I just thought this might be interesting and fun. We always debate our favorites but this may open some eyes.
I am blessed to have mostly nice high end gear....HOWEVER....
My PB in my avatar was caught with a BPS Crankin Stick and a BPS David Friitts Cranking Reel (bait = Strike King series 5 in sexy shad)
Daiwa Tierra 2000 spooled with 8lb P-Line CX on a Avid AS69MLXF
Shakespeare Dimension with 14lb test (I think, maybe its 12) on a Tournie Trail Cabelas rod. Med/heavy.
Shimano Sahara 2500 with 8lb. Sufix Elite on a 6'8" ML BPS Extreme "Woo Daves"
Carrot stix mh and a Daiwa 153 Black Widow II
G Loomis MBR 844c GLX and Diawa TD103
St Croix Legend Tournament Series sweeper spinnerbait with a Shimano Cruxis.
Interestingly, that is my least favorite cheapest reel and least favorite, by a mile, rod I own.
There's along story that goes with this one, but my PB was caught on a Zebco 202 with a $3 rod with one guide broken off. Here's the story....

It was a while back...I think I was like 13 fishin a strip pit in Sanderson FL. Anyhow, I was using a Quantum Energy reel...I don't remember the model # but it was a kinda sparkly brownish/burnt orange color baitcaster and a berkley hunter graphite rod, throwin a red shad culprit jerk worm. 11.5 lbs! Sadly I was a youngster who was too young to be conservation minded and had a skin mount made of that fish and another 10+ I got outta there about a year later. In the long run it wouldn't have mattered though because the pit dried up totally.
Sept 17th 1994. Shimano Castaic spooled with Berkley 17lb XT mounted on 6'6" Berkley Lightning Rod B-50. I still have both and still use the reel, which Reel Mech serviced over the winter and works like new. The rod, which I loved back then, is retired.
A pflueger president spinning reel and an all star ultralight rod. The fish was 8lbs 1 oz.

I'm seeing a trend here. That is the 3rd PB that has come off of an old Lightning Rod. I did break my PB in '06 on a Loomis GLX, but I've only caught 4 fish over 7lbs in my life, and 3 of those were back in '89-'92, on my old trusty 6' M Berkley Lightning rod (black foam baby!) spinning combo. . Those rods were the sh!t back in the day.

I remember those black foam handle Lightning Rods from the early 90's I caught my PB Chain Pickerel and Rainbow Trout on one of those paired with a Shimano Syncopate. Its still hard for me to beat the cast I used to get from that combo.
Interesting topic. Looks like a lot of PB's are several years old. This reinforces the idea that a true trophy is a very rare creature, no matter where you are.
I've caught two 8 pound largemouth.
#1. about 15 years ago
6' Team Daiwa George Cochran model rod
Daiwa TD2-Hi reel, #10 or #12 XL line

The 8lber I caught earlier this summer was on a:
Fenwick Techna AV
Shimano Citica 100D
Yo-Zuri Hybrid ultra soft #12
6' M 2pc. Ugly stick with a cheap Abu Cardinal Spinning reel and 14# Trilene XL. This was my first spinning rod and what got me hooked on bass fishing. I sold it a few years ago when I started upgrading all of my equipment.

S*t happened my man, I met a Californy girl, dated her for several years and finally got married to her and then had two beautiful kids with her; nowdays I don 't fish as much as I used to before dating her, so less time on the water ---> less chances of hooking a goodun with my newer tackle.
Daiwa Procaster with a 7'6 H BPS Bionic Blade
7' med-hvy moderate st. Croix avid, with a shimano citica spooled with 14# suffix braid caught on a yellow and black baby 1-
my buddy FAILS at taking pics he only got about 1/3 of the fish in the pic
The fish in my avatar was my largest, stupid me didn't have a scale. BR Member guesses ranged from 5-7lbs, I stick to 5lb just so i can break it easier =D
anyways, it was on a 6'6" BPS extreme MH, the old ones didn't have an action rating on them but it felt like a mod. fast compared to my MHF St croix. Reel was a Shimano Citica 201 with some kind of braid.
Chronarch MG50 on a Loomis IMX with 10 lb test line... the 9 lber spun the basshound around twice before we could get it landed... not an hour later the guy I was fishign with landed a 12 lber *sigh*... that day I saw three fish over 9 pounds pulled out of that lake in less than 2 hours... it will be YEARS I am sure before I see something like that again..
a Shimano Cardiff with a Cabela's 7 ft tourney rod, both of which I no longer have because they both failed. However I did catch a 7lb largie on it so I can't complain too much! ;D
On a 5'9" ML F pro tourney rod and Shimano Sedona 2500 reel, with a purple worm rigged wacky style.
20" LM, approx. 5 lbs.
5'6" Fenwick pistol grip with an Abu 5000C when I was 13(23 years ago), she weighed 12#8oz.

First actual cast with it as well.
Later,
BPS Tourney Special 7' MH w/ Quantum inferno
6'9" MXF St Croix legend tourney, Daiwa Tierra 2500, 2/10 power pro with an 8lb flouro leader. 20" smallie probably just over 4lbs and a 25" largemouth that went between 6 and 7 (post spawn) both fish (sm + lg) ironically caught using a skinny 4" tube.
Shimano Compre 7ft M-XF rod and Pflueger President 6035 with 8 lb silver thread. 3/0 EWG w/ watermelon red flake tiki stik in 3ft of water.
