Questions about KastKing Sharky III Fishing Reel - New Spinning Reel - Carbon Fiber 39.5 LBs Max Drag - 10+1 Stainless BB for Saltwater or Freshwater - Oversize Shaft - Super Value!
Q:
Can this reel switch from left to right hand
Answer: Yes, this reel can switch from left to right with ease. Just about all of these types of spinning reels are capable of that.
Answer: Yes, just unscrew the reel handle and the stop on the other end and swap the side the reel is on.
Answer: Yes I switched mine over
Answer: Yes. You simply remove the handle, and attach it to the other side.
Answer: Yes I fish it as a lefty
Answer: Yes it can
Q:
What size reel would be good for 7' Medium light rod?
Answer: I have 2 of the 4000 models on my 7 foot rods. They work like a charm. The 3000 would probably work just fine but I got the 4000s for the added capacity for long distance fishing from shore.
Answer: What is the weight capacity on the rod? If it's for 35lb then I would definitely go for the 4000. If your pole is for 25lb then get the 3000
Answer: I would go with 3000.
Answer: I got a 3000, works perfectly
Answer: 3000
Q:
Does the sharky III 4000 have a bait clicker?
Answer: I have the 5000 and its line capacity is 190 yards of #40 braid. I put #30 to get 220 yards. The 5000 has the same weight as the 4000, 9.5 oz. Depend on the type of fish to catch, if you catch big jack it probably runs 190 yards of the #40 line out. If line capacity is important to you go with Daiwa BG 4500 and up, or step up to Penn Spinfisher V ssv6500. Hope this help.
Answer: No it does not. Check out the KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder III that reel has a bait clicker.
Q:
Does this reel come preloaded with line?
Answer: No it does not come preloaded with line. You will have to buy your own line.
Answer: No the Sharky III does not come preloaded with line.
Answer: No so I paired it with 15 lb braided line from Kast King as well.
Answer: No! you want to choose the line for the type a Fishing you are doing This is a great real you can do a lot of Different type of fishing with it
Answer: No
Answer: No
Q:
Why is the spool have a long wire inside
Answer: No wire on the spool, there’s a rubber middle section so your braid won’t slip when spooling
Q:
Will this reel catch catatafeesh?
Answer: Small catfish. 3000 up would be a better size.
Answer: Use mine for steelhead and salmon. Works great . Like the drag.
Answer: Yes, but only if using Lemmiwinks bait.
Answer: Yes it will!!!
Answer: Yes
Q:
Sharky III bail's wont close by rotating the handle after casting, is that normal? or its manual bail system?
Answer: My Sharky 3 bail will close by turning the handle. A drop of oil may fix this. But using the handle to “automatically” close the bail really isn’t a good practice. It can induce a “loose spot” in your line that can cause birds nest when casting, and is actually kinda hard on the reel. I suggest manually closing the bail every time.....you and your reel will love it!!
Answer: It is normal.
Q:
When will this be available for shipping to Singapore? Currently I'm unable to do so.
Q:
what line should i use for the 5000 aim doing freshwater fishing for bass and pike
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: We would recommend kastPro or Super Power braid. We do have a Premium Monofilament if you prefer mono. Pair your line weight with your rod and the type of fish you are looking to catch. 30-50lb should be good for Mucky or Pike.
Answer: I spooled mine with 30 lb Kastking Superpower braid.
Q:
Is kastking sharky 3 3000 sold out?

What is the difference between 3000 4000 ect.
Answer: The 3000 weighs 9.4oz the 4000 weighs 10.5oz

Q:
What size would you recommend for the (somewhat rough) north florida surf? i use a shakespeare ugly stik 10' medium-heavy surf rod.
Answer: It’s medium sized reel.I didn’t use it yet. Maybe not bad.
Answer: Sharky BF 6000
Q:
Can this reel be used for trolling with a down rigger?
Answer: Hi David,
Answer: It could be but depending on the species of fish you may want to go a bigger size in the reel. I use this for drop shot here in northern cal. And it capable of catching largemouth bass as well as spotted bass up to 5,6 Lbs.
Answer: Don't see why not, but depending on how deep, you might need thicker lines.
Q:
Can I buy a spare spool for this reel? I couldn’t find a spare spool when I searched.
Q:
I looking for Rod for Sharky 3 1000 telekopic?and for ultra light fishing

Answer: Hi,
Answer: I'm sure you can but you won't get 200 yards of braided line at 50lb test on it

Q:

Answer: The 3000 is a good all around size
Answer: I used 35lbs braided line for my main line and 17lbs flourocarbon for my leader.

