Enjoy your trip Welds, I am heading out to Glades this morning in a little while, I will give you a heads up on how I did.

fishing user avatarBassObsessed reply :

Good luck down there. You have a nice variety of baits to use. Don't worry about the reel. Iv'e caught bass up to 10lbs on a spinning reel like that throwing big Huddleston Swimbaits.

Why? I use 1000FI models for bass fishing.

Caught quite a few bass over 6 pounds on

them. They are extremely capable reels.

And good luck, Weld! Catch some beasties.

fishing user avatarOntarioFishingGuy reply :

Good luck on that 7 pounder this time! Nice reel too.

I use a 1000 for bass but not for jigs, chatterbaits, frogs, swimbaits, etc. Not saying that it can't be done, just not what I would do. Hooksets would be my main concern unless it's on a MH or H

Hey! Bit of a late update, very busy day...

Bit of a brief update too, sorry, its getting late, been trying to upload my fooatage... gotta wake up tomorrow for sunrise fishing again :eyebrows:

I had great success in the morning and in the evening. I have footage of all the fish I caught, I am working on two videos currently. My computer has been giving me difficulties tonight, so I will upload the videos tomorrow.

Here is what I caught today and on what lure:

The reel isn't the issue it's the rod.  Right now here in South Florida there is a lot of sea lettuce, 2 days ago this canal was wide open and I was using nothing but exposed hooks, not the case yesterday.  I normally fish a ml, yesterday I had to fish med spinning, glad I had it with me.  This stuff can get pretty thick, yes the bass fishing was quite good yesterday.

I did get one on the River2Sea S Waver, its a glide/swimbait, so it counts lol

The 168 definitely counts and it murders them once you learn the bait.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Even though I live in the area I never fish golf courses. just not around before the golfers get there, but today was different.  I didn't go out to the ocean this morning fished a golf pond at sunrise instead, caught several real nice bass on top water.  That is not the interesting part, what made this day good was I caught peacocks.  I haven't seen peas in West Delray in 5 years, I was surprised.  I caught them right near where Welds fishes in a canal.  I stopped at an area of a canal that I had never been before, caught a few decent bass then I caught a pea.  Had a couple of other hits that I'm sure were peas, too much debris in the water so I moved.  Same canal 1/2 mile away, first cast was pea than a few more.  In total caught about 7 or 8, not big but with peas there always can be a larger one around.  Bite stopped and that was that.

fishing user avatarBammerBass reply :

No offense but those 15-17" bass sound a bit underweight for their length. Muat have been somenskinny ones.

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

Great evening today! The big ones were 5lb 2oz and 3lb 8oz. Caught them on a new plastic also. The Big Bite Baits 4" Kriet Kreature.. I already am in love. Bought for $1.48 for a pack of 10 on tackle warehouse. They still are $1.48, you guys better buy them quick because i am buying them out of stock :eyebrows: .

I rigged it on a 4/o gamakatsu ewg worm hook, and a 3/8 oz tungsten bullet weight. I cast it out, let it sink, jig it up, let it sink, jig it up, and repeat. Bounced it off the bottom and the fish could not resist it for a second. I intially started fishing with soft plastic swim baits and spinnerbaits but the bass kept swiping and grabbing the back end. I do have a trailer hook on my spinnerbait but i think they were just hitting the blades or something because i had no hookups. Once i switched to the Kriet Kreature, things changed, the bass were eating them.

I also have a story that makes me cringe and makes me really mad. While fishing today i came across a grandfather and his grandson fishing with their walmart combo rod and a walmart shad swimbait thing. So the boy hooked into a nice fat bass, probably about 3 lbs or so, and when he pulled it to shore he asked his grandfather to get the fish, and the grandfather said "just lift it by the line" the boy hesitated and said he didnt want to hurt the fish, but grandpa insisted. So the boy begins to lift the poor fish by the monofilament line and SNAP the line breaks and the fish swims away with a swimbait in his mouth. This made me soooo mad i was going to say something to the grandfather but i felt like its not my place... UGH i was so mad and i still am....I wanted to take that stupid walmart combo and snap it in two, and then give the old man a lecture on how to properly treat fish... lol I was very unhappy.

Anyways here's the video of this evening!

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

Yesterday I was struggling to figure out what they really wanted, until i tied on a zoom fat albert grub, that i had bought last winter on clearance at DSG but had never used before. Caught a total of 14 bass, including a 4lber (which i sadly did not get on video). I am now obsessed with grubs

Had a great day fishing today however!

Got an amazing topwater blowup on a heddon baby torpedo! I love the sound of a topwater blowup!

A bunch of other bass were caught on spinnerbaits, inline spinners, lipless cranks and some other enticing lures. The bass were chasing bait in this one cove it was crazy! Fished with MIBassin again, great to have a fishing buddy, and he caught a florida gar too. He also hooked into a possible DD gar but it came off :( it was at least 3 feet long and FAT.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

All ponds may be created equal down here but they may not stay that way.  I have 6 ponds in my community, 5 of them used to be excellent when I first moved in.  Several years ago the county of Palm Beach forced my community to purchase reclaimed water instead of relying on rainwater.  That was the begining of the end, the fishing has ever been the same since this program was started, additionally the HOA is weed spray crazy.  The times I venture to other communities as I did this week I can really see the difference, caught quite a few quality bass as of late.

I have a golf course that I can walk to, fished it several times and have never had a strike over the years.  This past week I fished a couple of golf courses in Boca, WOW is all I can say.

I've met a few people that live in a community not to far from where Weld fishes, they have a fishing platform and stock the pond with bait fish.  I have heard some incredible fish being caught there.  Last week while I was fishing I met fellow that lives in my area, his lake can't be fished from shore so he says, too much shoreline vegetation, he does have a jon boat and invited me, this could be some major fun.

It isn't worth the trouble.

I try not to go where I'm not wanted, residential single home and condo communities are places where the residents complain, rental apartments seem to be much less of a problem.  I found a nice apartment pond yesterday, actually a friend told me about it.
