You're Invited!
The mods and I listened to your feedback, and I am pleased to announce the 3rd Annual BassResource.com Road Trip will be held at Lake Guntersville, Alabama on March 23-28, 2008!!!
Some of the many reasons why this lake was chosen:
1. Maximum member participation
2. Reputation for numbers, variety and size (recognized "tour" lake)
3. Enormous shoreline with a variety of structure and cover
4. Best time of year to fish this lake (spawn should be in full swing)
5. Outstanding accomodations (reasonably priced)
6. Access to other lakes as contingencies arise (wind, rain and waterflow)
7. Relatively easy access overland or by air
8. No boat or car rental required
9. Guide services available
10. For those looking for "fishing alternatives" nearby Birmingham is a historic Southern City (which was voted the "Bass Capital Of The World" by Bassmaster Magazine subscribers).
The fishing on the Lake is excellent that time of year. The bass are spawning starting around the second week in March and there are alot of bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. From that location you aren't far from the best Spotted bass water in the country.
You don't want to miss this one!
Book your reservations now!
Here's the information:
Lake Guntersville State Park is the headquarters for the event. We have reserved 13 Lakeside Cottages & 14 Chalets for arrival of March 23, 2008 and checking out on March 28, 2008. Both have a king bed in one room, and 2 queen beds in another.
The Chalets have one bathroom and a tremendous view. The Cottages are on the lake, have 2 bathrooms, and are near the boat launch, BUT are about 1 mile from the hotel and chalets.
Each cabin and chalet is $125 per night plus tax for a total of $141 per night. There are also 321 campsites for anyone with a camper (full hook-ups available) starting at just $17 per night.
In addition, you may book a room at the newly remodeled hotel, which has a spectacular view and is adjacent to the chalets. There are several 1 and 2 bedroom options in the hotel starting at $98 per night. The wife and I will be staying there.
For more information, visit http://www.guntersvillestatepark.com/ and http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=5
RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE BY YOU! They will fill up fast, so don't delay! Call 800-LGville to make reservations. You MUST mention group code CGBASS in order to get your reservation. You do not have to book it for the 23rd through the 28th, you can go longer or shorter. Just understand we cannot guarantee availability if you want to stay outside those dates.
The cut-off date for people to make reservations is February 23, 2008.
More information and news will be posted on this thread regarding who's going, who's cooking, who's bringing boats, who needs back seats, etc.
Looking forward to seeing you there! '08 NO EXCUSES!!

Freakin Sweet!!!!!!!!!!
Big G, here we come!!!!!!!!
Just Mapquested it from Chambersburg, PA....700 miles, 11 hours!!!! That aint nothin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like some fun for sure.
Just googled it...
Drive:
1,142 mi about 18 hours 48 mins Yikes...
700 miles. I-20 going through Shreeveport, Jackson Ms, into Alabama.
Matt
There is only one lake between my home lake and the big G. I'll be there.
In fact, just yesterday a guy from the Chattanooga Fishing Forum and I set up an 8-hour guided fishing trip on the G for early November.
This will be my first trip down that far. I just got my boat last July, and have just now gotten it capable of making a road trip. I should have time to get down there several times between now and then.
It's HUGE! Get a map! 5 pounders all day long...a "WORLD CLASS" LMB fishery! A place DD dreams come true!
I can be on Guntersville waters in 45 minutes from the house...1 to 1-1/2 hours to the prime fishing areas. teeheehee...hope ya'll don't get too tired to fish!
I'll be there with my boat.
I'm not sure if anyone is coming with me.
Just a thought.
I realize it's still around 5 months away but are there any water level issues at the lake currently that could become an issue if the drought persists?
The water issues only involve dam release schedules. The Tennessee River is a commercial waterway which means a navigatable channel is always maintained. Even now, with rainfall totals 17" below normal, the reservoirs on this river are somewhat above "winter pool". The greatest risk is heavy rain resulting in the opening of the spillways. When the gates are open, the water turns to chocolate milk, but fortunately does not stay that way for long. This is a VERY controlled river/ reservoir system.
Additionally, Logan Martin on the Coosa River is within reasonable driving distance. This is perhaps THE premier spotted bass lake in the country. This is a lake many may want to visit regardless of how the fishing or water conditions are at Guntersville.
I'm there.....with boat!
LBH is waiting to hear from work in regards to getting the time off and if he does,....I'M THERE!!!
It KILLED me to drop him at the airport last year and then turn around and drive home. Those were 8 of the longest miles I've ever driven
But I'm pretty sure no one saw me cry :'( ;D
Count me in. I can't wait!!! WOO HOO!!!! ;D
Went to the Gunterville State Park website. It really sucks. Their map of the resort really, really sucks. Other than room rates, I learned almost nothing. From what I can tell from the Google Earth images, there are no boat slips available, and it seems as if nothing is convenient to anything else. Could someone please prove me wrong?
We will have some follow-up, but let's start here:
http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=5
Lake Guntersville State Park hotel is currently under renovation. Their website is also being redesigned. We will be one of the first large groups to stay in the new resort hotel after its completion. It doesn't have slips but it has a large ramp and plenty of parking. It's good that they don't have slips because most of the accommodations are a short drive from the water and securing our boats would be an issue. Guntersville is a huge lake and many of us will be pulling our boats to different ramps in order to access other parts of the lake. I have done some extensive research and this place is the best I've seen. It even has a decent golf course.
I have heard nothing but good things about this lake during March. It is a big bass heaven.
Great link RW!
The water levels usually only have a fluctuation of 2-3 ft max. I have seen it flood so deep that ramps are unusuable. In Northeast Alabama we are offically 24 inches under on rain fall. HOPEFULLY we will get some much needed rain fall this winter or next year could be bad. Alot of the area creeks are drying up.
FWIW, The ramp at the State Park is the best on the lake in my opinion and I have fished here for over 20 years. The ramp is either 4 or 5 lanes and has 2 30+ft L shaped floating docks. There is a dock available for people that are camping in the camp ground. The grounds are gated and you must have a key code to get into the campground.
I have maps of the entire lake also...
So tater, we gonna get to meet ya??
Appreciate the info
He's on the list.
QuoteSo tater, we gonna get to meet ya??Appreciate the info
If nothing happens between now and then I'll be there. Thats about an hour drive for me the State Park.
Cool man, can't ask for much more than that.
If you can't come, can I rent your boat? ;D
Sounds like a good time, and only 5 1/2 hours from me. If things go well I hope to be there!!
Well, the good news is I'll have my license by the end of this week.
Bad new is, I don't think my parents will let me drive from West Virginia to Alabama by myself to fish with people I met on the internet for a week. ;D
Maybe in a few years.
TF- Bring your dad!!
Ha, if only he was into fishing as much as me, maybe that would work.
Oh well, we're going trout fishing in the mountains last week of October, maybe I can convince him.
TF if you can get to NC I will have some extra room and you can make the other 600 miles with me. O r you can take one of my other truck and my Skeeter and fall in behind me.
QuoteTF if you can get to NC I will have some extra room and you can make the other 600 miles with me. O r you can take one of my other truck and my Skeeter and fall in behind me.
I am guessing TF's parents would have some serious issues with him traveling cross country with strangers to fish for a week. Otherwise I would pick him up in the BassBus, he's on my way.
Ronnie

I resemble that remark...lol ;D
Anyone from Michigan plan on going?
Gentlemen, I've just taken a hard look at the economics of attending the get-together. It would be a 12 hour drive for me and the gas alone would cost me over $400 for the round trip. In all the cost would be about $1000. Lake Fork is only about a 4.5 hour drive for me, and it is one of the best Lunker Lakes in the South. In addition, there are at least three lakes in Oklahoma that are noted for lunker bass.
I know the trip to G'ville would be a lot of fun, but I am going to have to opt out.
Avid's message/motto is "so many lures ...so little time. " I will paraphrase it by saying "so many lakes ... so little time."
Maybe next year.
Please disregard my previous message. Financially, the gods have smilled upon me. I WILL attend.
QuotePlease disregard my previous message. Financially, the gods have smilled upon me. I WILL attend.
Attaboy mike!!!!!!!!
Thats the spirit!!!!!!!!!!!
QuotePlease disregard my previous message. Financially, the gods have smilled upon me. I WILL attend.
That's great news Mike! I was disappointed that you were not going to be there.
Ronnie
I want to see you fish wearing your helmet!
Glenn, if I can figure a way to mount a visor on it, you're on.
Man,...You're a tease, wouldn't be the same w/o you Mike.
Team Helmet in the house!!
Golly and Gee Whiz! I cannot believe the rampant excitement being exhibited by the prospective attendees! It's totally underwhelming! Not one post in the last ten days!
OK, I'll start the ball rolling. From what I can gather from the crappy web site of G'vill State Park, most of the accomodations consist of a two bed-room layout with a King bed in one room and two Queens (please, no gay jokes) in the other. This layout would be appropriate for say, three guys, or a couple and two guys. Let's just stick with three guys. I'm looking for two other guys who would be willing to split the cost of the room with me for all five nights. If a married couple is interested, you would obviously have the room with the King, and the cost would still be divided by three.
As background info, I'm sixty-one, I smoke, and I drink. I will not smoke in the room at any time. I would prefer to room with mature individuals who are not inclined to party to late hours. Since we will all be there for the fishing, I truely doubt that partying will be an issue.
Also, I have a 17' Tracker that I can share only one seat with. I would prefer to share it with a seasoned bass fisherman because I have very little experience at the sport. My PB is 4lbs, caught during the last BR trip at Lake Fork. It's shown on my Avatar.
If you are interested in sharing a room or the boat, please PM me.
Mike,
My wife and I are attending, I smoke like a train and drink like a fish, I would be willing to split the cost of a room with you 2 shares here to your one. I am 27 and my wife is old, I mean 33. We don't act like highschool sweethearts, so no need to worry there.
Does anyone have any info regarding the availability of alcoholic beverages at the G'ville Park Hotel?
Jeremy, let's see if we can make it a foursome. If it was three guys, the cost would be split three ways. I see no reason to split it four ways since your wife will be taking up the other half of your bed. You and your wife will have the King. If any potential roommate has a problem with this financial arrangement then feel free to make alternative plans. Fair is fair.
Jeremy, PM sent.
Long Mike,
I haven't received a pm
You have now.
I am going to try to make a trip to Guntersville in a few weeks. I will take lots of pictures to share with you guys. If anyone lives closer than 5hrs drive and is willing to do it please let me know.
I would have loved to join you guys and actually have been looking forward to meeting a lot of you this year but Guntersville is a bit out of reach for me and my dad this year with finances being the way they are. The first year we have it on the eastern seaboard and a little further closer to us in Virginia we will be there. North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, etc all places we could make. Just can't do Alabama with gas for the cars and boats this year. Sorry fellas. Have a good time and I look forward to an excellent video from you folks. I'm sure Russ or someone will have some nice stuff for us to look at when you guys get back. Later.
Hey guys,
We'll be in Guntersville this evening and in the morning......if there is anything specific you want to know.....just let me know. I'll take pics and have them up by Monday.
Just post here and I'll check back ......
I want to see picks of the resort hotel, cabins, chalets, boatramp, campgrounds. Inside and out if you can.
Thanks for you willingness to help out.
How many people are staying at the resort versus the cabins and/or chalets? I would like to stay with the majority so we can get together after each day and have a good BS session. I guess we could all get together no matter where we stay. Just curious??? Is there any way to make a list of who's staying where?? Yeah, I know, too many questions....I'm just excited!!!
How close are the chalets and cabins to the main hotel complex? What I'm getting at is what kind of hike is required to reach the main gathering area. Also, do we have to import our own booze?
Thanks,
Mike
Ok guys, I'll see what we can do....we got in late this afternoon....Talk about beautiful....mountains, the lake.......haven't seen the state park yet. I do know it's not a dry county, other than that, I can say, the night view is absolutely breathtaking. I can see Lake G from our motel room.
Will see what we can find out in the morning. We won't have a lot of time before we have to head back home but I can say already.....I'm definately coming back for a longer visit!
I was going to wait for my fishing partner to give me the yes/no but he won't know untill the week before we go. I'm not taking any chances.
I am looking for two people to share the cost of the lake shore cabin I have reserved. I don't drink or smoke, but if you do that's fine with me. I'm there to fish with as many of you guys as possible and I do like my sleep. So there won't be much late night partying going on there.
I'm going to take care of 1/2 of the cost of the cabin and the other half can be split between the two other people. This will keep the cost down to 176.25 for the week for each person.
PM me if you are interested.
For those of you who think you can't afford this trip. This is how we save money. The Lake Fork trip ran me around 500 to 600 bucks last year. That's was gas to and from the GA/SC line, gas in the boat, lodging and food. Not bad for a six day trip.
So those who want to go please get together and share expenses so everyone can have a good time with no worries.
Man I really want to attend..........I mean REALLY want to attend.............
Here's my dilema. From now till March I usually stockpile as much $$$ as I can for my tournament season which usually begins in early to mid April here. If I commit my stockpile of $$$ to this trip things will be really tight for my tourney season.
I already have an invite from Roadwarrior to stay with him and Flechero (I think) so that part will save me some $$$.
Fuel is my only other considerable $$$ concern.
I live in Northwestern PA and figure the one way trip to be over 700 miles.
I plan on driving and taking my boat. Is there anyone up this way who would like to go with me and split fuel costs? I have a Chevy Silverado w/ extended cab, probably could actually take 2 people with me.
I'm looking for 1 or 2 guys to share trip expenses. ANYONE UP THIS WAY INTERESTED?
Judging by satellite imagery, and pics from the two Guntersville websites, I'd say the trek between cabins and hotel/chalets would require a vehicle. Seems it's a very steep incline.
I'm sure we'll be spread out a little, but my guess is that the majority will be in the cabins. Keri and I are staying at the hotel because we didn't want to occupy a 2 bedroom cabin when we only need one. We wanted to free that up for people who are sharing rooms. That, and there's wireless Internet at the hotel. Plus it doesn't hurt that the rooms are brand new. :
As Fluke said, sharing expenses is what it's all about! This not only helps make the trip feasible, but also encourages everyone to meet and get to know each other. It's all part of the fun and experience that makes this trip so much fun!
Hey folks, I wanted to let you know that Alpster will be helping out by providing you comprehensive information about the trip (guides, area attractions, boater/non-boater signup, meals, etc.). It's a LOT of information to compile and keep updated, so please help me give him a huge, heartfelt thanks for stepping up to the plate to help make this trip enjoyable for everyone!
Thanks Alpster, if you need help or get overloaded with stuff let me know, I'll help out.

Since boat slips are not available, how will everyone be re-charging their boat batteries overnight?
At the cabins. There are power hookups at the campsites as well. I'm not sure about the hotel parking lot though.
I am so stoked about this trip!!! I can't wait to meet you all.
Here fishy fishy fishy
More questions from the ignorant one.
Does each ramp charge launch fees? If so, how much are they - and can you buy a temporary permit for all ramps?
Also, can the above permits and temporary fishing licenses be purchased at the lodge?

Ronnie, I am patience personified, so long as I get what I want.
Hey LBH-Got the ok from the wife!! I'll have my boat, got room in your cabin?
Darrin
Sorry bud,Call me or find me on AIM
Any chances of getting you all here in Kentucky in the upcoming years? It would be a lot closer for some of the Northern members on the board.
Kentucky Lake is has 2,380 miles of shoreline and 160,000 acres of water.
I spent a lot of time at Guntersville when I was at Auburn. Did a lot of research & studies there with the Fisheries Biologists. They are a decent fishery, and you guys should have fun. I'd like to go, but my local lodge outing is the week after that. We're going to be hitting Kentucky Lake / Lake Barkley for the Spawn. Have fun.
Kentucky/Barkley would be amazing... My parents live down there now and I have been fishing that lake since i was about 5 and my dad since around 1959. Please keep this area into consideration for future trips. There are many great palces to stay here too... Kenlake, Sportsmans, the Moors, KY Dam Village...

