Who's in!?!
Lets start seeing some June bass!
In
Funny, I had my best day yet this year! Will post pics later. (Posted in Maryland Who's Who) In! And I promise no drama, haha.
Think 21" is fair for this one.
Good for 18.5" here
Im in.. hows it work?

Just take a pic of you fish next to the measuring device, post it up. Longest 5 fish wins it
I'm in even tho I'm stilling figuring out the best way to measure from my kayak
Mike , take a look at the last post on page 8 of the May thread. I made this and carry it on my yak also. I have a 36 inch one for pike fishing and a 24 inch one I usually carry in the yak. I just tacked on to a wood piece a 24 inch part of a yard stick. You could also draw measure across the top . side of your yak with a permanent marker. even though it is permanent marker it will still fade out with the sun.
If you look back in the may thread you will see several of us do this across our jon boat seats also. , also made one that goes on top of the cross member of my canoe.
I am in. Caught a bunch of 2-4 lbers today but didn't take any pics.
Nice work last month Maine. Nice start to June Mar. Lets see those post spawn long ones.
For the prize this month I'll offer up a dredge kit from siebert outdoors
OK ~ That puts me in. ( MI is in the Northeast section )
There may be some night ops fish entered here as well as a couple of Brown Bass.
This is cool and I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.
Good Luck All.
A-Jay
In, hopefully i get to fish more this month.

Great to have you A-Jay, all the fish I entered last month were smallies lol... Of course my biggest fish of the year (4-6) was caught right at the end of april, would have been a good addition to last month.
Definitely looking to have a better month and move up in the AOY standings!
LEADERBOARD:
MARs: 39.5" - 21", 18.5" - 2 fish
17" for me, hope to cull this out soon
Here is 17" mudder from a quickie on Monday.
Obviously the competition is fierce here..hopefully I will be able to cull this one out later..
Stopped by a nearby waterway and picked up this 16" loverboy
I didn't see her coming in with him but his big girlfriend was there to pick him up when i let him back in the lake and the two swam away together! I wish I wouldve caught her instead as she was much bigger!
Fish love.. must have been spawning or something..kinda touches my heart

Great to have you! I can't tell if that's a hard measuring device or not... We've had problems in the past so the rule is hard measuring tapes or boards only... I'll count this fish
Its the metal retractable measuring tape from a berkley scale.. can I use that or no
On 6/5/2014 at 8:42 AM, einscodek said:Its the metal retractable measuring tape from a berkley scale.. can I use that or no
Yeah that's fine, I was on my phone earlier and couldn't tell, thanks
I am going to make a wider and more clearly marked portable boards. These are not readable too easily.
Unfortunately one is not viewable very well. and she was the biggest one. She hit a 4 inch Black Jitterbug the moment it hit the water. and those things cast a mile. It took what seemed like forever to get her in. I thought it was a huge smallie the way it fought and jumped. (i wish i could have seen it but it was way too dark) And being it was at the far end of the cast, i did my best to get her back in the water as fast as i could.
Alright Nev, here's what I made out from the pics the first fish 22" - not touching on the left side so I'm not gonna give the 22.5"
Second fish, 18" -18.5"
Third one you gotta help me out, you know what the length was?
Got a bunch of 16-17 inchers yesterday. Heading back this afternoon. I will post photos tonight or tomorrow morning so I can get on the board. I will hopefully end up culling all 5 of them.
Nev and Mars nice fish !
You guys weigh em ?

Unfortunately I did not. I do not have a scale yet. If I had to guess I was thinking right around 6 lbs. I was just happy a father and son were near by to snap a picture of me with the fish, haha.
Thanks Nate. No weights on mine. Lots of time i don't weigh them. If they feel like they are gonna be a 6+ then i will weigh them for sure if i have a scale with me.
The metal screw in the pic after the tail is at 22 1/2 - and the lines are every 1/2 inch --- lets go with a conservative 21.
here is another 18 from Round Pond in Nashua this morning. Jitterbug [ you and your buddy should try this place in your canoe. It is right off Amherst st in Nashua
so we will go with 22 - 21 - 18 - 18 - 4 fish 79 inch sound good ? If you dont agree feel free to correct or toss the one the pic is not so good.
i just made a new board and put the ruler on it

All the LM were 16" or bigger with the biggest in length 18 1/2 inches, but caught one 18 1/4 that was alot fatter. Good to get on some decent fish was hoping for bigger but still a fun day. So here is an 18.5 and 18.25 for me to add.

I am enjoying my lead while it lasts. Both Maine and Shane are due up to the plate soon. And they usually swing for the fences.

