Had some time this morning before my boys baseball tournament. Hit up the creek, took my dog with me, stayed for about an hour. No action...
Headed to ball field...laid the smack down today. Boys won the tourney, and got some sweet revenge.
Headed back to the creek about 6, stayed for about an hour or more. Caught a nice sub 2#er on a blue and black 4" yum dinger.
Glad I went back, was bored sitting at the house...and really did not feel like doing yard work.
Have the day off tomorrow, but forecast says rain all day and night here. Maybe catch up on my dvr shows.
I hit the creek up yesterday. With all the snow melting the water was cold and stained. I was lucky to pull this ~2 lber out of a lay down with a jig.I'm going out tonight to see if I can pull one out of the local city lake.
My wife got her pb in a small creek today! Caught on a 3/8 oz white and gold spinnerbait, I didn't have the scales so I don't have a wieght. You can't really tell how fat it was because of the angle, but she had a belly on her haha
Nice fish! Tater, is your son trying to get his dip out of your wife's pocket? LOL
Jeff
Hahaha I didn't notice that till now! I think he was trying to push her out the way so he could grab the pole and catch him one!
went today after work. With all the rain lately from the north and west, creek was WAY up and running hard. Decided to stay awhile, some peace and quiet.
No action today. The big'uns are moving up in the local lakes...good reports of 5-8# fish being caught in the past few days. Hurry up weekend! I am ready.
I'm going this weekend. Water should clear up a lot more by then. I'd hit up the lake, but the boat is in need of some TLC, so the creek it is.
Hit up the creek again about 3pm.
Tried tossing a new shakey head with a watermelon trick worm. Nothing. Water was still high, but lower than the other day.
Tied on a weighted trigged blue colored yum dinger, 5" First cast, got nailed. Pulled in another sub 2# spot.
My boy went with me, he was in the truck, playing on the phone. As soon as he saw that fish, he decided it was time to make some casts.
Nothing more today, headed out to the lake tomorrow...more 4-7# fish being caught, along with an 11+ yesterday.
Spring has sprung in NW Fl and LA (lower Alabama for you yankees).
Hit up the creek today after work for about an hour.
3 bass. One spot came undone as I was flippin' him onto shore..
t-rigged black/blue yum dinger, green pumpkin baby zoom lizard, missile baits dbomb(dookie brown).
There is one spot on this point with some branches/logs about 2' deep, I get hung up and broke off so much...gotta be $25 worth of tungsten weights down there, lol
Whatever it takes, right? Had a good time, peace and quiet, a few fish.
There are some pretty awesome creeks by me that have relatively clear water. During the summer i take 1 rod and a book bag of lures and wade about 4 miles down the creek before i call it quits. Its a blast being able to see the fish like that.
Stopped by a little "pond" (marshy, high water due to rain) on my way back home from work today.
I keep a flimsy 2 piece 20 year old ugly stick behind seat in my work van(shhhh). It's really too flimsy for anything, but I did not bring my other stuff.
Anyway, had been eyeballing this spot for years, decided to stop. Threw a 7" blue bruiser worm, 2nd cast I get hit..came undone, this rod stinks for trying to set a hook,
Kept throwing, the lily pads are everywhere now. After a few, switched to a craw, felt like brim pecking at it...Nothing else.
Switched to roboworm on shakey head...finally got that little sucker...not a bass but a big green sunfish. Considered it a success and got back on the road home.
Anyone have some recommendation on a decent "travel rod"...I do bring one of my good rods and reel when I know I am going back in the bama sticks, and know I will have time to wet a line.
Got home today from our trip to Port St. Joe
Had a good time. Everything unloaded, decided to hit up the creek.
Throwing some craw thing that was loose in my bag of junk I take to the creek.
He swiped it and got hooked in the throat, poor guy, he swam off fine.
Had another follower, all the way up to the bank...After a few break offs from the logs, I left.
Walked down the creek a bit, as far as I could...threw a dark trick worm, got bit immediately, in the water, right in front of me is a couple of downed trees or big branches...I was reeling her in, she did not jump, but swirled on top, went down and got tied up in those branches. Let the bail loose for awhile, she did try to swim away, but could not get the line unwrapped...Had to break her off. Hope she got unwrapped. Pretty good day, weather was high 70's and 5-10mph winds.
Got broke off again on that dang log in my spot...and headed home.
2 quick creek trips this week. The high water has fallen to normal, went Tuesday and today after work. Nothing, not even a bite.
Our rivers and creeks have been up too high. I've been hitting up ponds instead. About to hit up Table Rock here in a week or two.