Answer: Get the Sharky III 5000 model would definitely fit a smaller 6’Rod and it’s not bulky at all would be perfect for your needs ????

Q:
When will a 1000 size be available?
Q:
Would this be a good soft bait reel, like worms or tubes for bass fing in freshwater?
Answer: Yes this would be a good reel for soft plastics like worms and tubes. I just recently purchased one of these for the same purpose have been very happy with the reel so far.
Answer: I don't see why not. It cast smooth and has a great retrieval.
Answer: Absolutely! 75% of what we use it for.
Answer: Yes great choice.
Q:
Does reel fit berrypro surf fishing rod https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/b07prsss7j/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=a200b1kk9ox8jb&psc=1
Answer: I'm afraid I have to say, don't buy this reel. I now own 2 and will eventually replace them. The 39.5 lb drag that I was amazed by before purchase just makes a wrong noise. It never seemed right and after a couple fish i guess has turned into trash.
Answer: The Sharky 3 5000 is small for a rod over 8ft long. It’s very small for a 5000. The bait feeder models are larger. (. The 5000 baitfeeder and 5000 non baitfeeder are not the same size). I would go with the 6000 baitfeeder
Answer: yes
Q:
I need a bigger knob that will fit this reel, can anyone tell me wbat will work ?
Answer: Contact the company who made it.
Q:
Whats the best reel and rod set up for catfish and max line weight?
Answer: Depending on the size of cats you're going for, I'd use a size 4000 or 5000 reel with a heavy size KastKing catfish rod. Use 50,65 or 80 lb. braid
Answer: The two largest KastKing Sharky's would be in my opinion best suited. Cat's can get pretty big, really tax your entire rig system. Consult the catfish fishing forums for specifics regarding appropriate rigging, lines, leaders and especially the rod. I am primarily an inshore, light rigged saltwater angler and occasional trout hunter.
Q:
Is this reel salt water rated?
Answer: Its utter trash. I only salt water fish. Mine lasted fights with 2 snook and 1 redfish before the drag just quit working. All of this stuff - the rods, the reels that is kastking or sougilygang is all just trash. Spend a little extra for a Penn Fierce combo which is 10x the quality.
Answer: It is rated for salt water use. I have used it for a year now and been happy with it for the price
Answer: I believe it says that in the description. That's is why I bought it--to use in salt water.
Answer: I have the Sharky Baitfeeder 111 6000 on a 10' mh surf rod & like it very much, No Problems
Answer: I bought this mainly for saltwater fishing and it has served me well so far. After fishing just tighten the drag, rinse (don't sock) thoroughly and then leave to dry. Once dried up, release the drag and store till next trip. Hope this helps.
Answer: Yes it is
Answer: Yes it is.

Answer: Mine broke the 10th time I used it. I wouldn't put any faith in these reels.
Q:
I didn't get the right reel i got a bait runner instead of a sharky3 5000
Answer: Sounds like you need to go back to customer service of the supplier.
Q:
Will the 3000 size hold and perform with 12lb mono ok ? I noticed it recommends 10lb at the highest...i'll be using trilene big game 12lb.
Answer: I got 12# on one of mine. Can't put as much, but the reel seems to work just fine, casting and retrieving.

Answer: None. It's junk

Answer: In my opinion, no, you need a minumim 6000 series reeal for a surf rod.
Q:
What's the max size braid line can the 5000 reel handle?
Answer: It's not a huge reel so i would stick with 30-40 lbs max otherwise you won't have a whole lot of line on the reel.
Answer: 40 to 50 lb Max! I use 40lb personally myself And I think that works good with the drag rating of the real!!
Answer: All braid has a different thickness the braid I use I can put up to 80lbs and be fine just depends what your using it for
Q:
What size would you recommend for a 10’ surf casting rod setup for stripers? I will mainly be throwing pencil poppers. Thanks!
Answer: The 5000 is the largest and would be considered to small for that set up. Take a look at the 8000 and 10,000 Sharky II
Answer: It looks like a good reel but l live in Vt. We don’t start fishing until April.
Q:
What is the mono line capacity of the 2000 size reel?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I'm not sure, I have the 4000
Answer: I don't know I have the 4000.
Q:
Can this be used in Freshwater?
Answer: Absolutely. Any reel can be used in freshwater, it's saltwater that can be tough on reels with mostly corrosive parts.

