Recently DSG's SE stores had all clearance stuff (ending with .47 or .97) on at 25% off. Some perfectly good baits, terminal tackle, line, etc are included in the sale. My experience has been that they will further reduce prices (typically to 50% off clearance) later in January, just not exactly sure when. Please sound the bait monkey alert when the time comes...
Welcome aboard, Snake!
DSG has a lot of great sales, depending on
which store you go to...
Found a few xCalibur squarebills for $2 today.
My local DSG had all their Lucky Craft SR squarebills and mid divers on sale for 6.97 + 25% off. I got em all. They had a few 25 and 50 size 1 knockers left which was odd but I got those as well for 2$ a piece.
Huh. I witnessed none of these magical happenings at the DSG closest to me last week.
I'll have to stop by the one DSG in the area on the way back from trout fishing this weekend.
Thanks for the reminder, I normally pick up bags of trick worms & Senkos during this time of year..
Thanks guys. I got into bass fishing after I walked into a DSG late in January last year and discovered prices on tackle were rock-bottom, stocked up, and since that time have been tossing baits into trees and rocks every few day for 12 months straight. Before then, I had no clue what a "bait monkey" was. They've been reducing stuff at our southern stores, and have had either buy two get one, or the 25% extra basically since Thanksgiving. Still nothing as crazy cheap as I saw later in Jan last year so I figure they might get lower still toward the middle of the month.
About this time last year, I got some GREAT deals at the local DSG (St Croix Rage rod and Quantum Smoke reel less than $80/ea, as well as other stuff.) Stopped by there on Sun and found absolutely nothing that interested me. I'll drop by again in coming days, because they used to spread their clearance stuff around to different stores at 'random' times in Jan, but I'm not too optimistic.
I picked up some twitch sticks for 3 bucks a piece over the weekend. The soft plastics they had on clearance wasn't anything I was interested in. It just depends on the store. I've seen some good stuff people on here have picked up for cheap, but not in my local dsg.
Tungsten weights (bullet and drop shot) for less than $3 a pack up here. It does vary from store to store though. Not sure why really.
They had some scatter raps and some rattling raps at the one closest to my work. Picked up a handful of them in the colors I use.
Thanks for the heads up! Will be checking it out this week for sure.
If i see sales in Detroit area i'll post.
if i remember correctly it was like the last week of january/first week of february last year.... i found quite a few great deals. my last few trips around here have not been very good though. i'll have to do another sweep soon and see if anything has changed!
there was a three for ten deal on some soft plastics around Christmas time. I'll keep an eye out near the end of this month
Also noticed that Senkos, at least in my area, went from 7.99 to 8.59 a bag....

Matching BPS's full retail pricing.
Will have to check our local DSG to see
if the bad news is true.
I'll have to check DSG next week, maybe sooner if I get some extra cash. Gander Mountain has been a bust lately and haven't seen much at Academy either.
Inside source let me know it will stay 25% off and not go to 50% off this year.
Lots of good stuff to be had though. I paid $11 for some nanofil just to give it a try next year.
Last year I paid 75$ for a pflueger patriarch.

Score! I was just commenting in another thread that I cleared most of the pegs at Ten bucks a pop for some LC stuff. At that price every peg would of been ghost!

