How Is My Tackle Box Looking... 2024

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Hellow all, just joined, and this is my first post.

I live in Ohio, just bought me a new 2014 16' 2" Lund Fury this year, and getting back into fishing.

I have been working hard at building up my Tackle Box. How do you think I am doing?  :)

This is how she currently looks:

Tray 1
obid.jpg

Tray 2
0rce.jpg

Tray 3
w0yo.jpg

Tray 4

ggpk.jpg

My next order will be to fill this tray up:

Megabass Ito Shiner - Length 4.5", Weight 1/2oz, Hook #4, Depth 8-9ft. (Suspending)
(1) Color: GG. Perch

Megabass Ito Vision 110 Squarebill - Length 4.35", Weight 1/2oz, Depth 6-7ft. (Floating)
(1) Color: GG. Gill

Rapala BX Balsa Extreme Jointed Minnow 3-1/2", 5/16oz, 6-8ft, Hook size 6.
(1) Color: Smelt
(1) Color: Gold Shiner

I figure I will move my Smithwick Limited Rogue in the Nuclear Clown color, into the same slot as my new GG. Perch Megabass Ito Shiner, as both are suspending class baits.

That will give me (2) 'Big Boy' Suspending Jerkbaits...

And (4) 'Big Boy' floating...

Cotton Cordell Red Fin - CHR/BLACK BACK
Bomber Long A B15 - Silver/White/Red
Bagley BangOLure Jerk Bait - Baby Bass
Megabass Ito Vision 110 Squarebill Jerkbait - GG. Gill

Probably a healthy ratio of Floaters to Suspenders...
This will also scratch my itch for some more natural looking jerks. smile.gif

I will just line up the 4 floaters on the left side of my tray, so its easy to remember.
My 2 suspenders will go top right.

I wish TW had those old school jointed Rapala minnows.
I would buy one.

Tray 6

Also have these in the bag too...

I now even have a new Terminal Tackle Utility Box going...

fishing user avatarSoMinnBass reply :

Welcome!

It looks like you are developing a nice range of techniques and colors. You might find more versatility in having more than just those few sizes of bullet weights for texas rigging. Do you have any spinnerbaits or buzzbaits hiding in those pockets? Don't forget those! For carolina rigging, you could try some glass beads (8mm), they will make more noise against your sinker than plastic ones, and you can get them pretty cheap at a hobby store or craft store. It doesn't look like you have many crankbaits that go past 10-12 ft. Depending on where you live, if the water goes deeper then you will probably find bass there too.

If you want some jointed Rapalas, try ebay. Sometimes you can find new ones, or even just buy used ones and put new hooks on and they should work fine.

Lookin' good!

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Thanks for the input...  ;)

I will look into picking up some new bullet weights...

and some glass beads too.

I don't keep my spinner-baits in that tackle box, but I have them too...

I will keep you in mind KDW96, if the clutter gets too much out of control. :)

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Looks awesome!

You might consider adding some Siebert jigs to the jig box. They're unparalleled in quality IMHO!

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

You should get some crank baits.

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

Nice collection.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

How do you find anything in that mess?? Mine look more like this,

tackle-box-tangle-jerry-mcelroy.jpg

You have a good selection going, just add to it slowly and one day you too can spend 10 minutes untangling hooks to finally give up and just use whatever comes untangled the easiest.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Wow man... You are a mobile bait store!  :)

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

I would add some walk the dog topwater to it.  A good ole spook works wonders!

Jeff

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

I have not had a walk the dog topwater type bait yet.

Some good advice, I will have to look into that.

OP - You have a great selection there. As soon as the weather permits, get out there and fish it!

fishing user avatarSalamander12 reply :

It looks good and a lot more organized than mine, I buy so many different baits that I can't fit everything in my bag

Just starting off and you're already buying Megabass?!?! But seriously, you've got a great collection there, and very well organized. Keeping it organized? Well, that's a whole different story... I agree with the other users, definitely pick up some Spooks. Good luck out on the water, you now have NO excuse to get skunked ;)

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :
I cant stop buying tackle.   :)

I heard about the amazing Black Dog Shellcracker G2's, and had to have 3...

