Choosing The Correct Size Ceymar Spinning Reel For Your Fishing
Choosing The Correct Size Ceymar Spinning Reel For Your Fish
The smallest Ceymar in the family, the C-10 is perfect for 2- to 6-pound test fishing line. A great choice for fishing trout, crappie, bluegill, sunfish and small perch where larger gear can easily over power fish. Pair it with an ultra-light fishing rod for a great combination. The C-10 is also a great choice for small ice fishing outfits.
C-30, C-40: Versatile Freshwater Performers
These intermediate sizes suite the vast majority of anglers that fish for bass, walleye, steelhead, carp, catfish and more. The 30 size is more for finesse applications like drop-shotting bass or jigging walleye with 6- to 8-pound line. The 40 size has larger capacity, for bigger lures and fish like steelhead and catfish with 10- to 12-pound line.
C-55: Great For Inshore Saltwater Fishing
The 55-size spinning reel offers a lot of versatility in inshore saltwater environments. Striped bass, snook, redfish, shallow water bottom fish are all in the wheelhouse of this highly capable reel. It will hold roughly 240-yards of 15-pound monofilament line. Many will fish this reel with 20- to 30-pound braided lines.
C-65: Pier, Jetty & Big Water Fishing
At the 65-size, Ceymar reels come equipped with oversized Ergo Grip for exceptional cranking power. It's the reel of choice for bigger water applications where a lot of line capacity is necessary. In saltwater, the C-65 will be great for fishing over reefs or casting long distances from piers and jetties. In freshwater, this reel will often be fished for catfish in big rivers and lakes.

Questions about Okuma Ceymar Spinning Reel
Q:
How much 12lb mono can it hold
Answer: The C-30 will only hold about 80yds of 12lb mono. I would suggest a bigger size reel if you are going to use such thick diameter line.
Answer: C-30 can hold 145 yd of 8 lb mono. If you want a to use 12 lb. you can get the C-40. I am using a 40 sized reel and it holds about 160 yd of 12 lb mono.
Answer: Not sure I only use braid and was able to spool 150yds of 10lb test.
Q:
I have a 9 ft ugly stik rod and i plan on doing catfishing plus saltwater, would the c-55 be good?
Answer: The C-55 is a good size. If you are using straight mono, i would suggest going to a 65 or possibly an 80 for more line capacity.
Q:
Is all models both left and right hand retrieve?
Answer: Yes
Q:
How do you tighten the collapsible handle?
Answer: I believe you just tighten up the knob on the other side of that reel
Answer: Tighten by spinning the reel like your reeling in and hold the other side of the mechanism.
Answer: I just tightened up the nut on the right side.
Q:
Can you use spectra or braided fishing line with this Okuma Ceymar C-65 reel ?
Answer: Just put some electrical tape on base of spool to help the braided love need grip it. That will allow you to use braid with any reel out there.
Answer: I don't see why not. I use braided on my c-55.
Q:
Is this reel like a perfect middle for a rod. I do large mouth bass freshwater fishing and j dint want to buy a oversized reel. Is the c30 good
Answer: The C30 is sized more along the lines of a normal size 2 reel. The line capacity might be a little higher than some size 2 reels but the actual size is similar. I wanted a larger reel for walleye and bass and got the C30 thinking it was a larger size. This reel is so smooth and clean to use I was more than happy with it. I pulled it apart and greased/oiled it farther then factory lube and it blows me away with its smoothness and ease.
Answer: the okuma c30 is perfect.....my favorite of 5 reels i bought this past winter.....( 2 pflueger presidents, 1 shimano, 1 mitchell 300 and the okuma c30 )....my buddies love it too....just the the right size for my fenwick med. light rod .......and the reel runs very smooth
Answer: Yea. I got this and I do bass fishing. It's not my main go to anymore but I do love this reel. I've caught hundreds of fish on it up to 5lbs and just now am thinking of oiling it. Worth it.
Answer: Line capacity and drag are right on spot for bass fishing. I have spooled this reel with different lines and the sweet spot (for finesse) has been 6 lb Seaguar red fluoro. This reel matches very well with different rods too, from 5'6" light up to 7' medium. Great reel, best value in this size
Answer: Hi John, it's pretty small (smaller than I thought it would be) and most likely fine for fresh water bass fishing. Not big enough for stripers which I'm after. Ernie
Q:
Would the C-30 be too big for my 6' ultra light rod? I'm used to having those tiny crappie reels but am not sure if this reel would be too big?
