Questions about Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Q:
Will this fit a small kids hand better than the regular Zebco 33? The regular is just a bit big for my 3 year old.
Answer: The reel is just about half the diameter as the 33. The handle is the same size as the 33. If your 3 year old can at least try with the 33 he or she should be able to use the Micro. Way to go at getting them started early. :-)
Answer: The micro, is much smaller than the usual kids reel found on most of the kids fishing sets. The handle is regular size for leverage, this works better than the usual small cheap handles. I bought one for my great neice and she is able to throw and retrieve very well, she is 4 and petite. I would recommend this reel for anyone that wants to start kids out fishing and doesn't want problems.
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes. It's a third of the size of a regular reel. But it'll fit on any rod.
Answer: Yes,I bought these for my grandsons. My youngest one was 3 when he got his. He is 5 now and he can case the line like he is 12.
Answer: Yes I believe it will be a good fit for a child. It is lightweight quiet and smooth. Darlene
Answer: Yes
Q:
Line included ?
Answer: Yes. That little red tab coming out of the front is tied to the line.
Answer: No, all wrong. States 4lbs
Answer: Yes, it comes prespooled with 4lb. Cajun Red
Answer: Mine came with 4 lb Cajun Red pre spooled.
Answer: Yes it’s 6lb
Q:
Can it be changed to left handed?
Answer: Yes. I changed mine from right to left hand, and it only took 30 seconds and a standard full size screw driver.
Answer: Yes it's simple to change from right to left handed use.
Answer: YES IT CAN
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Upgrade from dock demon? will it fit hands of 6 year old? should i get 5' or 6' pole for 46" tall child?
Answer: This reel is small enough for a 6 year old to use and yet strong enough for an adult to use, we have caught 2 pound tilapia and 3 pound catfish on a 5 foot light action rod, for average size pan fish it can't be beat, very economical and durable, would recommend to anyone looking for a great reel.
Answer: These reels are garbage. I’ve had much better luck with the Shakespeare kids reels. Plus they come in fun colors. Walmart has em cheap. As far as pole size, my son likes the 5’ 6” pole I got him. 6’ might be a tad too long. Hope this helped!
Answer: It should and I would recommend a 6ft pole, so they can grow into the pole and reel combo.
Answer: It should fit 6yr old fine, I personally would go with a 5th rod.
Answer: a smaller pole is better for a child that age.
Q:
What is the heaviest line it will take?
Answer: Zebco states 90 yards of 4lb. mono. I spooled my Nephew's up with 6lb. Trilene XL and we haven't had any issues. I personally wouldn't go any heavier than that.
Answer: I spool mine with 10# trilene Xtra tough on my crappie rods for slow trolling jigs. It doesn't hold much but it doesn't need to
Answer: This is a micro reel and for micro fishing with small lures 4# test is all is use, and it works.
Q:
What pound line is on the reel?
Answer: I don't recall what lb. test came spooled on this reel, but I would recommend respooling right away with a good line in the 4-8lb test range. For my 6 year old nephew I went with 6lb Trilene XL.
Answer: Form Zebco's website: 4 lb. Zebco® Cajun Line®
Answer: This reel comes with 4lb mono line
Answer: I believe its 6 pound test. I changed to 10 lbs test when I got mine.
Answer: Mine came with Cajun Line 4 lb test. It's red in color.
Answer: 4lb test. Think it is cajun line
Answer: I trout fish I use 6 lb test an that came on it
Answer: I think not was 4

Answer: I'm pretty sure that it's 10-LB. line.

Pull tight till knot is forms around the inner hub, gab the cone part and screw it back on. Answer: It does click when reeling if The Bite Alert is turned on. If turned off it does not click.
Answer: These devices are of poor quality. I bought two. One did not work what so ever out of the container and the second would cast about 15ft before snagging. It also made a click noice when reeled in.
Answer: Selectively, yes. When "Bite Alert" is engaged, it will click when you reel in line.

Q:

Q:
Wanting to use for crossbow fishing. Can the push button for casting be toggled on or off?
Answer: Not by pushing the button. The button does not toggle. You hold the button down cast release button the line goes out. At this point the button does nothing. You need to reel in the line then the button will resets . No toggle .
Answer: The push button can not be toggled on or off
Answer: This reel lasted a very short time - about two months of light fishing. It started giving me trouble about the third time I used it. I wouldn't recommend it for any fishing, crossbow or otherwise. There was no toggle that I was aware of and I tossed it in the trash as soon as I could get a new one, so I can't check.
Answer: I think that would work.
Answer: I don’t think so.
Q:
Can the handle be put on the left side?
Q:
Is this a good reel dor fishing in the ocean? And whats the max weight itvwill hold?

