Answer: 20lb line is probably to much for this reel. It is recommend to use 4-10lb line. You might be able to use 12lb and get lucky

Answer: Thank you for your question. There is no specific difference between both the models. The minor differences include the colour variations and the die cast real handle material.

what is the difference between the 808 and the 888?

Have a 33 new reel why does the line keep coming out after you push button and reel after it clicks.

Answer: The way the reel works is that when you push the button the mechanism that “grabs” the line releases making a click sound and the line is able to come out. To reengage the line you turn the handle and the mechanism will click again as it “grabs” the line back. If you are trying to cast simply push and hold the button all the way in swing your arm and let go of the button when you want to release the line.

Answer: Louann; when you press the button to release the line, you must hold the button down until midway through your cast, then release the button, otherwise you will have fishing line all over the place. Hope this is helpful.

Answer: The only thing I can suggest is to tighten the drag.

Does the Platinum replace the 33SS? will it hold up in salt water?

Answer: I just used two of the Zebco 33's in Hawaii surf fishing everyday for 16 days. I was pelted by waves and never stayed dry during those times. I didn't stay on top of cleaning my reels real well and had some issues due to the salt but when I got home I greased and cleaned them inside and out and they looked and performed good as new. For the price I knew the risks but they performed great and I caught well over 100 fish while I was there! I since have taken them both pier fishing in Santa Cruz and they were fine!

Answer: I have the purple Zebco 33 (looks pink to me) It actually was my favorite of the two and had less issues while I was there!

can you use braided line

Answer: Zebco advises that you go heavier with braided line. Ex. for 606 that comes with 20# mono, use no lighter than 30# braid. Next question is what kind of braid. Zebco sells the 808 for bowfishing with 80# and 200# Dacron line. We used Dacron way before bass anglers needed fandango "SpiderWire" etc. (polymer type braided), Dacron is huge next to other polymer braids but for Zebco that is apparently the trick. FYI, in case you hear talk about it, there is no such thing as Monofilament braid. Fishing line is either one or the other.

Answer: We took 5 of these to Canada on a trip with clients, one of them did use a light thin braided line and while it did not cast as far as mono, it did work!

Answer: The original "33" made in USA is the best; mine lasted me 30 some odd years and is still operable, the only reason I replaced it was that the retrieve time was too long because of worn parts. When I can find nos parts to repair it, I will go back to using it.

Can the Zebco 33 Platinum handle 17-20lb mono line or would I be better going with a 33 Max Gold with that line weight?

Answer: three things about 33 . I have use them for creek fishing for 20+ years stay with 15lb or under on line. spider line and braid does not work . with braid first time you catch a fish pull on line braid digs into spool. florocarbon tangles all the time. the 33 are made for mono

Answer: I've used 17lb mono line once with this reel, it worked fine. I don't think it is ideal though. This reel is nice because it has a very fast gear ratio for a spin-cast, so that might outweigh other reels you might consider using heavier line with.

Answer: This real is quiet well built and durable. I use four of them two of them are on pan fish, crappie rods and two of them are on heavy catfish rods. No problems with either set up. Good real at a good price.

I should have read more of the reviews for the Zebco 33 Platinum 4.:1 5 Ball Bearing Spincast Reel. As others mentioned the box was beat up, problems with line release, and issues with the release button and crank. Also the front cover assembly was stuck on and wouldn't come off. I called Zebco about the front cover being stuck on and they suggested putting the reel in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes which didn't help. I returned the reel for credit and my suggestion is go with the Zebco 33 which works just fine for half the price. Where is the Quality Control and why was this item listed as Amazon's Choice?

I purchased 6 for my grand kids this Christmas, they all seemed to work well out of the box. The two that we actually got wet did a great job on Mackerel in the 1 to 1 1/2 pound range which made the 4 year old twins very happy. My experience with Zebco goes back about 40 years to the Zebco 1, a great all around reel that I wish were still available. The 33 Platinum is smooth and solid with the ability to change crank sides.(turned out to be important as the twins are one of each).

Used this all summer. Catfish, bass, walleye (my first), panfish. Worth every penny. Smooth, long-casting, old school Zebco quality. Have it mated to a 7 foot medium action rod and that seems perfect for it. Only drawback for me is the placement of the drag adjustment. With my admittedly peculiar way of holding reels, I brush across it and change the setting sometimes. Not really the reel's fault.

I purchased this new Zebco 33 to replace my old Zebco 33 that was manufactured in the USA over 40 years ago. The older Zebco 33 still works but it's worn out and ready for the display shelf after years of catching many large mouth bass over 6 pounds.
The test is coming soon on this newer version; I rated it rather good only because I've always had good results from owning Zebco's over the past 50 years. I've already paired it to a cherrywood rod and put the swimbait on the hook; I'm ready to go!

DO NOT BUY!!! I never give 1 star reviews. I'd give this ZERO stars if allowed. The reel retrieve felt rough right out of the box. The line appeared to be very old so I blamed it on that. I used it ONE TIME and it completely blew apart. Line would no longer pick up, and anti reverse would not engage. I never even caught a fish on it, used it two hours. Today is June 18, 2019. I ordered it May 15, 2019 so it's outside the return window.

I bought the Zebco 33KPL, 10C,BXG,Platinum 5-Ball Bearing Spincast Reel on 4/19/19 and on 7/28/19 the crank/handle busted off! I was bank fishing and had cast my line out and began to retrieve my lure when I look down and had the handle in one hand and my fishing pole in the other hand. I am an amateur/weekend bass fisherman so this reel was not being overworked and should definitely have held up longer than 3 months!!

When I ordered this reel it was to replace a 20 year old plus Zebco 33 that I wore out from trout fishing over the years. I mounted this on the fishing rod and proceeded to replace the 10 lb test line that came pre-spooled on this reel with 6 lb test. I'm not gigging the 10 lb test line, I just like lighter line for the smaller trout in my area. First time out with this reel, I caught 4 trout with no problems aside from it being a little stiff. The next trip I caught 5 more trout and things were a lot smoother as the reel was finally getting broke in.
