Jeff
I'm already working out the logistics of this. Its an 8hr trip. I want to go again in 2012. If someone wants to share a room with us it would help out alot!!!
Will anyone be there on Saturday? I'm looking at going from Sat-Wed.
I'll go if you're buying Glenn
I have always wanted to make one of these. This looks like my chance since it is close. I can't be there the whole time but think I will try to get over there for one day or something. Would be nice to meet many of you in person.
HO! HO! HO!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I hope to see you at Guntersville.

:D
Would love to make this one, But thats the week we will be at Harrison Bay on Chickamauga. Hope one of the others works out for me.

Thanks for the warning!
(now it's official)
Hasn't Alabama had enough tornadoes? I feel sorry for the good southern folk of the area. For we are the sign of the coming apocalypse. Winds will howl snow will fall and floods will wash out the crops. Now if these things don't come to pass we must check our roster of attendees and ban who didn't make it this year for he is the responsable party. I'm looking at you long Mike!
What Long Mike said goes for me. I'll be there if at all possible.
"bout time. I've been watching for this announcement for a couple of months.
I'll probably be there as long as the warden lets me out again this year. I've been good, so she should (I hope). I'll probably be looking for someone to jump in my truck and share the expenses too. (Lund Explorer, Otey, Uncle Leo, or anyone else interested that doesn't have a peanut sized bladder may apply). It's about 10 hours from my house.
I'm going to be there if I don't have any guiding jobs. I can't afford to make reservations and then cancel them so I'll need to find a campground close by.
I am going to try to make it to this event, how’s the fishing arragement made? For someone who doesn’t own a Bass boat, do we just pair up with someone or rent?

Lee, historically we have always had more empty boat seats than butts to put in them. Don't worry about not having a boat. We try to move the non-boaters around so that they have a chance to fish with as many people as possible. Among other things, we use the Registration form to determine who has seats available and who needs them.
Wow, I could hit the Stroker rally at Nickajack and then an hour away be with the BR crew on Guntersville. Awesome!!! I'll make this one if at all possible!!!
12 hour drive, plus hotel, plus food... We shall see how my income fares.

I'm retired. It's a twelve hour drive, plus round-trip fuel for my Suburban, plus fuel for the boat, plus hotel, plus food, plus the booze, plus the dancing girls. I will take out a second-mortgage on my house before I have to miss this trip. The annual BR trip Rocks!

I don't think a few boxes of wine will make much of a dent in your savings but the heart medicine for when the dancing girls arrive will be the killer for you old friend.

The State park is about ten minutes away from Val Monte and by then they'll be open for camper here's there number 256-571-5455 if you can't get them pm me i'll help anyway I can
Ooooh the temptation! I need to sit down and take a long hard look at what jobs I've got booked and what bids are out for that time of the year.
I want to go catch me a few Guntersville bass.....

I've got ten gallons of homemade strawberry wine and two gallons of white whiskey i'll donate to the BR bunch that'll help with the expenses
Got a few scheduling conflicts to work out, but I'm going to try.
As far as cost goes, does anybody want to match what it would cost me to leave the War Dept home this year? The old girl doesn't have many vacation days left for her year(Sep - Aug) which is going to be issue #1. On top of that, you guys already know she outfished me last year hawg wise, so you can try to match the ration of **** I'll get for leaving her at home!
Try to bring a friend or hook up with another member
in your area so you can split some costs. Overall,
four or five days of fishing shouldn't be more than
$600-$700 or so.
Shared lodging $50/day X 5 = $250
Alabama fishing license $46
Food $20 X 5 $100
Gas (?) $100
Minimum cost ~$500
Poor Long Mike, crying poverty. He's got an alarm system on his boat that makes Fort Knox green with ***.
Heck, it probably cost more than it would to replace his "tin can". Alas, love has no price tag. Nothing is too good for his "baby".
I saw it new at Pickwick and then last year at ky lake and I must say he needs a new alarm system! Somebody must have taken a bat to that thing lol! My pops and I are already checking out lodging in the area. Chances are we will stay at the place listed here but we might try to save a few books.
BTW CWB maybe we can caravan together again

Gotta get permission from the boss first. We're going to Arizona in March to watch my son pitch for his college team so if there is any $$ left, I'll be there. Is your Bro-in law coming? I think I might need to bring my boat this time.
(nothing to do with fishing with Mike).
Could meet up with Scrutch too.
Looking at about $600 in gas round trip for me.I definitely need a riding partner to split the gas.
Well, I'm commited. I took the time off work. If nothing major happens (I pray Not) I'll be there with the girlfriend this year.
I want to offer a public "Thank You!" to Zip Pow for doing much of the leg work in selecting our Guntersville headquarters for 2012. Brandon, your assistance was invaluable.

might as well just fly there, if you are going to pay that much for gas... just curious, what car do you drive? Hummer?
GMC Sierra and a Honda Civic. Hard to tow the boat with the Civic. Tough to check it as luggage either, LOL.
I can't wait for it i'll be glad to meet everyone in person sounds like we'll have a real good time. Just glad I could help .

Graduation early and road trip close to my birthday ooohhhh yeaaa
The old man is wanting to spend a day or two at Pickwick below the Wilson dam. Then after having some smallmouth fun head over to guntersville for some lg mouths.
I'm in for this trip, gonna bring a Navy buddy of mine- Mike. If this trip is half as fun as KY Lake was last year, we're in for a great week! Oh, before I forget, bring your BAMA-RIGS!
Hey Mr. Swabby!
Give me a call when you can get away for a day.

I would like to make this also, need a seat and maybe a driving partner, we will see. MNGEORGE where are you?

The campground at Guntersville Park where we stayed last time was awesome and inexpensive. Speedbead & I stayed there in the Bassbus. Check it out.
Ronnie
Just clicked on the site in Glenn's first post. That site has been disabled. ?????????
Been there before, but just checked because one of my buddies who might make go ran into the problem.
Had the same problem rhino.
I just called and talked to them. They're revising their website, so they took it down temporarily. Their FaceBook page is still active, however, and contains pictures of their facilities.

I will probably stay at the campground as well.
I'm proud to announce that 00 mod is the first person to submit his Registration Form. Attaboy, Jeff!
Alright! I was also the first to post here.....can anyone else tell I am PUMPED about this trip!
Jeff
I would love to go to one of these. 12 hour drive from Michigan, but this would be more than worth it. Also, for you guys that will be driving, check this out: http://www.gasbuddy....Calculator.aspx
Just entered in my info, $167.11 round trip. Not bad at all.

Non-Boater?
I didn't need gasbuddy. For me the trip would total 767 miles one way. Towing the boat gets me an average of 14 mpg at best. That's a minimum of 110 gallons for me round trip, and I don't think I'll find any stations selling fuel at $1.52 per/gallon.
Regardless the cost of gas, the chance to meet these guys is worth it.
Ya I don't have a boat, but I would be willing to chip in to anybody offering a seat on a boat, since not only a truck but a truck with a boat, doesn't get amazing gas mileage.
We'll be there, for another installment of the infamous Saturday Night Wine & Cheese Soiree.
Everybody's invited. When the time gets closer, please PM me and let me know if you plan to be there Saturday evening.

Have there been any rumors of an Ike or Hank Parker appearance?
I want to go, but i'm just not sure if I will be able to. I won't commit yet because last time I did that I let a good person down because my orders for recruiting duty came through last minute and i didnt know that i had to report until last minute. What will be the drop dead date for this.
Jeremy, there really is no drop dead date. The problem is that the hotel will release the block we have on the rooms thirty days before the event.
Thanks Long Mike, I will discuss this with my wife. I know that no orders will come up this year as I have just came back to Camp Lejeune. Hopefully I can talk my wife into this trip for our anniversary.
Just sent my Reg form to long mike, see you there !
Hey Steezy, you can kill two birds with one stone. Attend the road trip and scout for an ideal place to put a dock.

Hey folks, it's time to crap or get off the pot. It's early yet, but I have received very few (read four (4) here) Registration Forms.

If mine was not one of those four, it must have been held up in the Christmas mail. It was sent on the 17th.
Tom, you are one of the four. Thanks.
If anyone is going from around Tuscaloosa, al area shoot me a message
Might just see if I can swing some time off the rig for this. Oil field changes too much to be able to plan this far in advance though. Got it on my calendar though.

Dutch oven? Isn't that a fart under a blanket?
Headed down to "G" in March and I can't afford 2 trips. Maybe next year.
Hoping I can make it, depending on the work schedule. I missed not bein there last year, its always a blast!
How 'bout the sarge?
Just got final approval from my wife. I'm in! Filling out the registration form right now! Today is a great day.
Hey Tom, not too sure bout Bryan. He's stationed up in Washington state now so I doubt he'll be makin the trip. I really hope my work schedule will allow me to make it up there. I'd really like to fish guntersville with all of ya'll.
Is their any planned events or just fishing everyday? I haven't made one yet, but hope to make this one.
FishinTN the only "planned" events will be in the evenings. At this point, the only planned event is a Wednesday evening group dinner. Most of us will get together in the early evenings to sip a few suds, brag, and tell lies. During the day we will all go our separate, merry ways. This is NOT a tournament. It's just a bunch of guys getting together from all over the U.S. at one of the best bass lakes in the country. I can say from experience that a good time is always had by all.
One of these years I plan to make it out and join you boys for this trip. Can't make any promises this far in advance but this may be the year.
Great!
Guntersville in late April can be THE BOMB!

Great to hear that you guys are planning on making the trip! I'm very much looking forward to putting names with faces. Don't forget guys, I need your Registration forms.
Props for Guntersville:

How many people are signed up at this time?
According to the report RW posted, if we all fish 10 hours a day for 7 days. Every other person should catch a 5+ lber!!!!!

I'm afraid you can take me off the list of possible attendees. While you good people will be fishing in AL, I will be getting ready for the openning weekend of trout/walleye season. By the time the road trip announced, I had already needed to make reservations for that trip. The very best I could do now would be to leave on a Saturday only to head back home on Wednesday morning. I just can't see driving for 27 hours so that I could fish for 24.
Perhaps next year's trip will fit into my schedule. An earlier announcement would help.
Has anybody made reservations yet? I've been trying to call the number in Glenn's first post, and all I get is a fast busy signal, and their website is still down.
I have made reservations. They are remodeling the place now!
Jeff
Does that mean they aren't taking reservations until the remodel is complete?
Maybe I'm gunshy but here's an experience from last summer. My wife and I had reservations booked at either an Econo Lodge or Days Inn in Kentucky. We were going to the NASCAR races at the speedway. The motel was at the next westbound exit about 14 miles from the speedway. We had confirmed reservations, and confirmation e mails. When we got there, we could not find the motel.
We started asking around and finally found out the place had been closed for a couple of months. Apparently the owner had some tax problems and the place had been shut down. This was a national chain, and we had booked it on the chain's website. No notification. No nothing. Even calls to the chain produced no info.
Our next thought was that someone had scammed us via our credit card. A call to the credit card company showed nothing amiss.
I don't know what is going on at Val Monte, but the non-answering of a phone, even by a recorded message has me wondering. I reported their website had been disabled in a post on Dec. 8. Glenn called and they told him they were revising their website and had taken it down temporarily. That was six weeks ago, and it's still down. Glenn said their facebook page was still active. I don't do facebook. One way or another, I'm still going to be there. This is one weird way of doing business on their part.
I called to make reservations some time earlier this month. I reached a person on the first call, whom took all of my info, including the bass rescource code for locked in rates, and took my cc for a hold. She said they would not charge anything to my card until the week before and would call to tell me how much the hold would be then. Does seem like something could be going on, but the lady was very nice and very helpful. She was the one who told me they are completely remodeling the place and assured me it would be up and ready by our trip!
Jeff
I've sent an e mail to them. Got the contact info from here. http://guntersvilleresort.com/index.htm
Apparently they have two websites. The odd thing is the one above tells you to contact their other website for more information.
I also tried the two toll free phone numbers above and got the same fast busy signal.
hmmmmm....maybe we can get Glenn or Long Mike to check in on them for us!
Jeff

