Placing A Tw Order 2024

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

So, I need some help from everybody.

I'm about to place the biggest Tackle Warehouse order yet, I'm gonna' take advantage of this 50.00 & over cheap shipping deal.

I want to order some good worms, a frog or two and a good crank. Any suggestions on things you guys always order would be great.

I'm looking at getting some dropshotting hooks as well as some good dropshot worms.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR TEXAS RIG WEIGHTS as well as good sinkers?

Any help would be great guys. I've never purchased roboworms or any of that stuff before so i'm looking forward to getting with these quality lures!

EDIT: WHAT KIND OF MONO DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND?

IS IT SMART TO USE COPOLY AS A LEADER?

Update: Sent the order in last night, she's finalized. Planning on making a seibery order here soon! Thanks everybody for your help!!

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

Roboworms and KVD dream shots, or just some Zoom 4.5 inch finesse worms. I'd recommend green pumpkin, maybe with a chatreuse tail.

Try the VMC Spinshot hooks, I really like them.

Don't know what weights you've tried, but 1/8 oz. for spinning and 1/4 oz for casting are staple trig weights for me.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

A good dropshot hook is the "Gamakatsu Drop/Split Shot Hook"

Any sinker is fine if it's the weight & material you desire.

For T-rigging, a lead or steel 'Bullet Sinker' is preferred.

So much for the unglamorous stuff;  plenty of bait suggestions with be forthcoming ;-)

Roger

fishing user avatarBig C reply :

I like River2Sea frogs.

fishing user avatarBassTravis reply :

Vikes make screw in Tungsten weights that are great for worm fishing.  Inexpensive and durable as well

fishing user avatarThe Fisher reply :

Look at their sale stuff and see if there is anything you want to add to your shopping cart

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Thanks guys, haha. Much appreciated! Any more help?!

fishing user avatarthomas15 reply :

My vote is to get a bunch of Keitech Swing Impact baits and a bunch of Kicker Fish Hightail Holeshot Shakey worms (various colors). A collection Booyah Blade Double Willow Spinnerbaits  3/8 # and some Strike King KVD 1.5 cranks and some Cavitron buzzbaits. If you still want to shop consider some Roboworm finess plastics. Don't forget to get some terminal tackle (Jig heads and bucktails) and some JJ's Magic. Love that free shipping!

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Thank you!

I want to get some jigs but I don't know how to pick them with skirts. I've only bought little jigs with no skirts from BPS for my twister tails

fishing user avatarthomas15 reply :

TW has Strike King Bitsy Bug Jig  for $1.69 For that price get a selection of colors and weights. Also usually Walmart has them at about the same price. With these you can add a trailer, for example Berkley Havoc Skeet's 4" Pit Chunk 8pk for $2.99. These jigs have brush guards that make them weedless.

At anyrate, read the articles here on Bassresources about setting up and fishing jigs. For example you might want to trim and/or thin out the skirts and trim the weedguard.

Do you fish mainly for Largemouth or Smallies?

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

More so smallies but I fish for LM a decent amount as well.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Senkos, Fat Ikas, Keitech swimbaits, 4/0 Gammi EWG's, VMC Tungsten Bullet weights 1/8 oz and 3/16, and a Lucky Craft Flat CB in Chartreuse shad.

fishing user avatarAngry John reply :

Go to the most popular tab. these are the baits that really work and people repeatedly buy. The zoom trick worms and keiteck impacts are very popular. I vote against getting jigs from tw. Order from Serbert and get a good single base color skirt and change it up with the trailer. Then you only need to focus on head shape and weight.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

I ordered quality jigs from SO before but I, for the life of me, can't figure out how to create great skirt colors on there without it looking like a Bill Cosby sweater.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Also, what color do you guys pick for the bullet weights?

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Also, any suggestions on colors for the Keitech Swimbait?

fishing user avatarmassrob reply :

For keitechs I like bluegill flash, Tennessee shad. All the colors are pretty good just match it to the water color or forage.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

You will go crazy trying to figure out optimum colors for every possible bait without trying them first. Start simple, see what works in your waters, then complexify, as needed.

Blacks, greens, and browns are pretty universally useful for worms and jigs. Forage patterns: what do the bass eat in your waters? craws, shad, bluegill, perch, etc. Bright colors are good for visibility in stained or murky water -- chartreuse, bright reds and oranges, bubblegum, etc. Firetiger-like patterns cover a few of these at once and thus can be a good stained water catch-all. However, I don't load up on the the "brights" until I have clear sense of where I will use them.

