Answer: I would recommend looking at Cajun Custom rods. I don't have any Shimano rods, but put this on a Cajun Coastal (meant for wade and kayak fishing) and it's a phenomenal rod. They have many models to choose from, and they're made in my city Jacksonville, Florida. Meaning, American made by hand one at a time.

Answer: The carbon drag isn't necessity. It is more durable, and can take more punishment. It will hold up better when fighting bigger fish. I bought the 3000 for the carbon drag, but even with the 2500 you can upgrade to carbon drag washers at any time.

I don’t use what is on the 2500. The carbon model reel is much lighter and with a compatible light rod it is a very comfortable set up. I use it for bass

Answer: I use my 5000 on a nine foot light surf rod for bluefish, stripers, false albacore, bonito, even caught a five foot brown shark on a lure with it and never a hint of being overwhelmed right out of the box. There is nothing in fresh water that can even come close the the pulling power of those fish pound for pound. if that helps. Size depends on the rod and personal choice more than anything. Larger size equals more line and a bit heavier simply put. Great reels for sure.

Answer: I have had a 5000 forever, on a 10.5 ft rod, and 4000’s on my 9 ft rods. That’s the perfect matches for me.

Answer: I only fish the gulf, inshore. The real is smooth and easy to cast. Use it on a Shimano 7 ft rod. Perfect fit.

There are issues with the bail tripping as you're casting. I have lost alot of tackle within 3 casts. All A-rigs. Trust me this is not because I am inexperienced. I own plenty of rods and reels. Going to contact seller and see if I can return it.

Quality in shimano products continue to go down hill , for 200 plus dollars it might be time to look for a new brand to support . I have over 20 reels overall the older ones are much better made . I would consider the new stradic cheaply made .

Love the new stradic FL so much I have a 3000 and a 5000 for mostly inshore fishing in south Florida.
Put the 3k to the test already for a year wading the flats and has landed upper slot sized snook easily on 15lb braid.
Still as silky smooth a year later. A testament to the added features in the new stradic FL that provides better protection against saltwater and the elements. My two favorite reels I use right now and I have a bunch of other shimanos as well! Get yourself one, you won't regret it.

Best reel on the market, not a better one at the price point. I’ve went through a lot of reels and by far my favorite (sold my spinfishers after getting this).
Smooth as better, super light and strong to boot. love the power handle on the 5000. feels well built, strong frame and super smooth retrieve. drag is solid and can take on anything I would fish for in saltwater.
If could only have one reel, would be a stradic fl 5000. i rarely reach for others after getting this.

I have two of these and two FJ models. The 5000 is nice with the round power knob. Caught several nice Snook with them on Avid series rods. Extremely smooth and I like the casting they provide. Seems an improvement over previous models. No maintenance port, but not that big of a deal to me...

I already had a Stradic Reel which has never let me down. This new Stradic FL is just an amazing reel. So light, smooth and tough. It looks amazing too. It oozes with craftmanship.
I genuinely cannot fault it. Easy casting. Fantastic handling. So smooth. It is a keeper and I would highly recommend it.
When I started out fishing about 5 years ago I got 4 reels in a row that were recommended to me by local retailers. All were cheap and all were rubbish. When I decided to invest in the Shimanos it made me realise how much money I had wasted. It is worth spending more if you are serious about fishing. Class reels.
