Hello all, I've been trying to fish down here in Miami Florida canals and have been having trouble with snagging weeds and grass with crank baits and they just aren't going after the worms, NOT EVEN SENKOS! I'm brand new to bass fishing and fishing in general to be honest so I wanted to know what types of lures should I use to maybe get a few bites in these canals. Just an FYI im only doing shoreline fishing I don't own a boat. I don't know if that makes a difference but I thought I'd throw it out there lol
Thanks.
Try a swim jig, chatterbait, texas rigged creature baits or craw type. Surface baits like a Rage Shad, Yum Money Dog, KVD Sexy Frog, Booyah Pad Crasher. Try flukes or wake baits for something sub surface, or near it.
Nice thanks a lot, I'm guessing knowledge like that can only come with time right? Lol
Down there a staple is the plastic frog, like a zoom toad or rage toad. Also if they aren't hitting worms, try fishing them slower, I mean slow weightless or with a light weight and just creep it back in. colors, red shad, junebug, tequilla, purples are good colors to throw down here. Cast parrallel to the bank. Look for structures like culvert pipes, trees, dams, weeds etc. and work thoses areas without getting too close. If you have worms I would stick with them, also there are tons of baits, read up on here what works down in Miami and pick a few, talk to a few of the guys.
Will do MCS thanks again!
No luck Kristo?? Miami canals will produce however it depends on many factors. What time did you go? What kind of line and lbs test were you using? The soft plastics that were suggested to you will work however you have summer temps to deal with. Also, you will find what I call "city bass", are very finicky and spooky at times. Your approach has to be subtle and stealth like. If you approach the bank directly, the game is half over. Polarized glasses is a must. Patience, patience patience. I have been skunked the last four times I have gone to my neighborhood canal on the Northern end of Dade county. I did see a nice Snook for the first time in my area canal and missed a peacock bass. You may want to try some finesse worms, for example, smaller zoom trick worms and zoom centipedes. They don't hit those pack it up and go home.
Yea Lou no luck not even today I was just at a canal on 8th st and 137th ave I was there for almost 3 hours using senkos and a crank bait and nothing I saw fish but none of them even looked at my lures....its starting to get a bit frustrating....maybe it's that I go too late (4:30pm is when I leave work and I go fishing at that time) idk what it is but I just want to catch a few bass that's all lol is that too much to ask?
Maybe on the weekend I'll have better luck when I can go out at around 7:30 or 8:00 am....and lou why are polarized glasses a must?
Try to get on a finesse bite. 1/8-1/4oz weight dropshot with a bait of your choice. Zoom baby brush hogs always seem to produce for me in florida canals. Just move the bait slowly, and not so much the weight. Cylinder shaped weights should help to reduce snags, as I also fish really thick weedy canals.

Cool man thanks, where would those really weedy canals be tho? The only bass I've ever caught was in a canal on 8th st next to glades trail out door shooting range you know of any other spots I could try?
Thanks

I'm not really too familiar with the Miami area to be honest, but there's several awesome Miami fishermen here that I'm sure can steer you in the right direction. If I see a canal that looks good, the first thing I'm grabbing to see what's in there is my dropshot setup. Goodluck finding an area that produces, I'm sure you will .
I would try jitterbugs or a KVD sexy dawg or sexy dawg jr. but I think if you would want to have the best chance USE LIVE TARGET LURES! I would use the bluegill or smelt because they both don't run that deep. A live target frog may also produce.
I JUST CAUGHT ONE!!!!!! Lol it was about the size of my lure tho -___- smallest bass I've ever seen!
And i locked myself out of my car -____-
I'm still proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations on the catch! It will get easier, I promise. Try wacky rigging those senkos on a weighted wacky hook with a weed guard.
I second frogs as well.
If the bass are deep and finicky, try some bulkier soft plastics friend. Zoom Super Hogs, Havok Pit Boss, RI Sweet Beaver, or even some 10" worms! Fish them so slowly that it hurts your spirit, and I think you will get some bites!
Thanks Jay, I will definitely give that a try to see of things get easier lol im sure when summer is done things will pick back up I'm gunna try some horny toads this Saturday morning lets see how that goes!
Thanks again Jay
Hey, no problem!