Answer: The C-30 can be used with an ultra light rod. It will hold a large amount of 2 and 4 lb line. I would fill half of the spool with backing to avoid wasting line.
Answer: In my opinion it would not be too big. I use this as an ice fishing reel, but I would also use on my ultra light for trout fishing.
Answer: When you put it on the rod it will look too big, but when you start using it you will find that it is really not too big.
Answer: No Just to put into a vision. I have it on a 4.6 ugly stik elite ultra light
Answer: i personally think a 30 would work great for what your doing.
Q:
can this be used left handed too?
Answer: Yes, right or left handed.
Answer: Yes right or left handed
Answer: Yea, both left or right!
Answer: Yes, just unscrew the handle and switch sides
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Would the c-30 be good for smallmouth bass?
Answer: Yes completelly agreee. Is an awesome device very smooth light weight very good quality..
Answer: Has worked great. Used on last two trips. Very smooth reel. Highly recommend.
Answer: Probably too much reel
Q:
how many ounces does the c30 weigh?
Answer: Very light
Q:
Is the knob on the handle round or is it more oblong?
Answer: Hi there, the handle oblong, :)
Answer: The handle is round.
Answer: It's round.
Q:
what is the length of rod should I use with C-65?
Answer: Choose a rod that balances with the reel. Do this: take ur reel to the store & pick a rod u like & install the reel. Put ur index finger under the very front of the reel & hold it up. If it balances then that's the rod for that reel. If the store won't let u try, go somewhere else.
Q:
What is the weight of the reel itself?
Answer: Not sure the exact weight. Good and light though. If you need exact weights your not looking in the right area for a reel.
Q:
What is the line capacity of the 65?
Answer: If you go to this link and look under C-65 then under the column "Monofilament line capacity" or "Braided line rating" you will see the capacity of the spool e.g 260 yards of 20lb monofilament and so on. https://www.okumafishing.com/en/product/ceymar-spinning-reel.html
Answer: This is impossible to answer without knowing the diameter of line you want to use. Refer to manufacturers web site.
Answer: Lbs/yds 12/430 15/310 20/260.
Q:
What's the max amount of line the spool can take
Answer: It depends directly on the size/diameter on the line. Braided line will give maximum capacity.
Answer: It depends on the diameter of the line you put on it. Go to this link to see. http://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/reels/spinning-1/ceymar-spinning-reel
Answer: Depending on the size 10,20,30,40,50. the 30 holds 200" of .22, 160" of .25, and 110" of .30, and the 40 holds 270" of .25, 190" of .3 and 170" of .32. This should give you an idea. Thanks. Dave Long Beach Sporting Goods
Answer: I have a C-30. 300 yds 4#: 185 yds 6#; 145yds 8#. This is a really nice real for the money.
Answer: +- 100 yds of 10lb. Mono.
Q:
Line recovery per 360handle rotation?
Answer: The C-30 has a line retrieve of 26.6" per handle turn.
Q:
Does it come with an extra spool
Answer: No just one spool
Answer: Nope! I remember the days when most "decent" spinning reels would...
Answer: No. Just the one.
Answer: It does not.
Answer: no
Q:
Is the c40 rated for saltwater
Answer: The C-40 can be used for light inshore saltwater fishing. As with all reels, we recommend rinsing the reel off with fresh water after use in the saltwater to prevent salt build up and premature corrosion.
Answer: I think they are basically freshwater reels, they don't state on their website saltwater use and they don't indicate Corrosion Resistance bearings. However, I've used freshwater reels for inshore saltwater for years, cleaned with freshwater each time, and have no issues.
Q:
Could I use the C-30 with 30lb braid for inshore fishing? Would mainly be used for flounder, sheepshead and med sized redfish and stripers.
Answer: I would not use a C-30 with 30lb braid. You might me better off with a C-40 with 30lb braid.
Answer: My husband uses 20lb braided it for fresh water fish. But he doesn't see why you couldn't
Q:
Left or right handed ?