Answer: No. It's good for panfish, small trout, small bass. Dependable reel. Line would be 4lb - 8lb
Answer: Yes, it is a solid reel. Not sure about the test but I use 12 and that is fine.
Answer: Yes, I have one and have used it in Salt water several times. Works great.

Answer: Good

Is this suitable for salt water use?
Answer: The gears are a zinc die cast, great for fresh water but I would not use for salt water, bearings are regular hardened steel, not stainless steel, again great for fresh water but not for salt water use!

Q:
will this work for an adult?
Answer: Absolutely. I am an adult and it is one of my favorites. Easy to cast. I use it all the time
Answer: I'm retired, and I use this reel for all kinds of fishing, from bream to pond catfish. This reel is a workhorse for it's size, it is a great reel for beetle spins on a light rod. Yes, I believe adults should encourage and use this reel.
Answer: Sure! Adult beginner or not, it would be very serviceable on a light or ultra light set up.
Answer: Sure. I picked up 2 of them for us. Haven't used them as yet. They'll be perfect for when we're out on the Jon boat. Our other spin cast reels have some age on them, and are now getting prone to malfunction. Their compact size is a novel idea, but you can't beat a new Zebco. In fact, just yesterday I picked up 2 rods for them. I'll string them when I get a minute.
Answer: Yes, this is what I have on my ultra-light rod for crappie.
Answer: Yes it will! This uses 4-6lb mono.
Answer: Perfect little machine... Bravo Zebco, always one step further... Thanks!!!
Answer: yes, most definitely

Product reviews of Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Peter Merry : Zebco's are AWESOME reels (& poles)
Zebco's are AWESOME reels (& poles).
I got two of these. and these work great!
Timothy : Great reel!
These reels are awesome, the workhorse of fishing reels. I’ve had many of these over the years from the micro to the jumbo and they hold up even to my kids using them which says a lot.
Rod : Great reels.
Excellent reels. I use these for years. No problems with the line getting tangled.
Will buy again.
Chip Hartley : Lesson finally learned?
I always have faith in zebco reels for some reason, maybe because my dad loved them. Truth is I’m always let down by the quality - I bought 2 of these and a 33 and after one season of fishing and the reels don’t cast right, one of the handles will not stay tight, one of them catches when you retrieve your line so for me I’m disappointed again. This will probably be the time I finally remember not to buy zebco reels again... lesson learned
Peter Merry : Zebco's are AWESOME reels (& poles)
Zebco's are AWESOME reels (& poles).
I got two of these. and these work great!
Michael Cullen : So Disappointed - casting fails.
This is the 4th Zebco reel I've bought in the last 2 years. The 33 and the 404 still work well. The smaller reels do not. They initially worked well but then cease to cast correctly. They seem to have trouble releasing the line. I can't figure out why that is. They've failed me enough that I'm switching to Pfleuger spinning reels. I grew up on Zebco. Really bummed out about the inconsistencies.
Dark Rider : Nice little reel
It works very well I like the way it cast out very nice I would buy it again.
prescottkid : Zebco is the best
Great long lasting product. Mostly the same quality as years past but better than that cheap junk at walmart. I highly recommend these for an economical reel that will last many years.
jim : Piece of Junk...Amazon Warehouse should not have sent
Piece of junk. Even more junky in that Amazon Warehouse even let this out the door. It was junk if new. Its less than junk in the condition that it was released from Amazon Warehouse. Obviously, the Inspection sticker that amazon puts on these items is useless. Amazon: Save some money and stop the false advertising by eliminating the sticker. Just put a sticker of Caveat Emptor on it.
STXBR : Good reel
Better reel than come with the combo packages and a little larger. More like my old 33.
strong line too. worked out of the package no problems.
Jeffrey J Overton : Have used Zebco 33 since I was a little kid
It has changed a little, they are now manufactured in China, but still works great. For the price you can't go wrong and is an easy reel to use for kids or beginners. Take out the line that comes pre-rolled on it and replace with some stronger line, maybe 10 lb test. The line that comes in there might have been on the reel for months or a year and will have some burrs on it. Bought this for my 9 year old and he is casting like a champ.
LLP : Okay quality reel, Purple color is great
I have had several Zebco 33's over the years.
I have never had a problem from any of them.
First thing I usually do is replace the line with a better quality line that I prefer.
This one looks great, It does not cast as smoothly as older models.
But it works okay for the price.
The purple color looks good.
Rich & Peggy : It feels like something is rubbing or dragging against the spool
I have several Zebco 33 reels for lake fishing. I bought this one to replace an old Zebco that was literally wore out after decades of use. However, this reel does not have nearly the quality of earlier models. It reels in very rough. It feels like something is rubbing or dragging against the spool. I have dis-assembled the reel, checked for burrs, cleaned it, lubed it, sanded the retrieving surfaces with 1000 grit sandpaper, replaced the line, etc. It is still difficult and uncomfortable to use. It feels like a fish is constantly bumping the lure when retrieving line. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a quality issue with a Zebco 33 until I bought this most recent one.
random shopper : Great reel for kids
My 8 year old is having a blast fishing for snappers with this. He can cast pretty far with it. I try to rinse it after salt water exposure, we'll see how it holds up as we've only used it a half dozen times so far, but so far so good. Comes w red 10 lb test which seems ok so far and overall seems pretty well made.
Harley : Great price great product awesome seller.
Amazing quality full metal body and very strong. Casts extremely far and precise casting also. It is legit Zebco.
Amazon Customer : Overall great reel.
The classic 33 in micro form is awesome! Great reel for kids or those of smaller stature just starting out. The only complaint would be the bait alarm switch. Engaging this switch also allows one to back reel. That's fine if you know what your doing and have tension on the line. If there is no tension, you end up with a snarled mess around the spool.
michael carabotta : this is a micro fishing reel
If you are fishing for sunfish or bluegill and only need 2 lb test line this is for you. it is a toy for fishing any other kinds of fish. You can not tell the size of the reel in the amazon pictures. Fits in you pocket and you don't know its there. Clothes thread has more strength than the line it comes with and does not hold much line. I plan on buying another reel.
John W. LaPorte : Easy to easy and WILL LAST!
It’s a Zebco 33. Made to last for all fishing skill levels. I have about 10 of these and wouldn’t buy anything else.

