Questions about Piscifun Phantom Baitcasting Reel - Carbon Fiber Frame and Plates Baitcaster Reel, 5.7oz Lightweight, 7.0:1 Gear Ratio Dual Brakes Baitcast Fishing Reels
Q:
How does the phantom perform in salt water?
Answer: I would not use this reel in saltwater. It is designed for use in lakes. There are baitcasting reels made for use in saltwater.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Have not had the opportunity to fish salt water yet
Answer: I dont know about salt water holding up good fishing the lakes and rivers around me
Answer: It's fine in saltwater. I've been using it on beaches and piers since March with no issues. Just rinse the spool after your outings and don't do anything careless like dunk it or drop it in the sand.
Answer: I don't know as im in Indiana.
Q:
Would this stand up to Lake Trout or Salmon jigging?
Answer: Much as I love this reel, I do not think I'd use it for deep water jigging.
Answer: Really not sure I have been using 15lb brade catching 8 lb. Large mouth. No problem hooked into a 14lb channel cat handled it with ease has a great drag system. Hope's this helps.
Answer: no way... its a plastic Chinese reel
Answer: This thing will handle a small shark if need be. What matters are your skills as an angler.
Answer: Definitely
Q:
can i use light lures with this? anywhere between .1 oz and 1 oz
Answer: I’ve used it to cast down to 1/4 ounce poppers
Answer: The lightest I would throw would be an 1/8th ounce.
Answer: Yes I use mine for worms and jigs
Q:
How do you get the sideplate off to adjust the centrifical brake setting
Answer: I use this reel very little since I received it. To many backlashes! Only adjustments I found for centrifical brake system is on the outside. Haven't looked on the inside.
Answer: There's a botton on the sideplate, please try to press it while spin the sideplate, then you can take it off. Hope this helps. :)
Answer: Small tab on magnet side if reel. Easy to take off puch tab and twist side plate. Don't drop it tho as it's not captured/attached like some other reels. Well worth the money may buy couple for my kids
Answer: Pull
Q:
I have 15 lb berkeley trilene big game mono, anyone using this type of line or larger on their reel and how is it working for you?
Answer: I use 12 lb. floro with mine, used 17 lb. for a while but just didn't need that heavy of a line. As long as your rod can handle it the larger line just cuts your casting distance down.
Answer: I’ve used 15lb flouro and worked and now have 30lb braid now and works fine
Answer: i use braid , but that 15lb will be fine
Q:
What test line are people using? everytime i try an overcast i ge backlash but im using 17lb spiderwire
Answer: I use 40 lb Power Pro braided line or 12 pound mono inside break set at 2 outside brake set at 7 I have 3 Phantom reels. They're all about the same. I don't even have to use my thumb to stop it. It will not backlash. Excellent baitcasting reels and they cast far. When you start to use your thumb more the real will cast even further. And you can ease off the brakes.
Answer: I use 17lb, 15, and even 50lb braid. I pretty much throw all types of line sizes but I only throw pline or power pro. Personally I've never been a fan of spider wire. Maybe try switching up the line or adjusting your brakes/spool tension.
Answer: If you have not set the internal brake pull the side cover off by pull the little switch on the side and twist the cover down and pull off set the internal brake on 3 place the cover back on and twist back into position set the out side brake on 5 make a cast and see if that helps .You should be on track with that .The Phatom is the sweetest reel I've ever used been at it for 40 some years.Tight lines
Answer: I use an 8-Strand Braided Line of 30# test, and have no problems casting 1/4 to 3/4 oz. lures. The Type of line makes a LOT of difference (I also use a 20# leader, about 6 or 8 feet long, too!). Only thing you have to do, is re-set the outside brake, when changing lure weights. LOVE this reel, and ordering 2 more.
Answer: I typically use 12lb fluorocarbon on this reel. It really sounds to me like the brakes need to be re-adjusted. Do not forget that there is centrifugal brakes located on the inside of the reel behind the face plate, and also the magnetic brakes which are visible from the outside. When you say overcast i'm assuming you mean overhand vs side arm, when casting over your head most people don't realize you're actually casting a bit harder so your cast control knob and brakes may need to be a touch tighter than normal if using this method.
Answer: I am using Piscifun brand 20 and 30lb line have had no issues. be sure to set the brake system on the spool and not just the magnetic.
Answer: I'm using 40lb braid on a 7'4" heavy rod and I don't get any backlash
Answer: This is a problem with how you have the reel tuned. Pop off the side plate exposing the centrifugal brake on the spool click it to two. Tighten the cast control knob and lift your intended bait in the air. Put reel in free spool, slowly back off the cast control knob until your bait begins a slow controlled decent. Then I usually put my magnetic drag to half way. I take several cast and adjust/turn off magnetic & centrifugal brands untill I get the best cast distance.
Q:
Will this cast light lures well? 1/16 lures? I have a capable rod and looking for a reel
Answer: That’s kinda light I feel 1/8 would be the lightest. You may be able to go 1/16 with 4lb or 6lb test. I really think it’s a awesome reel for the price can’t beat it.
Answer: To be completely honest I don’t think that it will. I’ve had my phantom reel for almost a year and it has become the best reel I have ever owned and I have some pretty expensive “Lew’s” reels and they don’t perform half as good as this one but the phantom starts to lack in performance at around 1/4 oz lures????????It casts the best when using 3/8 oz lures.
Answer: I use 1/16 bigheads with a light 3" soft plastic paddle tail lure for Speckled Trout and I love this reel. Hope that helps with your question.
Answer: for such a lightweight lure, i presume you are also using light weight line...my opinion is you might rather consider a smaller spinning reel.
Answer: That I am not sure of but it's my favorite reel and very adjustable. I have some very expensive reels but because this one is lightweight I use it the most.
Q:
Can this reel be used for saltwater fishing?
Answer: Yes, it could be used for small saltwater fish.
Answer: That is what I am using it for.
