You guys gave me a lot of crap yesterday because I post pics of bass I KEEP and how much I fish my spot. I apologize for losing my cool. I won't apologize for calling any of you, who had two cents, sorry. Cause you are.
I get to fish every morning for an hour, hour and a half by myself. ;D It's awesome. I catch bass pretty much everyday. If I keep a bass it's usually cause it's a personal best. And I've had a few of them over the past couple of months. I NEVER keep a bass if it's not legal in this state and the legal ones I do keep are either in MY frying pan that same day or they go to people I know who really enjoy the fish or really need them.
It really bothered me that so many of you guys would be so judgemental about another person's fishing habits. You guys act like I'm taking fish from you! >
I felt so bad that I did'nt want to get up and go fish this morning. That's how much it bothered me. But you know what? I went anyways! Everybody on my end of this computer congratulated me. They let me know that I am not doing anything wrong by enjoying catching fish and sharing my catches with others. It became obvious that there may be some "HATERS" on this website.
But that's kewl cause I'm gonna keep on fishing "my spot" and bringing home those beauties. And sharing them with people who appreciate what I do. The body of water I fish on is the size of 3 or 4 football fields and you guys think I'm gonna catch "all the bass in it?" AND I FISH FROM THE SHORE!
So to the "Haters", I caught a 17 inch bass this morning on my modified Texas Rig. It was beautiful. I dropped it off to a friends place after all was said and done and I'll be out 2morrow at the same place and the same time trying to catch more.
Maybe you should do the same where you are....
Catch me up on whats going on. Its says its your first post, so first off, welcome to the forum.
Three easy ways to get on the bad side of the majority of the forum.
Don't talk politics, religion, cause everyone has their own opinion, and it just leads to feelings that get hurt, and occassionally tempers getting hot.
We love bass pictures, but some don't care for the guys who proclaim to eat bass on a regular basis.
Best to report your catches and leave the other details out. Even when its legal.
What people don't know can't bother them.
Great site for learning new info, and sharing of it also.\
Hookem and welcome to the forum
Matt
Dabnis,
You bought a license, so what you do with the fish you catch is your business. I've got no beef with anyone who obeys the law.
BUT if you go on a braggin' board on any bass fishing website in the country and show kitchen shots of your fish, you're going to hear about it. Catch all you want. Keep all you want. Just don't brag about it to a bunch of guys who believe passionately in catch and release.
Dan
I really didn't want to say anything, but I can't pass this up. I missed the post from which you posted this one.
First let me start by saying that you have every right to take the legal fish you catch, poor ethics or not.
But........ if everyone at that lake does the same thing as you, you won't have any legal fish to bring home. I have seen it happen at a couple lakes that I fish frequently too.
IMO, a true angler KNOWS that LM and SM bass are way to valuable resource to harvest, especially the larger fish that have the genetics necassary to help the fishery thrive in the future. Weither you mount them or eat them. Now a days you can get a replica made with measurements of the fish and have it painted exactly the same with pictures. And if your that desperate for food, I'm sure you have a local grocery store.
Give trout fishing a try. They taste much better, and in the long run trout fishing is much cheaper than bass fishing. And you won't ruin the fishery for the rest of us.
dabnis,
I never saw your post or obviously, any replying posts. So...I'm not sure what's up with all that.
To start over, let me say that you are welcomed here and entilted to keep ALL your fish that have been legally taken, meet size requirements and do not exceed the limit. Some of our members may be just a little overzealous about Catch & Release, but as the #1 Bass Forum on the internet, we STRONGLY encourage C & R on a regular basis. Many of us keep an occasional fish, but a lot of the guys prefer eating other species. I happen to be a fan of walley, sauger, crappie, catfish, striper and an occasional trout.
So, take a deep breath...This is a friendly crowd and if you feel like you are being targeted by ANY member(s), please send me a PM (personal message) through the BassResource.com message function and it WILL BE ADDRESSED.

To quote Dabnis:
"17 1/2 and a the 16. I know where the spot is.....
You know what? You guys are sorry! NONE of the fish I bring home goes to waste. ALL OF THE FISH that I've caught over the past 2 months have gone to people who NEED and really enjoy the fish. Can't stand you judgemental scoundrels. I use to think this was the best bass website on the net. Screw you guys. You can take me off of this site. I'll never post another picture on this site. "