GoldChef : I thought this would be a great reel for my daughter and wife since it worked ...
My Dad started me off with this reel as a kid, I thought this would be a great reel for my daughter and wife since it worked so well for me as a kid. Unfortunately, this is not the same as the original Zebco, as the quality, is nowhere near the same. I ran 6 lb and 8lb PLINE on both reels. Their was no difference between the two reels, both started well on the first 10 casts, but suddenly started to catch mid cast on both. Does not appear to be a very durable reel but for the cost, is a good starter for the kids. I bought this same reel 15 years ago and used it on both fresh and saltwater, the quality today is nowhere the same.
N : Reel foot had an issue that needed solving, otherwise a good buy
Bought to replace a really old zebco 202 that broke. The major pieces seem to be a lot sturdier than that. While the casing is metal, be aware that the pin appears to be plastic or nylon.
The foot of the reel did not fit the two 15+ year old rods I had, it was slightly too wide for the reel seats. I shaved the reel foot with a utility knife and it fits fine now.
Attached a photo for size reference with a toddler zebco outfit. This is great for little hands. Casts really smooth and far. I was surprised.
FYI With the "bite detector" on it seems to allow reeling backwards, which creates an internal bird's nest. Maybe leave that off with the little ones.
John W. LaPorte : Easy to easy and WILL LAST!
It’s a Zebco 33. Made to last for all fishing skill levels. I have about 10 of these and wouldn’t buy anything else.
Harley : Great price great product awesome seller.
Amazing quality full metal body and very strong. Casts extremely far and precise casting also. It is legit Zebco.
Ted Smith : Cool little reel
Cool little reel. I've had a few of the Micro 33's over that last couple years. I continue to be pleased with them. This one has a unique casting mechanism that begins to approximate how one would cast with a spinning reel. Pretty cool. They aren't the world's greatest reels, but they work well, they are durable, and very accessible to kids and inexperienced fishermen. And they are relatively cheap. You really can't go wrong with one of these. A good reel for a fun day of fishing.
Bino : I did change the line 8lb test and took it ...
I did change the line 8lb test and took it out to a small lake near the house..I worked fine
DesertScottAZ : Got this to replace the reel on my kid's cheapo walmart combo
This is a decent reel. Not smoot. Not the best ratio. Gets the job done. The reel we took off the cheapo combo would 'snap out' of casting mode and pop back occasionally so we got this and the problem is gone. I like being able to swap handle sides and it's decent for the money.
Elmer Fudd : Highly recommend
This was a gift for my son. I really like this style of reel, this was not my first one like this and my kids have less problems casting with this than the push button type. I have also cast with it and really like it. Recommend for children, beginners or fishing with ultra light poles.
JB : terrible reel
i bought because i remembered the zebco 33 reels as a kid. New ones are not the same. Broke in 15 minutes of use. Internal mechanisms broke and made a bird's nest of line. Couldn't even get the cover to screw back on. Junk. It went into the trash.
MyKidsBreakStuff : I'm still reeling
My kids broke the reel that came with our original ugly stick, so I figured I'd give this a try. Fits right on, but the line that came with it was obviously old because it was all kinky and twisted like girls I dated in college. Replaced the line and it's ready for the kids to drop it to the bottom of the lake anytime now.
jim : Piece of Junk...Amazon Warehouse should not have sent