Answer: Yes it can be
Q:
A refund because it did not show up
Answer: Amazon is a great company. Just contact them. They'll take care of you.
Answer: AMAZON WILL HANDLE THAT NO PROBLEM , GO TO YOUR ORDER PAGE
Answer: I would contact customer service.
Q:
What technique is this reel best for?
Answer: I wouldn't recommend piscufun for any application. the one I received had a broken clutch and was completely unusable. I would recommend spending another 20-30 and getting a aluminum framed reel from a major manufacturer. shimano slx, lews lfs daiwa feugo, or abu revo x are some great choices for just under $100
Answer: It's a bait casting rod. Once you are use to using it you may not use a spinning reel again. I use it for fresh water fishing using all kinds of worms, baits,, and lures. It is more accurate in casting. I just purchased this reel and found it to be just as good as other reels that are ore expensive. Time will tell on how long it will last, but so far so good. I have read that you have to oil this reel more often.
Answer: Because the reel is very well tune; I have been using it as my Light Worm set-up; I throw weightless Senkos, Wacky Rigs and Neko Rigs on a 6'8 MED/X-Fast Rod with 10lbs. Floro. I have not ha a single problem with tis setup.
Answer: Well I have it loaded up with 15lb brade and 8lbs florocarb. Pulling med and large chatter baits. Also topwater frogs so heavy hauling.
Q:
If there's a newer model of this reel which is supposed to be better, why does this one cost so much more?
Answer: I’m guessing because of being built with carbon fiber
Q:
what is the clicker tension knob used for?
Answer: I am assuming you mean the magnetic brakes on the side opposite the crank. It is used to prevent backlashes due to wind. The star drag is on the crankshaft and the spool tension is on the same side as the crank. You set the drag based on the line strength, you tighten the spool tension until there is less than a millimeter of side to side movement of the spool, and I assume this is your first baitcasting reel so I would start with the magnetic brakes set fully on, then back them off slowly.
Answer: The tension knob you use to set up each lower drop speed unless they weigh the same weight. And then you don't have to do it. Helps prevent backlash
Answer: ONE IS FOR DRAG , OTHER TO BALANCE YOUR CASTING FOR LURE WEIGHT
Q:
Can I get a replacement cover for the left hand phantom?
Answer: It has a one year warranty on it. Mine was messed up and they replaced it. Free of charge
Answer: I’d say email the seller and see if it’s somethibg they have as an offsite option to purchase.
Q:
Will the Right Handed model be coming out anytime soon?
Answer: don't buy this reel. it is total junk and will not hold up
Q:
Can I use the spool from the phantom x in the phantom carbon?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does it have much play in the gears?
Answer: this is a real sweet reel , great quality and light , I love it , I would have to answer no to play in gear ,
Q:
doesn't want to cast far 65lb line 3/8oz lure, internal on 1 and mag on 1 doesn't seem to want to spool out. Any help?
Answer: Why are you using 65 lb. braid and a 3/8 oz. lure? nothing but a spinning reel will cast that and then only 10 ft. Bigger lure or lighter line.
Answer: What are you trying to catch a whale? String is way too large The highest braided line I put on mine is 40. Mono about 14 The heavier the line The less distance it will cast.
Answer: Unless you're using braid that's a large diameter line that will affect casting distance. Also, if you're using a fast action rod it will affect your distance. Try a moderate action with more parabolic bend. Final note, did you try loosening the spool tension knob?
Answer: You may check the rod. Is it medium-heavy or medium, or medium-light. I had to go to a medium light rod when using the heavier weight braided line. On two other rods/reels, I went to 30 lb. Line.
Answer: FIRST YOU HAVE TO OIL THE REELS , FROM PISCIFUN, LOOK ONTHE SIDE ,TO OPEN UP ADJUST THE BRAKE SYSTEM,
Q:
I just used this reel for the first timeyesterday and i get a loud screeching noise when i go to cast at any decent distance. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I had this issue once when it was brand new and I had to take the end cap of and wiggle the pinion gear with the spool shaft. After that there was no issue.
Answer: I would put a drip of oil on the bearings and try that.
Answer: Yeah, save up your $ and buy a Shimano!
Q:
I have 3 of these reels in left hand. I lost the side cover to one. Can I get a replacement?
Answer: Go on to the website and search parts in search bar if you do not find your specific reel please call Piscifun directly
Answer: Try emailing the company, they may send you a replacement.
Answer: Contact Piscifun directly for parts
Answer: Call Piscifun and ask.
Q:
Does this reel come in right hand?
Answer: It will be available soon. Please check it out later
Q:
I have been watching this reel for a bit but I never see it available in right hand retrieve. Is that going to come back?
Q:
do I need to oil the the Phantom reel before using?
Answer: Generally there is no need to oil the Phantom reel before using. It will be better to add the oil on the side plate bearing and pinion gear.
Answer: I did not need to oil before using.
Q:
Does this take the same spool as the Phantom X?
Answer: close but not the same. phantom will hold about 40 YDS more line
Answer: I'm not sure, but I think it does
Q:
Does anyone know how to access the magnetic brake & make adjustments ? I know it's behind the centrifugal brake inside the cover.
Answer: Press against the small protruding lever located at the bottom and forward area of the left side cover (right hand retrieve) while rotating the cover counter clockwise. I got mine off but it was quite difficult as there's not much to press against, the locking lever that is. Once it rotates, pull it straight outward. Replace in the opposite method by reinstalling the cover in the rotated position and the rotate clockwise back to its flush position. The small lever will lock it.
Answer: The Phantom is a dual braking baitcasting reel . You adjust the magnetic brakes by turning the dial on the non handle side of the reel. You adjust the centrifical brakes by removing the non handle side plate and turning the dial that's attached to the spool. Hope this helps.
Answer: Dakota, what kind of adjustment are you wanting to make? To access the magnets just remove side plate to pull off magnets just remove the two philips screws.