Answer: converts from right- to left-hand retrieve
Answer: Because of the bale, you can change it to be right or left handed as far as the one we have.
Answer: Handle can be switched right or left
Answer: Left
Answer: You can set it up either way
Q:
Me pueden mandar el front drag
Answer: i only sell reels, not parts
Q:
Will this reel be ok for fishing in salt water in Hawaii?
Answer: It really depends on the size of the fish you're expecting to use it for. I use my reel for light salt water striped bass fishing.
Answer: Yes I have fished in the gulf with mine 6 different trips so far and love it
Q:
Okumo avenger4000 spinning reel. How much
Answer: Terry, sorry, we do not have that reel in stock
Q:
Line capacity for the c-65?
Answer: If you go to the Okuma website it has the specs for all the reels
Answer: 20 lb mono max
Q:
Is this full metal?
Answer: The Ceymar reel features a graphite frame and rotor. The spool is machined aluminum. For a full metal reel you would want to check out the Azores or Makaira spinning reels which feature aluminum frame , rotor and sideplates.
Answer: No, like most reels at this price point, the frame is made of graphite per the manufacturers website.
Answer: No,it is cast and composite. Very strong and very light weight.
Q:
Does reel work with braided line - 6# / model c10
Answer: Yes, you can use braided line with the reel.
Answer: I have three of these with braided line. I like the Power Pro line especially,
Answer: Yes, but braid will not run as good on a spinning reel.
Answer: I am using 30lb braid and it works fine.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Hi guys, would you tell me what size is perfect for my rod: Lamiglas 10’6”, 6-12 lb, Stillhead float?
Answer: Don’t know series#, but get the size that bests covers your 6-12 lb test
Q:
Is the reel right/left hand compatible?
Answer: The handle can easily be put on either side to accomodate either righties or lefties.
Answer: You can switch it to either one.
Q:
Is the average weight for Ceymar series heavier than the Avenger series?
Answer: The Ceymar does wiegh a little more than the Avenger. The Ceymar also has a higher bearing count which will add weight.
Answer: I'm going to say it's lighter then the avenger series depending on what size reel you own and are looking to replace in this line up. I don't own an avenger so I can't tell you specifically to what degree how much lighter could be a an oz or a few grams. The ceymar in the 40 is so light for me compared to my other reels I honestly honestly forget that it's even there, mainly bc of the plastic body making it so light and brittle(not graphite like labeled on box from okuma).
Answer: I think it's a little lighter than the Avenger, not by much. This Ceymar is the lightest reel,
Q:
Can you spool braided line without a backing on the C65 style?
Answer: you will need backing to prevent line slipping if you are using braid. You can use a couple wraps of tape or a couple feet of mono as backing.
Answer: You always need backing unless your spool has holes in it because the braid will just slip at some point and you will not be able to reel
Q:
What size reel would be ideal for an Okuma Celeilo 6'6" ultralight trout rod that would also help me cast far?
Answer: Depends on what weight bait you are throwing. For Ultralight ( 1/64 oz - 1/16/oz jigs ) I use the C-10 with 4lb test on that same rod in creeks and streams an love it . I have a C-20 as well but the C-10 is a good balance for that rod. Super smooth and well made. A bargain for what you pay.
Answer: 2500 or 3000 is perfect
Q:
How much is the max drag on the c-55 model?
Answer: I am unable to answer that question. I did not purchase a C-55 Okuma, although I recently purchased a new Okuma C-40, but I have not been able to use it as of yet.
Q:
whats a good size for a 6'6" rod?
Answer: Either the c-30 or the c-40 will work just fine for that size rod. But take a look at the first guide after the reel and it it come off the rod higher than usual than go with the c-40 but if it is close to the rod like a lot of older rods then go with the c-30. Sizing it correctly will result in virtually no line slap as you cast.
Answer: I have the C-40 on one and it works very well.
Answer: Sorry. Don’t know.
Q:
Can i use 10 pound braided line with c-30?
Answer: Sure you can. I’d either back the spool with mono or wrap the spool with a piece of tape. You can google backing the the spool for braid and learn why you need to do it
Answer: You can use anything you like. Feel like a slight over kill though with a 30
Answer: Yes no problem...I’m using 30lb braided just use a little more weight...????