But if a color or pattern has caught your eye and is haunting you, just get it. It will continue to haunt you anyway until you buy it, which will happen sooner or later. Who knows, it might even work.

Bullet weight color? Now that's really splitting hairs.

Recently, like you, I was also unsure of what to get from Siebert Outdoors. So I ordered  a "random jig pack" and was really happy with it -- I got an excellent variety of sizes, head styles and skirt colors to try out. I figured as long as I was uncertain about what I wanted, I may as well take SO's random judgment in place of my own random judgment.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

that is a great idea! I might have to try that out!!

You want single colors like watermelon or pumpkin no flake. Keep the jig very plain and accent with trailer.
fishing user avatardeep reply :

That might be one way to do it. No absolute wrong or right of course.

I'd rather have a three-tone pattern on the skirt with some highlights though.

Nice to meet you brother. I'm over in Carbon where the LMB have a bad case of lockjaw but it still beats a day at work!

Keitech baits are responsible for getting me interested in swimbaits in general. In a recent TW order I ordered a few Spro BBZ-1 Shad Swimbait 4" which are about $20.00 each. This is no little thing as I hate to lose a lure that costs $3.00, never mind $20.00

But since getting my little boat last year I really haven't lost much compared to bank fishing but the overall cost of fishing now is something I really don't want to think about!

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Haha what's up man. Over near Hershey, fishing the dusky, etc.

I need to invest in some different stuff. This is helping me big time!

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

I just, mainly, want to maximize with my colors and Thats all. I have a he'll of a time picking colors

fishing user avatarBen Eipert reply :

I highly recommend Zoom Speed Worms in Junebug Red

fishing user avatarbstephenson1225 reply :

If you plan on drop shotting I recommend the 6" roboworms. I just started using them and I am sold! Just caught 7 LMB on a lake that I am lucky to get away with 1 or 2. Someone turned me onto them and was the best advice I've taken on baits yet.

Do you mean Aaron's magic, or maybe you mean morning dawn?

You should try at least a few of these:

swim and pitching jigs
RI skinny dippers
Rage Tail DB craws
Yamamoto DT grubs
Scroungers
Flukes
Lake fork magic shad
Upton customs straight tail worms
DT hula grub

Try some hardbaits too

Flashminnow
Regular Pointer
Staysees
Aruku shads
Xcalibur rattletraps
Arashi squarebills

Maybe some topwaters as well?
I love the Sammy and the Gunfish. Cavitron buzzbaits too.

That should keep the bass busy for a while.

So many baits, and so little time to fish them.

I bought an RM negotiator the other day, because- you know- they were in stock at last chance, and frankly, you don't get a chance to buy them at retail all the time.

A triple trout is on the way too.

Maybe I need another big bait rod and a reel too, and like 12 more hours in a day. We'll see.

I just don't have all the money i'd like to keep bulking up my supply. I've bought worms and cavitrons from TW but I need more!

Thanks guys. You're helping out big time!

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

You've been on here quite a while.  I imagine you read most (or a lot) of the threads.  What have you learned?  I am doubtful that any of us can help you all too much without knowing an awful lot about you, your water, your bass, etc.  Even then, we won't be more help than you can help yourself, I don't think.

Take what you've learned reading about all of our experiences, make a list of what you already have...and then a list of think might/should work in your water.  Keep a wishlist handy and modify it constantly so that when you do have the $$, you know what you 'need', instead of what we want or instead of just making an impulse buy.

I personally think you may be stressing too much about color variety instead of presentation focus (and variety.)    You might buy every one of Roboworm's 850 different colors, but if the bass want a crankbait today (and you don't have one along) and not a worm....well.....you just might be settling for catching bluegill today.

I've realized that lately, in all honesty.

My arsenal has way more plastics than hard baits and I stress about it sometimes because I don't spend more money on cranks and things of that nature.