i did too... last year's offerings were incredible. i've yet to see anything this year that catches my eye as too good to pass up....
Just did a check-in at DSG today. No changes as of mid-week. Stuff is pretty sparse at the stores in N. GA at this point. Not a lot to hold out for. Will keep looking and updating.
I just hit some tackle stores today as well... Dick's, Academy Sports, Gander Mountain and a local bait shop that makes their own soft baits.
Dick's does not have a large selection of anything. They did have a few clearance items, and discounted those clearance priced items another 25% on top of that for anything with a price that ends in a 7, like $2.97 would get another 25% off that. So I picked up some lures for a good price but no rods.
Academy Sports was horrid! Prices are through the roof, and no sales! I did not spend a penny there.
Gander Mountain had some good clearance items and I spent some dough in there. But my local bait and tackle store was where I found the real deals with bags of rubber worms, swimbaits, craws, etc. for a $1 per bag including Rage Tails, Strike King, Berkley powerbaits, Havoc, etc. all $1 per bag. I plan on going back there soon.
Even if Dick's has a great sale coming, they simply do not have no where near the size or variety of fishing tackle as other stores do. Dick's is either downsizing or has downsized to a minimum. I have just about reached the point of writing them off.
By the way, is this 25% off chainwide across the country or is it certain regions/stores? I'd hate to drive out to the two DSG's around here and not find the extra 25% off!
went by today. Not much on sale, except some stuff nobody wants...Had some vmc trailer hooks marked down to 1.49, got them and a bama shirt for my boy.
Got home and the trailer hooks rung up 3.49, not the 1.49 as stickered on the rack...I usually look when ringing up, but the checkout girl was cute, and I had to double take the $26 price on the shirt and totally forgot about the hooks...ya, they got me.

Blackshirt, I don't know for sure if the 25% off on clearance is at all stores. The ones I saw had varying quantities and types of baits on clearance, but not much else. One place had a decent selection on clearance, another had almost nothing. There is nothing that I've seen indicating additional markdowns in their ads, just at the stores. A handwritten sign in the one yesterday said there would remain an additional 25% off through January. So I would call first before making a long trip.
Theres only scheels and gander mountain here in central Wisconsin. All sale items are things I wouldn't get/want and all the other nonsale stuff is ice fishing....how's a guy supposed to spend all his money?!

I can't say if it is nationwide, but it is ongoing at the two stores I have visited here in Orlando area. I went into Dick's store today and they had the fishing clearance displays blocking the front door so I guess they really want to sell that stuff and get it out of the store.
I bought a few lures and some Sufix 832 marked down to $14.97 and an additional 25% off that, so my price out the door was about 50% off retail.
And while I was there, the store was overhauling their fishing lures displays adding in some new DOA rubber baits which will be something to look forward to on sale because the DOA packages had like 12 pieces per bag rather than the standard 5 to 8 pieces we see for more money. So when those are marked down they will be a better value to stock up on.
I stopped by the two Dick's nearby. Both had the 25% clearance on sale items, and one had a dedicated rack by the hunting section they put a bunch of stuff on. Both places had 90% of the same SKUs on markdown. I did get some punch skirts and tungsten weights, and got a *** Combat Frog on a whim (though reading reviews it looks like it takes on water and sinks). I might go back and clear out the Storm Arashi cranks. They did have Lew's Tournament Speed Spins at 25% off their discounted price but don't really need any more spinning reels.
I went to the DSG in Saugus, MA. I saw a few Abu Garcia Veritas rods for $75, Trokar hooks for $5.99, and a few lures here and there. I was expecting to see more fishing stuff on sale.

Buy Yum Dingers. Save almost $6 a bag every time.
I will have to go check them out. Don't think I will beat the deals I got last year when they had Berk plastics and Sebile cranks 2 for 5$ with a 5$ rebate on the purchase of 2 Sebile or Berk baits. Only paid for the tax on those. It is weird though how they seem to add and remove the extra off at random, it's not like they even take the clearance stock down to zip. I don't complain and stock up on what I can. The score card coupons can be winners too with these deals.
On 1/19/2016 at 8:20 AM, Outdoor Zack said:Buy Yum Dingers. Save almost $6 a bag every time.
Oh I've used Dingers, but they're not go-to for me.
I actually use BPS Stik-O mostly, and only a couple colors
in GYCB that I can't get in other brands.
Ok. Never used Stick-Os before, always found what I needed in the Dinger. To each his own...
My DSG was almost too much for me to handle. The excalibur square bills for 2 bucks, arashi square bills for 4 bucks, shadow raps for 5, livingston jerkbaits for 5. There was an assortment of DTs and plastics for super cheap. Also 25% off of all fishing line. Hopefully your store is packed, because mine was.
Livingston cranks were half off so re-stocked up on those. The shadow raps were half off in only some colors so got some of those as I heard good things and had none. VMC tungsten was half off so finally going to try out tungsten. Thats about it, nothing great but some ok deals.
We are at 25% here and holding. I've had my eye on a veritas rod that's still hanging out in the clearence bucket. If it gets down to <$40 like the 5 I bought a couple of years ago, i will get it quick!
Live target and Livingston are 25% off and I will probably get some this upcoming weekend.
There are two gloomis rods at 25%off $119 in there right now that are trying to make me buy them, even though I have no use for them at all. Lol.
No monkey! Bad monkey!
Never knew DSG sold tackle. The DSG's by me don't. My monkey is jealous!
Nothing really good by me. A lot of saltwater tackle though. If you're into that...