Answer: Absolutely yes you can
Q:
Does the bale center up on top if you back real? So you can pinch the line to cast?
Answer: No.
Q:
Does the C-30 come with 160 yd of 8# test line already on it?
Answer: Hello Ms. Jennifer. The Okuma C-30 which I recently purchased, did not arrive with any line. A side note, this past weekend, my son and I spent a father/son camping fishing trip at Harrison Bay St. Pk., Chattanooga, TN, Lake Chickamauga and aside from not catching any "trophy" sized bass, the C-30 was...flawless. I was very much pleased with its performance. I'd highly recommend it! Thanks for your inquiry. Tony G.
Answer: No. They do not come with line on them.
Answer: No it does not come with any line on it.
Answer: No it does not.
Q:
What rod is a good match for the c-65?
Answer: Heavy or medium heavy
Q:
What does the C10 reel weigh?
Answer: The C-10 reel weighs 6.0 oz.
Answer: Eight (8) oz.
Answer: 8 oz
Q:
Doing some surf fishing, medium light rod 9' which reel should i get..... casting using lures?
Answer: I would go with a 30 or 40 size reel depending on the size of line you are using. If you are using braid, you can always go to a lighter line to get more capacity. I use a 30 size spinning reel for surf perch, croaker , corbina , halibut etc.... with 15lb braid to 6 lb. fluorocarbon leader in Southern California.
Answer: C50 would hold more line but the c40 is a good combo for that rod
Answer: Get the C40 or the C55 they will hold more line
Answer: C-40
Q:
Is this Reel good for catfishing?
Answer: I think you may want to look at a heavier duty reel. Okuma has a bait feeder model that would be better suited for cats. A 3500 or 4500 would be great choice
Q:
Como encontrar la parte delantera del freno la tapa del carrete,
Answer: Se puede ordenar la parte llamando a Okuma directo.
Q:
Whih size reel for 7ft.med rod wih 10lb.braid ?
Answer: 30
Q:
what size rod and rod power works well with ceymar?
Answer: I'm going to use it with a Berkley 6'-6" IM6 Series, Medium Light, Graphite rod and either 10 or 15 lb. test line.
Answer: Well I wouldn't go over medium power if you intend on using the c-30model it really depends on what pound test line you intend on using and what size fish your targeting .
Answer: Depends on what size reel you get
Q:
What size reel would be best for a 30in ice pole?
Answer: I'd say the C-10 or C-30. I have the C-30 and it's a fantastic reel! If you're just doing pan fish, I'd go with the C-10. The C-30 might be the most bang for your buck.
Answer: Something small. No bigger than a Shimano 1000. Reels of the micro variety work well for pan fish such as crappie and perch. If you are going after larger game fish like pike and walleye, I'd probably stick to a 1000 series.
Answer: I would go to the next size up on the reel the reel is awesome good quality
Answer: The C-10 or C-30 would work. Depends on what lb test you use and what fish you are targeting. I use a C-10 on a 4 ft trout rod with 4lb test. Works good.
Q:
Is the reel switchable from left to right handed?
Answer: The C-30 reel is switchable from left to right hand. Just remove the handle screw cap and install the handle on the opposite side.
Answer: Yes it is switchable from right to left
Answer: Yes
Q:
Guys please, where would I get additional spool for C-20 model?
Answer: Try contacting Okuma through their website and ask about purchasing an additional spool.
Answer: I have no idea,if you find out please post it
Answer: nope
Q:
Would the C-30 be too big for my 6' ultra light rod? I'm used to having those tiny reels for Crappie, but am not sure if this reel would be too big?
Answer: Use the 10 size for light/ultra light. I have a 10 on 7 foot ul rod, 4 lb. test, works great. If I need to drop to 2 lb. Test, tie a 4 ft section of 2 lb. flouro, you re good to go.
Answer: The line rating for the real should help you out but I personally would use the next smaller size down
Q:
Does the handle fold?
Answer: No the handle doesn't fold.
Answer: Yes it folds by loosening the screw on the other side. You can also swap the handle to the other side.
Answer: Yes. Loosen the bolt on the opposite side and it will fold in.
Answer: Yes it does. You can also switch sides from left to right?
