With fishing for a while. I haven't been since spring and I don't even have the desire to go anymore. I don't know why but it isn't appealing to me right now. I used to love going as much as I could the last few years it was a way to releave stress and just get outside and enjoy nature.
I don't know I have been under stress all summer and I don't think fishing will even help with that right now. I'm yearning to be in the stand after some turkeys and deer this fall. I'm not quiting just takeing a long break in hopes of getting the passion back next spring.
Has anyone else been through this.
No, but it's all about fun. If you aren't having any, do something different.
Maybe next April you will attend the BassResource 4th Annual Roadtrip at Kentucky Lake.
Hope to meet you there.

I am in the exact same boat right now. The last time I went fishing was 2 weeks ago, I got ONE bite and missed the hook up. I ended up swimming. I have really got into my truck as of late and am consumed with it. I hope I get the fire back sooner or later. Don't worry, give it a little bit and you'll be back out there before you know it.
Fishing is the best stress reliever....even when I don't catch anything! Don't give it up!!!

Never for any length of time and always came back! Most of us will still be here when the passion comes back. See you then my friend ...

Don't worry about it. Fishing doesn't need to be about expectations. In fact, that should be the last thing you put on yourself.
Take a break. Enjoy your hunting. I know I do.
Many people suffer from the Summer Blues. But I don't think that's your problem KY. You need to find something fun.
I used love hunting and I was very good at it. About four years ago I got board with it and decided to make a change and focused on fishing and all was well. I guess I needed a different challenge to occupy my thoughts. I still deer hunt, but only for one or two weeks during the season. I fill my freezer and then I'm done.
Seems everything has it's ebb and flow and that includes fishing....many of us have been there. Just relax and follow the above advice, have fun or don't go. To many times we go with expectations and agenda's hoping to catch alot of fish but that item should be on the back burners....
Take a child fishing and spend some quality time getting back to the simple things that made you love fishing. As you involve yourself with helping a child learn about the outdoors and just basically having fun without having an agenda to go by....you will start to get it back but don't push it....Throw rocks