Q:
When is the sharky 3 300O going to be available
Q:
Pairing the 4000 w/ the ugly Stik elite 7’ medium heavy for spotted sea bass. What’s best braided line for this combo?
Answer: 30lb braid 50lb mono leader
Answer: Do you like chocolate, strawberry or vanilla? They are all good. Get one that will handle the weight of your intended catch and pick a brand that appeals to you for whatever reason.
Answer: I personally use 30lb with mine.
Q:
I have a 7ft heavy penn pole/rod, i plan to fish with it off of the pier and also deep-sea fish with it... which Reel do you guys recommend
Answer: We would recommend the largest size, the 5000.
Answer: 5000
Q:
What kind of rod works with the 4000? Is this overkill for small lakes? Bass and trout?
Answer: Yes, i think its overkill for small lakes. I got the 2000 myself and its perfect for even inshore saltwater fishing. I personally think it holds more line for a 2000 then other brands out there.
Q:
Can the handle be switched from for left or right handed?
Answer: Yes ambidextrous
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Which is best for primarily bass fishing? I am torn between the 2000 and 3000, opinions?
Answer: I have the 5000 it is super lite. Super fast and super strong. I wouldn't get the 2000 or the 3000 because the 5000 is good for any type of fishing. I have 135 rods with penn , king cast, shimano and some other and i can tell u this is one of my favorite. Thanks
Answer: Most of the bass and catfish I catch are 1 to 3 pounds, occasionally up to 5. For my purposes, the 3000 is just perfect!
Answer: Hi there,
Answer: 2000
Answer: 2000
Q:
When are more available?
Answer: Never
Q:
I just got into bass fishing i wanna know which size reel should i get and should i got for a medium light are just medium rod?
Answer: Strip Bass fishing, if you're surf casting and not out of a pier, you could do a medium light with a 3000 sharky, but for boat and pier fishing I suggest a medium heavy set up along with a 3000 series should be a lot easier to get the fish in, but how much fun and experience you want to have with the fight is up to you
Answer: I have the 4000 series, but its for the ocean and western rivers where a typical salmon is 15 lbs or more and pulls like hell. I wind it with BIG GAME 12 lb test. Smaller version of this reel is better for bass. But many use a levelwind style for bass. It should be sized with your line type.
Answer: The Sharky III 3000 is a great universal size for most bass fishing. It would pair nicely with a medium light or medium rod. You would want to consider the size of fish you are looking to catch when selecting the rod type.
Answer: I use a light rod with the 2000 style and it works just fine with it. I'm pretty sure it will work with a medium rod just as well.
Answer: I use this on a drop shot rod here in nor cal. It’s a very nice reel plenty of drag and the 200 is the size I use.
Q:
4000 or 3000
Answer: It really depends on your application. I have the 4000 and I feel that the overall size is smaller compared to other manufacturer’s size 4000 reels.
Answer: 3000
Q:
Where is it made
Answer: Designed in US. Made in China.
Answer: China
Q:
What weight line will it hold?
Answer: I use 25# KastKing KastPro Braided Line on my Sharky3 3000, and it casts smooth as butter.. There is a chart that will tell you the line capacity of each model at the bottom of the product page. It really depends on what style of fishing you are gonna do, which model you choose, and what type of line you choose. each type of line has a different diameter..
Q:
I recently bought the Sharky 3 1,000 and had trouble spoiling it off the bat. The line stays in the bottom. Can someone please help?
Answer: I don’t quite get what your referring too . Spoiling a reel is pretty explanatory?.....
Product reviews of KastKing Sharky III Fishing Reel - New Spinning Reel - Carbon Fiber 39.5 LBs Max Drag - 10+1 Stainless BB for Saltwater or Freshwater - Oversize Shaft - Super Value!
Amazon Customer : Very good for the money but one draw back
Felt this reel is a very good buy for the money based on I own 4 made in Japan Shimano reals to compare them to.
Have not fished with them yet. Chose them over Phlugers due to more BB's and significantly heavier drag.
Will see how they measure up to my Shimano Symmetry reals long considered the best spinning reals under $100.
The only reason why I didn't give the reel four stars was it didn't come with a spare spool. First reel I ever bought that didn't.
Capt. RL : Not a 5000 size reel, not even close
I took the risk and purchased a couple of these in 5000 size.. What I received isn't any bigger than a standard 3000 reel. If this is their 5000 size, it has no line capacity whatsoever. As a 30 year saltwater guide, I've never seen a 5000 spinning reel half sized like this one. Very discouraging after reading all the reviews. I'll be happy to change my review if I receive a 5000 size reel following the standard of proper size with the rest of the spinning reel market.
Johnny L. Nolan : Seems strong
Send to be a nice reel. It isn't what I was expecting from reading the line size it will handle. It doesn't hold 20 lb monofilament. It is a maximum of 16. Maybe I read stuff wrong! But was expecting a larger reel size. Overall I think it will be a good reel in the long run! Can't fault the company for my mistake......
Scott B. : Awesome reel!
I was hesitant prior to purchasing, but I'm so glad I did. This thing is a smooth-casting machine. The drag is solid and it holds 300 yards of 40lb Power Pro easily. It is a little smaller than I was expecting, but there have been no issues with inshore and light offshore fishing action. I will likely purchase at least one more of these, as well as a larger model if I can find one. It compares well with Okuma and Pflueger reels of the same size.
Chet : Not a bad little reel
Ok so far reel has been very good. I use it maybe a few times a month when we're at the beach on a 10 ft surf rod with 30lb braid. I've been able to cast quite far. Smooth and seems to be holding up to the saltwater. I've caught all types of fish Snook, Permit and small sharks. I rinse after each use, this is very important if you fish saltwater. Only concern is the size. The 5000 I purchased is about the size of a 3000 or at best 4000 series Penn reel. Reel seems small for its listed size. But so far it's been working great as the occasional surf reel.
Korey Cox : Great for the price!
Have taken it both saltwater an fresh water fishing. Sadly the saltwater trip was a sunk but the reel worked wonderfully paired with a 10' Penn Squadron rod. On the fresh water trip it pulled in countless cat fish with ease(Paired on a 6' Shimano FX). I had to loosen the drag to allow my children (3&4 years old) to enjoy the fight a little. I highly recommend this reel the castablility is amazing and the retrieve is silky smooth with great line lay! Can't wait to try more from KastKing
Richard : I have a durable and reel for sure..
I so apologize I wrote a review yesterday I regret sending . I had a change of mind ..I wrote a bad review when I shouldn't of ..I should of waited till I actually use the reel that I thought was all plastic..I was wrong so wrong.. ..its actually mostly metal parts I thought was plastic..but after I used the reel on a adventure in sweetwater lake in spring valley, California.i was so happy with my reel and fishing experience. I love it .I'm actually so proud to own it thank you and thank you kast king for the awesome product such craftmanship and quality!!#
Eric Wiaderny : Tight lines my fam ;)
Just received this reel couple days ago and right after work today I was able to stop by a shop to grab some line to get the reel wet and slime from the fish. Loading line is not a stress factor what so ever. The reel got a rubber section with multiple grip spots so your line won’t slip around after the first few turn to toss line on after that it was fast and furious with no miss laps.
Went to a few local pond to find some lbs and all I can say it’s smooth tossed some 3-4” swim baits and other plastic and end up catching a 13.5” and 16” lmb. Drag setting is great and no lock ups.
Highly recommend getting it.
Kat : Reliable at a great price
Have used a Sharky III 2000 for 2 years fishing 1-2 times per week 40 weeks a year. I have used it primarily in fresh water but have used several times salt water fishing for specs, reds, & flounder. I have it spooled with KastPro #15 and it is a smooth today as it was 2 years ago. Recently bought a 3000 which is working just like the 2000. Will probably add a 4000 for heavier salt water fishing from the surf. I have been using an alternate brand in the same price range but will be converting them to Sharky III's when they need replacing. Just can't beat the quality and reliability at this price.
David L : One of the smoothest reel with great value..
One of the best value reel I have this year (2018) for under $55. However, time will tell. For now it is worth to take a look if you are looking for a new spinning reel. The carbon drag, water resistance, braid ready, screw in handle are convenience few features that is worth to mention. This reel is very smooth and butter than my other new reels from Daiwa (Legalis LT, Fuego LT ) and Okuma. However, Daiwa LT reels are lighter and cost more. But it does mean that Sharky III is heavy. Sharky 3 is a lot lighter than the Penn and it is also well built.
So far no cons. I hope it will last a few seasons.
Snookie monster : Do not waste your money!
After looking at many different reels i felt confident buying the kast king based on excellent reviews. I ordered two kast king 5000 reels. When they arrived i was pleased with my purchase and couldnt wait to try them out. I loaded both reels with 25lb braid and headed out to fish. Everything seemed great casting, retrieveing, line lay etc. Then it happend... i hooked up to a very small snook and about three cranks into the fight i notice the reel become very stiff and i hear something hit the ground. In short the cap for the handle came off along with a bearing and a plastic washer. The reel is completely useless at this point and I LOST MY FISH. The other reel seemed to perform well, but my gut tells me its time is very limited. I wouldnt recommend this reel to anyone and i will be going back with more reputable manufacturers in the future. The money saved isnt worth the hassel of dealing with terrible quality equipment.
Skitter : Not too shabby...
Well the Sharky arrived today in good shape with nice packaging and boxing. Very impressed with the documentation came with it.... very thorough. I purchased the 2000 reel which is notably larger than the Pfleuger President LE it competes with. I bought this for my son's light rod (to mirror mine) and I prefer the smaller footprint of the PLE but my son likes the Sharky better. The variance in 10lb braid the two reels hold is so nominal so it's not worth noting. As for performance... I took it out last night and fished it. It performs on par with the Pfleuger PLE, has just as buttery reeling mechanics, just as solid on the fish-fight-load retrieve and gear ratio, and it just plain ol' looks good. It's a good reel but I would have preferred to see it at a price point below the Pflueger PLE. If it holds up over the fishing season the way the PPLE has... I'll up the rating to 5 stars.
Update Oct 2020: The reel has caught many-a-fish and is just as buttery smooth as day one. We release the drag and lube the reel for off season storage... we do our part... the reel has done it’s. Upping to 5 stars as promised.