Answer: Yrs
Answer: Yes
Q:
What model would you recommend for catching pike, bass, walleye and potentially muskie
Answer: I would recommend a 40 or 50 size for Line capacity and drag power.hope this helps.
Answer: 30 or 40, the 40 if your using a heavy thick line like monofilament 12lb or greater
Answer: 30 or 40
Q:
Why is the C20 $52 and the 10, 30 and 40 only $43?
Product reviews of Okuma Ceymar Spinning Reel
Libby Libretti : Awesome reel!
Smooth reel with comfortable padded handle. Quality feel and awesome look. I bought C10 size. It is noticable smaller than Shimano 1000 size reel. Ceymar C10 is perfect match to Okuma guide select pro rod 7'6" ultra light
Ranagedsl : Great Reel at a Great Price
Ordered the smallest one for my ultralight setup. Really nice look and performance. Retrieval is smooth, but a little rougher when compared to a Pflaugher Presidential reel.
KuJo : I'd keep looking
Overall: not impressed with this reel. It's handle isn't the best thing to try and grab in a fast response situation (I've missed it multiple times when trying to reach for it quickly), the retrieval rate is sluggish, sometimes the bail won't stay open, and it lacks the sensativity my Penn has I can get a feel for how much lure is moving through the water by the feel of reeling in. It's not bad, but I'd definitely say there's better reels out there for the money.
Ryan G. : Keeper for sure
One of the new reels in my set. In the $50 dollar price range this was the one to beat out of the 6 or so I ordered to check out.
Tried: AV-30b Sougailang Unamed - No drag specs Penn Pursuit Kastking Centurion
This and the Pursuit were my keepers. Smooth, bearings solid, good companies (subjective obviously), drag right, feels great, great for my kids and overall quality fit me well
just me : Great Reel For The Money
Update Sept 25, 2021: I have fished this reel for 2 weeks and it has performed great, drag and retrieve are both still smooth.
I own the C-30 and like it very much. I purchased the C-40 for the larger spool. I did have to remove one of the spacers to get the line to go on evenly, which was not big deal, as I've had to do that with other manufactures reels out of the box as well. I have fished with the reel several times and it's just as smooth as the C-30. I have on 30lb braid and a 10lb Fluro leader with a 7' medium action F&S Tango rod. The reel feels great when casting and retrieving fish. The drag click is rather quiet and smooth. I recently purchased more expensive Diawa and Picifun spinning reels, however I think the Okuma Ceymar Spinning reels are just as good, cost less and are simply a great value for the money. I'm not knocking Diawa and Picifun, they make great reels. However, I think I want a second C-40.
Disapponted but Hopeful. : I haven't used it yet but it looks great and I have several other Okuma Reels
I spooled on 30# braid and am getting ready to take it to the Napa River to test it on Striped Bass. Should be great!!
robert volm : Best Spinning Reel I've Owned
This reel is definitely the best spinning reel I've owned, though admittedly it was the first one I purchased after some research. It is lightweight, ergonomic, powerful and dependable. I've count countless bass, panfish, catfish, and pike with this thing, and it's still going strong.
For the price it can't be beat, looks pretty cool too!

DR : Solid value, another great reel from Okuma.
Great reel, solid choice providing good value. Much smaller than you might think, but if you're running a light braided line shouldn't be an issue. Well constructed, heavy duty bail wire which is nice. I hike back in with this rod and also fish out of a canoe so I appreciate how well it's made.
I have been fishing Okuma reels in both fresh and saltwater and have found them to be a great reel that provides value far beyond their price tag. My first okuma reel was an aveneger AV30 and that reel saw everything from big Red's and tough Jack's on the flats to bass on the lake and back in the creeks and it always performed. Pair one with an ugly stik and you've got a setup you can count on for years to come if you take care of it and wash it down after use.
turkeyfoot : and was able to land a 7lb small mouth on this ultralight setup after a lengthy and incredibly fun fight. The drag worked flawlessly and the casting ...
I paired this reel with a Fenwick Eagle 6' light action 2 piece rod for creek fishing here in the Ozarks. I spooled it with 6lb Spiderwire braid with a 8lb fluorocarbon leader, and was able to land a 7lb small mouth on this ultralight setup after a lengthy and incredibly fun fight. The drag worked flawlessly and the casting and retrieval on this little guy is impressively smooth for a reel at this price point. I've ordered several reels in this size and price range, and so far this has been my favorite. If feels and functions like a $100 reel. Love this thing!