Same for me. All the ponds I fish at are weeded up to the point there are no pockets to cast in. I also don't have any lake access available and will just wait until spring where every pond is open with no weeds.
Hope you still fish in the future.
i also had this. i fished so much and got used to spring with all the easy fish that when summer came, i couldn't catch $@%# got ticked and took a break, for about a month and then the bass are soming back in shallow for me to find, and im back in the groove!
Also, I'll bet you get the bass bug again over the winter wait! ;D
Some good advice here. My input would be to not let the fact that some passion is missing, add more stress to your life. Having passions is a blessing, if some are stronger than others at times, just be thankful that there are still other things, like hunting, that are available to you for some "me" time.
Some folks are passionate about nothing. I truly feel for these folks.
So, don't sweat it, let it be whatever you need it to be.
OK you're tired of fishing , your life is not ruined. people that focus on one thing too much will have this happen from time to time.
Thanks guys for the advice, Just to let you know I'm not quiting the forum. This is the forum I measure all the others up to and there aren't any that come as close as the great thing going here. I will fish agin there is no question to it but I think you have to lose something for a while in order to appreaciate how much you love it. I'm thinking by spring I'll be ready to set the hook agin.
I know one thing there is not a better bunch of people than there are right here on this site.
hey my name is jayme tryin to put together new fishing club in somerset ky lake cumberland for small tournys or just good time if interested pm me
and keep on fishin
Maybe you are a little depressed? A lot of stress can do that to you. My prescription is to try to get a "slap in the face". Something that is shocking and forces you to get out of your rut and look at things around you differently. Many things can do this but the best way is to do something completely different than you're used to.
Best of luck,
Shore
Well boys after a very long break I'm back in action again for some fishing The fire inside has started to burn again and I'm ready to wet the line and haul some bass in. I've been gone from here a while Been doing some serious hunting and have really devoted myself to archery while I've been gone. I'm going to get the tackle bag and rods and reels dusted off as soon as hunting season is over I'm going to be fishing
It's good to be back I plan on surfing around the forums the next few days and seeing what's new
Welcome back.
The fire burns!
Glad you're back...
Welcome back.
Passion for something never burns out it only smolders for a while, then when it comes back, it comes back with vengeance.
Thanks guys. I'm ready to fish I know that. I spent all day today rabbit hunting tromping through briar patches in stuff so thick even the dogs was having a hard time getting through. While I was being ate up wading through the brush my thoughts was fishing is so much easier. Atleast it's less painfull geting my line out of a backlash than myself out of a wild rosebush with thorns that could stop a rhino
I haven't been through this with fishing, but went through it with my car, so know the feeling. When I had my apartment, I was known as the "guy who fixes cars" lol. They thought I was OCD because every time someone came out, I was out there with the hood popped, or working on friends cars. These days? I'm lucky to wash the car twice in the past year or so. So I can definitely relate. For no reason, working on the car just kind lost the "fun factor" and just became work... My fiance needs an oil change, and I keep putting it off, just like I keep putting off the stuff on my car. I don't enjoy it anymore, but still can't bring myself to pay a shop.
But glad to see you started back up!! Now post up those toads!!
Another idea might be try fishing some place new. I had really cut back on my local fishing a few years ago and decided to try a fishing trip to an entirely new part of the country. Lit them up and re-ignited the fire. Still don't catch much around home, but sure look forward to a couple trips a year to other areas. I also combine to interests by taking a travel rod with me on the Harley when I ride. When I take a break, I find a spot and just enjoy the moment as I throw a few. I hope at the very least you find a good stress reliever. That stuff will eat you up after while.
Years back i got "burnt out" on fishing and quit, kind of. I got deep into modifying cars and drag racing at the local track. That lasted a couple years until i just could not stay away from water anymore. I bought my first bass boat and got right back into it. There is NO bank access anywhere near me and i think that was what was getting to me. Once i got a boat and actually had access to water i was "hooked".
Don't hang it up.That's the way I was with deer hunting, quit in 2003 but I am going to go again this fall if my health permits.
I've been done since October but when spring comes around, I'm back! I'm sure when the sun starts shinning and the weather warms up a bit you'll get excited.
took a year off myself once and it did wonders for my passion for fishing..i really didnt think i missed it untill i started back and then i realized how much a part of my life fishing really is..just my 2 cents worth
When I find myself getting burnt out, I tend to switch gears. Grab a few cheap panfish rods, a bucket of worms and go out to relax, not fish. Or maybe grab some chicken livers and go for catfish at dusk. For a more extreme alternative, take a trip and do some offshore saltwater fishing for some monster fish.
Mix it up. Too many people are so bent on bass that they get burnt out on all fishing, when changing gears occasionally can help keep the passion alive.
Can't say I've been there but I know a lot of times, when I need to practice before a tourney, I just want to stay home instead of all the effort it takes to load the boat/gear drive to the lake, etc. But I force myself to go, and EVERYTIME, it never fails, that I'm glad I pushed myself and end up havin' a great time.
Glad you're back!
By the way, where in Ky are you located KyBass? Cedar Creek Lake in Stanford is sure to keep you comin' back for more.
This thread is two years old, too funny I took about ten years off from fishing and started back up last spring. Im way more serious now then I ever was before. I fished since I was a little kid but it was always for catfish, panfish, trout and every once in a while I would get lucky and catch a bass. Altho it is an expensive hobby at times, it takes away 90 percent of my stress when Im out on my boat catchin fish.

WOW, talk about follow through
I can certainly empathize with your love for archery,
in fact, deer with bow-&-arrow is one sport I'd consider reentering,
even at my brittle age.
Good luck fishing, and remember it doesn't have to be bass,
nearly every month of the year offers peak fishing for some species.

Its like Im reading about myself. I grew up on the water. But as my father passed away in my late teens I started to go less and less. Just one or two times a year. Not even once last year. But over this time I really got into hunting and archery. Took my biggest deer this season. And to me fishing never leaves. It is always there in the back of my mind waiting for the right time. And now the fire is burning hotter than ever. ;D