I've tried several times to make a reservation and have been unable to do so. I'm not worried yet, but I will be soon.
I wasn't aware of the problem until today. Zip pow lives nearby. I'll ask him to make an on-site visit and find out what gives.
Zip pow just gave me a call. He's on it. Gawd, how I love the BR community!
Hi,
I just wanted to share with you an update regarding the Val Monte Resort, which you have targeted for your 2012 Roadtrip to Lake Guntersville.
I drove around the resort and marina yesterday afternoon just to scope it out first hand. The motel, the resort restaurant and the marina were all closed. I'd planned to talk to someone at the marina and get a sitrep regarding the renovation status but that was a no go. Everything looked in great shape and ready to roll but there must still be some inside work remaining before they're back up and going. The big "Top of the River" Restaurant next door to the motel was open.
I just spoke with one of the ladies at the Marshall County Convention & Visitors Bureau regarding the place. I told her the website was down and the listed phone # was no longer working. That surprised her so she checked for me and gave me the email address for the place: valmonte7001@gmail.com .
She did say that there was a big WalMart FLW Tournament scheduled to be held out of there in February so her understanding was that it would be all back up and going prior to that tournament next month. So that's some good news for everyone.
So I would think they'll be back up and going contact-wise real soon, and everyone here on the forums will be able to confirm plans for the April roadtrip.
However, there are other good places to stay, such as the Lake Guntersville State Park and the Best Western (straight across the lake from Val Monte), in case this might not work out but I'm sure it will with all they have planned for this Spring.
If I find out anything more I'll be sure and post it.
Best regards,
Jim
Thank you!
-Kent
OK, Zip Pow did his wonders again. If you need to make reservations call Veronica (she works at Val Monte) on her cell phone at 256-506-1854. If she doesn't answer leave a message. She promises to return all calls. Alternatively, log on to Facebook and look up Val Monte Lakeside Resort. Val Monte is in the middle of swapping out telephone providers. That's why their phone is out.
Just so you all know, I made hotel reservations today by calling the above posted number. No more excuses for youse guys.
Reservations made, form going in mail.
Boss approved a few days off for me that week! Now to see if I can shift a few other things to make this trip happen for me.
FishinTN, form received with thanks. PM sent.
Just for everyone's info the following is a list of confirmed attendees.
Glenn & Keri

Remember folks, we are now less than three months away from the outing. Let's get those reservations made and those Registration Forms submitted!
Waiting on a friend to commit one way or the other before I fill it out Mike. Mine will be in soon.
got the form filled out, finally.
But, I'm not sending it to you. :eyebrows: :eyebrows:
Boys and girls, a problem has developed that you all need to be made aware of. Val Monte Resort is being torn down to make room for condos. The rooms we reserved will soon be no more. We are scrambling feverishly to find suitable alternate accommodations for the same time frame, and should have things finalized within the next forty-eight hours. We will get back to you with the alternate as soon as it is finalized. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
I want to thank Fishing Rhino for bringing this matter to our attention.
Mike. There is no need for you, or anyone involved in the organizing, to apologize. It's whoever was responsible at Val Monte that needs to apologize. For whatever reason, they kept stringing you/us along. They accepted reservations. They misled your special agent a couple of weeks ago when they had to know what was going on.
What they have done is not very nice.
I have no doubt that all who attend will still have a great time. It's the group that makes the road trip special.
Very true Rhino, Val Monte should have stepped up and ATLEAST called you Long MIke to tell you to replan accommadations. Extremely poor handling on the part of Val Monte.
Returned your PM Long Mike.
Wow, that's some shady crap that they're pulling! But better to find out now rather than the first BR guy pulling up to a parking lot full of heavy equipment and cinder blocks.
I'm inching closer making this trip happen for me this year.
Folks, having been in an Executive Management position in my career I can speculate that Veronica (our Val Monte contact) was kept in the dark about a deal being made to raze the hotel and build condos. Think about it. If the deal didn't go through, the owner would have his rooms booked. If it did go through, and apparently it did, then Veronica was left out in the cold with the wolves howling, and the owner could care less. He just made a bundle of money.. Veronica was left to pick up the pieces. Again, I'm only speculating here, but that's what I would have done if I was the owner, but I would pay her a very handsome bonus.
Oh so true Mike. This puts a kink in things. Let me know once another place is located. I can always camp if I have too.
Well that stinks, but at least the trip WILL GO ON!!!
Jeff

Many, MANY thanks to Long Mike and Zip Pow for jumping on this and finding a new location within hours! Absolutely amazing guys! Be sure to thank them when you see them in person!
A1, well done!!!!! I knew you would do it.
Thanks guys for all the hard work. I'll bring atleast 1 beer for each of you. If you drink I'll have cool aid.

Can I get the beer that they don't want?
Wow, that was quick!
Cheers for Long Mike and Zip Pow. Great job guys!

Nobody gets my free beer. Nobody. I've got a knife and I will cut ya.
anyone have an open boat seat for the 22 and 23
I'm pretty sure there will be open seats for every day! At least I hope. Wasn't planning on bringing my little tinny!
Jeff
I'll have an open seat(s) for the duration. Check with Long Mike. He usually coordinates these things.
bflow_6, there are almost always open seats. We make every effort to ensure that the non-boaters can fish with as many boaters as possible.
What is the typical water clarity/visibility on Guntersville?
Almost gin clear but a lot of rain lately so it been well stained you can always find as clear water as you want to fish in there is several coves without feeder creeks you find them you've found clear water
I'm trying to put together the last few details...
For those of you committed so far, are you arriving on Saturday and fishing Sunday? Or are you arriving only Sun and fishing for the first time on Monday? I won't be able to stay all week so I'm looking to maximize my time.
I am arriving saturady morning, hopefully can find a seat to fish, and leaving friday afternoon, or when we get back to the ramp!
Jeff
I am arriving Saturday and leaving the following Friday.
Seats have never been an issue, but any non-boater planning
to fish Saturday or Sunday should make arrangements with a
boater before they arrive.
I am looking for a seat Saturday.
-Kent
My eta will be approx 2pm on saturday. I'm hoping earlier but I'm being realistic.
Thanks for the update. I'll ask again before we leave.
OK! Well then I need a seat for that Satuday as well.....any offers?
Jeff
I'm arriving on Friday, right around daybreak. and will have room for two other fishermen, as long as you are willing to pay attention and be careful. Two on the bow and one at the stern. I've got more than enough PFDs.
Had an incident last year fishing three on the boat at Kentucky Lake.
The fellow on the stern was stripping some line off the real to clear a backlash. The wind grabbed it a billowed it into the air just as the other fisherman was casting. His bait grabbed the billowing line and it pulled the other fellows hook right into the bone of his thumb. Went to a clinic and they took an xray and sent us to the ER at a nearby hospital. They didn't want to mess with a hook that was so deep. There was no blame. The caster made no mistake. But for the billowing line, nothing would have happened.
The guy who made the cast was a wreck. The fellow with the hook in his thumb is a trooper who took it all in stride and was back to fishing the next day. It was memorable, but a memory I do not want to see reenacted.
Sorry folks, can't help. It's a twelve hour drive for me and I can't leave home until Saturday AM. Sunday is reserved for Ghoti and Mary, because they can stay only a short few days. For the rest of the duration of the trip I can fish with two non-boaters. One day is reserved for Glenn and Keri. They will let me know what day. I had such a blast with those two last year that I insist on doing it again this year. I laughed so hard I thought my face was going to crack.
RW, PM sent.
Hey rhino, how about Kent and I fish with you that first Saturday? It will solve both of our problems and the only worry we will have is being in the same boat with RW!!!
Jeff
I'll know what days I have a seat available closer to the trip may have room depends on if dad fishes that weekend or not every since I got deviorced he's been going at least one weekend day
My plans are to arrive Saturday and leave Saturday. Like Fishing Rhino, my 18 footer gets a little crowded with three, but I am more than willing to accept another fisherman.
I'll do my best to keep you dry.
Last year Steezy took a roller over the side and soaked his left shoulder. It was cold that day but he never complained.
Long Mike, I hope to get you some commitments within a week.

It's obvious that you guys don't know that RW has a major problem with flatulence.

Jeff
That's fine by me. We'll take turns at the controls. That'll take the pressure off me having to "guide".
OK well it looks like we will have no problems with seats for the first day.......other than RW's flatulence!
Jeff
It will have to be just you two on Saturday, I'm babysitting Long Mike.
Awww, thats so nice of you! Rhino and I will be just fine without you! LOL
Jeff
OK guys, I have a room reserved arriving on the 20th and departing on the 27th. Anyone wanting or needing to share a room for that period or any portion thereof, send me a p.m.
I know this is kinda late but, I think im coming the first w leeekend and I maybe coming as boater but not sure yet. Let me get things planned out but I may be able to drive someone down if needed im just leaving on Sunday. Also if there's a chance that someones got extra space in their room and doesn't mind another I don't mind spliting a room.
This looks like an awesome trip! If it wasn't nearly 5000 miles for me round trip I'd love to be there. Maybe next year I can make this my vacation. Have a great time fellas and best of luck with a bunch of PB's.
Hey that means you're closer than me!
You ARE driving, RIGHT Glenn? After all, it IS a Roadtrip!
Hey RW, there might be a way to bottle all that "bad air" and start your own catfish bait company. You could call it "Bad Air Baits"!
Rage Tail is already taken.
Ya.....no. We're flying in as we always do, although we have, in fact, checked driving routes and times. But 3-4 days driving each way for a total of 5,000-6,000 miles is a bit much.
Glenn,
What is your typical method for bringing your tackle. Do you ship it ahead, or check it, or what?
On 2/13/2012 at 11:12 AM, Glenn said:Hey that means you're closer than me!
I was about to say you're nuts to drive out a boat but then saw that you'll be flying. I imagine just about everyone there with a boat would love to have you and your better half aboard. Looking forward to seeing all the pics and reading the stories.
Norcalbasssin and scrutch. unless you are REAL picky about your rods and reels, there should be enough to go around. Hop on a plane and join us, Tell us ahead of time what lures you are comfortable using and we will make sure they are available, but be reasonable. Very few of us are rich.
A reminder to all. This is just a fishing trip, not a tournament.
I have indeed shipped everything - rods, reels, tackle, etc. - to the event and back. But that gets a little pricey even at ground rates. Last year we decided to forgo the shipping and borrowed gear other members graciously offered. We were never left wanting....except perhaps for a hook sharpener.
I've got plenty of combos on my boat, seven baitcasters and seven spinning. The baitcasters are four Extremes, two Nitros, and one lightweight BPS baitcast combo. I rarely use the baitcasters. Also have a variety of spinning combos, all with Shimano Saros spinning reels.
On 2/13/2012 at 1:17 PM, Glenn said:We were never left wanting....except perhaps for a hook sharpener.
Hey! I resemble that remark.
I have more combos than I will use, being a non boater. I will bring about 11-12 combos and only take a couple each day as to not clutter up someone else's boat!
Jeff
Hmm...
If it's just about gear, we have it covered...Promise!

RW is a gear junkie! I have seen so many different combos this guy has, it almost beat out BassPro!
Jeff
I was asking because I'm planning a family trip to Orlando after the Roadtrip. We will be flying and wanted to get some cheap advice from a guy I KNEW had experience in that subject.
As for the Roadtrip, I'm committed already, just haven't filled out Long Mike's Registration sheet yet (waiting on a buddy to decide one way or the other). My tackle is coming free of charge behind my truck in my boat. I to would be happy to lend some gear to someone who might need something.
I'm REALLY looking forward to this spring!!!
No problem. If you want some tips for packing your gear for shipping, just PM me. I built my own rod container on the cheap, and it worked perfectly for 6 trips, and it's still in excellent shape.
Hey scrutch, go ahead and send your form in. I will need a separate form from your buddy. It's important that I have a signed Release of Liability from all attendees.
Ok Mike, I'm not sure yet about needing a roomie, or if I'll have room in my boat though. I guess I can pm you with any updates.

I have a place on the Harris Chain of Lakes==about 45minutes from Orlando. When will you be there and are you planning to do any fishing?

I'll be driving in from the Harris Chain in Florida if anyone is coming from that direction and needs a ride.

Looking forward to seeing you at Gunnersville.
Hey Glenn, Gene, I've never been to a BR Road trip so I'm not sure how the boater/non boater thing works. Count me in as a boater. I can take 3 guys (plus myself) out comfortably in my boat if needed. probably won't stay the night but I'll be there atleast one day for sure.

