Coronado CDX Baitfeeder
Functionality, Strength and Ease of Use
The Coronado CDX bait feeding reels were designed with the latest technology available. The Coronado CDX features a corrosion resistant graphite body with graphite CFR: Cyclonic Flow Rotor technology to sweep water away from the spool and internal workings of the reel. One of the key updates to the Coronado CDX is the slow oscillation system. This slower oscillation system gives an exceptional line lay upon retrieve, and is optimized for use with braided line
The Coronado CDX brings its updated technology to four key sizes. A 55, 60, 65, and 80 size reel fill the family up nicely. All four sizes feature the Okuma DFD: Dual Force Drag system with its buttery smooth Carbonite drag washers, and new easier to use On/Off auto trip bait feeding system.
Depending on the size of your reel, the DFD process will bring between 27-36 lbs of pure drag pressure giving this reel the ultimate in stopping power. To round out its power, the Coronado CDX comes standard with a machined aluminum, screw in handle system, heavy duty solid aluminum bail wire, and machined aluminum, 2-tone anodized spool with LCS lip design to reduce line twist.

Questions about Okuma Coronado CDX Lightweight Baitfeeder Saltwater Reel
Q:
Which coronado model would pair well with the lc-s-802m-1:8 and the csx-s-1062m cedros?
Answer: Do not know, my reels are on 10 and 11 foot Ugly Sticks; and works great.
Q:
hi what fishing rod would be nice to pair with reel
Answer: I paired it up with the okuma pch custom popping rod I believe it's a 7'6 xh , I haven't got a chance to fish it yet , but looks like it'll be a good all around combo
Answer: I have a phenix abysys 807 spinning rod and I love the set up
Answer: I put mine on a Shakespeare "Ugly Stik" for surf casting. Not too expensive and very reliable. Works for me.
Q:
Is this the model cdx 55?it has 27lbs of drag?
Answer: the okuma coronado 55 cdx has 28 lbs. max drag
Q:
Is the gear ratio 4.8/1 or 4.9/1? Cause there’s conflicting information in you product description.
Answer: The 80 is 4.9:1, according to their website. I don't have mine with me in FL. as I use my 80 for Stripe Bass on Cape Cod.
Answer: It's 4.9:1.
Q:
Spare spool?
Answer: No there is not a spare spool that comes with reel. You might try asking Okuma if they would sell you one.
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: No
Q:
Does this reel have an audible sound when the line goes out using the baitfeeder function like a baitclicker does?
Answer: Yes it does but it is not very loud, with that being said it is a beast of a reel, will handle 200-300 lb fish easily
Answer: Yes it clicks, it's a great real I used it for lake so last year and I'm getting a second one this year.
Q:
Is the reel seat made of metal or plastic?
Answer: Graphite body, the reel has held up for me chunk bait and live lining catching stripers and bluefish over 20 and 30lbs. Along with getting hung up in rocks fishing 50lb braid and exerting some serious pressure to try and free up. Great reel for the money. A bit heavy. So are my Diawa BG's that are all metal
Answer: Metal same as the body of the reel, reel works very well and holds a lot of line.
Answer: No it’s metal
Answer: It is made of graphite
Answer: It's Aluminum.
Q:
Is the body sealed with a gasket to keep water out?
Answer: No
Q:
cuantas libras de arrastre
Q:
Which model would be suggested for surf fishing? Targeting black tips, jacks, pomps, reds etc
Answer: I bought the 65 for my turf pole. Better drag and more line. I use 50lb braid about 250 yards of it.
Answer: Coronado CDX 65 will more than suffice, i use it for offshore trolling, Mahi, Tuna, Kings and such. Its a brute and you will love the drag system on it for the big boys !!
Answer: I have the 55. While it could probably handle it, I would step up to the 65
Q:
Does anyone know how much 40lb braid will fit onto the CDX 80 model?
Answer: Don't know if this helps, but I got 300 yds 65 lb Sufix braid on mine with about 15 yds of 80lb mono backing. (just happened to have some laying around)
Answer: I have 40 lb braid on mine, and there's about 350yds on the spool with room to spare.
Q:
What are the dimensions of this item in cm and grams?
Q:
How much does it weight?
Q:
What is the differance between the cdx 65 and the cdx 80?
Answer: Size, the 65 is not as the 80
Answer: what is a size rod for this reel
Q:
Is the rear drag suppose to be a little loose after you have got it tight ?
Answer: Yes, it controls the bait runner drag and wants to be loose so the fish won't feel any tension when it takes the bait. The spool drag should be set it fighting mode so you can set the hook.
Q:
Saltwater usable?
Answer: Yes I used it for rock fish, lincods and salmon also caught plenty of stergeon
Answer: Absolutely.
Q:
Is this able to use in salwater?
Answer: This is an outstanding reel. Salt water is the only place I use it. I have had mine for two years and it still is as good as when I first got it. I do wash it with low velocity water after each us.
Q:
Does the secondary drag click in automatically when reeling or do you have to hit the switch?
Answer: Clicks in as soon as you touch the handle, remember to have light pull on baitrunner drag and higher drag on front drag to set the hook.
Answer: A full rotation of the handle will disengage the bait runner drag and automatically switch to the main drag, or you can manually flip it to the off position, either way works
Answer: Secondary drag is automatic.
Answer: This reel is a heavy pile of crap
Q:
Is the handle interchangeable to make it right handed?
Answer: Yes it is, I'm left handed so I changed it when I received it. Most reels are interchangeable.
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes
Product reviews of Okuma Coronado CDX Lightweight Baitfeeder Saltwater Reel
Philippe Georges : Awesome drag system!
I like the look. I like how smooth the drag is. The reel is super smooth. It makes short work of fish in 10-20lb range. It's somewhat heavy. Very happy with it.
chim cánh cut : THIS is a great solid reel
THIS is a great solid reel. it's a bit heavy , but that's the cost for making a strong reel with great drag power, it also have reinforcement of drag power. I would buy this over and over again. only thing about this reel is not water proof. so does my 10 year old okuma epixor 65, as long as you don't do kayak fishing where u may dunk the reel into the water, and do yearly maintenance then you should be fine. it's super smooth, carbon drag too is a plus.
Sir : Works great
Works great. Quality work. Very smooth turn
Scott S. : Great Reel
Great reel. Perfect for live bait on a stop for tuna. Instant lockup and tons of drag.
NB : Works Great
No break fade yet.
Its a Champ for the Money.
Matt E. : Killer SW spinning reel
I’ve landed 50lb yellowfin tuna, 100lb pacific sails and 200lb tarpon with this reel. If you think you need one of these, don’t hesitate. For trolling and pitching live baits to giant fish there is no better spinning reel on the market right now. Same as any reel, rinse it with freshwater and allow it to dry at the end of the day and it’ll last a long time.
Jason : The 8000 is a great reel!
I bought the 8000 to 1st time surf fish. It looked large at first glance. It turned out to be perfect. I landed several 3-4' sharks with no problem. I hooked 2 giants that couldn't be landed. One started pulling like a truck driving away. The drag was screaming! I tightened the drag, so he wouldn't rob all of my line. He broke 80 lb braid. The other took off the same way, and broke my metal leader.
The reel performed perfectly. The baitfeeder was flawless and the reel is smooth. The super strong handle provided great leverage and allowed me to quickly reel long casts in.
The 8000 reel isnt lightweight, but no reel this big and well made would be. If you want a big, solid, smooth, sturdy beast of a reel at a fair price, this is recommended. It is solid!
noah kilpatrick : Long lasting
This was my first ll reel that i used for shark fishing. This reel is a powerhouse and is very well built.
guy : Equal to Btr 8000d
I'm very cautious about giving5 ???? ever but after only fishing once with this reel I'm moved to do so it is fantastic I used it the same day I received it for Arrowana fishing in the Essiquibo river and the reel did not disappoint. The shimano baitrunner 8000d is not superior to this reel I used both on the day. This reel should be given more recognition it's just good and for the price it's excellent I'm buying another one. It's smooth and very powerful I'm hoping that it hold's up I love it.
A.Z : THIS REEL FAILED DURING A LONG RANGE TRIP...
I was using this reel for the first time, fishing for 15-25 lb. yellow fin tuna. The bait feeder function froze, destroying the purpose of this reel. Nightmare to have gear failure on an 8 day fishing trip at sea.
Tim M. : Thoroughly inspect this reel to make sure there are no defects. Hard to see some defects.
I bought two of these. They look great! My first cast on the reel one was so smooth that it caught me off guard how far it flew. The second reel not as good. There was a small gash on the top of the spool ( the spool is made of metal and this gash catches the line on the way out of the spool which makes it fly much less. ).