-Super Spook Jr

-Rapala Skitter Pop

-Sebile Outdoors Flat Belly Walker

-Cheap Bass Pro Popper

-Cavitron Buzzbait White

-Cavitron Buzzbait Black

-Spro Bronzeye Shad

-Booya Pad Crasher

Crankbaits

-KVD 1.5 Crank

-Xcalibur XCS100 Crank

-KVD 1.0 Crank

-Zoom Horny Toad

-Rage Frogs

-Senkos

-Stanley Sidewinder Worms

-Zoom Trick Worms

-Rage Craws

-Rage Structure Bugs

-Flukes

-Biospawn Villecraw

-Zman Sawtail Worms

That's pretty much what I got!

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I know I suggested I have no business telling you what to buy.....BUT.....I can't resist.....not one spinnerbait, swim jig, chatterbait, or scrounger?

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

I'll be honest, I've never heard of a scrounger until about two days ago. I never really had success with spinner baits and I had two Z-Man chatterbaits but lost 'em.

I have a couple VMC Rugby Head's in my possession.

Here's where the suggestions come into play! haha. I have no idea about which are the most successful swim jigs, chatters or spinners.

I'm stumped here.

I'm glad we're talking this out and my lack of certain lures caused you to question!

fishing user avatardeep reply :

You need jerkbaits and jigs and swim jigs. No really, you do.

Medium and DD cranks, T and C-rig supplies as well.

How about punching some of those pads instead of just fishing frogs on top of them?

See, can you punch with spinning gear? I've never known.

I just have no idea what kinda' things to look for when I'm getting jerk baits and GOOD jigs and GOOD swim jigs.

Also, I plan on getting some T & C-Rig stuff but I need to figure what I need exactly for my stuff.

10# mono on a MF, braid & 12# leader of FLuoro on a M & 15# braid on a MH.

I would be sorry.  Shipping charges are the bane of interwebs shopping.  ANYTIME you can get free shipping for same unit cost, you're shopping smart.  Patience is a virtue....a thrifty one at that.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Well, any suggestions on t-rig stuff and c-rig stuff based on my setups? haha

I know I can read general rules but reading you guys give answers based on my setups is so much more helpful.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

I'll add some stuff to the list -

Havoc Pit Boss - one of the best trailers out there and can used as a normal craw bait for punching/flipping t-rig/etc.  Also pretty cheap so you can get a mix of colors.

Yum Sharpshooter - I dropshot 80% of the time and have tried almost every eye catching dropshot plastic out there.  Yum hit a grand slam with their three new dropshot baits (the Sharpshooter along with the Warning Shot and Kill Shot) in terms of bang for the buck.  I like the Sharpshooter the best followed by the Warning Shot.  Note though that hte Warning Shot and Killshot are fairly large/bulky for dropshot baits, but the Sharpshooter is perfect for nose hooking on a #4 or #6 hook.

The Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hooks are nice, I use those and also the Pro Packs of Owner Mosquitos.

The Strike King cranks are good bang for the buck!

For jigs I like to get jigs that are tied with twine/string, as opposed to the rubber/silicone bands.  The rubber/silicone bands can tear/get brittle over time.  Bass Patrol, TNT, and Skinny Bear are all jigs that are tied instead of banded.

Trust me, I know guys that have that philosophy but when I can get my gear in 2 days rather than wait a week or 5 business days and sometimes a weekend on top of it,  it's less than the cost of a beer or a dollar a day...I always say "well, that's just one less beer at the pool hall " but then I drink as much as normally would. LOL. Not much thrift or patience I'm afraid. I'm working on it.

Probably not. Sorry I forgot the deal about spinning gear.

Jerkbaits: One shallow, one medium, one deep. Flashminnow, Pointer SP/ Pointer MR, Staysee (don't buy the slow-sinking one) in whatever colors catch your fancy (respectively). They all work.

Jigs: Arkie head, light wire casting style hook, will work for a wide variety of cover. Brown-green. Rage craw.

Swim jigs: 1/4 oz northern style. whatever color you like. Little dipper/ Skinny dipper/ 3.8 inch Keitech.

T-rig: 1/4 oz brass and glass, no pegging. 2/0 to 3/0 light wire hook. your favorite worm.

C-rig: same weights, hooks, and worms, except you put a bobber stop a foot to a foot and a half above your hook.

I'm with you on this one $5 may not seem like alot, but think about it this way.  If you make a minimum of 10 orders per year (which is very very conservative for many people). That's another $50 order you're losing out on.

