What is your personal favorite lure? I like the Livingston Lures Primetyme SQ 2.0, the Xcite Baits XB-1 Squarebill Crankbait, and the LiveTarget Baitball Popper.
I'd rather throw different types of plastic over any one specific type of hard bait.
I'll cycle threw the whole bag if I have too.
So in keeping with your question, I caught the most fish last year useing a Rage Cut R and a Fat Max ribbon tail.
But tomorrow it could be something different.
Mike
Definitely a rage craw. I can flip/pitch, punch, dead stick, swim and buzz it.
Love all the baits....hard, soft, twitching, walking, cranking. Football jig or a tube would be my money bait.
For the past few years it has been a jig and craw.
That's easy...Topwater!
Frog
Jig or some type of rage product. Least favorite is topwater
Trick worm T rigged, Candy bug
My favorite way to catch fish is a Booyah Pad Crasher,,,,,,,,,,by far.
But when I want to catch fish.............5 inch Yum Dinger,,,,,,,,,wacky or texas rigged.
Pad Crasher
My favorite lure to use is a buzzbait . They are a blast . They dont catch the most fish though . This past summer was a good buzzbait season .
5" green pumpkin wacky weightless, 3/8 ounce mop jig with any craw trailer, Texas rigged craw, spinnerbait, and a whopper plopper
Favorite to fish swaiver 168, best to catch the KVD 1.5 in bluegill
Rapala DT.
Bandit 100 and a Tube or Kalins 5" grub (tube probably gets the nod because it is more versatile)
On 1/2/2018 at 9:44 PM, thinkingredneck said:Trick worm T rigged, Candy bug
Yep, mine too. Weightless with the tail dipped in some chartreuse Spike It Dip-N-Glow.
Just to be more original, my favorite reaction bait is the Livetarget Threadfin Square Bill crank (Baitball Series). It's one of those post-spawn and fall lures, fishing from the banks, that the bass chase it up to your feet sometimes.
it's hard to pick just one but if i had to i think it would have to be the spro bronze eye poppin' frog. Not much beats a good frog bite. except maybe when they're knocking slack in your line to get a crankbait, in which case i agree with @fishballer06 DT's are a go to.
My favorite lure is the fish's favorite lure. But if they bit a spinnerbait all the time that's all I'd throw, and a popper..
texas rigged worm
Keitech Noisy Flapper
PLASTICS !????

It’s a tie for me....3/8 Jig/craw and hollow body frog.
My personal favorites to cast and catch with are a Texas rigged Ol' Monster(red bug and black red glitter) and a chatterbait(white, black and blue, breaking bream) with a Strike King Rage Swimmer(green pumpkin) trailer. Those are my confidence baits as well. Will be doing my best to add more baits to the favorites and confidence list this year. ????
Tie between topwater (frog, Spook, Torpedo, etc. ALL topwater!) and Texas rigged worm. Personal preference is either Gillraker or Zoom Mag II.
Dang hard to pick just one. Weightless Zoom fluke though.
Cabin Creek Salty Critter Jr, 2.5" tube, in green pumpkin blue flake. I rig it on a 1/8oz or 1/4oz Cadman's Smallie Crawlin' jig. A green pumpkin blue Buzz Baits Killer Kraw is a close second though! Depends on what the fish want i spose.
Now that I think of it, the actual jig is probably my choice, seeing as the plastic varies depending on how well it's working.
Bandit 100 crankbait and a Z Man TRD.
tough to narrow it down to one. So I'll go with my favorite way to fish, which is punching mats. And my favorite bait is a Gambler BB Cricket. Junebug or Bowens silver
My three hottest baits that probably caught most of my bass are.
1. REBEL BIG CLAW crawfish crankbait, dives to 10’ / floats too. In chartruse color.
2. BPS TOPNOCKER COLOR 25 chartruse.
3. Bomber crankbaits, fat A / model A size o5 in red apple craw.
all the other baits and colors catch bass too but I probably stay with what works more often and constant. My time fishing is limited because of my health. I have to gun and run sort of speak.
Yamamoto shad shaped worm or a luck-e-strike freak series 1. Those two baits are money from late feb to dec for me. But if I’m trying to get a big bit 4 or 5 in senko green pumpkin magic t-rigged or wacky or o a flick shake.
Very tough to pick just one. Favorite style no doubt is topwater...... spook, plopper, buzzbait. Strong 2nd is wacky yum dinger.
#1 top producer for me is a bone zara chug'n spook jr. Catches them all day or night. #2 is a wacky 5'' yamamoto senko, #3 is yamamoto kreature t-rigged with a 1/4 oz tungsten weight. Green pumpkin or junebug colors.
Going to try an s-waver 168, whopper plopper 110, and keitech 4.8 and 5.8 this year to see if any of these will be as good as my top three.