Answer: The dial/ adjustment knob is on the outside. That adjusts how close the internal magnets are to eachother. The lower the number the further apart they are.
Q:
Could you use six lb line on this reel?
Answer: You sure can. You can use 20 lb if you wish. Be sure to set the centrifugal brake to 3 and then work with the magnetic brake from there. This will help you from too much backlash when first trying it out. These are great reels for the money. I own 9 of them. Good luck ????
Answer: Yes you can just make sure to adjust the brake on the side of the reel and the knob on the right side! Tight lines brotha
Answer: Yes.
Q:
The piscifun elite is not listed on amazon? thanks.
Answer: Yes, Piscifun Saex Elite baitcasting reel have been sold out on Amazon.com.
Q:
Were are these made and does anyone have info on the company its self ?
Answer: Made in China, the one I got, the handle was junk and the threads on the shaft are sloppy and it kept coming lose. Had to lock tight the handle on. Don't care for the cast control system, its just ok. Go to the web sight for info. The Elite is a good reel, but 25 bucks more. I have 2 of them and there great. As good as my Shimonos and lighter. The Kast king Assassin turns to junk and the cast controls become erratic very soon.
Answer: The company is based out of China but they have warehouses in the US. But don’t think oh china these reels are junk. Cause they are far from junk i switched From shimano and lews 3 years ago to give these guys a shot never looked back love this company and love there reels and they save you money
Answer: I bought one and it won't cast 20 feet I do not use it get the kast king assassin
Q:
Would I be able to use it on the river for salmon fishing?
Answer: Yes but i would suggest a bigger piscifun reel for that
Q:
Is this rated for saltwater?
Answer: It is better for freshwater, we do not recommend it for heavy saltwater fishing.
Answer: Not sure I have never used it in a salt water environment.
Q:
Is this the kastking assassin from a couple years ago, but rebranded picifun? sure looks and specs seems like the assassin.
Answer: this is the exact reel but piscifun’s version????????I’ve owned the reel for about a year and I have no complaints at all! It’s a very good reel.
Q:
Would this work for float fishing steelhead ?
Answer: Not sure...never float dishes with a bait caster...I’ve used a fly fishing setup...but I’m sure you can try
Answer: Of course just make sure to set it up for the weight, great reel
Answer: absolutely! Great reel I use it for bonito and calico bass all the time.......no worries!
Answer: I would think it would be fine.
Q:
How much line are you putting on the spool? There is a ridge about halfway up the side. Also, does braid need a lot of tension when filling up?
Answer: Depends on the line selected. I used about 125 yards of 40 lb test braided line, but the documentation, which would equate to about 125 yards of 12 lb test mono. I like to slightly overfill my braid, as I've found it does get a little more compact when it gets wet. I like a full spool to achieve maximum line retrieval rate.
Answer: I use about 10 yrds of mono as a back up then fill up to about 1/8 in from top, the amount depends on what size line you use. Don't put any more tension than normal , you don't want it to tighten down on itself
Q:
I have this reel and I want to use it to fish lakes and ponds for bass use braid with a flurocarbon leader. Anyone know what weight braid and leader
Answer: Depends on what size fish and what it is you are fishing around. A lot of wood, trees, brush...go bigger, light weeds smaller rock go lighter. If you are fishing a pond that has nothing but grass and the largest fish is 2 lbs. there is no reason to use anything more than 8-10 lb. line. If it's needed then go to bigger line, bigger line can't cast as far and can hamper how the lure acts, bigger isn't always better.
Answer: I would recommend maybe an 12 lb braid with 10 lb leader.
Q:
So what is the main difference between this 69$ phantom and the 46$ phantom x and the 40$ torrent? are the internals different?
Answer: The gear ratios are all different on each one. I use the regular Phantom and have zero issues with it. Been catching nice 4-5lb bass and handles it really well.
Q:
What is the "item weight"listed below on details? is the reel 5.7 oz or 8.2 oz ?
Answer: It’s somewhere between 5.7 and 8.2.
Q:
how would this preform on the surf?
Answer: I would just use it for fresh water. It may not be strong enough for the surf????? Casting may be hard.
Answer: IT,S A WIDE SPOOL ,CAST GOOD , JUST RINSE SALTWATER OUT OF IT AFTER USE,
Q:
how do set the drag on this reel?
Answer: The star handle by the cranking handle is what you want to turn. Turn the star handle forward to tighten the drag , and turn the star toward you to loosen the drag.
Answer: Using the star knob that is right next to the reel handle. But honestly you’d be better off getting your money back and buying a kast king. I owned one of these for 8 mo the and it’s now sitting in the bottom of a lake due to the piss poor design and functionality.
Q:
What is the size of the spool bearings?
Answer: Sorry, I have not taken them out and measured them.
Q:
does this have a metal or plastic foot/cleat that attaches to the rod?
Answer: it is not metal. the reel is a molded carbon. the cleat is part of the reel.
Q:
Can this reel 1.5 oz lures ?
Answer: I bought it for ultra lite bait!
Answer: With 17lbs of drag power...this reel can handle it! I do use this on a flipping/pitching rod setup...on occasion I have flipped 1.5oz with 60lbs braid no problem
Answer: Yes it can
Q:
Where are they made?
Answer: It is an American company, but I’m not sure where the reel is made. It is very nicely made where ever it is made. For the price I don’t think you can beat it.
Answer: China.....however the quality is right there with the bigger brands who's reels are made in the same country.
Answer: China as are most reels.
Answer: I believe China like everything else ????
Answer: China
Answer: Nice equipment out of China.
Answer: In a factory
Q:
Is the reel seat metal or plastic?
Answer: It’s made out of lightweight carbon. It’s an impressive reel. Piscifun reels have served me well.
Answer: Its carbon, so I guess that would fall under "plastic" as it is not metal.
