Frog Turds 2013 Bassin Season... 2024

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :
Instead of making multiple threads for reports, I'm just going to make 1 on going post which just makes sense ;)

I got a gopro this spring so bear with me until i get more used to things...going to do some different set up on my toon for it...right now its just on the TM shaft with the gopro handlebar kit...but its gotta change because i move around to much and at different angles...works good if anchored and i can just turn the TM to where i'm casting etc...but otherwise, not so good...more time i'm fartin with the camera the less time my line is in the water or lose fish messin around with hit...

i also only have a couple battery's right now which equal a whopping 3hrs tops...got the bacpac and its dies within minutes so its gotta go back...so in the mean time til i get a crap load of the batteries, many times i have the camera off til i get a one then turn it on to conserve them since i'm out all day typically...remember to change the player vid quality to the highest available usually 1080HD, i normally shoot all my vids thus far in 1080p @ 60fps but theres one i think where i was testin 720...

anyways our inland bassin season just started on May 25th...but i was able to get some fish on vid...and for the southern boys remember that northern strain bass don't grow near as big, we have a shorter growing season...anything over 3# is a big girl, over 4 is a solid biggun & 5's are bonafide slobs & over 6 are trophy largies in my waters...Mn state record = 8-15oz

okay, so onto the fishes...yesterday was a great day & put a hurtin on them...you know its a good day when the next mornin you gotta put super glue on your thumb cuz its so tore up lol...here in minnesota we've had a ton of rain, so all the lakes are maxed out which makes for all that much more cover in the water...

heres a nice chunk of blubber, one of the prettiest green gals i've come across, sure gotta nice tail on her  :woman:

these are gopro black screen captures...

5.3352813-2.jpg

then a froggy bass, was walkin it but the froggy didn't get much walkin in before it got slammed...

52813koppersfrog-1.jpg

so ya know this is what i bass it in...its customized, 55# TM reversed & a 1 piece deck with the battery on the back(which was the front) for a counter balance...its set up different then this pic before the Ninja Toon v3.0 conversion...

sippi51313.jpg

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

then heres one from the day before...this was a cold windy rainy day but the largies didn't care...a buddy & i that has one of the sea eagle frameless pontoons were out and made chicken salad outta chicken poo, weather wise it was crapola...

theres a smaller bass in the beginning that you can see with the slowmo toss my jig...then a big girl afterwards which the segment starts once i got her free after she wrapped me up in some wood, it was chaotic for a bit...

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Some monsters there!

fishing user avatarQUIENYO reply :

Those are some chunky mamas you got there. Nice job on the videos. Keep em' coming.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

appreciate it fellas!!

heres a few more from that day...

52713chunk.jpg

this was my 2nd best fish of the day but it was raining and obviously it got on the lens right dead center lol

fishing user avatarjherm87 reply :

Nice fish. Looks like a great time. The Gopro makes an awesome little camera. Definitely take back that battery backpack and get a new one. Keep it up man

fishing user avatarTuckahoe Joe reply :

Awesome fish!  I'll be sure to follow this thread.  Also about the last picture with the rain on the lens...someone else on here mentioned a while back that they treated they're lens with Rain-X.  I've never used it on a camera but it works great on my windshield.

fishing user avatarGeorgiaBassBros reply :

Definitely some nice fish! but i cant imagine living somewhere that the state record isnt even over 10 pounds  :dazed-7:

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

Awesome fishing. I saw you cut away the weighing part.......what did those weigh?

Jeff

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

I appreciate the good words guys!!  as time goes on my vids will improve once i get the bugs worked out...

00Mod, the big fish of the last outting was 5.33 & spawned out, we've had abnormally cold spring and late spawn for us...the other from the previous day was 4.29 then all of others ranged from 3#'s to mid & upper 3's and then a few that were just a smidgen under 4#'s, none of the fish posted are under 3#'s...

i cut any unnecessary stuff out because even short vids is time consuming as hell...my few year old laptop is just not up to snuff for editing video since it just has an i3 core in it, need something much more powerful/faster...always on the verge of crashing it lol

i've never fished southern bass, but i've read others that have fished northern strain up north & fished down there that for whatever reason have come to the conclusion that northern strain have a bit more fight in them/more aggressive  :Idontknow:

thanks man!!~have to do some googling to see what folks use, cuz that sucks to have happen and i'm no fair weather fisherman ;)

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

What brand pontoon is that?

Great fish & pictures.

Outcast Fishcat thats 10' x 4.5' and its customized alot from what it was off the shelf...my next outing i'll take a pic of the v3.0...but if someone asked me to recommend one, it'd tell them to look at the Dave Scadden Skykomish Sunrise aka North Fork Outdoors...Dave used to be a designer for Outcast...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks dwight!!

heres a vid with 3 clips i spliced together of that same day with a few of the smaller fish weightless riggin yum dingers...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

heres some more vids from when i was out on 6/1/13...all the better fish were caught froggin & pitchin wood and old cattail cane/new just coming up...ended up with 20 fish toon'd on this outing...

heres a couple frog topwater vids...

3.74#'s...

6113slopbass.jpg

another froggy bass, i took the weight but dont know which weight it was i had written down to be exact...decent fish though for my waters...

6113buggeyedbass.jpg

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

then a few more pics of other good fish from the day...

4.27# that was a frog fish & also had a dink bass in her throat and still wanted the frog, glutton lol  she was in some old cattail cane right up next to shore...

61134.27.jpg

not sure which weight this one i had written down but was over 3#'s during some torrential downpour...when that rain kicked up i found some sheltered laydowns and started pitchin it...in short order pulled out several dandy's like this one...almost wish the rain didn't stop...

6113rainyjigpigfatty.jpg

then the last fish of the day was another of the same weight, 3.74#'s pitchin jig pig in some sparse cattails..

6113lastfish.jpg

heres another walkin the frog around wood...i casted to the right side of that laydown and as it got to the end, WHAM!!

6113froglaydown-001.jpg

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

this is my Ninja Toon V3.0 with the reversed 55# Tm and 1 piece vinyl'd deck i made for it...so i can stand & have the TM right there...i extended the TM wires and drilled a hole just below it so i could run the wires underneath then drilled a hole in front of where the battery sits to come up there...

the battery and the anchor that sits behind it acts as a good counter balance...i have oar locks and leave them in the water & when motoring act as keels which give me alot of good tracking...i also have little bungee cords i tie around the oarlocks and frame so they don't pop off the mounts when in shallow water when they happen to dig in etc...

toomv3.0-001.jpg

toomv3.0.jpg

fishing user avatarTuckahoe Joe reply :

That looks like a pretty sweet ride!  Some nice fish in the recent vids as well!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks Joe!!...might look a bit funky of a vessel to some but she is functional as all hell for what i do bassin, it really rocks that way  :Ninja1:

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Nice pics, and vids! Looks like you've been smokin them! Way to go!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

appreciate it Mark!!~ya its been a good start for me thus far...what has made things especially good is that we've had a ton of snow pack here & rain...so the lakes are over and above normal levels which equals ALOT of good cover in the water....which is the polar opposite of last season where we were in a severe drought and the lakes were 2-3' down, it was a sad state...

fishing user avatarpowerduster reply :

Big and beautiful! Nice

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

are you in Central MN? I love these videos you have. Those are great. We rarely throw frogs out there but you make it look fun. What is the water temps where your fishing at now? By the end of the week, there were a few lakes that had coves that hit 63 degrees but the lakes were predominantly 59 degrees by the end of the week. That first fish look huge, i am amazed it's already spawned out. So you guys are in mid spawn as we are in the beginning i guess. I love those videos man! What lake did you catch your PB out there?

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

my PB was caught in what was a public then turned private quarry many moons ago...6.30#'s is my most recent best down here...

i'm in southern, Mn like an hour or so south of Minneapolis off of I35...i mainly fish Rice & Le Suer county lakes...more farming county down here and the waters will be warmer at this time then up north...but unfortunately mine get exorcist pea soup in hot months...not sure what the water temp is actually, don't have any means yet on my toon but definitely warmer then ottertail county...those lakes ice out well later then these in my area...especially this nutty season...

i always do best walking the hollow body frogs whenever possible like in the vids, a technique every frog fisherman must master ;)

appreciate the good words shimmy!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

heres one from today, took me awhile to find the big girls...this particular lake can be a tough nut to crack at times & the better part of the day it was slow goings with just picking up 1 here & 2 there type scenario...some short, keepers & okay fish but not the better fish i was after...i was really starting to rethink my decision to go where i went this particular day...it can be one of the more challenging lakes i fish but i stuck it out and it paid off :)

heres the 5.70# big fish of the day...

GOPR0223-001.jpg

then this one i got right after the above but with a jig...3.28#'s

then this was another froggin girl, 4.4#'s

65134.44.jpg

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

Great fish!! I wish I could post my bass that I got so far...computer down!!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was out on the mississippi backwaters yesterday, my 2nd time out on them...i love how it is in these areas...all natrual, get back in them & don't see development and makes ya feel your either down south or way up north...just beautiful stuff back in there to see though...i'm staying over this way for a few weeks so i'm trying to get as much in as i can with exploring these spots...

it was a good day though and toon'd 30+ fish...not alot of bigguns but hella fun none the less... i pretty much spent the day pitchin wood 99% of the time...the veg growth is waaaaaaaaaaay behind where it should be due to our colder than normal spring...these areas should be pretty vegged out and i would of been puttin the flippin stick to work but not there yet...

big girl of the day was a 4.25er...

68134.25FL-001.jpg

then i made a few pitchin compilation vids...get to really see how it looks back in there...so many spots, so little time :(

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

the last one part 3...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Great vids and pics Man U have been catching some really nice fish

fishing user avatarTuckahoe Joe reply :

That looks like bass heaven...good fish!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

appreciate it fella's!!

was at another backwater area on 6/10 & toon'd 17 this round...different flavor at this area then the others and took me awhile to find the better fish & of course it was at the end of my outing...but it was a learning experience for this sippi river greenhorn and a beautiful day!!

biggest largie of the day was a 3.24#

68133.24robinsonbw.jpg

then a vid of the best smallie of the day @ 2.79# which was a nice bonus since i wasn't expecting to find the smallies around the cattails with muck bottom etc...

61013smalliesbg.jpg

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Very nice fish and video man

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks AK!!

