Product reviews of Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Line Counter Baitcast Reel
pete : very nice and well built reel but power handle was bent ...
very nice and well built reel but power handle was bent looks like factory defect but will keep reel and order a replacement handle
Oleg Efimov : Cant release under the load
I tried to troll with this reel. Its virtually impossible to release the reel to free-spool while line is under the load. The release button has serious design problem. It is a hassle when you fighting big fish or trying to put down 10oz sinker.
Michael W Schulte : Five Stars
Awesome reels with dependable line counters.
4pierre : High quality line counter
One of the better line counters out there IMHO (6500LC)
1: there is no play in the reeling, very solid and smooth
2: solid construction. All pieces seem well machined and solidly build and assembled. No flex in the reel whatsoever
3: all buttons and levers have very confident action, solid
4: lightweight compared to some of the other round reels that ABU Garcia makes.
only downside I see is if you want to cast with it. It does not freewheel well at all even with the cast control completely out, but that's not this reels prime objective so I wont subtract for that.
Charles Osborne : Just Right
I need a reel that allows repeatable line release and is not too heavy as I wish to hold it while trolling. This reel is small enough with an excellent drag. Keep in mind that this reel will holds over 200 yards of 10-20 lb superbraid which is more than enough line for any trolling on freshwater lakes.
I have filled this reel with 20lb Suffix 832 and it holds over 300 yards! The line counter reset seems a bit sticky so I gave it four stars
Clohse : Line counter is the weak link in this reel
At first I was very disappointed with these reels because "the line counter was off". After asking around I finally figured out my mistake. For line counter reels to be accurate, you have to spool them all the way. So, when you go to put string on the reel, DO NOT cut the string until you check the accuracy of the line counter. Measure out 25 feet and 50 feet in your driveway and make sure its accurate before you cut the string. If 25 REAL feet equals "27" feet on the line counter, then you are UNDER spooled and need to add some more string. If 25 real feet equals "23" feet on the line counter, than you are OVER spooled and need to strip off some string. I put 80 pound braid on my 6500 LC and I had to zero the line counter out, and reel until the line counter said "675" and that was perfect. I have no idea how much string that actually is but probably a hundred yards or less.
The reel itself is strong and durable and good quality. The "line out alarm" sometimes has a difficult time sliding in place and engaging. The other bad thing is I have had heck with the line counters zeroing out. 2 out of the four reels I own would not zero out after less than a year of use. I finally got one of them to zero out but the last one still will not zero out. Most likely has a shad scale wedged in there if I were guessing but no way to get in there and clean it out. For the troubles I have had with the line counter reels zero out I would advise you to check out other reels such as the Shimano Tekota Line Counter Series which I have heard a few fishing guides recommend after using those and these abu garcia 6500's and said they hold up better in all respects.
Jim Ludwig : Very nice and smooth
Very nice and smooth, will hold 5 colors of 18 pound lead core ''tuff line'' or 10 colors of 15lb suffix 832 lead core.
Christopher R. : Simply work....
Well built. These ar Not their outsourced stuff but made in Sweden. Simple to clean and maintain and these just work. I have the 5500 and 6500.
Steve P. : Love the Abu C3's
I love the C3 Abu Garcia reels. I now have 10 of them and they have caught everything from kokanee to sturgeon. Great drags and easy to work on. Just remember the C3's are not the same as the S models. The C3's are made in Sweden and the S models are made in China.
This is a great little linecounter that will make a great trout reel but spooled up with braid it would work great trolling for salmon too. Honestly if I were going to do that I would go with the 6500 though.