Answer: Plastic
Q:
I currently own a torrent and use it for freshwater, sometimes for salt. Im wondering if the Phantom would be better suited for salt shoreline fishing
Answer: I still say it’s better suited for fresh but I did use mine for salt during my last trip down to Florida and it held up well. Excellent reel all around
Answer: It is not a saltwater reel. Great reel for bass fishing.
Answer: USE IT ON BOTH JUST , WASH DOWN CLEAN WATER AND OIL AFTER SALTWATER USE
Q:
Any way to get the line to wind level on the spool? Line spooled a lot heavier on the right side of the spool.
Answer: I never had a problem, maybe you just don’t know how to put line on a reel
Answer: I’m sorry but I have not had that problem. Mine doesn’t appear to spool any differently that my Lews. If it’s that big problem I would return to manufacturer and ask for replacement
Q:
Im looking to do some largemouth and smallmouth fishing. Woukd this reel be of appropriate size for that?
Answer: Absolutely. The phantom is a great reel. Liked it so much I bought another one. I love how light it is. I also have the torrent and the Perseus reels. All great but this is my favorite...
Answer: Yes. This is perfect for that application. Exactly what I use it for.
Q:
The only reason I have not bought this reel is because I don't like the green color on it. Does it come in a different color?
Answer: I don't think so just green
Q:
If I use this for light saltwater use and rinse when done would this reel hold up? Currently using a scorpion idc5 for this.
Answer: No sorry I don't salt water fish.
Q:
What is the heaviest lure this reel can handle? How heavy can you go with it?
Answer: Hey bud!
Answer: It could handle about 100g lure.
Answer: It really depends more on the rod you are using. What can it handle???
Answer: I typically throw a 3/8-1/2 oz. You have to factor in the power and action(taper)of your rod as well.
Answer: Not 100% sure never threw anything over 5/8oz
Q:
Weight? 7.5 or 8.2
Answer: It’s carbon. It’s lighter than most
Q:
im trying to decide between the phantom and the torrent and am wonder if the centrifugal brake feature in the phantom is worth the extra money?
Answer: I can not say anything about the other reel, but the phantom is an awesome reel. I believe its worth the money, and has a lot of fetchers for the money. If you choose to buy the reel its best you learn all about the braking systems, it makes a differences. Also there are some videos on you tube that talk about. Make a long story short its one of my favorite reels to use.
Answer: Never fished the Torrent, but I have several of these and prefer them to most of my much pricier reels. If you're contemplating between the two, I'd say yes it's worth the extra cost. With the ultra light spool and dual brakes, these reels even excel in finesse situations where you'd normally have to reach for spinning gear.
Answer: Yes it is worth the extra money.
Answer: I have both and I love this reel much more then the torrent, cast further and the reel is lighter
Answer: I purchased this as a gift to my son. He was a beginner at bait casting and left handed. He has become pretty good at using it since. I can’t give you a direct input on its use, but he really likes using it. It has become his favorite reel.
Product reviews of Piscifun Phantom Baitcasting Reel - Carbon Fiber Frame and Plates Baitcaster Reel, 5.7oz Lightweight, 7.0:1 Gear Ratio Dual Brakes Baitcast Fishing Reels
Dwayne Barbee : Performs
Picked up The Piscifun Carbon Baitcasting Reel and loaded it with some 15lb fluorocarbon line and did some casting with it, it performed flawlessly. I set the centrifugal brakes and spool tension, then I adjust the magnetic brake based on type of cast I am using. It had zero issues using numerous weight lures and didn’t have a single issue. I bought this reel to test against the KastKing Rollyale Legend Elite and the Piscifun Carbon blew it out of the water. Both reels were used with identical rods, line, and lures. The centrifugal brake adds another level to the customization that is possible with the dual brake system. I will continue to test the two reels and add updates based on how well the reel holds up over time.
REG : great value in a fantastic reel
Watched a few youtube reviews before purchase. I had a very old 6 ft baitcasting rod to mount it on to test before investing in a new rod as well. I had not used a baitcaster in 35 years but within a half an hour and a few effortless adjustments to the internal and external brakes I was casting farther than my spinning gear and no birds nest. The reel is very smooth and quite. It is also a very good looking reel and comes with a reel cover in the box.
I should caution you that if you get snagged on something do not push the reel release with even the smallest tension on the line or ZING you will have the biggest birds nest you've ever seen. I did this twice and will not say I won't do it again this is NOT a reel problem but is an operator brain fart. Based on the quality of the reel I wanted to get the Piscisun torrent serpent 6'8" baitcasting rod to match it with but for some reason they do not offer two day Prime shipping and it takes a week to get so I did not order it.
Mesa Life : Great reel and a great price
My son, his friend and I were fishing the channel islands with the Picifun phantom reel and Picifun Torrent rod. I love fishing with light tackle but when we came across a school of white sea bass I was not sure if this set up was going to be enough to handle these fish. Well- we had 3 nice fish with the biggest being 25 lbs. This set up handled the white sea bass surprising well with the smooth drag of the phantom reel. I put 25lb. braid and a 25 lb. floro leader. I recommend this reel and will most likely buy other Picifun products. fyi- I have no affiliation with this company and am not paid to write reviews.
Amazon Customer : Better than I thought
I’ve used this reel today for the first time and compared it with my Shimano curados and castaic and also the Daiwa Tantula and this reel is more comfortable to use and would rather use this reel than the others
A. Gobin : Smooth Casting
This reel is fantastic, I will buy another for my arsenal. I used it this weekend 10/12 and it was smooth, very nice distance on my cast. I did birdnest once but was able to remove the cover and easily de-tangle the line. For the price this reel is better than most of the ones I have.
L. Brazier : Nice Reel
This reel is lightweight, smooth, and is a nice replacement for my old device. The only problem I encountered was that the mount was smaller than the slot on my rod. I have made some adjustments to make it work, but just wanted to share this experience in case you find you have the same experience. I am pleased with the reel and my purchase.
