Questions about Abu Garcia Revo SX Spinning Reel
Q:
what are the three small white gaskets for in box with new reel revo sx20 spinning reel
Answer: Those should be spacer washers, used to adjust line lay on the spool. If line stacks to the rear of the spool, add a washer on the shaft. If you have one on and the line stacks to the front of the spool, remove a spacer. Refer to the parts schematic.
Answer: Correction to the earlier response: If line stacks to the front of the spool, add a spacer; if it stacks to the rear, remove a spacer (if one is installed).
Answer: I believe they are there if you need to adjust the height on the spool. You probably won't have to, though.
Q:
can you change it from right handed to left handed
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes I believe you can.
Answer: Yes, take cap off opposite handle with a coin and move handle to right side.
Answer: Yes you can! Reversible.
Answer: Yes. Quite easily.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the manufacturers warranty period?
Answer: Warranty (from the Abu Garcia website)
Answer: One year on reels 3 years on rods.
Q:
What's the great ratio on the 20? And what's the bearing count?
Answer: 6.2:1 9 bearings
Q:
If the reel has a spare spool?
Answer: It does not.
Q:
I've seen that this can be spun forward and in reverse, is there a way to lock it so it can be spun backwards?
Answer: There is an anti-reverse switch. This prevents spinning backwards. If that is not set, you can spin it either way.
Q:
can you change it from right handed to left handed
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes I believe you can.
Answer: Yes, take cap off opposite handle with a coin and move handle to right side.
Answer: Yes you can! Reversible.
Answer: Yes. Quite easily.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Where can you get a spare spool from as like to have one with braid an one with with mono?
Answer: Get it from the ABU Mgt...I have there number if you need it.
Answer: The reel comes with a schematic and parts list. You have to order one using them and calling Abu Garcia customer support.
Q:
What is the weight of the X20?
Answer: I just looked on the Abu Garcia website, it says: 7.3 oz.
Answer: I don’t have any way to weigh it but it’s quite light. Balances well on my 6 ft spinning rod. Works extremely well. Very smooth, no glitches. My best reel.
Answer: 7.3 ounces
Q:
Owners, can you look in your product manual and determine if the drag system is "sealed" like the Daiwa and Penn products? Thanks.
Answer: I don't know how you define "sealed", but the drag stack looks very much like the stack on my Penn Battle II.
Answer: I don't think it would be classified as "sealed", since this is primarily a fresh water product. In my experience, and having just cleaned my gear at season-end, it is accessible and can get moisture inside the drag stack if submersed.
Q:
Please: is the drag sealed and what is the handle made of?
Answer: Not sure what you mean by is the drag sealed, but it is protected as well as any other reel on the market.
Answer: Cork handle..not sure about the drag
Q:
I'm mostly a freshwater bass angler, but once a year i visit the salmon river and hook 20-25lb king salmon... is the sx30 versatile enough for both?
Answer: The Sx30 is designed for 10# braid and has an 11# max drag setting. I have hooked into some Cobia and Shark with my Sx30, and that drag didn't put up much of a resistance. I landed the fish but only after an extended fight. If you plan to release the fish, extended fight times can be fatal.
Answer: I wouldn't even though it's possible, but why chance it and be more confident, capable plus more comfortable using the 4000 on 20-25 lb King Salmon.
Answer: I neve caught a 20-25lb fish with this. It’s made for 20lb and below from what I remember. It is my favorite.
Answer: I wouldn't though it's possible, but why chance it. Be more confident, capable plus more comfortable using the 4000 on 20-25 lb King Salmon. I use the 4000 for Salmon and so do about 75% of others guys I fish with. I tried 3000's on Salmon and it felt a little too small and one reel I used the reeling got so sticky and the drag got burnt, some bearings I guess. For the long run, stick w/the 4000.

Answer: Anything is possible, however, that would put a lot of strain on your equipment. I think you would be better off equipping yourself for the fish you want to catch.
Q:
Is there a lever to allow reverse cranking?
Answer: Yes
Q:
How would 6 pound test work on the 30??
