I feel beyond blessed to have caught the fish of a lifetime today. This is why I fish, and it makes all those days of bad weather and bad fishing worth it. She weighed 10 lbs. 1 oz. on the tournament scale at weigh in and on the scale in our boat. This is a day that I will remember for the rest of my life!
Congrats on the new PB. Give us more details. We want to hear the whole story. Lake,Lure, rod, reel, line and how it jumped 15 times and almost got wrapped in the trolling motor! Lol.
Congrats again! Beautiful fish!

Thanks Jeff! It was on Pickwick Lake, I was throwing an a-rig on a 7'6" heavy/modfast Tigerodz custom rod and Shimano Curado 200G6 with 25 lb. P-Line CXX. I set the hook and it felt like a stump for a couple seconds then it took off. We have a bunch of saltwater stripe (average about 20 lb) here so I really thought that's what it was when it started fighting but after about 10 seconds or so she came to the top and never jumped, then my partner netted her. Personally I am glad she didn't jump so she wouldn't throw the hook.
What a hawg!!
DD's are really special fish. Congratulations on a really special trophy.

Awesome! I consider Pickwick my home lake. Not many DD's come out of there each year, and I have't come close there! HAHA! Congrats!
Jeff
Nice, Congratulations on an amazing catch!

Yeah I won big bass...by 5 ounces haha. Bass like this are not pulled out of Pickwick hardly ever, especially in tournaments. Thanks everyone for all the congratulations!!
That is a PIG! Beautiful coloration as well. Congrats! What a nice Christmas gift landing a DDPB!!!
And you didn't catch her in practice! lol
Way to go and good to see a Pickwick Hogg.
Pete
Congratulations! Is it going to get mounted?
Beautiful!!! What a lunker!
Now its my turn for a DD

Many pictures were taken to get all the distinct features of the fish and also a bunch of measurements were taken to get a replica mount made. I couldn't kill her, she is too beautiful. I'll let someone else catch her in a few years if she ever bites again!
very nice fish man! is that a little snow on the banks in the background?
Just think of it, most men fish their entire lives and do not catch a five-pound bass, let alone a ten-pounder. You are now in a very elite group of people. If I were in your shoes, I could die happy. One of the last items on my bucket list is a DD. I've come close, but still no cigar. CONGRATULATIONS!

Exactly how it should be done. It's taken that fish a long time to grow that big. Who knows you might catch it again in a few years and break your Pb once more. Congrats!

Well, we have had more DDs reported in the last three years than in the entire history of the the lake.
There was an 11+ caught at Second Creek last spring. The guy caught her prefishing on Friday and
as luck would have it, again on Saturday for the win!
Most if not all of these Walmart Girls have been caught on the Alabama Rig. My theory is that these
bass have never been caught and were "uncatchable". Florida strain have been know to avoid artificial
lures, especially as they get older. This has not been generally observed in northern strain populations,
but here in the Mid South we don't expect many 10 lb bass!
The A-Rig is simply irresistable. A school of baitfish swimming in front of a bass triggers the fish's natural
instinct to strike. Three years ago I was staying with a couple of guys from our local Bass Pro Shops, but
fishing with my buddy, Speedy Madewell. That weekend both of these guys and another friend fishing out
of the same boat ALL caught their first DD, fishing The Rig.

WTG on the new PB! That is really a nice looking fish.
Saw that fish on FB yesterday (Oliver posted it up).
That thing is a stud man!
Outstanding ! Congrats on the DD and new PB. And that is a GREAT photo...
Didn't this fish bump up your PB by a couple pounds?

That's a HUGE jump. OK - here's hoping your next PB also jumps up by 3-11 !

Haha thanks! If it does then it will be close to a lake record!
JG, You are THE MAN.
As soon as I looked at your 10.1 pounder, I knew there was hardly any doubt that she would be a double digit. The give away to me, is the length and thickness of the Bass' Tail. That's where the big ones carry a lot of their weight.
Spectacular!
Congrats. Looking to get a replica mount??

Yep! Have all of the measurements and pictures and I am going to call the taxidermy after Christmas to get it started!!!
We want measurements too. How long. Girth. Man that is a drop dead gorgeous specimen. Lake Fork Taxidermy. Fish Scale Taxidermy. Very impressed with what I see on Facebook with Anglers Choice Replicas. Good luck. We want to see the replica when you get it back! Sorry to be a pain, but this is the time to brag and show off. LOL Massive increase in PB weights.
PS, saw that Anglers Choice Replicas prices are going up Jan 1.
Guessing here...... 24.5 inches long with a 21 inch girth........ Please do tell! The coloration is so pretty. Lake Fork matched my sons up pretty well. FWIW
Nice, mounting it?

amazing fish, there may not be many of them caught there but I bet there are plenty of them there. that's an awefully big river. I had a conversation with Roger Stegall earlier this year and he said they had a lot of big fish weigh in at tournaments.