Kevin : Piscifun Phantom Great Value!
Don't know about durability yet as I just received a few days ago, but it's the lightest reel I have ever held.
Spooled up with Berkley Vanish 14lb fluorocarbon and tied on a 3/8oz sinker and had several 125ft (41yrd) cast with just a small amount of tweaking. I'm getting the same distance as my Shimano Curado 200HG K and this Piscifun Phantom is only just over $60.00 after Amazon 10% off coupon......at this price I had to give it a shot..
Paul : Outstanding reel
I bought this several months ago. The more I use it the better it gets. My other reels are Daiwa Tatula, Abu Garcia Revo SX, KastKing Legend, ... The Revo reels are my favorite. But for half the price, this reel is quickly closing the gap. The Tatula costs a lot more, magnetic brakes only, and backlashes a lot easier. The KastKing Legend is ok but not in the same level as the others. The Piscifun Phantom Carbon is great regardless of price. Factor in the price and you just can't do better. Outstanding reel and once adjusted, it's difficult to backlash. I've got the centrifugal brakes set to 2 and magnetic to just under halfway throwing a 3/4 oz bait. I can throw it long without my thumb touching the spool at all - no backlash. Mounted on a 7' Duckett Ghost.
Z.McCall : Light weight, Casts like a dream, and has not let me down!
Let me start off by saying this is my 5th Piscifun baitcasting reel I own. I currently have the Phantom, Perseus, and 3 torrents. I started off my season with the torrents and really liked what they had to offer. The only complaint I had with the reel was my own fault. I ordered 2 left and one right-handed reel. I'm right handed but fish Southpaw so grabbing the pole with the odd man out reel doesn't ruin the day but can pain when in rhythm. When I bought my cranking rod I wanted a reel with a lower gear ration and the Perseus fit that nitch perfectly. What I did not know when I ordered this reel was it had the dual braking system. Long story short...... I loved the features of the Perseus and went looking for the reel that would step up my game in the 7.1:1 ratio. That is when I found the Phantom. First thing I noticed about the reel was the look. She is matte black with a touch of green, but more of an electric seahawk ish kinda of green. Carbon fiber look on the handle and a quality looking spool with more holes drilled into than most reels. Then I looked at the price and the fight with my inner cheapskate began. I love a quality product, but in my years I have found there is cheap crap, overpriced quality, and the perfect balance between price and quality. I was skeptical about buying the phantom. I just bought the Perseus that was about $25 cheaper with similar features, and I began to wonder will this really be worth $25 more than the torrent? The Answer is yes! I knew the reel was sexy and had the sleek mean look of a big block muscle car, but I did not know realize is how light the reel was. The composite body of the reel makes this thing feel like air compared to the torrent. I have this attached to a Fenwick HMG 7' rod that had a torrent on it for the majority of the season. When I am out in the boat it is 3-10 hours of fishing at a time. When I am on the water I find myself using this rod more as I feel it less in my wrists, arms and back when casting all day. Casting is a dream I have it spooled up with 30lb braid with a fluoro leader. The dual braking system makes casting a dream. I can cast this thing a country mile when needed and still have the control to pitch n flip docks and pads. I have fewer birds nest and overrun issues with the phantom than I did with the torrent and I credit that to the dual brakes. As far as that durability of the reel I can not give an accurate report yet as I have little over a month of fishing put on this reel. The torrents have held up great as they travel in the boat when going from lake to lake or in the truck bed when pond hopping. The only damage is has been scratches in the black gloss finish. Now my only real complaint about these reels is they are lightly oiled and greased in the factory. You will want to make sure you give the bearings a good oiling prior to use. If not you may end up with a whining noise while casting. I have been told this is pretty common amongst other brands as well cause oil is flamable and international shipping etc. True or not a few drops of oil make these reels awesome.
Brian : REELY!
The price point and the quality are phenomenal! It feels a little bit like cheating when I fish with this reel. Combine it with their recommended rod and you will be a regular fish whisperer like me.
Daryl S. : Not satisfied
Looks great but two cast and on the third one it started making noise and continues to make noise and I don’t know why there’s no string caught up anywhere around the real.
Not satisfied.I did do an exchange received the new real put it on the pole went fishing and this one seems to be working just fine don’t know what was wrong with the first one but the second one seems to be working OK updated review
CYBI : Why Pay More?
I typically use $175-$200 casting reels. Most of them are Shimano Curados which I'm happy with. After reading so many positive reviews for these reels I figured I'd give one a shot paired with an old glass crankbait rod I've had laying around. It's hard to believe how nice this reel is for being less than half the price of my other reels. It is very lightweight and definitely doesn't feel "cheapy" in your hands. I love the adjustability of the reel with a nice clean clicking on all of the dials. I may change my mind at some point but at this moment I can't see myself ever paying for expensive reels again. I'd rather buy these Piscifun reels and put that extra $100+ into a lighter, more sensitive rod. If you're on the fence because you can't believe that a reel in this price range could be any good, give one a try. I think you'll be surprised.
Blia Lee : Buy one! You wont regret it.
A few months later, this has become my Go-To reel! I've had $25 baitcasters and I've had $400 baitcasters. This thing feels like a $400 reel. And performs like it too. I fill the spool up and I can cast nearly the entire spool.
As lightweight as it is, it has no problem against big bass, northern pike, catfish, even a small sturgeon.
Definitely reccomend this reel to both newcomers and OG's. And I definitely plan on getting a couple more of these!
Michael R. : Good deal
I now own 4 of these, they are about the best bang for your buck out there. I would easily recommend these to anyone wanting a good, double braking, lightweight reel that doesn't break the bank.