I went to another backwater area and struggled this round...things started off well but the wind became problematic later on for me...but i never gave up and keep pluggin away...ended up with 14 fish but not one over 3#'s (which is minimum big girl status for northern strain up here)...got close but no cigar...top 5 went 2.93, 2.88, 2.86, 2.75 & 2.73...for Mn those are common decent largies but nothing special...

i tell ya what though the bugs are seriously buggin in the backwaters...i need to get one of those face nets for out there...so far whatever the hell they are they don't bite but bug you to no end if the wind is down...you can see them flying around in the vid...used my buff alot partly so i'd quit eatin them or have'em go up my nose  :mad1:

again not bad fish for Mn & still fun none the less since most all except for one of the better fish was on the frog, which never gets old ;)

61313basspic.jpg

61313froggy%2520bass-001.jpg

61313fishpic3.jpg

61313fishishpic2.jpg

then a topwater frog vid, this was the first fish of the day which came very shortly after i launched...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Really nice pics and videos as usual man.

I haven't really had any luck using top water frogs so far this season in FL.

fishing user avatarMitch G. reply :

Ribbit,ribbit!!!!!!....NICE SLOBS!!!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks fella's!!

explored some different areas of a backwater i hit previously yesterday...28 fish toon'd  if i wrote them all down, not sure...

things started out rough though man, like about broke my will...i found 2 spots with big girls right...1st big girl i had to the toon & was grabbing the net and poof came off, that one i have no doubts would of been a 4+#er...second one is another good fish, get her by the toon and came off before i could do anything, just pulled loose, grrr...

okay by that time i'm pretty PO'D!!...get to big girl spot 2, WHAM another good fish upper 3's possibly 4...i reach down to grab her & she thrashes & waves bye bye!!~i'm like EFFIN REALLY!!!!!!!...next fish another goodun, i have the net & its in the water then just as i go to scoop her up she comes unbuttoned...i'm like you GOTTA BE !$%!# ME!!!

these were in 2 different spots but 4 consecutive big fish i lost...i went from the previous one i lost 2 in to the next and lost those...no fish inbetween...now you can see why it about broke my will...i rarely ever lose big fish, let alone 4 in a roll...i was beyond HOT...

but i kept pluggin away & just kept tellin myself "don't give up" ...atleast later on i kinda made up for it a little by getting my other big girls...but it shudda cudda wudda been my best day in the backwaters thus far with a very solid 5 fish bag...

but god all mighty the bugs in the backwaters man, they really hamper your fishin...seriously its like a little bug cloud around your head/body all day...feel like pig pen from the peanuts but bugs vs dirt...had to use the buff alot not for the sun as for the dang bugs to keep them outta my mouth & nose...

heres a few from the day...the below pic is the "never give up" fish of the day...it was the first big girl i landed after that bad string of losses & the last fish in the vid which i missed gettin her catch on camera of course :P

615131stBG.jpg

61513bass3.jpg

61513BGFL3.02-001.jpg

61513bass4.jpg

615133.30-001.jpg

Then I had the camera off most of the day so didn't get alot of footage so i put a few snippets together of what i had got...then its the Murphy's Law deal when i get a good fish the camera is pointing in la la land lol

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i went to another backwater on 6/19 that i hadn't been to before and looked good from the road but it was the worst so far...just not good bassy habitat like the other pervious ones i've been at...couldn't tell from looking at it from the road but i found out real quick it was less then desirable cuz its primarily all sand...

i found one small area just off the main channel that held some decent fish but for the most part that was it...i went around the entire backwater and sand, sand & more sand...then areas that had emergent veg were inches deep water growing on sand bars...where even in the toon i'd have to lift the TM and oar over which i still rubbed the bottom...couple spots i thought i may have to jump out & drag my @ss to deeper water...this backwater was a "looks are deceiving" kinda place...but neva know til ya give it a go ;)

no shortage of pikies in this one though, the turds gutted 2 brand new Koppers...

fish were caught on frogs, weightless stick worms and light punchin veg mats using a 3/4oz tung, 3/0 trokar with a zoom zhog watermelon/red...these very small mats were curly leaf pondweed that were washed up on the bank and the fish were under them in only about a foot of water...

heres one frog vid from there...can see the main sippi channel just on the other side of that breakwall...

619132.95.jpg

one of the light punch fish...

619131stpunchfish.jpg

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was at a small in the city limits reservoir yesterday, its a short run place from my girlfriends house...1st time i've been on it with my toon...its one of those joints that is chock a block full of shorts & dinks...so if you get a 2# fish thats a decent catch for this place...

but i was doing some light punchin with a 3/4oz tung, 3/0 trokar flippin hook and again the zoom zhogs, watermelon red...

the 3 fish in the vid...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Some nice fish man as usual congrats and thanks for the footage

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Was out yesterday and was a decent day but i didn't venture too far with the storms rumbling in the distance...not like i can gun it to the ramp or anything if it turns for the worse...

i threw the frog the whole time...missed more than i should of but thats also par for the course froggin in garbage patches...

heres pics of the better few...the first one i seen going after something back by the edge of the denser cattails & tossed that frog right in the pocket where she was and WHAM, love it when a plan comes together :)

62413largie4.jpg

62413largie2.jpg

62413largie6.jpg

and Mr Grumpy...

62413puppyfish.jpg

then a couple compilation froggin vids of the day...

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

as always, that sure looks fun out there. I think good sir, you have an addiction to froggin.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

haha ya i do love froggin when their on it, never gets old see'n them blow up on the frog...another addiction is punchin, which there will be a bunch of vids of that coming up...its just our veg is way behind this year but its starting to get there and the flippin stick will be going to work overtime very soon...

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Nice thread ~ I am really enjoying the pic & videos.

Your home waters appear to be cover filled and home to all kinds of healthy bass.

I bet your boat makes for easy access that others may not have.

The bugs have been a bear here too and I do use a bug-proof head net.  They take a little getting used to but they do reduce the insects up the nose dramatically.

Thanks for sharing.

btw, do you use an anchor ?

A-Jay

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks for the good words A-Jay :)  ya i use an anchor when necessary but make all attempts not to if possible...chewing on the idea of making a kind of manual power pole...but ya theres pretty much no areas i can't get into with the toon, for my needs its the perfect slop vessel...i can lift the TM and oar over anything...minnesota lakes & backwaters have a lot of shallower heavy cover choked areas where its impossible for boats to venture...

the one con with filming with the toon is that its so light that when setting the hook and/or fighting the fish it turns and pieces of the catch go out of frame...but just something i gotta deal with because i really don't want to wear it on my head and the chest harness is no good for it either since my torso will rotate setting the hook/fighting the fish and its even worse for losing the shot...

i do gotta get one of those nets man...the bugs aren't near as bad on the inland lakes but the backwaters are a whole different kind of buggy, they show no mercy and really do negatively effect your productiveness on the water...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

The king of froggin! I wish the frog action was as active as it is where u r here in Jacksonville, nothing like some top water action

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

another minnesota mississippi backwater outing on 6/30/13 & yup you guessed it, its frogtastic :)  tried out a new frog this day the Booyah pad crusher...theres hella pikies in these waters and gets expensive to have 2 koppers on average get gutted per outing...the pad crushers is nearly half the price so it makes it a little easier to swallow gettin tore up...i really liked the frog and it walks excellent with the belly design its got...hook up ratio was great, soft body and sticky hooks so its my new froggin froggy...

heres some pics of the better fish of the day...

then a couple compilation vids...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Man you live the life my friend. Those are some real nice fish. I was under the impression that you have used the booyah pad crusher, you obviously have better luck than I do with them or any frog for that matter.

Again great pics and videos as usual

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Frog Turds...nice fish as always. Me and you would have a froggin field day if we ever fished together.  Awesome pics!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

AK, I've only ever used spro's & koppers...I went with koppers after they came out because they were softer and my hookup ratio was better with them, the medium 55T is what i always use, when i threw spro's it was the jr...i still use the spro poppers but i don't throw the regular spro frogs unless its a backup frog...like i mentioned i just turned to the booyah's cuz the pikies are costing me too much $$...but the pad crushers have worked well so far & i always touch up hooks no matter...

Mark, no doubt about it man & punchin ;)  our veg has been way behind due to the colder spring we had and its just now gettin prime for punchin...there will be a bunch of punch vids coming up in the very near future...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

this was my last Mississippi river backwater bassin huck finn experience tour of duty...the backwaters are a helluva drive from where i live but my girlfriend lives at the halfway point...but commuting gets to cost alot in my V8 truck etc...but i was willing to do it for a bit to fulfill a lifetime itch that i was finally able to scratch...i very well might hit it again later in the season but for now i'm back to do my usual inland lake circuit...

it was a good ride and the last day went out with a bang...just couldn't ask for a better day and pounded a bunch of fish, it was simply sloptastic  :headbang:

don't know that the deal is exactly but alot of the pike i caught in the sippi at various locations had some kind of sores, this one was by far the worst...

7113bass10.jpg

then 2 compilation vids of my last day...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Any word of VHS virus in your waters? Those sores look like what the beginning of VHS is like  Awesome fish and vids again.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks Mark!!  and ya there is VHS in the waters, mississippi being one...

Yea..my mistake I realized it was a dumb question after I posted it knowing VHS is present there. lol. Well lets hope it's just a sore and not the VHS.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Those are some nice fish as usual that's a nice sized pike

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

appreciate it AK, theres no shortage of pike in any MN waters but holy crap they are insanely thick in the backwaters...

Mark I sent that pike pic to the Mn DNR and they he said most likely lymphosarcoma...