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I m using 10lb lines so 6 lb would not make much difference. The reel is really light.
Answer: It would work fine, but you would spool a lot of line on it. Little big in my opinion. The 20 would be better
Answer: I would go to the 10 for light line. Also note that this reel has anti reverse failures due to a less than hardy spring that activates it. When switched to right hand reel, it compounds the issue.
Q:
What size wpuld be good for speckled trout/bass
Answer: All depends on what size of line you are going to run
Answer: During the winter months I fish in FL for spotted sea trout and reds, and in the summer I fish in MI for small mouth and large mouth bass. I use the sx20 for all this filled with 10# braided line.
Answer: Sx20 or sx30 would work. I prefer the sx30 for bass. Both are very light weight reels.
Q:
Does the drag click or is it silent?
Answer: silent
Q:
whats the best for catfish 40 ??
Answer: The SX40 is a bigger, more powerful reel compared to the 30/20/10. It has a 17 lb drag and the others are 11 maybe less in the 10? The SX40 holds more line and heavier line. How big are the catfish you intend to catch?
Answer: Yes should be fine
Q:
where are they made?
Answer: I really don't know, but they are pretty good reels.
Answer: I believe China
Q:
Hello, how much is shipping to buenos aires, argentina and how many days would it take? thank you
Q:
Can you put 50lb test on the reel?
Answer: Braid yes. Mono or fluoro no. Too thick to function properly on a spinning reel.
Answer: Can you? Sure. Should you? I wouldn’t. The drag and gear systems are too light for 50#.
Answer: I have a 40 lb braid on mine right now I don't see why not
Q:
What size would be good for bass and inshore saltwater?
Answer: I'm sure either the SX20 or SX30 would be perfect. I have the SX20. It's a smooth reel and holds 175 yds 8lb braided line. I haven't used it much but have caught both bass and red fish using it. I have no complaints. Pair it with a 6.5 or 7 foot light to medium light action rod.
Answer: I wouldnt buy anything but the 40 for saltwater
Answer: I bought the size 40. It doubles for bass in fresh water, stripers and redfish in the Chesapeake Bay.
Answer: The 40 holds 160 yds of twelve. Youll want that for any line rippers.
Answer: I primarily use the reel in salt water. It has handled several large redfish (10 Lb. Plus)
Q:
can you change it from right handed to left handed
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes I believe you can.
Answer: Yes, take cap off opposite handle with a coin and move handle to right side.
Answer: Yes you can! Reversible.
Answer: Yes. Quite easily.
Answer: Yes
Q:
X20 weight?
Answer: 20 wt line may be a little heavy for this reel. Just 2-weeks ago I was using my Revo in Canada matched with a 6'10 medium light ugly stick and jigging for walleyes and caught/landed a 15lb lake trout on 10lb test line. All worked/performed well...line/reel/rod. Lakers were shallow due to cold water temps 47-49 degrees
Q:
How much 20lb braid will it hold?
Answer: I put a 300 yards on of spider wire
Q:
The smaller size 10 reel im assuming would be the ul model. Will this be suitable for 2lb test monofilamant line??? Or is it to big for light line
Answer: Doug says, "No, it's not too big for 2lb monofilament line; it will work." He also adds it's a great professional reel.
Q:

Q:
Which reel would be best for largemouth bass? I have a few 20s right now
Answer: I use a x20 for Redfish and Sea Trout with no problem. In fact, I landed a 4' Bonnethead shark on that reel last winter. I think the drag on the x20 tops out at 11#, and I've never been anywhere close to the max setting. I put 10# braid on the spool, and some of the larger fish will turn the drag when they bulldog me, but hey that's ok.
Answer: 20 would be a good choice, holds plenty of line and casts great. Might be wrong but I'm thinking the 30 and 40 can run heavier drag though
Answer: This one. The Abu Garcia REVO25x30 Revo SX Spinning Reel is the one. Reels in the big girls.
Answer: Either one would work but I would go with the revo 30 because of the line capacity.
Answer: I don't recommend the product
Q:
Where are these made? Not Sweden?
Answer: I believe China
Q:
why is the 40 cheaper than the 30?