The boater/non boater thing happens because I make it my responsibility to ensure that all boaters are paired up with non boaters every day. The Registration Form provides me with valuable information on the number of empty seats available and the butts that need to fill them. Also, it provides me with information on who needs roommates. Those are just a couple of reasons why I'm such an a-hole about you folks sending the forms in. I need them to do my job for the benefit of all of you.

OK, I'm pretty much in for this trip. The only thing that will stop me is if I get a full week of guide trips that week. That rarely happens, but if it does I'm out.
I'll be bringing my boat and will have an open seat on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
I'm staying in the campgrounds over at the state park but will be hanging out at the Hampton each night till they kick me out.

I'm staying at the Guntersville State Park campgrounds. Just know that many of the sites are being rebuilt after the tornadoes of last year so they are somewhat limited. Call and reserve your spot quickly.

Man, that should be plenty. I was just thinking of bringing a couple quarts. Between you and me that ought to be enough to pass around and give everyone a taste of some different brews.
Alright, I'll be arriving on the 20th possibly around 7pm (or 12pm depending if I want to split the drive into two days), and staying till the 27th. Mike, you should be getting my registration soon, put it in the mail the other day. Only thing left now is to get a rent-a-car because I do not trust my car's trans on a 1,400 mile trip!
Scorcher, welcome aboard! By the time of the trip you should have been able to dig yourself out of all the snow you are currently buried in.

Actually, We haven't gotten any substantial snow yet In southeast Michigan, The up and eastern have been getting a lot though. biggest snowfall was about 4 inches and nothing has come close yet. Were supposed to get 5-7inches earlier this week but nothin. Sort of dissapointed in this winter. Everything just looks soggy and like crap.
Scorcher-
I see you list Lake St. Clair as your favorite lake. I have heard the smallmouth fishing is pretty good there. I will be at the RT on gunnersville in april maybe we talk about a trip there later in the spring if you are interested.
Ya dude, That would be sweet! I live on the North channel which is one of a few that branches of the St. Clair river that connects lake Huron to St. Clair. Moved there two years ago. To be honest I haven't fished as well as I should have. I only have a pontoon boat with a 50hp motor so it's difficult to go very far, and having to pull up and drop the anchor continuously gets tiresome. I found a nice online map though and have jotted down a couple of spots i want to try this year.
Here is the map, it's pretty neat: http://marinecruiser.com/chart.html

Awesome! Ya, I'm rooming with Rhino.
Looking forward to the trip and some great fishing. I.ve just got resettled back in Illinois after living for a year in Alabama. I lived in Tuscaloosa, and got to fish many of the rivers in the area, but never got up to gunnersville. Kyle and I will be there Headlights and all .
Headlights? Don't tell me you put headlights on that beauty you brought to KY last year. We've got to do it together at least one day. How's Kyle doing? The last post I saw from him was about some ailment that was plaguing him.
Got my calendar set and i don't have anything going on that week. Not sure how many days I will be there or when yet but it looks like I might be there the whole week.
Cool Randall, Are you bringing a boat?
As of right now I probably will not bring the boat. I have had several generous offers offering me a ride and a seat to fish out of so I will probably take them up on it.
Awesome Randall! Looking forward to seeing you again!
So I just talked to my fishing partner for a up coming local club tournament. He just got back from working the Anglers Choice Classic at Guntersville. It took a one day, 5 fish weight of over 36lbs to win it!!!!!!
GREAT ODIN'S RAVEN!
OK guys. My wife informed me that she will not be travelling with me to visit our daughter in GA while I'm at Guntersville. I'll be heading down either Wednesday the 18th, or Thursday the 19th and returning on the weekend of the 28th. I'm planning of fishing through Friday, the 27th. Anyone interested in sharing the expenses for their portion of the trip is welcome to hitch a ride with me. I'll be travelling on I-95 south from RI to the Jersey Pike. At Newark, I take Rte 78 to I-81 south to I-40 west then I-75 south to Chatanooga and on to Guntersville.
Have room for a couple of fishermen and gear, stowed safely in the bed of the truck with a lockable cap. Anyone interested can send me a p.m. or an email through my profile. I will be towing my boat.
Well, I'm officially out. Kind of sucks too. I was looking forward to meeting you all. Next year, maybe.

I suspect Long Mike knew that. Our resident spelling teacher was referring to the way it was spelled beginning with a lower case "w", and without an h after was.
Obviously Dwight and I don't pay attention to ALL of the details!

Jeff we should have known Long Mike is pretty crafty.
"crafty" eh?
That would be one word for it.
Yep, Rhino was right on target. He who overlooks the little things dies - little by little.
Hey Mike,
Has the attendees list changed much? How about an updated list?
Anyone need a ride??
I'll be coming from northern Indiana leaving on Saturday the 21st. Going to take route 31 to Indianapolis then hit route 65 south almost the entire rest of the way. Planning on returning on Saturday the 28th.
So far I can comfortably fit two more people in my Yukon. I will be pulling my boat. If anyone wants to drive to my house and ride with us or meet up with us somewhere along the way, send me a pm. I think it will take around 100 gallons for the trip. The gas bill might actually be bearable split among four guys!
Scorcher214 has spoken for a seat in my truck. Still have room for one or two more. One more makes the gas bill split four ways!
It looks like he will need a bed for Friday night the 27th if anyone has a single for that night.
OK, here's the latest list of attendees.

To Triton-Mike, Raider Nation Fisher, Zip-Pow and Chris at Tech. I have not received your registration forms. I NEED THEM. I will be sending each of you a reminder PM this evening.
If any of you have a bass boat, but were not planning on bringing it, I urge you to reconsider. At this point, most of the boaters will have two co-anglers on board. I'm not talking about small jon-type boats here, I'm talking about boats that can handle a lake the size of Guntersville.
Just a reminder for those who may be signing up late, the Registration Form has not been changed from the old Val Monte address to the new Hampton Inn address. Go to Glenn's first post on this the thread for the correct information.
Long Mike,
Thank you sir, you are a gentleman!
This is shaping up to be a great event! Can't wait to see y'all there!
Looks like we are going to have quite a crew!
Ok guys my old man has pulled out of the trip on me. So I'm now looking at needing a roommate now. Scrutch I may take you upon your offer. I'm in southern il and might be able to meet you somewhere. Mike you know my 17ft tracker with. 60 hp. It's not the best in big water but as long as it doesn't blow it's fine. How bad are we on boats?
Simp, at this time, if we assume that each boater will fish with only one co-angler, then four people will be left standing on the bank. However, there are those of us who can easily fish with two co-anglers, so I think we will be OK. That said, it would be nice to have another couple of boats.
BTW, I fished G'ville out of the same boat you have on the Road Trip several years ago. It was so windy that my trolling motor couldn't keep us on station. Other than that, no problems. The great thing about this lake is that there are at least twenty-five boat launches within twenty miles of our hotel. There are plenty of places for those with smaller boats to fish without having to get out on the main lake at all.
Also, I added your name to the list. Please send me your Registration form.
can someone please tell me how to post pictures on here. i've been tryning for like an hour and dont know how.
here's how:

I'll probably have room for you Simp. Right now I have two riders, with room for one more comfortably, three more if needed. I was planning on taking out the back seats of my Yukon XL and riding four, but if needed I can leave them in and fit two extra guys pretty easily. One way or the other I'lll probably have room. I have more seats than friends! . Sounds like your boat would come in handy this year. Let me know.

Agreed it looks like it be best if I can bring my boat. I'll have to see how my finances shape up before I decide I guess. I'll try to keep everybody appraised.
G-ville experts -- any guesses as to what we can expect regarding how thick/tall the grass will be, as well as "normal" water clarity at the time of the road trip? Doing a bit of an inventory now and I wanted to make sure my line selection will be appropriate.

I'll have some stuff with me for some jigs if anyone would be interested. I could make some up while we hang out and shoot the breeze. If anyone wants me to bring them anything please let me know about a week ahead of time. I'll bring it down with me.

do you have any jigs with a Wide Gap cutting point hook?
Waterfront grocery and tackle . On hwy 72 between gville and scottsboro kellers tackle on 431 between gville and newhope theres one on hwy 69 beside gville boat mart but dont remember the name . Some grass will be thick but not topped out primrose is up and thick to scattered and ell grass is subsurface .deeper grass is patchy
On 3/23/2012 at 2:29 AM, scrutch said:do you have any jigs with a Wide Gap cutting point hook?
I do not. I can not find any owner jig hooks any wider then the XXX strong ones I have. They do make one but its pretty much the same hook just a little thinner wire. I wish they did make a hook like mustads widegap.
Zip Pow, during the time of year we will be there what is the "normal" fishing style that most use? Will we mostly be fishing weeds? Docks? Creeks? Its getting close so I'd like to start forming some type of game plan.
There bedding now so i figure that secondary points and inside and outside grass lines you should be able to catch them anywhere. Shad will be spawning on docks so pick your poison. If you like flipping docks it should be magical

Anyone driving down the RT. 95 corridor around D.C. that would like a ride, or to meet up for a caravan. I'll be taking RT. 66 out of the D.C. metro area to RT. 81 south.
Also, you could overnight here for FREE ! I have two room available that can sleep two each, and I have a rec room with a hard floor for the more adventurous of you.
PM me if your interested.
Question: Is there a schedule of events, or whenever? Or is this a very loose week where you basically do your own thing?
I've never been on a BR road trip.
We are going to have a sit-down dinner on Wednesday night and a barbecue burger night, probably on Monday night. Also, Ghoti and Mary will be hosting a wine/cheese and sandwich soirée on either Saturday or Sunday night. I can't remember for sure, and I'm too lazy to scroll back through all the pages of this thread to find out which day it is going to be. Gary, how about chiming in here. The rest of the evenings you are on your own, but most of will gather in the lobby or one of the meeting rooms to sip a few suds and tell lies before breaking up for dinner.
As for the days of fishing, everyone goes their own way, the boaters paired with co-anglers. The only competition will be biggest bass. Glenn or Keri will fill you in on the details.

Not that many for me. I'm down to 21 or 22 before I head down the highway. My reservations start Friday night, but wih our daughter living less than two hours from where we'll be staying, I could leave here as early as Tuesday. If I do the Bonzai Run (17 - 18 hours), I'll be at her home by nine o'clock that night. If I do, I might fish Weiss Lake which is less than an hour away for a couple of days.
Fuel will be the biggest travelling expense for me. Most of it will be the round trip between here and there. At the current prices, I'm guesstimating 800 bucks for the truck's fuel. May as well fish 8 - 10 days if possible. That works out to about a hundred dollars per day of fishing. Five days of fishing would be 160 dollars per day of fishing. That doesn't include fuel for the boat or the truck, but that should be tolerable. I'm not the buzz here and there type of fisherman. I like to launch at the area we plan to fish for the day. Retirement is great.

There are plenty of good topo maps. The best is the Navionics Map. It comes in three separate maps and has great detail. The other good one is the Atlantic Map. It is less expensive. I use both.
CHIME!!
OK, it's now close enough for me to try to get a headcount for the Saturday Night Wine & Cheese Soiree, which, despite Long Mike's confusion, will be Saturday evening.
Let me know if you will be there so I can ensure that I bring enough chow. One year I ran a little short, and last year I had way too much. I would like to plan it better, so PM me if you will be there. All are welcome; the more the merrier.
I will set up a sandwich bar, condiments, salads, veggies & dip, fruits, chips, etc. And a selection of wines and cheeses. I will have some beer and soda, but probably not enough for 20 people. Once I get the perishables in the coolers I'll fit in the soda and beer. Won't be that much room left. Bring your own beer, or whatever you choose to drink.

Where are you getting the Navionics maps?
I'm downloading USGS topo from 1936 showing details before the lake was flooded; I'm also downloading topo's from 1984 time frame, it gives me a before and after view. But this is probably old school to most of you.
There is so much structure there I don't think my engine is going to have a chance to get hot.

I bought my Navionics Paper maps several years ago from Bass Pro but I don't think they sell them anymore. You can find a few on line if you do a search for them.

If you don't know what a soiree is consider yourself disinvited. It's fancy talk for fancy people, understood by the elite of the world. Riff raff will only degrade the cameraderie of us beautiful people.

Get your license online. Print it out in the comfort of home. Print a couple of them and stow one in your wallet, and the other in your boat.

