need it to do. Im extremely happy with the purchase.

Loved the reel initially; now the braid gets buried in the spool and sticks when casting. Never had this happen to any of my other 11 reels since using braid the past 9 years. I spoil the line myself, under tension, and have tried 2 different braids with the same result.

I havent tested it out yet, but out of the box it seems amazing on its own, but then when you take the price into it, it just seems too good to be true. Truth be told Im a little worried about bringing only this fishing the first time. I just feel like something has to be wrong with it for it to seem this great and be so cheap. I bought 300 yards of 6lb braided line and while I was spooling it, I wasnt paying attention and used up the entire 300 yards, and it seemed to only be half full of line, so it can take a lot of line. When I test it out, I will check back and update my review

Bought this last year but have not fished with it yet. I was just pairing it with a pole and testing the reel. When I turn the handle and spin the reel it is quite smooth but it is very noisy which seems to be a contradiction. I wondering if this is just a small design flaw but the reel will still be smooth and work well over time or If I got a lemon and I can't return because I waited way too long to test it out. MY ADVICE test the reel out as soon as you receive it so if there is noise and you don't like the noise you can return it. ( Also - You can order spares spools from the factory for $ 15)

This reel is top of the line for only paying $50. The lightweight carbon fiber system allowed me to fish all day with comfort and ease pulling in those giant bass. Awesome quality for the price and the performance was top notch! Would recommend to anyone out there looking to improve their fishing performance or just getting started! Purchased a cadence 3000 for canal fishing and a kast king megatron 6000 for surf at the same time. Upon arrival the cadence (1st cadence) has a bit of a rubbing sound when reeling whereas the megatron (2nd, have a 5000) is super smooth (like the 5000). A little bit disappointed.

Quality reel for what I use a reel for the most, deep 40' ft + jigging in a 8 knot current for walleye. I paid $30 less for this reel than other "quality" reels, filled with braid it is a great combination! I get positive hooksets with this reel, the attention to quality is shown throughout this reel.

Got this baby yesterday. First trip this morning was to Bass Pro to get it lined up with some 20lb braided line and then straight to the lake! I all ready had the 2000 series and wanted the 3000 for some froggin' over and through the lily pads and grass. It worked perfectly. Nice smooth long cast and no problems pulling my lures through the weeds. The 20lb drag really helps with this and it only weighs .2oz more than my CS5 2000 series! I have reels that cost me more than twice as much and are nowhere near as effortless as this one.

I went out on a limb when purchasing an off brand like this, and ended up expectedly dissapointed. I did receive the order sooner then expected and was excited to get it unboxed. I did a good but of research on this reel as I'm not much of a saltwater fisherman and only purchased this reel for an upcoming trip to the Maine coast. Upon arrival it came packed nice and secure. I tightened down the handle and started to look it over, testing all its functions out. Immediately when i started reeling I felt it seemed a bit resistant, ok I thought maybe needs a drop or two of oil nbd.
Flipped the bail, good there, started really looking it over and part of the rear housing wasnt there? I dont mean broken off, I mean casting was done incorrectly. To the tune of almost a quarter inche rough gap or section just missing at the back plate under the spin housing. While I realize this was a very inexpensive reel I expected more then that. Immediately filed a return order and am shipping this junk back. If your quality control cant catch a large chunk missing from the rear plate, your not a company I want to to deal with. Lesson learned, stick with my Shimano's, Diawa's, Abu's and Penn's. Save your money and forget the fake reviews. Buy something you can trust.

This reel is smooth as melted butter! I have a lot of reels and I am really hard on them - I like to wade in surf, bays and fresh water. This normally kills reels pretty fast, even after rinsing them. I have not taken this saltwater fishing yet, but it has stainless steel, corrosion resistant bearings from what I understand, so it may survive - time will tell. The first day using this reel, I fell down a hill and slammed the reel on the ground and the handle broke off at the grip. I felt it was definitely my fault, and I was willing to buy a handle. I emailed Cadence and once I confirmed my Amazon order, they sent a new handle out free so fast I had it for the next weekend's fishing trip. Great customer service! I'll be buying more.

I was very impressed with the spinning reel out of the box. The reel is study and light weight. After a couple of trips with the reel, I'm glad I bought this reel as it casts smooth and is quite. The drag works very well also. However, the bail is hard to flip open, but I expect it will loosen up after more use. For the price point, it beats anything else I've used or tested in a box store. The one drawback was the reel wanted to wobble left/right when I tried to reel in fast. Tight lines!