Also picked up a tray to put them in. I hope it fits in my tackle bag, in one of the side slots...

My order:

2ohy.jpg

Last order is in except the back-ordered Magabass Vision 110 Squarebill in GG. Gill.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

My backordered Jerk Bait arrived today...  :)

Jerk Tray upgrade has now been cmpleted!

4 large Floaters on the left, and 2 large suspenders on the right. That should work...

I also love those new BX Minnows. I hope they work well!!

WOW WEE, you are loaded for bear!

Best of luck

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

Wow you make me feel good. I thought I was going over board but for just starting again you are putting me to shame. The wife would kill me of my box looked like that. But I am beyond jealous. Love the frog baits. Amazing set though. I need a friend with a set up like that who will let me use some haha I've got the biggest selection of all my friends and I'm constantly losing it because I fish with my kids, wife and beginners a lot so I'm nervous to offer and lose too much variety

fishing user avatarBuckMaxx reply :

Its looking great now when you outgrow that...your gonna have to buy a boat to haul it all. My boat it a traveling walmart fishing section.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Thanks guys...  :)

I am about done buying new lures after my wake baits arrive.

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

That's a good start, now you need to work up to 100 lbs. of plastics, triple digit cranks, 20 lbs. of jigs ,triple  digit spinnerbaits, at least 1k hooks, 20+ lbs. of assorted sinkers. You, have just been bitten by the "monkey" .There is no cure. You can't overcome it. As long a you fish for bass, you will not be able drive by a tackle store. When Christmas rolls around, you won't be happy unless you get a couple of BPS gift cards and you will be happy that Christmas is past because that is when the new BPS and Cabelas catalogs show up. Welcome back to the world of the obsessed. We need more like you to help us feel normal because our wives and friends that don't fish for bass think of us as craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy.

fishing user avatarWhiteMike1018 reply :

Welcome to the Forums, those boxes looks pretty d**n good, my favorites are the topwater box and the lipless box.

m539.jpg
(1) Cotton Cordell Red Fin 5" (High riding and extra bouyant) - $5.99
Color: CHR/BLACK BACK

More info on the lure: "The Red Fin Minnow is a classic ''V-wake'' lure from Cotton Cordell that
calls trophy bass to the surface. The Red Fin's hollow head design allows it to be twitched and
worked on the surface like no other minnow lure. Quality components and a highly-detailed finish
includes red markings to simulate gill plates add to the Red Fin Minnow's effectiveness."

(1) Bagley BangOLure Jerk Bait 3/8oz (Floating) - $8.49
Model BL5-BB: Genuine Balsa Wood, Classic Stick/Jerk Bait, 5", Dives 1-2 feet.
Color: Baby Bass

More info on the lure: "Jim Bagley’s first balsa bait - the Bagley BangOlure Jerbait is one of the
original and most castable balsa stick bait on the market. Great as a surface lure, it will also dive
down to 2 feet. Cast it, let it sit, and then rip it on the surface, the Bagley BangOLure has a wide,
enticing wobble that bass can't resist."

Megabass Vision 110 Squarebill Hook size #6 (Floating) - $24.99
(1) Color: GG. Gill

More info on the lure: The Megabass Ito Vision 110 Square Bill still delivers the uncanny fish
catching ability of the original 110 - now with a square bill for unique, new action.
The reinforced square bill bites into the water more effectively that the original bill,
redistributing water flow along the belly for a sharper, wider darting capabilities.
It also features the Megabass “muli-way moving balancer system” (PAT.P) for longer casting and
optimal balance on the pause. Also a great choice for fishing in current, the 110 Square Bill
generates a precise and delicate realistic action that bass can’t resist. Available in a wide
range of the famous Megabass colors, the Megabass Ito Vision 110 Square Bill delivers proven
Japanese performance that only the mind of master lure designer, Yuki Ito, could create.

