Answer: If you are looking for a KastKing reel about the same size as an Ambassadur 5500, then I would suggest a KastKing 40. I have the 40R and it works just as well as the 5500. I have mine spoiled with big game 30lb mono and have been vertical jigging big red drum and cobia 30 to 80lbs up from 20ft to 55ft of water. The R-60 works great for this and I don’t see any problem boating fish up to 100+lbs even tho the fish will strip some line off making runs but it has a good drag and holds plenty of 30lb test.

Answer: I think that depends more on the line than anything. I can do that with braid and have with some mono but if your line is memory prone and is spooled on loosely you may run into a problem but that the case with any bait cast.

Answer: In my opinion, there is no minimum line size, it's how you have your spool tension set up, if it's back lashing in the reel you may need to add more tension to the spool. I've used 8 lb. line on reels before just make sure your reel is set up correctly.
Answer: line does not matter much, add some weight, adjust the resistance on the other side of the handle, it should barely move on that weight. Then when you throw it you need to put your thumb right before that weight hits water, otherwise the spools inertia will cause it to spin more to give a spaghetti.... practice needed... but two logical points above are the key!
Answer: Any baitcaster will backlash without spool control when casting. Practice and learn to control the spool with your thumb.

No. It's a great reel for the price. But, Penn reels are of a higher quality. Don't get me wrong, they are decent, and they should treat a person good. If your looking at a Penn rod, then chances are you are fishing Saltwater, Brackkish water at the very least. It might be worth it to rinse off the Saltwater with fresh after each use.
Answer: It should be your preference, whatever rod you choose, it's great for casting for distance or in close, personally I use an 11' daiwa sealine casting rod for my rxa60's, hope this helps...

Did not reel the line in evenly but that is not a huge deal. Otherwise the reel looked and worked nicely. However, the drag was incredibly weak no matter how tightly I tried to adjust it. I would say it maxed out at about 3-4 lbs, which is not much when the reel calls for 40-50 lb line. I usually like to run my drag at about 25% of my line test, which would require it to hold about 10 lbs. It would not pick up a 5 lbs bag of sugar.

This reel spins so smoothly and casts really comfortably. I got a 90 initially for my rod (a medium heavy dipsy diver I'm using as a bay/surf rod) which ended up being too big for me to cast surf lures, so I got a 60, which is pelnty big enough for me. It's good for a medium sized rod. Hoping to get to use this soon.

This seems to be a solid value from my point of view. I have seen tear down videos that compare the internal parts to reels that cost much more and the quality is right in line.
It spooled well and casting is spot on. Now I just need to convince a catfish my bait is just what's it's looking for and put this thing to the test. Heading back out tonight so maybe an update soon.

My sons home from the Marines and he want's to go fishing so, I bought two more and didn't even consider other brands after seeing the build quality of the first one I bought.
It spooled well and casting is spot on. Now I just need to convince a catfish my bait is just what's it's looking for and put this thing to the test. Heading back out tonight so maybe an update soon.

i haven't used them yet. i bought two. i've never had a baitcasting reel, so i don't have a lot for comparison, but I've owned scores of reels. i bought these to troll for spanish and blues but also to be strong enough to catch a big redfish or amberjack so i can use them for bottom fishing. I'll probably also used them for big muskies on the river and maybe catfish on the lake. these will be good for trolling and bottom fishing but its a real bonus that i can cast them too. these look really versatile to me. I'm impressed with the quality of the materials and machining for the price. they look much more expensive than they were.