For the less refined of the attendees:
soi·ree
noun
an evening party or social gathering, especially one held for a particular purpose.

I'll be in the corner with the guy's with the mason jar's.
After receiving a couple of inquiries I realize that I did not mention dates.
My little get-together will be Saturday April 21. Sorry for any confusion.
Just for the record. it's pronounced swah-ray.
I originally planned to arrive in Guntersville Friday night. Plans have changed and I won't be there until sometime Saturday, Apr 21. It shouldn't take me long to get it all set up, so I'm shooting for a 7:00pm start time. Show up later if you're out fishing. As long as I know you're coming, I won't run out of chow.
Long Mike and Roadwarrior will be there, so I make no promises about not running out of wine.
Do they allow any hard stuff in Gunthersville, if so I'll drop a bottle of JD on the table
If you noticed, I didn't say it would have anything left in it

I have five 1936 USGS maps showing the area with the proposed lake if anyone is interested. There on PDF format and would need to be emailed. They show the old river, roads, creeks, and so forth, but no depth or contour lines.

Autopilot. I'll be getting to our daughter's home in GA, and spending a night or two there. Her home is about two hours from Guntersville. I'll leave her house for Guntersville at around five in the morning, and be at Guntersville around six.
No, there is nothing wrong with my math. She lives on the western edge of the eastern time zone. Guntersville is in the central time zone. I'll leave her house at five eastern time, four central time.

Here's an update folks. It looks like we will be having the wine and cheese thing (soirée to you ignorant folks) on Saturday night, burgers on Tuesday night, the "banquet" on Wednesday night and Alpster's red beans and rice creation on Thursday night. Guys and girls, these meals are coming out of our own pockets, so we are asking that you donate five bucks a head for each meal. Any monies left over, if any, will be donated to the guy who busted his butt to host the meal. Where these events will take place are still undetermined - but will be. Zip Pow is on it.
Edit: While I was talking to Zip Pow this evening, our conversation was interrupted because he was on the lake fishing at the time. While we were talking his buddy caught a nice one and ZP had to tend the net to get it in the boat. He came back on the line to tell me that the fish weighed ONLY about five pounds. Gotta love it!

We sometimes forget that some people didn't catch there first over 5lbs until recently.
BTW folks as of right now I'm still looking for a roommate. Also any update on the boats situation? I haven't sent in my form yet because it looks like we need boaters now and it might be tough for me to be a boater this year. Trying my best to work it all out and get it budgeted.
Edit- I also just wanted to apologize to Long mike for not getting the form in sooner. I had it all planed out with the old man but like I said he pulled out at the last minute on me and left me scrambling.

At this point we have 11 people signed up for the fourth running of the SNW&CS. If you're going to be there Saturday, please come. All are welcome. The more the merrier. Just let me know before April 18.
I'll try to get started around 7:00pm. If you're going to be out on the water Saturday, show up whenever. Better late then never. If you will be there earlier, and want to give me a hand, that would be cool.
I've never asked for donations, and don't plan to this time either. However, if I have to pay for a room for the event I will ask to help offset that cost.
I'll be by myself this time. Our son is currently deployed to north goofystan, due north of BFE. He was supposed to be home in May, but now it looks like he will be back the weekend of the RoadTrip. Mary will be spending her time with him; not hanging out with a bunch of smelly old fishermen.
Sign me up for the wine party..lol! If you need some help with the wine let me know, I have connections!

About to put in my order to TW before the trip and was wondering if there are any necessary colors for Guntersville? Being a northern guy, most of my stuff is natural colors. I know most of you, but it looks like I get to meet some new friends too.
I'm ready.
Yo Gary,
I am bummed I can't be there as I have a mandatory stop on the way. I will be there mid-day on Monday and the party can really get started. Please have a voice recorder handy as there is usually some pretty good blackmail stuff that goes down at the Soire. Last year I started to re-tell a couple of Roadwarrior's stories later in the week and he started giving me these awesome Seihbert jigs to keep a lid on it. Something about what happens at Guntersville stays at Guntersville.

You left me off the list on purpose, didn't you?

A case of wishful thinking?
Check out the pics from our last roadtrip on Lake Guntersville!
Announcing the Big Fish Contest!
Everyone coming to the roadtrip will automatically be entered into the big fish contest. The winner will receive a special commemorative jacket and hat that looks like this:
We will have the hat there, but the jacket will be custom ordered for a perfect fit.
In addition, Siebert Outdoors is throwing in some custom made jigs to sweeten the deal!
Rules will be revealed at the Saturday night wine and cheese party. Those coming later may contact any of the mods or Keri and I for the rules.
Winner will be announced at Thursday night's dinner party.
Great pics Glenn. I didn't know that so many were taken. That's a reminder to all attendees of the next trip. Bring your cameras and remember to use them! I confess that I am often remiss when it comes to taking photos, but I promise to do better this next trip. Let's all promise to do the same. Our last road trip to Kentucky Lake had so few photos taken that it was impossible to put together a montage of the trip. so, no montage, and no "official" pictorial record of our trip. Let's not let that happen again. Ready, set, Action!
Ill be there for the sworay, swarey, soreh thing as well.
Good thing you weren't there for the first year. A few guys thought it was the "Sore, eh?", which had a completely different outcome!

Ghoti, add one more for my buddy John. Total of three in my truck including Scorch and me. I see that John still hasn't gotten his registration form to Mike. Sorry Mike. I'll get him in a headlock this week.

And if I have to, I'll put Long Mike on the list. Even though he hasn't sent me a PM letting me know he would actually be there. After all the time he's spent hounding you guys for your registration forms, he can't find time to send me a PM? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!
Ghoti, I'm not sure what you are talking about. I did send you a PM advising that I would attend. In fact, you've already added my name to the list. Have you been taking your medication?

To everyone, be sure to take plenty of pictures!
I'll be arriving in Gville around 6am on Monday the 23rd, a day earlier than I originally planned. The back of the boat is open. If anyone wants to go on a boat ride with me please let me know. I'm not promising any fish. I'm going to spend most of the day finding a few patterns and burning gas. It should be fun.

Can't wait to see Flukie looking like a Yellow jacket!!!
I'll be arriving the afternoon of the 21st. I'll have my Ranger 185VS with me; I don't have a co-angler as yet. My boat has two pro-poles and one fishing seat; if anyone has a Ranger 2003 style fishing seat (hopefully gray) they don't use or want, bring it with you and maybe we can work a deal.
Thanks to "Siebert Outdoors" I now have a complete set of Guntersville Navionics maps, plus I downloaded some USGS maps of the area before the lake was made. So, for my half of each day I'll be fishing some preselected spots, the other half of the day it's up to my co-angler to pick. We'll flip to see who goes first.
Also, I don't have a room mate. Right now I believe I have a single with a king bed, don't know if we can change at this time or not. If you need to room mate with someone PM me and we'll see what we can work out.
Wow, Thats alot of folks attending. Its going to be a great trip!

How 'bout Sunday the 22nd?
Exciting news. I'm going to dragging a new girl to the road trip. She won't be making it to the soiree, or any of the evening gatherings. She's not much into the night life, preferring to rest and recharge for the next day's activities. Though she doesn't do much at night, she really comes to life during the day, and is up to extended periods with twosomes and threesomes.
Scroll down to check her out. Must be over 18.
Woooohoooo! She sure is pretty! Maybe I could have my way with her on the first Saturday!
Jeff
Crikey! she's a beauty!
Is she just a "Trophy Wife" or can she cook too?

That's quite a ride Tom! Knowing you, you made the deal of the century for her just like you did with your last boat (or should I say "your EX")! Can't wait to check her out in a couple weeks. Whaddya say we spend a day together on the water this trip?
Thats a very nice boat rhino !
Bad news guys, I switched jobs again, trying to find one where I don’t have to do any work buy still get paid a lot.
Looks like I cant make the roadtrip, too many commitments and not enough time.
Hope to see everyone next year.
Well Crap, Steezy! That is one great big bummer! Sorry you can't make it, but will hope to see you next year.

Sounds good to me as long as they don't need both of our rigs for the non-boaters. If I'm not mistaken, your entourage arrives on Saturday. What's your ETA? Scorcher is supposed to hook up with me for that day. Not as good a deal as the 7. It is a "leftover" 2011. The 7 was a leftover '09. Only three grand off the original sticker price, plus a thousand dollar BPS gift card. But, unlike the 7, it does not have any cosmetic blemishes.

That's a bummer. I thought you were going to be scoping out the shoreline properties for one with a dock, or one convenient for building a dock. Congrats on the new job. Good luck on finding one where you don't have to show up, let alone be expected to work. Only in America.

Next time I catch a notable stripe I'll change my avatar for awhile so we will all look like brothers!
Just a little update folks. The location of our Saturday night sworereray is yet to be determined. Our hamburger and red-beans-and-rice meals will take place a short walking distance from the hotel, down on the lake-side, weather permitting. If weather doesn't permit we will all be S.O.L. Our Wednesday evening dinner will be held in a private room at the Top O' the River restaurant, which is very close to our hotel. The Top O' the River is primarily a seafood restaurant, but other meal options are available. The average meal cost is between $11 and $15 and the cost is on you. You can visit the restaurant's web site at
http://www.topotheri...62ad45f2fb10cb6
All events will kick off at 6:00 P.M. If there is not an event planned for that day I beg that all boaters with room available for co-anglers, and all co-anglers who need a ride, to meet in the hotel lobby at 6:00 P.M. Boaters and co-anglers, please try to rotate as much as possible. The more people we meet, the more friends we make.
I have all of my days booked with a boater except for Tuesday. Anyone want to take me fishing? LOL

Mike, how are we doing boat wise?
Mike, How are we doing on rooms, also? If some needs to share a room in order to make the Road Trip I can change from a single room to a double if need be. Female roommates preferred
Rhino, based SOLELY upon the Registration Forms I have received, AND assuming that each boater will fish with only one co-angler, we will have ten seats available and ten people needing seats. The plus side is that a number of we boaters can fish with two co-anglers. What throws a monkey wrench into the works is that different boaters and co-anglers will be arriving and departing at various dates of the week. That's why every evening I will poll the members of the group. NO ONE will be left standing on the bank.
Traveler, I'm leaving it up to the members to post on this forum if they need a bed or have a bed, and then contact each other. If a member cannot find a bed, then they need to contact me via PM.

I'll never forget that fish. Your old man was whooping and hollering more than me. Your dad not only reminds me of Shelby Stanga, but also the alligator hunter who say choot 'em, choot 'em. What's interesting is that was my biggest fish of the KY trip, and a smallmouth was my biggest fish of the trip at Pickwick as well. Uncle Leo topped that smallmouth at Pickwick by a half pound,
It was Fred (Old Cranky) that hooked that SM. All I did was put him on the spot and lipped it.

Guntersville experts -- anyone care to take a stab at the "must have" tackle us non-locals should be sure to have with us for the road trip? I'll probably order a few odds n' ends from Tackle Warehouse so I was just wondering if there was anything specific I should add.
With the way the fish are acting here in ATL, it seems it's fishing 4-6 weeks ahead of the calendar so I'm not sure if that's also the case on the Big G or not.
same on gville. Jigs lizards shad colored cranks top waters .frogs they'll eat it all i like a black back silver spook. Eric,
I will be bringing decals, but we don't carry an inventory of apparel due to the many, many different flavors we offer as well as varying preferences of our members. Therefore, each item is custom made to order at an exceptionally low price. You may order apparel through here: http://www.companycasuals.com/bassresource/

Oddly, I dont fish alot of topwater. Most lakes around me all I catch are dinks when I fish top. I've got a ton of surface lures except frogs. I dont lose them much fishing them on braid. I'm not above scavaging through your tackle if your catching fish on something I dont have. You can do the same through my tackle.
BTW Ghoti, your not right.