Went today after work, one dink and a 2lb spot. Rage lizard and rodent.
Decided to NOT make the 2 hour drive to mississippi, weather forecast said 10mph winds...did not feel like leaving @ 4am to deal with the wind today, although, he was wrong, and I should have gone...hit up the creek up the street and caught this porky little spot on a dbomb. After several break offs, I headed home.
Hit up the creek after work. Bubblegum trick worm was not working. Went to junebug rage lizard. After a missed bite, landed a 4lb bowfin. A little warm after work, hitting 85, headed home to do some pressure washing.
Caught more fish on these rage lizards than the zoom lizards...zooms last longer, and you get more bait for your buck, but the rage are fish catchers!
Hit up the creek after work today, brought my youngest daughter.
She got bit, yanked and lost it, I had my line about 10 feet from hers, 2 seconds later, had to be the same fish, bit mine, landed a 5lb bowfin. She was thrilled, she took 1/2 credit, and that's fine with me.
black and blue berkely powerbait lizard
Hit up the creek this evening. Had some rain lately. Creek was higher than usual. Decided to tie on a spinnerbait, started down the little trail next to the creek, had to step through some brush to get around the water, as I stepped over I saw something move between my feet... uh-oh.
3' water moccasin was right between my legs, slithering away from me into the brush. If he was not slithering, I never would have seen him.
I watched him for a second frozen in fear, thinking, why don't I bring a gun when I go to the creek? So he slipped next to some scrub, I slowly walked back to the clearing and watched. He gave me the heebie jeebies. Thank the Lord I did not have my kids with me.
Threw out my spinnerbait a few times and landed a little spot. Threw about a dozen more times, looking at the ground all around me, then headed home.
This cottonmouth was not dark, but dingy fall leaf colored with that unmistakable head and tail.
Just an FYI, you guys and gals be careful, look where you are walking, and be safe!
Hit up a creek in bama today on way home from work. Water clarity was mid/good, despite the recent rains. Everything is "growed" up all around, could hear the gators humming not too far away, no otters today. Threw a t-rigged rodent for about 30 minutes, not even a nibble. Saw several big swirls, probably bowfin.
Thought I could get lucky, but no dice today.
Hit up the creek with my youngest daughter this evening. Caught a hawg bowfin in the first 2 minutes. Threw our lizards for about another 1/2 hour.
Both of us got hung up and broke off. Decided to head home, momma had dinner ready. At least we did not get skunked.
Always a good day with my little one.
I don't know about you guys, but I am going all in on swing jigs.
Hit up the creek after work. Started with a tube trig with trokar tube hook, got a gnarly hit, seen him swirl up top, tried to stick'em...duh, forgot to tighten up my drag, lost him. Got hung up and broke off, went to a green pumpkin zoom worm(old reliable), threw up to opposite side of creek on the bank, soon as it dropped in bam, thought it was a bowfin it pulled so hard, then it jumped once. Bass have been scarce at the creek the past almost 2 months.
Got it in to take a pic...then set it free to grow bigger. A solid 2.5 # Biggest bass yet out of the creek.
went out today around 6. Been cloudy all day, temps were in the mid-low 80's today, was kind of nice.
Took my little girl with me, she hooked up on a nice bowfin on a zoom lizard, Dad got skunked. She had to call everyone on the way home.
She is something else.
I love this thread. What kind of bass are these in your creek? Ozark? They don't appear to be largemouths
Spots and a few largemouth. Water is still clear and getting clearer.
WE hardly have ANY water in our creeks right now.
Nice catches. some of my most productive days are at the local creek. Up here, we have Smallies in our creek. Never saw a LMB in it. Always go creek fishing with several Rebel Wee Craws and a few Marabou jigs. Our Smallies love those two lures.
Hit up the creek twice today. About 10:30 this morning...nothing.
Went back up after dinner around 7:00pm. Stayed about a 1/2 hour, finally hooked one, saw some minnows scampering, threw the rage lizard on a swing jig, boom. Got dark, went home.
I caught this poor gal last weekend, she hit a popper first thing in the morning and didn't even put up a fight. It was a long fish with a big head (I was able to fit my fist in its mouth) but it was horribly skinny. I have never seen such a skinny bass, I didn't have my scales on me but I highly doubt she was over 1.5 lbs.
caught a few skinny ones myself lately. I'm guessing the heat might have something to do with it...?
Hit it up this evening. Tied on a swing jig with a d bomb. 2nd cast got a bite...a little too much set in the hookset, came back with nuthin...
no other action.
