Questions about Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Q:
Will this fit a small kids hand better than the regular Zebco 33? The regular is just a bit big for my 3 year old.
Answer: The reel is just about half the diameter as the 33. The handle is the same size as the 33. If your 3 year old can at least try with the 33 he or she should be able to use the Micro. Way to go at getting them started early. :-)
Answer: The micro, is much smaller than the usual kids reel found on most of the kids fishing sets. The handle is regular size for leverage, this works better than the usual small cheap handles. I bought one for my great neice and she is able to throw and retrieve very well, she is 4 and petite. I would recommend this reel for anyone that wants to start kids out fishing and doesn't want problems.
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes. It's a third of the size of a regular reel. But it'll fit on any rod.
Answer: Yes,I bought these for my grandsons. My youngest one was 3 when he got his. He is 5 now and he can case the line like he is 12.
Answer: Yes I believe it will be a good fit for a child. It is lightweight quiet and smooth. Darlene
Answer: Yes
Q:
Line included ?
Answer: Yes. That little red tab coming out of the front is tied to the line.
Answer: No, all wrong. States 4lbs
Answer: Yes, it comes prespooled with 4lb. Cajun Red
Answer: Mine came with 4 lb Cajun Red pre spooled.
Answer: Yes it’s 6lb
Q:
Can it be changed to left handed?
Answer: Yes. I changed mine from right to left hand, and it only took 30 seconds and a standard full size screw driver.
Answer: Yes it's simple to change from right to left handed use.
Answer: YES IT CAN
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Upgrade from dock demon? will it fit hands of 6 year old? should i get 5' or 6' pole for 46" tall child?
Answer: This reel is small enough for a 6 year old to use and yet strong enough for an adult to use, we have caught 2 pound tilapia and 3 pound catfish on a 5 foot light action rod, for average size pan fish it can't be beat, very economical and durable, would recommend to anyone looking for a great reel.
Answer: These reels are garbage. I’ve had much better luck with the Shakespeare kids reels. Plus they come in fun colors. Walmart has em cheap. As far as pole size, my son likes the 5’ 6” pole I got him. 6’ might be a tad too long. Hope this helped!
Answer: It should and I would recommend a 6ft pole, so they can grow into the pole and reel combo.
Answer: It should fit 6yr old fine, I personally would go with a 5th rod.
Answer: a smaller pole is better for a child that age.
Q:
What is the heaviest line it will take?
Answer: Zebco states 90 yards of 4lb. mono. I spooled my Nephew's up with 6lb. Trilene XL and we haven't had any issues. I personally wouldn't go any heavier than that.
Answer: I spool mine with 10# trilene Xtra tough on my crappie rods for slow trolling jigs. It doesn't hold much but it doesn't need to
Answer: This is a micro reel and for micro fishing with small lures 4# test is all is use, and it works.
Q:
What pound line is on the reel?
Answer: I don't recall what lb. test came spooled on this reel, but I would recommend respooling right away with a good line in the 4-8lb test range. For my 6 year old nephew I went with 6lb Trilene XL.
Answer: Form Zebco's website: 4 lb. Zebco® Cajun Line®
Answer: This reel comes with 4lb mono line
Answer: I believe its 6 pound test. I changed to 10 lbs test when I got mine.
Answer: Mine came with Cajun Line 4 lb test. It's red in color.
Answer: 4lb test. Think it is cajun line
Answer: I trout fish I use 6 lb test an that came on it
Answer: I think not was 4

Pull tight till knot is forms around the inner hub, gab the cone part and screw it back on. Answer: Selectively, yes. When "Bite Alert" is engaged, it will click when you reel in line.

Q:
Wanting to use for crossbow fishing. Can the push button for casting be toggled on or off?
Answer: Not by pushing the button. The button does not toggle. You hold the button down cast release button the line goes out. At this point the button does nothing. You need to reel in the line then the button will resets . No toggle .
Answer: The push button can not be toggled on or off
Answer: This reel lasted a very short time - about two months of light fishing. It started giving me trouble about the third time I used it. I wouldn't recommend it for any fishing, crossbow or otherwise. There was no toggle that I was aware of and I tossed it in the trash as soon as I could get a new one, so I can't check.
Answer: I think that would work.
Answer: I don’t think so.
Q:
Can the handle be put on the left side?
Q:

Answer: No. It's good for panfish, small trout, small bass. Dependable reel. Line would be 4lb - 8lb

Q:
will this work for an adult?
Answer: Absolutely. I am an adult and it is one of my favorites. Easy to cast. I use it all the time
Answer: I'm retired, and I use this reel for all kinds of fishing, from bream to pond catfish. This reel is a workhorse for it's size, it is a great reel for beetle spins on a light rod. Yes, I believe adults should encourage and use this reel.
Answer: Sure! Adult beginner or not, it would be very serviceable on a light or ultra light set up.
Answer: Sure. I picked up 2 of them for us. Haven't used them as yet. They'll be perfect for when we're out on the Jon boat. Our other spin cast reels have some age on them, and are now getting prone to malfunction. Their compact size is a novel idea, but you can't beat a new Zebco. In fact, just yesterday I picked up 2 rods for them. I'll string them when I get a minute.
Answer: Yes, this is what I have on my ultra-light rod for crappie.
Answer: Yes it will! This uses 4-6lb mono.