REC : Super nice spinning reel
I have been doing research for a new spinning reel, medium to medium heavy reel for walleye and bass fishing, and came across the Sharky III. It was in the top 10 best spinning reels and I looked at a lot of surveys. I had never heard of KastKing before doing research. I have been a die hard Quantum and Pflueger guy for many years, but decided to give KastKing a try. I purchased the Sharky III and a KastKing Perigee II Fishing Rod and was amazed at the quality and look of both the rod and the reel. Upon using the combo for the first time I was essentially hooked on KastKing. Excellent casting, smooth drag, and great feel above and beyond what I expected for a combo of this price. I have spent 150+ on rods and reels alone, but this combo was just over a 100 bucks and worth every penny. Spooled it with 8# braid, and use it daily.
Kayakfisher : Kastking internal mechanism breaks too quickly
I had a Kastking 4000 for less than a year and used it less than a dozen times before the mechanism that prevents the bail from backing up when a fish bites broke. I advised Kastking of the defect and was promised a shipping label to return the reel after I emailed a photograph of the reel to confirn its identification. That was two months ago! Never heard from them since! I'm very disappointed especially since I've bought two Kastkings from Amazon already.
Michael Ferrara : Good to Go!
I bought two reels, this one and the gold version. I lined them both with KK 30lb braid all the way to the outer edge and paired them with Star Stellar Lite surf rods, 7' and 8'. I experienced absolutely no wind knots casting 3/4 oz - 2 oz lures. I have not used the drag yet, no big fish. I look forward to hooking a big one. So far it is a much better reel experience than my last reels, tsunami guard and shield. All are in service for bad drag systems on arrival. I look forward to updating this post after I catch some big ones to report on drag. **update: Drag is very weird now and there is clicking internally. drag pulses, seems out of balance. The gold version I bought seems to be doing better. maybe that is a better way to go.