(1) Bomber Long A B15 Shallow Diver Size: 4-1/2", 1/2 oz. (Floating) - $5.79
Color: Silver/White/Red

More info on the lure: "The long, slender profile and super-tight wiggling action of the streamlined
Bomber Long A create a lifelike swimming motion. The internal rattles sound out in a loud rhythm to
draw the attention of open water fish over long distances. Floats quickly while at rest to entice
added strikes during a stop-and-go retrieve."

Megabass Ito Shiner Hook size #4 (Suspending) - $25.99
(1) Color: GG. Perch

More info on the lure: Made with a slightly larger profile than the Megabass Vision 110, the
Megabass Ito Shiner was originally developed to give Megabass prostaffers, Aaron Marten and
Edwin Evers, a leg up on the competition. Now available to anglers all across the USA, the
Megabass Ito Shiner is a serious threat to bass with its high-pitch rolling and erratic lunging
action. Internally, the Megabass Ito Shiner is equipped with a tungsten weight-transfer system
for increased casting distances, and 30% more side-to-side movement. Externally, the Megabass
Ito Shiner is 5mm longer than the 110 and slightly taller, which gives it more surface area and,
in turn, more flash. When you’ve got your limit and it's time to stop fooling around, tie on the
Megabass Ito Shiner to put that money fish in the well.

single-jointed construction, the SmallCracker is perfect for times when bass are keying in on a
smaller presentation. Like all Black Dog Baits, the G2 Shellcracker features a realistic,
custom-quality paint job with a durable gloss-coat finish. The lexan bill, protruding downward
from the front of the bait, also creates an exaggerated swimming action, and the 3D eyes and
lexan tail provide added authenticity. Wake it, dead-stick it, twitch it or swim it down to the
3-4 foot range, the Black Dog Shell Cracker G2 is the bite size form of a proven design.

Aint that the truth!!  :)

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

Looks like you've got a good start, now the real question is....will it stay that organized? lol

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

The smart money is on no...

But I will try!

fishing user avatarJeziHogg reply :

Very nice collection. I on the other hand put all my cranks and jerks in there own space, I'd go banana's trying to get them out and having the hooks tangled.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

I seem to be able to get them out OK...  :)

I had to get some glass beads, but some other stuff made it into my cart also.

Got a few more plastics, along with some proper 5 and 6 swim bait hook sizes.

While I was there, I couldn't resist picking up the last G2 ShellCracker that I didn't have yet. Now I will have all 4 that are currently made.

4s7c.jpg

My new Swim Bait tray on order will fit into the large outside pocket of my Tackle Box.

Those large 4 corners are just begging for 4 G2's! ;)

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

Talonman, did you hit the Lotto?

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

I see you got a couple Rebel Pop-Rs. Great baits. The only surface lure i prefer over over the Pop-R is the Storm Chugbug. You should add a couple of those to your box. You wont be disappointed.

fishing user avatarWhiteMike1018 reply :

You need some siebert jigs and rage baits!

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Love my Pop-Rs too.

I have now identified my 4 small poppers.

Vintage XCalibur Zell Rowland POP-R's
(2) Color: Chartreuse Shad

Strike King HC KVD Splash Jr 2.375"
(1) Color: Summer Sexy Shad
(1) Color: Clearwater Minnow

We were fishing one week in Michigan, booked the entire camp of 5 or 6 cabins, and all the guys had money in the pot for the biggest Crappie, Bass, and Pike.

The last day, on the last cast I cought the biggest Crappie on one of my Chartreuse Shad Pop-R's.

You shold have seen that Crappie, Big, and Mangled, ugleyiest Crappie we had ever seen, but she measured well.

Cant remember the size, but I do remember it won me the Crappie pot.  :)

Did I hit the Lotto? No but get a $300.00 dollar allowance every 2 weeks that I have the wife calling 'My unaccountable mad money fund.'