wish I could take pictures inside as i retrieve. feels like it's grinding MOST times. then it gets stuck midway in retrieval. and when u cast it the reel sounds like its hung on something so that makes the reel pur every cast. I am a right handed person but have used spinning reels my entire life so I purchased a left handed rover40 because a left hand retrieve is what I'm comfortable with. This is my first baitcasting reel but I have used others. I have found upon retrieval the reel is very very choppy. I have not brought in a fish on this reel yet but hate to think about how the choppy retrieve will play into reeling in a decent size catfish. Upon arrival it was a challenge trying to figure out the drag as there are no instructions. Something that would have been beneficial to a first time kastking owner. I have given the rating I have because overall I'm not satisfied with my purchase.
M. Parrot : Well built, affordable baitcaster - 50L Model
Smooth retrieving, well built, lightweight baitcaster. Drag feels consistent and cast control works well. Bait clicker is a nice feature for this size of reel. Line capacity is very good. I have a Shimano Calcutta 201B and this KastKing compares quite favorably to the Shimano on performance and build but at 1/4 the cost.
Can't speak to longevity yet. Well packaged with nice felt storage bag. My only gripes are that the exploded diagram labels are impossible to read without a microscope and no instruction manual is included (although it's pretty easy to figure out since it is a pretty standard setup).
If this reel can hold up for any extended period of time, it is a definite winner. Time will tell.

Catfish_Cory : Very good reel for the price
This is my second Rover Round 60 reel and I have a 70 model as well. They are definitely worth their price! I like the 60s better because of the push bar for casting and their regular handle. Very sturdy construction and excellent drag. I have no problem casting either as long as I set the tension right to the bait/weight that I'm using.
I use these reels for flatheads and they are more than capable. I run braid but these could easily fit plenty of 30lb mono. I just spooled 250 yrds of 65lb braid on my newest one. The 70 model has more 40lb mono on it then I'll ever need.
I haven't had any of the grinding issues on the 60s but the 70 makes a little noise when I reel. Does not affect how it operates though.

Motor was working great for the first hour, once I caught a fish the drag wouldnt engage and I was unable to retrieve the line. Lost my line, my swimbait and weight $30 down the "drain" or river I should say.

The reel arrived in a nice box and a nice cloth bag for storage.
Inside the box was a schematic and parts list. This is very good as parts wear out and often need replacement. The schematic was small but readable.
The reel was larger and heavier than I expected but very sturdy. Size wise it is larger than an Abu Garcia Ambassador 6500 but not as large or heavy as a 7000.
The line spool is solid and a nice gold color. It is wider and of larger diameter than the Abu 6500. I was thinking it would hold more line but I was wrong.
The spool release button is larger and over hangs more on the KastKing. Attempting to fill the spool all the way up to its max results in the line hitting the spool release button.
Both reels hold about 240 to 250 yards of 15lb Berkley Big Game Monofilament Line.
I noticed that the level wind assembly was all metal and appeared durable. This compares to both the Abu 6500 C4 approx. $135 and The Abu 7000 approx. $149. Both run smoothly and track well although the Abu Garcia Reels lay the line a little more evenly across the spool.
Comparing the level wind to a Abu Garcia 6500-S approx. $60 the Abu also lays down the line smoother but it has a nylon drive tooth that will not wear as well as the $52 KastKing 60.
Then I decided to get down to business and get inside the reels.
The good news is most of the drive gears and bearings are metal and strong on the KastKing Rover 60 and the Abu 6500 C4. I noticed the spindle size on the C4 to a little thicker but it appeared only a mm or so. I did not take the time to micrometer them.
Comparing it to the Abu 6500-S there was more metal and the construction was much better. Comparing the KastKing Rover 60 to the Abu 7000 is like comparing a Ford F150 to an F350 Super Duty. There is no real comparison. It will not stand up to a 150lb bull shark on the other end like the 7000 could (at max).
However I would have no reservations taking on a 25lb redfish with this reel.
A spin test of just the spool on the spindle outside the reel body revealed that all three reels: KastKing Rover 60, Abu Garcia 6500 C4 and the Abu 6500-S could be made to spin 40 to 60 sec and appeared equivalent in speed. I ran this test to see how pimp able they were to modifications like installing ceramic bearings, removing the level wind assembly, and adding a magnetic brake cast control.
The three reels mentioned above are all equivalent here. (The Abu 7000 spins longer because the spool is significantly heavier)
Still inside the reels all of the Abu Garcia Reels come with six set able centrifugal brakes as well as one or two spool tensions knobs. The KastKing has only two and they are on whether you like it or not.
The Abu 6500 reels come with 4 of the brakes set to the on position at the factory. I changed this to two for my cast test later in the review.
Getting back to cast control the KastKing has two spool tension knobs like the Abu 7000. This is an advantage as the star drag gets in the way of your fingers on the Abu Garcia with only one on the right side.
The clicker assemblies on all three reels were similar with neither really out shining the other. All were adequate to leave the spool in free spool and let the sound alert you on a quiet night bait fishing. None was loud enough to do this on the beach with the waves coming in.
I put the reels back together and filled them with 15lb Big Game Monofilament Line. I mounted them on a Diawa Acculite 9ft Salmon/Steelhead Medium Action Rod.
Attaching a fish scale to a loop tied in the line I tightened the drag all the way down and did three pull tests of one foot. The Abu 6500 claim 15lbs of drag but he C4 only delivered 14.6. The 6500-S claimed 15 but only delivered 11.3. The KastKing Rover Claimed 13.5 and delivered 13.8. The Abu 7000 claims 20 but delivered 27.7.
The Abu 6500 reels and the KastKing were then set to 5lbs and pulled through a 20ft walk away. The KastKing and the Abu 6500 C4 had less than 0.5lb variance during the walk. The Abu 6500-S failed this test on the third walk.(The line broke) All three were pull tested three times over 20ft.
Now we get down to the casting part:
Three cast were made with the Abu 6500 C4, the Abu 6500-S and the KastKing Rover 60 using a 1oz pyramid sinker with a one foot drop down from the rod tip. This was repeated with a 7ft drop down and a Brighton Surf Cast and finally with a full blown Tournament Type of Pendulum Cast.
All three reels were within the margin of individual variance for a single reel.
The one foot drop casts went 70 to 75 yards.
The Brighton Casts went 85 to 95 yards
The Pendulum Casts went 95 to 125 yards.
You will note that as I went to the more difficult surf and tournament casts the variance widened. This is due to my own operator error as I am not a tournament caster and the angle of release is not as consistent between each individual cast with these tournament techniques.
The Abu 6500 C4 was quieter on the cast and the KastKing Rover made more spool noise but both beat the Abu 6500-S here.
My final conclusion is that the KastKing Rover 60 at $52 compares very favorable to the Abu 6500 C4 at $135 and is a real bargain. Don’t waist your money on the Abu 6500-S at $60 it’s a turkey.