I got one on the way. I may have gotten the same map you have, it is a lake map the shows depth and all the boat ramps and marinas. Good map. For those of you that want one, Alpster will be posting some info on where to get them soon. 8-)
I defiantely want a map. I'd like some input from those who already have one.
Anyone care to share which map to buy?

Here you go:
http://www.guntersvillelakeinfo.com/lakemaps.shtml
I use Navionics paper maps. They are by far the best maps out there.
Guntersville comes in three different maps. (North, Central, South)
http://www.navionics.com/HMPaperCatalog.asp
Fluke, I'm going to open a seperate thread on this subject.
Something just came up in the "southeast" section that I thought I would mention here.
a quote from my reply in southeast--
Something we have learned on past trips, going to the large lakes. Many participants come from much smaller water, avg 200 acres. Intimidation is big. Pick an area and fish it like it was your lake at home, don't worry about the other 13,000 acres. Just a suggestion.
But with that thought in mind, I say, bring the stuff you bring when you fish your home lake. A bass is a bass.
You guys will most likely have fish in all 3 stages from pre-spawn to post spawn, bring baits to address each.
Ok here's one thing I am confused about. If each cabin is say $140 a night, and they sleep 3 people, doesn that mean each person still puts in $140 a night or would the cost be spliut three ways. I don;t mind sharing a places for a few days, especially if it's going to save me $60. To be honest, beign a college student, I can;t afford $140 a night for a few nights, and I'd love to go on a trip with a bunch of other avid anglers, but if I have to come up with $140 each night, there'es just no way it can happen.
Well I Just checked my colleges academic calender and seems that my spring break is 3/10-3/14. I would still like to blow off a whole week of lectures and just catch up on the reading later, but I don;t know if that's such a good idea. Well, maybe I'll hit up these trips when I'm out of school. I'll actually have some money then, hopefully some more gear, and some more knowledge and experience. Catch some for me guys.
Big G can be very intimidating due to it's size, and I would definitely agree with the post above, and recommend choosing an area and picking it apart.
If you are in a small boat, I'd focus on the areas near the State Park. Siebold Creek and Osa Wintha are right across the channel from the park, and they are both really good areas in the Spring (lots of grass flats and spawning bays). Mill Creek is just North of there, and it also has good Springtime habitat.
If you want to go down lake from the park, I'd look at Big Spring Cr, Brown's Cr, Honeycomb Cr, and the bay and islands in front of Alred marina. There are a lot of docks in these areas as well as humps and numerous flats with grass on them.
If you choose to fish up-river, look at North and South Sauty Creeks along with Mink Creek and Roseberry Cr. Way up-river you have Mud creek and Crow Cr, and it's more like a river system. The main river islands and flats between South Saulty and Roseberry can be really good too for pre and post spawn fish.
I fish G'ville around 20 times per year, and we're going at a great time. We should have fish in at least two phases of the spawn (pre-spawn and spawn), and depending on the weather, we may have a few fish moving off.
As far as baits I'll be throwing:
My general rule on Big G is pre-spawn is hard bait bite (jerkbait, cb, and trap), spawn is time to throw plastics, and post spawn is a spinnerbait, crankbait, and plastics out on the ledges. The trap bite usually dies after the majority of the fish spawn (plus the fish have seen a blue million of them).
Pre-spawn fish:
- Strike King Series 5 CB or Fat Free Shad in shad patterns over emergent grass (most of these fish will be in 6-10 ft)
- Rattle Traps in red and royal shad colors
- Carolina rigged baby brush hog in watermelon candy
- suspending jerkbait in shad colors
- Tx rigged Plastics (tube or lizard)
- 5" swimbait in shad color
- 1/2 oz spinnerbait in chart and white
Shallow spawning fish (1-5 ft around grass, docks, and wood):
- 6" senko in green hue
- chatterbait
- Bayou Boogie in Shad or red
- floating worm in bright color (white or sherbert color)
- Tx Rigged lizard
- 3/8 oz jig in green pumkin and blue
If there is a post spawn bite, it will be spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, and plastics more than likely.
You might want to consider hiring a guide for a day early in the week. Tim Chandler is the best down there IMHO. He stays on the fish, and he's a really nice guy.
One stop you need to make before you head to the State Park is to Waterfront Grocery on the west side of the lake near Goosepond resort. The bait monkey lives there, but he's a kinder-gentler primate. This is IMHO the best bait shop in the South. The food is good, and all the local guides hang there. They have the best selection of tackle around, and they will actually tell you what the fish are doing.
One final tip- the shallow fish will be getting pounded hard in late March, so if you can find some grass fish out off the banks (staging areas), concentrate on those fish. You can hook a TOAD if you find the right stretch of grass. Last year in March, I had around twenty five pounds in five fish in about 1 hour. The fish came out of 6-8 ft in the grass.
It should be a lot of fun. I look forward to meeting you guys.
Man that's great info and just what I was looking for!
As far as the grass bite, I love to rip traps and work baits over top. I also love to flip/pitch grass with soft baits, is that a decent pattern there? I know some places have good flippin bites in the grass and other have great grass and it's difficult to flip up fish. Just wondering. Also, the docks, are they shallow (say 3-5 feet) or deeper, or both LOL?
Thanks for the detailed post. I just may print out your post and keep it with me! I have a big boat so running wherever on the lake is definately and option. Will travel for fish!, plus I like to roam and see as much of a lake as I can.
QuoteQuoteMore questions from the ignorant one.Does each ramp charge launch fees? If so, how much are they - and can you buy a temporary permit for all ramps?

Hey Mike,

Ronnie
OK, Ronnie, I've been patient for about three weeks now, waiting on information that you said would take "a few more days." My friend, as I told Russ in a PM several weeks ago, I'm semi-retired and have quite of bit of time on my hands, so I'm more than willing to do some bloodhound work for you and the others. Just name the task, and it will be done. Cost is no object for me. I'm willing to spend what ever it takes up to $25 to make sure the job gets done. ;D
The grass in March is not really flippin grass. It's really too early. Most of the grass is still emerging at that time, not toppped out, so you're more fishing over the grass (thus the CB, trap, jerkbait).
You can pitch plastics and catch fish for sure, but most of the time you're better using search baits until you find them. Then you can slow down and pitch.
The fish on Big G seem to group up on key spots on the grass lines and ledges, so you have to hunt them.
The docks are shallow and some fairly deep on the main channel and the creek channels. Most of the docks I fish are back in the bays and creeks shallow in March. This pattern is best around the spawn.
Shadcranker, that was an AWESOME post. Very informative and sure to help a number of guys on the trip.

They have GPS waypoints for humps, etc.
Good topo detail.
I guess I have a favor to ask for the trip. My wife is going with me and pretty much the only thing she knows of fishing is drowning a worm or a minnow. We are paired up for the week, but I was wondering if for a day someone could take her out and teach her some stuff, she gets frustrated with me. I would be able to take someone out with me, I would actually let someone take me out on my boat and maybe show me some things as I am still in the puppy stages of bass fishing. I would appreciate it, if this could be accomidated. I think the both of us would have a better time this way. Thanks
Jeremy

I'm sure one of us could do that for ya. This will also be the perfect chance for you to hire a guide for a day. Take your wife with you and let the guide do the work. This will make the rest of the week go by much smoother. I know several of us will be doing that.
Whoa!! This get together sounds awesome!!!!
riverfisher,
Your welcome to join us.
OK everyone,
I promised this to you a while back and it's finally ready to let it out of the gate. The "Roadtrip" website is up and running. Please remember that I am not a professional "Webmaster" and the site is not full of flash and dazzle. It is my hope that putting all the information in a single website will make it easier to get information on the trip without having to sift through lots threads and posts.
I had a lot of help with this, Jimzee79, Speedbead & Ghoti did a pile of research and fact finding and Glen was very helpful with the site itself. Without further ado....

Ronnie
Ronnie, the site looks great and should be very useful.
May I ask a question? Why was it necessary to "denote" members with less than 1 year here?
I have been a BR member since January 2006, that's almost 2 years. I was "denoted" as being a less than 1 year BR member.

Eric,
It was suggested that newer members be noted so new members would know they are welcome to join us. In other words, this is not an exclusive trip for senior members. Yours was a typo (wrapping error) and it has been fixed. WOW! it takes no time for mistakes to be found, THANKS! sorry for the typo.
Ronnie
Site is awesome Ronnie, thanks for the hard work. Looks way better than I was expecting. Also, thanks to Glenn, Speadbead, and Ghoti for helping put all this info together. Now I am more excited if that's possible.
Ahhhh.....now I get it.
I defiantely see how newer members may not understand or think they are welcome to join us!
Come one, come all!
Excellent job Ronnie, but quite frankly, I'm not surprised.
One thing, please remove "Dirk" from the main list, he took the same vacation week as me unfortunately.
Ronnie, the site looks great. I thought it had a lot of info during the initial stages and I must say, you have now outdone yourself with the final product.
Great job!!!
I just got done spending 30 minutes on the info site very well laid out and plenty of info thanks for the time spent helping everyone out..
Ronnie, great job on the site. Nice layout, easy to use. Thanks to all the other guys who helped, also.
Note: if you feel the need to make any tweaks, please note that Mrs Ghoti found at least half the stuff you credited to me.
Cheers,

WHAT HAS TWO THUMBS AND IS PUMPED UP ABOUT THE GUNTERSVILLE TRIP?????
<-------THIS GUY RIGHT HERE
Me to!
Can I get a BOOYAH?
Great job as usual Alpster!! Really looking forward to catching up with you again.
I'm fired up for Guntersville......a couple months to reorganize the gear....a couple outings before the roadtrip.....and I'll be ready for my first 5 pounders....Shadcranker has guaranteed I'll get more than one each day.....we'll see.....optimism is running rampant!!!
Man, I sure am gonna miss seeing you guys again. :'( Catch a fiver for me
Huh? Russ are you telling the group that you will not be attending? I'm sure I missed you opting-out in an earlier post, but you cannot NOT attend. After all, you started it!
If it is a vacation conflict with a co-worker, I have friends with large knuckles and small brains who can arrange to have you placed on the vacation schedule between March 23-28.
Muddy, what's it gonna cost me to pull this off?
Believe me Mike, I'm extremely distressed over this one but it's out of my hands.
My name is not on the list but I am still getting quite a bit of email with questions regarding the trip. Please refer to Alpster's site for all trip info, it's all in there
Trust me, it's killing me. I am on vacation the week before, middle of winter here and I get to do absolutely nothing except realize that I will not be with the crew the week after, it will be a very depressing 2 weeks.
So, on a positive note,....who do we think will be the high liner at the scales? Any guesses? I'm sticking with the sure bet....I've got 50 on Keri

As the Joker would say.....Wait til they get a load of me!!!!
haha, j/k.....I just hope I get to stick one, any one..... LOL
I am going and thanks to Long Mike and JeremyT. I have a back seat open if anyone needs one...
I know one thing........It's now less than 3 months away!
I can't wait
The friend that is traveling down with me is not a member here and a fairly new to bassin. I would love to see him stick a big one!
No wait.....
Just got selfish, the heck with him. I WANNA STICK A BIGUN

I hear ya brotha.....
What are we calling "big ones" at Guntersville anyhow?
Anyone know?
Fat Girls?
I think 4-6 lbs can be a reasonable expectation with a few 8 and 9. 10's are possible, but that's a BIG bass at Guntersville, like everwhere else for most of us. What I think will suprise people is the number of good bass that will be caught.
Haha, sorry. Should have been more specific.
What size of fish (pounds) are we gonna consider "fat girls"
I am sure its a little different between Fork and Guntersville, just curious as to what level one would have to achieve to be in the "Fat Club" ?
The Alabama State Record Largemouth is 16.5 lbs (1987); Smallmouth 10.5 lbs (1950).
No one caught a 10 at Lake Fork. Glenn caught the big bass which was 9.1 lbs.
For a number, I would call 8+ a Fat Girl.
Shoot, if you travel there from a place where a 5 is a chunk, then a 5.1 would do it for me,lol.
QuoteShoot, if you travel there from a place where a 5 is a chunk, then a 5.1 would do it for me,lol.
Good point. Over 5 if you are above the Mason Dixon Line....over 8 for everyone else LOL
You got it Wayne, just keepin' it real, lol. ;D
I fished there around six days last Feb and March, and in six trips, I had twelve fish over five pounds, including two over six.
Most tournaments in the Spring, it takes 20 pounds plus to cash a check and at least 23 pounds to win (on five fish).
So, if we hit it right, you can expect to catch 2-3 pound average fish with four to five good ones per day (four lbs. plus).
I had one day last Spring, where I had 25 lbs on five fish in 2 hours, with a 7 1/2 kicker (pictured to your left).
Also, I fished the BASS Weekend Series nationals last January there, and one guy had 31 lbs one day (with a 10 and 11 lbr in the bag).
The potential is there to catch a ten pounder, and I would bet we'll see one or two on the trip.
Guntersville does not have as many 10+ fish as Fork, but we should catch a bunch of 4-7 lbrs.
Most locals there consider 8lb + a trophy. 5-7 lb fish don't turn any heads, simply because the lake puts out so many of them.
SC
Shad, what kind of numbers can one expect on a typical day?
While I wouldnt mind catching a pig, I would definitely enjoy catching fish on a consistent basis.
It really depends how you hit them.
The fish there really tend to group up in key spots. If you find them, you can easily catch 20-40 per day.
I've had days when I've only caught five or six, but the thing that makes it so good is the quality of the average fish.
I'd say on average in the Spring, I catch 10-15 fish in a day.
Main thing is to keep moving until you find them, and then slow down and catch everything you can.
QuoteShad, what kind of numbers can one expect on a typical day? While I wouldnt mind catching a pig, I would definitely enjoy catching fish on a consistent basis.
You need to steer clear from that line of thinking Wayne. 2 trips to Fork have taught me 1 thing, you can be fishing Ray Scotts backyard, if it's during the spawn, the weather is everything.
we went to Fork on yr 1 with the same thought process as you, relying on our level as fishermen to at least give us a few fish/day, certainly not a skunk. Heck, so what,...no 10lbr, that's not my goal,...well GOOD THING!! lol. A 2 lbr took everything but Dynamite. I could have been fishing somewhere in RI during cold weather season and I would not have known the difference. This is Lake Fork??? Yup, during a severe cold front during the spawn. The idea of going during spawn is that there is that chance of a real brag worthy fish. With those chances come higher odds of a complete shut down, weather forbidding.
Yr 2 , we had similar conditions but nowhere near as harsh. The bite was tough. Folks with guides saw their big fish but the avg decent angler would struggle just to put a few in the boat, but they were caught.
The whole moral here is that we go to meet up, catching, is icing on the cake, catching a biggun', makes it that much better. The primary highlight for many of us who have gone however, even those that caught the big fish, was the camaraderie. By far. Just hanging out in person with all the guys we hang out with via cable modem,...it's very cool. Actually fishing with them and attacking a foreign lake together, well, it's something only our members will ever know. You guys are gonna have a blast, trust me, big fish or no fish, you'll have a blast.