Raul Cahue Thomas : Fuerza
Bastante fuerza y muy resistente aunque es un poco pesado el carrete es muy cómodo de usar, le puse 30 lbs de linea trenzada y le entraron los 300mts.
Excelente para capturas grandes con carnada viva
Scott S. : Great Reel
Great reel. Perfect for live bait on a stop for tuna. Instant lockup and tons of drag.
Delacey MArtin : broke after the first 140 pound alligator gar, on ...
broke after the first 140 pound alligator gar, on the second fish the reel seized up and went swimming we landed the fish but the reel was done, the return also wasn't accepted so im out the money and got a defective product
Snickers C. : It a great reel but it huge and heavy good boat or shore rod for chunking not for throwing lures
I will do a follow up review after using this reel after the fall as well
I used this reel all weekend for about 10 hours
Out of the box it is smooth as butter and weights like a brick it looks like a transformer or a cassette recorder i left this thing in the rod holder as much as I could it’s not 1980s
The drag system is the finest I have seen top and bottom drag nice detent of drag pressure and boy this has serious drag pressure I only go 12 max and use 30lb power pro more drag equals popped hooks that’s just my experience I would lube the parts I’m not a fan of the manual anti reverse swich it looks like you could do some damage if salt water got in the big 1/4 gap in there
Bottom line if you troll or bait fish and this reel is in the rod holder on on shore this is the best baitrunner bait feeder liveliner I have ever seen and I got some nice stripers with min effort I have the 65 size for some off shore use too
Tim M. : Thoroughly inspect this reel to make sure there are no defects. Hard to see some defects.

Jeff : Great Reel
Great reel!
chris mckeown : Okuma always makes great bait feeders
Haven't used it yet but looks well constructed and feels solid I've fished the avenger B bait feeders for years with no issues, the secondary drag is a bit quieter than I would like.
Rick Bishop : Well built
I actually own several of these reels that are 15 years old and have loved them so I t was a no brainer to go with the same make and model when I was looking for a couple more live bait runners and was not disappointed, as happy as i was with my old ones ( I have a 65 & 80 model) the new models seem to be built to a much higher level and can’t wait to use them as I have not had a chance to get on the water yet, I will add that I hooked and boated a 45 lb king fish with the older 65 model and had no problem whatsoever in doing so and believe the new one will perform even better
Mike N. : Great for catfish
Solid reel, Great for catfish.

Bobby Williams : Florida Offshore Fishing
Live in Florida and I use this reel for offshore bottom fishing. Solid as a rock. I use 70 lb braid with a 60 lb mono shock leader.
creating art : Awesome
I love this reel great product and will definitely be buying another one soonish lol
Jeff : Great Reel