That's interesting.  Here is a pic of the worst sore/growth I've seen on a Pike. Almost looks like an infected wound.

pikenasty

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

that definitely looks like that fish lymphosarcoma stuff, ish...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME PUNCHIN!!!!!  :eyebrows:   was out yesterday on one of my neck of the woods lakes i hit here & there since my sippi backwater stint is done for now...been chompin at the bit to put my flippin stick to work and do some real punchin again...but with our cooler than usual spring the veg has just recently become ripe...so i put the frog rod down, for the most part that is ;)  and focused on punchin...

the wind was problematic in my toon at 15/20mph's but the wind never stops me & i just make the best out of it...you don't see the wind so much in the veg i'm in but it was there...still with the adverse conditions i managed 21 fish, 1 was a bowfin the rest largies...4 were frog bass then the remainder punch fish...

got a little frustrated in the beginning, took me losing my 3rd/4th fish to realize my drag wasn't locked-locked down, slipped some and i think a bit of ring rust thrown in seein as its been since last season that i did real punchin...losing fish punchin is like froggin, goes with the territory but it was like 4 in a roll and i wasn't to happy with that ratio...but i got my bugs worked out and turned things around shortly thereafter...

heres some pics of the better fish of the day...

glad your enjoyin the show GF'n :)

was out yesterday on a smaller lake with my girlfriend...hotter than the gates of hell with practically no wind & high swamp @ss humidity...was primarily punchin again...theres was some thick filamentous algae with coontail under it...if you missed your spot you weren't gettin through with a 1oz, that snot gets hella thick...so just got to pick the weak links in the armor and be precise in your pitch or your punch rig will get wrapped up like a mummy with it...

then lost one punch rig to a pikie, man thats irritating when it happens...

i've been using zoom zhogs mainly in these vids in either watermelon red or black red flake and switch it up with havoc pit boss's and devil spears...

appreciate it AK & A-Jay!!...was a good day indeedy and when i said, "there it is" on the second to last fish in the vid was when i got my final respectable limit fish...the frog bass at the end of the vid i caught before that fish...i had 4 good solid fish and other smaller keepers for my limit but i was workin for that last goodun to really seal the deal on the day and towards the end of my outing i got her :)

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

I headed out on 7/13 and another windy @ss day...the wind was from the south which should of given me some good leeward areas but it channeled down this lake as if it were an east wind, made it a little problematic...so i didn't run the gopro much because it proved to be too much trouble tying to keep the spots i was fishin in view...so i just left the camera on and when i got a fish i'd start recording so i could get screen captures of the fish later...

it was a good day though for quality vs quantity which i'll take any day hands down...out of the 13 fish, my top 5 limit fish were all 3+...4.03, 3.88, 3.43, 3.24 & 3.02...for up here thats not too bad of a bag...all fish were jig piggers except the 3.02 was on a crank & my last fish of the day as i was heading in...not one frog bass that day, not that i didn't try but just wasn't the day for it...missed 2 fish on the frog which i think both were pike, 1 for sure was since it projectiled itself out of the water trying to hammer it...

heres the pics of the better green fishes...the top fish is how my day began with the 3.88 and just yards from where i launched...i started out pitchin & it was my first pitch when i was reeling up she took a swing at it, so i pitched it back and i got her :)

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

I did some froggin this weekend. I was using the Stanley Ribbit frog, in white, with the Ribot double take hooks. My buddy I went fishing with over the weekend put me onto these, way better than the booyah frogs. I caught a few nice sized ones including a nice 4# last night around 7:45pm. I saw the fish jump straight out the water, must have been chasing a bait fish or a bug on the too of the water. So I cast my frog to where I figure he was and then 4 seconds later BOOM CRUSHED it. I have never had that much success til I use these frog I am hooked now!

Turds u inspired me to start froggin, nice fish as usual. But whenever I try to watch your vids it tells me I can only watch it on YouTube and it won't load the video, idk why that is.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

glad to hear your having success now & got that fatty on it, thats awesome man and i appreciate the fact that what i've shown has inspired others :) ...froggin once you get what works for you down is one of the most adrenaline fueled techniques there is, as i've mentioned before seein largies blow up on frogs just never gets old...

theres more than one way to skin a cat froggin...its good you found something that you've obviously have gained confidence in...my biggest strength with froggin is walking them which is my primary confidence and key presentation...there's a handful of various presentations i use pending but walking them is my main...

i'm not sure why it says that when your trying to watch them, cuz i can watch them on here with no issues...so i'm sorry i don't have an answer for that...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was out yesterday and it was a real struggle, i was fishin angry all day.  we've had some serious torrential rains and high lake water is the norm right now but this lake was pure poo.  All the other lakes the water quality hasn't been negatively effected but actually improved compared  But this lake has a feeder creek that runs through farm land and don't know if was just from run off, farm tile or both but it made the entire lake diarrhea...i wouldn't have known & just wasn't expecting the conditions to be what they were...out of all the lakes I have around, i couldn't of picked a worse one...i should have turned around & went elsewhere...

usually this lake has a huge defined weedline all the way around it consisting of coontail & northern milfoil mostly...and usually alot of matted veg and a few pockets of pads...but the chocolate high water I couldn't see anything for veg really...the few pad pockets were sporadic and mostly submerged...

I toon'd 10 fish but I really had to work for them and the quality wasn't there...then to top off the crappy day right at the end a pikie stole another punch rig...gets spendy losing tungstens & trokars to'em...

heres a vid with some froggin & some punchin of most of the fish from the day...you can really see how bad the water is, pure turds...

then my one okay fish of the day off of the froggy...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

I was just watching your latest video. Looked like you nabbed 3 off the very same pocket on the frog? Is that right or did the spots just look dead nuts similar?  Also, for some reason or another around 3:20 into it the video stopped and I couldn't watch anymore.  Good fishing overall, I always enjoy your reports Darryl.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

many thanks mark!! i have a good one comin up once i get all the vid edited, woo wee it was punchalicious piggy piggy ;)  but ya i got 3 off the same nook, doesn't usually happen like that but there were some stacked around that spot where the feeder creek dumps in...

were you watchin the vids on here or youtube when it happened?  I just rewatched it on both and work okay for me, the rest of the punch fish from then on...well kinda punchin that is, had to work with what scraps the lake gave me like the submerged pads lol

YouTube. All your videos on this site say the embedding has been disabled and directs you to YouTube.  Fyi...my last outing this past weekend didn't produce anything worthy of film or pictures. Everything was short fish and I had some boat issues which killed some water time for us. Not the best outing, so until next time I got nothing..

EDIT: seems to be fixed Darryl. Just picked up from where I was cut off yesterday.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

I went back & changed the settings so there shouldn't be anymore issues, a newbie vid/youtuber duh deal lol  I've been checkin your page to see if anything new, its time to turn the tables man & get on some blubber :)

I was out yesterday and got redemption in a big way...my 5 fish bag weighed up to 22.61...i had 4 fish over 4#'s with 2 of those that went 5+...i was trying the rest of the time to get that last 4+ fish to put all 5 limit fish over 4, but couldn't find her...i sure tried though, 3.88 brought up the rear...

that slop i was punchin was nasty, with blue green algae and that green exorcist puke goo gets like gelatinous  :puke1: ...like some kind of bad industrial waste...its always like that at this lake...then on top of it the place smells like a cows @ss from the near by farm with a little dead fish funk mixed in for good measure...but i know this place produces some real hogs so i grin & bear it...

at first i wasn't finding what i thought i should of in the area i was in...i was punchin holes like a crack head going through rocks and no takers, then moved a little bit down the line and it was hammer time...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

haha  of course I've been out mark ;)   but the last 2 compilation vids from the 19th outing that are on my YT page i didn't post here cuz theres a lil bit of swearin in them...it was one of those fun days out with a buddy that has a sea eagle toon...usually when i'm out solo and taping i really try to bite my tongue lol

but we were punchin all day, i managed 26 & he didn't keep track after awhile but he was right there too...so it was around a 45-50 fish day...my big fish went 3.17 & he beat me out with a 3.19 lol  but not a big fish bag day, my 5 fish went just 13.53#'s...but it was a goodtime since we were gettin on fish consistently & enough decent ones to keep it fun...

then my gopro black took a crap and had to send it back, should have the replacement by the end of next week, irritating as hell...so won't be any vids for a bit...

then i was out a couple days ago & where i went is a good bass fishery but the conditions were horrid, 1st time there...there was algae that inundated the water column from the bottom to the top & the whole lake looked like the pic...no good emergent cover & all the sub veg was wrapped up like a mummy in it...i picked up 23 fish but no bigguns, some dinks, some shorts, some keepers, some pike & a white bass and big fish was only 2.99#...it was tough conditions with that algae...i finally started crankin the sub veg drops and got all my better fish BUT i didn't switch til the last 1-1.5hrs of the day...the thought kept creeping in my mind to crank but i was being stubborn...but as soon as i started crankin i immediately got into fish and decent ones...be a good lake for early on or fall feed baggin but summer, nah...

Nice report. Glad you're still on them. Yes it sucks I live as far away as I do. Wish I was closer, maybe one day.

I use Trokar 5/o too. Good hook just rough on plastics.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was out on a small lake i haven't been "on" before...bank beat it a couple times many years ago...for me it was a boring lake, all the good cover was in super shallow water, sporadic coontail here & there and not much for wood or even docks...picked up 16 fish but i really worked for them...caught on a variety of different baits, hollowbody swimbaits, jig piggy ='d pitchin docks, the little wood there was & pitchin to coontail clumps, spinnerbait & punchin but very little good real estate to punch there...threw a couple types of cranks and to my surprise i couldn't buy a bite...spinnerbait this day was the most productive and jig piggin 2nd...

i found 1 high potential punchin spot and it was the only spot like it on the whole small lake that had the big lily pad tube roots floating clumped together with some pads & coontail under it...but the key and what made this spot special was that it had some depth to the water under it and was on the outside edge with the wind blowing into it...other lakes i go to have monster condominiums of tube roots floating and this particular one in another lake i would of most likely passed by it but just like that isolated piece of timber, being the only one around anywhere is what made it a prime real estate spot on this lake...

so i seen that clump cruising by, took a hard right turn to it and first punch in it, the plan came together with a 4.60# chunker...