JD Elliott : Anti-Backlash control
I clean and repair reels. I bought one of these reels .After putting it to the test it passed with flying colors. It`s a gem of a reel. these guys finally stepped up and answered the cry for no more backlashes.this reel gets it done. Iknow own 3 and going to order 2 more.Soon i will replace all my stock with this reel. I am going to try their rods next. I am also a tournament fisherman and i know what it takes to get it done.JD
daniel kearns : Light weight
Awesome reel. Watched videos on how to set centrifugal, magnetic brake and tension. I set reel at #2 centrifugal and #1 on magnet and drop tension for plug weight. I used cast king 20 lb braided line and vendetta next generation rod medium fast 7'4. Pier fishin plugging and bottom rig fishing. I was amazed how much further I could cast than others and caught more fishing than anyone around. The action of the rod and the fast setting braid hooked fish nearly every cast and reel could haul the mail. Could pull blues, pompano, Spanish in with ease speed from ratio. I even hooked a 60 plus pound sting ray and fought with no problem and netting it in. One plus is after 4 days of fishing the light weight reel and rod was a dream. Normally my wrist would be sore with spinning reels after one day of plugging and sore for days limit my fishing but After 4 days I was shocked. I had bought 2 same set up
and buying a 3rd and 4th reel for different lure set ups so when fishing I can just pull out another setup with same reel and rod set up and not waste anytime switching lures or rigs
Taylor R. : Basically a carbon team Lew's lite for $70
For the money that this reel costs, I am extremely impressed! I have a team Lew's light that's about a $240 reel for the last 3 years. When I got this reel the first thing I noticed is that it's comparable in features, profile, and build quality. Not to mention smooth. Haven't gotten it out on the water yet, but I put it on a 6 ft 8 falcon casting rod and played with it out in the yard. Not a single hint of any kind of backlash, casted long and smooth. I couldn't believe how well this functions and the build quality is overall fabulous. Only time will tell in durability, but from this point I don't see any foreseeable issues at all.
D'Mac : Terrible service and poor build quality
Shoddy build quality, junk bearings, squeals like a pig every other cast. Sticking with Lews and Shimano from here out. Was worth a shot but poor product and service. They wanted me to ship it back to them on my dime.
John : Up your game without spending a fortune.
I Large Mouth Bass fish 4 out of 7 days a week. I have a dozen rods set up to fish specific baits. All my reels cost within +/- $30 of the price of this reel. I like a good, solid performing, dependable reel that does not cost too much. And I use the heck out of them. I waited on this one until "The Reel Test" featured it on his YouTube channel, and then I pulled the trigger. I wanted a light weight baitcaster to throw my plugs and jerkbaits. I liked the super light weight spool and dual braking system on this knowing that I would be able to ultra tune my casts. A light bait is the trickiest to throw on a baitcaster and this reel does it very well. I paired it with an Abu Garcia Ike signature model 7-3 High Strain Glass medium action delayed hook-set plug rod and spooled it with 10lb Sunline Sniper FC and it is absolute heaven to throw with this rig. The reel has a very high-precision feel- a controlled, consistent cast with a great range of adjustment. The precise whirring sound of the centrifugal brakes assures you that the dual braking system is working synergistically to give you the longest cast possible. It has a solid, smooth, silent retrieve, and an even, velvety drag action, Buy this reel and up your game without spending a fortune. I've fished it for over a month now, though harsh winter conditions, including rain, and it is continuing to perform like new.
MB : Set the internal brakes
I have tried a bunch of bait casters over the years with abysmal results. A friend was telling me about the Piscifun Phantom and how easy they are to use. I was pretty reluctant to try another baitcaster but after listening to my friend tell me how easy it is to use I decided to give a shot. After getting it and adding line I went outside and set the three brakes. Did a quick sign of the cross and casted out. Holy cow this reel casts a mile and with no back lash. It’s smooth as butter and now I can say im a baitcaster Guy. Highly recommend these reels.
Justin Gamerdinger : So light and silky smooth
First thing that comes to mind with my new phantom is the weight. At less than 6 oz I believe you barely even notice it’s there! Quality from Piscifun is never lacking and has very quickly earned my trust! New innovations in reels keep me always looking to upgrade but when it come to the phantom I’m not sure how they could improve it. I have always been scared of baitcasters because of the dreaded birds nests that occur until I discovered this. With the internal break you can literally throw the bait as hard as you want and not spend majority of your day messing with your reel! Definitely has allowed me to regain my confidence in using them and will continue to work on mastering the art of a baitcaster! Thanks Piscifun for another quality reel among a fantastic lineup you currently have available! Highly recommended if your looking for a great low profile baitcaster that will allow you to build up confidence!

Rob : I had high hopes for this reel but, it did't blow away.
Before I get started let me say that this is a pretty solid reel despite my headline opener. Things that I liked about this reel is that it casts well, its fairly light for its size, and has a good braking system which is fairly liner and easy to set up. Unfortunately some of the things that I didn't like about it was it's a bit noisy on the cast and the gears aren't as smooth as other manufactures. Lastly it just didn't fit in my hands as well as some smaller reels like the Kastking Royal Legend Elite which is in this price point or my favorite but more expensive Lew's custom speed spool. I would however recommend this reel if you're on a budget and if you have medium to large hands.
If you can jump up to the $100 level I would definitely go with out the Shimano's SLX or if you have medium to large hands Diawa's Fuego CT.
coues52 : great reel !
after reading a review on you tube I wanted to try fishing with a bait casting reel again..they gave this reel very high marks esp at this price point...and I agree 100% percent...I,m retired on fixed income so money is tight..I know their are better reels out there but as the reviewer said at this price post it,s a great value...
Denfire621 : Light as a feather
I put this reel on a Berkley Lightning Rod. This combo is incredibly light weight. I haven’t been able to take it out on the water as of yet, but I rigged it up with 30 lb Kastking braid and whipped it all over my back yard. I dialed it in with just a 3/4 oz. weight and pitched, flipped and bombed a few casts. The length is impressive and the ease of pitching and flipping is awesome! I really cannot wait to actually get it out on the water.
Jose Valdovinos : QC? What is QC?