Gus : Flawed design
It has a major design flaw. There is a gap Katherine enough to allow the line to get caught under the mechanism. After a few times I just gave up and put it away. Totally useless.
Saulo Ventura : Sizes run small, if you want 4000 size, go for 6000
Overall it looks very well made, sturdy and very attractive. The handle is very smooth and I love the braid ready metal spool..
That being said, there's one piece of information that I didn't see anywhere, which would've been good to know...
Their sizes run small
I got the 4000 size because the description said it can hold 200 yards of 40lbs braid, so my thinking was that if I'm putting 20lb braid in it, it can easily hold at least 350 yards.
I got a 200 yard spoll of mustad 20lb braid and it filled up before I could even see the center of the spool.
I'm sure this is a very good reel, but offshore kayaking (which is what I got it for) it's much too small. I'll try it out anyways since I got it, but I'll have that fear of getting spooled...
Johnny Delgado : Fell apart after light surf fishing.
I bought this reel for light salt water fishing. After fishing for an hour on light surf I realized the handle was wobbling and I realized the handle cap screw was missing. I thought maybe it was my fault maybe I didn't tighten the cap enough but it was actually a part from the reel body that the cover threads onto that had came apart along with a bearing. customer service was really nice and helpful and are willing to replace the reel or refund it. other than that I liked the reel but I would rather keep it for fresh water use.
Mike Bowers : Works great !
I bought this reel to put in a rear rod holder with live bait while I was casting lures from the front and didn’t a fish to pull the rod out while I’m not looking. I’ve caught Spanish mackerel, jacks, and various other varieties and the reel has performed flawlessly. The most surprising thing to me is the drag is very smooth and so far no problems.
Carcosa : 1 out of 3 reels spools unevenly
I have 2 other Kastking Sharky 3 reels.. a 4000 and a 5000.. I just purchased another one (5000) for a new rod I bought, and I spooled on 30lb braided and it spooled very unevenly filling up the back/bottom and leaving the top with almost no line.
I looked up the fix online and it said to make it spool more at the top I need to remove the spool and take out a washer, unfortunatly the reel only has one washer. I will try fishing with it the way it is but i might have to return it. Before I do that I'm gonna take it to the local sports store and see if they can fix it.

