Answer: I have a pair of these as my go to bass fishing reels. I have 12 pound mono on one with my 6' medium rod and 20 pound mono on my 6.5' medium heavy rod. I've only had two line breaks - both on the 12 pound with huge pickerel slicing it right at the boat. The reels are great with the best and easiest drag setup of any spincast reels I've ever owned. And that's a lot of reels.

Answer: Absolutely. I’ve never used one of mine on the bottom. I don’t know how you would push the button to release the line. Give the Pflueger reels a look. After getting one of them I’ve never purchased another Abumatic.

Answer: No it’s not reversible, I have 4 of them the oldest is 15 years can’t beat them

What's the difference between the 170 and 170-C?

Answer: Don't really known but 170 looks & feels good in the hand but has a very poor drag. sold mine for 5.00 dollars

Casts perfect and reels in fine, but sounds like gears grinding while you're reeling it in. Not sure how long it will last like that.

My hubby bought this for me after trying 2 other brands... It's fantastic!! Works as intended with none of the line becoming tangled inside (we had this issue with two other more expensive reels)... Many sunfish and walleyes have been caught on this in the past month... We will definitely buy this again when the kids need new reels!

Have several of these, many several years old. Probably the best and most trouble free reel on the market. Very good value and easy to use.

I purchased this reel because I fell in love with my son's Abumatic S and wanted something better. The reel looks great but the release button was finicky and the line spooled was brittle. Seemed to be dry rotted and had damage on the body. If it worked it would've been great but it was a total let down

Electrovan : Not Like The Old Models

Had one of these when I was a kid and it lasted for ever. So I bought one for my wife 18 months or so ago. The first one lasted a few months before it quit reeling. I sent it in for repair and they sent me a brand new one. My wife only uses it a few times a year. Yesterday we were fishing and the entire reel locked up. Opened it up but there wasn't a darn thing I could do to fix it. This time it went straight in the trash. I've got a couple Garcia rods I love (Villain 2.0 and an Ike model cranking rod). But I'm done with their less expensive reels. I have some high dollar casting reels, but they're Lews, 13 Fishing, and Shimano. I'm now a little leary of Garcia reels.

Changing Man : A bit confused!

It's a long time since I bought a spinning reel and I have always associated ABU with Swedish engineering and quality. I was a bit disappointed to see that manufacturing is now done in China. Cheap plastic packaging isn't easily reusable for storage. Another confusing thing is that the reel seems to be set up for right- hand retreive I.e. Left-handed rod holding. Looks like I will have to get my screwdriver out!

Okera : Top of The Line Spincast

I have had this reel for a while now, and have gotten some good use out of it. It is smooth, fast and far casting. It is also basically a solid brick of steel, so no need to worry about it breaking. I caught the only freshwater fish I've ever kept on this reel, a large northern pike. I give it 4 star because on rare occasions, only once or twice a year it gets tangled under the case and the drag is a little weak. Overall, an excellent spincast for the inexperienced or experienced angler.

Not very happy with this product. Casting is ify, and if you do get a cast. Its not very far. Even swithched the line. No change. Dissapointed. And not worth the cost.