Named so because she isnt to ask what happened to it... It's unaccountable!

I do have to buy my gas and pipe tobacco out of it, that takes close to $150.

The rest is for my current hobbys. Fishing, Guitar, Mini-Buggies, Darts, Remote control gas powers cars to drive in the dirt...

She does flip me an extra $100 quite often too.

Our deal is I lay my entire paychek at her feet, overtime and all, but get a generous allowance.

She has a need to control the money, and I have a need not to.

I spend as fast as I get, and you have to beat her with a stick to get her to buy some item for herself.

She buys house things, if at all... Yuck! I buy toys!

http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/130880-this-is-my-mini-buggy/

My Carter Brothers Talon. That is why I am Talonman...   ;)

I will give both siebert jigs and rage baits a hard look too.

Thanks for the tip.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Too neat. You need to start using your baits and get them all screwed up like the rest of us.

One suggestion:  #5 and #7 silver with black back Shad Rap.

Welcome aboard!

New Tackle arrival update...  :)

My hook collection is looking better.

I took the advice given in this thread and removed the lead from my Terminal Tackle tray.

I also took the advice given and picked up some glass beads, for that different 'tink' sound when using bullet weights.

em7p.jpg

Next, I am relieved to report that my first G2 arrived, and it JUST fits in the small size tray that I ordered.

bgyo.jpg

Actually, when closed, it shouldn't shake around too much...

s9u1.jpg

Probably a good thing when you consider that this tray, will be stored standing on it's side.

43ba.jpg

Needless to say, I was glad that it officially fit in the large pocket of my tackle box.

I love it when a plan comes together...  :)

I now have also officially graduated, to 3 box status on my plastics:

Bass - Impact Fats - and Ultra Light:

You gave me a idea for terminal tackle, putting size labels from the packs in each compartment. Thanks!

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

Plastics, you aint got no plastics. You can count the number of bags you have. You don't count plastics, you weigh them. If your plastics don't cause your boat to list a few degrees to port or starboard you don't have enough. If you don't have 15-20 plastic shoe boxes of "extras" and "fill ins" in your man cave, you don't have enough plastics. If you don't have 3 bags of pb&j and 3 bags of sour grape Zoom 7" u-tail worms ( their the same color) you don't have enough plastics. If you don't have plum and plum/apple and plum/red and plum/blue, whatever , you don't have enough plastics. Come on man, get with it. The bait monkey is not doing his job. You need at least 30-40 more lbs. of plastics to catch up with us. Nice looking tackle though.

fishing user avatardrodriguez reply :

Great to see all the hard baits. And welcome to BR. Its my first answer. Lol. I would recommend pickin up some strike king zeros OR zman elaztek stickbaits. They float and are perfect for finicky bass when fished with a shaky head. Other than that, your box looks great, better than many who fished all of last year. Lol tight lines.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Thanks guys...  :)

FYI - Impact Fats have the new colors hitting in March.

fishing user avatarWhiteMike1018 reply :

fishing user avatarWhiteMike1018 reply :

You need a box labled "RAGE'' with shads and frogs in it, just saying, also in the box should be a 1/2 ounce bottle of mend it and 4/0 ewg hooks

Thanks on the Cat... Maximus!  :)

Just a heads up, that'll work for a while but if they get wet at all they'll generally start to peel or curl up. If you're looking for a way to label your boxes just use a sharpie. Write it on the inside of the compartments and it'll stay throughout the year if not longer. If you don't like your setup and want to change it, just use a little spit and little rub with your finger and it'll come off after a little bit.

See your still missing the Rage tail shads, im going to continue to remind you to buy some until i see pictures :D

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

OK... They are added to my list!   :)

I figure the inhibitor Pro Chips should keep my trays dry, and hooks sharp.
1 more small bait casket for another outside pocket of my tackle box.
Shad Wrap size 5 and 7 were on my list...
The Avenger was another recommendation to me.
The Weed Demons are my first Walk The Dog type baits...