Kindle Customer : Right in the box it impressed me
I buy lots of reels, Daiwa, Shimano and Penn mainly. I expected little for a $50 reel but this is like others twice that price. Well packaged. I would have liked a slightly thinner spool spacer due to the very thin line i use(berkley x9) but will call the company and see if i can get one. nice reel.
Sinbad : Hand the kids fishing rods at the beach - Rinse gear at the end of the day - Repeat!
This Sharky III has been out with me and fam on several fishing trips. It’s been abused under kids hands, dropped in the sand when unpacking, dropped on the surf because kiddo was scared when the perch came off the hook and all 5” of the flopping fish was “attacking” him. Rinsed the reel with sea water and was surprised I didn’t need to break down the reel to clean off every grain of sand. The reel still ran as smooth as if was right out of the box. I can’t say the same for the other brand reels which felt like grinding pepper. Planned on replacing my “pepper grinders” with Sharky reels in the very near future.
Update: Aug 17, 2019
Hmm, there's an Amazon box on my porch. What could it be (Wink)!
Update: Aug 25, 2019
I just shook the reel to remove loose sand and fished the rest of the day with sand on the reel. It still ran smooth the entire time (photo)... even with fish on the line :)

Cathie D. : Nice braid ready reel
I bought this mainly for freshwater bass fishing and some shoreline saltwater fishing. A small but nice thing is that it comes ready to spool braid line on it. No worries about the braid slipping or tying a leader on first...just spool it on. I've got the 4000 model and it casts and reels in very smoothly. So far I'm very pleased with it. Definitely much better than other reels at this price. Just be sure to clean it properly when saltwater fishing (don't blast the reel with water, just wipe it down).
Orange Blossom : Very disappointed
I have never left a bad review, I always try to find the bright side to everything, but can’t with this reel.
I was so excited to give this to my husband for Christmas.
Late January we got to take a quick fishing trip and he was able able to get 3 successful casts before the line jammed up in under the reel. Luckily, we always travel with a couple spare rods ready to go. Next morning he threw away the brand new line and bought lighter weight line and restrung it. Got two casts out before the same thing happened.
Now during quarantine he tried again with more new line... same results....
Total waste of $80+ Very disappointed