What size mouse do you have. I have the smallest one but prefer to use frogs instead. The mouse seems to fill up with water a lot faster than my spro frogs

The biggest one, I wasn't having problems with the water filling up until last night actually... I caught fish on it even when its filled with water and walking back and forth just beneath the surface. When I make shorter casts and the bait hits the water softer it doesn't get as much water in it... Regardless of that I still love it, definitely my new favorite hollow body surface lure. The walking action is SUPERB. I throw the big mouse on a 7' MH F St. Croix mojo with a Daiwa T3 Ballistic (7.1:1) with 65 pound power pro... I really like that setup because I can get nice long casts when I'm throwing Rage toads or shads and any hollow body baits, even heavier ones like the big field mouse...
This is from the other day..

------ they have 2 sizes
i use these a lot on top f the weeds and in the grass. I like the white and the pink. they have worked well for me. I use garlic spike it on the tail, i dunk the tail right in the bottle, and i dunk the head in smelly jelly. I believe the stuff gives a 1/2 second or 2 longer before they spit it out. Helps me with hook sets. It works really well in the grass. I twitch real real slow. works well especially when the water is only a foot or so deep. I will cast it right onto the shore and twitch it right into the water. Many strokes come with in 2 feet of shore. My thinking is if i dropped it in the water instead of the shore , i will spook more than get a reaction bite. I also throw it right into the brush, hang it in the brush and then drop it off the brush into the water. less commotion less disturbance in the water.
I also take the hooks on many of them and bend them up just a bit with my needles nose pliers. -- i dont do all of them, sometimes i really need more weedless to stop with hangups, other times i want less weedless but easier hook set. they are very soft. and in the warm weather even softer. I have probably 1/2 dozen of them but mainly white and pink. You will catch turtles and snakes with them also. The 3 big turtles i have caught have all been on these, and 1 water snake at turtle pond in concord.
Lets add this one. all the others were less than 18 inch. the word of the day is blue rage craw weightless. I used several things in the rain this morning till i finally got some bites. zero on anything till i went to Blue Bug Rage craw with sparkles weightless. a 1/2 dozen fish , this being the biggest one. They were hitting it before it hit bottom. About 12 feet deep. a good 20 feet past where the weeds ended.

Nice catches Nev, JB. I got out twice this week after work for about an hour each. Nothing over 18" though. Looks like I will get some in next week for a few days.
I ad some free tie this morning to get out fishing today. Got onto the water about 6:30 this morning and fished until 1:30 pm. It was slow but productive fishing. The water temps were in the mid 66-70 degrees. It was overcast the most of time I was fishing. I caught fish on jigs, chatter bait and rubber worms. Landed 8 largemouth and 2 smallmouth.
Fish # 1
21.5 inches 5 lbs 14 oz

You guys doin some good work up north there.. good fish.

Still got these to submit though..

I smell some PIG smallies!
Found these 2 in the shade this morning. Fished a few different areas with craws and ring worms not a single bite. Fished some grass and weeds in full sun with same as well as weedless white and dark frog twitching. Threw on a chugger knocker spook and found these 2 about 14 feet of water and no lilly pads or weeds. Was casting with my back to the shore.

nice job Maine. Yes night fishing can be fantastic. Even better in a boat. especially now that a lot of water is at the 70 degree area. I hope to get out this weekend for some night time fun. My first go to for night is a 4 inch broken tail rattling jitterbug, i changed out the rear hook for a bigger one. I also turned them out just a tad for a better hook-up rate. Buzzbaits next always with a trailer hook. Then spinner baits with double or triple colorado blades for lots of noise usually in black or dark blue. also big knocking zara spook or heddon crazy crawler
What time of night do you boys generally hit the water and when do you find them generally biting best?
I usually have my best luck from 10-12. I also don't usually stay out to much later then that. I prefer to night fish during a full moon. White buzzbaits, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits are my go to lures. The fish I usually catch at night are 2.5 lbs and bigger.
Some guys / books talk about the 1 am bite being the best there is. full moon time seems to be the best for me too.
I usually get my night fishing till about 10:30 pm. I am up at 4 - 4:30 am rare for me to be out after 10pm. I do try to do a late night midnight to 2 am at least one Sat night.
Fullmoon, midnight, spinnerbaits & blades .. sound advice..
Did you guys ever fish @ night in the early AM into the dawn? The back half of the night?