Went up today around 5pm. Not much action for awhile. Got hung up/broke off, switch to the structure bug, reeld all the way in, was sitting in the water in from of me...saw a bass honed in on it right at the shore and BAM, hit it like a freight train, and spit it out, watched it in slow-mo. Threw some more, got hung up and broke off again, tied on a white spinnerbait, this time a big ole bowfin hit it, landed it, he got hooked through the bottom jaw...he ended up flippin' himself off the hook, tossed him back and headed home with a victory. Better than doing yard work.
Hit up the creek this week. Caught a decent sized bowfin on a black berkley power bait worm.
Nothing else the past couple trips, thought I saw a big sucker fish today in front of me sucking up mud...
Threw lizards and some other stuff. nothing. Was hoping the bass would have moved up into the creeks...no bass for awhile.
windy around 10-15 mph, sunny and 70 degrees. Headed home to do "chores".
Hit up the creek a few times this week. Lost a decent one the other day....hit it up this morning, caught a dink chain pickerel, must have been a few down there, lost a worm tail and a lizard tail on a couple of bites. Nice day 75, sunny and light breeze.
Throwing a watermelon red flake t-rigged trick worm. He inhaled it, had to do some minor surgery, swam off like a boss.
No other action, beautiful day here in NW Flo-rida:
Got bored this morning...decided to head to the creek and see what's up. We have had a torrent of rain this past week, and I was not sure if the water would be too high. Well, it was worse than I thought, I could not even pull my truck off the highway, literally. The water was 100 yards on either side of the creek, might be a couple of weeks until it subsides, more rain forecast for next week.
Guess I will have time to reorganize all the christmas fishing stuffs.
Any luck since??
I'll be going to FL soon, hopefully enjoy some fishing. I've been itching.

No, still raining here. I think this morning was the first in almost 2 weeks we actually had sunshine. More rain forecast for the rest of the week.
Aside from that, been working, no time.
creek is down to "normal" levels. Hit it up after work, caught one about 1.5lbs on a blackberry brush hog. No other action.
Better than nothing.
hit it up after work today. For fun, I did try out a frog, that thing has got some action, and the gurgling wake is a bonus. No hits on it, but I'm sure when the season is here, it will be tied on my line first thing in the mornings. After that, put on a watermelon flake zoom lizard, got one good bite and missed him. Oh well. Try again this weekend.
good luck
I hope to hit a pond sunday morning
hit it up today around 11. Sun was up, beautiful day. Threw structure bug til I got hung up/broke off. Switched to a junebug zoom lizard.
Nothing. Stayed about an hour, figured I would head home to get the leaves up in the yard.
Hit up the creek several times this past week, and today. No bites at all. Air temp about 52, sunny and light winds. Stayed about an hour.
Hit up a small lake up the road today. Never had any luck there...and still don't. Too much grass for t rig or c rig. Threw a red eye shad for awhile...too much grass for that too. Threw a keitech swimbait...Nothing. A few boats out, talked to one guy, said he caught some big ones last year. Don't really like driving an hour to this place, got bored. Almost 20 years I have tried fishing at this place...not often, but once in awhile. Never even got a bite yet.
Where abouts do you live in NW FLA ? I was born and raised in Lillian AL and Paradise Beach FLA!! My dad and I fished the Perdido River, the Escambia River, Tensaw River-Live Oak Landing, Soldiers Creek, Miflin Creek, Sandy Creek..... Our favorite March camping trips were to Roland Cooper State Park on one of the locks of the Alabama River, Someone was guaranteed to catch a 7# plus....
Cantonment
Hit it up after work today. Throwing an 1/8 shakey head with a watermelon trick worm. Got windy...3rd cast, reeling in, thought I got hung up, did not feel a bite, but surprise, caught a decent sub 2#er. No more action, light started to fade....and I didn't even lose a rig today. I just had a feeling that shakey head would not last more than a few casts, but I came home with it still on. yay shakey head.
No bites today, and I lost the shakey head...:(
Another goosegg today. Lost my buzzbaits craw on first cast....ahhhh...really windy today, current was moving a little.
Lost another shakey head/trick worm. Headed home to watch some dvr shows.
I know right where Cantonment is, we had friends that lived there.... We moved here to Eastern NC back in '94..... There sure are a lot of nice farm ponds and lakes down in that area... Some have some decent sized bass.. Well kinda neat to read a post from someone in the area I grew up in... Good luck with your fishing and watch out for those cottonmouths!!!!!!
