**VIDEO # 20** Oh man, what can I say 2024

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

I'm like GIDDY right now. Another banner day for Dirk and I today.

Big fish went 5.2 with plenty of other beauties willing to get into it with us.

RW_ This song isn't country but I thought of you as you seem to have an affliction for women with this type of voice. Hope you enjoy.

VIDEO # 20 IS HERE

F9 for full screen and turn it up!!

ENJOY!!!

Another great video, way to go. ;D There is no fishing going on in SE North Carolina it israining and the wind is blowing. Weather forced a local King Mackeral tourney to be postponed due to high seas.  :'(

Heavy rain

30-50 mph wind

Nice video, enjoyed it!

fishing user avatarTroutfisher reply :

Another trademark LBH video...keep hanging the fish!  ;)

They are predicting 25 mph winds here in WV along with possible snow?  Good day for fishing!

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

GOOD GRAVY, do you have a salt-lick on the bottom, or what?

Even that yellow perch is an eye-popper!!

Russ, is that your kistler rod that you're using?

Roger

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

Sick vid Russ.  Where is the litte red boat the could?  I love that part where you double up.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

No Roger, the Kistler went for a dip, never to return. I was actually on the bow "scoping" today with the water getting clearer and clearer now. The rod is in about 23 ft . My buddy actually went and scuba dove for it for me but the hydrilla and algea bloom at the time made it a tough venture. He got to see lots of big fish though!!

I am going to have Fletchero build me the replacement. Those rods we are using there are Spidershaft rods. Not made anymore. Made originally by Mitchell for Spider. Retailed arund $59. Very comfortable rod.

Hmmph...I'm almost sorry I brought it up.

This winter after the hydrilla dies back, maybe you can fashion a grappling hook and try to dredge her up.

Sidenote- This song was chosen as a tribute to a good friend of mine.  The singer is my ex g/f from college, trying to make it in the music biz.  Still unsigned, this song is an indie.

Song is called "Arrow" by Non-Fiction for the couple folks who asked via PM.

fishing user avatarnboucher reply :

Russ, you still using primarily jigs and cranks? Or was this another live shiner trip?

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Looked like he was still "cheating". ;D  If I can't figure things out today, I might try to cheat next week.

Another great one!! ;)

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

LBH's TV series  :)

Great video again!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Hey LBH, those are some absolutely beautiful Northerns you got there..... And the video quality is outstanding ! I'm sure you have already answered this, but what kind of video camera are you using ? That thing does an awesome job !

Geeez, how I would love to have some video footage of some Cali giants...... but 1) I have no idea where I could find a camera man who wanted to tag along with me for 10 hour trip, after 10 hour trip.... and maybe not getting any usable footage, for 1 or 2, or heck, even 5 or more trips in a row ! (except maybe for like the fill in, scenery type of stuff)...... and 2) having a camera guy looking over my shoulder all day would throw me off so bad, I'd have no fun fishing whatsoever, and would probably 'never' stick a pig worth filming.

I did see some 'self taken video' from one So Cal big bass guy (who BTW, always fishes by himself, and pretty much throws nothing but the Hud), who had like a wide angle camera, way on the other end of his boat, which he just ran constantly, all day, every day, then, every hour or two, he would simply clear the memory, and start it again. When he finally got one, he would put that memory card aside, and start with a fresh one.

He had several 15 lb plus Bass on video. I think I saw those on a private forum..... But if I can find them anywhere publicly, I will post some links.

Again, your vids look fantastic !

Keep after em' !

Fish

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

FC- Are you talking about Butch Brown?  I have links to his vids if needed.  Hawg_Hunter was the first to do it, that I had seen and shortly after, I saw Butch Brown's videos .

I use a Fujifilm s5600.  It's a straight up 6mp digi cam with a video setting.  I have a 1 gig card and on the highest resolution, it gives me almost 15 minutes of filming.  That's alot.  Before this, (before sept, when I bought the big card) all those vids were made of compilations that came off a 1min 51 sec card!! lol.  Now the vids are getting better because 15 mins gives us basically unlimited time when you film in the style we do.  Which brings me to your point.

Eric is my fishing partner and I am his.  One is not the "cameraman" while the other fishes.  We just fish and the moment you have a bite you let the other guy know.  We are gettting pretty good at reaction times now that we have a full season of it under our belt.  The camera just sits in the bag with the top open , in between both of us.  Depending on the bait, there are different "lead times".  ex.  a senko, when the line shoots out, you can let the other guy know.  He gets the camera and presses play as you are reeling down on 'em and then you get the hookset on film.  For Hud's you'll miss the hookset but get all of the fight, all of the landing, all of the hootin and hollerin', the weigh in and the release.  This can be done alone!!

You'll notice in many of my videos , I am alone.  I simply sit the camera on the rear seat and point it forward.  After I get a good hookset, reach over and press play and you're in the game.  There are better set-ups to mount the camera also.

Hawg_Hunter (Darrin) took B. Browns idea 1 step further.  He bought a hard drive movie camera and built a mount (works in a machine shop) to accept the piece you screw into bottom of camera for tripod and then the other end fits his pedestal pole.  So the pedestal pole is his tripod.  Very secure and he can actually film every minute of every trip w/digital hard drive memory.

Now if you're boat isn't set up where you can forfeit the rear seat, you fabricate a mount somewhere else,....like in the stern corner,..makes it more of a wide angle.

Back to the camera

Another guy, the director for BASS Youth in RI is an electronics/computer/gadget junkie and has shopped out the cameras hard.  He has bought 3 and never been satisfied with the quality from any of them.  3 different brands too.