Just got the reel two weeks ago.
I loaded it up with line and took it to the park the same day I received it.
The castability of this reel is great, feels well made and looks great.
I could have spent a lot more money in a different reel but why.
So far I am very happy with this reel, my first time with it in the water caught some smelt and mackerel (bait fish) but reel performed very smooth no issues.
Went and ordered an L90 as well.
I loaded it up with line and took it to the park the same day I received it.

Some human : Great conventional reel for the price, just remove the level wind
I removed the level wind then Paired the rover 70 with a 12 okuma surf rod, spooled it with 65lb lastking braid, and a 65 lb mono shock leader. I was able to get some decent casting distance with a 6oz sinker. I noticed only after 3 days of fishing the gears would make a weird noise when i would cast and sometimes the free spool would disengage mid cast causing me to lose some tackle. The drag on my reel would also feel off, i would have to turn it down almost all the way before i would really get any resistance, eventually it got to the point where the anti reverse failed and the handle would turn as drag would be pulled. I may have just received a faulty reel, they seem worth it for the money as long as they work.
Jon Jordan : KastKing Rover70. You get what you pay for.
This is an OK reel. Yes it is significantly cheaper than an abu. BUT, my abu also doesn't have play in the gears. I have had problems with the rover not wanting to keep the spool lock down unless the handle is in perfect position because of loose gears. It will also, occasionally on a hard cast, release the spool lock on its own. Potentially causing backlash and a "birds nest". And even more rarely it would disable itself just off a light bump while waiting for a catfish to hit. I have missed only a few cats to this as circle hooks will often set themselves under the tension.
While it hasn't been a serious problem. it is frustrating. I also purchased an abu garcia catfish special around the same time and the differences between the two are *VERY* noticeable.
However it is reliable under pressure. The rate that it brings in line is impressive, and it easily keeps the 6-8oz weights I use in the river for large live bait up off the bottom and out of the rocks on retrieve. The play in the gears is only noticeable when you aren't bringing something in. I caught many large catfish this year. From 8lb to 20lb channel cats and flatheads over 30lbs. The bait clicker is very loud, which is nice when you need to walk away for a moment.
I mostly bought it for its drag discs. The zebco 888 it replaced just couldn't handle the big ones properly. If you want a decent reel to see if you enjoy catching very large catfish but are on a bit of a budget, I do recommend the kastking rover. If I get 2 decent years out of it before it falls apart, then it did ok. That being said, the abu replaced another abu that I got 15 great years of heavy use out of. But it was 2x the price of the rover....
Also these large reels are overkill if all you do is fish for 2-5lb channels. The rover40 with 15lb braid and a 10lb lead would be absolutely fine for that.