Morning is KEY right now for me. I live in South Louisiana, so I am seeing conditions similar to yours. The evening and 10 pm-12 am night bite is even slow for me right now! I'm thinking that the water temps are still high from the scorching days. Morning seems to be where it's at for me.
I recommend the bulky T rigged plastics over jigs because if rigged properly they come through weeds better than jigs. Good luck!
thanks, yea the heat is killer right now i barely want to be out in the sun i can imagine the bass lol!
What about buzzbaits? Have you tried those?
I haven't tried any buzz baits yet, I've been getting a little too crazy with spending at bass pro...I do have some horny toads which are kind of like buzz baits and I'm about to leave to try those out
This is out of hand guys idk what to do anymore! I've been to millions of spots and canals these past two weeks and nothing is working I've only got one bass and it looked like a shiner....senkos, horny toads, zoom Worms, crank baits, swimmer baits. NOTHING I see the fish but they don't bite...huge peacocks just look at my lure and swim away, my casts are parallel to the bank I cast past the cover and work my way in and nothing.....I need someone to show me hands on cuz I have to be doing something wrong
maybe try downsizing your baits. i know alot of canals in my area have tons of fishing pressure so they have probably seen every lure under the sun.
the few times i hit up the c-100 , i had luck with fluke jr's. you may want a lighter power rod though. another bait which i dont think alot of people use in freshwater is the DOA terror eyez - http://www.doalures.com/store/index.cfm/category/47/terror-eyz.cfm
ive caught pea's back to back on these when they are active and the canal peas love em too. work it fast near the canal walls. look for storm drains, any type of cover, shade and/or bends in the canal.
good luck!
Ahhhhh!!!! So many lure choices lmao!!!
I need to figure out where the fish are and the seasonal patterns of the fish and All that stuff I just get frustrated real easy
http://myfwc.com/fishing/freshwater/sites-forecast/s/metropolitan-miami-canals/
though not incredibly detailed , it gives you an idea on whats working. the canal maps are cool too.
another bait i didnt see mentioned that i love throwing is the zara spook jr with a twitch , twitch pause retrieve. although ive caught em working the bait very fast and erratic.
take your time with each bait and work on your presentation before tying on another. over time youll get confident in certain lures that will become your favorites. ive tried quite a few styles and types but settled on a few that i feel i can always catch fish on. keeps clutter down in your tackle box too!
Awesome man thanks a lot good looking out
Sqhertz, I have completly forgotten about the DOA lures. Thanks for mention.
I might try a Fat Ika or a hollow body frog if those weeds are a problem.
Soft plastic frogs and rage-rigged Space Monkeys and Smoking Roosters might also be options.
KISS theory is the way to fish the canals in southern Florida. Specific baits really don't matter. Take your pick out of a couple general categories. Keep It Simple Stupid.
Texas rigged worms.
Weightless stickbaits or flukes.
Lipless cranks.
Topwater lures. Frogs is its very weedy on top. Spooks if you're in more open water.
Flip into heavy grass.
This time of the year is hard to fish some of the canals. The brutal heat will either make the fish find the deepest water they can, or the thickest grass available. Sometimes both. Look for moving water. If you aren't getting bit, keep moving to another area. Lots of times right now, if you catch one, there will probably be another couple in the same general area.
Awesome guys thanks a million i'll keep my progress posted.....i couldn't tell you guys how much i appreciate everyones help and knowledge!
Kristo,
A shakey head jig with a small finesse worm usually works for me in the Miami Canal this time of year. You will want to work it PAINFULLY slow. Not sure what kind of line you area using, you will want to use a light (6 or 8lb) flouro line, if possible

Im using 10Lb mono
I've tried absolutely every suggestion, 4+ hours of fishing every day for almost 3 weeks and I've caught one fish lol.....
Im giving up for now on actually being out on the water I'm just gonna do my home work and learn as much about these fish and the region I'm fishing in and wait for summer to end because nothing is working..
wish me luck guys
dont give up!
are you out at different times of the day? that can make a huge difference on where the fish are.
as mentioned , do some exploring on google maps and see if you can find some other water in the area besides the canals. i dont know if its just me or not , but i think those canal fish are more finicky than lake fish.