Dale Solomon : Give it a try
I have a lot of experience fishing. I have competed at a very high level of fishing. I was just looking for an inexpensive basic spinning real. I was very surprised at the quality of this spinning real. I have compared it to my name brand, more expensive reels, and wished I would have known about this brand when I was paying three times for the same quality of gear. It is smooth with a smooth drag system. I would definitely recommend this product for people to try before spending more for a product that doesn't function as well.
J. L. Smithling : Finally got it taken apart.
When I spin it, the center shaft goes up and at the bottom of the cycle it locks.
I will grease and put back together but this reel is inferior to many older (some even 40 years older)
This is my second Sharky III and both are more trouble than they are worth.
Edit. These are cheap crap. I no longer have them attached to any rods. I attached the spool to a drill so I can respool other reels that aren't so disappointing. They will go in the bin eventually.
The Riz : I couldn't be more pleased. I chose the 3000 to go with my ...
I am sure I will boost the Sharky III to a 5 star rating once I have had a chance to use it for awhile. For now, its high quality was obvious the minute I picked it up. It makes a striking combination with my Ugly Stik as both are black trimmed with red. The follow up from customer service is what one expects from a seller whose top goal is buyer satisfaction. I couldn't be more pleased. I chose the 3000 to go with my 6' light Ugly Stick as both are compatible with 8 lb mono...my line of choice. I really think everyone looking for a spinning reel needs to get this one in their hands. It sells itself.
Eddy Tor : Surf, rinse, a little WD40, good to go.
This is my surf and rockfish catching reel. Used it in the surf for perch, off rocks and jetties for rock fish. I took a chance on buying it January of 2018 and passing on the spendier brand names and have been very happy with. I have had it in the surf with sand swirling in the water, still works. I had a couple of the “brand reels” fail doing that before. I mean, you don’t intend to do but, if you in the surf sooner or later your reel will go in. Climbing down a cliff on the Oregon coast once, I slipped and face planted, (embarrassing when you’re with friends), rod and reel submerged in mud. I rinsed it of and fished it the whole day.
Surf, home, rinse, dry, a little wd40, good to go.
Very pleased with this reel.
David : It's been holding up as my surf fishing rod for ...
It's been holding up as my surf fishing rod for about 2 months. It get lots of salt water on it but I lube it up and heavily rinse it with fresh water afterward.
Will update if things go wrong.
alex : Overrated reel only popular online
I used this reel and another $100 Daiwa BG reel and a few cheap reels.
This reel is better than the $10 cheap reels, but a lot worse than the $100 Daiwa reel. It is not very smooth.
When you reel in with a 5oz sinker, you can feel it is not smooth.
I don't see other friends using this one. Their Daiwa and Shimano reels at similar prices are better than this one.
I don't recommend this reel.
Killereef : Kastking Sharky 3 2000 and 4000 series
The spinning reels are good for the money. I wont go through and talk about the spec, you can read that yourself. The reel is basically plastic and the handles feels a little cheap. over all good reel for the money and a plus that it is sealed. I used it in the lakes and pulled in 10 lbs fish easy and I used it in the ocean. I like it so far. When i used it salt water, i normal rinse my reel after.
john : Broke after only a few times using it
The durability of this reel is not good at all it snapped after only a few times using the reel I don't know why I only use it once in awhile I have many reels
S. Chaney : Smooth and quiet
Let me start by saying this is the first rod and reel I have purchased as an adult. My experience level is beginner to intermediate. I had fished with loaner rigs before now. For the weekend bass and crappie fishing I do, this has served me well this season. I paired this reel with a KastKing Royale Legend spinning rod. I have purchased several other KastKing products, and I am highly satisfied by the quality and value.
evangerald : Undersized reel?
First impressions of this reel were how nice the finish was on it (painted) and just how small and light it was for the actual size that it was listed. From what I’ve found this reel and those in the same line run a little small. I purchased a Sharky 4000 size reel and more in betweento a 3500 and 4000 size. For example, the 4000 is rated for a minimum of 220 yds of 25 lb braid but I wanted more yardage, so I bought 327 yds of 20 lb KastKing braid. I thought I would have a bit extra if any at all but I still have about 1/3-1/4 of braid left which lie easing me to believe the listed capacities are off. In terms of performance, I’ve only had one chance to use it so far but it casted and retrieved well. Even tested its balance and seemed to create minimum wobble, if any.
Barry A. Brown : The BEST Bang for your buck!
This Reel has everything that used to look for in reels that I would pay between $120 and $240 for. So far it is standing up GREAT!
I originally bought one for my father, he picked it out and I was so impressed with it I bought one for myself. Earlier today I ordered my 2nd KastKing rod and reel to use for the Fall Steelhead Run. I guess this will be the REAL test if they hold up as well as my old go-to, Shimano / St. Croix set ups!
Kyle C. : Cheap
I've had this reel for 2 months now, and I used it once in a freshwater lake. The reel was used from a boat and never got dunked. I took it out yesterday on the kayak and it was binding up so bad it had become a chore to use. I had the Sharky II for a year or so with good luck. It ended up failing due to me not cleaning it after saltwater from a recent trip. For the money I expected this one to last more than one trip out.