The trend these days is to fish the inshore waters of the Northeast with light tackle. With the exception of a few areas holding out, Fluke fishing in particular has gone light tackle and I'm loving it. This is my second KastKing reel (I also own Legend GT) and I like the fight and the peel of the drag light tackle and a 24" fluke will give you.
Out of the box, it has a nice feel to it. Enough "heft" to let you know you purchased something worth your hard-earned dough, but not a chunk of dead weight that'll give you the start of killer forearms after a day of fishing.
The drag runs smooth and the all-familiar star drag makes it easy to set, even after a hookup.
I'm spooled up with 15lb braid backed by a few yards of 30# mono (I use the same for a leader, btw) and I like the balance it gives me on a 7' 1" heavy casting rod (Also a KastKing, but that's another review).

A Martin : Overrated as a casting reel. Much better out there than this
I saw all the glowing reviews so I bought one. After a year using it I can say I'm disappointed. This is not a high quality reel and the most annoying thing about it is the retrieve. It is not smooth right out of the box but rather feels like like an older reel whose pinion has been worn down. The spool is a little sluggish in responding to long casts. Some reviews compare the larger reels to Abu 6500 and 7000s. I've been using those for decades and these KastKings are nowhere near the Abus in value, only in size. If you want genuine quality then don't bite on these.
Mr. Bug : Won't last long
During the first use of about two hours fishing, the line out alarm disappeared unknowingly. It still worked ok though for the rest of the fishing hours with the alarm missing. Continued to use it for fishing the following day, then found that the Star Drag dial could not set drag tension, turned it to maximum drag but still did not have any drag power, the line pulls freely. Could not believe this product was so poorly made! Luckily, I used it soon after I received the reel, and these problems appeared early and it was still within the return window. I returned it and quickly bought another reel of different brand.
NRA : 3 days of fishing hard so far so good!

Frank C. : Outstanding Baitcasting Reel For a Budget
So I will start off this review by discussing the presentation when opening it. The Rover 70 (the version I purchased) came in a box (pictured above) with only a few scratches and dings (guaranteed to be from shipping) but was otherwise unmarked. I will say it is a nice looking box, not too flashy, doesn't feel like super cheap cardboard (you know the type of cardboard). Onto the contents of the box, inside you'll find the reel, the convenient tote bag (both pictured above) and the parts list for the reel. The tote bag is a nice addition (though more than likely, my reel will be spending a majority of its time on my rod) and the reel came in perfect condition.
Overall on the presentation- 8/10
Onto the pros and cons of the reel itself:
Pros- The reel has an all aluminum frame with a decent sized rubber power handle. Non of that smooth plastic garbage on this handle. The star drag is VERY easy to use. It's positioning on the rod, coupled with its very curved feel makes it very easy to switch drag around, even with a fish pulling on the other end. I used this for one season on the salt for big red drum so far. I haven't had it seize up or any issues from the salt water. It could be a little smoother, but it gets the job done.
Update 05/18: I purchased a second reel for the upcoming season, because I was satisfied from my previous experience. It would be nice if the reel had a clip to attach a bungee to secure it, but I'm able to create a DIY solution for it.