I left the house today at 6:30am, I don't mean I'm giving up on fishing I just mean since this is such a bad time of year to fish especially for a new comer, I'm gunna spend more time studying the sport and then put my knowledge to practice when it's not so hot out....at least when the weather is a little bit less intense and I don't catch anything I won't be dehydrated after only an hour lol.....I wanna have the knowledge in my head before I put it to practice out on the water
One thing I may recommend is to start reading the articles on the bass resource main site.
Start with summer fishing. Then move to articles that discuss HOW to fish the lures that you are using. You can do a lot with what you have, and as you learn more you will gain that versatility.
For example, a senko can be fished weightless on a 3/0-5/0 hook, allowing it to simply fall vertically while wiggling on the way down. This is easiest with spinning gear with an open bail, but you can feed line out of a baitcaster as well.
You can then fish it as a jerk bait if need be.
If that doesn't work, get some wacky rig hooks with a metal weed guard and throw that senko again. Find holes in vegetation. Run it slowly along weed lines or pads that provide shade for the bass.
If that doesn't work, don't cut the hook off yet. Wacky rig a soft plastic through the body and let that flutter near the bottom. That has been killer for me at certain times... Especially with a lake fork magic shad.
One last recommendation is to be there right before daylight. That and sunrise is when summer fishing is best. Throw that frog a mile and cover every square inch of water you can reach multiple times.
I'm heading out and bank fishing in the morning with my girlfriend and her brother. If I find any good patterns I'll let you know, lol.
Most importantly, don't give up! If all else fails, find RUNNING (moving) water and bank fish that way. Moving water will keep fish more active. That may help as well. Good luck!
And if even that fails, buy a beginner fly rod setup or get yourself some panfish tackle and chase monster bream! They can be plenty of fun on the days the bass don't bite. I'm not shy about busting out the long rod on slow days.
I do go out in the morning the sun didnt come up today till seven I was at tropical park throwing by the grass for almost 3 hours and nothing I threw senkos, poppers, horny toads and zoom trick worms and nothing at the crack of dawn... I just want to gain as much knowledge as I can about the fish and the seasons and look for as many spots as I can. I still plan on fishing but maybe only early Saturdays for now till the weather gets a bit better...thanks a lot everyone's help is great on here and I really appreciate it
Kristo, next time your at tropical park throw one your finesse soft plastics on C-rig and work the bottom. That lake as lot of limestone rocks, work your lure slowly over that deep structure. Let me know what happens.
Thanks Lou, is there peacock in there or large mouth? I went to the lake by the baseball fields I didn't go to that big lake where the paddle boats are by the way
Great now I really can't fish, someone stole my tackle box with all my lures and hooks and weights and everything -__- at least I still have my rods now I gotta save up again to buy everything again
Oh man!! That sucks. How did that happen? Your right, save up again and start collecting.
Broke into my car and all they found to take was the tackle box lol....if you could Lou, answer my question about the tropical park lake in the post above the last I made thanks man!!
I am pretty sure there are peacocks in those lakes, I do not know if they are easily caught however. LMB will be in both for sure. Sorry about the car break in.
It's cool man, things happen and money is meant to be spent, I just went to bass pro bought a better tackle box, some horny toads, pearl white, a hollow body pad crasher frog, some super fluke watermelon chartreuse, swimming super flukes watermelon red, zoom black and blue claw craws, a lipless crank bait in gold, some hooks, swivels, and weights to try a c-rig and different other things we will see
THATS IT!!!!!! IM DONE, I NEED SOMEONE TO TAKE ME FISHING this is killing my spirit here guys idk what to do anymore!!!!!!!!!!! :cry3: :cry3: :cry3:
Head down to Louisiana! We will get you on some fish!
Don't give up man! Summer is notoriously rough to find fish in small waters. If you can find some good moving water, it'll certainly help you find some more active fish.
welcome to the club! Ive been getting skunked a LOT. Since I started fishing in march ive caught 4 bass,3 or 4 tilapia and one cat. Only 1 bass in the summer. Dont feel like quitting, this will be experience for next years summer. I try to enjoy and be at peace in the lake even if im not catching anything. I also practice my casting skills when im there. practice my accuracy, my left hand casting and my flipping and pitching. Use the time to get better.
ohhh man thats my nightmare right there. Someone stealing my stuff after Im hundreds maybe close to a thousand in the hole. buddy i suggest you dont go into a shopping spree. buy a couple lures, learn to use them and then buy more. Thats the step I would have taken if I were to do it all over again.