I hear ya Russ.
Believe me, I realize this trip is bigger than catching fish and exploring a new lake. I know my memories of this trip are not contingent upon catching fish at Gville.
It would definitely be nice though
(Understand that I just gave you some serious mojo right there. Any time Eric tells me I'm not going to do as well as I think,....guess what......,lol.)
ps- beautiful fish shadcranker, healthy looking.
now, GO GET "EM!!
this trip is very tempting. i actually have an unused plane ticket from a cancelled trip i had to california with an ex-girlfriend that i need to use before april (i think...) of this year, and i'm pretty sure i can exchange it for any flight. i'm not sure where i could even fly into or how i'd get to the lake and surrounding area, but i'm going to look into it.
anyone else from MA going to this?
Quoteanyone else from MA going to this?
Looks like you're on your own this year, Mike. Cigarlover and I went down last year from Mass., though, and it was a blast. I highly recommend you make it if you can. First-rate people to fish and hang with.
i'm going to look into it. as of right now i have zero information on how to even get my plane ticket. the ex-gf booked the flight and everything, i just gave her the cash for the ticket, and now i'm stuck not knowing a single thing about how to even redeem it, or even what airline it's for. i emailed her after making that last post asking her to send me whatever info she can, hopefully she'll get back to me soon.
HEY?
Just out of curiousity, did anyone notice that the first day of our roadtrip is on Easter Sunday?
I just realized that, it does not affect me but thought I'd mention it.
Most people don't show up untill Monday anyway.
I'll be there Sunday evening. It's only a twelve hour drive, so I'll be ready first thing Monday a.m. 8-)
QuoteI'll be there Sunday evening. It's only a twelve hour drive, so I'll be ready first thing Monday a.m. 8-)
Same here. See ya there Long Mike. I'll be there with bells on.
I will also arrive Sunday afternoon, 12 hour drive also.
Just thought I'd mention the Easter thing.
I am pretty sure Alpster and I will be there on Saturday.
Anyone else getting tired of waiting already? LOL
A couple of my friends will get there on Monday but I will be there Sunday sometime. I have a 5 1/2 hour drive.
I just watched the video from last year. I am so amped about this trip. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Only 2 1/2 more loooooong months to go.
so i got in touch with the airlines that i had booked my previous tickets through (airtran and delta). airtran was exceptionally helpful in informing me i have a $280 credit with them, while delta has yet to provide me with one bit of info in regards to the ticket i had cancelled or the credit i am supposed to have with them.
regardless, i have to use the airtran credit before may of 2008, which means i'd very much like to attend this trip. i've got a bunch of questions i'm hoping someone in the know can answer for me.
what city is everyone flying into? i'm guessing birmingham. i'd be flying out of either boston, hartford or providence, depending on the city i'd be flying into due to airtran being limited to certain airports.
also, any info on lodging would be great, and if anyone's looking to share a room i'd be willing to do so. i'm 27, i get along with just about everyone, casual drinker, non-smoker, and i don't snore.
i'd also be looking to find a spot on a boat with an experienced angler. i've only gotten into the game this past summer, so i'm fairly new to bassin', but i learn quickly and am respectful of other people's property (meaning i won't spill on your deck, etc.)
if anyone that has any info they'd like to share could either pm me or reply to this post, i'd appreciate it a lot.
*edit* apparently airtran doesn't fly into birmingham, so i might have to fly into atlanta and drive from there. i guess i'll have to see what info delta can give me and maybe book a flight into birmingham with them.

Hey Mike,
Check out the trip website (there's a link in my sig line and the top left corner of every forum page) there's a lot of good information there. If you still have any questions, send me a PM and I will try to help you out.
Glad to see you can make it!
Ronnie
thanks ronnie, pm sent.
apparently in my old age i've gotten a little forgetful, i'm actually only 26. senility rears it's ugly head yet again...
Mike-
You might check into flying into Nashville (2 1/2 hrs) or Chattanooga Tn (1 hr) too.
Good luck
SC
unfortunately the airline i'd be flying on doesn't go to either one of those cities, only memphis which is about a 4-5 hour drive away.
thanks for the suggestion though.
Just bought my plane tickets. Woo Hoo!
Just a reminder if you're thinking about going - you only have a few weeks left to make your reservation at Guntersville state park. The deadline is quickly approaching - and we're filling up fast!
Don't wait until it's too late!
even though the trip is still 2 months off, i'm starting to stock up on gear i'll need for the trip. most of my fishing is done with a t-rigged 5" senko or other soft plastic bait, but i do have a couple buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, deep and shallow cranks, an x-rap and jointed shad-rap, about 8 jigs in various sizes (1/4 - 1/2oz) and colors (browns, greens, black and blue), pop'rs and jit-r-bugs, and a bag or two of storm swimbaits. are there any other baits i should be picking up or should what i have suffice? like i said most of my time is spent throwing senko's, hence the small amount of other baits in my arsenal.
from what i've been reading about g'ville in march, spinnerbaits and shallow running cranks are the way to go since most bass are roaming the shallows or 4-8' drop offs, so i guess i should try to have at least a few of each. any other suggestions are more than welcome.
also if there's anything else i'll need for the trip but will probably forget or not think to bring at all, please let me know. i just picked up rain gear today, but i'm sure there's going to be a few other simple things that i'll totally forget about (sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.).
thanks guys.

I can't believe I have to post this.............
As of today, I now cannot attend the roadtrip. Words cannot say how dissapointed I am not to be able to meet everyone, fish a great lake, and bail on roadwarrior since he has been so gracious to invite me to stay with him.
When I arrived for work today my Chief of Police informed me that I was choosen to attend a Field Training Officer Supervsior class scheduled for March 24-26. This class is only being offered one time in this state this year. Basically, I will supervise the officers that train new recruit officers. It's a good career acheivement for me but it leaves me void of the anticipation I had thinking about Guntersville.
Hope everyone catches one for me, I'll be daydreaming of fishing with you while at the class. :-/
bassnleo, That almost stinks.
Mike you might want to get a couple of crawfish colored lipless crankbaits to.
Mike:
we should have a lot of fish up shallow around the beds on inside grass lines and around stumps and docks (1-5 ft).
You can catch those fish on senkos, soft plastic lizards, tubes, finessee worms. Also, I caught a bunch of nice ones up shallow last year on the Chatterbait in white. Rattle baits in red and shad colors are a mainstay at Guntersville in Feb- April period too, but I prefer it out a bit deeper over the grass in 4-8 ft.
Depending on the weather, we are likely to have a lot of fish in pre-spawn mode too. These fish will be staged on points and in the deeper grass beds in the bays and creeks. Most of these fish are found in 6-10 ft of water, and my favorite baits for them are rattle baits, deep diving CB's (SK series 5 or DT 10's), and tandem spinnerbaits in 3/8 or 1/2 oz.
Only other baits you should need is topwater in case that's happening yet.

Oh man,....BUZZKILL!!
At least there is a positive in your scenario, mine is strictly a scheduling thing, I have the previous week off. How much does THAT suck? My one week a yr to take my fishing vacation and I will be sitting at home reading about you guys going the next week.
On top of that (somewhat reverse situation) the teamsters training teamsters program at UPS will be discontinued in august this yr. I got to do a lot of nice assignment stuff instead of delivery through this program. No mo,lol.
You guys are gonna have a blast, the pressure is on though, I want to see a kickdonkey video when you get back!!!!
KICKDONKEY? You are a funny dude....
I PMed Russ this same question, so I suppose I can throw it out there for all.
What are we doing for a video this year since Russ will not be in attendance?
I'll have my video camera with me. I hope plenty of other guys have theirs to.
Everyone better bring a camera. Preferably a digital one so we can load the pictures onto my computer before we leave from the trip. That way when I am putting the video together I will have plenty of stuff to use.
I'll have my camera and I will buy an extra card for it before I go. I think I can get nearly 10 min. of video with the card I have right now. Any suggestions on a card that will get close to an hour of video? The card I have right now is 1 Gig SD card.
Glenn is video ready too, there ya go, no excuse
(AND NO COUNTRY!!) (I just realized this,lol,....payback time I bet, I can hear the banjo's now, lol)
i'll definitely be bringing my digital camera. i can take up to a half hour of video i believe so that should make for some decent clips.
Quote(AND NO COUNTRY!!) (I just realized this,lol,....payback time I bet, I can hear the banjo's now,lol)

I second that motion!!!!!!!!!
I would be down for some Skynyrd. Fitting song for the location.
I think this is the most action in the thread in a long time....
A combination of cabin fever and adrenaline mixed together in anticipation of the trip.
I freakin love it!!!

That'll be a good one for the video at dinner. ;D
Wayne, I'm getting real excited myself. I don't know what I'll be like the week before. It will be a circus around my house!
I will have my video camera and still camera on the trip. Hey Jimzee, my experience is, the last week, you start talking to yourself a lot. LOL
Ronnie
I'm fully locked and loaded for video editing. We can download everything onto my computer while we're there.
I've been doing some serious research on the lake for that time of year. I have read every fishing report I could find for the last 10 years and I see nothing but good things for that week.
1. Full Moon the Saturday before we get there.
2. The average water temp for the past 10 years has been 60.
3. The fish will bite just about anything. So fish your strengths.
4. There are lots of fish shallow.
From what I've read you can expect 10 to 30 fish a day with 1 out of 10 being 5+. The fish will be in a solid prespawn feeding frenzy. You better have a lipless crankbait tied on. Start with a 1/4 oz in craw or shad colors. Lizards and senkos in greens and browns seem to be the mainstay for soft plastics. Jigs in Black and blue are all I read about but it's hard for me to believe that they wouldn't hit a craw colored one either.
This is my short list
Lipless Cranks
Shallow Cranks
Spinnerbaits
C-Rig and t-Rig lizards
Most of the fish should be shallow (less than 6 ft) but the big ones may be staging hard on points and deeper water close to spawning flats.
Fluke, I think you just kicked things in high gear for me after that post. Talk about motivation! It's on now!
Jig colors:
My favorite down there is a green pumpkin with a few blue strands with a gr pumpkin and blue trailer (Okechobee craw or similar color). It covers the color spectrum pretty well. A bit of green and the blue in one.

To all the Annual BR fishin trip newbies. This will be my second trip, so I can tell you from experience that this board will start looking more and more like a hot pop-corn popper as the big day approaches. LET THE FUN BEGIN!
Getting a guide for one of the days is a huge advantage.
I failed to book one last year and I wasted two days trying to figure things out. The guys who got one were the ones you had the most success. This is also a cost that can be split up.
Glenn got a guide last year and he caught the biggest fish.
Buzzbaitfool12 and clan got one to and they caught the mess out of bass. While most guys were catching 6 or 8 a day they were boating dozens of fish each day.
There is a list of guides on our Guntersville trip website. Check them out and give them a call. We have checked all of them out and they are all reputable.
Just to clarify - I caught that big bass when I wasn't with the guide (just watch the video for proof).

See?? LUCK still plays a big part in it ;D

ok, I think I've reached my max. I need to avoid this thread, it's absolutely ripping at my insides that I won't be there.

Gene did all the leg work researching this post, so I don't want to steal his thunder, but...
Lots of people outside the BR family don't fish the Fat Ika or Kreature, most people don't know about these baits. The cover/ structure/ depth conditions flukemaster describes are IDEAL for fishing these two lures. If this were a tournament or I was trying to compete with you guys, I would not mention them, but as a friend, I STRONGLY suggest picking up a bag or two!

Fluke, FYI....you are not listed on the Roadtrip site as attending.
I gotta talk to Ronnie and see if he would like to book someone.
I guess that's wishfull thinking on Alpsters part. Too bad. I'm coming anyway.
i'm not listed either... :'(
I don't know how flukemaster got bounced from the list, (Glen can edit the site also ) but he is back on and Mass Hole Mike is just the last to sign up. Please remember if you sign up on this thread it may take a day or two to get the website updated. I also included a link to "On Line Fishing Licenses" on the "Look Who's Coming" page.
OK, now all you whiners are on the list. ;D
The rest of you slackers need to get signed up also. "08 NO EXCUSES!"
Ronnie
THANKS RONNIE! ;D
Fluke, If you don't have anyone to share the cost of the guide at G'ville, I'll be happy to do so.
Mike
Shoot LM I'm not going to charge that much. :
Alpster, I think I changed my mind about getting there on Sunday. If you and Speedbead are getting there on Saturday I may do the same. Is anyone else getting there on Saturday? Getting Real Excited Now!! 8-)

Jimzee,
We will likely arrive kind of late on Saturday. We are making the whole trip on Saturday and we have an invite to Riskid's place for dinner along the way. He makes a meal too good to pass up if we can work it out. You hear that Carl??? It looks like it's just me & Wayne.

Hey Ronnie, are you bringing down the Bass Bus this year?

Absolutely! The Bass Bus rolls in March. YaaaHooo!

That MUST be some great food. I cant wait

if other people will be getting there on saturday then i'll book my flight for that morning so that i arrive during the afternoon/early evening. i've got a 3+ hour drive from atlanta to guntersville after flying in from boston which i'll have to plan around, but if other people will be there saturday then so will i.
i'm still looking for someone to share room costs with if anyone's interested.
Guys, just thought I would let you know that there aren't very many cabins left. If you haven't got your cabin and want to stay in one you better get it soon. They only have one chalet left for that week too.

Got a guide booked for Monday. Troy Jens, anglingalabama.com
I'm ready NOW
Ghoti, Flukemaster and I are sharing a guide on Monday also. His name is Jeff. Our guide is a lot better than your guide. Not only that, our guide's mother can beat up your guide's mother. ;D
Ya, but Fluke is better looking that your guide's mother!
Our guide is Tim Chandler.
Once again, I will not be attending the BassResource.com roadtrip. The writing has been on the wall since late November - Early December when the rumors started flying where I work. My wife and I work for the same company which is now laying off 4000 workers and ridding itself of 1500 or so contractors. I think my wife and I will be OK (knock on wood) but we don't want to take any chances with expenses until we know for sure. Have fun, guys. I wish I could be there.
Senile1,
I hope everything works out with your job & family. I will take your name off the list, but will expect to see it go back on when you find the job is secure. Keep us posted.

Ronnie, Directors and their technical teams will not know where the hatchet will fall until after March 1st. I'll be cutting it really close on the time, but we'll see.
Hey guys i just showed my wife the video of last yrs roadtrip and she was really excited she wants to go this yr. but since i am buying a truck then i told her we would have to wait till next yr. hopefully you guys do it again next yr. its awesome that she wants to go so bad. also its good when the wife wants to fish as much as you do. good luck. and how much do you think it costs you guys individually for a trip like this.

Dear Elongated Michael, when Jeff's mommy taps out, stop by and see me. Maybe I'll tell you where we caught all the fish you couldn't find. :D
Ya hear that RW? Mikey has just put in a request for a lesson. Shall we give him one?

I pulled a boat to Fork last year and shared expenses with 5bass and it cost me about 700 bucks. This year will be around 700 but I am getting a guide for a day.

Hey Mike.....when did you become elongated???????? Tooooo funny I can't wait to hear what Ghoti will call you when he sees "THE HELMET"

I showed this to my sweetie. She said, well, we have a spare room. Ask if anybody wants to share, so here we go. We have a cabin reserved for Sunday through Wednesday. We'll be leaving Thursday morning. If that fits your timeframe, send me a PM.
About the only condition I'll insist on is no smoking in the room. My wife is on prescription medications year-round for allergies, so she really can't take it. I've been known to spark up a cigar or two, so you'll have to do what I do, and take it outside.
Also, I like a beer in the afternoon, some wine with dinner and a glass of whiskey with my cigar in the evening. My wife too; except for the cigars and whiskey. If you're offended by drinking, we're not gonna be your ideal roomates. We're not drunks, but we're not teetolalers either.
If anybody is interested, let me know.
Cheers,
GK
Great offer ghoti.
While I might not be staying there, I may have to partake in the festivities with you.
Like you said, I am not a drunk....but I do have an appreciation for malt and hops.