That's a equivalent to a Slammer, an I Slide, 2 Hudds, almost an Ayuroid, 10 packs of Senkos, half-way to a nice rod or reel, 5 River2Sea Spittin' Wa's, almost 10 Cavitron buzzbaits, 2 spools of Power Pro, 5 BOSS Alabama Rigs, a Jerry Rago Alpha Rat, or 10 Strike King Silent Red Eye Shads.

(Yes, I had to check all the prices above on TW.) ;)

I use the regular 4" swing impact on a 1/4oz jighead. It's a killer for smallies and spots in clear water. Catches a lot of walleyes, whites, and crappie too.

I just started giving some thought to line. I tried the Seaguar Red Label Fluorocarbon Line which is one of the least expensive fluoro available and I was really disappointed.  Really had problems with my baitcasters and birds nests, really stiff line. Perhaps it's my fault. Although I usually don't keep trying the same brand when disappointed, I bit the bullet and tried Seaguar AbrazX Fluorocarbon Line. Huge difference. A lot more money but really worth it.

Another thing to consider with mono, try some line conditioner, the KVD brand is about $4.00. My experience with it is positive.

Only had an hour to fish over at the Susquehanna and had no luck. the water finally went down and it's pretty clear, however, it's about 91 and completely sunny.

I tried a drop shot right away with Trick worm and after a few casts, my weight got snagged and that was the end of trying that.

I think I definitely need to invest in some much better weights.

Here is something for river smallies that seems to work for me well in clear water in the summer, but I don't hear recommended very often:  a 4 inch worm rigged weedless on a Slider Head or an Owner Bullet Ultrahead. I use Berkley power worms in black and pumpkinseed color and a 1/8 oz size head. I look for deeper pools to drop it into and hop it along the bottom with the current.

You said you use spinning only, and you are fishing a river for smallmouth. Is that right?

For that I use 8lb Trilene XT mono or 30lb Power Pro braid (8lb diameter mono equivalent).

OK, those work fine for me in lakes too, and for both largemouth and smallmouth. I also use only spinning, in both lakes and rivers. I use heavier or lighter mono or braid, depending on the situation, but I'm very confident I could get by almost anywhere I fish with just the two I mentioned. I don't bother with fluoro at all.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

PowerPro, you pay more for braid up front but you won't need to respool for a while.  I have 3 year old PowerPro on a lot of my spinning reels and the line is still good.  All I've had to do is add more line every year or two as I go through line from tying on lures/leader and whatnot.

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

I can't say I read every post but you are to worried about color. Keep it simple and natural. Green, brown, black, white-pearl, whatever is natural. What line to use? I assume you are using a spinning rod and I would recommend 20# power pro. As for baits and stuff it all depends on your budget. Sometimes you can get away with a cheaper bait of te same kind and sometimes you can't. For instance those pointer jerkbaits or a vision. They are expensive to a lot of people but the difference in big.

T-Rig Bullet Weights=what maker do ya'll suggest for these?

C-Rig: how do I go about actually finding the materials needed for the rig on TW and which to buy.

Swim Jig=any suggestions in particular?

Basically, with these few things; i'm asking for someone to tell me what they would order and i'll check it out.

Thanks guys!

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

So far, this is my order. I'm pretty sure this is laughable but can someone rate my decisions? lol

Top Brass Brass-N-Glass Bullet Weights.

Bobber Stop.

Hook.

That's all.

Not a true C-rig, but a slip-shot rig. It's better in more ways than one.

P.S. You need skirts too I think for those jigheads.

P.P.S. That 3/8 oz chatterbait with a trailer might be way too heavy for your spinning rigs to handle. I was fishing it on a flipping stick the other day.

I've been throwing 3/8 cavitrons for a long time...haven't caught any fish on 'em but they've been handling well. Do you truly think I should downsize?

PS: What skirts do you recommend?

Sorry for all the d**n questions; I've just never purchased skirting or anything like that before.

PSS: With weights, i'm assuming I should go with 1/8 and black?

PSSS: Which bobber stops do you recommend? LOL oh boy. I might as well remove myself from this site with all these questions.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I was throwing a 3/8oz bladed jig with a trailer on a medium Pfleuger Trion combo for awhile monday, and it felt OK (although I didn't catch anything on it). 3/8 is about as high as I usually go on that rod, but I've used it for crankbaits up to 5/8oz, which is fairly heavy for it, but doable.