David W. Williams : Lies about shipping,
The reel is fine, about what you would expect for an inexpensive reel. I don't mind slow shipping if that's what I expect. But the next day after I order it, Garrett Outdoors e-mails that it has shipped. Sounds good, but it doesn't get into the USPS system for ten days. Don't tell me my package has shipped when it is sitting on your shelf.
Amazon Customer : Poor quality and design
Poor quality and design. I didn’t expect a lot for a reel under 20 dollars but it’s worse than expected.
Mike D. Dunlap : neat little reel
I just got the reel today and I am very pleased. It is smaller than I realized pictures of it don't show its relative size. It appears well made, runs smooth. It will make a great back-pac reel which is why I bought it. I bought the 5'6" 2pc zebco rod and the pair make a really nice light weight combo. I just fish for panfish so it will be fun to catch those big gills with it.
Daniel L. Moore : Good Ultralight Reel
This is my second one. Wore the first one out after years of use and abuse. The drags on these are okay but could be smoother. For the price, this makes a good reel matched with an ultra-light rod for panfish, small bass, and small catfish.
jg71 : Awesome
Great little reel. Works flawlessly.
rail ryder : Junk. ALL JUNK
Zebco isnt what it used to be. Junk.these companies are designing their products to break quickly so u will be back quickly for another. Fishing gear is a multi million dollar industry and they are making a killing just putting bum products out there.im 58 yrs old so rem when zebco made good stuff. All junk now
Jack Thorne : NOT UP TO ZEBCO STANDARDS
This reel appears to be cheaply constructed. The cover was glued on with only a dab of adhesive and comes off with practically every cast.
Ryan E. : Solid reel for the price
For the price, it's a good reel. Solid construction, smooth reel-action. It came pre-wound with a red-colored 10-pound line which is sufficient. It has a bite notification feature, which seems to me pretty useless as it just keeps the reel from locking, so you can see if it's reeling backward. My only minor complaint is that the drag seems quite loose (I had to set mine all the way tight for panfish and bass fishing).
Pepaw : Nice and easy
Small size makes it good for kids to learn spincasting methods. Those new to fishing will like the ease of use this feel provides. Pretty simple set up, basic entry feel for now and then anglers!
prescottkid : Zebco is the best
Great long lasting product. Mostly the same quality as years past but better than that cheap junk at walmart. I highly recommend these for an economical reel that will last many years.
Chuck S. : Ok for simple use
Like the value and light weight hiking to river. Not sure his old line is but it broke easy during normal casting. If I had to again, I would pass and stay original.
David : Great for ease of use
So, I bought a rod with a baitcasting reel on it. I messed around with that reel for a weekend out fishing. Nothing but problems. I am not a very experienced fisherman, but I am also not inexperienced. I bought this to replace it. I didn't have a single problem and enjoyed the weekend I used it much more. I understand experienced fisherman might be able to make full use of the more advanced reels, but I just want to be able to cast the line and relax.
Bert : Great for the kids
I have 8 grandkids. They all started fishing with a zebco 33 micro with a five foot pole. Great starter reel.
Gary Beckman : Top heavy
This reel is top heavy on the rod. Keeps wanting to go over to one side or the other. Works good but not well balanced.
Amazon Customer : Great little reel
Use this reel when kayak fishing for smallmouth and bluegill as i got tired of dealing the spinning reel tangles. Always remember to check your drag (not one of the reels strong points) and you can easily handle a 3 lb fish. An 8 lb catfish, caught while throwing a very small crankbait for bass, is my record with this reel.
Daniel L. Moore : Good Ultralight Reel
This is my second one. Wore the first one out after years of use and abuse. The drags on these are okay but could be smoother. For the price, this makes a good reel matched with an ultra-light rod for panfish, small bass, and small catfish.
daydreamer 26 : your taking a chance don't try to repair your self
first one line all jamed up on center rod tried to fix destroyed it tossed it
second one i tried again figured it was a fluke wrong same problem center rod jamed up
returned same would not cast gave up with zebco
JD : Quality and value!
I ordered two of these as replacements for cheap reels that came with our rods from the blue big-box store. Man, what I difference! Our casting distance has improved about 50% and the line reels in smoothly! Very pleased with this purchase!
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