Product reviews of Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
M. F. Breen : Stopped working on first use.
First time we used it they stopped reading in. If you set the drag up it made it difficult to real in, but that stopped working properly also.
David W. Williams : Lies about shipping,
The reel is fine, about what you would expect for an inexpensive reel. I don't mind slow shipping if that's what I expect. But the next day after I order it, Garrett Outdoors e-mails that it has shipped. Sounds good, but it doesn't get into the USPS system for ten days. Don't tell me my package has shipped when it is sitting on your shelf.
Chip Hartley : Lesson finally learned?
I always have faith in zebco reels for some reason, maybe because my dad loved them. Truth is I’m always let down by the quality - I bought 2 of these and a 33 and after one season of fishing and the reels don’t cast right, one of the handles will not stay tight, one of them catches when you retrieve your line so for me I’m disappointed again. This will probably be the time I finally remember not to buy zebco reels again... lesson learned
Ducky : Great micro reel!
Works perfectly. I'm using it on a 10 foot crappie rod, fishing for Rainbow Trout. My father caught over 20 trout with it and said it was the best reel he had used in years.
Rod : Great reels.
Excellent reels. I use these for years. No problems with the line getting tangled.
Will buy again.
jason : Quality metal
Seems to only like certain lines. The line would get tight inside and have to pull out lines. Tried 6-8lbs mono and still the same. Otherwise way better then the Shakespeare kids reel.
Chris Ellis : Excellent reel out of the box
Excellent reel out of the box. I bought this for my 4 year old son to replace a junk Shakespear reel that died. The reel is smooth, small, light weight and the button is easily pushed for children. The handle is made from metal and not plastic. The drag is smooth and the "bite indicator" is a cool feature for children who leave there pole unatended.
The line that come with the pole is not high end but it's not junk either. It gets the job done. The reel feels of quality construction and I don't feel any "play" in the reel. Very happy with this purchase. Zebco did a great job with this reel.
Rolidnot : Nice quality, low price micro spin cast reel
A well made, inexpensive micro spin cast reel that would be great for kids or in my case, cats. I bought a small 24 inch ice fishing rod and this reel to cast mice around the house to exercise the cats. They love it and the exercise keeps them out of (some) trouble. I use 6 pound braided fishing line - monofilament line is too sharp for the kitties. The braided line is a lot softer but I still use great care with the cats when playing mouse to be sure I have no excess line that can tangle their feet.
Lynn Nymeyer : Typical action
The reel works adequately, typical for a Zebco. Casting does not have the distance I'd hoped, drag works ok. Issue may arise from one of the different noises it makes while casting and reeling. These grinding noise may be indicator of future problems.
michael carabotta : this is a micro fishing reel
If you are fishing for sunfish or bluegill and only need 2 lb test line this is for you. it is a toy for fishing any other kinds of fish. You can not tell the size of the reel in the amazon pictures. Fits in you pocket and you don't know its there. Clothes thread has more strength than the line it comes with and does not hold much line. I plan on buying another reel.
Darryl : #Goodbuy
My girlfriend's fishes with these close face pose and she loves very easy very lightweight catch 6,7 pound catfish no problem
Solar Powered : Very Thin Line, Lots of Tangles
I love the small size of this reel. I have a short pole and this fits on it nicely. It casts smoothly and reels in easily. My only complaint is that the test weight of the line is SO fine that it easily turns into a tangled mess, especially in a slight breeze. I don’t regret buying it, but I also wouldn’t rush to buy another one.
Johnwp : Works
I bought a new carbon fiber rod and it was so light that I wanted a reel as light as possible and still have some guts. My new rod and reel combo, together, is the lightest I have ever owned. I just came in from fishing, most of the day, with my new setup and I am more than pleased with it. We were fishing for crappie and caught several keepers. The sand bass were biting and we caught several; some pretty good sized. Was the reel perfect? No, but it only cost 16 bucks. Did it work flawlessly? No, but it did work, and it only cost 16 bucks. Bottom line; I'm glad I bought it and would gladly buy it again. The reviews saying "Poor quality" are a joke. What the heck do they expect for 16 bucks? Zebco's always have worked, and they still, work.
M. F. Breen : Stopped working on first use.
First time we used it they stopped reading in. If you set the drag up it made it difficult to real in, but that stopped working properly also.
M. Belken : Good youth starter.
Much better than older model, seems to grab line better and is smoother. Great starter for someone getting started or child about 10-12. Change line after a while to XT. I have several other brands of spincast that are more expensive, works as well or better. Granddaughter thinks this "purple" reel is cool, have not seen anyone else w/ one.
Rod : Great reels.
Excellent reels. I use these for years. No problems with the line getting tangled.
Will buy again.
Nate C. : Poor Quality, Broke 2nd Time Using It
Poor quality. Bought a Zebco rod and reel combo fir my son. The first reel lasted a few months score breaking. I ordered this as a replacement. We’ve used it twice and now it won’t reel the line back in. I handle the rod for him and take very good care of it while transporting and storing. It really comes down to quality as opposed to care fir the product. I will buy a different brand reel to replace on the rod.

Ted Smith : Cool little reel
Cool little reel. I've had a few of the Micro 33's over that last couple years. I continue to be pleased with them. This one has a unique casting mechanism that begins to approximate how one would cast with a spinning reel. Pretty cool. They aren't the world's greatest reels, but they work well, they are durable, and very accessible to kids and inexperienced fishermen. And they are relatively cheap. You really can't go wrong with one of these. A good reel for a fun day of fishing.
Timmo Gee : Zebco 33 Authentic Spincast Reel
I've used a number of Zebco 33 reels for over 40 years. Simple and easy to cast. Great for most freshwater fishing.
The Zebco 33 is the classic spin-cast reel...and the best selling for good reasons.
random shopper : Great reel for kids
My 8 year old is having a blast fishing for snappers with this. He can cast pretty far with it. I try to rinse it after salt water exposure, we'll see how it holds up as we've only used it a half dozen times so far, but so far so good. Comes w red 10 lb test which seems ok so far and overall seems pretty well made.
Harley : Great price great product awesome seller.
Amazing quality full metal body and very strong. Casts extremely far and precise casting also. It is legit Zebco.
E. John Tollard : Broke
I was happy with the fast delivery . But that’s about it . I’ve had it for 10 days and has nothing but trouble with it . The line skips if you have a small fish on it . And the line release broke . I have bought this same one in the past . And was happy with them . But now I’m not . Would not buy again
Chris Ellis : Excellent reel out of the box

Timothy : Great reel!
These reels are awesome, the workhorse of fishing reels. I’ve had many of these over the years from the micro to the jumbo and they hold up even to my kids using them which says a lot.
Dark Rider : Nice little reel
It works very well I like the way it cast out very nice I would buy it again.
N : Reel foot had an issue that needed solving, otherwise a good buy
Bought to replace a really old zebco 202 that broke. The major pieces seem to be a lot sturdier than that. While the casing is metal, be aware that the pin appears to be plastic or nylon.
The foot of the reel did not fit the two 15+ year old rods I had, it was slightly too wide for the reel seats. I shaved the reel foot with a utility knife and it fits fine now.
Attached a photo for size reference with a toddler zebco outfit. This is great for little hands. Casts really smooth and far. I was surprised.
FYI With the "bite detector" on it seems to allow reeling backwards, which creates an internal bird's nest. Maybe leave that off with the little ones.
450F : Quality
Awesome real I own lots of them I still have my first one that was bought for me when I was 8 years old I am 56 now and it still works fine. All my reels I take the 10 lb test off of them as soon as I get them in put 17 lb test on them. I've never had any trouble out of any of my Zebco 33s and I use them a lot.
David : Great for ease of use
So, I bought a rod with a baitcasting reel on it. I messed around with that reel for a weekend out fishing. Nothing but problems. I am not a very experienced fisherman, but I am also not inexperienced. I bought this to replace it. I didn't have a single problem and enjoyed the weekend I used it much more. I understand experienced fisherman might be able to make full use of the more advanced reels, but I just want to be able to cast the line and relax.
Mike : It will cast light weight lures far.
I liked how far it could cast a light weight lure. I also liked how I could put the crank on the left side (even though I'm right handed it makes more sense, no swapping the pole from hand to hand). I love my baitcaster but it can't cast light weight lures that's why I got this reel.
Gary Smith : not usable even by children
poor design and poor quality - will handle crappies up to a pound or so - anyone with average size hands will find the trigger pinching them - the trigger design is flawed causing line hang ups because the line pins are not fully retracted -
and way overpriced - shame on Zebco - a company that made the model 33 of old - don't believe the good reviews - this reel isn't worth he cost of returning - I actually fish and gave this reel a one day trial - it is junk
Shawn Conaway : Great Bang for the Buck!
Great value for the money for someone who just occasionally uses it and fishes just for fun. Not made nearly as well as the old original Zebco 33's, But smooth, easy to use for the occasional Fisherman.
David W. Williams : Lies about shipping,

Daniel L. Moore : Good Ultralight Reel
This is my second one. Wore the first one out after years of use and abuse. The drags on these are okay but could be smoother. For the price, this makes a good reel matched with an ultra-light rod for panfish, small bass, and small catfish.
Eazy : Not worth the money.
Definitely smaller than I expected...when they say "micro" they meant micro. The spooled line is probably equal to sewing thread strength. So I expect if I catch anything bigger than a goldfish it's probably going to snap the line and get away. For now I will just let my four-year-old grandkids use it as I don't expect it to last too long.

Amazon Customer : Five Stars
nice small reel, bought three so far.
lightweight.
Carl K. : A little disappointed; not 2016 model
The listing for this item was for the 2016 model; I was fully aware that model might not be available, however, the new 2021 (I assume) is an excellent ultra-light trigger spin reel. That mid-2000's range of Zebco reels were really exceptional, I have several in my collection; purchased a newer platinum 33 model and it's not of the same quality, though not terrible. There's too much plastic on the outside.
This newer trigger-spin model has a small footprint; it's very compact, fits the hand nicely, and casts smoothly and far. Tried it on the lawn with about a 1/4" teardrop weight and it casts really far. Used a 1/16 spinner bait this morning at the park pond and it did pretty well casting that light weight. The line, 4 lb test clear Cajun seems to be good quality monofilament line.
I'm overall happy with the purchase; however, I'll have my eye out for an old stock 2016 or so ultra-light Zebco triggerspin reel
michael carabotta : this is a micro fishing reel
If you are fishing for sunfish or bluegill and only need 2 lb test line this is for you. it is a toy for fishing any other kinds of fish. You can not tell the size of the reel in the amazon pictures. Fits in you pocket and you don't know its there. Clothes thread has more strength than the line it comes with and does not hold much line. I plan on buying another reel.
PandaTruck : No rough edges finished nicely
Extremely happy with my zebco 33 micro so far the finish is so nice and smooth compared to a regular size 33 and it's smooth as butter when you reel it in. You can tell whoever worked on my specific reel cared about the fit and finish a lot more than other ones I've seen. Paired up on an orange zebco two piece hot cast rod and I'm in love haha. Nicer than dock demon I think.
Swann : Made in a foreign country crap
Casts just fine. Doesn't reel in. Cheap 10 lb test line broke two different times, once losing the fish and a lure. J will never buy another Zebco reel until they're made in the USA again.
Brandonjay : Cheap reel
Broke after 5 casts. I’m done with push button reels haha

Daniel L. Moore : Good Ultralight Reel
This is my second one. Wore the first one out after years of use and abuse. The drags on these are okay but could be smoother. For the price, this makes a good reel matched with an ultra-light rod for panfish, small bass, and small catfish.
Roy A. West : Don't be afraid to try bigger line on it.
I have bunched of reels all the way from Abu Garcia Rocket and Shimano Stradic's and countless other reels but for the price this 33 Micro is the best you can get. I am serious about fishing and this little feel works like it's supposed to. Oh yes I also have 5 of the Zebco Bullets and I had rather use these than them. I've sent all the way up to 15 lb Berkley Big Game mono on it and it still cast like a dream. Tighten the drag all the way down and bring in some big bass. I use them for soft plastic lures mostly and they work great for skipping docks or low tree limbs. You won't be disappointed.
Linda K : Christmas gifts
I really can't write a review just yet. I bought 2 new Zebco reels as Christmas gifts. They're small and lightweight. I'll bank on the fact that I've used Zebco reels since I was a boy. I'm sure they'll be just fine and work well.
Kyle A Walker : Great reel with bite detection
I got this reel as an alternative to the plastic "snoopy" rods that are, in my opinion, quite useless. This reel is great, very solidly built. It's tight where it should be as well as smooth where it should be. It comes spooled with seemingly good quality 4lb red mono so you won't have to re spool it out of the box like so many kids setups.
I wanted to talk about the bite detection as I could find very little info on this even after lots of searching on the web. Basically it allows you to disengage the drag but be able to detect if a fish is running off with your bait. It has a clicking sound that is distinct from the drag so you can differentiate between the two. When you want to set the hook and engage the drag just grab the reel handle and your good to go. Simple but effective. I like this little reel and fully plan to borrow it from my son frequently.
Fish Master : Shitty as hell
Yea I thought zebco would be alright I remember fishing with these reels a long time ago but now they’re trash. I got this reel and first of all it makes a scraping noise when I reel it in right off the bat and the anti reverse is a joke it rotates almost a full turn before catching. So in conslusion it’s a complete piece of garbage