Went a few times this week, and today. Nothing.
beautiful day. Hit up the creek this morning...low 70's, light wind. Bought some zoom speed craws in blackberry, been wanting to try them for awhile. Nothing today, tried a green pumpkin/char. tail trick worm, nothing. BUT!...the turtles are out! That's a good sign, have been keeping track of when I would see them appear this year. The bugs and minnows are also out. You know what that means.
yes, sir
early spawn!
Hit up the creek before noon, and the rain. 1 pike and 1 bass
Caught the pike on a blackberry super speed craw on a swing jig, and the bass on a bama craw colored structure bug t-rigged. I did see a couple huge surface splashes before I left. Put on a keitech swimbait, but nothing.
Edited by atcohathere you go!
Pickerel are fun to catch!
I've fished the creek by my house with much success. But I've only done it during the summer months.
The water is decently cold and i figure i wouldn't have much luck during winter. Anyone ever have any luck creek bassin during winter?
Next time i get out i'll post some pictures. Caught a nice 3 pounder there last year.
Beautiful day. Did some yard work, then headed to the creek about 2pm. Water was normal, but vis was about 6 inches, if that.
Threw a small jig. Threw it up between the bank and a submerged log next to a tree, got whacked HARD, then snap. Broke me off at the leader to braid...ah. Usually don't have a problem with that, but will double check next trip. It happens.
No other action after throwing a black and blue jig. Came home to watch the end of the race.
Hit up the creek about 9:30 this morning. Trick worm, 10" bruiser worm, baby dbombs, brushhog, ...nothing. Stayed for about an hour.
Did see a cottonmouth trying to get across the creek, that was the only excitement.
I forgot, I did catch pickeral....but forgot about him...lol
Went this morning...
2nd cast felt some nips...reeled in and threw back towards the overhanging branches. He gobbled it up. Rage bug.
No other action. Lost a nice jig and a swing head Headed home.
chunky one
went back this morning. Weather was nice, a little breeze. Lost a few lizards, and caught nothing...
Hit up the creek about 11:30 today. Threw a t-rigged power bait worm green pumpkin. Nothing.
Switched up to a blackberry speed craw. Got a hit, and lost it. Reeled in my bait, noticed my bullet weight had some serious teeth marks/scratches on it. Must have been a pickerel. No other action. Headed home to catch gator baseball and the monster mile.
Went this morning. Rained all day yesterday, water was high, dirty and a bit of current.
This little buck hit my black powerbait worm as I was just about to pull it out of the water and recast.
I guess this little fella was hungry. Thought I was reeling in a stick.
A few breakoffs, and 100 more casts I headed home. No skunk today.
Went today around noon. Not there long before I got a hookup. Monster bowfin. Junebug rage lizard.
Fought him for a couple minutes, then he skied about 2 foot out of the water, no joke. And threw the hook.
Good show. No other action, came home to take care of some yardwork.
Thanks for doing these updates. Living in central kentucky for 10 years, I had some of my best memories creekin'. You could catch spots, large and smallmouth all w/in a mile of each other. This post really brings a smile to my face. Thanks again!
what creek are you fishing on?
Pine Barren up off hwy 29
Went today around 3:30. about 93, hot as u know what.
My hand is 7.5" from wrist to fingertip. I'm guessing 17-18" Probably 3#, maybe a tad over. Biggest from the creek yet.
Caught her on a swing jig with a pit boss. I saw her earlier, she followed the bait to the bank, as I was watching the action of my bait in front of me, she was like a shark on a mullet, BAM, I had too much slack in my line, panicked, and broke my line when I tried to set the hook.
Had another big bite when I threw to the submerged branches across the creek, whatever it was started peeling some drag, then got wrapped around down there, let the slack go for a minute, nope, had to break off.
Tied on another pit boss, tried a black berkely work earlier, no action with that. Threw it about 10 feet from the last spot, part of a submerged branch was showing(all of these casts were to the shaded side of the creek and wind started blowing). It literally landed on the branch, I tugged just enough for it to slide into the water, gave a slight pull, I just knew I was stuck between that big branch and another one, gave it a "high" wiggle, nothing...then I saw my line headed the other way, stuck her good, she ran to my side of the creek, right up under a branch and some overgrowth, my line got stuck in a split in the branch, so I had to do some shoreline "ballet" to get it out.
All in all a good day, I headed home after the victory.
In case anyone ever wondered. When I fish the creek, I use my medium/fast 7' st. croix mojo bass spinning rod, with a penn battle 2500.
15# powerprobraid with 10# mccoys copolymer leader.
Have not been to the creek in awhile. Turned out to be a beautiful day here. Hit it up around 11:30
a few small nibbles, probably brim on berkley power bait black worm. Tried strike king grub and junebug lizard...
no takers today.