He still has 2 that work fine but bother him because of quality and when he 1st saw my videos, he instantly asked what I was using.  When he heard it was a reg camera, he flipped out.  Bought one immediately, the next one up from mine.  Absolutely loves it.  Just for the record, I was so happy with this camera, I bought another one when my first one died (wouldn't power up).  Now I have 2.

If you look up the specs, I believe this line is actually slightly better than anything in it's price category, strictly by specs, not "usability" etc (although this camera has extremely user friendly menus and functions).  Plain as day, right there in writing that it "should' have better quality than the others.  First time I've ever seen this actually be the case.  I usually see that as spec manipulation.  make yours slightly better, even if it's really not and nobody can "tell" the difference but will buy that item over the next one based on the numbers.

BTW- I believe this camera still retails for UNDER $300.  Like $259 I think.  Amazing.

fishing user avatarCyBasser reply :

Another two beautiful videos Russ! Great job - and the indie song is really nice too...

I now know what my next electronic gadget will be.... ;) ...a digital video camera!

By the way, you should consider coming over to Cyprus for a video! What do you think ::)??

Fuel up the jet and get clearing to land at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, RI,USA.   It's 5 minutes from my house, call before you leave and I'll be there.  I'll be the one on the tarmack with the rod tube, passport and camera.

fishing user avatarrocknfish9001 reply :

I must say that the clear water makes for some BEAUTIFUL fish. I noticed that when i fish on clearer lakes all the fish including pike, 'gills, and perch are colored better. Looks like our fall has been more brutal then yours. Its cloudy, windy, and rainy almost every day. And not to mention cold! Looks like your using shiners and jigs, right?

We'll see what we can do... I am an air traffic controller ;)

fishing user avatarsodaksker reply :

Russ, thanks for another nice video.

One thing I did notice was how fast and furious you were reeling to take up the slack on that one hookset.   That is one of the reasons I forced myself to use a baitcaster.  Inches per turn.  The highest IPT on spinning that I could find was 12-17 inches.  When using a baitcaster that has 26-28 IPT you sure can pick that slack up a lot quicker. ;)

Fork might be a good place to hone your bc skills ;)

fishing user avatarDirk_Jig---Lure reply :

I got this one,lol.

The reason we use spinning gear at that place is because over the years, we have learned that "the long cast gets the bass".  We have lightened the lines and lengthened the rods.  When we first started at that lake we were both strong Baitcasters.  That's pretty much all we did.  As we progressed through the stages, we learned that the fish we want, are NOT on the banks.

Open water fishing, lighter lines, longer casts, resulted in bigger, better bass.

I have fished clubs but Russ hasn't.  As a team, we fished the Clear Water Challenge for 2 yrs and our technics and tactics that we had devoloped at our home lake paid off like nothing I've ever participated in event-wise.

We converted quite a few baitcasters when it comes to clear water.

This is nothing new.  West coast has been doing this for years.

As for that particular fish, we had doubles going.  He actually hooked first and said get the camera but i couldn't because I was also getting ready to say the same thing so he opened his bail and filmed me 1st.  Hence all the make-up when I finally landed mine and he was able to pass the camera and get to his rod.

This makes a huge chance of losing a fish but we were doing well and the fun of a double is always worth it.  Especially live bait fishing.  We have had more "fun" fishing in the last few weeks than in a looong time.  That's what it's all about,,right???

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

[Open water fishing, lighter lines, longer casts, resulted in bigger, better bass.]

I find that to be the case for bass fishing in general, but I can't emphasize that statement enough as it pertains to smallmouth bass. Get off the bank! Focus on structure in deeper water and current. Buy the biggest baits you can find, big bass like it "super sized".

fishing user avatarsodaksker reply :

Touche'

Somehow I knew I was putting my foot in my mouth. ;)

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

No,no,no.  Dirk was over here when he was on the board and I know he didn't want to sound that way.   He was just explaining for me because I have been asked "Why do you only use spinning gear" about 20 times! lol.

He certainly didn't mean to sound confrontive, just informative. ;)

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

Russ

Those are amazing catches any time, and very nearly anyplace. Some of the Cali guys and a few of the Deep South guys may have water that can produce bigger fish in greater numbers, but your last couple of videos show largemouth fishing that is for most of us, as good as it gets.

RoLo mentioned a "salt lick" I was thinking BGH (Bass Growth Hormones) Your not "Juicing" are you? ;) ;D Just kidding. :D Great video-thanks for sharing.

fishing user avatarGAMEOVER reply :

Out of all the ones I saw from you I liked this one the best, nice fish.. was that a Perch at the end didnt? Didnt get a good look at it but if it was man that was big.

Yes, we nicknamed the perch Gorge, a play on George, lol.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

that's an i303, special one.  I can use ship to shore to hail my buddies on the bay ;)

Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Extremely durable, water resistant, etc.  I hate the small phones, dialing them drives me nuts, lol.

The GPS has also come in handy.

fishing user avatarTom Bass reply :

That is a great video. Thanks....I must admit, I'm getting a complex....I did catch two nice bass shore fishing with buzz baits this past Saturday, but my luck in my boat has been bad.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

LBH, I watch your videos and I can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said.  You should be doing a fishing show.  ;)  I did think of one thing.  On your next video, what do you think about showing the less experienced anglers how you pinpointed the deep structure or cover on your fish finder, and how you positioned the boat relative to that structure?  It would be like a mini fishing show and it could help a lot of the guys on the forum since locating the fish is the biggest hurdle that any angler faces.

Just an idea.  Great video and beautiful, beautiful fish.