Lol that's what I need man, some nice back country, with some woods, ATV's, fishing gear and a nice quite lake...I tell you man down here in florida it's just nasty heat, nasty people and nasty water noise and cars and noise all day long
Kristo I am sorry you feel that way about South FL. Sounds like your transitioning here from somewhere that was not remotely like where you are now. Is the heat bad? It can be at times. Is the fishing tough this time of year? It can be at times. However based on the little time you have been here, although you have been out numerous times you still are a "rookie" pls do not take the comment as an insult, I am just merely letting you know that once you find that honey hole I think you will be singing a different tune. Patience... bass fishing will take a lifetime to master. Listen to the more seasoned bass fisherman here and they are still growing and learning new ways to fine tune their skills. The more I bass fish the more I find out what I need to work on. Pretty soon when winter comes again and the folks up north unfortunately have to give up bass fishing for a while you will be posting like crazy on how you love fishing here. Learn from this process and experience.
Oh no Lou ive lived here my whole life, i just started FISHING here lol...and I don't take it as an insult I know I'm a rookie my catch rate can vouch for that haha you make a good point that I need patience, which I would normally have but I think the heat kind of makes patience run low...any how I dont take what you say as an insult man you keep me motivated and I thank you
Kristo,
Why don't you PM me your address. I'll send you some lures which I KNOW catch bass in the Miami Canal. I've got more baits than I know what to do with, and it looks like you could use some. I have no time to fish anyway...my boat hasn't been in the water in over six weeks...
The fish are there but they are veerrrrryy lethargic with this 90+ degree water. If you can sneak out after the afternoon rain or very early morning you might have a little better luck. If you are going out in the mid-day heat, you are probably going to need to slow it down. One of the items I am going to send you is a shakey head setup....I'll set the first one up for you....you will want to use it exactly like I have it setup and bring it back very slow on the retrieve. Most of the fish I catch on this hit it after a 4-5 second pause. If you don't get hit on this setup, move, cause the fish ain't there! I will send you a scrounger setup also...I've been having good luck lately, getting some reaction bites with it. A small spook works good in the Miami Canal, especially in the low light periods. Senkos will work there also...try some weightless T-rigged or wacky rigged.
Sorry about you getting your stuff jacked....it's happened to me many times.
Piscicidal, what Kristo has meant to say is fishing Miami urban canals. I don't know if he is aware that there is a canal called the "Miami Canal". That being said I am curious of your shakey head set up you are referring to. I am fishing the miami canal again this up coming Saturday.
If you're ever down my way, you're more than welcome to tag along.
let me know sqhertz!!! PM me when ever
Will polarized glasses work for seeing through canal water down here in the urban canals? I was talking to bassinlou that the pair of polarized XPS sunglasses that i bought at bass pro weren't really helping me see through the water...they weren't really a great pair (only like $20) but they said polarized and they didn't really do much.....would anyone agree that its the murkiness of the water or is it just that the glasses were probably cheap?
I rock M Shades ($35) from Cabelas and they work well. I work at BPS though and the XPS glasses work well. For murkier water like we sometimes have in South Louisiana, amber lenses are key.
Oh ok I guess that was it, but I still have doubts cuz the glasses had the polarized sticker on the lens but I still even saw the glare off top of the water maybe it was a mistake or something
The XPS lenses cut 60, maybe 70% of glare. You have to remember, they are what they are. However, in their price bracket, they aren't too bad.
If you can hunt down a pair of Calcuttas, buy some on the spot. Around 25 dollars with FANTASTIC lenses. I'll buy some if I ever see them again.
But for the most part, people tend to be happy with the XPS. If you got them within 30 days maybe return them?
Moving on... have you landed yourself one of those elusive Miami canal bass yet?
In the month and a half of my fishing career I caught one and it wasn't even a pound.....I'm gunna keep trying tho lol....when I catch one there will be a picture lol dont worry it will be known that I caught one haha!!! Thanks
Keep at it Kristo. Persistence pays off.