Lightweight is the only pro I would give to the one I received.
Upon closer inspection, I found that some details on it where very poorly made. Heard several people complain about no indication on your brake settings, so what piscifun ended up doing, was just getting some cheap paint that I was able to scratch off. Lame.
Brakes where non existent out of the box. Someone decided it was a great idea apply grease to the brake pads, so yeah, they just slipped regardless of the where I set them. After a good amount of frustration, and having messed with all the adjustments, I finally started to get some braking power, this is after cleaning off grease.
Reeled in smooth, felt solid for the materials being used and that's it really. The one I got just felt okay. I don't know if I got a bad one or if that's the way these reels are, but I had far too many headaches figuring out small querks with the reel, due to qc problems.
Frank Barone : Looks great, super-light !
Haven't really had a chance to fish this reel yet. Still too cold in Southern Ontario as of April 14 2018, so my review is only based on the first impressions, and overall look, and weight of the reel.
As advertised, lightweight, very well made and visually good looking.
Everything feels quality compared to my Shimano, Daiwa reels for which I paid considerably more for. This reel will go on my med / heavy set-up, go to rod.
Will very likely buy another
J Beene : The Reel 5 Stars out of 5, The Customer Service 10 stars out of 5!
The reel is excellent lightweight and solid build. Nothing to nit pick or complain about. I definitely recommend this reel to anyone. If you have clicked on a thousand different reels already on that long difficult online journey to find the perfect reel for yourself, Just throw The Phantom Reel up to your #1 spot and give it a go. You will not be disappointed. Even if something goes wrong with your shipment or the reel on arrival (such as myself) the wonderful team at Piscifun has your back lighting fast. 4 emails and 48 hours later I had a brand new reel in perfect brand new condition. Big thanks to Piscifun customer service team, Much Appreciate the prompt and hard work! Overall experience I grade it A+.
Amazon Customer : Include oil or grease for the gears, instruction on the brake system for the “unknowns.”
The Phantom 5.7 oz. is exactly what Piscifun says it is. I use high end gear, $300.00 and up (no names mentioned) I came across Piscifun via Amazon. I believe, “YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.” I was looking for a low profile bait casting reel and was ready to spend some money, until I came across the Piscifun Phantom. WOW..! This reel is unbelieveable. The Phantom out cast’s my other reels, the retrieve is very smooth the 7.0:1 gear ratio along with the large retrieve handle makes this small low profile bait-casting reel dynamic, centrifugal brake is a great addition to long casts. Rubber thumb bar gives a comfortable feel, yet the over all lightness to this reel is remarkable, YES. I USE IT FOR DEEP SEA FISHING (not big game) and love it and my Thunder. I have captains of charter boats wanting to know what it is that I am using. I am catching: yellow tail, hailibit, bass, barracuda, lingcod, rock cod and not to mention all the attention of others. I highly recommend Piscifun for any type of a budget large or small it is a great product.
RECOMMEND: Include some grease or oil with your reels. You have a great product, protect it.. Eddie..

JR : As good or better than reels that cost twice as much
I got this reel because of the dual braking system, I just prefer all the options you get with these style brakes. The reel is smooth as you turn the handle, and the cast button is nice and solid. I have used braid up to 30 lb. and Fluorocarbon and it casts everything equally well. I have it on a 7 ft. medium rod with Moderate action and use everything from 1/8 oz. and larger. I tried it on a 6 ft. 8 in. medium light rod as a BFS setup with 8 lb. braid and 6 lb. Fluorocarbon throwing 1/16-1/8 oz. lures and it did a pretty good job. The spool is really ported and light and with the options you get with the dual braking it can do a lot that magnetic brakes are finicky with. I have caught crappie, Bass, Tiger Muskie and a few Trout with this reel, the drag is smooth and worked as iit should. I have other brands of reels that cost more, but this reel has became my go to and I will get a couple more.....
Pro's.....It's light weight over all yet solid, has a ported light weight spool, excellent dual brakes, smooth drag, large carbon fiber handle with nice grips
Con's...? I honestly can't think of any, it has done everything I have tried as good or better than most
Rimmer : Great real for the price. Very light.
I gave it a 5 star because out of the box it is all it was reported to be. Also I practiced with it in my back yard and the two brakes ( I believe they are centricical and magnetic ) seem to work well to avoid birds nests. My only complaint is that there is no manual included. You would not even be aware of the centrifugal break unless you did some research on the web or were very observant and noted the small release button on the left side. Even the you may not figure out how to adjust it. I like very much the spread of the handles and the gear ratio makes the reel very fast.

brody jacks : BEST REEL UNDER $500
This reel is UNBELIEVABLE! I can nearly cast the entire spool every time. I have now converted to this reel because it out preforms all of my Shimano and $200+ Pfluegers. It is tremendously smooth! This reel is like dream. Oh, and did I mention how light this reel is? I use this reel on my Denali KOVERT Lite. The combo put together doesn't even weigh as much as a 8oz reel! The internals of this reel are amazing! The internals are whats most important.
Dane Lee : You're missing out by not buying this.
This is a premium reel for an affordable price. You can't beat the value. I'm shocked at the price considering how well made this reel is. This reel is comparable to relatively high end brands that can go upwards to $200+
txump : light weight
Only use used it a couple times works well and is lite. im not good with the reel first time to use a bait caster.
but when i get the line out on the water reeling it is a pluse.
Wilfredo Ruiz : Great little reel for the price point.
This is an upgrade from the piscifun torrent that I also have. I love the torrent. I have put so many hours on the water with that bait caster that I thought about getting another reel and so I decided on this one, the piscifun phantom. This reel took a little getting use to. It took me a whole day or on the water just to get it dialed in just the way I like it. I think it still needs a bit more tweaking but I'm almost satisfied with the settings. I'm giving it four stars because of how tricky it is to set up. Other then that, once you get it dialed in, I feel like it's a great reel for the price point. Cannot wait to get it back out on the water. I'll continue using my torrent but this one will be a much needed tool for my tackle box. Great little reel once you get it dialed in for a great price.