Caesar : Very good light reel under $50
Nice, high quality reel. Paired it with a medium light Berkeley Cherrywood. First time out caught a nice 19” speckled trout. Good light rig for kayak fishing in the intracoastal in Florida. We’ll see how it does against a big redfish.
Decent value but also take a look at the Diawa Crossfire 2000. Both catch fish but costs a little less.
Also, don’t fall for the marketing hype on the number of ball bearings. You don’t need more than 3 and they all aren’t created equal.
Amazon Customer : Great product
This has been my favorite Okuna reel. From fishing for trout to bass and fishing for catfish awesome reel lightweight
Nate : Great reel!
This is an incredible reel.I've had zero issues with it since buying, and I have used it a lot.I mostly wade fish in creeks while using this,so it has been accidentally dunked under water many times with no problems. The drag is super smooth and I never worry about line tangling up.I use 4 to 6 pound line for Smallmouth bass, and regularly catch big Drum (attached photo) on it.The drag has never caused a line break, even when these big fish make fast runs.Highley recommend.
Gene W. : Amazing item for the price.
Bought 3 of these for my kids. They work great, the drag is easy to set, they are extremely smooth in operation and there is no back movement in the reel when trying to set hooks. Couldn't ask for anything more for the price.
DV8 : Fantastic, smooth action reel at the best price.
I am not a pro and don't spend $$ on fancy fishing gear. This reel makes me feel like I do. Smooth and super consistent. Quality feel, light but tight.
Libby Libretti : Awesome reel!
Smooth reel with comfortable padded handle. Quality feel and awesome look. I bought C10 size. It is noticable smaller than Shimano 1000 size reel. Ceymar C10 is perfect match to Okuma guide select pro rod 7'6" ultra light
MrBill92124 : Nice, smooth and economical!
For the price I've found this to be a great little reel... can't speak to its durability yet but it casts well, the drag is nice and smooth and everything feels pretty solid. I recently returned a reel I paid twice as much for that wasn't as good as this one.
Josh Gilliam : Great budget reel
This reel performs like many high end reels I've had. It's very compact in the smallest size. It goes along perfectly with an ultralight rod.
DAVID W. : Mount base is far too large to fit any Freshwater rod!
This reel was not just outrageously heavy, but the mount point was far, far to large to fit any Freshwater nor Saltwater rod I have nor can find. It appears Okuma made an error in producing this reel. It has a base which is 1/8" wider and 3/4" longer than any common bait casting, Spinning reels I can find. Perhaps it's meant for the over the top trolling rods except the drag is not sufficient for such use. Thank goodness Amazon provided a return for it. If only they had said it's base was so over the top in size before I bought it, I wouldn't have bothered.
just me : Great Reel For The Money
KJD : Nice little reel
Great little reel for ice fishing, I don’t feel likes it’s as smooth as the my Pflueger president xt reels, but at one third the price it’s an awesome value. My only complaint with the reel is my own fault. There was an inch or two of water sitting on the ice, I set my rod down in the water to help land a monster and the next week or two, the live line switch was unresponsive, I ended up putting the reel on the defrost of my truck for an hour and it’s worked perfect ever since.
JJC : Love it.
Bought it for a trip to the Nipigon. Spooled it with spiderwire braid on a Fenwick HMG. Performed beautifully.
Michael : Try Okuma
Loaded with Seaguar fluro and took it out for trout. Light weight, casts well, fast and smooth retrieve, and although none were large, it handled several fish very well. Good value, as all Okuma I have had. Cannot give 5 stars without knowing durability, but other Okuma reels I have had never quit on me.
robert volm : Best Spinning Reel I've Owned
This reel is definitely the best spinning reel I've owned, though admittedly it was the first one I purchased after some research. It is lightweight, ergonomic, powerful and dependable. I've count countless bass, panfish, catfish, and pike with this thing, and it's still going strong.
For the price it can't be beat, looks pretty cool too!
Hieu N. : Small but smooth
Glides like a much more expensive reel. I would say the spool diameter is a lot smaller than i thought...if you are using a thicker line you may have a little bird nesting..so far its been fine with my braid.