DSCN1316.JPG

I'm one that doesn't like to hit the same lake too close together time frame wise...so usually in summer, i bounce from one to the other and when i've exhausted all the lakes that are within a reasonable distance i'll start my circuit over...

its more of a challenge and exciting when i hit either a new lake or the 1st time hitting said lake within the new season...for me especially, going to new waters i haven't been on and working at gettin that tourney limit and some big girls is what really motivates me and gets me stoked bassin :)

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

Very cool!  I always like sticking a good one at a "new" lake!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Well I got my replacement gopro on friday since the other had issues & had to send it in to them...shockingly good customer service though i must say, atleast who i was working with...he sent out the replacement once i showed i shipped it before even gettin the other back, that rocks :)

So I went out on saturday and started off with a little bit of froggin when i first got on the water and picked up a couple & the rest was primarily punchin...was an overall decent day, missed more than i felt i should of but some days just seem to roll out that way...no monsters this round but some good fish to make it a solid day...

seen the first signs of fall approaching with some of the sub veg grass starting to let loose and floating making some small mats...1st punch fish of the day actually came out of one...

at the end of the 2nd vid is the bowfin, not a big one though...pretty common gettin them punchin when in bowfin waters...they occupy the same low rent areas largies are in...just angry fish making them a handful at times to deal with on the toon lol...their good at throwing baits with them hard mouths, don't always get good hooks in'em besides them going ballistic when caught...so many times they self release i call it before coming aboard, which is fine with me....but i think their awesome fish, living relics of days gone by...

heres some of the better fish from the day...

then a couple compliation vids...at the beginning i somehow got my vid setting goofed and had it on 960p wide...so there a few fish with the black bar deal on the sides...i noticed it when i switched out a battery so after those few the vid gets normal again...

Looked like another good day right there ~ Always enjoy the videos too.

Never been on any bowfin habitat so I've not caught one.

I know there is no thumb-hold them making it challenging to hold for a photo / video.

That one decided he'd had enough and made his escape - almost giving you a face wash in the process.

How do you fish that water after the pads die ?

A-Jay

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

good to hear you guys are enjoying them though, i do appreciate it :)

A-Jay, i like catchin the bows but i actually prefer when i get'em, able to fight'em and they shake off at the toon...thats the perfect bowfin catch & release for me right there lol...that was a smaller one, the bigguns are a real pain in the @ss and can just wreak havoc on my small vessel thrashing around, just grumpy turds...

in fall once the pads die back & heavy cover is gone then i go to throwin cranks & jig pig almost exclusively for fall feed bag fishin...theres a couple other baits that get water time but a small % compared...then i start focusing on areas that have wood cover along with the last green sub veg i can find next to deep water...then as the shallow sub veg dies back i move farther & farther out as it recedes from the shallows fishin only where the last deep veg is still green...i'll fish until it turns to hardwater...last season my last day was dec 2nd but that was a freakishly warm year...actually broke some skim ice with my toon that day haha

but that particular lake isn't one typically hit in the fall...i have certain lakes that are my primary early spring & fall bassin waters and others that are my summer heavy cover waters...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Good report again Darryl. Unfortunately, my weekend stunk. I couldn't find any fish...it was bizarre.  Almost like they had all disappeared. Probably my worst weekend out this year.  Punching, froggin, t-rig, senkos...nothing produced.  Oh well..that's why it's fishing and not catching...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Its hella frustrating when the day rolls out like that mark…I was on a lake recently and in a solid 8 hours of nose to the grind stone bassin i got 4 largies & 1 pikie for the day...didn't take me long to see what i was up against so my focused turned to just gettin that 5 fish limit...i worked & worked and could not for the life of me get that last fish...the fish I did get were jig piggers but i threw a bunch of crap at them and they gave me the middle finger…I was overtime fishin fatigued by the end of the day, mentally & physically…

that was one of my fall only places cuz it lacks quality shallow cover, inpart because the lake association employs a big weed skimmer that takes alot of it when it gets matted...only emergent veg there is anyways is a small 30 x 30 blurp of sparse pads in a shallow nook...i've actually never fished this place in summer because of the lack of good veg...fall though this lake is a different story with some real ba donka donk donkeys swimmin in there...

but i wasn't seein much for any activity in the shallows either except some bowfin eating small dragonflies...the fish I did get were all in different parts of lake, 2 from docks and 3 from wood…the only common denominator with all the spots was that they were high bank areas & the lake bottom structure transitioned fast to deep water…if i was more equipped for deeper crankin things very well could have been different, its on my next season goal list...

gonna have to get some redemption next round mark ;)

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was out last wednesday the 7th with my girlfriend and needed a good day after my previous poor showing...big fish of the day went 4.05#...

wish i would of gotten it on vid but i was punchin a spot then all of a sudden the water erupts just off to the side of me just a few feet away and this big ol bowfin bursts of the water with a blugill stickin out of its mouth and just sat there for several seconds laying on top of a thick matted clump of pads...looked nutty as hell as the bluegill tail was floppin back & forth made it look like the bowfin was stickin its tongue out at me goin neener neener or something lol

Are you using a fluoro leader? Also what is the average depth under the pads you're punching? I'm usually in 4 fow or less.

I see you have the giant uprooted bogs too. I catch a lot of fish in and around those surfaced mudbog pits that smell like a rotten donkeys ass. Your water just seems to have more population of bucket mouths than mine.

you welcome man!!  punchin is just a smidgen shy of the rush i get froggin, atleast for me it is...but just know it can be frustrating as hell and losing big fish and/or good fish cuz they wrap you up and leave you with your flippin hook stuck in a pad stem can make a fella bout have an on the water melt down as the fish takes your soul with her...all i'm saying is be prepared, theres two sides to the punchin coin lol

well if all you have is a 3/4 you don't have much choice right now but its too light for pads or mats...you'll just have to pick your shots in the small openings in pads...snell your flippin hook and lightly peg your weight cuz you want it to slide semi easily so its kicks that hook up once you set it...

i punch with 3/4 for light veg but typical punchin is either a 1oz or 1.5oz...i use a 1.5oz for areas with heavy paddage and/or pads with alot of coontail underneath & mats...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i was out today on another lake i only hit maybe once a season...its one of those crazy recreational lakes whenever its nice out... its also probably the number 1 lake right around me that draws the most bassers so its really pressured with frequent tourny's on it as well...its one of a couple lakes i have a love/hate deal with...

it was a good day though got a bunch of fish with all of my 5 limit fish being over 3#'s...4.38, 4.05, 3.75 & two that weighed up 3.10...big fish was a punch fish, the others except one of the 3.10's were jig piggin docks, the other 3.10 was a crankin fish...

things didn't start off well though...the whole first half of my outing was awful, i missed alot of fish in the beginning...then after losing one big brute i had seen which came after all the other missed fish, i about had an on the water melt down myself...but i eventually got things turned around, made up for some lost ground and ended up having a solid day :)

Siebert Outdoors makes a very affordable and great tungsten punch skirt if you're looking for an actual skirted punch rig. I have the 1oz and 3/4oz. AWESOME product.

Have fun punchin'. It's addicting, I can't help but have my punching stuff ready at all times.

Frog Freak, besure to have 1oz'ers, its the one you will likely use most...but the 1.5ers are necessary for certain areas's/spots...i normally have 2 rods rigged, one with a 1oz & 1.5oz...each size from 3/4 up has their place & time  ;)

for sure, even if i'm not out primarily to punch you might come across that mat and if you don't have the flippin stick locked & loaded you gonna be SOL...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

A-Jay, its always a rush pulling fish out from docks, no doubt about it its a fun way to get'em!!  it was a nice change of pace yesterday as i haven't done alot of dock fishin this year yet, usually its the fall when i hit them hardest...but i'll never pass up a good looking dock...the heavy cover wasn't producing well except for aggravation so i went to plan B & C...

been a little tricky hittin docks this year here, we've had extreme high water conditions and either the gap underneath has been like an inch or two or none at all and the docks touching the water...just lately has the water come down enough to actually pitch a jig under, even so alot of the docks are still close to the water and i have to skip jigs under...

Good call, the stuff I'm thinking about is pretty thick so I thought I better go overboard with the weight. I'm sure I'll get more sizes as I explore the technique. I'll make sure and tell you guys how my first try punching goes this weekend. I have realistic expectations. Heck when I started frogging, I was terrible but I just stuck with it and now I catch more than I miss for sure.....but I still miss em. It's all good!

one thing i do like about the 1.5oz besides it doing it job punchin through is that i feel more connected with the rig in heavy stuff, especially when theres heavy coontail under the pads...the 1oz in heavier stuff the line will hang up/drags on veg besides the weight getting hung also...where the heavier weight, gravity takes effect, pulls it down through better and yoyo'ing the rig functions better...punchin is all reaction, if the line and/or weight hangs up it shoots novocaine into the presentation...

also my philosophy with punchin is that if i can't get through a spot, thats a potential missed fish...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Whats your thought on this fellas?  Saw this on a Facebook page today.  It's like a jika/frog rig for punching. This is what I call outside the box....or maybe it's old news and I'm a day late and a dollar short.

never seen them before mark...my first thought is not stream lined enough and hang up in veg time...be cleaning even more veg off of it also once you pull it out...maybe sparse pads or something with not alot of sub veg...but not something i'd be inclined to throw...if i was gonna do a frog deal, i'd just rig a plastic zoom or some paddle tail frog with the typical punch rigging...

I agree. I immediately thought to myself, that would collect an awful lot of garbage I don't want on my lure. It is a clever idea, maybe something to experiment with.

Apologies too Darryl, I don't want to stray off your reports page. Should have posted it in a different thread.

was out yesterday on a big lake i've never been on before that holds big fish but i sure in the hell couldn't get the big bite...keepers & shorts was the name of the game...big fish of the day was an okay 5.54# pikie on a crankbait but no vid of that one...

there was one stretch of pad fields i felt had the best potential but there was a huge border of heavy duty coontail topped with filamentous algae in front of them, even in my toon its work...since it was a new lake and a ton of water to cover for me in my toon ( i never did get around all of it) i didn't want to take the time & effort needed to navigate it this round...i more or less went around the lake pop shotting various spots to try to get a feel for the place & see as much as i could of it...so i never stayed in any one spot too long...

you can see how big the slop border was and the thinnest of it was by me where i was punchin a small corner i could get to relatively easily...which i got a couple fish out of and missed a couple...be better to hit that pad field earlier in the season before that sub veg and algae gets that far progressed...could of tried punchin the outer edges of the mats but wasn't in the mood to clean filamentous algae of my rig when it gets wrapped up like a mummy every single time...

81413slop.jpg

that day i tried out my hat cam i made because the way my toon is and currently set up to take vid that if i'm not basically stationary i'm not gettin vid pretty much...so when i'm out moving around working areas or have a wind factor, the hat cam is my only option right now...and its a bit of guess work to get the angle tilt on the camera just right...then i also got to try and train myself not to move my head around looking at crap as much, tough thing to do lol

heres a vid i took of the outing with most of the fish, its a compilation of real quick clips...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Dinks or not, still looked like a decent day. You sure got some great local fishing spots. Ever think about the chest mount for an alternative? Also didn't you just get a new GoPro black? If so you can use the app to help set your pov on the cam. Either way the clips still came out good. I was curious how your standard mounting was set up too. Got a pic of that?

I agree with MarkH, still a decent day with plenty of bites.

Some of your "average" days filled with 4 & 5 lb bass are banner days for me.

Also, it was a wake up call for me watching you flip those docks with your boat basically sitting right on top of them. It was a friendly reminder of just how clear and challenging flipping the water that I fish is.

I would have Zero chance of getting bit setting up that close. My version of that evolution must be from at least 30 feet away - think about that.  I've gotten very good at it, but still there are those days when the wind is up a bit, that putting my bait in a coffee cup sized spot from that distance is a win in itself - If I get bit it's a bonus  :laugh5:

btw - I haven't been able to figure out how / where to position my camera (other than on my head, which I do not like) on my vessel (canoe) for best shooting either.

there are some good lakes around here, just too bad the green goo gets so nasty on most of them...but i'm in the zone that runs from central Mn down about a couple hours south or so where i'm at that grows some of the biggest largies in the state for whatever reason...central Mn is where the current state record is held & my area where the previous state record was caught...probably in part that once you get above central mn into northern mn the growing season is even shorter...yet smallies up north get monstrous...

i have the chest harness but the problem is when you set the hook and fight the fish your torso will turn and everything goes out of frame, no good...

ya i got the black but i have a very cheap'o phone, like the cheapest phone one can buy lol...i can't even take pics with it, basic as basic can get...hell i'm not even sure the app would work on it, have to see...

my mounting for the camera is that i took one of the bases and stuck it to the top of my TM which is in the front of the toon since i reversed the head so its a bow mount etc...so when i'm stationary like in pads or anchored i just turn the TM towards the area i'm fishin like a swivel mount...so thats why it doesn't work if i'm on the go or using the TM to adjust position etc...

problem with say like a pole type deal is that my toon moves around alot and/or i do and fish at odd angles off the back, front, sides so theres just no good way i can figure out to be able to keep everything in frame all the time...

in spring and fall i can't get that up close & personal when the water is clear...its the only benefit to having green exorcist pea soup waters in the hot months is that i can really get in & do some close range combat  :Ninja1:

Nice vid a catch on the 2nd fish

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

headed out yesterday to repeat lake but boy the water quality sure took a turn for the worst since the last time i was there...nothing shocking about it because it normally gets horrible in summer, one of the worst actually...only reason it wasn't my last trip was because the below normal cooler wet season we've had helped keep it at bay some...

it wasn't a numbers day with only 8 fish toon'd but did alright on the quality with my 5 limit fish averaging just a tad over 3#'s, big fish of the day went 4.07...as you'll see in the vid i caught her out of some super funky frothy blue green algae dead veg foamy slop mat crap, just foul stuff  :puke1:

the 2nd fish in the vid i had a loop in my spool and it caught my thumb bar on my first crank so i went to a dead stop but atleast i was in close proximity to just drag her out...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks fellas!!~and to think that place is still not even as bad as it can get, usually its a spring/fall only lake...the algae is typically all encompassing and is like green cream on the top...its part of a chain of lakes and besides water quality issues in hot months it has an excellent ecosystem that grows quality fish of all species...in the fall when i start cranking this place during the feed bag follies one can really have some monster days out there...

fishing user avatarFrogFreak reply :

Ninja,

I tried some punching last weekend. I ordered some 1.5 ounce weights but the d**n USPS didn't deliver on time so I just had a 3/4 ounce weight. I didn't catch anything but I'm pretty sure I missed two bass. I'll try again this weekend some if the conditions are right. As you probably know, it was really windy up here around Park Rapids so boat positioning was a bear.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was gonna pm you & asked how it went, thanks for the report man...punchin is like anything, somedays ya bang'em somedays ya don't...but it being windy & with a lighter tung will definitely make it rough...like to hear how it rolls out when you get a proper condition day in...feel free to pm me or just post on this thread is fine as well...

fishing user avatarFrogFreak reply :

Yeah I know they're in there. That's why I'm excited about this technique. I'm going out to a kayak/canoe only access lake Saturday but it may be windy again. I'll probably use my homemade stakeout pole and try hammering them again. I'll post the results here for sure!

i have no doubts your gonna dig it!!  interesting rig man, i take it its pretty stable standing by design?  i just recently made a stake out for my toon also, woo wee what a simple pleasure that is cuz i absolutely hate anchoring unless i'm in open water workin some deeper stuff...

was out wednesday but my outing was a record for me, less than 2 hours...had some technical issues and had to go...but in that short span it was on with several fish over 3# and one of them being over 4#'s...it was prefrontal with storms making their way in, overcast with a few drips here & there...just one of those "the stars aligned" weatherwise days and boy was it difficult having to get off the water knowing...it could of been one of those monster days for big girls cuz they were in & game...all i was able to work is one stretch of docks in front of this campground...

heres a few of the better fish, big fish went 4.27#'s...

heres a vid with some of the fish from that short run...note on the first fish when i pull up the jig the boil behind it, i see that of course and pitch it back and get her...also don't pay any attention to that crap@ss pitch off the pontoon when i get the big fish, i just was ringing the dinner bell for her haha

(but i did go back there thursday to handle some unfinished business  :Ninja1:)

fishing user avatarFrogFreak reply :

Yep, it's called a Wavewalk Kayak and I can stand up and fish out of it. It's very stable. I've had it for about a year or so. I love using it to explore small lakes and get right in the pads.

Looks like you had a nice short outing. I should try jig fishing. I'd usually attack docks like that with a t-rigged worm or brush hog. Love those pre-front days. They seem to happen during the week when I have to be working though.

Is that a St. Croix Mojo Bass rod you're using?

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

good vids as usual Turds. Lets get some more top water frog action

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

FF, ya its the 7 6 mojo, its been a decent rod but plan on upgrading my bottom contact stick to something more sensitive...but i like it for other tasks so i'd definitely keep it and put it to other uses...i have a few dobs champs also and really liking that line so far...one of my flippin sticks is the 7 11 mojo (one of the few flippers thats a mod/fast) other is a champ, then my frog rod is a mojo also, i've beat the snot out of that thing...i will say that i've put them mojo's through the ringer and they are tough, never have worried about breaking one & trust me i've tested their mettle many times over...

I have 5 mojos myself. They're one of the best sticks in the $100 range I think. I have yet to have any problems and like you I put them to the test often. When I'm done buying diapers ill upgrade them and pass them down to my boys. I use all St. Croix rods.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i totally agree mark, someone wants a stick in that range that will do the job, hassle free and tough as crap, its hard to beat the mojo's imo...if i were to completely stay in that price range, i'd have no issues at all with stickin with that line...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

heres part 1 of the "Unfinished Business" outing the next day...it was a 32 fish day if i counted right...big fish of that day which is in part 2 went 4.23#'s...

but pay attention to the 2nd to last fish...i was in a tight spot & the canopy on that lift was hampering so a few seconds after i make the pitch i grab on to the lift to do some repositioning and my jig was just deadsticked/draggin on the bottom etc...and then i go to lift my rod tip and theres a fish, you'll see its was just a goofy situation lol

When I grow up I wanna be you! Hey I caught my first bass punching on Saturday! 2.5 pounder! It was awesome! I will say that 1.5 ounces was a bit heavy for the cover I was fishing. I had a Daiwa reel and a st.croix triumph MH rod. I'm with you guys. I love st.croix. I plan on making punching one of the 3-4 main techniques I use along w frogging, drop spotting and good ole t-rigging. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with all the different ways to catch Em and I decided to try as many as I could this year and stick with 3-4 that made sense for me and punching makes all kinds of sense. Thanks Ninja for helping me along!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

your welcome man & thanks for the good words frog freak, i appreciate it :)...thats awesome you got your first punch fish whoohoo!!  as i mentioned previously each size tung has its time/place and the 1ozers will be what you'll end up using most...i actually will have 2 rods set up for punchin, one has a 1oz & one with a 1.5...before veg gets heavy-heavy, i'll have a 3/4oz and a 1oz etc...theres a learning curve with it like any technique but you'll get it down...if i only had 1 rod dedicated for punchin, it'd have the 1oz on it...

but you need to look at gettin yourself a proper flippin stick...if ya like the mojo line get the 7 11 flip...its a solid rod and handles business, @ $130.00 its very reasonable...a buddy of mine has the powell max punch 806 and really likes it, $169.00 for that stick...not sure on your reel but one with solid lock down power is necessary...i use a curado 200 & 201 e7 that i upgraded with carbontex drag washers which i run dry...had a couple issues with'em slippin once in a great while before but not since the upgrade...

ya there is a thousand ways to skin a cat bassin...i've went through the days thinking i had to have a ton of lures and different plastics etc...but i keep it pretty simple these days...i have the x amount of techniques that i'm confident in and proficient at so for the most part i stick with them...the only new technique i'll be adding to my arsenal is deep cranking for next season...but like anything its a whole nother relm of crap i need to get to do it right...

fishing user avatarFrogFreak reply :

Yeah my rod box takes up to a 7 ft rod is all so I have that limitation and I do need to get a flipping reel. So much to get so little money!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Hi my name is Darryl and its been a long time since my last Froggin Anonymous meeting  :eyebrows:   ya its been abit since i've gone out inpart with the intent to do some froggin...was out 9/5 and it was a jig, spinnerbait & froggin day...37 fish tooned with the top 5 all over 3#'s with 2 being over 4... almost had top 10 all over 3# as well, had a bunch of fish weigh up over 2.90 but just a sliver under a legit 3#...big fishes of the day went 4.21 & 4.18#'s which were spinnerbait bass actually and will be on another vid when i get it done....cuz i separated just the froggin on one vid...

for the froggin part of the outing i was throwin a black ninja spro popper  :Ninja1:  the only way they wanted that popper was draggin it with pauses...went through the gamut of presentations with it but draggin was the key so thats what i stuck with...

Appreciate it Mark & A-Jay!!