Don't forget about buzz baits. You can fish these a bit more effectively threw thicker weeds then a spinner bait.
I rarely fish from night into the dawn. I usually am getting up and heading out the next lake about dawn.
Great morning of fishin' .. but none to cull..
Bunch of fish caught this morning. Two 18" but one of the pictures didn'the turn out good. Not sure if I will get out again by July 1st.
Got out yesterday afternoon. The fishing was great 69 bass in the boat. A bunch of 14-18 inch fish and a few good ones as well. I was able to cull one of my smallest fish. This was lunker for the evening. There is some good bass fishing in Vermont.
21.5 inches 5 lbs 2 oz
A couple more days until July. I will be fishing both afternoons in hopes of catching more fish like this and catching up to Nev.
Lets see some more fish guys.
Gave it another shot this morning.. got a couple for culling but was trying for homeruns and instead got doubles.
18"
17" buddy
Power fishin the best I could this morning on the banks. Not ready to go night fishin' yet.. still early in the summer.
Lost two big ones 4lbs+ over the course of the month..one on equipment, other on my mishandling (her big mouth shakin didnt help) had there been no competition I'd not have given them a second thought but boy did my heart sink on each loss.
Even so they may have made up some distance but even they would not have been enough..
Good competition guys.. congrats to the winner.. great fishes everyone.
Some good size fish being caught for June's competition!
Now I can fish for fun again
not sure of i am going to get to fish again till July. I am not so comfortable knowing Maine is going to be fishing. You are only a couple inches behind me.
Today is the last day of June. Fishing again from 4 until dark. Need a couple good fish. Its now or never.
You need 3 x 21" fish buddy.. whats yer strategy for a single summers afternoon?
On 7/1/2014 at 2:20 AM, einscodek said:You need 3 x 21" fish buddy.. whats yer strategy for a single summers afternoon?
Nev has me beat by 2.5 inches as of right now. My smallest two are 20" and 19". So I need to catch another 21.5 incher like I did a couple days ago to cull the 19 ".
My strategy is simple. Catch a big bass !!
My game plan for the afternoon is to fish deep weeds near main lake drop offs. Its been working lately. The past 3 afternoons there have been 56 , 69 , and 45 bass put in my boat by my friend and I. That's 170 bass in three days just fishing from 4 ish until dark 30. I am going to stick to that game plan.
Hey all it takes is one bite...
Thats alot of bass.. you guys must have some awesome unpressured lakes up north there in Maine/VT/NH.. BOL
just sitting here waiting to get passed. wont be on the water i do not think
Hey guys! This is a great idea, you should also check out Trumped, it is a free online fishing tournament hosted by Crestliner. Same idea but with some sponsorship backing. The categories include Bass, Pike, Crappie and Walleye. http://trumped.crestliner.com/
Its free and you can win up to $5000 dollars and tons of awesome prizes from Plano and Frabill. There are two more months left in the competition and not that many people competing.
Just though I would give you a heads up with all the awesome fish on the forum!

Oh so close !!!
Got out this evening form 530 until dark. I took the regional fisheries biologist out fishing to show him how well the lake has been. Betweeen the two of us we caught 40 bass.
Nev you got me beat this month. Congratulations. It was within grasp, just one cast away.
I did catch a 3-12 tonight and 4-3 20 or so incher. It was a bit over 20 more like 20 1/4 or so but it slid down my board.
Here she is.
Just as we were getting ready to leave. I am picking up all my loose things, pliers, scale etc. I start to blast to the launch on 5 when I hear " Hold on I think I am stuck." His rod doubles over. I tell him he has a fish on. He says "OH YA I think so." The bass pulls drag goes under the boat. I grab the net and with a quick swipe net her. It was the biggest bass he has ever caught. A long skinny 22 inch 5 lb 11 oz bass. He didn't want his picture taken. I am always gad to see people catch the biggest bass of there lives from my boat. Just one cast away....
Congratulations Nev. Well done. I am in for next month.
Congrats on the win this month Nev! Let's keep it going.
Better to be lucky than good... Onto July. I am in. Who is going to find those big girls starting to head to some deeper cooler water. Night fishing should be prime time exciting. Some small pond waters down here are already +75 degrees. Should be some real prime fishing upper NH , VT and ME. Especially those smaller waters as they get close to 70.
I will be in for July as well. All the water temperatures I have seen lately have been well into the 70s. I will be night fishing this weekend.
Good job nev. Shoot me a pm and I'll hook you up with some jigs from siebert outdoors
Yeah, great job, Nev. You earned that one! PM me your info, too.
Congrats to Nev!! You guys put up some nice numbers in June. I am curious what your July numbers yield. Fishing has gotten pretty tough down here lately with the summer heat. Best of luck to all of you in July.