Who's braggin? Maybe EVERYBODY who posts a pic? You guys are that superficial that you can't enjoy the moment with a person? I've never had anything bad to say about anybody on this site in regards to what their doing and how they're doing it. This part of the site is supposed to be for people showing and sharing their fishing trips. I always try to let the folks know what's working for me and how. I take the pics in my kitchen cause the light outside always messes up the pic. Digital camera that I haven't figured out all the way. Can't take em at the spot cause I'm by myself.
I don't eat bass everday. I don't bring fish home everyday. But I do fish everyday and catch fish pretty much everyday. Does'nt mean I keep em.
Over the past couple of weeks I've caught the biggest bass I've ever caught in my life. The 21 incher had me giddy. It was awesome. Lots of folk can't believe that I caught em where I did, but I did.
Folks got a problem with that, well, that's THEIR problem. Until one of the administrators of this site says that I'm doin something wrong, *****.
I see guys with pictures of fish I'd love to catch on this site all of the time. I don't care where they took it or what they've done with it. They could hoop and holler about it all day and it would'nt bother me. Know why? Cause it does'nt matter. They're where they are and here I am.
You guys got a problem with my pics and posts? Don't read em or look at em. But most of all, DON'T HATE! For any reason...

So, you're pretty much saying, "I'll post whatever I want, when I want, and no one's gonna stop me?" That's a way to make friends.
Personally, I haven't got over the " Screw you guys. You can take me off of this site. I'll never post another picture on this site" comment you made yesterday.
QuoteCan't take em at the spot cause I'm by myself.
just put the fish on the ground next to your reel for a size reference....then hold the camera out in front and shoot a pic of yourself holdin the bass...then let it go...then get some crappies, cats, gills, walleye? and eat/give those away..they taste better than bass anyways
Know what? I don't care if you've gotten over it. Seriously. It says at the top of this forum "What worked, what did'nt. Ask for advice or just BRAG like the rest of us." That's what I was doing. I apologized for losing my cool. If that ain't enough, go fish!
Is it that hard to take pictures at the lake? Kitchen shots are tough for many fishers on here to stomach, and it's not a pretty site.
Why not, take the pics at the lake, and leave it to yourself whether or not you took the fish home.
Hey Dabnis,
It's ok to brag. Braggin' is part of fishing. If I were catching big fish right now, I'd love to come on this board and brag a little.
It's the kitchen braggin' that will upset people. If you post pictures from your kitchen on this or any other site, you can expect an education on catch and release. If you are sensitive to this criticism, which you obviously are, then don't post kitchen shots.
Like others have said, this is a good site, just be careful when it comes to politics, religion, and catch and release.

Because Brokejaw, that would require respect for other members and forethought, which this guy doesn't have at all.
dabnis, check your pm box
you did nothing wrong dabnis, just keep fishing and having a good time. i catch and release 95% of the bass i catch, and if someone has a problem with the 5 % i keep then that is their problem, and i don't let it bug me. i guess from now on just take a pic of your bass from your bathroom, since people got upset about seeing your kitchen

I think you just need to calm down. "BRAGING" about a fish is different from "BRAGING" about eating it...
I personally release the fish I catch.
As for keeping fish, as long as you are within the law of your fish and game commission then do your thing.
While it may not be the most accepted thing on the board there are alot worse things he could be doing. If he is staying in the limits and within the law, then so be it. That and no one knows the body of water he is fishing and whether or not it needs to have some sleective harvest. Ive fished places before that had lots of nice fish, but lots of nice skinny fish and a big case of bigheaded bass(and a spine with no meat).
I am in the same boat as Lane but once again it is just a fish, and selective harvest isnt a bad thing no matter how much it pains someone to think about a bass under the knife. It is aj ust a fish, and once you start humanizing fish it starts to take on the PETA stance IMO. Fish die, it happens, and alot more than you see on the boards. Yeah he could keep some smaller fish but its his right to keep them and also he has the same right to post his story as anyone else here.
Either way nice fish, keep at it but maybe take a picture outside or something to keep some of the more sensitive members at peace

Hey guys I havent been on this site in a few days realy. My best friend is visiting me from seatle and I been hanging out with her often. Im also buisy with summer school and havent had much time to post on here or fish that much. Anyway catch and release is best which is all I do but I dont have a problem with this guy keeping fish as long as hes not just killing them for the sake of killing them which he obviously is not. He seems to be only keeping fish to eat or give to friends. As long as he doesent kill every good size fish he catches it wont hurt the population. Lots of people at my local lakes keep the occasional bass/carp/catfish for dinner and the fish population is still pretty good and the lakes are not stocked anymore. Even though I only practice catch and release I dont mind the people who keep a fish as long as they use them for food or something. I am going to go check out his other posts now.

Everything you wrote is true, and I dont' think people are upset that he's keeping the fish on occasion, it's just the posting of kitchen pictures that's really getting to everyone.
Keep your fish if you'd like, just dont' show us kitchen shots, that's all most people care about (like myself).
People are entitled to do what they want, as long as it's following the law, which he is obviously doing. But if he cares about making friends on here, or showing off fish pictures, at least meet us half way and just show pics from the lake.
Everyone here is very respectful, but please try and respect us as well. That's all I ask, and i'm sure others would like.