Mr. Reams : The reel was a little stiff right out of the ...
The reel was a little stiff right out of the box, but the more I use it the smoother it becomes.
Ryan : Great product for the price!
Bought this as a Father's Day gift for my father. This reel is by far one of the best reels on the market for the money. My father can't stop talking about how much he loves the thing.
Audrey Griffis : Great for surfcasting
Works great. Had success 7 days straight catching striped bass off the beach with the reel. Great upgrade from my old reel.
Nate : Great reel!
This is an incredible reel.I've had zero issues with it since buying, and I have used it a lot.I mostly wade fish in creeks while using this,so it has been accidentally dunked under water many times with no problems. The drag is super smooth and I never worry about line tangling up.I use 4 to 6 pound line for Smallmouth bass, and regularly catch big Drum (attached photo) on it.The drag has never caused a line break, even when these big fish make fast runs.Highley recommend.
bobw : Quality Reel
My first time using Okuma brand reel, and I like it so far. It looks and feels solid to the hand unlike other brands comaparable to its price. The Okuma Ceymar casts and reels in smooth as well. It's a quality reel.
ethanduds : Decent Reel
Decent reel however once we put line on it kept trying to unwind. My son replaced with another reel weeks later.
BJ Dimond : My 3rd Okuma - great value
Not the best reels I own but definitely the best value reels I own. Reliable, smooth drag, easy to maintain and easy to use.
Hieu N. : Small but smooth
Glides like a much more expensive reel. I would say the spool diameter is a lot smaller than i thought...if you are using a thicker line you may have a little bird nesting..so far its been fine with my braid.
Andrew : Extremely pleased
I pair this pretty reel is with a Shakespeare ugly stik GX2 medium power rod. Couldn't be any more pleased with its appearance and performance With a price tag of ~$40 dollar you won't find a better reel elsewhere. Promise.
DaveB : Easily handles my 27" redfish and 23" spotted sea trout
Surprisingly smooth. Easily handles my 27" redfish and 23" spotted sea trout. A very cost effective reel that works best on a 7' light action, or at most, a medium action rod if you want to have a lot of fun.
Pleased Traveler : Really nice reel for the money
So far this reel has performed great! Super light, casts great and reels in like butter. I cannot be more pleased with my purchase. I rated it 5 stars on durability (only had it a month) based on the quality of the construction and well it feels when operating.
Audrey Griffis : Great for surfcasting
Works great. Had success 7 days straight catching striped bass off the beach with the reel. Great upgrade from my old reel.
Eric Shiflett : Hard to beat the price, but does break down over time...
This reel (C-10) has really surprised me. Incredibly smooth. Lightweight without feeling cheaply made. Compact. Smaller than many other reels labeled “UL”.
After 2 years of use, the bail/closure system is beginning to fail. The bail does not fully close (unless manually pressed down) allowing the line to slip over the spool during the retrieve. It is less of a problem when using nylon or fluorocarbon lines, but a huge headache with braid. I've unfortunately missed a few nice fish because of this. That said, it's hard to beat what you get for the price paid. Other Okuma reels in my arsenal have help up great with lots of abuse, so have no problem trusting the brand.
Travers : Great reel, but not a Penn Fierce 2 killer
Just spent the past 2 weeks fishing in Nags Head, NC and the Chesapeake Bay in MD and this reel did a very good job. Out of the box, the reel was light, much smoother than my Penn Fierce 2 and Penn Battle 2, looked great, and overall just as impressive as advertised . This was mostly paired with a Fiblink 2 piece 10 foot surf rod (Available on Amazon, great rod for the money) and spooled with 25 lb Kast King braid. Even though this was a "surf setup," I mostly ended up pier fishing, and because both the rod and reel were so light, it was very comfortable to fish with. I caught over 50 pan sized spot, croaker, white perch, striper, and shad and overall the reel performed admirably.