Looks decent...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bez44afF5NM

I just needed some size 3 treble hooks.

And I wanted to try out some official swim jigs.
The Dirty Jigs looked good too.

well no for the house I have a few planos filled up with my main stash then a separate sealed Plano I fill accordingly prior to tourneys. So for the house I'd be straight.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Rage Shads will be on my next order...

Glad I ordered my G2's when I did...

Now all 4 colors are back-ordered.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

I just contacted TW to ask if the G2's arrived on the 22nd, like the web page indicates...

Answer: We have not received any updates from Black Dog, so the estimated arrival date is basically uncertain.

So I wrote Black Dog to ask when the promised 22nd G2's bound for TW, actually will make it out the door...

I also made sure they saw my 'click buy' date: Fri, Feb 7, 2014 **

Looking forward to how they respond.

Update about 5 minutes later: Hi Scott,
These should arrive the first week of March. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for your patience.
Jeremy

My response: Thanks for the response Jeremy, It's your fault that the G2 is so popular.
You guys simply made it catch too much fish!
Thanks again, and love Black Dog Baits.

Looks like March now on the G2's.

That's one heck of a box! I go to TB anonymous. "Tackle Buyers" My name is Tom and I am a tackle junkie.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

Your  neatness is to be commended. But personally, IMHO, it's not much of a crankbait box unless you can pull AT LEAST 47 lipless crankbait out at once all stuck together and spend a 1/2 hour untangling them, while in the mean time, the sun has come out, the lakes gone flat, and that bite has died.

Looking good! I would suggest something like the Gene Larew Biffle Hardheads.

Here's how Cabelas described it.

-The Gene Larew Biffle Hardhead uses a powder-coated football head weight with a loosely attached worm hook for a free-moving, weedless offering. Football head design prevents snagging on rocks when dragging the bottom. Pivoting hook gives the plastic bait for more natural action.

If you don't have some already you may want some extra skirts too. nothing like having a skirt come off  your spinner bait, buzzbait, jig, etc. that the fish are just hammering. It has happened to me and i wasn't real happy.

I wish my bag looked as good as yours though! Nice variety.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Thanks for the tip...

And I do have a skirt making tool, and skirt material. Handy for sure!

My Spinner bait box has already had some replacement skirts installed, and all my Hula Poppers have had new hooks and skirts put on too.

You mean something like this?  :eyebrows:

DSCF0447_zps652574a7.jpg

They're pretty awesome. They're very versatile, especially since I started pouring my own so I can choose the hook size/style that I put on them. Really excited to try some of the little 1/8 and 3/16 oz sizes I poured with 2/0 EWG Gamakatsus with some small beaver baits. Planning on using them in the same situations I'd use a shakyhead and finesse worm.

The standard sized ones work great with about anything, but especially creature baits and beaver style baits. The brush hogs and Havoc Pit Boss really looks good on them, especially hanging out of a fishes mouth  :respect-059:

Perfect! Lovin' the squarebills.

fishing user avatarTalonman reply :

Well, I am still at picking up a few new baits...

After buying my small bass tackle bag to take out in the boat, and filling it up from my large green tackle bag, I now have some holes to fill in my trays.  :)

I ordered this small tray:
Plano 3450 6 Compartment Stowaway - $2.59
Dimensions: 8.25" x 4.25" x 1.38"

It's small, and will fill my little boat tackle box up with trays.
When buying new, the tackle bag still had room for one more tray.
I am hoping this Stowaway box, can successfully hold a 6th Sense Crush 300DD.

The stock Plano Pro Latch Utility Box 3500's will only hold a 6th Sense Crush 250MD.
The 300DD is just too large. I want the ability to pack a few 300DD's in my small boat tackle box.

Next I started plugging up a few more holes in my trays, and ordered today:

* For my Lipless crank tray, I wanted to try out some Aruku Shad WR75's.
They have the killer rattle sound, and I wanted some heavy lipless-cranks for deep water.