The retrieval on this reel is so smooth. The weight is perfect for long days on the water. The release button operates just like it should and makes for nice, long casts. The box comes with parts details along with a nice travel bag for the reel. I have been wanting this reel for quite some time and I am glad I made the purchase. There are several terrific youtube videos from various owners that will help you decide to buy this reel.

This is an OK reel. Yes it is significantly cheaper than an abu. BUT, my abu also doesn't have play in the gears. I have had problems with the rover not wanting to keep the spool lock down unless the handle is in perfect position because of loose gears. It will also, occasionally on a hard cast, release the spool lock on its own. Potentially causing backlash and a "birds nest". And even more rarely it would disable itself just off a light bump while waiting for a catfish to hit. I have missed only a few cats to this as circle hooks will often set themselves under the tension.
While it hasn't been a serious problem. it is frustrating. I also purchased an abu garcia catfish special around the same time and the differences between the two are *VERY* noticeable.
However it is reliable under pressure. The rate that it brings in line is impressive, and it easily keeps the 6-8oz weights I use in the river for large live bait up off the bottom and out of the rocks on retrieve. The play in the gears is only noticeable when you aren't bringing something in. I caught many large catfish this year. From 8lb to 20lb channel cats and flatheads over 30lbs. The bait clicker is very loud, which is nice when you need to walk away for a moment.

Worst reel i ever owned. Looked interesting enough to buy and try. Terrible reel. The drag doesn't work. When you try to retrieve line you have to assist the reel by pulling on the line. Things a giant piece of Chinese junk. I have an antique pflugger that's 60 years old and resembles this thing. I love that reel. I was hoping for a similar durable newer version of that reel. All these high ratings make me skeptical . That's how bad this real is.

I've always been a spinning reel kind of guy when it comes to catfishing but I've heard great things about this set up, So I figured at the price point this would be a great large profile baitcaster to try. Man I am in love with this thing, it caster about 20-30 foot farther then I expected! A friend of mine who was with me was blown away and he is a big A.G. fishing gear guy but said he's gonna have to make the switch to KastKing Rovers! The bait clicker was easy to use and worked great. Because of the Rover I think I'm going to use baitcasters for big game all the time now. Just ordered my second Rover today!

Purchased the Rover Round 60 Right Hand, spooled with 30 # braid , installed on an Ugly Stick 6' 6" medium heavy. Casting, reeling and drag system was smooth, reel weight and balance was very good. Used this rod & reel combo for striper fishing using live bait, jigs and slow trolling with spinners the reel performed great. Catch was stripers between 1-7 lbs, reel and drag system functioned well. I like the clean design and all metal construction of the reel. I would recommend this reel for the price, performance and design features.

I wanted a good reel at a cheap price for a sabiki rod, had a $200 reel that I bought for bottom fishing that was a piece of crap so I put it on my sabiki rod and still didn't like it. I wanted an ambassaduer like I had before but didn't want to pay the price. I took a chance and bought this kastking, I'm a machinist and know quality and precision and am totally impressed, can't wait to use it this weekend.

This is a nice baitcasting reel for the price. I spooked 65 lb braid with a 3 oz disk weight and slider along with a 110 lb clip on barrel swivel, 50 lb mono leader and a 7/0 hook. Obviously I am fresh water catfishing and salt water pier fishing. Reel is great but you should probably pair with a medium/heavy or heavy action rod. The rod I am using is cheap and I am scared constantly it will snap when big fish are hooked. I love the bait clicker but the spool tensioner is too close to the star drag so tightening/loosening can be uncomfortable. My only complaint.

So I will start off this review by discussing the presentation when opening it. The Rover 70 (the version I purchased) came in a box (pictured above) with only a few scratches and dings (guaranteed to be from shipping) but was otherwise unmarked. I will say it is a nice looking box, not too flashy, doesn't feel like super cheap cardboard (you know the type of cardboard). Onto the contents of the box, inside you'll find the reel, the convenient tote bag (both pictured above) and the parts list for the reel. The tote bag is a nice addition (though more than likely, my reel will be spending a majority of its time on my rod) and the reel came in perfect condition.