Well, I finally got my boat out yesterday...first time since June
Not the best conditions...fishing 12:00-2:00 and bluebird skies. Caught a couple little chunks in the canal, though. I caught all my fish jigging a deep weed line. Nothing was chasing...I had to go "low and slow" to get bit.
Kristo, take note of the color on this jig. You can use another color jig down here, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Awesome man thanks for the pic that's really cool I wish I had a boat!!!
Nothing again today guys.....I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!! Could it be that im using lmb lures for peacock bass? I'm flipping t rigged worms into grass I'm doing top water early in the morning I fishing slow and deep im fishing weightless, weighted everything!!!!
Kristo, say it isn't so. Nothing?? Did you try the set up I PM'd you. The only other explanation about today could be this incoming hurricane is affecting the barometric pressure and its shutting them off. Hey, at least you got out today. I cancelled my trip in the glades because of this system. I will try next Saturday. I expect you to catch something after this hurricane passes.
I went to blue lagoon right into a bunch of Lilly pads and tall grass, there was another guy there with a yo-yo and some night crawlers and he caught 3 little pea's -____- I should just pay the money and go out with a freaking guide lol
And yes Lou I used the paddle tail super fluke jrs
And nothing im going crazy
Keep at it.
I'm running out of ideas here
It isn't about ideas any more my friend. You have been given over the last few weeks a wealth of information from many good anglers. Now is the time for you to put in the hours, learn the waters you are fishing and hone in your skills. I don't want to sound tough on you but that is the way it goes sometimes. Stick with the techniques you are comfortable with and put in the time. All of us who are helping you are/or have gone what you are going through and we are better fisherman for it. Like I have told you several times, patience and keep at it. You are one cast away from your lunker.

a big x2. i remember not catching a fish for a couple months at a time, though i dont go fishing as often as you seem to. it does get frustrating but i used that time to learn new techniques and perfect the ones i knew. mainly dragging baits on the bottom to learn where structure and cover was then go back to them when the bite turns back on.
Yea that's what I was doing this time around I was dropping my soft plastics in the shallow water to see how they look, try to pinpoint my casts and trying to drag and hop my plastics as well....I guess that guy that was there with a yo-yo and little night crawlers threw me off -__- im gunna keep at it
Keep it up man! I'm in Louisiana and am getting your lil hurricane Isaac in the morning, so fishing for both of us will be thrown off for a bit. The fall is an amazing time to be fishing, and it will be here soon enough. I'll be fishing tonight after work if the pressure hasn't dropped yet.
Once the first good cold front comes in, spend every minute you can on the water throwing shad imitators. Spinnerbaits, shad senkos, magic shads/swimbaits, white cranks, even buzzbaits/spinnerbaits/chatterbaits with swimbaits instead of skirts will also do well.
Kristo,
I got your address. I'll send your package out to you tomorrow.
I pre-rigged five baits for you....
1.) Shakey head jig/finesse worm
2.) Scrounger head/fluke
3.) Yamamoto D-shot (rigged)
4.) Skinny dipper/swimbait hook
5.) Jig/trailer
I included an extra package of flukes/worms/D-shot/skinny dippers/jig trailers, for you to rig up future baits similiar to how I did the first one.
I also included various bags of soft plastics. There is some good stuff in there. However, I would focus on the five pre-rigged baits I sent you first (in order). I would add a senko, T-rigged weightless on a thin (non-superline) EWG hook, to that top tier of baits, also.
Just keep plugging away. It's very rewarding when you finally break through that tough fishing and start catching.
Thanks man I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!!!! If you could send me a PM with an ETA I'd greatly appreciate it
I just bought a football head jig and put a baby rage craw as a trailer, a super spook and a torpedo for those peacock! What do you guys think?
The tiny torpedo works good for peacock.
I have better luck on a small jerkbait. X-raps work good as do the small lucky craft pointers. I caught four peacock bass yesterday on a 78mm pointer. I got the fourth one on video...
Sweet man that looks like fun, I gotta learn patience lol
Did you get my pm about the new shipping address?
If your areas are heavily pressured, it definitely helps to throw something different.
I'm liking my new live target field mouse. I threw a frog FOREVER the other evening and after only a handful of casts got a bite on the mouse... In the same locations that the frog was thrown. Just food for thought!
Cool man thanks, I'll try it out....im going snook fishing in sanibel this weekend any tips?