Answer: That probably would be just supply and demand. The 40’s are a little large for bass fishing. The smaller are best for shakey head and drop shot fishing therefore more demand.
Answer: Supply and demand. Probably not as popular. Depends on what you’re fishing for.
Q:
Is it just for righthanders only?
Answer: No, its not for righthanders only. You can attach the handle to either side of the reel.
Answer: This reel can be switched for either right or left handed use. Myself being left handed switched it over. I highly recommend this reel, it quickly has become my favorite reel.
Answer: No, you can attach the reel handle on either side. It’s an excellent reel.
Answer: The
Answer: Right or left
Q:
Please: is the drag sealed and what is the handle made of?
Answer: Not sure what you mean by is the drag sealed, but it is protected as well as any other reel on the market.
Answer: Cork handle..not sure about the drag
Q:
didnt see left hand option? is it available?
Q:
What size for panfish
Answer: The 10 or the 20 either would work, l would recommend the 20 because you could use it for panfish, trout, or smallmouth bass.
Q:
Is this item used for salt water? speckled trout, flounder, SX40?
Answer: While it can be used for those species, it is not an "inshore" specific model. If it is used as such, I would flush, clean and re-lubricate after each use. I think you are better off using a reel made especially for inshore fishing, like one of the Lew's, Penn, Quantum or Shimano models.
Answer: Yes, it works very well for those species. Be sure to give it a gentle rinse of fresh water after each use.
Q:
Is the abu garcia sx spinning revo2sx30 suitable for saltwater?
Answer: Personally, I’d use something bigger for saltwater. Big gator trout could be tough on this reel. If you clean the reel regularly, it should be fine.
Answer: Light saltwater but as with all reels, they need to be cleaned and oiled after saltwater use .
Answer: I’ve been using it for Salt for over a year with no problems. Seems to work fine as long as you rinse it off after.
Q:
Where can i find replacement parts for my abu garcia sx20 real?
Answer: You can go to the Abu web site for parts but I’ve had good success at https://www.ereplacementparts.com/abu-garcia-parts-c-187196.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=abu+garcia+Exact&msclkid=6823b6e4033a1c66cce1eae9aa6cfdf5&utm_term=Abu%20Garcia%20SX%2020%20Parts&utm_content=Abu%20Garcia%20Misc%20Reel%20Parts.
Answer: From garcia

Q:
is this left or right hand retrieve ?
Answer: It can be either or. The retrieve can unscrew to be put on either side
Answer: Comes left handed, but I am pretty sure u can switch it
Answer: You can set up this reel either way.
Answer: Yes. It can be assembled with the handle on either side.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Can i use 30lb braided line on this revo2sx40 reel?
Answer:
Answer:
Q:
What is the max drag?
Answer: Maximum drag on the REVO2SX30 is 11 lbs.
Q:
What size reel and what weight/type line would make a good set for walleye fishing
Answer: 2000, 2500 or 3000 reel with 6 or 8 lb fluorocarbon. If not too many big pike in the lake use 6 lb test or even 4 if high pressure fishery.
Q:
Does this come with the 2 spools, one for braid?
Answer: No. It comes with one spool. Doug says, "It's a beauty! But I'm a Garcia guy for life."
Answer: Neither of mine came with an extra spool.
Answer: Mine did not
Answer: No it does not.
Q:
whats the spec for the #40lb line or #30?
Answer: Not sure this is what you need. Your need sounds like a heavier type fishing. I use thes to fish for largemouth bass.
Answer: Mono 8lb 175 yd. braid 10lb 180 yd.
Q:
How much 4 lb test will this hold?
Answer: I’m not sure but I use 12lb test and about 200 yards
Q:
How do you get a manual for the revo 2sx30 ?
Answer: This link may help.
Answer: The Abu Garcia web site has a link to all the manuals. See here: http://www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-product-manuals.html
Answer: Google it. Make sure you call out the manual.
Answer: There should be one in the box, but you probably can get one online from Abu Garcia
Answer: Don't buy it
Q:
The abu garcia site states on a revo2sx40 14#/250 yard braid capacity (or 10#/230 yrd mono) - amazon description: 10#/123yrds. braid - which is it ?