The worst reel I have ever seen, And I'm a fishing reel mechanic, the reel is full of gaps all over, the level wind and spool are totally out of alignment, don't even try getting it to align nearly impossible because you turn any of the two side the whole frame would bow everywhere and HUGE GAPS will appear all over the reel, and I purchased 2 and it happened to both reel, ridiculous. and also the gear shift is the worst I have ever seen, completely goes out of alignment when you shift.

Great looking reel. Unfortunately it didn't arrive in time for me to take it to Daytona Beach like I intended. Since I've not had a chance to use it yet I can only rate it based on perceived value, quality and initial feel. Like all KastKing products the packaging was superb. I plan to pair it with a 7'6" Whisker Seeker FMJ rod and spool it with KastKing Extremus 65# braid on mono backing. This is my first baitcaster ever so i'm sure there will be a learning curve. I've purchased several KastKing products and they haven't failed me yet so that's why I chose this reel instead of a more expensive Abu Garcia for my first baitcaster. Will come back and edit my review once I've had a chance to use it.
WStewart : Multiple issues with mine, hearing they are common issues
I have fished with my Rover 40R several times since buying it just under a month ago. One of the handle paddles is about to fall off because the brass rivet securing the paddle to the handle wasn't set properly. Now it is wobbling and this will round out the rivet hole until it falls off. A request sent via the official Kastking warranty process was returned to me indicating I could purchase a replacement handle! So much for their 1 year warranty. Besides that defect I find the drag too loose. Other than that it seemed like a nice, inexpensive reel although I am worried it may not last anywhere near as long as my other name brand reels.

Update3/9/2019- I reached out to kast king about the noise they sent a replacement. Replacement reel showed up box beat to piss handle bent and threads stripped. Emailed them about this as soon as I opened the box and sent them pictures. No reply back. That's was 2 weeks ago. I have tried to get ahold of someone about this multiple times with no reply kast king is getting bigger as a name but customer service and quality is starting to get worse. Save your money and buy something else don't mess with Krap King stuff.
I bought a bass pro catmaxx reel which is super smooth and silent. I then bought a kast king 60r used it and it's crunchy and really loud when reeling in. This is with clicker off. Took the reel apart greased and oiled everything catmaxx got smoother 60r didn't get any better highly disappointed I havnt used the 60r but the one time and acouple casts after the lube service. I'll. Be getting another catmaxx and really thinking about selling all my kast king stuff and going with someone else.

Mark Seeley : Awesome Muskie Reel
After using two R60 Reels for the 2018, 2019, 2020 fishing seasons, I decided to let everyone know how great these reels are. In those 3 fishing seasons, I have casted and retrieved muskie lures for over 300 hours with these reels and caught 91 muskies, all out of my little yellow kayak. I do not fish with live bait. I put these reels through the grinder with constant casting and retrieving of large baits that would tear a subpar reel to pieces in less than a season. I have them loaded with 80# Kast King Super Power Braid and these reels take a beating and never miss a beat. I haven't had to replace them yet, but when I do, let there be no doubt what will replace them. They have performed flawlessly for me in all conditions with constant casting and cranking all muskie lure sizes. From small Mepps Muskie Killers to giant rubber Bulldawgs, this real has handles them all with ease.

This is one of two Rovers I own, the other is a Rover 60. I just got a chance to open the boxes even though I bought them months ago. The two cannot be more different and each in its own way. The 40 is way way too loud to wind, and the 60 is virtually silent. Both drag stars turn themselves loose just as you test winding the handle a few times. As I attempted to see maybe it just takes a few adjustments here and there and reached for the “manual”. Well there isn’t any, and to add insult to injury, the diagram is so so small, I have problems seeing them with a magnifying glass. This is money saving to a point of fault as the printed page contains info for Rover 40-60/70/80-90, with any thoughts the part names could have had the same numbers, and only printed once for all the numbers and give the pictures more space if it came down to printing just on one side of the paper or the profit goes away. But c’mon this is ridiculous.