Stay home? Isaac has messed up our fishing for a while. Was it pretty easy on you guys in Florida?
I may get stubborn and try some ponds the weekend after next though, lol.
My brother in law is a big saltwater fan he's been reading reports and told me they say the fishing in sanibel has been great so we will see I guess!!
I'm sure itll be fine!
I've got to be doing something wrong I can't catch any type of fish!!! Bass, snook, cat fish nothing....just got back from 10 straight hours of fishing didnt get a single bite....mean while my 12 year old brother caught 5 catfish my brother in law caught bout 13 catfish and his girlfriend who didn't even know how to cast caught about 10 what the hell am I doing wrong??!???!? Seriously!!!
JUST GOT MY SELF A BONNET SHARK BABY!!!! 5' long fought like a champ what a rush
JUST GOT MY SELF A BONNET SHARK BABY!!!! 5' long fought like a champ what a rush
Nice man congrats on that!
Thanks man!!
nice!
what did you catch her on?
Idk what it's called it looked like a mini peacock bass with a weighted jighead on it and the hook coming out the back
NUMBER 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NUMBER 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NUMBER 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations man! Glad to see you finally cross some eyes! Prepare to get addicted! We're all of these caught on that peacock bass swimbait?
Yep except the last two I caught them on a lipless crank bait, the only thing is that I caught them because they were literally right infront of my face lol I wanna actually cast and catch one for a fight...I'm probably gunna head off to the c-4 canal on 8th st and see if I can catch some with a pop-r or a little square bill crank bait or a torpedo
Nice fish Kristo!!! I am so happy for you. Your persistence is starting to pay off. Bring on the Largemouth.
Thanks man I couldnt have done it without you guys, especially you Lou and pscidicical....I need some large mouth now when fall starts where are those bad boys located?
Kristo,
Good job, man!
We've all been through tough spells...that's when you grind it out, study up (i.e. this site!), try something different, etc... When you finally do break through and start catching, it's an awesome feeling.
There are some great LMB spots down here...Holiday Park, Alligator Alley, Loxahatchee, Okeechobee, Holey Lands...
Awesome man thanks for the info once again!!! It definitely is a great feeling!!! Glad you guys liked those fish
you got it figgured out man! from what I understand those are killer peacocks
NGaHB
Thanks man, I really appreciate it! I almost caught a huge snook in the c-4 canal with a rapala x rap minnow, he went to hit it but missed and I pulled out the lure and he swam away
Snook!!! Awesome. Too bad you missed. Man your on a roll. Awesome. Pretty soon I will be asking you for advice.
lol i doubt that you will lou, not for a long while, i just found this great spot can't wait to try it out with some nice rapala lures!!!!!!!!!!
I am experiencing the same thing now, I have caught a Jaguar Gapote, 2 Peacocks, 1 Large Mouth. Yet, in the last 2 to 3 months, every time I go out, skunk city. I have tried crank baits, swim baits, live shiners, jerk baits, spinner baits, swim jigs - I see fish all of the time swimming but nothing hits my lures. Last week I saw tarpon rolling and mullet jumping -today nothing at all
I fish the canal that run parallel to the turnpike 117 ave close to Bird Road in MIami, florida
Any help would be great
Go to walmart and pick up a pack of Strike King Shim E Stiks in baby bass color. That was the money lure for myself and those that I fished with last summer down in the FL canals. Fish it weightless and let it sink to the bottom on a semi slack line. If you don't get hit, pop it a couple times and let it sink again. Good luck!

Lately, I have been having alot of luck in the canal systems North of your position by using spinnerbaits. You have to vary the speed and depth a bit to see what entices them. Stickworms and flukes will work too. Locate and work cover. During these bright days I like to fish cover the casts long shadows. I nailed a nice 5lbr last weekend by using the same tactics I just explained.
Thanks for the tips - it has been really frustrating - Any specific color in spinner baits did you attach anything to the hook - grub?

I use a different spinnerbait colors. What I throw strictly depends on water clarity and time of day. You want specifics, you can always drop me a PM. No I do not add trailers to my spinnerbaits, only trailer hooks if they are hitting short.
Thanks a million - I have tried spinner baits in the past - it has been a while wonder if I need to change location