Spro Roland Martin Signature Series Aruku Shad WR75 3" 5/8oz Front hook 4, Rear hook 6 - $6.49
The WR75 is equipped with a Gamakatsu Double 21NS belly hook making it much less likely to get stuck behind obstacles.
(1) Color: Perch
(1) Color: Wild Shiner

I have 2 open spots in my Jerk tray, so I picked up...

Duo Realis Spinbait 80 3-1/8" 3/8oz Sinking - $12.99
(1) Color: Prism Gill

More info on the lure: Built to with two smooth-running props, the Duo Realis Spinbait 80 is perfect for light line finesse techniques, including the new Japanese technique of “spybaiting”. The technique of  “spybaiting” (also referred to as the “silent capture”) requires light line, a long distance cast, and a sinking style bait that can be crawled back to the boat. It takes patience and refinement, but is rumored to be incredibly effective. The Duo Realis Spinbait 80 is ideal for “spybaiting” because the compact body casts incredibly far and provides a heavy rolling action, even on a slow retrieve. Built with an internal fixed ballast, the Duo Realis Spinbait 80 stays deeper for a longer period of time than a traditional propbait, and also sinks on the pause with a tight wobbling action. And if that wasn’t enough, the props add another element of attraction by producing a strong pulsing as they whiz through the water. Complete with two razor-sharp treble hooks, the Duo Realis Spinbait 80 is another example of how Duo Realis remains at the forefront of bass fishing.
** Note: Recommended line is 4 or 5 lb Fluorocarbon.

Koppers Live Target Trout Parr Jerkbait (TP102S) 4" 11/16oz Floating 4-5ft - $14.99
(1) Color: Rainbow Trout

More info on the lure: Young-of-the-year Trout are distinguished by two different stages in their early lifecycle: the Fry and the Parr. The Koppers Live Target Trout Fry and Parr Jerkbaits have matched these two popular forages to a tee. The baby of the family - the Fry, is offered in a slow sinking model, while its older adolescent brother - the Parr, is available in a floateing version, equipped with a built in weight transfer system. Both have intricate paint patterns that easily fool river and open water gamefish. The Koppers Live Target Trout Fry and Parr Jerkbaits are the ultimate forage replicas. Match the hatch with Live Target.

Should be some fun baits to play around with...

And for my Shallow tray, I wanted to try out some XCalibur XCS 100 Square Lip Silent Crankbaits.

XCalibur XCS 100 Square Lip Silent Crankbait 2" 1/2oz 0-3ft - $5.99
(1) Color: Black Chartreuse
(1) Color: Tennessee Special
(1) Color: Citrus Shad
(1) Color: Foxy Shad

I had room for one more Keitech Swing Impact FAT in my box, so I picked up one of the new colors out.
Keitech Swing Impact FAT 4.8" - $7.49
(1) Color: Electric Blue & Chartreuse

Also ordered:
(1) The Rapala Pro Guide Line Clippers - $2.59

I did do an update on my Shad Rap side tray. I realized that I had a Rapala Shallow Shad Rap in one of my main trays, and wanted to keep them all together. The shallow Shad Rap had to fit in there too.

One note, in this side tray, the bates would move around when turned on it's side, so I cut some small strips of bubble wrap to lay on top of the lures when I close up the box. Now they all stay in the exact same place...

I do have a tackle buying addiction, and have found that I am much happier knowing I have some fishing lures on order...
Still waiting on my (3) back ordered G2's since 02/07/14, my 'click buy' date....
TW took them back down off the site now.

When I order my Lews Super Duty SD1HL reel, I am going with Amazon over TW.

TW wants $179.99 for it...
Amazon only wants $154.99.
Sad... TW might loose their best customer on this order.  ;)

These baits are on my wanted list for further hole filling.
Not all will make it into my Tackle box, but I am giving them a hard look:
