Product reviews of Quantum Reliance Spinning Fishing Reel, Durable Aluminum Body, Right or Left-Hand Retrieve with 6 Bearings (5 + Continuous Anti-Reverse Clutch)
Amazon Customer : Good reel but a little noisy.
Reel seems to be made well. I have only fished it for three days but no issues so far. I would buy again.
Mr. Furkins' Human : Nice reel for surf fishing
Living close to the beach, I have been surf fishing for a number of years. I have used Quantum reels for local lake fishing and have become a fan so when I saw a decent value Quantum reel to partner with my surf rod I couldn't resist. The sturdy aluminum body provides a solid feel and a smooth reel. Its a little on the heavy side but I like it nonetheless.
Jody pope : Great for the money ????
Very stout reel fir the money, was able to battle abiut an 80 tarpon with no worries.
Matthew D. Mercer : A sealed reel for < $100
I own the 30 and the 40. I have 2 very minor knocks. The gear ratio is 6:2. I caught a 5 lb snook off the bridge w the 30 and barely could reel it up. The reel is made for speed not direct winching and was surprised I had a hard time. I AM a HARDCORE fisherman and have over 40 rods and reels. And the second nit pick is the weight of the 40. It is a tank and does what it's supposed to do but its heavy on casting all day in a kayak. But compared to Penn, it's a no brainer. Junk the Penns and get these for less $.

JustAce2006 : Awesome reel for the money. The drag is amazing.
Smooth drag. Looks great!!! Feels solid when fighting any fish.
Jaysinism : Nice Big Reel
The Quantum Reliance Spinning Fishing Reel. This is a very nice and smooth fishing reel. It go the size 85 and it is huge. I've been using it for flathead fishing and I feel it is a little bit oversized but it can tackle the biggest fish without any problem. It has a very smooth and easy retrieve. I would highly recommend this Quantum Fishing reel.
WrongTurn : No spinfisher but I'm happy with it
When I saw there was a $99 sealed spinning reel I figured it was worth a shot. I am used to Penn Spinfisher VIs, so that is my comparison point. I will say it is not as smooth or quiet as my spinfishers, but it is not bad at all. Line lay was good when I spooled it up. Drag clicker is nice and loud, not blasting, but definitely audible.
I rigged it up and took it out on my kayak. Managed to snag a 19" Striper. I have the 30 size. Drag handled the fight perfectly well. Was super happy with it. Took it home and gave it a rinse since I'm in saltwater. Still feels great. Hopefully it holds up well.
4 stars instead of 5 simply because the Spinfisher is what I'd call a 5 star reel and this is just a touch under it in my opinion. For $99 as opposed to the $140+ of the Spinfisher though, I am extremely pleased with my purchase.
Antoinette : Very Sturdy
Warm weather means major fishing trips for some of us. This reel is ready for any type of fishing. The one-piece construction is sturdy and durable. It won't quit on you when you need it the most. It's fairly lightweight and easy to install. It makes a great gift for anyone who loves fishing. I highly recommend it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this review. I hope the information that I've provided helps make your decision a little easier.
Joey : warranty
Solid construction, several size to choose, and most of all a 3yrs protection plan just by registering product indicate that Quantum stand by their product.
Steve B from MO : WOW
This is a sealed reel for under $100 that performs on par with the top brands in the $150-200 range and that is impressive. It's not quite as quiet as some of those reels but it is close! I am using it in fresh water going after big catfish, muskies, walleye etc but this would handle big salt water fish all day long. I'm actually using it on fish well below what it is capable of. I love this reel.
frank : Nice reel
I have an old Quantum blue runner that wont quit. Did some research and came across reliance pt. Bought a size 30 and 45. Been using them both for 2 months now. Very happy with my purchase.
BH : Very nice spinning reel
This is a VERY nice spinning reel. Nice smooth mechanism, bale is easy to set, just works great. Never had a problem with a Quantum product, that includes this one!
Amazoncust : Good Drag
Not as smooth as I thought but overall well built and durable so far, size 30 reel for all around fishing in back lakes.
Lacey P. : Helped us snag a huge fish!
I'm not a fisherwoman at all, I gave this to the guys to try out and they all have thumbs up and 5 stars! They took this out looking for these giant, ugly fish and they caught two! I'm sorry I'm not technically wise on this but they said it was exactly as described and really high quality. They recommend.
Calbee Q : Perfect Finesse Reel!!
I have been loyal to Quantum for some time and reels like this one are why. Super smooth performance and lightweight! Have always loved the Titanium bail system, Smooth reel, excellent for a lazy retrieve. Holds flourocarbon or mono line with little added twist. Improves rod sensitivity to terminal vibration and handles overload with low entanglement. All sizes have smooth drag and have stood up to heavy smallmouth and largemouth fishing.
Average guy : This is better then a Penn.
I own two, and own two penn fierce III> They both catch fish, they both cast and reel, but I just like the feel of the quantum.
kathryn m boyle : Happy
All good

Matt Morgan : Smooth Operation; Bail Does not Close on Retrieve
Note: There are multiple products attached to this listing. I am specifically writing this review for the Size 85 spinning reel.
One of my favorite pastimes is fishing, and my brothers and I have made a point of scheduling an annual gathering to go fishing. Usually, that means a saltwater trip, and when we have not rented a charter we have had to provide our own gear. I do have a large saltwater reel that has served me reasonably well but it is not particularly good (I’d call it sufficient). My experience with Quantum has been freshwater spinning reels, so I know it’s a decent brand but I hadn’t worked with their saltwater-ready reels at all before this one. This is a brute of a reel and is a smooth operator, though I have encountered what I consider to be a serious issue.
Please note, there are several different sizes of this reel. If you are looking to do freshwater fishing in a quiet pond or lake, the 85 is a beast that is probably more reel than you need. Consider one of the other choices. However, for going after saltwater fish, either from a pier or from the shore, this is a good choice if you expect to catch anything of good size.
This reel is solid and has a smooth retrieve and zero-reverse clutch that doesn’t give even a little bit. The drag is easy to set and seems to work very well, though I do wish it was a bit louder.
I’ve encountered on issue with this reel and I think I have a defective one. The bail does not close by itself when I start cranking, I have to manually flip it myself to lock it back into retrieve mode. I cannot tell if I have a bad unit or if this is a design decision. Regardless, it is different and unexpected behavior than I have had with every other spinning reel, whether saltwater or freshwater. I plan to reach out to Quantum to determine if this is right or not. Though it doesn’t render the reel unusable, it does make it more work than it needs to be.
I like this reel, but I hesitate to rate it higher because of the bail issue I am seeing. Once I contact Quantum and determine the reason, I will return here and provide an update. If the bail closed as expected, this would be an easy 5-star product.
Santiago Michel Vazquez : Great Reel!
I own a 65, a 55 and a 40 size. Great reel, performs super good! Drag is smooth and strong, braid capacity is acceptable, quality of the finish of the reel is nice. A real competitor to the Daiwa BG
Santiago Michel Vazquez : Completely Stunned!
I got the reel one week ago, at first glance it looked fine! Good quality reel for the price, I was surprised. Spooled it with 50 pounds braid and took him to test with some big amberjacks. Super smooth drag, it performed excellent in the water, the bail and every part of it. Really amazed! I own Daiwas BGs, Tsunami Shields, and Penn Spinfishers VI and I have nothing bad to say compared to the Reliance. Hope my good impression lasts a lot more time of using this reel. Saludos desde Mexico!
Dale : SMOOOOTH
Everything about it is smooth. Excellent drag, beautiful finish, great build quality. Really impressive reel for the price.
