I have part of the day off today, so I decided to make some threads.
How many of you have caught a double digit bass? What did you catch her on? What lake?
6 pound smallies count too, Dwight.
No not yet, but I'm planning a Florida trip in early Spring. I hope to break my PB at least. Would be nice a double digit PB!
I haven't....
Not yet. I'm hunting 'em this year, though
Almost, but not quite. Thrice. (NLMBs).
One of them actually puked up a trout while I put her on the stringer and getting my scale and camera tripod ready.
Two DD's for me.
10-2 on SK red eye shad @ Lake Baccarac
11-2 on an indigenous swimbait @ Stickmarsh/Farm 13
No I havent come close. But I know there is a chance. A friend of mine who fishes very little caught one in a strip pit .
4 DD's for me all taken south of the border at Lake Baccarac
10-11 on a 1 oz spinner bait
11-11 on a 3/4 oz SK Red Eye shad
10-5 on a 1/2 oz jig / senko trailer
10-1 on a 3/8 oz Srcounger / fluke combo
Also two Smallies over 6 Both were & I hope still are Lake Erie residents

If you don't have a passport just slip over the GA/FL line. Florida has been on fire this year for DD bass.
No.
Thanks for reminding me.

I'm long overdue for a trip to Lake Seminole.... We were gonna go not to long ago but the house we have in maryanna got burglarized and completely trashed, they took everything that had any value except the stove (probably because it wouldn't fit through the door)
Nope I only really fish here in Jersey. The NJ state record is 10.14lbs, and its been standing for 35 years. If I ever do manage to luck out and get a DD I will have either come close or surpassed it, so my hopes are not to high.

Because he is one.

Yup, I haven't gotten a 10 yet, but I've seen some taken on big live gills. Fishing a deep lake during the prespawn from shore when a guy next to me hooks his 8 inch bluegill on his little spincast combo and tosses it out. Not more than 10 minutes later he hooks up with a monster. Fights it in, I net it for him, and he pops the hook out and lets it go. Didn't take a picture, mess around, or anything. 8 lbs. all day. He said he has taken them to 10 pounds doing this, all on a small lake that nobody even knows holds bass over 5.
No. I've only been bass fishing for 1 year though so that could change. Maybe this year! We'll see.
If you're accepting smallmouth over 6:
About 20-25. I don't have all the weights because I didn't write them down if they were under 7 lbs. (BTW, more than a hundred over 5 lbs)
Three over 7; 7-1 (twice) and 7-3. Lost one smb I swear was over 9.
Largemouth— one DD 10-5, but numerous 9-12 to 9-15. Some of those could have been over 10 but the digital scale could be off.
All in U.S.
Will someone explain to me why a fat*** fish is better than a fish that is the same age and just as smart? It doesn't upset me or anything but it is weird that a fat young fish is considered more of a trophy than an old, wise fish that may not be full of shad and eggs. Food for thought.
I caught a 23" smallie, never seen one that big in my life before and never even dreamed of catching a smallmouth that size, but if I go bragging about my smallmouth that didn't even make the 5lb mark it doesn't sound like much does it?
I'm in west central Florida so it's not a fair comparison, plus I have been doing this a long time. Three largest are 14.1, 13.5, and 11.3. Have caught literally hundreds between 9 and 10. Nothing you couldn't do if you lived here.
Don't catch as many as I used to as I only fish for bass a couple months out of the year now as I am eatin up with Snook fishing.

I have caught a lot of smallmouth since I started to fish for them but my longest is only 23" so I congratulate you.
DD Largemouth: ........................no
6lb Smallie: 6.1 on a tube. Had a big muskie right behind it too..

Was your 7-6 on a taildancer caught while targeting smallies?
On 2/14/2015 at 11:28 AM, everythingthatswims said:Was your 7-6 on a taildancer caught while targeting smallies?
Yes
We had four guys fishing two different areas in two boats.. The other boat called is us and said they were catching good fish in 20-25 fow just off the bottom. I decided to switch baits from a jerkbait to a floating crank bait to get deeper. My bait got down to the bottom and bounced twice & I got slammed. We were all smiles when she hit the net & came into the boat. The difference between a 7 lb smallie versus a 6lber is eye catching.
I have yet to catch a DD. I have been close. It is a tough feat to accomplish with NLMB in Northern New England. That will not stop me from trying.

Above are some reasons why it's just fine to be wacky about wacky. Nice job!
6-9 Smallie on Green Bay on a chugbug Biggest LM 7-9 on Toho with a 1/4 oz. chart/white spinnerbait.
I've caught 1, my PB of 10lbs 2ozs from Lake Commendero, Mexico on an 8" Watermelon Zoom Lizard. Kansas state record is only 11.80lbs, but I'm trying to break that DD mark in Kansas. Hi Salenity came close this winter with a 9.25 pound fish so there's fish that can do it living here. Smallmouth record isn't even 7 pounds but a couple 6 pounders are caught each year it seems like.
I can't get over the hump: (Kansas fish)
One right at 9# LMB
A couple over 8#
Several smallmouth in the low to mid 5's#
Don't ask where...some secrets are better kept to yourself
I've caught 3, all when I lived in SoCal. 2 came on a tube and one on a jig. My first bass ever was a 10-1 on a tube (talk about getting hooked) funnt thing is, is that I haven't fished a tube in a year or so.
reading through this, i have never wanted to go fishing so bad in my life. awesome catches fellas.

Now that is funny!
Nope but a few changes have been made with regards to my mindset and approach.
I still am of the opinion that each fishing trip Is a gift and the goal Is to have fun but , and I can't really explain this, I'm seeing things more clearly and actually concentrating much more than before.
I'm glad I read this thread. I figured everyone would be saying they catch double digit bass every year or something. Makes me think when I catch a three pound bass that I'm doing really really good.

I think everyone loves a 3 pounder, myself included.
Haven't caught a dd but im almost there! 9.3 pounds is my pb, caught on a 3/4 bluegill sk shad in an old strip pit.

Sweet. Congrats on the new PB.
Thanks I got her on video and the release scale was bouncing in the 10s from 10.6 to 10.9 but only clear screen shot I got it read 9.5 so I have to go with that because I am submitting her to the Florida Trophy Catch program.
I will make a post later pretty cool story how it all happened
CONGRATULATIONS!