Can I borrow your Popeil Pocket Fisherman?
GMAN,
Don't buy any frogs until after the trip. I have a nice variety of Snag Proof I would like you to try.
If all goes according to plan, one week from now I should be in Southern TN on I-75, not far from GA. Possibly in northern GA. Should arrive at my daughter's home no later than 9:00 p.m. Will crash 'til who knows when. On Wed, I'll likely run over to Gville to finish breaking in the motor and for some fishing, then back to her home. On Thursday, more fishing. Return to Gville early Friday morning and remain there for a week.
Got the Humminbird 898 installed and running Everything passed on the self test. I'm really getting stoked now. One body to complete for a customer. Will take two half days on Thursday and Friday. Mow the lawn. Take care of the few things my wife wants me to get done before I leave, and I'm a free man for the next ten or eleven days. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new ones.
For those of you casting aspersions upon me, I would caution you - BEWARE OF THE FORCE. Yoda will be riding along underneath one of my hatch covers.
OK, folks, here’s the schedule for the Road Trip.
Saturday, Apr21. Ghoti’s wine, cheese and sandwich soiree. If you can, arrive around 18:00 to help set-up and get a first shot at the wine and fixins. The formal event starts at 19:00. Tuxedos, or tank-tops and jean cut-offs, or anything in between, are required. The location is yet to be determined, but will in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. This year, a Biggest Bass contest will be announced by Keri and Glenn, and the rules will be explained on that evening. There is a possibility that Ghoti may be required to rent a meeting room. If so, contributions will be solicited for the room only. Ghoti insists on footing the bill for everything else.
Sunday. Boaters and co-anglers meet in the lobby of the hotel at 18:00 to get paired up. Dinner is on you.
Monday. RW will prepare his world-renowned burgers for the group. The location is a short walk down the hill from the hotel at the picnic grounds. Dinner is at 19:00, but RW will need volunteers at around 18:00 to help set up, chop, carve, etc. We are requesting a donation of $5.00 a head to help offset RW’s costs.
Tuesday. Same as Sunday.
Wednesday. The BIG night. Arrive at 18:00. Dinner will be held in a private room at the Top ‘O The River restaurant, just a few minutes drive from the hotel. The address is 7004 Val Monte Drive. It is adjacent to our original location, which I’ve heard has now been razed. On arrival at the restaurant, you will need to announce that you are with the BassResource group. Glenn, and all of the attending Moderators and Road Trip Coordinators will each give speeches guaranteed to last no more than one hour. On the other hand, we may have a special guest or two. You never know.
BTW, dinner is on you.
Thursday. Alpster will be serving his, also world-renowned, Cajun jambalaya to the group. It will also be served at the picnic grounds. As usual, helpers needed at 18:00, dinner served at 19:00. Once again, we will pass the hat, asking for a $5.00 contribution. The highlight of the evening will be the award for the Biggest Bass.
Friday. That’s it folks. Most of us are headed for the house.

The names in bold belong to the folks who have let me know they will be at the SNW&CS. Alpster has told me he will not be there. That leaves five of you undecided. Let me know please. I want to make sure I bring enough chow for everybody. Last year I brought way too much. No problem; we had a cabin with a frig. This year I have room without a frig, so any excess grub will probably have to go in the trash. Don't really want to do that if I can avoid it.
Thanks,
GK
GK,
My brother John and I will not be there until Sunday, so unfortunately we'll miss the event Saturday night. Looking forward to a few days of great fishing!
Jeff
OK Mr Swabby, I'll see you Sunday. I had John down as attending. I think Scrutch indicated a John was traveling with him, so I put your brother down by mistake.
Scrutch, let me know if that was you who said that.
Or, will whoever said that, please let me know.

Don't buy any frogs until after the trip. I have a nice variety of Snag Proof I would like you to try.
Thank you Kent. I've been wanting to try some of their frogs out but wanted to see some of them first. Field testing will be even better.
Mike, I've also got a double-handful of the Snag Proofs that need testing.
Thanks Mike!
Hey Friends and Family, I was all excited about making my 4th Roadtrip in a row and seeing all of you again... but I got a call last night that changed all of that ;( One of our ProStaff had previously scheduled a show with me here in Tx. and had to move it to our Roadtrip date.
I sincerely wish that this wouldn't have happened because I have much more fun hanging with you guys, fishin, B.S'n etc. And believe it or not, the shoots are work and pressure to get things done whereas kicking back with all of you is FUN, Relaxing and a big break from the grind...
During last years get together, I remembered finishing up a day of fishing with Roadwarrior and Steezy in my boat when we met Scrutch and his fishing partner on the water. Although we three were having a blast and still telling WILD tales etc., I was wishing Scrutch and Co could fish with us too... Heck I would've just jumped in their boat to ride back to the ramp if I could've, just to HANG, maybe drink a cool one, talk a little SMACK back and forth if you know what I mean ; )
All this to say, I enjoy being with ALL of you more than you know and to me the Roadtrip is our Family Reunion. Please accept my apology and I promise to have a few treats like some packages of my new color Craws waiting for you there and maybe a RT Hat for each you as well... Now the hats might be slightly USED, lol.
RW, I'm having the baits sent to you... So don't use'em all up before you get there And Long Mike and you other OLD FOGIES... %&@~ like this aint suppose to happen, we were gonna kick back and have a few adult beverages together! Sall right, we'll do it again...
www.ragetail.com
Dang....that sucks. Was looking forward to meeting the Master of the Rage!
Well CRUD! Steve, very sorry to hear that you can't make it. I was very much looking forward to seeing you again and sharing a few beverages.
My how things change! It's a real bummer that ya cant make it Big O. Was hoping to get a little right seat time with ya. We promise to still have a blast though. I understand ya gotta work when there's work. We'll catch ya at Falcon next year! (AHEM, Glenn)
Things have changed for me too... My buddy who has been quasi-committed for months just got SLAPPED by the IRS with a $64,000 bill. Needless to say, He's out. So right now its just Scorcher and me.Hopefully Simp can make it too.

Well I've sent a boat load of PM since monday and I'm officially going now. So ANYBODY with open seats PM I'd love to fish with anybody and everybody. My best memories of these trips are always fishing with new and old friends. I can remember my first trip at the first KY lake trip. Ghotti and his wife sat me down and had breakfast with me. I really didn't know anybody on the board all that well yet. I just knew I loved reading and learning about fishing on here. So i just had to meet these guys. They made the effort to welcome me and told me about the amazing behind the scene job he did here at the time. I was amazed I hadn't even thought about the million little things that make this site amazing. So as new members join and old members look to reconnect this road trip is a opportunity for us all to relax and enjoy what we all love doing FISH!

Great special effects
Well Big-O, we're really going to miss you! It's really great to hang out with you and shoot the breeze. But work is work, and sometimes the work schedule doesn't work out the way we want (somehow that sentence makes sense).
We'll catch up with you next year. In the mean time, we'll tip one or two in your name!
You guys are AWESOME and don't think that I won't be callin to ck up on you while your there Gotta make sure that RW and a few of the others don't get out of hand, if you know what I mean
Dad-gum, I guess I'll have to take my camo shorts back to the store now.

Big-O, sorry to hear that you will not be there. I have a package for you. I'll put it in the mail soon.
Don't worry, Kent and I will properly dispose of your share of the wine.
I will have my camo shorts, so you will be represented.

A recent thread inspired me, if inspired is the correct term, to inventory my collection and determine which rods I really needed, and which were just gathering dust. I came up with a list to sell, and had started to post them in the Flea Market, when I had a thought.
I'm bringing one of these to the RoadTrip for Scrutch to take a look at.
I thought to myself, self, why not take them all to the Road Trip, see if anybody wants one, and save the shipping costs. Makes one cheaper to you. So, here's a list of what I'll be selling. If you want to look at one let me know and I'll bring it along for the ride. I've listed RoadTrip prices. When I put them on the Flea Market, prices will increase $20 - 25 to cover shipping and insurance costs.
SHIMANO CUMARA 6'8" M-XF casting; close to new condition, used very little. I don't like the small diameter grip or the reel seat. $100
DOBYNS CHAMPION 7'6" H-F casting ; good condition, c-rig, jig rod. Don't like it, the handle is too long for my taste. $80
ABU VERITAS 6'9" ML-MF; spinning rod, excellent condition, barely used. I don't like the reel seat. $60
DUCKETT MICRO 7'6" XH-F casting; excellent condition, swimbait rod, never used, plastic still on handle. Not sure why I bought it in the first place. $120
SETYR TACTICAL 6'6" M-Fcasting ; used, very good condition, similar to Avid 6'6" M-F. I like it, but seldom use it. $125
SETYR RESPONSE 7'6" M-M casting; used, very good condition, graphite crankbait rod. Haven't used this one for at least two years; maybe longer. $150
Ghoti, you might be starting a little swap meet on the side. Great idea! I'd love to do a little horse tradin at the Roadtrip.
Does anyone need a roommate? I do now that my buddy has bailed. I have a empty bed from Sat 21st to Sat 28th. If anyone is in a room alone and wants to cancel and double up with me let me know. I'm open for other arrangements too. I just don't want to room all week by myself.
ALSO...Long Mike, I have an open seat every day of the Roadtrip. It sounds like Simp might jump in for a couple days, but I'm open for all comers for the rest of the time. I'll let you know which days Simp wants.
It looks like my Sunday partner might have to bail out. If he does, I'll have Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday open. Hey Scrutch, if there are enough boats, I'll be glad to share the ride. One day on your boat, another day on mine. I know Simp wants to fish with me one day, but we haven't settled on a day. We can fish three out of mine with no problem.
Long Mike can sort it out when we all get there and have an idea of what's what.
Man, I'm so tempted to just say screw it and make the drive up. Only problem is my mother turns 60 on the 20th and we're planning a big surprise bash. Naturally we also picked up a good client for a job on the 24th. Hope you guys have a bunch of fun. I need to make it to a Roadtrip one of these days.
Looking forward to seeing some giant fish pics.
Scrutch, Rhino -- I'll be out there Sun - Weds (boatless) and I've only got a boater for Tues. Would love to share a boat with either of you guys on Sun, Mon or Weds if you've got any of those open.
I'm open for Wednesday, and possibly Sunday. If need be, we can fish three from my boat on Sunday.
Simp has me booked for Sunday for sure. How's Wed sound Chris? Rhino, what about Simp and I in your boat on Sunday (as long as everyone has a boat seat). I think it would be a great scouting run to get the week started off right! Ok with you Simp?
Haven't really planned who I'll be fishing with. I've only nailed down WMD for the 26th and 27th. So if anybody has open seats, I'll be honored to join ya.
EDIT:
Looking for a boat seat, Sunday 22nd, Monday 23rd, Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th.
Well, it's obvious that many or most of you guys are making your own boating arrangements ahead of time, and that's fine with me. It makes my job a lot easier. Regardless, I plan on polling the members every evening; but as of now, how many of you non-boaters do not have firm rides yet, and on what days? As of now, I have a seat available on Monday and Thursday. Boaters, watch the following replies, and take some folks out on the lake!
For those of you who have never fished with them, Glenn and Keri are an absolute blast. I fished with them last year, and we caught a lot of bass, but I couldn't have cared less. I laughed until I was blue in the face. I had this generation's version of Laurel and Hardy on the boat!
Keri and I are looking for open seats for Sunday and Monday. But note that if anyone needs to stay on shore, Keri and I will be the first to relinquish our seats! It's not open to debate.
The only days I have definitely booked are Saturday, Monday, and Thursday. Sunday is a definite maybe.
I have all of my days booked.....Long Mike, don't worry about me!!
Jeff
On 4/13/2012 at 10:09 AM, scrutch said:How's Wed sound Chris?
Let's do it!
I am still open Wed, Thurs and Fri morning.
NOTE TO GLENN & KERI:
If you don't find other arrangements, you will be fishing with Traveler2586 (Eric)
on Sunday and Fishing Rhino (Tom) on Monday. I will find someone willing to let
me fish "3rd Man" those days.
Kent, do you want to fish with me on Thursday?