A-Jay...good eye on why i was where i was...the hat cam with the vented back on, well it picks up sounds almost too well ie; gruntin :P...that water was 3/4ft and less i'm fishin....some of the spinnerbait water i was throwing out to was bout 5/6'ish...but the whole area is basically a big shallow bay that slowly transitions to somewhat deeper water, as in all of 10ft...with milfoil, coontail, grass and that naiad sub veg with filamentous snot thrown in for good measure…

Not hiding anything, thought you'd pick up on the obvious that i'm doing my best bassin impersonation version of Wilson from Home Improvement with the pics/vids   :eyebrows:

heres the spinnerbait portion which much of it is almost like topwater since i'm waking/buldging the spinnerbait the majority of the time, my favorite way to roll a spinnerbait...i only added one of the jig fish at the end, the best of that bunch...theres one sammy fish in there but as soon as i threw it it fouled out on some veg so i was trying to work the veg off and basically draggin it in and one smacked it...the vid is long at 11.21 minutes but theres good fish throughout the vid :)

I'm getting out this weekend, for only the second time in a month   :cry4: . It's been a crazy couple weeks and my fishing time been pretty strapped. After this weekend I won't see water again until October so I best make it count haha!  The GoPro will be rolling and hopefully the big fish wanna play. Keep us all posted on how things pan out for the fall feedbag!

fishing user avatarKyakR reply :

I've been loving this thread! The videos are inspiring. Mn too.....might like it better than Maine (oh no!) How much does your toon weigh? Beautiful rig

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks for the good words Kyak and glad your enjoying my season thread :)  Mn is a great state with tons of water to fish, several lifetimes worth...and if you include the mississippi river & its backwaters, well thats another lifetimes worth of water to learn & explore...theres always a pro & a con though...our short growing season doesn't grow monster largies but no end to the places to catch quality fish none the less, state record is 8.15...then there also some top notch smallmouth, walleye, muskie and pike fisheries here to...

my toon without the related gear & the removeable deck i made for it on, is probably only around 45#'s give or take with a 450# capacity...but its not how it came off the shelf though...i've done alot of customizing of it just for bassin...its funky but it functions excellent for what i do and my needs on the water  :Ninja1:

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i headed out on the 14th but one of my shorter days on the water...got a late start and then ended up gettin rained out, my fault i didn't pack the rain gear along....over all it was a crappy day weatherwise with experiencing a cold front & the rain on top of it...i stuck it out as long as i could take it until i was wet and chilled to the bone...

it was tough goings in the beginning, my day started off losing my first big largie (and 1st largie) on a spinnerbait...had her by the toon, my rod swept to the side and tip low but even so she went airborne and threw it, chunky fish...got a good look at her and confident that was a 4 something fish...not a good way to start the day...

then later in the day i was pitching a laydown and one of those spots its either your gonna get a fish or get hung up...pitched it in the danger zone and felt that thump, set the hook, get her up and she to goes airborne with some violent shakes and that slab of blubber waves bye bye as well, that was my other & last opportunity for a 4 something...it was one of those situations i had to keep the rod tip high and power that fish up and out so i definitely assisted her going airborne, there was no other choice though...sweeping the rod like i usually do would of about guaranteed a wrap up in this particular spot...ya win some & ya lose some, but still irritates me none the less...

it was a multi species day with 15 fish tooned, some pike, a eater eye that i released & the largies of course...fish caught crankin, spinnerbaitin and jiggin...still managed a couple big girls with big fish of the day being 3.81#'s...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Change your screen name to Linda Blair because you're always in the middle of that pea soup vomit water. LOL.  Nice fish again man, congrats.  It's near impossible to throw a spinner bait up in the northern states without getting pike slimers all over them.  I honestly don't even fish spinner baits as much anymore simply because of that fact. They just get destroyed by pike.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

haha ya the goo is bad in my parts and just think, its been one of the best years ever for it being at its most minimal...

spinnerbaits and me have i should say a tolerate/hate deal...i grew up throwin a white spinnerbait & white buzzbait for a million and 1 casts...i will NEVER throw an all white spinnberbait/buzz again...there has been many years that went by where i never threw a spinnerbait of any color even once with the flashbacks n all lol...i just recently started throwing them again but almost always buldging them since its like topwater basically & not a white one either ;)

i just bought a booyah "pikee" spinnerbait thats got heavier duty wire on it to try cuz ya the run of the mill ones get mangled and a pain to try to get them to run true again...would of gotten the terminator titanium to try but didn't have the color i want on the shelf...but if this pikee booyah doesn't make the cut then i'll order the terminator i want and see how it holds up to the toothy ones and/or bowfin that wreak havoc on them also worse then pike...

Nice work man.

I'm in the same situation here with spinner baits getting mangled.

Try the Strike King Hack Attack Heavy Cover Spinner bait.

The split rings that holds the swivel and the blade get upgraded on mine.

Other wise, a Very stout bait all around.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Was out on 9/18, high temps around 82 after a cold front passed though the days before…pretty windy out there but even so stayed on the windward banks and plugged along, payoff is always worth the hassle dealing with the wind…

Picked up 15 fish, jiggin, spinnerbait’n and did a little punchin but didn’t put too much time into it…the way the day was the fish were out and about but I wanted to check one high potential spot to see if some monsters were under there…picked up one fish and lost 1 but they weren’t the big blubbers…but ya can really kill a lot of time punchin easily, so I made sure I didn’t over commit to it, just short & sweet…

I focused on pitchin and tossin that spinnerbait…again the same m.o with buldging it along emergent veg edges and over sub veg…

But heading back in I HAD to stop at this wind blown cattail island…seen a big group of cattails leaning over/bent over the water making a nice lil canopy…knew there had to be a fish under there…pitched that jig in the money zone and out pops a 4.18#...should of headed in earlier to spend more time on that island but the sun was dropping fast and I was out of town…with it getting fall, I don’t like traveling country roads around sunset/dark cuz of deer movement...

Mr. A-Jay thanks for the mention on that hack attack…I used that pikee booyah, it’s a solid spinnerbait as well after using it that day…it held up great without dorking out after a handful of fish…BUT i was going from point A-B in the toon on speed 5 with the 55# TM…and said what the hell, tossed the spinnerbait about 30ft back or so, not far…tip low low to the water so it wouldn’t pop out and was burnin that mother…well sure’nuff within a mere seconds after trollin, mr pikie hammered it and stole it lol…not like I didn’t know what was gonna happen speed trollin a spinnerbait...

Hey Mark when the vid gets to the punchin part & seein as you love the green goo goblins…turn up the volume and listen close to the sound as that tungsten hits the sewage, sounds like a turd droppin in some syrup haha

Heres the better fish of the day, 4.18 & some of the weighed 3+#ers…

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks Mr Jay!!  i live to fish man, if i can swing it to get out, i'm out...fall is creeping in so the big season finally is gonna be happening soon...if i could softwater fish all year round, i'd "maybe" spread things out a lil bit more...but the minnesota bassin season days are always numbered and the clock is winding down...my season goal is gettin that 6er thats eluded me thus far this year, i gotta get her bagged before time runs out...

i did have the problem with the bigger net scenerio when i pitchin docks last fall on a muskie lake...pitched the jig up under, felt a light bump, set the hook and the fish didn't move, i was like this is a goodun...then out from under the dock i see as the water separates of its back, a solid muskie...i got it toon'd amazingly by hand as some people tearing down a dock watched...no length, weight or pic on it but i guesstimate it was around a 30# fish, one of my catches of a life time considering the situation...this old dude on shore was like, you need a bigger boat lol

fishing user avatarpitchin fool reply :

Now that I am back on line it was nice to read up and re live all the times I was sittin here wishin I was out with ya.  It is sad that we have only got out twice this year, but there will be more for sure this fall.  I like how people following this thread get to see the toon and realize what a sweet little fishing vessel it is.  I think some people are starting to secretly save their change and buy one this winter!!!  There is something that is missing....a river excursion.  Pretty sad that we haven't hit that together this year also :(

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

good to see ya back on the interwebs Mr P!!  find that time brudda and you know we'll get on'em, always do ;)  of course you gotta make sure you pick a day that has 20+ winds and/or cold rain while buckin the bering sea or it just wouldn't be proper right? lol  hopefully next season conditions will be more conducive for the river tours, thats been a real bummer...

Well I was out on 9/21, on the same lake as the previous outing…I never care for hittin the same place back to back…but the wind direction was different and wanted to explore some different spots on the lake & hit that cattail island thoroughly…

being a nice sunny Saturday I have a lot of company out there and the glass boats were circling that island like playing follow the leader…so I decided to wait till later on in the day but watched my time so I could give it a good once over…

Started out spinnerbaitin some shallow sub grass on the windward banks and picked up a few there…thinking back now I should of stayed on them but I kept moving instead…

Then hit some wind blown docks and pulled out on 3.35# and from on then headed to the punchin patch…I dedicated much more time on it this time and picked up a few in that garbage patch, but still not the slobbers known to hang in there…

Then finally I hit that island at the end of the day without others around it…concentrated on the same edge as before that i got the other 4#er from which had the sun casting a shadow and some deeper water butting up to that side of the cattails…made the pitch in a shadow, felt the bump, set the hook and there was my big fish of the day, no question another 4+ fish and as I was leading her around the toon as I do, POOF she comes unbuttoned…I was none to happy and I’m sure most anyone around could hear me throwin a fit on the water…I regrouped the best I could and continued down the line & turned around and pitched it going the other direction to hit some different angles & pockets but no more takers…that was it & my only opportunity of the day for that solid slab of blubber, i lost this round…

big fish of the day...

Well Mr A-Jay your premonition was spot on sir…was out on a 438 acre lake that’s 1 part of 4 that chain together…these lakes see alot of bassin pressure & tourneys are often held on them…So I was pitchin docks again and BAM pulled out a 6.72# & got that 6er I’ve been chasing all this season bagged WHOOHOO!!…mission accomplished, right??

BUT then shortly after that I pitch a dock by this point, last dock of them all, feel that bump, set the hook, then that monster breaks the surface and I knew she was special when I seen her…I net that slab of blubber with a quickness and she weighs up a WHOPPING 7.56#’s!!!!  That is my all time personal best, I couldn’t “insert many expletives” believe it!!

To put that 7.56# in perspective, its only bout 1.4#'s under the current Mn state record @ 8.15#…I highly doubt I'll ever top this fish but if not i'm perfectly okay with that...This was a very very significant fish many may not realize for my waters, once in a lifetime lottery winning kind of fish…

Two Fantastic Bass right there.