Very impressed! The reel has a smooth and powerful feel to it. The reel is comparable in construction with reels 2-3 times more expensive. The reel came with schematic/parts list and a nice size cloth storage bag. It is well made and should easily hand anything thrown at it. Surprisingly, the spool release button is ergonomically placed for easy access and is easy manipulation. I’m a spinning reel surf fisher and this is my first baitcasting reel. After a lot of research I found this reel to be highly recommended for beginning baitcasters. I am looking forward to catching my next big fish on this reel.

B. Strait : Great results first time out
I caught four nice catfish my first time out with the Rover 50. I'm new to this style of reel but didn't have any trouble casting or with backlash. So far I love it ! Update 8-12-19 I caught another limit of catfish (3-7lbs) today and really like the reel. However one of the red buttons that hold the knob on fell off and let the knob fall off. I put it back together but not sure if it Is going to stay. I was fishing a rocky shoreline so was lucky I was able to find it.

I bought this for fishing off of my pontoon and back yard canal dock here in Cape Coral, Florida. It's my first bait casting reel, so didn't want to buy something too expensive. I also wanted something that would take a lot of line because the Crevelle Jacks here will really peel line from your reel and have to be turned from the pilings they inevitably head for. This Rover 60 Kastking reel seems to be of sturdy build and looks like it is well worth the price. I like how it is easy to adjust the spool tension with a knob that points to numbers, so you can quickly set the tension for the lure or bait you repeatedly use. I have to get used to tightening the drag after backing off so the clicker will work. And I'm quickly becoming an expert at unfowlling birdsnests as I learn to cast with this reel. Actually, I watched a couple Youtube videos first and as long as you don't forget to apply some thumb pressure, this reel will cast like a dream. I cannot speak to its longivity yet, but will see how it functions 6 months from now.

I am a right handed person but have used spinning reels my entire life so I purchased a left handed rover40 because a left hand retrieve is what I'm comfortable with. This is my first baitcasting reel but I have used others. I have found upon retrieval the reel is very very choppy. I have not brought in a fish on this reel yet but hate to think about how the choppy retrieve will play into reeling in a decent size catfish. Upon arrival it was a challenge trying to figure out the drag as there are no instructions. Something that would have been beneficial to a first time kastking owner. I have given the rating I have because overall I'm not satisfied with my purchase.

Got this for a birthday gift a couple years ago and love it. You can feel the quality of it isnt quite as good as my abu c4 but at almost a third the price it its great cast about as far as my C4 on an 8ft rod and reels the fish in just as good. Only problem i had was the foam knobs came off but i attatched them back on with 2 part apoxy and they havent gave me any trouble since.

I am 64 years old & have fished ALL my life, so I know a “little” about fishing products. With that said, the KastKing Rover 60 is a Great reel. I fish it right along side my 6000 all day long! I fish strictly for Big Catfish & until the Big ones tear the Rover 60 up, I’ll continue to use them with the same success I have had for the last 2 years. They are Not an ambassador, But, they do work Fantastic for hauling in BIG fish.. I have 4 Rover 60’s & will continue to buy others if these ever break or wear out. They ARE GOOD reels.. Period

I purchased the Kastking Rover 50 to use as a saltwater bait caster and pier fishing reel. I have used round bait casters for 25 years. Compared to my 25 year old Abu Garcia BlackMax - see photos - this Rover 50 has similar build quality, thickness in metal construction, and very smooth gears/bearings. I haven't yet fished it, but don't expect to have any issues after handling and spooling the reel. So far, I am very pleased with this purchase. After a few outings, I will update the review.

Mr. Bug : Won't last long
During the first use of about two hours fishing, the line out alarm disappeared unknowingly. It still worked ok though for the rest of the fishing hours with the alarm missing. Continued to use it for fishing the following day, then found that the Star Drag dial could not set drag tension, turned it to maximum drag but still did not have any drag power, the line pulls freely. Could not believe this product was so poorly made! Luckily, I used it soon after I received the reel, and these problems appeared early and it was still within the return window. I returned it and quickly bought another reel of different brand.