I'm rolling through the general area on the 23, I might could squeeze a day to fish the 24th, I'll try to make it happen. Some of it is going to depend on travel schedule after getting some work done on the rig. Hopefully everything aligns and I can make it. Don't count on it, but I'd like to. I then need to forge on to another event.
Hooligan, do you work offshore or inland rigs? I grew up in the 'patch' and would love to swap war stories with you. Please try to make our event.
Oh no, Mike, by rig, I mean my vessel, my tournament rig. The only time I've spent around oil and gass has been clearing right of way and timber clearing in East TX.
To All Attendees!
We will be raffling off a few awesome items on Wednesday to benefit the Tackle The Storm Foundation. Once such item is a Strike King hat autographed by many of the top Elite pros such as Kevin VanDam and Denny Brauer.
Tackle The Storm helps children who are victims of tornadoes rebuild their lives. Through generous partnerships with the fishing industry, TTS can get a rod and reel into a child's hands for just $7.50. So each ticket will be exactly that.
Please come ready to support this worthy organization, and be ready to win some fantastic prizes!
Hey folks -
Due to the VERY generous offers from WMD in Kentucky and Long Mike, Keri and I not only have a boat, but can now offer a "backseat" for Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. Anyone looking for a ride those days, let me know!
Oh and if you're concerned about fishing 3 in a boat, don't worry. Not only are these boats big enough to hold 3, but Keri is a former WBT and current LBAA pro. You'll be fishing with one of the best in the country!
It's a shame im gonna miss you guys this year, unfortunitly, I have been called to duty and will be out of the country....hope you all have fun..
-Andrew
Glenn, any chance I can use the back seat on Tuesday?
It's your boat. Where every you want to sit is fine by me!
Hey Glenn, how about a back seat on Wednesday por moi?
Went fishing on Friday the 13th and got skunked, it was a bad day anyway with clear blue skies and not a cloud in sight.
This is what I found on Saturday morning.
I'm not panicking yet, I have four shops in my area, and we all know they're just setting around this time of year looking for work. Can anyone give me an estimate of cost for a gear housing seal job. If I can get this job done fast I know I'm going to get clipped.
But, come hell or high water, I'm going to G-ville Friday !
Oh no Eric.....that sucks! Hope you get it fixed right for cheap, but remember, you almost always get what you pay for!
Jeff
yikes, I wish you the best Eric.
My lower unit was 1200$ but my insurance payed for all but my 250$ deductible
That's a bummer. But, the silver lining of this dark cloud is that it could have started at Guntersville. You've got a few days to get it fixed.
There's never a good time for something like this to happen, but some times are worse than others.
I'm glad it did happen now rather than at G-ville. However, finding a Mercury service shop willing to stop what they're doing and take me could prove problematic.
During my years as a commercial lobsterman, service was always more important than price. I could have saved a buck here and there on my Loran units, Radar, VHF radio, sounders, etc. In the long run, paying a few bucks more for electronics and getting excellent service more than made up for the extra cost. When I had a problem, they'd tell me to bring the piece right in. They'd put it on the bench and I'd walk out with the repaired unit. If they had to make a "boat call", they'd usually have me up and running the next day. I may have paid hundreds more for the electronics, but the service I got made me thousands.
I do the same with my recreational stuff. I have BPS take care of my winterizing, and have them check the water pump at the end of each season when the winterize the boat. I have them change the fuel filters, grease all the fittings, and all other routine maintenance. If I have a problem, they tell me to bring it in right away. I've had nothing major but it's still nice to back it up to one of their service bays and have someone jump on it. The couple of times I've needed to have something checked, I've been on my way in less than an hour.
Dang....hope you get it taken care of without too much problem.

I agree, I believe you get what you pay for, and buying with service in mind. When I got my wife her new car I also got the full extended warranty; this car is full of electronics and electro mechanical systems, it's a hard top convertible; so far we've gone through three radio/navigation units with $0.00 cost to me.
Unfortunately or not, I decided to buy my Ranger used (as a learner) rather than paying the big bucks for a new boat. The down side is I don't have a dealer to return to for buyer service.
I'll see you guy's and gal's next weekend ! As some fisherman says "NEVER GIVE UP" it's G-ville or bust

Alright man, you're in!
I dodged a bullet today. Checking the trailer's (new) lug nuts and bearings to make sure they were greased, I found one of the grease caps was loose. Easily pulled it off by hand. Was about a quarter inch from being driven home to the ridge around the cap. Drove it home, and tried to pull it out by hand. No go. It is now secure. The bearings were greased, but it took about 15 pumps with a grease gun to force grease through the outer bearing.
There is no way the grease cap would have made the trip to GA, then 'bama. Most likely that would have left me on the side of the road with burned out bearings. Tomorrow, all the gear gets loaded in the boat. The truck gets loaded with luggage, tools, and miscellaneous gear and spare parts, just in case. First order of business on Thursday will be to finish the last two hours of break in on the motor. Then I can spend the rest of the day fishing. Friday, all day fishing.
Will see some of you on Saturday. Hopefully I'll have found something the like, and where they are lurking. Has the location of the W & C Soiree been determined? I'll be on the water with a couple of other members. Can be reached on my cell in case it's a last minute deal.
Rhino, Good catch!! Have a safe trip, and i'll meet you Saturday afternoon/evening.

I'm arriving some time Thursday before noon--if you need any help breaking in your motor.
Also will have open seat Thurs & Friday for fishing if anyone else is interested.
Gentlemen and ladies, I need a fishing partner on Monday, otherwise I will be fishing alone.
Looks like my itenirery is as follows, I think:
Sunday - Roadwarrier or Glenn?
Monday - 00 Mod
Tuesday - riskkid 2
Wednesday - Simp
Thursday - open
Friday - open
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

A lower unit reseal cost me $350 a year ago. Fishing line wrapped around the prop was the culprit!
I'm still looking for a roomie. Does anyone have a single room they might be willing to change to a double? I have a double room reserved but would rather not be stuck with the bill alone.
Maybe the Hampton would let you put a cot or an air mattress in a room with two beds. Why don't you check? Wouldn't bother me to have a third in the room, and Scorcher is riding with you so what's he going to say?
I'll say it sounds like a good deal. You'll have more money to buy more fishing tackle!
P.S.
Still looking for a seat sunday, monday, and tuesday.
P.S.S.
Anybody have a map of gville showing the depths and contours and what not?

I do but its on my depthfinder.

I have a set of Navionics for Lake G-ville, North, Central, & South. What part of the lake are you interested in?
I also have quite a few USGS e-maps of the south end, they're from 1936 showing the proposed lake; there are no contour lines, but they do show old roadbeds, rail lines, bridges, feeder streams, & original river channel. Then there are maps of the same areas showing more recent updates. The e-maps were free to download so I can pass them on for free too. I have 34 total of the e-maps, but I can boil that down to 14 useful sets, two each for seven sectors covering the south end; it would be faster to sneaker-net them at the hotel rather than emailing 14 maps if you can wait. With what I see on the USGS and Navionics maps, unless my co-anglers feel otherwise, I see no reason to leave the south end; so I could sell off the Navionics Central and North maps.

Somehow that just don't sound right.....
Okay, that fills me up for Wednesday. I nearly forgot Simp. Don't ask me how. He's not easy to forget. I'm about worn out getting everything together for a midnight blast off in about 29 hours.
Still have one seat for Tuesday. Nothing booked for Friday, so it's wide open for two, if need be.
Several have asked where the Saturday night wing-ding will be. I would prefer to have this inside. With an open food bar, I'd just as soon avoid the indigenous insect population, if possible. I will attempt to work out a deal with the Hampton. So far, sixteen people are on the list to attend.
If I can get an inside space for a reasonable cost, we will be inside. I'll make them an offer they can't refuse, and if they refuse it I will set up at the picnic area, weather permitting.
I plan to arrive late afternoon Saturday. If Long Mike gets me a phone list, I'll call everybody on my list to let you know where I will be.
See you all soon.

If you need a horse's head, I can probably work something out. I'll bring it with me if need be. I'll have to get a much bigger cooler to keep it well iced and fresh. I'll tell the check in associates that I'm leaving the cooler, and its contents, for you, and ask them to take care of it for safe keeping.

Well i was just looking for one to look at before I got there, do a little research. Do you know if there are any contour maps I could get online for free or even pay for?
You can try USGS @ http://www.usgs.gov/ and search on Guntersville Lake, AL, or just Guntersville, AL. I'd be more than happy to email you the historical maps I have.
I have searched for Topo Maps and Free Topo Maps using Bing; USGS is the best so far; beware of some of the sites - they're not what they advertise.
GOOD NEWS
Just got a call from Goose Bay Marina saying my boat is repaired and ready for pickup. Harolly Coombs and his technicians started on the boat within minutes of me parking it. I was shocked when I got the call
We (me, I) can relax, all the schedules are good.
Ghoti, I'll email you a list of attendees tomorrow. It will be an excel spreadsheet.
Hey rhino, how about you and me tuesday? Outta fish at least one day with my roomie eh?

That works. It'll probably be you, me, and Simp. I'm guessing you made out ok to get a cot or something for a third to sleep in the room? I'm guessing since you refer to me as roomie.
I am finishing up the new deck on my boat and I picked up my new motor this afternoon. I already have RW on Tuesday. The rest of the week I have an empty seat. She's not a $50,000 Bass Boat, but very comfy to fish from. Just in case there is a member who's in need of boat seat.

I didn't realize it until this post but Scorcher214 and Scrutch are visually similar.
I did check on a cot and might take you up on it if nobody contacts me wanting to room with me. I have until 6:00pm Friday to cancel with no charges. I hope to decide before that.

My wife says that a lot, and then starts fanning the air. I wonder if she's noticed that I have gas?
Here's my schedule for the week.
Sat. RW and I arrive in the PM and get in a couple of hours fishing before Ghoti's soirierier thing.
Sun. Ghoti and Riskkid
Mon. Scorcher214. Room for one more
Tue. Glenn and Keri. Another Hoot in the making.
Wed. Glenn and Keri take my boat. I'm with Zip Pow. Glenn and Keri have room for a third.
Thurs. RW. Room for one more.
Fri. Bye!
For those of you who will be fishing with me, be advised that I will have breakfast at about 7:00 and will be off the water no later than 5:00. I've got stuff to attend to every evening.
Keri and i are paired up with somebody every day except Monday, when "WMD in Kentucky" is loaning us his 250hp hydro blaster! We have room for one more if you want to join us!
Alpster, Are you going to be there sunday? If so, I still need a comfy seat to fish from.
Soirierier, soreh, sore rear, sworereray, swarey, sworay.....whatever we decide to call it, can't wait! 73 hours and counting till I hit the road.
No, I don't think he arrives until Tuesday.

I have two.
I'll guarantee it won't be anything near like we fished in at Pickwick two years ago. Steezy and I fished in the monsoon that shut down Nashville, and parts of I-40. Big O had two bilge pumps running in his boat and the water in the cockpit was above his ankles.

Yeah, but you will have 7' a lightning rod in your hand!
Big-O had fish swimming around in his boat that day. Some of us, deciding that excretion being the bitter part of valor, remained ashore.
We got "soaked" as well.
Pickwick, now that was an event. Torrential rain. Lightening all around. One of us, who has an aluminum boat, categorically refused to take his boat off the trailer, much to the dismay of his fishing partner. Kent will never forgive me for that.

He confirmed with me last night via PM before he hit the road. It's the 3 of us on Monday!
Surfing the net for lure recommendations that are working RIGHT NOW:
Spinnerbaits seem to be the talk.
The Rig, of course.
Soft plastics shallow, especially shakey heads.
Square biils and lipless cranks.
LOL Kent. I'm doing the same thing.
Most locations seem to be new grass too or shad spawn locations. Usually grass also in that lake from what I'm learning.
Just fished a tourny there, water was very clear 3-4 feet visibility in some areas, key in on new growth
I've seeing spinnerbaits, swimjigs, swimbaits, shallow cranks, jigs and plastics in 4-8 FOW as the hot patterns.
Hey RoadTripees!
I'm pleased to announce that reigning Bassmaster Classic Champion Chris Lane will be joining us at the Lake Guntersville RoadTrip!
Chris is known on the B.A.S.S. tour for his topwater style. He's been fishing professionally since 2000, and travels all over the United States competing in B.A.S.S. Elite Series events and B.A.S.S. opens as well as various other tournaments. In 2011 alone, Chris had three top 12 finishes in the BASSMaster Elite Series and finished 12th overall for the season, earning a ticket to the BassMaster Classic in Shreveport, LA in 2012. He also ranked 6th in the BASSMaster Southern Open.
Chris won the Bassmaster Classic earlier this year, and just placed 2nd in the Power Pole Slam Elite Series event on Lake Okeechobee.
Chris will be joining us for a meet-n-greet and giving a presentation during Wednesday night's banquet.
If you haven't signed up for the RoadTrip, you still have a few days left! Please see the RoadTrip thread for details. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

On a serious note I will have a couple rods for sale if anyone is interested. On is a Browning rod and one is a GLX MBR 843. If your interested hit me up down on the lake.
I would love to come down one day and fish. I can not afford to take off work more than one day. I only live about 2.5 hrs away and I have never fished guntersville. Any seat openings still available? Would only be able to stay and fish one day.