The lake is full of 5 and 6 pounders. I mean you can find schools with 20+ 4-5 pounders in the summer. There are a lot of big fish weighed in in the 6-7 pound range but not a lot 8 or above. I fish a tournament at least twice a month against most of the best fisherman on Pickwick and I have seen three fish over 9 lbs be weighed in this whole year and two of them were this summer during the FLW Tour event on Pickwick and the other was during a BFL on Pickwick. I'm not bragging at all because catching a fish like I did is pretty much right bait, right place, and right time. I'm just pointing out that the "a lot of big fish" that Roger Stegall is referring to are more in the 6-8 lb. range.
I remember him saying he themes in fish in the 10 to 12 pound range weighed in at tournaments. and of course there was that 14+ pounder that would have been the new Tennessee state record caught a few years ago in Tennessee waters on Pickwick

If Roger is talking 10 to 12 pounders, he was talking smallmouth. We've got moderators here that have seen 10 pounders and even seen world records on their line. There have been multiple world record smallmouth caught and released out of Pickwick. In one tournament last march a 12 pound 3 ounce bronzeback caught but was foul hooked, so it was released. That had to hurt, but he did the right thing.
The OP is talking largemouth. They don't get as big as smallmouths typically, due to the stout current on Pickwick but it is full of 5-7 pounder largemouth. Over 8 is a super stout largemouth at Pickwick. 10 pounders are in there though, just like all the other Tennessee River lakes.
no, he was talking about largemouth. I've called him a couple of times trying to book a trip during the Primo smallmouth the season and we talked fishing in general on Pickwick. I have fished picwick many many times I have family that live in the area and rest assured I know the difference between a small mouth in a large mouth. I would like to see some photographs of these giant smallmouth that you were talking to people nonchalantly throwing back world record fish. You still have not accounted for the 14 plus pounder that was caught in Tennessee waters on Pickwick and was released because the angler did not want to kill it. This fish was posted all over the *** website etc etc
I think the 14 lb story turned out to be bogus. As I recall, the fish was not weighed.
The best documented story in recent years was 11.83 pounds caught pre-fishing
Friday and again the following day: http://www.thefishingwire.com/story/281402
This is my story about "The One That Got Away"
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/68635-huge-disappointment/
the 14 pound largemouth was weighed just not on certified scales

Until there is some evidence to substantiate your comments I have a very hard time believing your comments. There has been no evidence of a recent 10 lb smallmouth caught in the last ten years. If you have any proof I would love to see it.
I don't want to come off as contradictory here but; in the last couple of years, there have been several DD bass come out of the TN river chain. Almost all of them, including the supposed 14lber, we're caught on the Alabama Rig. Reports from the 14lber coming on a spinnerbait were false.
I have not heard of a 8 lb or bigger smallie out of a TN River chain in many years. Just doesn't happen. Roger, nor anyone from his guide service, have caught a 8 lb smallie or bigger, or a DD largemouth. I confirmed this with one of his guides.
I am as big a fan of Pickwick and the TN River chain as the next guy, but let's not go spewing around stories we have heard with no proof.
Jeff
PS- congrats again on your DD. It is quite the accomplishment, and that is what I was trying to get at here in my little tirade!
Fish stories to people who come across as dismissive to the OP? Well, they are OK. LOL I am sure 10 pound Pickwick largemouth are jumping in Rogers boat though. He probably told Dead River. LOL
Sure Pickwick had a run with the newly arrived ARig. That said, if you have a largemouth over 8 pounds there, you really have something. The OP is right.
I'm sure DR can pull out plenty of double digits though. As mentioned, it is a big river, unless you are fishing on a weekend and every known structure has a tournament boat or fun fishing boat on it. LOL
Congrats on an awesome catch
Awesome fish. This is what I'm hunting for is a DD
That's a great looking fish!!
Congrats
Wow! Not only did you catch the fish of a lifetime but you also produced an excellent photograph of the fish.
I know of a few fisherman that never take a pic of there fish. They do use scales, but these fisherman enjoy the battle. Land the fish, then weight that fish and turn it back into the same waters it was caught in. As for 8 lb smallmouth you can rest assured there's lots of them here above and below Pickwick dam.
I have caught one 8 lb but I have not in a long time. I know there has been a few that big or bigger on my line. As for Double Digit large mouth, would have to go back through the books. But I know there was more then a dozen weighted in last winter in small Tournaments here on the Tn end of Pickwick. All off Al rigs and weighted in. Same as the 14 lb fish, I have known the guy that owned the boat it was caught in. And he tells me the sky if falling I going to be hunting a place to hide. Ray has never had a reason to tell a Lie about anything. Great guy for sure. And have fished with him also.
Pete
Thats a nice photo.. Id have it framed .