You'll enjoy it...fantastic on spinning rods...no wind knots, very little line twist. Its just expensive.
Went to the one by me today. They have senkos for 6.49 plus 25% off. A few other odd ball items but nothing I was interested in. I did happen to grab a live target wake bait for $ 10 though. Everywhere else has them for $20 around me. So I feel i got a little bit of a deal anyway. The fishing section is pretty lame in the store closest to me. I will stick with academy and some of the crazy deals they have.
My local dsg hardly even cares about their fishing section. Thanks for the heads up I may actually go this weekend.
I don't have a Dicks sporting good or academy....lame.
Picked up a bunch of the Rapala shadow raps and the Lucky Craft SKR DR crankbaits for just under $5, and 3 packages of VMC spinshot dropshot hooks $2/ea.
Otherwise there really wasn't much to get excited about.
There we no sale signs at the Dicks in Canton CT. They had a bunch of stuff marked with the .97 but no additional markdown after that.
Had a meeting this evening on the other area of town and stopped by a different location and they had some decent stuff... Cut-r worms for $3 flick shakes $2.50 Gammy skip gap hooks $2.25 rage blades $3.75 and little z man chatters were .23 cents
all after discount...
I cleaned mine out of skip gap hooks too! I love those things.

Where in Nor Cal ? I'm in Chico and haven't seen anything like this yet .
I went to the DSGs in Fremont and Dublin. Just call and ask if they're participating in the extra 25% off yearly clearance, because it's storewide in all departments not just fishing.
Cool thanks for the info
My understanding of DSG clearance is that ANY sale item ending in .97 is also an additional 25% off.
On 1/20/2016 at 1:36 PM, SoFloBassFiend said:My understanding of DSG clearance is that ANY sale item ending in .97 is also an additional 25% off.
So it would seem, but at my DSG they balked saying the items with .97 ending weren't "in the sale section", even though they were on sale.
I probably still should have punished them for that. And gotten the bag of soft plastics they accidentally labeled "$0.01".
Was that at the register? This is chain wide so it should ring 25% extra.
There are excluded departments though. Guns, optics, camping, and golf equipment are not additional off clearance. All fishing is extra off .97 endings. The whole store is 75% off .93 endings but those are used for clothes /shoes not tackle.

Yep, at the register.
My DSG is a perpetual disappointment.
My local DSG has a big sign at the entrance that says "Clearance Sale - Ends in .97 Additional 50% Off"
However, everything ending in .97 is only an additional 25% off.... Sigh.
They suck! I went there with a gift card looking to buy a particular spinning combo they had advertised on the website. Pfleuger President. They didn't have but maybe three combos of lower quality on the rack. I asked about it and they told me come back in a few weeks and they'd have their "seasonal fishing equipment" out. I went back and nothing had changed. So I spent my money and some more on a kayak for my daughter. It was a backup plan I had already discussed with the wife and we surprised my daughter on the spot.
Dick's doesn't even seem to know what species of fish we have here.
Pick up some kietech 4.8. A pack $3.73.
Once they opened Field and Stream in suburb of Detroit they closed the Dicks across the street. F& S is overpriced with minimal selection from my perspective.
I was able to snag a Shimano 2500FD for 21 bucks and Stufix 832 briad for 11 bucks a spool. The hardbait selection this year wasn't as good as last year
I also cleaned out one MN Twin Cities dicks location of their $4 packages of Senkos. Sorry! Only two colors were discounted.
Man, I seriously hope that there are no deals like I found last year on Crucials in this sale. I am literally afraid of finding a MXF in a "too good to say no" deal.