The writing was on the wall man.

You were fishing in the right places, at the right times, with the right bait & tackle and perhaps most importantly, with the Right Frame of Mind and Attitude (which is often overlook).

Great Videos - I especially LOVE the Sound of the fight.

The distinct difference between the surface splash of a 3-4 pound fish and the Deep Powerful Tail-Swoosh of those two BEASTS; It's almost Scary.

Certainly gets the blood pumping.

Good For You.

Now if I could just figure out how to call a shot like that for myself  . . . . . . .

btw - in the BR state vs state your 7.56 girl would be 92.76 % and would be a shoe-in to walk away with the title.

Man it's good to see after all this work you put in, can't even call it work because fishing is a passion, you finally net that fish of a lifetime! Wis she came on a frog though lol. Man those are some nice looking bass, can't believe that it is less than 1lb off the state record, you know her older sisters are swimming around with her now the record is in there!

Again man thanks for the constant videos and pictures it keeps myself and other entertained and we appreciate it.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks for all the good words fellas!! its been alot of time & effort on the water which has finally paid off after all the years...like you said a-jay, i was in the right place at the right time, picked the right dock, with the right bait & pitched it into the right spot ='s the stars aligned for me and i got her...

gotta correct my math on it though...which i'll be the first to admit my math skills suck...my scale weighs digital pounds so the 7.56#'s basically which converts to a 7.8oz fish and the record is again is 8.15oz which makes it nearly 9#'s...so it'd be around 1.4#'s shy?

Hey Bud, I really want to be clear here, The right place, right time, right bait statement was in no way meant to mean that the only reason you got those fish was because "you were Lucky".

That is NOT What I mean at all.  I was recognizing that through your dedication and efforts, you have been able to pattern your home waters well enough to put yourself into prime waters and a at prime time.

Some call it - the spot on the spot - or in your case -  the right docks amongst many.

And as for doubting that you'll ever top that fish, and being OK with it.

You know there were some trials and tribulations endured along the path this season leading up to that faithful day when you bagged those two great fish.  And I'm betting you would never trade that in journey.

So now you've started a new one - and the only way to find out where it will lead - is to live it.

A-Jay

My MN brother! Look what you went a did, big CONGRATS man! Wow I can't even imagine what was going through your head after landing that 7.56 beast! Glad you had the GoPro running and could share the sweet ride bud, it sure gets my blood pumping.

was out last week on 10/2 with a buddy on a 646 acre lake...well we get to the lake and that wind was considerably more than the forecast stated, it was more around 15-20mph's blowin right down the pipe...some big whitecap chop out there with those battering sustained winds that beat you up by the end of the day...which is more apparent in the latter part of the vid & always much worse in person bobbin like a cork...

anyways we set out intending to focus on blown banks & docks but it was overtime so we went to the more manageable leeward areas we could find at first...later on we did fish down the blown line...we picked up 20+ fish on a variety of baits-cranks, spinnerbait, jigs & hollowbody swimbaits...

its a big fish lake and were hoping to slay more fall piggies of course but the winds for one made for a definite wrench in the works for us out there...regardless it was a solid day on the water & we always have a goodtime whenever we get the opportunity to roll out...

what the hat/hatcam sits on is a gopro mount and some of the other joining pieces when i actually had the camera mounted there...so i just left it on and then do the quick switcheroo...the clamp holds the hat cam/camera centered & secure while the middle of the brim of the hat rests on the TM handle, a bit hokey but it works =)

It really puts an emphasis on what kind of weird weather year we have been having!  Between the totally soaked spring/early summer, to the drought like late summer/early fall, constant high winds, and now the down pours when it does rain....CRAZY!!  Glad you got out, though.  I was debating and then grabbed the forged metals instead and hit the course.  Shot pretty good too, so a good day!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

me thinks golf'n is chipping away too much into fishin there mr p   :eyebrows:

was out yesterday on a 1,519 acre lake...i've only hit this lake once before and was primarily on one side of it thats almost like another whole lake since its pinches in the middle with having an east & west side...last time i was on the west, this time on the east that i never seen much of...i wanted to make sure i could get around the thing in this outing to learn it some...so the theme of the day was "stick & move, stick & move" pitchin the jig...i didn't want to commit to any technique that would plant my @ss too long in any one area...but if i had gone back today i would of attacked it differently in a couple ways from what i learned of the lake...

it was both a good day & a bit crappy at the same time...when i first got out there was atleast a minute amount of rip here & there in spots on the water but then the conditions went to pretty much glass & blue birdie, man i hate that combo...the bottom line is that it was actually toooooooooo nice of a day...ended up toon'n ironically the same as my last outing with 25 fish...should be a healthy population of blubbers in there but i'm 2 for 2 with not finding them in this lake...but there was enough decent fish throughout the day to keep it fun & had consistent action when including the fish caught and those that got away...

few of the better fish...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

my jig combo & is in fact the only combo i've been using for the past 2 years i named & refer to it as The Ugly Pig...its an Outkast R.T Black & Blue with a Havoc Pit Boss, specifically the Big Texan...reason i call it the ugly pig is because the jig being black & blue and the coloration of the big texan with its burnt orange looking belly and flappers doesn't match at all and is a fugly as hell combo lol

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Well it works clearly. Thanks for sharing. I just got some black n blue jigs from Siebert. Maybe ill try to mimick it on my waters and see how it does.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

give it a shot mark & hope it produces for ya...i also use the 1/2oz, for one its got the 5/0 mustad which i prefer then i like the faster drop/reaction and having solid bottom contact...i'm sure you've noticed as well but i hop hop hop that jig right along pretty fast which i can visualize making nice disturbances coupled with working the jig faster like that ='s reaction...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

was out today on a 1,511 acre lake fighting some brutal winds on the main lake body especially...wasn't so bad at first but really ramped up...rough goings working up the one side it was ripping down but i had to do what i had to do which equaled = cuss alot & fish it...

was a bit shorter day for me @ 5 hrs with 18 feed baggers tooned...mostly jiggin wood and a few docks that were left yet there...1 fish came off a swimbait but i didn't throw it that much...big fish of the day went 4.87#'s & 4.56#'s...but there were other good fish as well...

the second 4.56er came from a dock but once again i forgot to turn the camera on, the fish is shown in the vid but just not the catch...par for the course for me & the gopro...i don't like leaving it just run because then it gets hard to find the fish in the vid...so after i release each fish i turn it off so then i can go to the end of the individual file footage and find the catches easier...but then it leaves that lil issue of remembering to turn it back on once i start fishin again, derr lol

the 2nd fish in the vid it appears that i make the short pitch at nothing but there was a branch on the bottom & a fish...

better gals of the day...4.87 on top, 4.56 below it then a 3.79# & 3.28#

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

appreciate it Grizz!!

Was out yesterday and was another one of those too nice of days again…one being Sunday/weekend & bluebird with winds less than 5…so I knew there would be a fair share of folks out even at this time of year…

This place is one of my typically summer only lakes but wanted to change things up some…still planned on pitchin the jig of course but I also had wanted to spend more time throwin the swimbait through pad remnants…but unfortunately most of those areas had a lot of floating sub grass & milfoil all inundated which was foul out city no matter what moving bait ya throw…the grass just wraps up constantly & easily…but one area was clear of it and that’s where I was able to stick some fish and missed several on the swimbait…

ended up with 19 fish…this lake isn’t a big fish lake but has a solid average population of 2# to upper 3# class fish…getting a 4#er in this lake is very rare…but since the overall average is decent for my waters it makes it a worth while fun place to fish, especially for heavy cover in summer months…

some of the better fish...

then i added this one that had an old injury that looks like it probably got whacked by a prop...

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

There's that jig again! :-) great video once again. Solid bass all day long there.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks mark!!  i sure do love my ugly pig lol =)

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

nice bass!! goota love that blue works like a charm!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Was out today and froze my anus off…I was not prepared for how cold it turned out to be…I really struggled all day and that cold got into my bones hard…i had fishin gloves but they got wet and my hands started to fail me...

I was struggling to pitch and even reel the fish in at times since my hands were gimped out & didn’t want to function too well…but I stuck it out and it was tough to do so, a real mental thing to keep pushing forward…i fish in much colder weather up to hardwater but just the difference with not being prepared properly...

it just was worse than I expected with the temps, wind and chill…had to retreat to leeward only areas...our weather has been so wacky that it hasn’t given much for acclimation time…the last 5% of the day it got a lil better when the sun finally made brief appearances but too little too late deal there…

Ended up with 22 fish with big fish of the day @ 3-14oz…mostly jiggin again but fish were caught on swimbaits and cranks also…

next weeks weather is horrible with a high of only 32 one day & some snow on others, much too soon =(  i'll pin that on Mark since he talked about winterizing his boat :P

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

forecast is lookin a tad bit better and not so cold for next week but still showing some snow overnight one day, just not ready for the inevitable...last year which was a freak season where my last day was december 2nd...highly doubt that'll happen this year but usually fishing november isn't an issue...

nahh you just got the bad crap out of the way 1st thing ;)....get on'em up there brother & look forward to your report when ya get back!!

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Haven't stopped in here but you've been slaying the fish as usual. 22 fish is putting in work with the jig, crank, and swim BUT

where's my frogs man? Lol

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

unfortunately AK, froggin days is over in Mn for the season til spring, i know it sucks man =(  all the emergent veg is pretty much toast, shallow sub veg is dead & dying back, water temps have dropped alot and thats how the season rolls out here in the northern territory...BUT i promise you next spring, it'll be back ON!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Was out today, much better weather for sure…had an excellent bonus day, seen the white bass were bustin bait fish so I switched gears and got on’em…ended up getting 14 whities and a few eyes in the mix…been a while since I got into them like that…not all lakes have them here but a fair share around me do…

Their a cool fish, smack stuff & good fighters, i call them a poor mans smallie…whities love to chase so burnin baits is key...was throwing a rapala ssr7 and they destroyed it, literally...its goes in the garbage now...their best on UL/spinning gear but it was fun getting them on the dobyns 702c with the core 51...i'll post the vid when i get it done of them...

