Answer: This reel is worth every penny. I pulled in 20 to 40 lb cat fish and it held up just fine. Im sure it will hold up for at least another 10 years

Answer: Yes you can use braided line on these reels.

How does the quality of the 6500 size compare to the penn spinfisher VI 6500?

Answer: Don't know about the 65 but the 55 quality is great. My friend broke his penn battle 2 when we were crab snaring. I took the reel of my 8ft striper rod and let him use it on his 12ft rod.

Answer: It is slightly smaller than the 3/4". It is 0.65 in.

letmepicyou : The 85 is HUGE, and should be good for some big fish.

There is a very good review online where a teardown is done of this reel, if you're interested in the internals, I highly recommend finding and watching that video. So with that available, I won't delve into the internals. Sticking more to the outer issues, it's hard to believe that actually decent, sealed reels are available. I can hardly wait to get this into some big water with this. I'd really like to get one of the smaller versions of this (such as the 35 or 40) now that I've got the big monster of the line. I'm that impressed with the quality, that I want to try others in the line up.

It's sealed, it's lefty/righty, it's less than a C-note, and it's actually made really, really well for a reel at this price point. You're going to have to spend more to get more, for sure, as I feel this is a real strong contender for "best sub-$100 reel". Happy fishing!

I have to say, dollar for dollar, this is probably the best reel I've ever owned. It isn't perfect but, for the price, it is impossible to beat. It is a price-class leader and holds it's own against much higher priced reels.

It presents an easy and smooth cast every single time. I am left handed and sometimes these two way reels don't quite cut it for a lefty like me but this casts perfectly from both sides. The spin is nice and I love the audible clicks. It is a tiny bit on the heavy side but that is really the only knock.

Performs great. Drag locks them down when you want! Feels beefy, it's a heavy reel and I like it! Did lock up a few cranks on a 2.5ft Jack reeling in from the 25ft pier but that's no big deal! Nice rig!

Phenomenal sealed reel for $99. I bought another 2 months later because of its performance and durability. I've surf fished and kayak fished with it and it handled well. Also it has taken a few dips in the waves with no problems. Just rinse with fresh water and oiled the bail. Well balanced, light weight, great anti reverse, smooth drag and looks sharp. Please don't buy this reel so the price doesn't go up????

Bought the Quantum Reliance for half off from the manufacturer for 50% off. Could have asked for more. I just abused it in the surf catching sharks ( on accident). A 60$ dollar sealed reel compared well to my other reels. My first quantum reel and it was a great first impression.

I got the reel one week ago, at first glance it looked fine! Good quality reel for the price, I was surprised. Spooled it with 50 pounds braid and took him to test with some big amberjacks. Super smooth drag, it performed excellent in the water, the bail and every part of it. Really amazed! I own Daiwas BGs, Tsunami Shields, and Penn Spinfishers VI and I have nothing bad to say compared to the Reliance. Hope my good impression lasts a lot more time of using this reel. This reel is a tank. I have used it for 1 year beach fishing. It has caught a 42 inch redfish with no problem. I own the 65. Sealed reel for 86 dollars? I would take this over anything not sealed for salt water fishing. You can tell its quality just by holding it.

Living close to the beach, I have been surf fishing for a number of years. I have used Quantum reels for local lake fishing and have become a fan so when I saw a decent value Quantum reel to partner with my surf rod I couldn't resist. The sturdy aluminum body provides a solid feel and a smooth reel. Its a little on the heavy side but I like it nonetheless.

WrongTurn : No spinfisher but I'm happy with it

When I saw there was a $99 sealed spinning reel I figured it was worth a shot. I am used to Penn Spinfisher VIs, so that is my comparison point. I will say it is not as smooth or quiet as my spinfishers, but it is not bad at all. Line lay was good when I spooled it up. Drag clicker is nice and loud, not blasting, but definitely audible.

I rigged it up and took it out on my kayak. Managed to snag a 19" Striper. I have the 30 size. Drag handled the fight perfectly well. Was super happy with it. Took it home and gave it a rinse since I'm in saltwater. Still feels great. Hopefully it holds up well.

4 stars instead of 5 simply because the Spinfisher is what I'd call a 5 star reel and this is just a touch under it in my opinion. For $99 as opposed to the $140+ of the Spinfisher though, I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Calbee Q : Perfect Finesse Reel！！

I have been loyal to Quantum for some time and reels like this one are why. Super smooth performance and lightweight! Have always loved the Titanium bail system, Smooth reel, excellent for a lazy retrieve. Holds flourocarbon or mono line with little added twist. Improves rod sensitivity to terminal vibration and handles overload with low entanglement. All sizes have smooth drag and have stood up to heavy smallmouth and largemouth fishing.

Stumbled on a school of blues 6-10lbs. The 30 size took in 15 of them before I got exhausted. Really nice and loud drag compared to daiwa BG and fuego (which I love). Piece of mind kayak fishing knowing it’ll get splashed and rarely dunked. Don’t crank in the fish with the higher gear ratio models, use your rod to gain ground then reel in what you fought for.
