I am skeptical that this fish is 8 pounds
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it appears to be around 18in. and in the 4lb. catagory. Nice fish though. What'd you get her on. Looks like you were fishing from the bank.

Ouch!!!! I would say a little bigger maybe 5 or 6
Always hard to tell in pictures but I would say 5 or 6 as well.

Uhhh! Yelp
What did your scale say? For less that $4 everybody should have one! My guess would be 4-5 lbs.

Once you weigh 'em, they stop growing.
I should probably get a scale like the one that weighed that bass, since it's so generous weighing bass.In all seriousness that bass appears to be 4-5 pounds at most, not 8 pounds.

Aint that the truth! That's why it's always a good idea to carry a tape measure and a accurate scale.
NO, NO, NO scale. In my mind, my PB can be whatever weight I want it to be. It all depends who I'm talking too and how many drinks I've had. If I'd weighed it, I'd have to tell the truth. This way it isn't a lie because I don't know for sure how big it was.
I wonder how many people that claim to have caught 8-10 pounders have actually held a bass this size in their hands.Fish of this size are usually 24-28" long and look more like a freshwater version of a grouper than a typical bass.

Lol
No disrespect but that fish might still be on menu for an 8lb bass.

Exactly. There is no greater memory than the first time you see a bass that size surface, mouth wide open, shaking their head to try & spit out your lure. I tell people that I take out fishing that I am looking forward to seeing the look on their face when they see that. It will make even the most soft-spoken, church goer let out a "Holy S*** !!"
In the 4lb. category.
Yes.
It's an 8 pounder ~ In Training.
A-Jay
Yes! But only if Bill Dance caught it on TV.
No matter what it weighs, that's a "dang nice bass".

Pushing 5. Good fish
Around 5 is my best guess.
Just tell everybody you caught one under 8 lbs .

I'd say your skepticism is justified. IMO it will possibly push 6 but I'd be inclined to to guess it's probably closer to 5,
I know what he's getting at. somebody catching a fish in his local waters and coming out with a big claim. it's obviously not him.
Id say 5 lbs. b4 a big turd
Can't tell for sure if this is a "full grown" adult or a youth (though I can guess it's the latter). This would help provide some scale. I'd have to say... 4 to 5 lbs. Not much larger.
Around 5 probably. Still nice, nevertheless.
Reminds me of a couple weekends back, when I had just parked my truck and trailer at Raystown early in the morning, and was walking down to my waiting boat, eager to get to my down lake spots while the topwater bite was still on, and catch some fish before the 4th of July whacko crowd showed up. Sure enough, a guy in a VW beetle pulled up, and started telling me how he was fishing live shiners from shore the night before, and caught two bass over 12 pounds. I started saying "Wow really? Sounds real nice" just trying to get him to end the conversation so I could start my day. In my mind, I'm thinking "either youre full of BS, your scale is majorly malfunctioning, or you need to call up the fish warden ASAP, since you just may have tied or broke the state record twice in one night."
Are you 6'4", 240?
Gotta learn to stick those arms out before asking "What's she weigh?"
I'm in agreement in the 4.5-5 lb range. Any fish over 5lbs will look huge to the naked eye but once you get it on a scale you'll be surprised at how much lighter it ends up being compared to what your eyes are telling you. Remember that even the pros on the Elite series catch hundreds if not thousands of fish each and every tournament and the big bass of the tournament will often be under 7 lbs. An 8lb fish is a BIG F'ING FISH that you'll probably think to yourself you just caught your first DD.

Lol
I had always figured I had caught 3 bass in the 8.5 to 9 pound range before I got a scale...then I caught a 9 pounder and realized I've only caught 1, and it wasn't from before I had a scale.
YOLOF, I think you have your answer! There are many fishermen who will insist that size fish is 7 or 8 pounds. Don't be that guy. It's a nice bass in most waters. Buy a decent scale and it won't take long and you will know within a few ounces what a fish weighs, before you weigh it. I will warn you that it will sting a bit when those 8 pounders only weigh 5, and some of your friends will not be happy with you. It will ultimately make you a better fisherman. Good luck.

This is another very popular approach. I've used it myself...

Exactly!
Toledo Bend has a 14" minimum, I can tell you if it keeps before ya boat it!
Nice bass no doubt!

When it comes to bass fishing nothing compares to landing a huge bucketmouth bass!
an accurate scale will humble your A $$.

Yes,weighing bass on a scale is quite the humbling experience. Same thing happened to me when I started bass fishing long time ago.The long, skinny bass are the hardest ones to get a accurate estimate on,that's why it's best to always carry a accurate scale!

I don't have one...don't need one. Don't care what they weigh...
This fish weighed 1 oz shy of 8lbs.

So... you are just trying to learn to guess better???
Every bass angler has fishing line so use it to measure your bass.
Lay the bass down flat, close it's mouth and run the the from the closed mouth to the end of the tail, cut to that length. Next run another piece of line around the Basscat the widest area and cut it off, then tie a over hand knot in that piece of line. Wrap both pieces around your hand and save them.
When you get home measure the pieces of line, length and girth ( the piece with the knot).
Length X Length X Girth divided by 1200 = weight in pounds for LMB within 10%.
Tom
PS average girth to length is about 75% if you don't have a girth measurement. Girth varies, length doesn't. Average girth bass 23.5" long weighs about 8 lbs.

Nah, I just don't care what they weigh.
There's big fish, medium fish, small fish....every once in a while I'll measure one...but I don't even do that often.
im goin with around five maybe. Did u catch it in that little creek behind you?

Papa,
I laughed out loud on that one.
Thanks, hookset
an old gent told me this years ago; 95% of all 5 pound bass aren't.
it was a person that i saw posted this picture on social media, the person claimed it was 8 pounds, but i was skeptical. none the less it is a good fish!
7.51 pounds
7.76
It's a very good looking fish, but I don't believe it's 8 pounds.
I always go with - the bass weighs whatever the guy who caught it says it weighs - unless there is money on the line

You could put your fist in it's mouth so it is at least 5lbs.

at least ...
if it is a kid, then i am thinking 4.5 to 5 pounds. Saw my neice holding up a 4.15 the other day that looked like the Minnesota state record largemouth bass. If it is someone 5'10 ish or taller, i think it is a 6 pounder. Imagine that fish at full arm extension, hand fits in the mouth, thick and wide belly. Thing is give or take 6 pounds.
yeah i don't think its 8 pounds, i wasn't there though

Highly accurate measure of weight right there...

I share your doubts, but I've aged past the point where I can muster any outrage....there was a time, however.....
Looks like a 4lber
All of you are crazy... That bass is 23.1 pounds, give or take a tenth of an ounce. I caught one even bigger once, it was 32 pounds!
It a dang pretty fish and has some mass too . It might go 5 .