I’ve been fishing the Yamamoto Shad shaped worm on a drop shot since December and I can not get a single bite. How do you use it?
If they would bite a frog all the time, it's all I would ever fish. But they don't. So I have to use other stuff.
We have caught more big fish on a senko than anything else, but my favorite way to catch fish is anything top water. If I could only pick one I'd go old school and pick a Jitter bug. Some 50 odd years ago I caught my first top water bass on one ( I still have it), and to this day every time I use one, that particular gurgle, gurgle, gurgle of a Jitter bug brings back so many wonderful memories.

@Dorado
I fish it nose hooked on an owner mosquito hook, or I will thread it on to a roboworm rebarb hook so that the hook point comes out of the back about the mid point. In the spring around the spawn I fish it on a short leader 8-14” in the summer I will mess with length till I get a bite. I will fish it down or up a point, pitch to isolated rock or wood anything I think is holding fish. I don’t video game fish when I ds so some people would say use a Carolina rig but my waters have way to much rock for that. Line is 10lb spiderwire to 10lb yozuri hybrid and I’m using the abu Ike series ds rod.
hope this helps.
if I can ask what are your water temps, clarity, and species you are fishing for, and what part of the country are you in?

That was very helpful thanks man! I’ll PM you today
Easy, hair jig with pork trailer

The OP asked for our personal favorite "lure", then named three...??? OK, I'll give you my three then.
1) Jig
2) Jig
3) Jig
A-Jay
Buzzbait. Worm is more effective but buzzbait strike is my fav
Popper. If we’re being brand specific, Chug Bug or Pop Max.
Nothing beats the excitement of a top water hit, but a 1/2 ounce jigs is also hard to beat
Zoom fluke or a wacky worm
I really have a hard time putting down a tube. It accounts for more bass then anything else I throw. Probably because I throw that the most. Hence me having a hard time putting it down. Lol.

Same for me as far as favorites go. Followed closely by a 3/8 jig. I really love skipping
This week? 1/4 or 3/8 oz Strike King Hack Attack Heavy Cover Swim Jig with Rage Grub trailer, hopped along the bottom. There's something satisfying about the jig bite, especially on braid line. It's the hook set I think, so solid and powerful and definite.
Jig or bladed jig.
Plastic stick baits, spinnerbait, swim jig.
Love to fish a lipless. They cast great, have little resistance, and there's nothing like that hard thump when they get bit. Also, I get a lot of strikes at my feet from followers. A real wake me up!

this..........................
ms slammers, fishing magician skid stick, i love those baits! and each color!!
Vision 110. In my short time fishing it has been pretty good to me.
Yum Dinger. Comes in all sizes and can be rigged so many ways (Wacky, Texas, Carolina, etc.) Close second is the Z-man TRD.
Favorite is a Vision 110 in yellow perch. Smallies will hit it all year long. It'll get me numbers and quality.
I love topwater blowups, but my favorite lure has to be a jig!
Definitely depends on how much i could spend to get said favorite lure haha, i have used very nice swimbaits for a while and they were much to expensive for a high school student to purchase more of. on the higher end i prefer the Megabass Popmax or Vision 110 Jerkbait. if i had to choose a favorite lure for a young angler with a small spending limit i would definitely go with 7" PowerWorms, in either Tequila Sunrise or Black Grape(or similar color)
Over the last three years or so the most bass have been on the below two baits. Really my go to when the bite is tough.
Lake/Reservoir: Weighltess 5" green pumpkin Senko wacky rigged
River: Ditch colored Rebel Wee Craw
I listed buzzbaits . My favorite is my hand poured and I incorporate a stair step design similar to the Cavitron . Not saying mine is better than the Cavitron but its mine .

I can't believe no one has said whopper plopper. I've never used one but it's all I hear about

I tried those things all summer, probably every time I went fishing I at least gave it a try. Never got a bite until.................End of September and all of October, then they were hitting it like crazy.
Jerkbait. My personal favorite is the Ito Shiner, but there's so many more I could list that are great baits.
Second favorite would have to be a jig.

I like to fish whopper ploppers, but one leaf and that cast is over!
By far would be topwater.. Wether its frogs or poppers or ploppers. But, you can't beat a senko!
Tight lines yall!
Livetarget field mouse 90T
Topwater
If I have to choose one?
Soft plastic jerkbait. Please don't ask me to choose just one brand as of now I have more than 10 differences in rotation all size and color.
If I had to just pick one lure to fish it would be a storm arashi topwalker. If I had to pick one lure to fish and always catch fish it'd be a Texas rigged watermelon red baby brush hog
Hollow body frog/ buzz frog. Not that versatile, but when the bite is on there is nothing I would rather be doing.
Black and red flake baby ribbit frog, followed close by the 1/4 trap chrome and black back with orange belly.
But the baby ribbit is my fab of all of them.