same thing, but they did have a sign that said 75% off .93 items and it was true... got some micro chatter baits for 23 cents!

man i wish!! they were "on sale" for like 7.49 at mine... for 3.73 i'd have cleared them out.
I just went to a larger store in my area and got a Field and Stream Tec Spec Arsenal rod for $70. These things are great. I already have 2 and love them. They were originally $129. Love the Fuji SK2 reel seats and K alconite guides.
Got some Livingston 10ft cranks for $9 and lipless crank for $5!
Awesome price on those Keitechs, I would have wiped them out as well.

Ok....noooooow I'm ticked haha. I don't understand what is wrong with my stores?! The only things on sale are garbage! Stupid eau claire
Now that we have a cabelas here in Buffalo, I spend my money there or order online from bass pro. Don't go to dsg anymore. .
There was only these 3 along with another pack which one of the store assistant took after I told him to scan the item. There were alot more keitech but they were not mark down. They also had the Megabass Dot crawler onsale for 4.09. I might go back today incase the mark more stuff down. The worker there did say they are continuing to marking down more stuff during the week so we'll see.
Ugh now I need to go back and see if more stuff is being marked down. Does this go through the end of January? February?
Less than $8 all together.. finally!
I checked out three DSG's close to me and bought a RevoMGX for 149.98 and a Veritas 6ft 9in for 56.23. Senkos for 4.48, in watermelon, bought one bag. That was all that was left. KVD squarebills in 2.5 DB craw for 2.98. That was the only choice of color and size. They had Strike King Perfect Skirts-magic tails for 1.49 and I got one pack. I got everything from one store the other 2 didn't have anything worth buying.
I saw the Revo one day and left without buying it. The more i thought about it the more i wanted to get it. I was happy to see it was still there. The reason i didn't buy it the first time i saw it was because i asked one of the clerks if the .97 ending price was good for the 25% off the reel. He said no. Well i remembered later them saying that one other time Citicas were marked down. They were so I thought what the heck. i took it to the checkout and if they didn't reduce it the 25% more i would tell them i didn't want it. The extra came off so i was a proud owner of a new MGX. They didn't have any other reels marked down with the .97. but I'll keep going back to check. I remember when Wal-mart was marking down the old Curados and i got three for $25. I guess you just have to persevere.
I grabbed 4 Xcalibur craw squarebills for $2ish a piece last week. Pretty terrible selection for bass at the one near me. For some reason they still have Megabass though.
I just swung by my Dicks and grabbed a Abu Orra SX combo rod without the reel for $13 whole dollars. I figure it'll be a good learning rod. Who cares if I break it?

Don't break it! It's a good combo. Was my first pair. In three years I repaired one guide and Mike DVT serviced the reel, but it has been good to me. If I came across another anywhere near that price I'd grab 2