Now for the flaws- The 5.0 to 1 gear ratio is slower than comparable reels of this size- with the Penn Fierce 2 being a 5.6:1 and Kast King Sharky 2 being at 5.2:1 for their 5000 size models. It was definitely noticeable when retrieving 50-75 yards of line as it did become tiring pulling in all those fish when the bite got hot. If it were just this, I would have given a 5 star review considering the price, however the main thing I didn't like was the reel foot. I noticed considerable flexing when paired to several different rods. It wasn't noticeable when reeling in the smaller fish, but I hooked into a skate and when fighting it the flex was very evident. The drag performed great, and the reel had enough power to muscle the skate in close enough to the pier to cut my line, but all of the flexing was a turnoff. I have hooked into skates many times before with reels of lesser quality and I don't remember the flex being so noticeable.
Overall, I do enjoy using this reel and would give it 5 stars for catching any medium to smaller species of fish. An all aluminum body ( or at least a more solid reel foot) and faster gear ratio would make this an absolute stud that would rival the likes of the Penn Fierce 2 (which IMO, is currently a better purchase for the extra $15- $20). It's probably a tie when compared to the Kast King Sharky 2 as far as smoothness, construction, and price.
A. Bay : Faulty out of the box!
The reel I received was faulty. Super disappointed as I didn’t get to use it yet and it’s past its return date. As seen in the video, the reel at times (must be at a particular spot) can and will reel backwards. The spool does not always lock. This will be very problematic when setting the hook. I have not been able to reach customer service at this point. Needless to say I’m frustrated as I have a reel that I don’t trust at quite a substantial price point. I hope this helps, as there is a chance you may get a lemon. Any customer service help would be greatly appreciated.
Skeeter : Nice reel for the money.
Smooth turning reel. Drag was smooth and worked well with yellowtail, mangroves, grunts and several 25lb+ 'cudas. Used 20 lb braid. 7 foot MH graphite rod.
Amazon Customer : Can't go wrong with Okuma!
Most of my tackle budget these days goes for Okuma products. In my experience, comparable Shimano or Daiwa rods and reels go for 30% to 60% more. Okuma's customer service is unbeatable. I sent them a spinning reel that was grinding due to me having dropped it in the sand. I had it back in about 10 days, good as new, no charge! When I called to order a part, same thing, friendly service and no charge! I can't say anything bad about these guys, they take care of their customers!
PirateMike : Not what I was expecting.
I paired this reel with an Okuma ultra lite rod for trout fishing. When I opened the box I was shocked at the size of the reel. I use mostly Shimano reels, and I am used to their sizing (500, 1000, 2500, etc.). Other manufacturers use similar systems to give you an idea of the spool size. Since this was advertised as a 10 size, I was expecting something similar to a Shimano 1000 size. Well, boy was I surprised when the Okuma 10 was nearly identical in size to the 500 size Shimano. I nearly returned it, but finally decided to give it a try, and was pleasantly surprised at the way it paired with the Okuma rod, and the smoothness of the reel We'll see if it holds up as well as the Shimanos, but so far I'm quite satisfied. The takeaway is that this is a very SMALL reel, and totally suitable for the rod I purchased, but if you are needing a 1000 size reel you will be disappointed.
Dex B : Great reel
I initially purchased this reel in size C-10 for my son for trout/panfish. I got to use it a few times and liked it better than my Pflueger president reel I got for myself. Christmas came and I got my nieces and nephew the same C-10 reel for them. The reel is smooth and light weight. I didn’t have any issues with wind knots when casting. I then bought myself a new St Croix trout rod and got the same reel in the C-20 size because I liked it that much.
Amanda Osborne : Big Bang for the buck
Okuma makes great reels. At almost every price point. Their saltwater stuff if really tough and smooth. Can’t beat the price point on this Ceymar. It’s my second Ceymar. Haven’t seen a drawback yet.
Sergey Krasovski : Great reel for the money
I got this reel as a gift for my dad, who is an avid fisherman. He generally likes Shimano reels, but was completely surprised with the quality of Okuma reel. He got quite many pikes weighting from 1 lbs to 5 lbs with the Okuma reel, and asked me to get one more for him.
Skeeter : Nice reel for the money.
Smooth turning reel. Drag was smooth and worked well with yellowtail, mangroves, grunts and several 25lb+ 'cudas. Used 20 lb braid. 7 foot MH graphite rod.
Robin C. : Good reel for the price
Good reel for the price. Bail is a little harder to spring than I'd like but it's some may like it. Smooth and no problems yet.