Tim : Great Reel!
My son thought he wanted a baitcaster so I bought this and he just can't get the hang of baitcasters so I have since taken ownership and have fallen in love with the reel!
The casting is fantastic and just like any baitcaster once you know what your doing you won't have any trouble. This comes with time on all baitcasters.
I use this for inshore in central florida. I know it's just luck but this thing catches at least one monster everytime and some days it's the only pole I use cuz it just catches fish all day long for me.
I have landed multiple 30"+ Bull Reds and Black drum on the Piscifun phantom and it has been flawless!
Lawrence L. Talbot IV : Had some issues. Most unfortunate.
I bought this reel because it was light weight and a value for the money. It is indeed light, but I immediately started having trouble with bearing noise. I had never tried Piscifun before and was really disappointed. I returned it for a refund.
Joe Kaufman : disappointed
I am quite disappointed in this reel maybe I should have gotten the phantom x it might have been more like the reels I am used to. It appears to be a very well built reel and very light weight. I just can not get it set to where it does not overspeed. I have tried both braided line and mono and various weights still I cant make it not birds nest. I have other reels and they cast 3 times as far.

SRSJLS : Great reel; beware buying directly from Piscifun!
I bought a Phantom reel here and I received it quickly and it has been performing really well. It casts and retrieves smoothly, is easy to set-up and adjust for different baits. I can't imagine a better reel is available at this price point.
Having had this experience, I decided to try some more Piscifun products, this time from their site since they were having one of the better of their constant sales. In general, this was a mistake. First, their Elite baitcaster is hardly that; I assumed it would be better than a Phantom and boy is that not the case. It is clearly an older design and the bearings on the one I received were not nearly as smooth as the one they show spinning for a long time on their site. Mine spun for about 4 seconds as opposed to their much longer claim. Also, the centrifugal braking system is clunky and hard to adjust compared to the Phantom. The Phantom is clearly a better, newer design. Avoid the Elite! I had to send it back to some guy in TN, at my expense, to get a refund. I also ordered some fishing line and those were shipped on their own, not with the reel. As of today, I still don't have these items; they were ordered and paid for 19 days ago. I promptly received a tracking number and it said the carrier was "other" and It did not meet the profile of any carrier I know, I work in logistics, so I cannot actually track it. For the last 10 days or so, Tina, with Piscifun CS, has been asking me to wait another day or two.. I have repeatedly asked for tracking information as she claims she can see the tracking but won't actually share what it says about expected delivery.. Clearly, their system is broken. Since they control the reviews on their website, I have no other option for spreading the word to avoid ordering directly from their site. My advice is to buy Piscifun here or don't buy it at all.
Follow-up: after more than 3 weeks my 2 fishing line items arrived today. I have not had a chance to try them yet but they look to be of good quality and did finally arrive..
Mohr : One of the best reels I have owned
Honestly this one blew me away, I’ve owned reels from almost every major brand out there anywhere from $50-$250 and this sits among the best I’ve used. Well worth double the price tag. Dual braking for easy cast control, extremely lightweight, strong, and won’t let you down. Will be buying more.
Chris Malaqui : Noisy!!!
After a few hours of use the gear started to make some grinding noise. Its not the pleasant reel spinning noise. There were times that the reel did not engage after the cast when it was reeled. I may have gotten a poor product compared to others, but its not worth getting another one to see if it will fail. I'm pretty sure it will fail, its just a matter of time.
Jartur* : Amazing! I can't find another adjective
Amazing! I can't find another adjective! To be honest I bought this reel thinking that for the price it would be a backup reel, but when I had it in my hands it was a complete shock! First of all the quality, then the lightnes, runs very smoothly I understand the ball-bearings are Japan made. Its performance is incredible, actually casts further than more expensive reels. Finally an advise, you need to have some experince with this kind of reels, it has double breaking system, a magnetic one and a centrifugal one. So is like riding a bycicle for the first time, it may take some time to learn how to match them in a correct way, no more than an hour. But once you get it PURE ENJOYMENT! I mention this because if you don't have experience setting these two breake systems in the same reel, it will take you a little bit more time, just a matter of practice. I'm plannig to buy one more phantom reel for sure and maybe another piscifun model.
Randerson : An easy bait caster for an amateur to master
I love my new Piscifun Phantom bait-casting reels. They appear to be quality but more importantly are surprisingly simple to set up and cast even for a rookie baitcaster. I’ve never really bought any baitcasting reels because the few times I’ve tried them I became a backlash king. But after watching some great videos on this particular reel on how to set the drag and brakes I’m casting like a pro. I fly fish and have dozens of spin casting rigs but I’ve now joined the ranks of baitcaster aficionados. Reasonably price, smooth, handsome and I can toss it a mile....I’m a happy fisherman, look out redfish!
Fernando Caraves : The Brakes def need some adjusting.
The magnet brake has a huge jump from 0 to 1, it def prevents a birds nest but good luck casting anything a good distance. If I have the magnet brake at zero I have to put the tension knob very tight and still thumb the spool in order to get some good distance. And I've been using baitcasters a good while, Its smooth but the castability due to the brakes and tension knob sucks. I have a kastking spartacus and the magnet brakes are significantly better than this reels. Some fine tuning with the spartacus and and you will literally never throw a birds nest. Dissapointed with this reel based on the price and performance.
paul : Casts fine
Light weight reel, once set up properly I was able to cast good distances without nesting. Plenty of drag for the kind of fishing I do (mainly Bass). The reel was pretty smooth operating, handles were decent. Seems to be a good value for the budget conscious angler. I spooled it with 20lb braid. I have other more expensive reels (Curado DC, Metanium, Tatula) that feel less expensive than the Piscifun but cast about the same.
i am not sure about the durability as i have not fished with it enough