I don't intend on breaking it. It was just the rod, missing the reel.
Sorry. I misread. The rod isn't the most sensitive, but not bad at all. I still use it for swim jigs and frogs.
Picked up a few steals all for under 15 bucks terminator titanium SBS $1.12 each. Thanks for the info guys
...And my DSG was a disappointment as always. Virtually nothing on sale.
Just stopped in to my local DSG. After reading everyone's posts and going for myself today, I'm thinking their post-holidays sale may not wind up including the deep discounts I remember from last year. Select items, and not at every store. Seems like they are holding at 25% off clearance to average about 50% off retail on certain very select items (or colors) nationwide at this point. I noticed that one store might have an item discounted, while another not at all (e.g. particular colors of KVD jerkbaits). I asked a manager if they would go lower, and he said he didn't know (said it like he truly didn't know, FWIW). Will be interesting to see if anything changes.
We're getting a DSG in the fall. Can't wait until I have a second option that is better than wal-mart.
I toured my local DSG today and nothing was really on sale.
stopped in yesterday and got some jackall flick shakes for $2.60/pack and thought i'd give the scatter rap another shot so i scooped up 2 of the deep cranks for under $5 each, also found a 10' livingston crankbait in the "pro blue" color for under $5...
I stopped by a larger store near my parents house and was able to get 6 packs of Jackall plastics @ $2.60/ea. 2 scissor combs in crawdad, and 2 in green pumpkin/chartreuse. 2 packages of the 5" flick shake in watermelon red flake.
I'm happy I stopped in. I think these scissor combs will be interesting with a punch rig.
I went to one in mass and it wasn't like last year when I got a lexa and a veritas for 75 bucks and tons of tackle for real cheap. Maybe I went to late last year I went right after Christmas and it was like heaven.
I stopped into one of the local DSG stores and the guy working in the fishing section was wearing a tackle warehouse long sleeve t-shirt.
No wonder that store never has any good lures on clearance, they have a fellow addict on the payroll with first shot at all of the good stuff.
My local DSG had a bunch of the Missile Ike mini flip jigs on clearance, as well as chigger Craws. I bought 10 jigs and 3 packs of the Craws. Great deal.
DSG clearance going into February? I went last week thinking it was over in January and found a stash of 7 bags of KVD Dreamshots in Morning Dawn and Brown Purple for like $1.70/bag. I wiped them out because I use the Dreamshots, in those colors, regularly!
the DSG by me sucks. when it first opened 5ish years ago it had a nice fishing department but it has shrunk every year since. only thing I buy there is line when they have good sales
The two DSG by me very rarely have good tackle sales. I was visiting my brother and had $90.00 in scorecard rewards so I stopped by the DSG near him. I got some really good deals on a few Livingston Lures (lipless cranks and the howlers) which were marked from $12 to 6. Other than that, a few boo yeah buzz baits for $2.00 and that was it for lures.
I did fare well with terminal tackle. The VMC hooks were already on sale and then they were an additional 25% off. I love my gammys, but I break off before my hooks wear dull and straight outage pack I think these VMCS are equivalent. So I bought all the wacky hooks, trailer hooks, swimsuit hooks, and flipping hooks they had. I would have bought more but that was all they had. Somewhere around 30 packs of hooks. I should be pretty set for hooks this year, and looking forward to finally trying out tungsten.
I wish we had these deals up here in Canada.
The sales we have up here are pretty sad.
seems like us northern guys don't get much love from dick's - they're just like all the big stores....sit around in meetings deciding what we need by demographics....bass pro isn't much better. they've decided to sell mostly johnny morris and bps more than anything else. you used to be able to get anything you wanted from them years ago. corporate america rules !!
you guys are lucky ! the two DSG stores out in my area of San Diego , Ca . both don't sell ANY fishing stuff , the stores are worthless .....
Stopped in today. Still had the same baits on clearance as they've had for over a month (many of them have been on "clearance" back to early October) -- whatever was left. The store I went to said the 25% additional off is now over. Not sure what they'll do with the remaining "clearance" stuff.
Here in north Georgia and the Carolinas I have seen some decent prices at the various DSG stores, especially when they have their periodic sales As other posters stated, it turned out January was not as good as a year ago, but there were a few decent deals here and there.
I found a quantum smoke on sale, but they only had the floor model left. When they went to find the box, they couldn't locate the side knob so they sold the reel to me for $30. The side know cost me 2 bucks from quantum. Can't beat that.
I wish my DSG had good stuff.. Around me thats pretty much all I get as far as a fishing store.
I tend to stick to shopping online.
Hopefully one day it gets better!
i think i paid about $45 with markdowns,+ 50% off
Nice haul! Is this from back in January or is your DSG giving 50% off clearance right now?
This was from this Thursday
I stopped at a DSG near Cincinnati and was amazed at the stuff they had. It blew away the ones I go to here in Louisville. Only picked up one square bill, a kvd 1.5 in pb&j color. I'd never even seen that color anywhere online.
Interesting thread im gonna look around more next time i go to dicks

On March 5, a quick check shows the clearance baits in the Atlanta area are down to buy two get one free. That said, pickings are slim at this point. Good luck!
