Answer: This model doesn’t have finger grooves.

Answer: No, and that is a good. I got these and the 9" which does have them. I hate that one, but these are great.

does it float if dropped?

Answer: Don't know, I never dropped it. But I saw a video on YouTube (zoffinger's channel) where he dropped his for a second (with a fish hooked) and it did float.

Answer: An empty spool will barely float. I wouldn't trust it to stay afloat while fishing.

Answer: my reel is 6" on the outside, 3 3/4" on the inside opening. It is great for canoeing, backpacking.

What can I say. Is it better than the traditional beer can? Yes, yes sir it is. Why, because if you actually catch something big your going to be glad you dropped $4. I use it off of an SUP and pulled in a 24 Lb Striped bass.

Dave Riopel : Cheap but outstanding!

So far I’m thoroughly impressed with this hand reel! It’s cheaply priced but the quality is nice. I did some modifications which took a couple minutes. I shaved down the mold line with a razor and cut 2 “line holders” in the back lip. I used electrical tape for the line seat. I then used 30lbs mono to a weight the tied 30lbs flouro to my bait. My initial casts in the yard were about 30 yards! You can stop the line with you thumb. Very excited to fish Curacao with these next week!

Auto Tech Instructor : Misleading discounted price...

Bought these to keep on the boat for the kids, a little smaller than expected and it's just a basic Yo-yo. I don't know where they got the quoted list price...no one would pay $35 for these, hardly worth the discounted price. Not the Cadillac of hand reels. No features here that separate it from the lower priced versions. I would recommend the purchase of a larger size.

You can put this anyway, tuck it away in your glove box, or put it in your carry-on, and then add some string, a weight, and a hook and voila, you're fishing! My husband always like to fish when we're on vacation, but when we fly there isn't room for his pole. In Puerto Vallarta we watched locals catching big fish, one after another, using one of these, and then walked all over downtown PV trying to find one for sale, but didn't. Happily, Amazon sells these, so I ordered one for my husband and my son.

It's a 4" inside (6 outside) diameter reel, since the description fails to mention this. The model is like the red reel that pops up, not the blue one pictured. For something that depends on the smoothness of the spooling side for performance, I was somewhat disappointed with the molding burrs on the inside of the spool and the unevenness of the outer rim. It only took a few minutes with a file to smooth it all out, but still a sloppy molding job.

Yoyo yo : Simple, effective and disposable if I may say so

Nice simple / cheap gadget to fish, I been using these for 30+ years to fish from the coast/beach, on piers, from boats, kayaks, you name it. Whoever says you can't cast with it, well I am not going to argue, if you dont know and need a rod then that is what you need. I can throw the line pretty far out anytime, have caught saltwater fish of all kinds and sizes with them.
Not for kids of any age, is large for their hands even a small size yo-yo like this one, not at least until they know how to coordinate their movements / hands in sync properly as manual work is required to cast, retrieve the line, and know what to do when you hook a fish, a fishing rod is actually easier for a kid as also is harder to get the feel when a fish is just bitting.
If you like to think outside the box give it a try, I have never owned a fishing rod as I never really needed it.

This thing is ideal for the man or woman who has to have a spare fishing pole tucked under his truck seat for "fishing emergencies". I have grown to truely love mine. I shaved the little bit of manufacturing quality control plastic from the seem lines which I was expecting from a low price product. I loaded mine up with 80lb Walmart braided line. It took about 5 times more than a typical fishing pole. I didn't need to put that much on there but I wanted that much on there. Attached to my line is a swivel and clasp combo so I can quickly switch out my leader lines (which I use 30lb leaders for a weak point for the line to break in a snag) which has worked perfectly for me. It works perfect for crabbing or fishing

I used to use reels like this as a kid in Venezuela, but the ones I got there were better made than this. The plastic is poorly moulded and you will need to finish it yourself and well as make the holes for the line.

i bought two of these, mine came in very bright orange and royal blue colour. quality is much better than in the picture. Feels very solid and made with good plastic. Price is more than i wantd to pay but quality seems worth it. Happy with the colours, i do think they should offer a choice in the interest of customer service. 5 star review though