My 3/8 oz project Z chatterbait itself weighs 15.5 g. I haven't played with it a lot, but I found it needed a fairly nice-sized trailer so that the trailer kicks. I guess the blade pushes water around the bait. I tried a small paddletail, and it was not kicking. With a 4 or 5 inch trailer, you're looking at well over three quarters of an ounce total. Plus it has a lot of drag coming through the water.

Whatever skirt catches your fancy. When I'm not tying my own, I buy the cheap ones that still look good to me (usually strike kings). (use some mono or floral wire to tie over the rubber band).

The weight depends on how deep and how fast you want to fish. I generally fish quarter oz texas and slip shot rigs but I also like to fish super slow. Most would probably use 3/8 or 1/2 oz. Maybe even 3/4 oz if fishing fast deeper than 20FOW. C-rigs are often used to cover water, although I don't usually fish them like that. I'm not particular about colors, anything natural works for me. Can't help you there.

6th sense and cobra bobber stoppers work good.

Thanks man.

So I match the weights all together? So I should go with probably....a 3/8 brass-n-glass. Okay, sounds good.

I can't seem to find a 3/8 on TW so I'm probably going to go with...a 5/32.

Ugh, I don't know. This is one of those things where once I get em once, I'll be comfortable getting them again haha

Sending the order in tomorrow after this final question gets answered on the original post.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Just think by the time this thread has had its fill there will be an actual TW sale!

fishing user avatardeep reply :

So what's the final question again? There's a bunch of them in the original post and I haven't kept track of which ones got answered.

Yes. Labor day.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Final question is, what do you guys recommend for brand of floro and mono?

I have Strenn for both but i wanna upgrade. If ya could recommend something good get not too pricy

fishing user avatardeep reply :

Seaguar Invizx and Sufix Elite, respectively.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

After 6 pages of this over 2 weeks, you really must share with us what you decided after all to order.

fishing user avatarJGBassinAL reply :

If I might add, on the dropshot hooks (if you are still getting hooks) you need to get the Roboworm Rebarb hook in 1/0 light. It hooks them in the roof of the mouth every time and way less fish pull off.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Appreciated! You guys are gonna laugh at the order cause this is more of an upgrade my stock tye thing. I'm not buying anything spectacular.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Anybody else want to weigh in on their preferred mono and floro?

Sure, for mono Suffix Elite has always treated me well for an inexpensive offering. For flourocarbon I almost extensively use Tatsu and Sniper. Invisix and Abrisix are solid bets as well though I don't use them much anymore.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Mono I just use Big Game or Trilene.  Fluoro I use Sniper or InvisX, though the InvisX is only because all of the local Sports Authorities cleared them out and I got a ton of spools on sale.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

Appreciated guys.

I still haven't ordered this stuff, I'm just making sure I finalize it.

I'm going to post one more thing in a little to answer and then I'm submitting it tonight if I get enough feedback.

Thanks for the patience

So, here's some final help!

I had my order made out and realized there were some things I wasn't 100% sure of.

Rod(s): 6'6 M with 15# PowerPro and a 12# Fluoro Leader || 1/4-3/4 Lure Weight & 13-14lb line=6'6 MH with 30# PowerPro and i'll probably put a 12# leader on that as well. They're both spinning.

1. I put on Brass-n-Glass Weights for a Carolina Rig but I was told that I can have the same outcome by purchasing glass beads at a fabric store, a swivel and some mojo weights. The thing I need the most are good bullet weights so if ya'll can suggest a good type of bullet weight for C-Rigs on TW, that'd be perfect.

2. Someone suggest good replacement trebles for my Zara Spook. Also, if any of you ALWAYS swap out your trebles on certain lures, what are they?

3. What jigs do you recommend from Seibert Outdoors? I guess I'm not going to buy any from TW.

4. As of now, the leading for mono is Sufix Elite and Fluoro is Seaguar InvizX. I plan on using the mono for top water and that'll be on my 6'6 MF Rod[spinning].

Thanks ya'll!

gamakatsu treble hooks are good..

I usually dont change the hooks when I get a lure until i've caught a few fish on it, eventually it could bend or get dull..

so IMO don't have to change them right away. use them for a little while..

goodluck..

people will tell you to get this or that, but at the end of the day you'll figure out what you like/works best for you..im still figuring out what I like and I have tons of stuff
