Questions about Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Q:
Will this fit a small kids hand better than the regular Zebco 33? The regular is just a bit big for my 3 year old.
Answer: The reel is just about half the diameter as the 33. The handle is the same size as the 33. If your 3 year old can at least try with the 33 he or she should be able to use the Micro. Way to go at getting them started early. :-)
Answer: The micro, is much smaller than the usual kids reel found on most of the kids fishing sets. The handle is regular size for leverage, this works better than the usual small cheap handles. I bought one for my great neice and she is able to throw and retrieve very well, she is 4 and petite. I would recommend this reel for anyone that wants to start kids out fishing and doesn't want problems.
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes. It's a third of the size of a regular reel. But it'll fit on any rod.
Answer: Yes,I bought these for my grandsons. My youngest one was 3 when he got his. He is 5 now and he can case the line like he is 12.
Answer: Yes I believe it will be a good fit for a child. It is lightweight quiet and smooth. Darlene
Answer: Yes
Q:
Line included ?
Answer: Yes. That little red tab coming out of the front is tied to the line.
Answer: No, all wrong. States 4lbs
Answer: Yes, it comes prespooled with 4lb. Cajun Red
Answer: Mine came with 4 lb Cajun Red pre spooled.
Answer: Yes it’s 6lb
Q:
Can it be changed to left handed?
Answer: Yes. I changed mine from right to left hand, and it only took 30 seconds and a standard full size screw driver.
Answer: Yes it's simple to change from right to left handed use.
Answer: YES IT CAN
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Upgrade from dock demon? will it fit hands of 6 year old? should i get 5' or 6' pole for 46" tall child?
Answer: This reel is small enough for a 6 year old to use and yet strong enough for an adult to use, we have caught 2 pound tilapia and 3 pound catfish on a 5 foot light action rod, for average size pan fish it can't be beat, very economical and durable, would recommend to anyone looking for a great reel.
Answer: These reels are garbage. I’ve had much better luck with the Shakespeare kids reels. Plus they come in fun colors. Walmart has em cheap. As far as pole size, my son likes the 5’ 6” pole I got him. 6’ might be a tad too long. Hope this helped!
Answer: It should and I would recommend a 6ft pole, so they can grow into the pole and reel combo.
Answer: It should fit 6yr old fine, I personally would go with a 5th rod.
Answer: a smaller pole is better for a child that age.
Q:
What is the heaviest line it will take?
Answer: Zebco states 90 yards of 4lb. mono. I spooled my Nephew's up with 6lb. Trilene XL and we haven't had any issues. I personally wouldn't go any heavier than that.
Answer: I spool mine with 10# trilene Xtra tough on my crappie rods for slow trolling jigs. It doesn't hold much but it doesn't need to
Answer: This is a micro reel and for micro fishing with small lures 4# test is all is use, and it works.
Q:
What pound line is on the reel?
Answer: I don't recall what lb. test came spooled on this reel, but I would recommend respooling right away with a good line in the 4-8lb test range. For my 6 year old nephew I went with 6lb Trilene XL.
Answer: Form Zebco's website: 4 lb. Zebco® Cajun Line®
Answer: This reel comes with 4lb mono line
Answer: I believe its 6 pound test. I changed to 10 lbs test when I got mine.
Answer: Mine came with Cajun Line 4 lb test. It's red in color.
Answer: 4lb test. Think it is cajun line
Answer: I trout fish I use 6 lb test an that came on it
Answer: I think not was 4

Answer: I'm pretty sure that it's 10-LB. line.

Answer: Selectively, yes. When "Bite Alert" is engaged, it will click when you reel in line.

Q:
Wanting to use for crossbow fishing. Can the push button for casting be toggled on or off?
Answer: Not by pushing the button. The button does not toggle. You hold the button down cast release button the line goes out. At this point the button does nothing. You need to reel in the line then the button will resets . No toggle .
Answer: The push button can not be toggled on or off
Answer: This reel lasted a very short time - about two months of light fishing. It started giving me trouble about the third time I used it. I wouldn't recommend it for any fishing, crossbow or otherwise. There was no toggle that I was aware of and I tossed it in the trash as soon as I could get a new one, so I can't check.
Answer: I think that would work.
Answer: I don’t think so.
Q:

Answer: No. It's good for panfish, small trout, small bass. Dependable reel. Line would be 4lb - 8lb
Answer: Yes, it is a solid reel. Not sure about the test but I use 12 and that is fine.
Answer: Yes, I have one and have used it in Salt water several times. Works great.

Answer: 8 lb
Q:
will this work for an adult?
Answer: Absolutely. I am an adult and it is one of my favorites. Easy to cast. I use it all the time
Answer: I'm retired, and I use this reel for all kinds of fishing, from bream to pond catfish. This reel is a workhorse for it's size, it is a great reel for beetle spins on a light rod. Yes, I believe adults should encourage and use this reel.
Answer: Sure! Adult beginner or not, it would be very serviceable on a light or ultra light set up.
Answer: Sure. I picked up 2 of them for us. Haven't used them as yet. They'll be perfect for when we're out on the Jon boat. Our other spin cast reels have some age on them, and are now getting prone to malfunction. Their compact size is a novel idea, but you can't beat a new Zebco. In fact, just yesterday I picked up 2 rods for them. I'll string them when I get a minute.
Answer: Yes, this is what I have on my ultra-light rod for crappie.
Answer: Yes it will! This uses 4-6lb mono.
Answer: Perfect little machine... Bravo Zebco, always one step further... Thanks!!!

Product reviews of Zebco 33 Spincast Fishing Reel, Quickset Anti-Reverse with Bite Alert, Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears with a Lightweight Graphite Frame
Timothy : Great reel!
These reels are awesome, the workhorse of fishing reels. I’ve had many of these over the years from the micro to the jumbo and they hold up even to my kids using them which says a lot.
Roy A. West : Don't be afraid to try bigger line on it.
I have bunched of reels all the way from Abu Garcia Rocket and Shimano Stradic's and countless other reels but for the price this 33 Micro is the best you can get. I am serious about fishing and this little feel works like it's supposed to. Oh yes I also have 5 of the Zebco Bullets and I had rather use these than them. I've sent all the way up to 15 lb Berkley Big Game mono on it and it still cast like a dream. Tighten the drag all the way down and bring in some big bass. I use them for soft plastic lures mostly and they work great for skipping docks or low tree limbs. You won't be disappointed.
KP : Creek fishing
I got these for my wife and me to use while kayaking and they are impressive with long cast ability and I also put 10lb test line on them which made them even more awesome!
rjones : Low cost but works good enough
The main drive wears out too quickly second one this year, but it's small enough and casts enough string for it to be one of my main reels.
AOP Studio : Nice little light weight reel
I fish year around here in PA, mostly for trout in small streams. I actually use weighted wooley buggers with this reel on a light rod. The combination has worked very well. Yes, I can recommend this reel for light weight fishing. Probably will work fine for bass too, I just haven't tried it yet.
RobbyB : Not made to last
One of the better quality zebco's and made with more metal. But still, quality is not what it used to be. Zebco reels are not made to last...too much plastic and made in china.
Pepaw : Nice and easy
Small size makes it good for kids to learn spincasting methods. Those new to fishing will like the ease of use this feel provides. Pretty simple set up, basic entry feel for now and then anglers!
jg71 : Awesome
Great little reel. Works flawlessly.
Rebel : Disappointed
Should have listened to the reviews. This reel in no good at all . I’ve never own such a poor quality spin cast reel
Amazon Customer : Overall great reel.
The classic 33 in micro form is awesome! Great reel for kids or those of smaller stature just starting out. The only complaint would be the bait alarm switch. Engaging this switch also allows one to back reel. That's fine if you know what your doing and have tension on the line. If there is no tension, you end up with a snarled mess around the spool.
Rich & Peggy : It feels like something is rubbing or dragging against the spool
I have several Zebco 33 reels for lake fishing. I bought this one to replace an old Zebco that was literally wore out after decades of use. However, this reel does not have nearly the quality of earlier models. It reels in very rough. It feels like something is rubbing or dragging against the spool. I have dis-assembled the reel, checked for burrs, cleaned it, lubed it, sanded the retrieving surfaces with 1000 grit sandpaper, replaced the line, etc. It is still difficult and uncomfortable to use. It feels like a fish is constantly bumping the lure when retrieving line. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had a quality issue with a Zebco 33 until I bought this most recent one.
Elmer Fudd : Highly recommend
This was a gift for my son. I really like this style of reel, this was not my first one like this and my kids have less problems casting with this than the push button type. I have also cast with it and really like it. Recommend for children, beginners or fishing with ultra light poles.
Carl K. : A little disappointed; not 2016 model
The listing for this item was for the 2016 model; I was fully aware that model might not be available, however, the new 2021 (I assume) is an excellent ultra-light trigger spin reel. That mid-2000's range of Zebco reels were really exceptional, I have several in my collection; purchased a newer platinum 33 model and it's not of the same quality, though not terrible. There's too much plastic on the outside.
This newer trigger-spin model has a small footprint; it's very compact, fits the hand nicely, and casts smoothly and far. Tried it on the lawn with about a 1/4" teardrop weight and it casts really far. Used a 1/16 spinner bait this morning at the park pond and it did pretty well casting that light weight. The line, 4 lb test clear Cajun seems to be good quality monofilament line.
I'm overall happy with the purchase; however, I'll have my eye out for an old stock 2016 or so ultra-light Zebco triggerspin reel
Jack Thorne : NOT UP TO ZEBCO STANDARDS
This reel appears to be cheaply constructed. The cover was glued on with only a dab of adhesive and comes off with practically every cast.
Dustan : Its about Trout!
Ok, so its not a Penn, Shimano or Abu Garcia. But, Zebco is the go to reel for the average fisherman. Its affordable and is good quality. Yes, they do only last a couple years. But, still a good buy. This reel on a ultralight pole is a killer combination for trout. Clean, and oil after each fishing trip and it will last you. I have 3 of these, I keep on in my Jeep, one in my car and have one for backup. Its a must have if you fish for trout. Ive caught Large mouth Bass on it. Only downfall is if you have big hands. Its pretty small and awkward.
Fish Master : Shitty as hell
Yea I thought zebco would be alright I remember fishing with these reels a long time ago but now they’re trash. I got this reel and first of all it makes a scraping noise when I reel it in right off the bat and the anti reverse is a joke it rotates almost a full turn before catching. So in conslusion it’s a complete piece of garbage
G. Brant : Not Wonderful
After using the reel I am mostly disappointed. It really twists the line and during casting it often stops the line from spoiling out, resulting in the lure not reaching the target. It is small and light weight. I would not recommend it. Wish I could return it.
Rod : Great reels.
Excellent reels. I use these for years. No problems with the line getting tangled.
Will buy again.
Amazon Customer : Great little reel
Use this reel when kayak fishing for smallmouth and bluegill as i got tired of dealing the spinning reel tangles. Always remember to check your drag (not one of the reels strong points) and you can easily handle a 3 lb fish. An 8 lb catfish, caught while throwing a very small crankbait for bass, is my record with this reel.
LLP : Okay quality reel, Purple color is great
I have had several Zebco 33's over the years.
I have never had a problem from any of them.
First thing I usually do is replace the line with a better quality line that I prefer.
This one looks great, It does not cast as smoothly as older models.
But it works okay for the price.
The purple color looks good.
Stephen S. : Broke after a few uses
Used a couple times and the reel broke. Customer service repaired it and sent it back but doesn’t give me a good feeling about the durability but what can you expect from a cheap reel. I will say the drag is a lot better than other cheap push buttons
Darryl : #Goodbuy
My girlfriend's fishes with these close face pose and she loves very easy very lightweight catch 6,7 pound catfish no problem
rjones : Low cost but works good enough
The main drive wears out too quickly second one this year, but it's small enough and casts enough string for it to be one of my main reels.
Corey M : Great inexpensive reel
Push button reels are the easiest for kids to learn on. Where we fish, there are a lot of chain pickerel and my sons rod gets banged around a lot when we kayak fish. This one stands up the the trashing it takes. The line that comes prespooled was taken off for a heavier test. If you have kids that or a wife that are uncomfortable with a spincast or baitcaster, these reels are simple to use and rarely ever get snags.
HJ Simpson : Cheaply Made Garbage
I wasn't expecting much for the price, but it was worse than my already low expectations. After a few uses, the spool separated inside the housing. Even after I managed to get the line untangled, it was impossible to put the housing on correctly since the cheap slider tabs would not allow it to sit properly. I am thankful I only paid $16 to use it on a kids rod because I threw it straight in the trash. Save your money and by something better.
Gary Smith : not usable even by children
poor design and poor quality - will handle crappies up to a pound or so - anyone with average size hands will find the trigger pinching them - the trigger design is flawed causing line hang ups because the line pins are not fully retracted -
and way overpriced - shame on Zebco - a company that made the model 33 of old - don't believe the good reviews - this reel isn't worth he cost of returning - I actually fish and gave this reel a one day trial - it is junk

Amazon Customer : Poor quality and design
Poor quality and design. I didn’t expect a lot for a reel under 20 dollars but it’s worse than expected.
Amazon Customer : Overall great reel.

