Well today was my first bass fishing trip of the year. Went to my home Lk. Berryessa, which is still pretty chilly, and a bit murky (about 6 ft vis on the main lake). But to be quite honest, I gave my odds of catching even a single fish, about 20%. I did feel that if I caught one though, there would be an 80% chance of it being between 8 and 12 lbs.
The thing was though, I knew the weather was going to be absolutely perfect, and this would be the first real fishing trip since I had my carborator replaced, so I wanted to give it a good solid test run...... and it ran like a top ;-)
Anyway, I pulled up to my first spot, and made a cast with (what else ?) the Hud, and did a medium retrieve, without letting it sink. Nothing. Second cast, I let it sink, but I was "on top of" a long tapering point, instead of beside it in deeper water, and coming up over it. Nothing. Third cast, I let it sink, and it sunk quite a ways. I guess 35 feet or so ? Started my retrieve, got about half way in, and whack ! (geez, I had almost forgotten how cool that feels ;-)) Fish on ! Turned out to be a large framed, but very empty 11.30 lb'er. I swear she looked spawned out already ! But anyway, not a bad way to start the new year :-)
I did have one more sharp little whack, but it really felt like an agressive little 2 lb Spot, instead of a big Largemouth.
Great weather, boat ran great, and a nice bass too :-) All in all, a great trip :-)
Peace,
Fish
Great job! must be nice living in California. Next time post this in fishing outing section though.
Am I keeping up?
#83?
Great fish, great pic!
8-)
20% chance of catching a fish+80% chance of a caught fish weighing between 8-12 pounds=a 16% chance of normal people catching an 8-12 pound bass, or 100% chance of Fish Chris catching a pig!
Nice Catch
And he is off .............
great fish!
Nice toad chris. ;D
Only 11.30.....
Insane catch man. Only catching one fish in an entire trip is well worth it if it is that big. I caught 6 bass today that were all 1-2.5 LB spawning males. I would trade all 6 of those bass for one bass like this one even if it was an 5 hour+ outing. Great catch.
your close.... but this makes 84 :-)
One of these days, I'm going to get a "BIG" one from Berry :-) I've caught (just a quick guess without going back through all of my photo pages) about 10 DD bass from Berry, but the biggest was only 12.6 lbs. This place has 17+ lb'ers...... but they could be anywhere in those 20,000 + acres ! Kind of a tall task.... but with enough persistence, patience, and perseverance...... :-)
Peace,
Fish
Nice HAWG!!!
Awesome start. If you had to say, right now, how many will you catch bigger than that this year?
I wouldn't want to jinx myself, but I do expect to get at least a handful more DD's.... and I'd be surprised (and somewhat let down) if I didn't get at least a low teener.
But of course you just never know...... and if you "did know", what would be the point ?
Time will tell,
Peace,
Fish
it was me that was wrong..... I guess I was trying to get to 100 even sooner ;-)
Had to go back and look at my photo lineup.... but your right.... This was only #83.....
Either way, only 17 to go ;-) .....although I'd rather get just one 19 plus lb'er :-)
Peace,
Fish
QuoteThis was only #83
Pssssshhhhhh..........only 83. You are amazing sir.
Awesome fish Chris, congrats! 8-)
Jumping Juipter, as Perry White would say. (Superman's editor at the newspaper where Clark Kent works)

nice catch chris, you're pics never cease to amaze me.
That's some pig.....
nice color on that beast
the GAME IS ON
fantastic! great fish man.
Chris, are you for hire? You are on point when it comes to fishing. Alot of guys claim to be, but you show them how it is done. I guess you either have an incredible amount of time on the water and have the ability to remember that one tiny detail that made that fish bite and repeat it over and over, or your fishing with dynamite and only take pictures of the biggest ones.... .... Congrats on another great fish.
Great fish. Congrats.
Chris - awesome fish!
Do you realize that the state record LMB for Virginia is only 16-4 ! And, that was caught over 20 yrs ago! I don't really know where I am going with this :-? , except to say that your game is SO totally different! Great fish, and happy hunting !
You're the man Fish!
Wow, it looks like you're running on all cylinders already!
That's a gorgeous bass Chris.
Roger