I have arrived in GA. Will be on the Gville tomorrow, bright and early.
Wow Tom, you're a machine.
I don't know how you like to fish but I'd check the channel ledges !!!!! I've been fishing mid lake on the backside of the river channel in the grass beds in 5-12 fow using topwaters ,swimbaits ,2.5 crankbaits . On the ledges dt10 cranked off into 25 fow and of coarse any multibait rig of your choice. On 4/19/2012 at 7:46 AM, Fishing Rhino said:I have arrived in GA. Just a thought, but, I have a Potato Cannon we might be able to modify to launch one of them there A-Rigs out aways to get some additional yardage
Does the A-Rig rotate when retrieved? When I was a teen we would troll with a three bait rig that we would adjust until the two outer baits rotated around the center bait, the Blue's seemed to love it if I recall.
IMHO, I like the One person, One rod, One reel, One line, One bait, One fish mentality. I'm not trying to feed a family, or build my biceps, I just want a little fun.

I actually have a 3 bait rig since the 5 bait Alabama rig is illegal in TN. I only recently got it and tried it out on the small lake behind my house. Caught a fish on the first cast, used it for 15 more minutes with no more action. It does not rotate. I plan on bringing it so we can play with it some on Tuesday and see what happens.....might even go to BPS tonight and pick up a real 5 bait AL rig.
I didn't review all 40 pages, so this announcement might be a repeat:
If you are interested in trying some Yo-Zuri #6 on your spinning tackle
and/or #12 or #15 on baitcasting gear, you are welcome to all you want!
I bought some "pounds" last fall and have too many "miles" to ever use.
You are welcome to spool up one reel or a dozen.
Thats pretty cool Kent. I wish I wouldnt have respooled my reels I'd like to try some of the 6lb. I'll see if I can find an extra spool for my spinning reel.
I also just checked the weather. They changed the forcast. Looks a little better then it did.
Mike, what spinning reel is it? I have some spare Shimano 2500 spools, already rigged up with hybrid 6#.
Jeff
Sustain 2500, 2 of them. I'm pretty sure I have a spool in the basement.

I start packing tonight. I'm so excited I can't stand it.
Made my last trip to BPS.....fishing Percy Priest Lake Sat til noon or so then down to the Big G for the soreee. Got all my gear together, with the Priest trip that increased my arsenal to 11 sticks....ridiculous when I figure to use no more than 4 or 5. Can't complain about the wife packing shoes for a trip anymore!! Got to pack up some threads to wear tomorrow and its off for 5 days of fishing bliss. Can't wait to see my old friends (been too long) and make some new ones.
Im all packed up, ran to dicks to get some more stoof and my pond to fish one more time. Tomorrow Im getting to bed early and walking up around 1am to leave and meet scrutch. Still looking for a seat sunday.
OK, folks, here’s the schedule.
Saturday, Apr 21. This year, a Biggest Bass contest will be announced and the rules will be explained on that evening.
Wednesday. The BIG night with Chris Lane! In addition to Chris Lane, there will be a raffle to benefit Tackle The Storm foundation.
I have everything sitting out ready to go as well! Looks like I am going to sneak out of town even earlier and get down Friday night! Then its off to fishing the Big G Saturday with Rhino! Only one short trip to Bass Pro to replace Rhino's transom saver that somebody needed more than he did, while he was finishing the break in of his motor today! I hate a thief worse than anything. Don't worry Rhino, I'm picking you up one before I leave town!
Jeff
Jeff, don't worry about picking up a transom saver. Rhino is getting the recurrent brain-fart syndrome. He'll find the transom saver in his truck tomorrow and not remember how it got there.
Have almost everything ready on the boat. Still need to pack the chorts n chirts Friday nite. I am definitely gonna miss my littlins. It's gonna be hard to be away from them an entire week...again. The wife and I just got back from our route 66 Roadtrip in Arizona and Las Vegas. I'm taking the iPad so I can FaceTime them. That will take the edge off. This Roadtrip is the last real "vacation" I'll get this year. I'm not counting Disneyworld in June as a real vacation. That's pure work with my crew.
Simp just called me and we did a little game planning. I got him in my boat on Sunday so lookout y'all, with Simp's guide services plotting the course, I think we just might take a real shot at that big bass contest!
See y'all Saturday!

The only place I didn't look is the glove compartment. If it's in there, I'm better than Houdini. It's the only, and the last time I did not lock up the tailgate on my cap. Yes, I did forget to secure it.

The brothers have arrived! Room 409 for all you groupies.
Plotting our big bass show this morning. Sounds like the name of the game is gonna be staying out of the 20-30 mph winds today. It shouldn't be hard though, there are mannnyy places to launch and fish in sheltered water. We will be looking for grass and shell beds and shad. Results to follow.
Overheard at breakfast...

Wish I was THERE !

Great catch RW!

Any better today??
I bet you're fishing the Everstart next week, aren't ya?
Things are heating up! Fishing is getting better each day. Look out RW! We will not go quietly into the night!
Met Chris Lane tonite. Really cool, down to earth guy. Most people who meet him probably have no idea how famous he really is. He's THAT down to earth.
Thanks a ton to Big O for all the cool stuff! Awesome! We're all missin ya man!
I won a rod in the Tackle the Storm raffle tonite. Lots of really cool prizes from really cool companies. Everyone NEEDS to check out TackletheStorm.org and DONATE! Get a rod and reel into the hands of a kid!
This Roadtrip is a blast!
I hope the fishing get's better. I caught my first spotted bass today which was pretty cool but, I need to catch a lot of good ones!
Glad to hear things are getting better. I thought it would start improving as that cold front moved through. I'll be at the Hampton tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get to meet some of you guys. Good luck!
I'm headed down in the morning, plans changed. I don't think I'll meet any of you guys, but if you see a Bright Red Triton 21 HP with 2 Power Poles on it, and a single knucklehead in the drivers seat, gimme a wave. I'm intending to fish for about 6 hours or so, should we make the rest of the trip. If not, I don't think I'll have time to fish Friday at all.
445 am sitting at hardees eating breakfast on the last day of my roadtrip. Gonna go out with a bang today. Stay tuned for details of our entire trip................

Alright, we are on our way to the Big G. Looking forward to some bass fishing!!!
Hey all,
I just got back from the roadtrip today and had a great time. Guntersville didn't quite show out the way we would have liked, but the company more than made up for that. "Should've been here last week....". Hehe...
For those of you out there, I only had a chance to say goodbye in person to a few of you since I had to leave right after getting off the water on Weds. I was so darn worn out on Tues evening at dinner that the thought never crossed my mind to say goodbye then! My apologies!
Glenn, Kerri, Fishing Rhino, and Scrutch -- it was an absolute pleasure sharing boats with all of you. Well, maybe not Gene, but the rest of you were great And for all the other folks I met but didn't have the opportunity to fish with, hopefully we can next year. To all the mods and zip pow (and anyone else I'm forgetting), thanks for your efforts in putting this thing together. Everything was great!
For any of you showing up in the next day or so, let me give you the top secret bait so you can stock up. But you gotta promise to keep it quiet, OK? Ready? Bubblegum pink horny toad on an Alabama rig. Throw it out there and hold on!
Me and Traveler hooked got on a school of white bass smacking the shad, Had about 30 between the two of us. They got a lot of fight! The one other guy fishing in the area got on his cell phone and pretty soon there were about 10 boats in the one area haha. No largemouth though. Really hope tomorrow I hook into some. Where can I find them?
OK guys, lay it on me -- how badly did everyone murder the fish today?
Zip POW and I caught 9 this morning. All keepers. Swimming anything white through 3 foot of water in the Lilly pads. Highlighted by a 3 1/4 lb spot on one of my homemade swim jigs. More thorough post and report when I am not on my phone and at a computer.

There will be a nice writeup when all of my pictures arrive and I can get everything uploaded and ready for my post....... But that sure was one hungry fish......hit my swim jig pulled off near the boat, and on slack line came back and nailed it again. Boated the fish with a good laugh!
Jeff
Back at work after a great time. Thanks to Long Mike, Traveler and WMD for toting me around in their boats and Ghoti & Roadwarrier for putting up with me as an additional co angler. Wish we had caught more fish but enjoyed the ones I did catch. Conditions were less than favorable but it sure beat a day at work!! The evening functions were alot of fun. RW's burgers were excellent and it was great to hear and meet Chris Lane, just sorry I had to leave early and miss Alpsters jambalaya. Appreciate all the work that went into putting this together by Long Mike, Zip Pow and of course Glenn & Kerri. Look forward to next year.
I'm back also. What a great trip. I made some new friends and met up with friends I made last year. It was good to put faces with the members that I had not met yet from last year. I had alot of fun fishing with the ones I got a chance too.
I will post up some pictures later.
Final report for the day...
Me and traveler boated 5 fish off of some ledges. 4 were about 2lbs or a lil more. The other one could have used as a trailer on my spinnerbait haha.