29 fish total & the 2 big largies of the day went 4.87#’s & 4.71#’s…

fishing user avatarmnbassman23 reply :

Well done man! It's been some tough conditions up here lately with the crazy weather, couple of good days on the water you had.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Finally had a doable day today, haven’t been out since the last time I posted…its was a blistering 54 degrees lol but 10-25mph with 30 gusts =’d leeward side for me...this is a big lake @ 1357 acres so it can get really crappy when winds get kickin…

heres a day I was on it last fall season with 45mph gusts, I was having fun with it and was literally surfing with my toon on the big rollers...the picture doesn't quite capture how bad it truly was...it was the worst i've ever been in with the toon...but i fished in it til i had enough, was pretty tough to stand...

beringsea.JPG

otherwise the weather lately has been miserably cold, rain/sleet and even some snowflakes…temps in my area had been 10-15 degrees below normal…should be around 50’ish degrees but it has been like 35-40 with freezing temps overnight…really making the water temps drop =(

Was a 17 fish day with fish caught on cranks, hollowbody swimbaits & jig…all big fish were jig fish…top 5 went 5.04#’s, 4.73, 4.07, 3.37 & 3.28#'s…

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

You da man Darryl!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks fella's days are really numbered now...

i don't have anything to take temps so i looks at local reports to get the gist of them in the area...still can be quite different results on various waters but the range i'm seein is around 47-50...lowest i've seen was a local shallow lake that had 44 degrees 3 days ago...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Was out today on the same lake, late fall i don't travel as much and just have my select few i rehit…pretty decent day in the low 50’s & the wind was more cooperative…was out 5 hours again & tooned a 12pk with the top 5 fish running 5.37#’s, 4.54, 3.39, 3.30 & 2.82#’s…

Big fish was on the jig & the 4.54# was on a 3.5” hollowbody swimbait that she just smoked…

then the 2nd fish in the vid, when i got it up and had a look it had some light braid line with 3 hooks on it...one hook in the top of its gut, one hook with the line all boogered up in the gills and the other portion of the line was sticking out through the gills and gill plate with a hook...i was able to clean the mess up and get the hook out of its throat cleanly as well...illegal rig for our waters, can only have 1 hook per line...i guess it was its lucky day for that bass to be caught...

Glad you could fix that bass, doc!  Hopefully next week pans out weather wise, cause it doesn't like I can get out til then.  Here's to hopin'!!!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

keep me posted when you can roll, windows shuttin my friend...ya that bass had a mess going on with it, i'll catch it again when it grows up =)

I was out today & actually put the jig rod down...i got a late start because it originally said thunderstorms/rain 80%...but my gut said it was good to go...so it was a short run at a little over 4hrs but all 18 fish were actually caught in 3hrs along one stretch where they were stacked...i was striking out in a couple other areas where nobody was home & i couldn't buy a bite...so i made a sharp right turn and headed for an area i knew had a bunch of rock...sure'nuff they where there, love it when a plan comes together...

I started throwin a shallow rap & got a bunch then went back down the line again but threw a fat rap for my second pass...just slow rolling it and boppin it off those rocks...

all of the first vid is the shad rap then all but the first fish in the 2nd vid is the fat rap...

big bonus of the day was when i hooked up with a nice gator, it was a fun ride on the dobs 702c & core 51...and A-Jay your other premonition about needing a bigger net came to fruition, you'll see  :laugh5:

top 5 largies went 3.48#'s, 3.13, 3.06, 3.04 & 2.95#'s...

Yup - I have an average "Bass" sized net but after doing the same thing a few times - I was forced into purchasing an over-sized "Multi-species" net just for those sporadic encounters with thrashing submarines.

Sometimes a man has got to do, what a man has got to do.

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Nice gator there buddy! Did you get a chance to measure? Looked about 33-35"?  Can't believe it stayed buttoned up with all this rolls and flip flops out of the net.  And you and I were just talking about the season coming to close and you go smash bass and a big ass water wolf!  If only they were ALL like that size and not the 18-22" that dismantle every lure in the box, lol.  Great job again, killer year for you Darryl!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

no i didn't measure it but it was definitely one of the better ones i've gotten in a long while...when i was younger bigger gators were much more common...too many people here like to spear and/or catch and pickle them good ones  :rolleyes7:  which as you know it takes many many years to replace that big pike...

if those had been the stock hooks the results would of probably been different...that rap though was toast afterwards and goes into the garbage...then after i got it aboard the fiasco wasn't done of course, there was more chaos to be had before it was over...

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Man nice fish and videos Turds as usual. That's a nice looking pike!

yea man I use to live in NJ so the winter is when you gotta put the stuff away here in FL nope.

Was that the biggest pike you caught? I have never caught a pike before only big pickerel back in NJ

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

15.5 which is a good pike but not the beasts then can be...the mississippi river here has some real monsters in it...if i was big into pike, theres much better odds on the river & backwaters gettin quality big pike then the lakes around here....i say that only due to the pressure on pike on area lakes, takes along time to grow them big and too many get taken out vs the river being such a massive system that they have alot of water to hide in...a river rat i know this spring on the sippi got a measured 42"er which would put it around the low 20#  range, thats a good fish...

fishing user avatarpitchin fool reply :

Dude, that was some funny s4!t right there!!!  If I woulda been there with you, you know I wouldn't have been any help.  Just a lot of noise as I laugh and laugh and laugh!!  We will find that day that we can go...I don't care if I have to have the bibs on, I am gonna get a feed bag day yet!

I don't have to worry though, cause as long as you are fishing, the lakes will be on FIRE!!! ha ha ha!!

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

awesome pics man.. nice catching!!!  I need to get on that fall cranking..!!

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

Mr P~bibs, a polar bear parka & seal skin gloves may be in order the way this weather has been behaving...hell, i'd fully expect anyone around to be rollin at that goofy @ss fishin blooper bumblin blunder of mine lol...but no doubt i had to keep it in & now i can always look back at myself being a dorkfisher  :laugh5:

Appreciate it Griz,  that fall crankin boy when its on its on, SON!!  its definitely a must for anyone doing late fall bassin =)

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

Ive been catching them on cranks,  but its more of a putt putt putt kinda of deal..  I broke out my  red and organe traps/ cranks.. hopefully I get on some more fish! how long caan you normally  fish before the place is iced over?

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

this year we've been below normal and seemingly hardwater may come early...i got maybe a couple more weeks left, 3 if i'm lucky...everything rides on the weather & water temps...fortunately one lake in my area is the very last to lock up for whatever reason of any...last year we had a freak warm season and not the norm by any means...but my last day was december 2nd, i really don't see that happening this year though...

i'll keep swinging to the bitter end though ;)

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

Yeah that's about the time for me too last year I was fishing on xmas eve tho.. like you said it all depends but normally im not fishing mid-to late December..  the past week its been in the low 30;s and 29 one night.. tonight its 63..  we will see

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

went back to the same place today but even a shorter outing...windier then all hell out there beating that bank i got'em on before but the bite was certainly not the same...always seems though when you get on them well once in a spot, its not easily repeated the 2nd time around...then with the wind direction change i don't think that helped matters either...water temps on this lake today was 42 degrees...

i really didn't want to go back there but with up to 20mph primarily north winds etc...the other big lakes i would of rather went, all the good fish spots would of been a helluva lot worse to fish with the winds...i knew the winds would be bad even on this place but its a much much smaller lake so it'd be less problematic compared...after being out on this one today i'm glad i didn't go to the others cuz i would have just been very irritated the whole time...

only 6 fish today but atleast half were big girls over 3# with big fish 3.74#'s...heres the few better fish from the day...i like this first fish, just a nice fat bellied fall butter ball thats gotten on the feed well, my kinda gal...i should have turned her to show it better...all fish today were fat rappers bumpin rocks...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks Mr J!!...i was throwin the oldie but a goodie rapala fat rap in crawdad pattern, thats what all came off of...all the while keeping contact with the rocks...some fish came from slow rollin it while boppin it along but the biggest fish of the day i was burnin the hell out of it meth head style just machine gunning it on the rocks...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thanks ak!!  you mean my tactical under cover special forces covert ops 007 ninja toon?  :eyebrows:

was out yesterday at a different lake and picked up 8 fish...managed just 1 fish over 3 @ 3.24#'s...had several good fish i seen clearly follow my crank all the way to the toon but just not committing...tried jiggin shallow wood but nobody was home...i moved out crankin over some deeper sub veg and i'd pick up a fish here & there kinda deal...missed and lost a few in the 1000 casts plus 1 for the day...at this point in the season, i'm just happy to still be gettin some fish before the lakes lock up...fish caught on the shad rap, scatter rap & fat rap...fat rap got the big fish of the day again...first time throwin the scatter rap yesterday as well and picked up a few on it...think its a solid fall bait also, should of tried it a lil earlier in the feed bag season though to give it a good testing...

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

its not over til its over folks!!...was able to get out today for 4.5hrs, haven’t been out since my last report…cold November day around mid/upper 30’s with wind chill and had some braid icing up at moments…picked up 15 fish with 6 going over 3#’s…top 6 went = 4.51#’s, 3.59, 3.37, 3.30, 3.26 & 3.17#’s…fish caught crankin & draggin a jig (brown pattern/natural) through dead clumps of mainly curly pond weed, which slowly draggin a jig is an utterly painful technique for me to do…big fish was on the jig & 2nd best was on the crank…

really sucks how short the days are now with sunset at 4:51pm today...i get on the water generally a bit later to let things warm up some and its just hit it hard for the small window i got because before ya know it its time to head in to get back by dark, sucks =(  the forecast coming up is just gettin worse & worse, seasons gonna end prematurely i believe...but i'll keep swinging till i can't float my toon anymore...

heres the top 5 fish of the day...that 3rd pic/fish down had been caught atleast a couple times before by the old obvious signs, so that makes it for sure 3x with me gettin it lol

was able to get out yesterday on a not so fine november rainy windy day...there was frequent on & off rain coupled with the wind made things rough on the water...picked up 6 fish and barely inked out a 5 fish limit worth, just one fish was a dink...all fish were crankbaiters, interestingly i couldn't get 1 jig fish and i tried to get that big bite but for whatever reason couldn't do it...

by the way the forecast is looking i may have 2 outings left next week of the typical season to get on the water...then a few inches of snow is in the forecast at the end of next week with winter cold temps following around 28'ish degrees as highs...unless some freak warm temps move in shortly thereafter...highly doubtful though but i'll finish this thread through till the bitter end...

Heres the pics of the 7#er and the 6#er on the bottom…