Hey dabnis brokejew and Pond Hopper are right here. Doesent matter if you keep some bass for the dinner table. Just if you want to keep one dont let people know you are keeping it and no one withh give you a problem. Take your camera with you and get someone else at the lake to take a shot of you and the bass for you. Or if no ones around just put the fish on the ground next to your rod and reel to show the size of the bass. If you post these pics you dont have to let people know you kept the fish. This way people wont give you a problem. Also from some of your posts dabnis you have been overreacting and have been comeing of kind of rude to other people on this forum. Im just warning you you if you keep annoying people you might get banned. Just warning you. Just try not to get so emotional about criticism and dont post kitchen shots and youl be fine here
Wow, a guy fishing for something to eat WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!! ;D Hey there are ways of DISSAGREEING WITHOUT BEING DISSAGREEABLE I have been guilty of not doing this and the people here and the Mods, helped me how to learn how to discuss touchy subjects without calling people names, threatning to leave the boards or participationg in ugliness IT CAN BE DONE
EXCEPT IN THE CASES WITH GUYS WHO GET A DOLLAR A WORD
Post all the kitchen photos you want, keep all the fish you want. The lake will make more.
Some people act as if bass are d**n near on the endangered species list.
I am not upset that he harvested fish, I'm actually a selective harvest angler myself, I just dislike the way the guy comes on and says, "I'll post my kitchen shots whenever I feel like it, and you guys that don't like it, tough."
Cocky attitudes don't get you friends.
It's kind of funny how a lot of the same people doing all that P&Ming from yesterday are being so polite today. If someone, ANYONE, would have pointed that out to me yesterday, in a nice, polite PM, all this talk would'nt have even started. I got a post from a guy who said that some of you act like bass are on the endangered species list.
What difference does it make where I take a picture? Is there some rule for this board that says you can't take pics in your kitchen? Another guy said maybe I should take them in the bathroom. Would that appease all the sensitive C&R people?
What's so special about catching and keeping Crappies, Walleyes, Blue Gills that's different from bass? You guys the "Bass Police" now?
This is a public forum, isn't it? It says that you can "brag like the rest of us", right? So I bragged and took some pics in my kitchen. I have'nt broken any laws or rules so get over it. If you see my name (dabnis) on the postboard there's probably gonna be some pics and they just might be in my kitchen (or bathroom) so don't stop and look or read. Move on.
And just so's you know troutfisher, I'm not looking for friends. I was just sharing. Just like you.
Whew...this one got out of hand quick! I have already learned my lesson about letting my emotions cloud my judgement and lashing out at other members. Let's just take a deep breath everyone and relax.
I understand both points of view that have been posed here. I am very much for C & R and practice it the vast majority of the time. The only time I keep a bass is when the body of water I am fishing is in need of seletive harvest for the greater good of the overall ecosystem and health of the fishery...and those I keep are usually dinks. That is simply my preference. If this person has decided to keep his catch, then as long as he has purchased a fishing license, obeys all length and limit laws, and doesn't do it ALL the time, then he is well within his rights. I can see how some of these pics may be tough to see. I am not horribly fond of them either. Those are indeed quality fish, the kind I usually release so they can grow bigger and tougher to catch to pose a greater challenge and thrill for those who will catch it after myself. But again, as ,long as it was all done following the letter of the law, then so be it.

I did not message you, nor say anything that should have upset anyone. As I've said before, as long as you're doing it legally, all is fine.
BUT, if you want to show off your fish, and don't want the negative comments, an easy way to get rid of those negative comments would be to be considerate and post pictures that aren't in the kitchen.
You're allowed to post kitchen pictures, but others are allowed to voice their opinions on it as well.
This whole thing just needs to be dropped. This discussion could go on for years, but there's absolutely no point. Post kitchens pictures if you'd like, but if you'd like others to be nice, or happy for you, pictures of them alive may get you that.

Everytime I see that dollar a word stuff I think of that guy...
So Dabnis feels the need to PM me for I dont' know what reason. I don't think I said anything negative about him what so ever.
"I did'nt misunderstand anything. It's not about the forum rules, it's about the *aholes* who think they're better than somebody else. Including you! I'll take my name off this site, unsubscribe to it or wwhatever. I'm just glad that I never have to fish with high and mighty ******** like you and the rest who had two cents to add.
And in closing... You and all the rest can go *he said the f word* yourselves with the bass you "catch and release".
How's that?"
I hope you keep your 4lb PB forever.
This is better than Reality TV. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I gotta go eat my fish now.