Hey RoadTripees! If you need to send a bunch of pics/videos that have large file sizes, try sending them via http://www.yousendit.com . It's free and easy to use.
Thanks!
It doesn't get any better than this!
I had a great time on the trip. I was able to meet and fish with old friends and do the same with new ones. Those are the reasons I come back every year. My only complaint is that I established my PW (Personal Worst.) Five consecutive days with not so much as a bite.
Ick stuck a good one!
Long Mike, I will tell you that Zip Pow brought up at least 4 times in the half day we fished how upset he was that he didn't get you on fish.At least you made a bunch of new friends and had a great time! Next year will be YOUR year on the road trip!!
Jeff
exactly
It sure was a great time! I'm ready for next year. I'm working on getting the pictures for my report.
Great report Jeff
I made it home, ...............finally. It seemed like a forever drive. I'm in full Zombie mode today. If I can muster up the energy, I will wash and vacuum the boat, then put it in the garage and give it a good coat of cleaner glaze followed by a coat of wax, apply a coat or two of Armorall on the rubrail and clean the seats with a vinyl cleaner. Check the tire pressures, wheel lube, and be ready to do some fishin' around here.
It was a great time. Had a great time fishing with many different members. The weather fought us every step of the way, but the social activities, from the soiree to the Alpster cajun dinner were great.
Looking forward to next year's shindig.
2012 Road Trip
IMHO, I think the Bass caught wind that Bass Resources members had blown into town and they ran for cover. LOL
I think we had two cold fronts move through the area with one bringing some rain and sleet that I was caught in; and wind and wind and wind… We had so much wind (how much was it?) we couldn’t tell which way it was coming from, in fact I got a wind advisory on my cell phone that reported “wind gust up to 40 mph possible”.
I had a great time meeting everyone; it was a bit overwhelming putting both screen names and real names with so many new faces. Thanks for making a new guy feel so welcome. I think they made me a member of the “Old Farts Club”; I was fishing with four rod/reel combo’s older than some members.
I didn't know what to expect but Ghoti's wine and cheese soirée turned out to be a home run; the spread was amazing, and other members added refreshments to the table as well, even a couple of Mason Jars of homemade liquid. Zip Pow brought in the freshest, sweetest, fruit platter I've had in a long time. When Keri and Glenn dropped in they were loaded down with boxes of freebees, cameras, and luggage just in from the west coast. They gave everyone an embroidered Bass Resource 7th Annual Road Trip fishing towel with attached and laminated big bass rules; they then laid out a table load of gifts from our sponsors, i.e. Rage Tail baits, Snag Proof Frogs, Water Gremlin sinker assortments. I’m probably forgetting someone cause I haven’t fully unpacked yet.
When all was said and done at the end of the evening, Ghoti still had enough food to offer us a takeaway lunch for the next day!
Sunday, we all piled into cars and headed to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. Even though it was Sunday in a dry town we still had a good time chatting and enjoying a good meal. Now if the Bass were this friendly and easy to meet we’d all have a great week.
Then on Monday Roadwarrier stepped up to the plate to hit the second home run with his burgers and all the fixings. RW can really fire up a grill full of good eat’n, the burgers were out of this world! And while he was slaving over a hot grill, the rest of us had a good chance to chat and become better acquainted; the weather may have been cool but everyone was warm hearted, friendly and had a good time.
Wednesday saw another dinner (you starting to see a theme here?) together at the Top O’ The River restaurant. I played it safe and went with their signature Catfish dinner. 2012 Bassmaster Classic winner Chris Lane & his son joined us and Chris presented a nice talk on his past carrier and what his Classic win means to him; he then opened the floor to Q&A from the members.
Then it was Glenn’s turn. He told us of the “Tackle the Storm Foundation” and how it’s trying to help give kids some relief and normalcy from the reality of having their life arbitrarily torn to shreds by a storm. Some of these kids have lost everything dear to them, such as family members, their home, friends, pets, community. If the Foundation can give these kids a peaceful & enjoyable day on the water it could help in some small way to help relieve some of their stress in coping with their tragedy. We then took a break while Roadwarrier worked his butt off selling raffle tickets as fast as he could count off the tickets. Riskkid2 chipped in to help RW by breaking up the stubs. You’ll have to see my photo of the table holding the prizes, there were just too many to describe like jackets, rods, sets of items, and so on.
Thursday saw Alpster drive in a winning run with his Cajun Jambalaya. Let me tell you, the aroma he whipped up in that pot was simply heavenly. It made my stomach growl in anticipation, I must have been Cajun in a past life and this was a taste of home cook’n. RW helped out by grilling up a mess of smoked sausage that topped off the Jambalaya. I tell ya it don’t get any better than this!
I’d like to quote 00Mod here with a BIG thank you to everyone who made this Road Trip possible, and the success it was
“00Mod - A BIG THANK YOU GOES OUT TO:
BIG O FOR ALL OF THE RAGE TAIL BAITS AND HATS TO EVERYONE ATTENDING
SNAGPROOF FOR ALL OF THE FROGS FOR EVERYONE AS WELL
WATER GREMLINFOR ALL OF THE WEIGHTS FOR EVERYONE AS WELL
SIEBERT OUTDOORS AND BITE IT BAITS FOR DONATING RAFFLE PRIZES TO BE WON
GLENN AND KERI FOR PUTTING SUCH A GREAT COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND HAVING SUCH A FUN TRIP!!!"
NOTE:
If you haven’t made it to a Road Trip, you’ve got to plan for next year’s event. You will not regret it - and you will have a great time!!
Traveler, you hit the nail on the head. Everything was done great. It was my first and had a blast. The "Soreh/sorerear/sorererererrerer", the BBQ, the raffle, meeting Chris Lane, and Alpsters jambalaya and gumbo (AMAZING JOB RONNIE!) were all great.
As some of you may know, I am BassResource taught. I went out with my grandparents a few times to catch bluegills but that was the extent of my fishing experience. Other than that, I had nobody to teach me bass fishing. The majority of everything I know comes from this site. And coming to this roadtrip and getting to meeting Glenn, Keri, and the rest of you fishing fools that, have pretty much been my teachers in my passion for fishing, was awesome. This was the most fun I have had in a long time, and I plan on making next year's roadtrip to where ever it is, and every single one after it.
Awesome reports and pics! I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Keri and I had a blast! A lot of work and planning goes into this by everyone involved, and everything went off without a hitch! The dinners and events were simply awesome. And we thoroughly enjoyed meeting old friends and making new ones.
I could easily write a book detailing this year's event, but I don't have that kind of time. So let me just add to the other reports a huge thanks to
I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences and stories, as there are many. But in case anyone was wondering.....
It LIVES!!!!

The one and ONLY......Long Mike!
Jeff
Guys I don't know how to some it up. All I can say is after a long drive to bama I was tired and stressed out from traffic, but as soon as I walked in the hotel to see Long Mike and the guys i had a smile on the rest of the week. Each night and morning we all had a great time together. I was stressed I didn't bring a boat but I shouldn't have been. I had a ride each day and offers for more if I needed it. Traveler was a AWESOME room mate and WMD was great at our little trip to Pickwick as well.. I cant wait to go there at out next Roadtrip!! HINT HINT!
Hey Mike, what vintage was that wine? Wednesday or Thursday?
Don't be silly Ghoti! That wine is made in Antarctica from the hard to grow "crisp white" grape. It is then made into powder form and shipped to the US by boat. Once stateside, it is a "just add water" recipe that makes it so inexpensive!!!!
Jeff
I ask if it came in "red"?
Mike said, "Sure, they just add dye or make it from grapes".

Jeff
Sorry Mike. I had to pay you back for trying to drown me Sunday. LOL
I had a great RoadTrip, except for the catching part. I was only there until Tuesday morning. I left before the weather became civilized.
The SNW&CS was pretty good this year. Had a good turn-out, and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.
I need to thank zip pow for the deluxe fruit tray, and for his peach flavored "corn wine". Thank you Brandon. I had to force myself to stay away from whatever that cheese dish was in the middle. It was top shelf. If you can get me a recipe, I'd be in your debt.
Actually, we are all in debt to Brandon. he did a lot of legwork making this trip happen. Thank you, sir.
Thanks to WMD. He brought some good wine and some munchies to add to the spread. Thanks Mike.
Thanks to 00mod. He contributed a large bottle of chard. That made Keri's trip better. He also hooked me up with a case of my wife's favorite wine, at a nice discount. Thanks Jeff. I owe you one.
Made some new friends this trip too.
Ick was my room-mate while I was there. What a lousy name for one of the good guys. We have a surprising amount of stuff in common. I'll see you again Jim.
00mod. I know I'll see you again too. Maybe on the White River with Hotdawg.
Chris at Tech. Didn't get to fish with this guy, but we did have dinner together. Another one of the good guys. Hope to see you next time.
Scorcher214 I got to fish with him and Glenn. Good times and good company. Andrew, I expected to meet somebody older. That's a compliment young man. See ya next year.
Traveler2586 Nice meeting you Eric. Next time maybe we'll wet a line together.
Riskkid2 Not a new friend, but an old one I thought was gone. Great to see you again Carl. Don't disappear again on us.
As usual, I neglected my duties as a photographer. Not a real loss, as I am one the worst picture takers in existence. I'll forward the few pics I took, just as soon as I find my camera, that is.
When's the next trip? Can we all get together again; next week maybe?
00Mod, close, but no cigar. Actually, I have my own vineyard near Medelline, Colombia. As you intimated I have my grapes reduced to a white powder to reduce shipping costs. The powder is then placed into the Franzia boxes and is then smug imported to Tulsa via Mexico.

Those crisp white grapes right??? Those ultra rare ones only you can grow and smug....transport to Tulsa.

Wow, sounds like the Road Trip was a huge success! From the food (Jambalaya is my favorite) and drink (crisp Arctic white?) to hanging with friends, meeting new ones and experiencing the beautiful Lake Guntersville area I'd say you all had a great time! Would love to see some pics of this trip. Hope you all get a chance to throw those Snag Proof Frogs soon! Guntersville is a great lake for it, although not when the wind is blowing 40mph!
Well, another awesome Roadtrip goes down in the anals (no pun intended) of Bass Resource history. It's always great to see all the old timers who make every trip and to get to meet old friends for the first time on a roadtrip. Even though we have a reputaion for bringing rotten weather to some of the best bass lakes in the country, no amount of wind or rain can stop the fun & fellowship that always takes place. This year I had Gene as a roommate in the "BassBus" and was fishing with Kent (Roadwarrior) when he caught the winning 'Big Bass' for the trip at 7 lbs, 7 oz. and had a wonderful time at the meet & greets and meal times. Although the biggest bass I could manage was less than a 2 pounder, I want to remind everyone that the last time we were at Guntersville, I was with Masshole Mike when he caught his 6 & 3/4 lb bass and this time with RW about a 100 yards from the same spot. I am considdering offers for guide service next time we go to Guntersville, but it won't be cheap. LOL. It's always a memorable experience to see everyone and fish together. It's also sad to leave for home after the roadtrip. Here's a few pictures of the memories.....
Not the biggest, but a lot of fun anyway.......
Good job RW and BTW, your fish landing team was amazing!! Everyone will have to go on the next Roadtrip to hear that story.
Just had to have another look at this hawg.......
Yours truly and Chris Lane....turns out my gumbo and jambalaya, were both heavily seasoned with one of his sponsors. "Tony Chacheres". you gotta try it!
The one and only Chris Lane. 2012 Bass Masters Classic winner. What a priviledge to meet this guy.
A few of the distinguished members of Bass Resource at the Wednesday meet & greet.
Also want to thank Glen & Keri for all their hard work and all the sponsors for sending all the goodies for us to share.
And a good time was had by all.......2013 ROAD TRIP! NO EXCUSES!!!
On 5/3/2012 at 4:38 AM, Alpster said:And a good time was had by all.......2013 ROAD TRIP! NO EXCUSES!!!
Now that's where talent shows. Scorcher & I launched there and worked the area without a bite.
But on the down stream side of the bridge (100 yards. away) we hit on a feeding frenzy and landed 25 - 30 White Bass
I'd trade that for a seven pounder any day

Connie, Thanks for supporting us. As the water warms up and the topwater bite gets rolling I'm gonna take mine out and give them a shot. I can't wait.
So after reading some more G-ville fishing reports for the last week, I've decided that next year I'll be coordinating my own roadtrip. I'll be going wherever the official BR road trip takes place, but either a week before or a week after. That seems to be a sure recipe to find a lake that's on fire!

I'm not so sure about that. Pickwick was just fine in spite of the heavy rains that shut down Nashville and parts of I-40 in Tennessee. Anytime you catch a 6 pound + smallmouth, a five pound spot, and a four and a half pound smallmouth on three successive casts, you won't hear me complain. If memory serves, the Pickwick Road Trip was in early May. And, lest I forget, I caught my first drum at Pickwick. I had no idea what it was.
I really like Ish's Phat Frog. I will be buying more of those for sure. Thanks for the samples.

Come to think of it, can anyone else confirm Rhino's story about the 6lb smallie, 5lb spot and 4lb smallie? I'm betting they were actually drum, bowfin or pickeral. That's one heck of an Al Lindner limit!

Big O weighed them all, and Bassin Sargent took the pictures.
OK, OK -- they're bass. But your 5-drum limit was even bigger than that stringer!

I wanted to tell everyone that I had an awesome time at this years Roadtrip. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of you, and seeing some of you again that I met last year. I had the pleasure of fishing with a few of you and I gotta say that I wish we lived closer, because you all are people that I enjoy spending time with. I have finally arranged my pics and videos. If you want to see them please send me your email address so I can send you an invite to the yousendit folder they're in. If there is an easier way using yousendit, please let me know. It is the first time I've used that service, so I'm a noob.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again, having been a member now long enough to get to know this site and a few of it's members fairly well, I now understand what makes BassResource.com such a special place. It is the people. This site's owners Glenn and Keri, it's mods, and it's faithful members are a special group of people and I'm proud to be a part of it.
Rhino, send me your email address and I'll get you those videos.
Ghoti, pm me your mailing address and I'll send you a bottle of that Oliver Blackberry wine.
Gene, if you have any copies of pics and videos of our day on the water, I'd love to get them. You can shoot them to needgolflessons@hotmail.com if that works for you.
If you haven't ever been, ya needta! Roadtrip 2013 is sure to be awesome!
Hey scrutch, I would love to see you pics and vids.

Arrrgh matey, there be dangerous waters ahead.
The biggest disappointment for Keri and I, is that we don't get a chance to fish with everyone. We don't remember all the fish we caught, but we certainly remember everyone we fished with!

Hey y'all, I see that some of my links to my Roadtrip pics and vids didn't make it to some of you. If you wanna see them and haven't received a "yousendit" invite, shoot me a pm including your email address and I'll get you one. Still working out how this yousendit thing works, so if you get there and there aren't any pics and videos, I THINK it's because someone chose to "move" the files instead of "copy and paste" them. If you want copies please just copy and paste. There are 83 of them and I've had to re-upload them twice now. The is a good chance it's my own stupidity, I just haven't figured out how yet.
Scrutch, do you know if there is any way to make it to where you can look at thumbnails instead of downloading each one individually?
Jeff
I only wish I could remember how I got these to my gallery in the first place.
I didnt teach a jig class wish i knew how

At this point no. I'm about ready to start burning picture disks and sending them via good ol USPS.
I just posted a bunch in my profile gallery. Check them out.