I've caught more on lipless than anything else...I guess my personal favorite found me.
For 2017 my go to was a square bill crank bait in a variety of brands and colors. I would say that half of my fish for the season came on the same H20 Xpresss square bill in a Sexy Shad pattern... even lost it at the lake for a week and was able to recover it. Changed hooks and kept on slaying em’. When times get tough I normally lean towards a 7” power worm or a soft stick bait in a variety of colors based on the conditions.
1.)
2.) Everything else
Must say....weightless, wacky rigged 5" Senko....watermelon over cream.

My favorite way to fish is with swimbaits such as the Matt lures Hard Gills, MS Slammers , Pat's Perch and Glide baits.
I also like throwing the SK 8.0 Mag squarebill, Whopper Ploppers & Jigs.
If I could only fish on lure for the rest of my life it would be a popper.
Although jerkbaits are NOT my most productive lures, they are still my favorite.
Soft plastics are #1 for "catching", but I often fish a jig even when I know something
else would be better!
I am personally a huge fan of spinnerbaits, swim jigs and crankbaits. Hollow body frogs are also a blast to fish, as well and the blowups are also a lot of fun.
In my version of heaven the fish will be biting on hard jerkbaits every day, and there won't be a piece of weed/grass in sight so you don't have to worry about fouling your bait with junk.
I really like catching them on jigs. I've tried to explain to non-anglers how feeling a bite transmitted through the rod and into your hand is just the sickest thing. And then the first time you properly set the hook on a big one with a heavy flipping stick and braided line and you feel the full weight and power of the fish you're ruined from that point on. It's impossible to not want to do it again....and again...and again....
My favorite is the walking bait.
I grew up in a place and time where they were not widely used, but as a kid I'd see them in field and stream and other magazines.
Something about the connection after hitting that cadence: "click click click... wham!"
I like all topwaters but not always patient enough for a popper, and although buzzbaits are my top producers, I enjoy the challenge of making a walking bait walk and talk just right.
If I could pick only one bait it would be a zoom ultra vibe craw either Texas rigged or as a jig trailer. This bait can be quite versatile depending on how you fish it.
That said, I think it's best not to have a favorite and to let the conditions and the fish decide.

How do you like to work your football jig? Any tips?
Man oh man. Just one, eh?!
Well, I would have to say a bladed jig (Keitech Easy Shiner trailer).
Followed closely by a flip/skip jig with a Paca Chunk SR(Kentucky Craw baby!)

I work most of mine by dragging along the bottom. I like feeling every rock or depression by jig hits. Move it back toward you with the rod, not the reel (you'll feel more).
Cast, let sit, lift rod from 7-12, pause, reel slack, repeat. Vary your pause, vary your speed, etc..
That's how I fish it anyways.

Very good topwater lure in specific circumstances. Have to know the right sizes, colors, etc. Caught all my PB's as well as multitudes of fish. I've only had it for one season so far. One of my favorites no doubt.
I fish much better when I make an effort not to have a favorite lure.

It doesn't have to be a jig, per se. It can be a worm or about any soft plastic OR a jig. But I agree with the sentiment. There's just something about it!
Zoom trick worm
Senko
Curly tailed grub
Jig with Craw trailer
Zman TRD (ned rig)
Mepps #4 gold
I have lots of favorite lures but I suppose if I had to choose one, a single tail grub has to be my favorite since it catches just about everything in addition to bass, can be rigged many different ways, comes in lots of colors, and can be fished at all depths. A tube would be second but it's a bit too much of a 'slow'-style of fishing for my taste. Most fun has to be a topwater, a popper or prop bait.
Definitely a jitterbug followed by other topwater. I've been fishing jitterbugs for around 30 years and as a previous poster mentioned, it just brings back memories with that unforgettable sound. And you can't beat a topwater blowup. Second type would be crankbaits of any kind - they're just more fun to fish with for me than most other baits.

Wow....the fall is usually the best. I use two types of footballs. A small one that I tie on small light wire hook in a 3/0 for the smaller profile. (ten to 12 lb line) I use in 1/4 to 1/2 and once it falls will tend to shake a bit. (small shakes) I really don't fish it too far back to the boat unless I'm on a large flat and then only half way. (not very patient)
Then I use the larger version in a 5/0 in usually a 1/2 or 3/4 that I tend to drag more along the bottom. This I usually use 17 to 20 lb line.