DesertScottAZ : Got this to replace the reel on my kid's cheapo walmart combo
This is a decent reel. Not smoot. Not the best ratio. Gets the job done. The reel we took off the cheapo combo would 'snap out' of casting mode and pop back occasionally so we got this and the problem is gone. I like being able to swap handle sides and it's decent for the money.
rjones : Low cost but works good enough
The main drive wears out too quickly second one this year, but it's small enough and casts enough string for it to be one of my main reels.
jg71 : Awesome
Great little reel. Works flawlessly.
Ms I : Good for fresh water
It is good for fresh water. Simple to use. The line is light weight so it might need changing. It is great for smaller pan fish but not for over big fighting fish like cat fish or bass. Took it trout fishing and it worked good girl pan size trout.
M Lovelady : Good reel, but be prepared to respool the line
The reel seems to be of good quality, especially for the price. However, I had expected to simply replace a bad reel on a dock demon combo. But I found that the fishing line in this reel would constantly break. I removed the last 5 feet and it still broke. I kept repeating this process until I hopefully found some solid line that wouldn't snap, to no avail. Had to remove all of the fishing line that came in this reel and buy some new line. Just a heads up, be prepared for this possibility.
Mike : It will cast light weight lures far.
I liked how far it could cast a light weight lure. I also liked how I could put the crank on the left side (even though I'm right handed it makes more sense, no swapping the pole from hand to hand). I love my baitcaster but it can't cast light weight lures that's why I got this reel.
Swann : Made in a foreign country crap
Casts just fine. Doesn't reel in. Cheap 10 lb test line broke two different times, once losing the fish and a lure. J will never buy another Zebco reel until they're made in the USA again.
Timothy : Great reel!
These reels are awesome, the workhorse of fishing reels. I’ve had many of these over the years from the micro to the jumbo and they hold up even to my kids using them which says a lot.
David N. Westfall : Quality that you expect from this brand.
I bought this reel for my 13 yo granddaughter to replace an "entry level" reel she had been given which did not hold up under even light use. Based on my experience with other Zebco 33's I expect this one to serve her well for many years to come.
Bino : I did change the line 8lb test and took it ...
I did change the line 8lb test and took it out to a small lake near the house..I worked fine
Timmo Gee : Zebco 33 Authentic Spincast Reel
I've used a number of Zebco 33 reels for over 40 years. Simple and easy to cast. Great for most freshwater fishing.
The Zebco 33 is the classic spin-cast reel...and the best selling for good reasons.
senior_geek_cs_grad : This reel serves as my retrieval system for a throw ...
This reel serves as my retrieval system for a throw weight launched via slingshot over tree branches. I attach the throw weight to a light rope then reel the KastKing FluoroKote Fishing Line until the throw weight returns from the tree branches to the reel. I use this for mounting wire antenna dipoles.
Steve Cavender : Great Reel for Larger Fish
So far a great reel; however, I recommend changing the line to a monofilament line with less "memory". The line that came on the reel was quite "kinky" after my first fishing trip. I use Trilene/Berkely "Big Game" for all my reels. It is high quality at a reasonable price.
Amazon Customer : Very good micro-reel
This is a micro reel I use with my ultra-lite tackle. I have 3 other set-ups with this reel and I love ‘em. Excellent for pan-fish, trout, etc.
prescottkid : Zebco is the best
Great long lasting product. Mostly the same quality as years past but better than that cheap junk at walmart. I highly recommend these for an economical reel that will last many years.
Oscar A Wiggy : great product for the money
i needed a reel that was a little heftier than a ultra-light and this was the perfect solution. pulled in multiple 14 inch large mouths with ease.
Stephen Drappi : Not great
Purchased the reel for use on vacation. Worked good day 1, by the end of day 2 the reel was jamming up, by day 3 it would not cast anymore and the spool become tangled inside of the housing. Could not fix the item. I guess you pay for cheap, you get cheap results.
Graysteel : Worst reel I have ever owned
If I could return it I would. Took it out, casting is rough line gets stuck inside. trying to reel it in it grinds sounds like sandpaper inside drag setting is no help. What happened to the Zebco reels I used to love?
E. John Tollard : Broke
I was happy with the fast delivery . But that’s about it . I’ve had it for 10 days and has nothing but trouble with it . The line skips if you have a small fish on it . And the line release broke . I have bought this same one in the past . And was happy with them . But now I’m not . Would not buy again