LOOKING FOR TWO ROOMATES
Unfortunately, Jessica Simpson and Gisele Bundchens have cancelled out on me. So, I have a cabin at Guntersville reserved Sunday through Thursday night (arrive 3/23, depart 3/28). Five nights split three ways = $235 each, which includes tax!
I won't smoke in the house, but I do smoke, drink, fart and snore. I like to go to bed early and don't care what you do.
Send me a PM if you want to share lodging, but at this point I'm really interested in "For Sure" not "Maybe". We will not necessarily be fishing together. I am not bringing a boat and with the exception of part of one day, I have made no arrangements. I plan to fish with guys based on the draw.
-Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
RW, pm sent.
(i fart, too. LOTS.)
QuoteGuys, just thought I would let you know that there aren't very many cabins left. If you haven't got your cabin and want to stay in one you better get it soon. They only have one chalet left for that week too.
Thanks for the heads up Jimzee! There are only 20 chalets and 15 cabins in the park, so it stands to reason they would fill up quick. Bear in mind that there are 110 rooms and suites in the lodge, so you still have a chance to get a nice room, but I wouldn't wait till the last minute. I will try to help members get paired up and find accomodations untill the end of February. Send me a PM or post on this thread if you need any help. After March 1, it's every man for himself. LOL
With a little planning, this can be a very inexpensive fishing trip that you couldn't find anywhere else for any price. JMHO

UPDATE
Well, another Patriots fan is taking Gisele's place, so I have one (1) opening left.
Guys, just so some of you know as Fluke said, this trip is not that expensive. My cost for the week is going to be $681.00 and that includes a cabin from 3/22 to 3/28, gas for towing the boat down and back, and gas for the boat all week. Tell me where else you can get that kind of deal. For those of you thinking about going but not sure, this will give you a little insight on what to expect.
For the guys that have been on these trips before:
Do you all set a certain time for everyone to be off the lake to eat dinner? The reason I ask is I usually fish from dawn to dark and was wondering if most of you do the same?
There was no time set as to what time we were to be off the lake. But dinner was served at 7:00 if memory serves.
ok.. ok.. Sure tempt me and leave me.. I would love to go.. But one unfortunate thing... Due to a recent divorce and other difficulties... I am without boat and fun... I hope everyone has a great time... LOL...
QuoteFor the guys that have been on these trips before:Do you all set a certain time for everyone to be off the lake to eat dinner? The reason I ask is I usually fish from dawn to dark and was wondering if most of you do the same?
You can do what you want, but dinner is (probably) at 7:00 and my momma told me
"Never eat on an empty stomach."
Cocktails are a bit earlier.
Non-boaters are welcome to come. Everyone goes fishing no matter what. NO ONE is left on the shore!
Cant....Take.....the pressure..... >
Time....must.....go faster!!!!!!
This looks realy fun. Too bad im too poor to afford the plane ticket
another step closer!
i just got off the phone with the airline, i'll be arriving in atlanta, ga on march 23rd at 9am and then driving out to g'ville which will be about a 3 hour drive. i should be at the lake around noon on sunday.
my return flight leaves on the 28th at 6pm which means i'll be leaving alabama around 12 or 1 to get to the airport on time. what time is everyone else planning on leaving on the last day?
the best part is that i had a $280 credit with the airline and my round trip tickets only cost $240. which is actually kinda sucky because that's $40 i'll never see again, but oh well.
i'm just stoked because i've got my room and my plane tickets both all set. all that's left is setting up a rental car for the week and i'll be good to go.
VIVA LA GUNTERSVILLE!
Whoa!
Let's see if you can't catch a ride from Atlanta, you don't need a car.
that'd be a lot better for me, but i'd hate to inconvenience anyone by them having to go out of their way. i don't mind renting a car, unless someone wants to volunteer their services. i'd even pay for gas, tolls and whatever else for the ride.
btw RW, check's in the mail for the room. thanks again!
I might be able to pick you up. The airport is 3hrs from my house and just a little detour but no big deal. I just can't remember if I took off work Saturday night. I will have to check my schedule when I get to work tonight. Other than that there won't be a problem picking you up and taking you back. I used to work at the Atlanta airport so I know my way around that place. Now I will be towing a boat so I will have to pick you up curbside so I will be late on purpose. I'll PM you my phone number and well work out the details.
i can't get over the generosity displayed by the members of this site. LBH coming through with the bazuka tube for my rods, RW hooking me up with a room for the week, and now fluke offering to go out of his way to pick my skinny @ss up at the airport.
this place really is like a family. dysfunctional.... maybe, but still a family!

Haha, you definitely got that last part right.....
Quoteand now fluke offering to go out of his way to pick my skinny @ss up at the airport.
First of all it's not realy out of my way. I could drive through Atlanta traffic and not pick you up. Or I could drive around Atlanta traffic and swing into the airport and pick you up. I don't see how that's out of my way.
Second of all. You offered to help with gas. 8-)
Keri and I arrive in Birmingham airport @ 4:00pm Sunday. So we'll be there sometime Sunday evening. Leaving Birmingham at 11:30am on Friday.
We would have flown to Atlanta, but it was a longer flight and $400 more expensive.
Glenn, you and Keri renting a boat?
We will be with a guide on Monday, and I believe we're going out with RW on Tuesday. And Gene is being very generous and is loaning his boat to us for the rest of the week.
It always amazes me the generousity of our members. You'd think I'd get used to it by now, but I'm not. You guys are incredible!!
Ok guys, I'm going to modify my offer.
Fluke sent me a PM saying Senko77 needed a place to stay for a couple of nights. I PM'ed him, and he will be occupying one of the spare beds for two nights; Monday and Tuesday.
There's another bed available for Sunday through Wednesday night. We'll be leaving Thursday morning.
I'm not charging Senko77 for the room. I'm won't charge anybody else for the other bed either.
Need a place to stay for four nights, or less? It's yours, if you don't mind sharing a room and bath with Senko77.
Again, the only thing I insist on is no smoking in the room.
Send me a PM if you want it. First come, first served.
Cheers,
GK
Only on BR,...VERY nice offer Ghoti
Glenn, I'm driving from Tulsa. I'll be hitting Birmingham about the time you get there. I'll be more than happy to pick you and Keri up. Also, your departure date and time fit neatly within my time frame, so I'll be happy to drop you off at the airport on the way out. But ... it's gonna cost you. To be precise, one (1) BassResource.com T-Shirt, size XL and one (1) BassResource.com cap.

I just spoke with my guide, Troy Jens. He is available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (3/26, 3/27 & 3/28). ghoti has him booked Monday and I'm fishing with him Tuesday. So, if you are intersted in a guide, here is his website:

Does Guntersville have Florida strain Largemouth or Northern strain?
Northern strain.
I wanted to stop in and say hello...! Looks like I'll be fishing with a few of you during your visit to Guntersville. I know you will all love being here, it's a great lake to fish with a lot to see and do. I've guided full time here for 13 years. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions and I'll be glad to help.
Looking forward to seeing all of you in March!

GOOD GAWWWD!!!!!
50 days and counting.....
Troy:
Thanks for dropping in. I fished Big G with you about 5 years ago, and I learned a valuable lesson about topwater and blue bird skies. You landed a 5+ lbr on a Spittin Image in S Sauty on a nasty North wind, blue bird, post front day.
Hope all is well with you. The fish in my pic came from down there last year. Guntersville is an amazing fishery for sure!
Guys: Troy is a really nice person, and one heck of a guide. Even if it's tough day, you'll enjoy being on the water with him.
I've been out with several guides down there, and IMHO, he and Tim Chandler are the real deal as far as knowing the lake and being professional guides.
QuoteNorthern strain.
Then Big-G has HUGE northern strain bass. Amazing.
Welcome Troy!
For those of us that are not going, who do you call for biggest fish? I got SPEEDBEAD or Alpster Don't let me down boys!!!
(PS- Guided catches don't count)
I hate to jinx it, but I'm thinking Shadcranker for big fish. Only reason I'm saying this is because I've paid my dues there, and if the fishing gods have any sense of justice, I'm due an 8+ lbr.
I've got 10+ years of $$, licenses, guides, gas to and from Nashville, and I'm hoping that with four full days down there, I can snag ole Eunice.
I've caught one just shy of eight and bunches of 5's and 6's there, but I've never been during "prime time" for more than one day.
All that said, the real pressure is going to be guiding Riskkid for the week. He made up this crazy story that I guaranteed multiple 5+lb fish per day. Hog-wash!
The potential is there for someone to catch a double digit fish. I saw a 31 lb, 5 fish bag there in a tourney last January anchored by a 10 and 11 lbr.
How could I not root for you too then??? CATCH 'EM UP GUYS!!! PB'S FOR EVERYONE!!!! WOOHOOO

Well, we do have control of the meatballs until Monday night.....Ronnie, maybe the Guntersville bass will like a little "Italian Chum Bucket"
They will be calling their big sisters in from miles around...
Does anyone have a number for Troy Jens? I emailed him on Monday and I still have not heard anything from him.
Thank ya
According to his website, Troy Jens phone number is 256-683-7934.

Keep trying, Troy is a busy man. I asked him to give us a couple
of days before booking anyone else the week of the 23rd. As of
Monday, he is available 3/26, 3/27 & 3/28.
BTW,
As an additional reference, Troy was recommended to me by
George Welcome.

Thanks for the heads up.

Great to have another one aboard!!!!!!!!!!!
Nope,it ain't been wet yet.Yep,it's coming with me.
Thanks for the welcome guys!
Now this I gotta see....The pic of that boat is BAD ARSE!!!!!!!
First off, my vacancy (cabin) is filled.
Second:
I bought a 1 lb spool of original Yo-Zuri Hybrid #15 which I will bring to Guntersville. If anyone wants to spool up a baitcaster and give this line a try, leave one reel unspooled for the trip and I will fix you up!
Third:
I am a non-boater and rather than hustling around for a seat, I am planning to fish a couple of days with someone randomly drawn. I think this will be fun and hope we all (non-boaters) will have an opportunity to fish with some guys we might not otherwise know. If you're in this same "boat" (pun intended), relax! As Glenn has already stated, NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.
8-)
My cabin is not filled. We'll be there Sunday, leaving Thursday morning, so I have a spare bed for four nights.
Free to whomever asks. Senko77 will be in one bed for two nights. The other bed is there for the taking.
First come, first served.

You and me both buddy, you and me both....say it with me:
VIVA LA GUNTERSVILLE!!
VIVA LA GUNTERSVILLE!
the worst part of it is that i've got hundreds of dollars of new gear sitting in my room that i probably won't even be able to use until the trip. i organize and re-organize all my lures and terminal tackle at least twice a week. i oiled, greased and cleaned my reels the other day, consolidated all my plastics into bigger bags by brand, size and color, put all my reels on my rods just to see how they feel... i'm seriously going crazy up here!
two weeks ago when it was warmer out and all the snow was gone i was out in the driveway every day after work practicing casting with my baitcast setups, but now it's been raining/sleeting/snowing/freezing rain/etc. for the last 10 days or so and i can't even do that. at least i've got the last few issues of BASS magazine that i've already re-read ten times to hold me over. :-/
Deadline for making reservations is 2/23. You'd better get to gettin' if you're going to come!
So far we have a 100% increase of people coming this year over last. No doubt this event will continue to explode in popularity. This is your chance to be there from the beginning!
I also have a few nice suprises for those attending. I'm not saying anything further on that. You'll just have to be there to find out!
Looking forward to Guntersville!
My new Bassmaster magazine came today. the Astro / lunar table shows Full moon, Friday the 21st.
Watch the Gutersville water temps (you can usually see them on the guides' reports on Bass Fishing Home Page). If the surface temps get into the low to mid 60's by that week, we should have a big wave of fish up shallow and bedding. If the temps stay in the 50's, we'll have some up scouting, but the vast majority of the fish should still be pre-spawn or at least not locked on yet.
Either way, I think most of the fish are going to be pre-spawn, which sets up for a good "hardbait" bite in 3-8 ft on the flats, points, and outside grass edges.
How do you guys feel about having a "Show N Tell" during and after dinner each night?
We could have an open floor so anyone could get up and show what they learned that day or give instruction on what is working. It could be a question and answer time as well. I would be glad to kick it off each night but I don't want to be the only one doing it.

Besides, I will have some cool pictures of SPEEDBEAD after I lose my temper and toss him in the water if we get SKUNKED.
There is a link on the Roadtrip website to order licenses 'on line' also.
Ronnie
Although I couldn't find license info on the Roadtrip site, I simply Googled "Alabama Fishing License." Fifteen minutes later my new license was printed out and in my hands. Piece of cake.

Hey Speedbead, when you jump in, give us some warning. I want a pic too. ;D ;D ;D
Got my beer ordered for the trip. One of my kids is in the Air Force, staioned at the St Louis base, and will pick some up for me at the base exchange.
I'm ready to fish. And I'm ready for the beer swap.
What beer swap? Is this a private thing?
QuoteWhat beer swap? Is this a private thing?
It has just kind of picked up Mike.
I promised Jimzee some Yuengling, RW some dark beer from the local brewery and GHOTI is getting whatever I feel like
Care to partake, Mike?
Like I said, I am not getting loaded, just providing some beverages...
Some fun and informational reading for the upcoming trip....

Speedbead and I need some help if anyone can....
I have my heart set on pulling my boat behind the BassBus to Guntersville for Steve & I to fish in for the week. It's a 16' aluminum V-hull. I do not own an outboard because you can't put an outboard in fresh water where I live, all the lakes are electric only.
I have rented several motors in different places on my trips to Canada. However, I have called every place I can think of in my area and in Alabama and have drawn a blank. It seems no one rents an outboard alone.
I am hoping that someone in NJ, Eastern PA or anywhere along our route to Guntersville (I-81 SW to I-40 to I-75 to I-59) has a small outboard we could use for the week. We don't need much. A 9.9 or 15 hp kicker with a tiller will do. The boat is rated for up to 40hp so anything up to that with a tiller, would be great. I am happy to pay rent, make a deposit and I will be fully responsible for the motor. I will treat it like a baby and return it better than I got it.
If you have one or know of someone or a commercial rental along our route, Wayne & I would greatly appreciate if you can help us get hooked up. If I have to, I will even look at buying a used motor on ebay or whatever, but consider this a last resort as I would promptly sell it as soon as I return. I can't justify owning, storing and maintaining a motor for use once a year.
If you can help a brutha out send me a PM and I will be in touch. TIA
Ronnie
PS- I had no Idea this would be so difficult.
I'll do everything in my power to help you out Ronnie by asking everyone I know if they have a motor to use. 8-)

Thanks Jimzee! I really appreciate it.

QuoteThanks everyone for looking, we really appreciate it.Ronnie, my name is Wayne LOL
I am sorry Wayne, I had just got off the phone with a guy named Steve when I made that post and it's just the way my mind works. I do that all the time. My close friends have given up hearing their correct name from me. I always call my daughters by the other ones name first. Sucks to get old.

RW, that is something I will never be late for (except maybe if the fish are biting)
Muddy....right back at ya LOL
I am compelled to share this one with you guys. This is one for the Bass Resource record books.
As you know Speedbead & I are trying to rent a little outboard motor to clamp on the transom of my boat to use on the Guntesville trip. After searching and calling for days and drawing a blank, Speedbead suggested we post on the Roadtrip thread and let the fellas know what we need to see if anyone can point us to a place where we can score little motor. As you can see, many guys are already beating the bushes to help us find what we need. No surprise there because you guys are awesome.
I must tell you I wasn't prepared for the PM I received from "frogtog" while I was having my coffee this morning. Basically the message was "my 20' Skeeter is here for you to use if you can come by to pick it up".
I about choked on my coffee. We are completely blown away by his amazing offer. Wayne and I talked about it and we are VERY RESPECTFULLY declining the offer. We would be so worried about something happening to that boat that we might not enjoy the fishing, if that's possible. But I have to tell you, in that one gesture, I learned a lot about frogtog. His offer to trust us with his fancy boat shows me his priorities are in order. He owns his toys, they don't own him. I am continuously amazed at how this community operates the way it does and Wayne & I are feeling pretty privileged to be a part of it right now.
Absolutely unbelievable!!! THANKS frogtog!!!
Ronnie
That was a hell of a gesture but honestly, I'm not really surprised by his offer. He was a stand up guy in my book before, even more so now.
That just sent chills up my spine! Good ones!
All I can say is WOW!!

Me either, the gift Jimmy got me on the Xmas exchange was way more than any guy could expect or ask for! Frogtog is a hell of a guy!
Look foward to hearing back from ya'll! Good Luck! I hope ya'll whack em'! CJ
Ok, I was just looking at the Trip site.
UNDER 30 DAYS TO GO!!!
Ronnie, I believe Bud confirmed that he is not going to be in attendance. I wasnt sure if you wanted to take him off the list so everyone has an accurate outlook on the boat situation.
Wayne
Bud also informed me he isn't going to be able to make it.
I'm chompin' at the bit too, Speedbead!
Hey guys, I'm in. I will be coming in Sunday for the duration with a boat & one open seat. I'm looking forward to meeting and fishing with everyone. Any open rooms/beds available? Hated to wait so late to signup but being self employed meant waiting to see what March would bring and I'm inking in this trip as of now. ;D
Glad to see your coming!
You need to check with ghoti. Last I heard he had a spot left.
Thats great to hear!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the party!!!!!!

I think ghoti has an opening, but if you don't get something lined up with another member, we'll make room in our 3-bed cabin if a floor mattress or the couch works for you. Let's see how things shake-out, but that's an invitation to you.

Thanks for the offer, Kent. Ghoti has contacted me already. He's leaving out on Thursday, sooo I might have to take you up on it for one night. I'll probably check on a room for the one night. One night on the floor and I probably couldn't straighten up the next day. Can't wait guys!!
I know I'm being a little premature, (my wife tells me that a lot) but if we are going to have evening get-togethers, where will they be held? Also, if we are going to have meals prepared by the members where will the food preparation take place? Also, what, if any, are the rules and regulations for the use of the facilities? e.g. Is BYOB acceptable? Smoking? Topless dancers?
Ronnie, When should we pay for the catered dinner? I will pay mine through Paypal if you have a link. I will be paying for three dinners.

Mike,
There is a covered pavilion with tables that we will be using for a fee on Monday and Tuesday evening. Glen is graciously paying for this. The food will be prepared at this site with my portable cooking equipment. Wednesday night is the catered dinner in the Lodge dinning hall. After that members are on their own for dinner. We want members to be free to take advantage of the local hospitality and get together as they see fit so as not to have to adhere to a rigid schedule every night. Here is a link to a PDF file of the rules and regulations for all state parks in AL.
http://www.alapark.com/parks/Rules%20and%20Regulations.pdf
I will post this on the website also.
There are no specific alcohol prohibitions (except glass bottles) and there is no reference to smoking or topless dancers except that state laws must be obeyed. 8-)

Ronnie, if you would like to put the banquet on my card, that is cool with me.
I LOVE TO EARN POINTS!!!! LOL
Ronnie, I don't do Paypal, so how, and when, do I pay for the catered dinner? I'll be paying for two.
Also, I no longer have a bed available. Electrikal is joining us, and will take the spare bed for four nights.
Cheers,
GK
I have a to speak to the convention coordinator at Guntersville state park one more time. I have a couple of questions that need an answer. As soon as I hear from her, I will post instructions on how to pay by check and by Paypal. Thanks for bearing with me.
Ronnie
To all attendees of the Guntersville Road Trip,
Our first two evening meals together, (Monday & Tuesday) are being furnished by BR members (MUDDY MAN'S MEATBALLS Monday and GHOTI'S CAMP DELIGHT Tuesday) and will be free for all who attend. Glenn has reserved and PAID FOR the "Earwood Pavilion" for our dinner gatherings on Monday and Tuesday. THANK YOU GLENN!! On Wednesday. however, in order to have a particularly memorable evening of fellowship and fish stories, we will be having a BBQ Feast catered by the Guntersville State Park.
It is time to get paid up for the Wednesday night catered dinner. We have the "Hickory Room" reserved. It has a 'Sports Bar' atmosphere, and is on the ground floor. The cost is $18.00 for each individual who will be attending. This price is all inclusive. It covers the buffet dinner, a 20% gratuity and AL sales tax. It is important that everyone participate as there is a requirement for a minimum of 50 people to get this deal. I would like to see everyone's payment made within the next 2 weeks, if possible.
If you want to make your payment via Paypal you need to follow these instructions carefully.
1. Send your paypal payment to - derslar@knology.net (this is flukemaster's paypal account)
2. The convenience of Paypal comes with a cost. You must add 3.5% for a total of $18.63.
3. VERY IMPORTANT! You must send a PM (personal message) to flukemaster on the forum and let him know what email address is connected to YOUR paypal account and who else , if anyone, you are paying for, so we can identify who has paid and for whom.
If you prefer to send a check, mail a check in the amount of $18.00 paid to the order of "ALPS" (not alpster) to the following address: Please put your BR screen name and the first name(s) of anyone else for whom you are paying on the memo line of your check. Send it to:
If you are signed up, you will recieve an address to send your check via a PM. If you do not, send a PM to Alpster and I will reply with the address.
I will be noting on the website who has paid by putting a $$$ next to your name on the sign up page. If you don't make your payment within the next couple of weeks, I will begin to torment you until you do. ;)LOL Seriously, it will save your humble trip coordinator and his devoted helpers, much angst if you make your payment ASAP. I hope you are as excited as I am about this trip.
If you have any questions or there is anything I can do to help you get prepared for the road trip, please send me a PM. Just 25 more days........ 8-)
Ronnie

Just goes to show how we roll around here!
Thank you very much, Mike!
Thank you, that was very nice.

I was thinking.....
We are having Muddy's awesome meatballs on Monday, Long Mike is bringing the Garlic bread (Thanks Mike), Ghoti is making us a feast on Tuesday, a catered BBQ Buffet on Wednesday. I had an idea.....
...as long as we are at the lake, why don't we do a little bass fishing between the meals?

OK, my stuff is ready to go. It was 36 degrees with drizzling rain and trying to snow here yesterday. The bassbuss is in the shop getting fixed up. I couldn't play in there, so I had a nice relaxing day cleaning oiling and organizing my gear for the Gville trip. Are we there yet???
Ronnie
I'm ready. Riskkid and I were supposed to head down last weekend, but I ended up with the darn flu.
We may try to head down this coming weekend to do a bit of scouting.
For what it's worth, here's my tackle list for the big trip later in the month:
- Strike King Series 3 and Series 5 CB's in shad and Chart patterns
- XCalibur XR 50 and XR 75 Rattlebaits in Red and shad patterns
- 3/8 oz Gambler Swimblade in white (Chatterbait type)
- 5" and 6" Senkos in Watermelon and green colors
- 6" and 8" Zoom Lizards (greens)
- 4" Flippin Tubes (greens)
- Yum Doozie tubes
- 8" Zoom Big Dead Ringer in Watermelon (for swimming)
- 3/8 oz white and chart spinnerbait
- 3/8 oz jig in Green Pumpkin / Blue combo
- Swimbaits in shad patterns (King shad and Basstrix)
- Pointer 100 Jerkbait in shad patterns
- #7 Shad Rap in shad pattern
- Stanley Ribbit (if water gets in 60's)
Primary baits in bold
Bad news folks. Fishfordollars, one of my room-mates and my potential G'ville mentor, has been placed in a head/neck halo for the next six to eight weeks. That means he has screws embedded in his skull to hold him perfectly rigid. It also means that he will not make it it G'ville, so we will have one less boat available.
Fishfordollars' departure also leaves an empty bed available for anyone interested in sharing 1/3 the cost of a room for the week.
That sucks Mike, I am sure we can get you hooked up with a ride
In response to KU Bassmasters post in another area of the forum, I do not currently have a decent PFD.
Does anyone attending the trip have an extra they could loan to me?
I got an extra one Speedbead. I'll make sure I bring it.
CJ
Awesome, thanks CJ.
Dang, that didnt take long LOL
i'm right there with speedbead, i don't have a pfd of my own, so if someone could loan me one that'd be great.
Don't worry about it, all boaters have extras and I'll bring one for you anyhow.

I already had Speedbead covered, so if CJ don't mind your using his, it's all good. I have extras still, if needed.
Ronnie
ALSO... 14 guys have already paid up for the Wednesday night dinner. Good Job! Keep those cards and letters comming!
excellent, thanks guys!
I regretfully announce that I will not be attending the Guntersville trip; I wanted to attend this trip even more than Fork for many reasons. First was to meet everyone listed at Ronnie's web site, second I have a nephew in Birmingham whom I've never fished with, & thirdly I have a friend who like all of y'all I have known only through the internet and really wanted to meet him for a day on the lake. I take this as a huge disappointment in my fishing career but I would like for y'all to send a PM to a member Logan the friend I mentioned asking him to attend.
Tommy T :'(
Dang Catt. I hope everything work's out all right for you. It must be something serious to keep you away. Whatever it is, we know you can handle it.
You're one of the guys I hoped to wet a line with. See you somewhere down the road. Just don't take too long. We ain't gettin' any younger, ya know?
Cheers,

I was looking forward to meeting you, Catt.
I hope to see you next time.

This stinks. People are droping like flies. Catt I was looking forward to chewing the fat with you. I guess I will have to find a way to get to T-Bend.
Was very much looking forward to meeting you. Dangit!
Ok y'all trying to make a grown man cry :'(
BIG disappointment for me too! I hope all goes well for you Catt.

BTW, 17 days!!!!!!
Next Sunday the 16th I will go to Harrisburg to hand off the meatballs to Speedbead. This way he and Ronnie do not have to go out of their way to pick them up on the way to Bama. I am making the meatballs and I will supply the cans of tomatoes and paste with my recipie to make the sauce. Ronnie is more than capable as a cook and he gets the recipie. If I can't be there at least I can still cook for you ENJOY!!!!!!!
You da MAN!

Notice how I deftly swindled Muddy out of that recipe. You are 'DA MAN' Dominick!
I got the bassbuss out of the shop today and she's tuned up and purring like a kitten. Almost had 3 wrecks coming home, the bassbuss kept trying to head for the interstate, had to wrestle her back to the house, just 16 more days.
ANOTHER REMINDER TO GET PAID UP FOR THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER. 8-)
If you are signed up for the trip and did not get a PM from me, let me know and I will send you instructions on how to send a check or use PAYPAL. ARE WE THERE YET???
Ronnie
I just wanted to say a quick thank you to Dom for the meatballs. I am crazy about Italian food, thanks a lot buddy!!
Reality hit me today about the trip. I made an appointment for next Thursday to get a new impellar installed at my local marina. There is nothing wrong with the one in there, it's just been in there going on five years and I don't want anything ruining this trip. The week after that, it's go time. I can't believe how fast it snuck up on me. I don't think I've ever been this excited to go on a fishing trip.
WOO HOO!!! Two weeks to go. I am leaving Saturday the 22nd at 6 am. 517 miles and 9.5 hours of driving. I can't wait!!!
i can't remember the last time i've been this excited about ANYTHING. maybe when i was a little hellion waiting for christmas morning. i've been counting the days for a couple weeks now. i think me and flukemaster might be some of the first ones there, my flight lands in atlanta around 9:30 on the 23rd and gene said we should be in guntersville around noon or a little after. SWEEEEET....
And on the water by 1:30.
Went to Big G today-TOUGH!
Only caugh one fish in 6 hrs- solid 3 lb fish on a deep CB in 8 ft on a grass edge. Had two other bites. One tap on a tube and another swipe at the CB.
Water was 46 when we launched and 51 when we left.
Calm blue bird skies and extremely high pressure. We had 5" of snow in our area Friday night and Sat, so I'm sure the front hurt em, but it was brutal for me today.
Good news- weather calling for lows in 40's- low 50's and high around 70 much of the week. The water should be up to 60 by next weekend, and if it holds we should have big waves of fish moving up for our trip.
I doubt many fish are going to spawn on the March full moon around the 21st. Maybe some will be on bed upriver. I think we'll be on a pre-spawn pattern for sure, with lots of fish up shallow looking.
Found lots of good green grass and fish all over the graph. Fish just had lock-jaw today.
Still a nice day to be out on the water.
SC
Well, I am glad you didnt hook all of them!!!! Look at it this way, thats more for us to catch in two weeks LOL
I am just looking forward to water that isnt white....
and solid!!!!!!
Message for Senko77..............
It seems that Speedbead is afraid that you might catch a bass bigger than you are. So, in the interest of fattening you up a little bit, he has covered the cost of your Wednesday night dinner. Way to go Wayne!
I am right proud to be riding with this posse!! 8-)

Wow! That's another BIG disappointment, I was really looking forward to meeting you. BUMMER.
Ronnie
P.S. - Don't worry, I will send you some pictures of Muddy's meatballs.
If you made reservations, and are now not going, you have to call to cancel your reservations. Otherwise you might get billed.
only 11 days!
Bad news guys. As of today there is a very strong possibility that I will not be able to afford to make the trip. I have a cabin reserved, but one of my room-mates has had to cancel due to injury. My other room-mate has failed to return repeated calls to his home and his cell phone. I finally got in touch with him today at work. He was very wishy-washy about whether or not he is going to make the trip and told me he would let me know tomorrow. Yeah, right! And the check is in the mail!
I will give JeremyT the doubt and contact him tomorrow, but I'm sure that he will tell me that he can't make it. That being the case, there is no way that I can afford to pay a week's rent for a cabin occupied by myself alone. I will therefore be forced to cancel my room reservation and my trip to Guntersville. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about it.
My only recourse at this point is to fervently hope for a cancellation by one of the other members that would result in a bed coming open in one of the other cabins.
IF LONG MIKE DON"T GET SOME HELP HERE>>>>NO MEATBALLS!
(just kiddin)
Hey Mike,
Hang in there buddy. It ain't over until it's over.

Just playin'! ;D
Welcome to our crew!
Chris
Chris, it's a fishing trip! I will accept nothing less than good ole' Western Kentucky redneck Anglish and all the four letter words that go with it. Farts are optional.
Gentlemen, I will be off the board until next Sunday night. I'm headed for Lake Fork at 4:00 AM. If any of you needs to contact me, PM the Mods or Muddy. They all have my cell phone number. Wish me luck.
best of luck at fork mike. and don't worry about me, the shining gloriousness of the pfluegers doesn't affect me anymore. in fact, i can't sleep without it's presence.
tight lines!
QuoteOnce again, I will not be attending the BassResource.com roadtrip.
The layoffs where I work (Sprint) are taking place today and tomorrow. I just found out that I'll still be a working man tomorrow. I believe my wife is in the clear too. It's a little late to plan a Guntersville trip but I am extremely thankful that we both made the cut. You guys are going to have a great time with lots of stories to tell.
Long Mike, I'm glad you were able to make it. Kudos to RW, Mike, and CJ!

Congratulations on missing the ax this go around. I hope it is as well with your wife. It's not too late to make it to Guntersville. It would be quite a celebration. Get back in the game. We would love to see you there.
Ronnie
Thanks, Ronnie. I would love to be there but I can't take vacation days on such short notice. You guys be careful and catch some hawgs.
Hate to add to the list, but I had a bomb dropped in my general direction at work today, and I cannot take off that week after all. I think my pal, Riskkid is coming on down without me. :'( :'(
Hate to miss it. I may come down one day if possible.
You guys whack em good now. Don't get discouraged if it gets slow during stretches. Keep covering water, and when you find em, sloooooow down. They group up in that grass. You guys will love the lake.
For those of you that want to make a short field trip one day, or go there by boat (dock right accross from store), Waterfont Grocery is a must hit local bait store with food and nice folks running it. Most of the guides hang out there. The bait monkey lives there, but he's a friendly little primate.
SC
man, major bummer losing all these guys. i was really looking forward to meeting catt and shadcranker, along with everyone else that isn't able to make it anymore.
8 days fellas!
Only one week left! 7 DAYS!! Yee Haw!
Me and Speedbead will meet somehwere between Hazelton and Harrisburg tommorow so i can hand over the meatballs, there is something illegal about all this
I leave a week from today at 6 am. I picked up the boat yesterday from the marina. I got my new impeller installed, had the trailer bearings packed, got the lower unit oil changed, and a scheduled maintanence tuneup. I am locked and loaded. I am putting line on all my reels right now. It's hard to believe the only thing I have left to do is buy my fishing license online and pack my clothes. I have been waiting for this trip since last April.
i still have a few small loose ends to wrap up, like picking up at least one pair of sunglasses and packing clothes, but aside from that i am good to go. i got my license the other day online, it's super quick and easy to do and i suggest anyone that hasn't gotten theirs yet do so online. you can print it right out and you're on your way.
i've actually got a few questions that may come off as noob-ish, but this is my first big fishing trip and i'd like to be as prepared as possible.
first, how much is too much as far as rods and tackle when fishing on someone else's boat? i'm only going to be bringing 4 rod set ups down with me, and my tackle bag only stores 3 boxes but i'll have another bag of just soft plastics that'll probably stay in the room save for a few bags each day. would the tackle bag and 4 rods be too much as a non-boater? i just don't want to clutter up someone else's boat deck.
second, expense-wise how much am i looking at spending each day i'm there? i plan on chipping in for gas money every day, as well as any snacks or lunches, but i wasn't sure how much i should really plan on spending while i'm down there. any ideas?
i had a few more i can't think of right now. any help is greatly appreciated guys.
Hey Mike,
Last year at Fork, because I got screwed pretty hard by "Ricky the boat renter" I did all my fishing from the back of another members boat.
I HOPE I THANKED YOU ALL PROPERLY!!!
Everyone knows I have XXX number (way too many) rods/reels. The average boat won't hold all the crap I've got, so I chose 2 bait casting setups and one spinning rig and my big Okachobie bag. (one bag only) so I could share my baits with my partner for the day. I also have a little soft six-pack cooler to carry snack crackers, candy bars a sandwich (and one to share) and a couple of sodas/bottled waters. Don't count on being able to stop and buy lunch, have it with you. Be respectful of someone else's boat by being careful not step on the seats or spill stuff on the carpets. Always put on your PFD when the gas motor is running. At the end of the day help clean up (pick up all the old torn up plastics and lunch trash, etc.) and help get the boat ready for the next day. $20-25 a day should cover your part of fuel unless you do a lot of running. Best thing you can do is ASK. "Hey can I help you wash the boat?" "Are you sure that's enough to cover the gas?" etc. I am sure you know what to do.
Let me tell you, DON"T WORRY! These are some of the best people you will ever run across. Last year I got to fish with flechero, BigHead and Art Pasley. We had one slammin good time. I would jump at the chance to fish with any of these guys anytime! You are going to have the time of your life! I hope this helps.
Ronnie
Mike,
When we get into Alabama I am going to stop at a WalMart to pick up my license and we can fill my cooler with drinks and lunch stuff for the week. The cabins have fridges and like last year I will be making my lunch every morning. So plan on doing the same and there will be room in my cooler for your food as well.
So are you excited yet?
Just the fact that you are thinking these questions ahead of time, assures me you'll have no issues. Fluke and Ronnie gave great advice and these are 2 of the above mentioned "great" people that will be around you.
Any questions, just ask one of them.
It was a pretty day today, almost 60 degrees. I spent most of the day loading up the bassbuss and getting her ready to go. All the cooking stuff, pots, pans and the ice chests. Cleaned and polished and vaccumed, made sure all of the provisions are in place. Made all the beds with fresh linens. Checked all the fluids, changed the oil, aired up the tires, installed the GPS, MP3 player and XM-Radio. Next Saturday at this time me & Speedbead will be on the road to riskkid's place to enjoy an evening of food and fellowship. Sunday morning, it's on to Guntersville! Life is good and I am blessed!
Ronnie
Well it's starting to look as though we planned this trip at the perfect time.
Guntersville currently has water temps in the upper 50's with no major cold fronts in the next few days. The water is stained. The fish were on grass edges in 3-8ft of water this past week. They haven't moved shallow yet but if we get a week of good temps then "LOOK OUT". It will be on.
My plan going into this is to cover some water with a spinnerbait and Med Cranks and lipless crank. The areas I am focusing on are the sharp bends in creeks and ditches. With points and grass nearby. When I get a bite I will slow down and work several different rigs along the edges of grass including a Jig, C-Rig, T-rig and Dropshot.
The reason I am saying this is because this is what I do all the time. My suggestion to everyone who hasn't fished allot of different water is to fish your strengths at first and catch a few fish. Then branch out and learn new tricks from those who you are fishing with. If you are new to bass fishing then don't feel intimidated. Jump up on the front deck and ask your partner to show you how to do it.
You guys are making me even more excited every time someone posts on this thread. I am ready to go now! Gonna be real hard on a fella waiting this coming week.
It will seem like an eternity. ;D
Jimzee,
The bassbuss is pretty full. I am having trouble finding a place to put them crankbait boxes I got from KB. ;) ;D

thanks for the replies guys.
Relax...things will go smoothly. Bring what you like, but I will have snacks and drinks for our cabin. I consolidated a bag for what I'm taking, then downsized some more for a small plastic box for everthing I plan to fish.
Rods and reels are not a problem, either. Bring what is easy on the plane, we have a few guys with extras! Pack one suitcase, you don't need everything you own.
8-)
Heck I'm getting excited and can't even go. Yall have fun!!!

Like RW says,
Wayne & I will be in the BassBuss (AKA Bass Pro Shops on wheels). We will have pounds of plastic, etc. I will have a dozen or so rigs that are pretty decent, they just look funny because the guides go around the blank.
Ronnie
I'm going to have a few Dobyn's Rods to loan out as well.
I talked with Muddy about an hour ago. Speedbead was sick today, so the "Meatball Connection" will go down tomorrow. I am going to write a book and make it into a movie. Wonder if I can get DiNero to play Muddy (You talkin to me??)
I had to chain the bass bus to a tree, keeps trying to leave without me. Are we there yet??
Ronnie
Ya definitely got the sick part right....I felt like I was gonna die. LOL
I will be meeting Muddy tomorrow somewhere north of Harrisburg. I obviously cant give away the exact location as then "the boys" would have to be called in to keep people quiet
Anyway, I am so pumped up for this trip that I cant even put it into words....
Good luck guys! Wish I could make this deal sometime! We will be on pins and needles looking for reports/pics whatever you can get out! I want to see some slabs!
Happy Releasing,
H.G.
QuoteI want to see some slabs!
Slabs? We ain't fishing for Crappie. lol
You leaving the Snoopy rods home this year ;D
Nope, they are on the packing list.
Hey youse Mods, is anyone going to PM the contact info for the attendees?
We are working on it and haven't forgot about you Mooks.
For all of those coming to the dinner Wednesday night, I hope you've paid up by now. Otherwise you are not accounted for and will not be able to attend.
Sorry, but we had to let the hotel know the head count by now. It's a done deal.
it hit me good yesterday when i looked at the clock and it was 1:30 and i thought to myself "by this time next sunday i'll be fishing in alabama...."
i can't wait any longer!
as far as luggage is concerned i'm going to try to fit my clothes for the week + my backpack of plastics + my 3-box okechobee fats tackle bag all into one bag. my reels, one change of clothes and toothbrush are going in my carry-on, and i'm going to stuff some smaller clothes into russ' bazooka tube as well.
i hadn't even thought of food, to be honest. i'll have to grab a small cooler to stuff some sodas and snacks in for the day.
the only bad part about all this is knowing i WILL forget something important for this trip. i'm going to go make myself a check list of stuff so i can keep adding to it as more responses are posted.
Mike, like some of the other guys said...I wouldnt worry about forgetting something b/c chances are someone down there will have an extra or 10
I will be going to meet Muddy today after I get off work to make the pick up.
I know what's for dinner tonight
Quote...i hadn't even thought of food, to be honest. i'll have to grab a small cooler to stuff some sodas and snacks in for the day.
Mike,
Don't worry about a snack cooler, I will have an extra in the bass buss for you to use. That way you won't have to give or throw it away and won't have to bother with it on a plane.
Ronnie

awesome, thanks so much ronnie! another shining example of the kindness that runs rampant throughout this site.
only a few more days and i'll finally get to thank you guys in person!
Meat Balls and Tomatos delivered. Speedbead threw me a couple of Rapala Baits and a Jitterbug, THANK YOU that was not necessary!!!!!!
Good Trip, safe trip and enjoy 8-)
Muddy, you da man! Wish you were making it but I understand your reason. Again, thanks!
For those who are attending......Can't wait to meet ya! I won't be arriving until Monday around mid morning. If any of you will be around at that time, I'll be launching about noonish. If not, look for a white, black bottom Legend w/225 Optimax and wave me down if you'd like....that is if your not to busy wearin' em' out!

MA weather can pucker up, too!
I actually just checked the G'ville weather yesterday and Sunday and Tuesday called for rain, that's nice to see it's changed to partly cloudy.
Everybody have a good time! Wish I could go. :'( Guntersville is one of my favorite lakes to fish (especially tournaments).
Would have been nice if you could have made it, Karol. Sure would've been nice to get a few firsthand pointers on Guntersville from you. Oh well, maybe next year.
We'll catch a few pigs for ya!
Welcome aboard!

3 Days To Go!!
I'm going nuts!!!
I might be able to make the dinner Wed and fish Thursday. If so, I'll bring my boat, and Riskkid and I will fish out of my boat Thursday.
Carl and I are paid up for the Wed dinner anyway, so hold my spot open, and if I can attend I will be there Wed evening.
Thanks, and I hope to see you guys mid-week.
SC
ALL DINNER PLANS HAVE BEEN MADE!
Monday night - Muddy man's meatballs enough for 30 people. Those who have signed up and communicated their intentions will be served first. If anyone else shows up, they will be welcome to what's left if any.
Tuesday night - Ghotti's camp delight. Also enough for 30 people. Those who have signed up and communicated their intentions will be served first. If anyone else shows up, they will be welcome to what's left if any.
Wednesday night - We have a total of 25 signed up and paid for the BBQ dinner. I will try to get anyone else who shows up a place at the table, but please don't count on it. If I can work it out, you will have to pay cash at the dinner. NO MORE PAYMENTS will be accepted via mail or paypal and there is no longer a guaranty that late comers will be able to eat with the rest of the group. SORRY, I did my best.
Due to the fact that we were unable to get the minimum number of 50 members signed up and paid, we will not be having the buffet dinner which was originally planned. We are having the plated BBQ dinner instead. This only requires a minimum of 25, which we have.
In order to uncomplicate refunding the difference in the cost to the 25 members who have paid, I have arranged for the following:
There is an additional cost for the cash bar to be open. We will be meeting in a private room with a bar. The additional cost is for the servers. 2 servers, dedicated to our group costs $15 per server, per hour. Everyone will pay for their own drinks at the bar. There will be plenty of funds to cover this with the difference in the cost of the dinner. Using the number of 25 who have already paid and is our minimum commitment, we will use the overage to pay the bar tenders. The total difference in cost is $196. 2 servers at $30/hour from 7-11 PM would cost $120 and will leave an extra $76 to pad the tip or cover any unforeseen expenses. Or we can give everyone a number and have a drawing for what is left. I would much rather do this than to administrate a 3 or 4 dollar refund to every individual. I will of course, provide a strict accounting for all monies collected and spent.
I am closing the books on this part of the trip so I can prepare the bassbuss and get ready for the trip. As always if there is anything I can do to help you along the way, please let me know.
Ronnie
I vote that we give the extra money to you for doing a lot of this leg work or to Glenn for the pavillion rental.
Or......pad the tip like you suggested b/c I am sure southern hospitality will be at its finest at Guntersville.
Either way......
VIVA LA GUNTERSVILLE!!!
Yeah...what Speedbead said!
Ronnie, Glenn and others who have put alot of time into the planning for this trip:
THANK YOU!!!
You guys have made it easy for the rest of us! Heck..all I had to do was say,"I'm in!"
Y'all keep the extra money as far as I'm concerned. Use if for drinks, help pay for the pavillion, or whatever else comes along. At this point I'm just glad we still have a few going. I thought I was gonna be all alone on that big lake.
2 Days To Go!!
Still going nuts.
Big Emergency Guys!
The park just called me and said only 4 cabins are reserved. These are the people who have reserved cabins:
Flukemaster
RW
Ghoti
Jimzee (Blaine)
Everyone else - if you booked a room or cabin, they don't have it on the books! If you have been left off the list, please call Patty Tucker immediately at 256-505-6601 by 4pm Central TODAY. Otherwise they will no longer hold the rooms/cabins for us and you're on your own.

i agree with speedbead, put it towards another aspect of the trip or gas money for the bassbus. i'd rather it go to you or glenn than anything else.
also, to echo everyone else...

OH YES, YOU ARE CORRECT IN THAT....
Glenn,
I just called Patti to make sure they had my reservation. They did. She was able to look it up by my confirmation number.
When I made it I didn't tie it in to Bass Resource so that is why I was not on her list. I asked her if I was missing out on a discount and she assured me the price was the same.

AH, that's good. Let's hope everybody else comes up with the same answer.
I've been trying to stay away from this thread; it's driving me crazy. No fishing for me this year. Except for my trip to Florida in January, it's been a long dry spell. Cabin fever has really gotten me down this year. The anticipation of this trip has, I believe, made it that much worse.
And now, it's almost here. Got the rod tube packed. Got the reel case loaded. Got the tackle sorted, and packed in the bags. Got most of the kitchen supplies packed. Just have to buy some food, pack some clothes, load up the jeep, and hit the road first thing Sunday morning.
I'm looking forward to meeting all you folks; whoever decides to show up. It's more than a little disapointing that so many signed on and then dropped off the radar. It's also a bummer that so many had to drop out, for whatever reasons.
Looking forward to wetting a line with some of you too. The only down side I see is I'm only there until Thursday morning, and I won't be able to fish with everybody. There's always next year.
Now, let's go catch some fish.
Don't wait till you get there to start taking pictures. Keep a camera with you and take pictures to document your trip. That way we can put a sweet video together when it's over.
Take picture of your stuff laid out and ready to go.
Take pictures while you travel.
Take video if you can.
Use your imagination.
Way ahead of you, fluke. Me & Wayne will have some Road Trip video for you. Some Pics along the way also.
Ronnie
LOL, are we there yet?
I am sitting here looking at those new Shadalicious and they look like they need to get wet!!!
Wayne: Don't let Ronnie near the camera unles you want all heads or all feet
1 Day To Go!!
I can't hardly contain myself.
Please guys, only one day to go. If someone would be kind enough to PM with the cell phone numbers of the attendees I would be very grateful. If nothing else, could I, at the very least, have the numbers of the mods and for Ghotti?
Mike,
If I had the list I would send it to you, but I don't know what happened to it. Sorry!
Ronnie
Mike I will PM you mine.
Hey Fluke,
Going up to KY to get my boat tomorrow.....they are putting on some new brake pads and rotors for me.
How about a parachute in the rear like on a drag car.
He needs a longer boat slip and 7 or 8 tires
Poor Carl. You watch, after all this guff, he's probably been practicing with his new rig all year. He's gonna sweep in at 40, throw it sideways and gently drift into his slip, touching in like a feather... ;D
SHOW 'EM CARL!!

Guys- one bit of safety advice on Big G:
When running your boats, stay in the channel when on plane. The river channel is well marked, as are most of the major creeks like N Sauty, South Sauty, Big Spring, Siebold, etc.
The old river channel comes up quickly, and most of the flats right off the channel edge come up to within 4 ft of the surface, and many of those flats are littered with scattered stumps, and shallow shell beds.
Most of the map chips like navionics and fishing hot spots show the channels well too.
Where people get in trouble is coming off the main river channel, and trying to head straight ito the mouth of the creeks or onto the main lake grass flats. In most cases the creek channels snake their way in. Good example is Mink Creek. Look on your map, and you'll see what I'm talking about. You have to enter the creek about one mile South of the Creek mouth on the West side of the river. If you try to run straight in to the creek mouth, you're going to have a hard time staying in deep enough water.
Also, many of the main lake grass flats and bays on the East side of the river are way off of the river channel, so you need to find that 8-15ft ditch to run in, or better yet, just idle over.
Just stay b/w the green and red bouys when running wide open, and you should be fine. If you venture on to the flats, just trim the motor up, and idle slowly, watching the depth finder.
Good luck, and be safe.
Sounds like shorts weather!!!!!!!!
JUST A REMINDER TO THOSE WHO MAY NEED IT....
Bring some type of waterproof clothing. I am sure, as Murphy's Law would dictate, that at some point you are going to need it!!!
Wayne
HEY WAYNE: Bring HEADPHONES !!!!!!!!!! Hint; once Ronnie starts singing in the Bass Bus; Put Head Phones on
i've got 5 1/2 hours of work left until my vaca (un)officially starts. thank *$&@$% god!

Well, I cant take it any more. I am leaving in 1/2 hour to go finish packing.

the first thing i thought when i woke up today was "i wonder how mad they'll get if i call in today..." hahaha.
the anticipation is killin me!
VIVA LA GUNTERSVILLE!!!
I just got the boat cleaned up and loaded. Man, I had no idea how much fishing stuff I have until I started putting it back in the boat. In about 15 hours from now I will be pulling out of my driveway and heading 517 miles southwest. I'm meeting Burley for lunch tomorrow on the way down, and then stopping at BPS to get a couple packs of hooks only. (yeah right.. :) I'm not fishing Saturday but will start fishing Sunday morning. I'll come back to the cabins around noon on Sunday to check if anyone has made it yet. See y'all down there!
Man, I know I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight at all. Anticipation is killing me.
15 Hours To Go!!
2 minutes of work left in the day!
headin to RI tomorrow morning to hit the water with LBH, Tin and Matt 5.0 then it's on to G'VILLE BABY!!!

After a short 900 mile drive. Speedbead & I have arrived at Carl's (risk kid) place. We had an awesome ribeye steak dinner from the grill with Shadcranker and his buddy Ron. We will be heading out to Guntersville with Carl's boat behind the bassbuss in the morning. We are some kind of pumped up right now. All you travelers be care full. We will see you there!

x3 - Though I just got back last night from down there I am already planning a trip back. That place is unreal!
Greetings! Just got back from a fantastic dinner featuring Muddy's Italian Cooking - WOW!!! You guys missed out on some excellent food! There was enough for everyone, even those who wanted seconds. We pigged out!!
Here's the fishing report for day one: 48 fish caught, biggest bass topping 8 1/2 pounds! Not bad for cold front conditions, eh? Tomorrow it's supposed to warm up 10-15 degrees, so the bite should be even better.
Hey folks. I want to extend my thanks to all those responsible for the 3rd Annual Roadtrip! While I didn't do so well ( caught 2, 1 keeper, 1 dink in three days), I had a great time meeting our fellow members. I'm gonna blame the bad weather (1st two nights down to 29 & 30, winds of 25 mph during the day) and my dang 6 mth old trolling motor crapping out on my second day out. Lost three speeds out of five, the two lowest (and most needed) really making it difficult to fish the shallow water and the wind in the main lake. I'm sure a better angler could have overcome all of that but so it goes.
Enough of the excuses!! My personal thanks go out to Glenn and his wife, Kari, for developing a website that anyone from a novice to a professional can learn from. Both he and his wife are great people and I enjoyed meeting and talking with them. I'd also like to thank -
ALPSTER for his hard work on the Roadtrip details
MUDDY for the excellent meatballs!
GHOTI and his wife for the Fish camp pasta dinner and allowing me to share a cabin with them.
I never really thought about how much work the moderators put in on this forum (for free) and my hats off to the ones I met -
ROADWARRIOR (who fished wtih me on the 1st day)
and to the ones who had to stay behind, LBH & FIVEBASS - Thanks for all the work behind the scenes keeping this site safe and awesome!! Hope to meet you guys down the road (Kentucky Lake I hear)
I decided to leave out Thursday morning to try and get my trolling motor repaired as here in Northwest Alabama, the smallmouth are really getting hot. When I left I believe AJ & Jimzee had the most largemouth caught and Jeff had cornered the spotted bass market catching at least 40 with Kari and Bob Lusk and 30 the day before with Senko77. Conditions were rough as stated above and the secret, for largemouth, was finding the warmest water available. Water temps ran from as low as 50 in some creek channels to 55 on the main lake. Pockets could be found that ran as high as 63 in shallow grass that had been shielded from wind and were exposed to all day sunshine. Unfortunately, with so much water to cover, I didn't locate them till Wednesday and the water was dropping making getting in them tough. High speed on a trolling motor really stirred up the bottom. Ghoti's wife caught a nice one on a Senko right after we drifted up but after turning the motor on I'm sure I spooked any remaining fish as I saw at least one nice one streak out to the deeper water.
The guest speaker on Wednesday night was a fisheries biologist, Bob Lusk. He has built ponds and lakes for the likes of Ray Scott and Bill Dance. He shared his knowledge of the food chain and structure with us in a very entertaining talk. I understood him to say that he is writing an article to be published here at BassResource. Everyone should give it a read, especially those of you who fish small impoundments and ponds.
To MassholeMike, who I had the privilege of fishing with - hope you tore em up. Great guy. If you live in his area, take him with you fishing.
To Senko77, who I had the privilege of sharing a room with - hope you did well in the tourney. looking forward to hearing about it and thanks for the letting me try out the Mattlures bluegill.
Would I do it again? You bet ya. You couldn't have a better bunch to fish and kick back with. Here's to all the people I met .
Hope you all caught a PB. To the rest of you on the forum, don't miss out on another Roadtrip!!
Tight lines to all.
PS. Did I forget? BASSRESOURCE.com ROCKS!!!
Sounds like our members really showed their hospitality!
Yeah - makes me proud to be able to associate with everyone here. If I hadn't wanted to come back and get busy on the motor, someone would have given me a ride so I could fish that day, without a doubt. And now that I've checked out the Big G, I'll go back (I'm only 2 hrs away 8-)) & next time - look out
Excellent post, Electrikal!
Keri and I had a great time meeting everyone there. My only complaint is that it didn't last long enough!
P.S. Walked onto the plane in mid-70 degree weather, and walk off to be greeted by SNOW! AAARRGH!!
Well, the Bass Bus left my house this morning so I guess the trip is officially over for me.
Great trip, some good fish although a bit slow due to nature and the TVA, outstanding food by Muddy and Ghoti, great fellowship and enjoyable programs each night after dinner. Congrats to Mass Hole Mike and Jimzee for the big girls they caught. It was good to see the folks I met last year and meet some new folks too. I'm looking forward to next year....and to steal a line from last year...
No Excuses 2009......be there or miss out on a great time!
Geez, where do I start....
First and foremost, I would like to thank my gracious host Alpster for not only putting me up for the week, but also delivering a SWEET custom pitchin stick that was the *** of many on the trip The conversations to and from were first rate and very entertaining.
Riskkid - one of the most generous gestures I have ever seen. This guy was at the trip and let us use his boat the entire time. Doesnt get much better than that. Thanks man.
Roadwarrior - another great guy with a SICK book of pics. If you ever get the chance to sit and BS with this guy, take it!! Great fishing with you on the last day of the trip. Hope you ripped them at Pickwick today!!
ghoti and wife - amazing cooks, amazing people. The dessert was too good for words!! From what I understand, I will see you in a couple months!!!
CJ - Man, that boat is AWESOME. Again, if you ever get a chance to fish with this guy, TAKE IT!! After fishing with him, I realized that I have a lot more to learn about fishing. LOL Cant wait for next year!!!
Masshole - You did great buddy!! I am so happy for you crushing your PB. Doesnt get much better than that. Thanks for the extras too. Sorry to hear about the luggage issues. Like I said, STAND ON THE DESK AND YELL. Someone will listen to you.
Jimzee (and wife) and AJ - Best development of a pattern on a new lake I have ever seen. These guys got on a pattern, stuck with it and blew it up. On top of that, shared the info with everyone that asked and even gave up the hot spots on the lake. That says a lot about your characters. I am sure that DD is right around the corner too!!
Glenn and Keri - Great website you have here. Thanks for bringing all us crazy people together for a week. I had a great time.
Long Mike - That is a great guy right there. Many people see the guy that yells about proper spelling. I got to see the real person all this week and he is top notch. Dont worry Mike, I wont tell too many people about you.
To the presenters (JJ's Magic, Sure Life, KVD Line & Lure, and Bob Lusk), great products and information. Click on the banners and buy from the sponsors!!! They are some good people.
Anyone else I forgot, I am so sorry. Trust me that your company will not soon be forgotten.
CANT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR ALREADY!!!
Wayne
After a twelve hour drive I made it home about nine last night. It was great to meet and fish with both old friends and new ones.
Ronnie (with Muddy's meatballs) and Ghoti cooked up a great batch of groceries that satisfied even the most ravenous of us, including Speedbead. Unfortunately, the food served up by the Lodge left a lot to be desired.
Despite the fact that the bass had lock-jaw, it was a great trip. I was able to fish with Glenn (Glenn), Roadwarrior (Kent) and RiskKid (Carl.) All have a great sense of humor and are truly enjoyable and knowledgeable fishing partners.
In addition, I had the great good fortune of rooming with Kent, CJ and MassholeMike. Very few know that Kent gave up his own bed and slept on the couch in order to accommodate me when I was forced to cancel the cabin I had reserved when my room-mates dropped out at the last minute. His selflessness is amazing, and I will be forever grateful. I could go on and on about my room-mates. CJ could be the next KVD. Lots of knowledge and skill. MassholeMike has the enthusiasm of youth and the drive to be a VERY good fisherman. Everyone knows that he caught a lunker that most men only dream of.
When I add it all up, the camaraderie with old and new friends, and the opportunity to fish one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen have made my trip one of the best Ive ever had. I'm very much looking forward to next year.
Man I don't even know where to start! G-Ville was a great time! The only problem was it didn't last long enough. I was like a kid in a candy store down there. All the great, kind hearted members and just not enough time to get to know them all well enough.
Road Warrior, thank you for everything. You have become a true friend. Can't wait till the next time we fish togather.
Long Mike, I enjoyed the conversation out on the back deck. You're top shelf man!
Mass Hole Mike, looks like you didn't need any coot poop! LOL Your well on your way! In my book your already there!
Alpster, I can't say enough about this guy. I'm gonna stick a pig with your gift. I'm so proud of it. Thank You!
Ryan, one of the nicest young men I've ever got to fish with. You've got it togather man.
Speedbead, Jimzee, and AJ, I felt like we'd been friends awhile. These guys are good ole boys! Dang good sticks too!
Riskkid and Shadcranker, you guys are cool...too cool! Hope we're gonna hit Ky./Barkley before long.
Glenn, Kerry, Gene, Ghoti, and Electrical, I felt like I didn't get to spend enough time with ya'll. Though the time and conversation we had was priceless, guess we'll make up for it next year. Hope I didn't leave anybody out.
I know, it sounds like I'm excepting a grammy but I am still blown away from how great our family here truely is.
CJ
Man, I sure am tormented that I wasn't there but I'm VERY happy to see all went off without a hitch and all had a good time.
It's an odd thing, these BR roadtrips,...you find yourself spending time with folks you probably would have never met in any other circumstance. A plethora of personalities. What comes from this is some amazing camaraderie and the excitement of looking forward to the next one. They really are something special and it has torn at my heart to not have been able to be there this yr.
Ugh,...I wanna puke.
But I'm glad you all had a great time and I'm glad more members got to meet the ones I met last yr at Fork. It really was a treat to meet the folks in person, especially when you feel you know them so well already.
Glenn and Keri are a class act, that's a given. Great job by all and a special thank you needs to go to Alpster for all the legwork he did to make this happen for you guys.
I'm so glad we made him the first ELITE member. He fills the shoes better than anyone could have hoped. Excellent Job Ronnie and THANK YOU.
All the folks who cooked,...I know,...I missed out here too. Shoot, just missing Muddy's meatballs almost made me cry mid week, lol. But a thank you to the cooks as well and Brent,...a very nice gesture, and you weren't even there. You're support of the board is noted and appreciated as always.
2009 NO EXCUSES 8-)
KENTUCKY LAKE,........HEADS UP!! HERE WE COME!!!!
QuoteI am still blown away from how great our family here truely is.
CJ
Is that something else or what? You really need to experience this to grasp it.
To Friends and Family,
Guys and gals, THANK YOU! for making our trip so successful
and fun. This group could only be improved upon by making it bigger!
I really encourage everyone to start planning to attend the 4th Annual
BassResource.com Roadtrip, you will not be disappointed, promise!
Special thanks to Glenn & Keri for turning a dream into a reality.
Kudos to Ronnie for really putting this year's event together. Muddy
for contributing and being a part of an adventure he could not attend.
Gary & Mary for a fabulous dinner and what I consider a new
friendship.
To everyone else, HOORAH! I hope to see you all next year.
-Kent
What can I say that has not been said? Everyone caught fish, some caught a lot and some caught big ones (2- new PBs) that I know of. A great time was certainly had by all. There were a lot of reasons why the trip was special for me. Here's the quick list......
Working with Glen & Keri on the trip details was more a joy than a job. Glenn taught me a lot about polishing up the website and organizing the info. and getting to talk with them on the phone (mostly Keri) about details was fun and very helpful. I won't say anything about who I think is the brains of this organization.
Risk kid put Wayne & I up for the night going and coming. Fed us an amazing steak dinner, loaned me & Wayne his 19' Skeeter to fish with all week long. This is one of the most generous acts of kindness I have ever experienced. I met Carl last year on the Fork trip and he's just one of those guys you become instant friends with. It was a dream come true to fish Guntersville in that fancy boat. THANK YOU CARL!!!!!!!!! As an added treat, Shadcranker and his buddy Ron were there for dinner and Rob made it to Guntersville for the Wednesday night dinner.
Speadbead was an excellent roommate in the bassbus and a first class fishing partner for the week. He outfished me by a couple, but we both had a blast. We had a magic time on the lake. He is a pleasure to fish with. Everyone thought he was my personal servant because he kept running up and down the stairs to get stuff for me when my arthritic knees were hurting, and drove the buss half way home as I was feeling poorly on the way home. Thanks Wayne, you are the best!
MassHoleMike caught his PB at 6lbs 12oz while we were fishing together. I got to reach down and grab her for him. I will never forget the look on his face when that big girl came out of the water. He was only a little more excited than I was. Congratulations Mike!!!
I got to fish this week with jeff and roadwarrior. Jeff put us onto his spotted bass honey hole on Wednesday and Wayne and I caught a dozen fish there in the afternoon. We squeezed in a few hours of cold, windy fishing with Kent on Friday and had to cut it short to get on the road home. Let me tell you, our mods are great fishermen and very classy people.
We arrived Sunday afternoon and put the boat in the water for the maiden voyage. I even caught a little LM on the rocks where Mike got his PB. When we got back to the ramp and loaded the boat, Jimzee and A.J. came in right behind us. Jimzee was shaking like a dog passing a peach pit. He could barely push the buttons on his camera to show us the pictures of his new PB 7+ lbs. Jimzee and A.J. had this lake lake figured out. Later in his room, Jimzee was telling us exactly where and how they were catching fish and if that's not enough, he was giving everyone around the table his jigs. Jimzee is a true 'Southern Gentleman'. Meeting and getting to know him was one of the highlights of my trip. Send me those rod specs Blaine.
Muddy's meatballs were awesome as expected. I can go on and on about Dominick, because there aren't very many out there like him. Proud to call him my friend.
Ghotti (Gary) and his wife Mary did a pile of research for information on the website. THANK YOU! They also fed us like kings on Tuesday! Awesome food and desert. You guys are top notch!
CJ & Ryan fished together part of the week and tore em up, but let me tell you, these guys are the real deal. CJ has forgotten more about fishing than I know and is one of the most humble, likable and friendly guys you will ever meet. Wayne got to fish with him on Thursday, But if CJ hadn't promised me a spot on his boat at Kentucky Lake next year me & Wayne would have had a fight. Ryan (Senko77) caught a bunch of fish on Guntersville then ran down to his next tournament and won it handily! He is an amazing young man with a lot of skill and humility. I sat next to him at Ghotti's dinner and we got to hang out with some other guys after ward. If he is the future of tournament fishermen, we are in good shape. Hey, I can say I knew him when he was just a BR member. LOL
Great to see Long Mike again. I got to have dinner with him on Wednesday and hang out later in the evening telling fish stories. Long Mike is as sure as the sunrise, whatever he tells you, you can count on it.
I wish I could have had more time to spend with Dan & Gary, those Georgia boys were a pleasure to meet. There is simply not enough time to do all you want to do. Glad you guys were there.
Electrikal was also on board for some fishing and fellowship. I know he took some of our members out on his boat. He's another one I wish I had more time to spend with with. Great to meet him.
Last but not least, the board sponsors who gave away $$$$ worth of stuff. On Monday Night, at dinner we all received a complete free kit from J.J.s Magic and instructions on how to use it. This is an amazing product that will change the way you fish. On Tuesday, glenn shared about "Surelife" products "Please Release Me" and "Catch and Release" and we each were given generous supplies to try for ourselves. We showed up for dinner on Wednesday night and each of our tables were covered with "Evolution Jigs", "Cavitron Buzzbaits, Megastrike", KVD Line & Lure Spray", "Shakey Jigs", "GYCB Swimsenkos", Triangle also provided "Cyclone" visors and a $300 "Cyclone Line Winder" and lots more stuff. I was blown away by the amount of free gear that we received, just for showing up. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED!!!!
Bob Lusk spoke to our group about the biology and habitat for bass. His knowledge of the species is unbelievable. I had the unique experience of watching him fish with Glenn and Keri. He actually made this spotted bass that Keri caught, cough up a finesse worm Glenn had lost earlier. We know that for sure, because it's tail was dyed with J.J.'s Magic. Wayne & I also overheard (we were fishing about 100 feet away) a phone call from Mr. Lusk to Bill Dance about next year's trip. Don't tell anyone.
Finally, (this is my longest post ever) I know the economy sucks. As a Land Surveyor, I am in the housing industry. I am also blessed to have the bassbus, but I made this trip (Wayne paid more than his share of the expenses) for a very few dollars. Be creative, ask for help, but don't miss next year's trip to Kentucky Lake. If you love to bass fish, there will never be a better opportunity to have the fishing experience of your life. Ask MassHoleMike if you think I am exaggerating.
I am very proud to have shared this experience!
God Bless you all,
2009 NO EXCUSES!
Ronnie
Wow! I really can't add much to what's already been said. But here goes.
Some random thoughts in addition to what's already been said:
Please show them your gratitude by doing business with these outstanding companies!
And finally, a HUGE thank you to everyone who made it! Keri and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and getting the opportunity to talk with each of you.
Here's to '09!
What a trip!!! I won't say it as well as some of the others, but here's my fifth of a dimes worth.
Thanks to Glenn and Keri for everything you two did to make this such a success. You did your selves proud. Guntersville State Park was an excellent choice.
Thanks to all the sponsors who really stepped up to the plate.
Thanks to Alpster for everything he did to make this happen. Ronnie is truly one of those special human beings. I'm glad to have finally met you.
To electrikal; thanks Rick, it was a pleasure. I'd fish with you again, anytime. You need something, let me know. If I can do it, I will.
To Senko77; Ryan, it was a treat to meet you. Folks, this is an excellent young man.
To RW; Kent, it was a tough day we had on the water, not many fish, two frozen *****, and a new friend. I'm calling it a success.
There were a lot of people I didn't get to spend as much time with as I wanted. We got in late on Sunday, and left first thing Thursday morning. We just ran out of week. To Blaine and wife, AJ, CJ, Carl, Wayne, MHMike, and Gene, I'll do better next time, I promise. I really wanted to sit down with all you guys, and just didn't get the chance.
Long Mike and I planned to fish together one day, and it didn't happen. It will next time.
Thanks to everybody for making me, and Mary, feel like part of the family. It was awesome.
Se you all next year.
VIVA, Kentucky
Cheers,
GK
Well I guess I better tell a little bit about the trip. I will try to keep it short but there is a lot to tell.
Saturday, we left WV about 6 am Saturday and headed south. I stopped along the way to pick up AJ Fernatt and then we were off.
I got to meet a forum legend along the ride down. Yep, that's right, Burley in the flesh. We stopped and had lunch with Burley at Cracker Barrel in Abingdon, Va. He came all the way down (50 minute drive) to meet us for lunch. After lunch, Burley gave me a pack of Lake Fork 7/0 weighted hooks to use with my swimbaits. Guys, Burley is the real deal. He also tried to get me to take one of his setups and numerous other lures. I can't wait to fish with him this summer when he comes up my way.
We finally arrived in Guntersville at 7 pm after a short BPS detour along the way. I was beat from the ride down and turned in about 10:30 pm.
Sunday morning we hit the lake early. Words cannot describe just how big this lake was. Keep in mind I am just a country boy from WV and the biggest lake I fish is 2,650 acres. (Stonewall Jackson) You really had to watch for the depth changes in the lake. One minute you were in 35 feet of water and the next minute it was 2.5 feet of water. CRAZY!! We fished all day getting used to this monstrous sized lake. I started throwing a spinnerbait at around 5 pm that evening in about 5 foot of water. The next thing I know I was hooked to a freight train. After about a two minute struggle, AJ finally lipped her for me. I was shaking so hard I could barely stand up. My first fish at Guntersville ended up being my new PB. She was 7.5 pounds, shaped like a football, and beat my old PB by three ounces. A few minutes later I hooked a dink on the spinnerbait and that was it for the day.
We got back to the dock and I was still shaking from the fish. We meet up with Jeff, Alpster, MassholeMike, and Speedbead. These guys were high-fiving me as I could still barely stand up. Man, what a rush!
Monday morning we headed out and went 17 miles north of the lodge. It was 38 degrees and it ended up being a tough bite. We finally figured out that the fish were holding in about 12-15 foot of water. AJ put a few smaller bass in the boat toward evening on a trap along some riprap. I got a big goose egg for the day but did manage to hook the biggest crappie I have ever seen. That thing was 17-18 inches long! We got back just in time for the evening dinner and meet everyone. Special thanks to Muddy for the awesome meatballs. They were fantastic!! Also thanks to JJ's Magic for the awesome products. This stuff works people!!
Tuesday morning came with 32 degree temps along with it. AJ and I started looking for places that looked like back home. We had a miserable boat ride that morning for 2.5 miles until we found "the spot." It had everything we were used to fishing back home, flooded brush in deeper water. We went to work with the jigs. In a half hour we boated 12 fish, the smallest was 2.8 pounds. I ended up getting broke off in one brush pile. I set the hook and had her on for about ten seconds and then the line went limp. It was a big fish but I'll never know how big. We were loving life. We finally found a pattern that worked - look for places that looked like back home and fish them. ;D
We picked my wife Dawn up around noon after it had warmed up to about 53 degrees. We went back to same cove and caught a few more fish on cranks along the riprap including a white bass that Dawn caught. That evening we fished closer to the park and campground. I was slow-rolling a spinnerbait along a cliff in about 20 feet of water and hooked up with my second biggest fish of the trip. AJ lipped her (thanks again man) and she ended up going 6 lbs. 4 oz. These fish look just like footballs and have huge guts on them. To give you an idea, earlier in the day I caught a spot on a jig that might have been 15 inches long, but it weighed 3.25 lbs. CRAZY!!! We retired that evening for some great camp pasta prepared by Ghoti and his wonderful wife Mary. This stuff was so good, and they fixed enough to feed an army. We took some back to the cabin with us for later.
Special thanks for Ghoti and Mary for the great food and Please Release Me for the generous samples you provided.
Wenesday morning, AJ and I headed out down the lake in search of some more places that looked like back home. We had studied the lake map the night before and found another cove that resembled the one we fished Tuesday and we were right. laydowns with deep water nearby. This cove was shaped just like the lower section of Italy, so from there on out it became "Little Italy." ;D We got the jigs out and went to work again. We ended up losing four fish in that cove that were brutes, but caught several nice ones too. The other side of the cove had boat houses and docks and we caught a few more on cranks around the docks. They were all dinks. We headed back up the lake around evening time to be close enough to the ramp so we could fish until it was time for dinner. We settled on fishing deeper water with laydowns on the main lake close to the park. AJ was throwing a jig and I was throwing a crank. We caught several more fat spots along the cliff wall. Those spots fought so hard compared to their size. They were all three pounds or better.
That evening we were treated to a awesome dinner with loads of stuff to be given away from the BR sponsors. I learned a ton from the speakers and you guys should have seen all the stuff they were giving away. I was like a kid in a candy store. ;D
Special thanks for Glenn for having the dinner in such a fine place, the guys at KVD line conditioner, Bob "Pond Boss" Lusk for a great speech, and all others who donated for this dinner. It was awesome, THANKS!!
Thursday came, knowing this was our last day on the water we were on a mission. Dawn, AJ, and I headed out down the lake early back to "Little Italy" to see if we could convince those bruisers to bite again on a jig we lost the previous day. We tried a cove first across from Lil' Italy because the wind was blowing in excess of 30 mph. AJ hooked up with a nice fat four pounder in four foot of water and that got us to thinking. Are these fish finally moving up shallow the day before we leave? We tried for the rest of the day to stir up something. We even resulted to drop shotting in 50 foot of water for suspended fish but could not hold the boat over the fish long enough due to the wind. We ended up running a brand new trolling motor battery down. It was crazy out there that day. Four foot waves and we nearly lost AJ out of the boat on the ride back to the dock. Never-the-less, we went back smiling and laughing from all the fun we had.
That night, AJ and I spent time with all the guys and had one heck of a BS session. Best part of the trip right there IMHO. Thanks fellas!!
Friday morning, it was now time to leave. We left a sunny 72 and came home to a miserable 39 with rain. On a side note, we stopped back by BPS again to ease the pain of not getting to fish the Big "G" one more day. This was an awesome trip and I can't wait until the next one. "09" NO EXCUSES!! 8-)
I also want to give some thanks to every one I got to meet on this trip, without them it would have been just another fishing trip.
Glenn and Keri, thanks for all the trouble you went through in setting this trip up and the great site you provide us. I'm glad I got to meet you both.
Alpster, this guy is the real deal. Always positive and a joy to be around. He is just one of those guys that draws you to him. Ronnie, thanks for all the hard work you put into this trip to make it happen. I feel like I found a true friend for life after I met you. Thanks a bunch for all those crank boxes. Keep on keeping on.
Speedbead, thanks for the brews man and for all the daily reports on the cell phone. We will get together this summer and fish a few days whether it be down my way or up your way.
Glenn, thanks for the class on the mojo-rig and all the advice on the lake. Glenn is a stand-up guy with lots of knowledge.
Risk Kid, one of the first BR guys I got to meet. Let me tell you, he is the real deal. What he done for Ronnie and Wayne was awesome and he has a place to stay at my house anytime he wants it.
Roadwarrior, thanks for the jigs man. I still didn't get to put that Kistler rod and Daiwa reel in your hand. Maybe one step at a time, enjoy the Revo man.
Long Mike, probably one of the biggest surprises on the trip. Not at all what I was expecting. A great guy, very soft spoken, and a hoot to talk to. Look forward to more BS'ing on the next trip.
Ghoti and Mary, a great cook and even better friend. Thanks for the brews and look forward to more info on that trip.
MassholeMike, dude what can I say. I felt almost as good as you did when you caught that hawg. Let it be known from this day forward that a Yankee fan can get along with a Redsox fan when it comes to fishing. Hope to see you on the next one.
C.J., it was great getting to meet you and listen to all the knowledge you shared so freely to the group. Looking forward to Kentucky.
Senko77, this guy has it going on. I wish you the best this year Ryan in your tournaments. You deserve it all dude!
Electrikal, it was good to meet you and finally put a face behind the name. Enjoy those new Dobyn's rods man.
Shadcranker, glad we got to meet even though it was very brief.
And last but certainly not least, AJ and Dawn, you guys are great fishing buddies and I can't wait until we do it again.
I apologize if I forgot anybody.
I will post pics of the trip after Glenn releases the video.
Blaine 8-)
Forum legend? :-?
Just a note about the status of the video...
I JUST got the last pictures and videos from a few members two days ago, so now I can finally begin working on it.
However, I'm now dealing with a firedrill this week regarding rumors and misconceptions with forum members regarding forum policies, so production has been postponed until things are taken care of. Apologies for the delay, but the membership here is my #1 priority. Nothing else comes first (including advertisers!).
While I know I've been posting interviews with the pros lately, please understand these were shot a month before the roadtrip and I was able to create them all at one time BEFORE the roadtrip. They're all done, I'm just posting them one at at time now. So I am not prioritizing them over the roadtrip video.
I had really hoped to have it done by now, but again, the membership takes priority over everything else. It's much more important to me to address the concerns of the membership than edit videos right now.
Thanks for your understanding.
OK, it's been three weeks, and every board member with the exception of the attendees has pretty much forgotten about the trip. Glenn, when are you going to FINALLY get around to posting images of the trip? Inquiring minds want to know.
Almost done with the video Mike. Hope to have it done by next week.
Next time, YOU get to edit it. ;D
FINALLY!! The Lake Guntersville Roadtrip video is ready for your viewing pleasure!!!
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/bass-fishing-Lake-Guntersville.html
Enjoy!!
Glenn, I just watched the video. Don't know if I'm in *** of you guys being more able to get together because of the geographics , or because of the loads of fun you all looked like you were having. Either way, great vid. Brian
Great job Glenn! Thanks! I enjoyed reliving the moments. Can't wait till next year!
CJ
QuoteKentucky Lake. Booo.;D
b (nice vid)
C'mon Brent...
Send me the contact information for you parol officer and we'll get you out of Texas for a few days.
:
QuoteKentucky Lake. Booo.;D b (nice vid)
You weaseled your way out of Guntersville. Don't even think about not showing up in KY.
Ronnie
QuoteKentucky Lake. Booo. Not sure if Kentucky Lake has any bass to spare, anyways.
;D
I know.....I know, Texas is truely blessed. We have northern strain here. But we also have monster brown fish! Just ask Riskkid! He saw one the other day!
QuoteMan, looks like my quotes were picked apart, making it seem as though Kentucky Lake wouldn't be my first choice......... ;DI know we're spoiled in TX, but the lake record at Kentucky Lake was 13lbs over 23 years ago. We catch 13 lb'ers in TX every year. (i use 'we' very loosely there) ;D
...... (c.j. 'my bass' like "hardwood" the best, they (the bass) tell me that grass is for sissy bass! LOL )
(just kidding...... i've been bagging worms non - stop for the last 3 days, so i need some comic relief.......44,000 worms and counting..... :'( I'll do 60k before the day is up.
Ship mine first.
glenn the video came out great!
that last shot of the sun was actually the sunrise on the last morning there. it was gorgeous, probably one of the most beautiful i've ever seen in person. i followed that shot up with a nice 3lb+ on a spinnerbait, which makes it even more incredible!
great job on the vid.
The video is great. Looks like everyone there had a good time. I'm glad I got to finally see it for myself. CJ has told me all about the trip. I'm really excited about the 2009 trip. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. See y'all in Ky!
Teria
I look forward to meeting you, too!
-Kent
WoW! Great vid! Looks like a good time was had by all!!