Answer: I don't see any reference to 10#123 yards on the Abu web site for that reel. I do see the 14#/250 and 10#/230 specs.
Q:
Real come in right and left handed?
Answer: Like most reels of this design, the Revo SX spinning reel is convertible to either right-hand or left-hand cranking. The handle stem is machined to allow it to be installed on both sides. All you have to do after installing on the preferred hand is install the cover cap on the opposite side. Instructions furnished with the reel should show the procedure.
Answer: Handle can be moved to either side to fish right or left handed.
Answer: You can set it up for either right or left handed.
Answer: Yes. It will be the best spinning reel you ever buy.
Answer: Switch it to either side.
Answer: You can use it either way
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is it pre-strung with line?
Answer: No, it is bare spool.
Answer: No, it isn’t. But don’t let that deter you from getting this reel, I’ve put braided line on mine with a fluorocarbon lead and have been nothing but impressed with reel.
Answer: no
Answer: No
Answer: No it’s not.
Q:
Is the gear ratio 6:2:1??
Q:
Why can you only put one lb line on Per size as apposed to most others being 6,8 or 10 etc
Answer: You can put whatever size line on you want. It's just stating how many yards of a certain size line can fit on the spool. If your going to be casting a mile with heavy line you would want A bigger size reel like the 30 or 40. I use my 20 for drop shotting with 12 pound flourocarbon so I don't need a whole lot of line on it. I also use it in the river and have another spool with 15 pound braid, which is equal to 6 pound mono I believe.
Answer: What Abu Garcia says is just a recommendation. I do not have a 20 - but I have 3 of the 30's and one 40. I have used 10, 15, and even 20lb - but those were all braid which is a much smaller diameter than mono. However, 20lb mono would be too stiff for a 30.
Answer: Processing cost in an extrusion plant is very high when they change over to another size. They have to pick a few sizes and stick with them. Your question is a great one though. You made me think of why not odd sizes instead of even. That would make the company unique from a marketing standpoint.
Q:
what's the gear ratio?
Answer: 5.2 to 1
Answer: 7/1
Product reviews of Abu Garcia Revo SX Spinning Reel
Doris Schuetze : Five Stars
Great Reel!
Bluegrass Bob : Perfect
This reel is impressive. I’m super pleased with its smooth well balanced operation. All in all I’d say it performs way over its price-point.
I’ve paired it with a Daiwa TXT701MFS Tatula XT, 7 foot, Medium Power, Fast Action rod for drop shot and Senko fishing. Works perfect. Guntersville is my home lake so when the lilly pads, hydrilla, and heavy grass comes in i’ll probably go to a heavier rod and 50 - 65lb braid. Right now I’m running 20lb braid and a leader. I’m sure the reel will be fine for that application also.
Doris Schuetze : Five Stars
Great Reel!
Curt : nice all-around reel
I've been using it in Minnesota and seems great so far as an all-around spin reel, which is what I was seeking. I simply spooled it with 10-pound trilene mono and good to go for bass, crappie, walleye, and northern pike.
Malcolm K. Rawson : Rust
These reels use the old Shakespeare anti reverse clutch bearing. They rust badly. The same clutch bearing is used on all the small Penn spinning reels in the 2000 size.
Andrew Masotto : Smoothest spinning reel ive ever used with a great pricetag
Wow how do i begin to review such a perfect spinning reel. The casting distance is top notch for a spinning reel and very accurate for a spinning setup because the line comes off so smooth. The drag is outstanding it allows you to fish a lighter test fluorocarbon compared to a 60# braid so casting is a breeze. Everything about this reel is smooth and I reccomend it to anyone looking for a nice nearly perfect ree. If this helped please click that i was helpful. Happy Fishing
Frank F. : Smooth
This reel glides spinners through the water without tearing up your arms. The drag is a dream, had the pleasure of a few 5 minute trout battles on barbless hooks this last weekend.
BP : Five Stars
Very good reel on a medium light rod.
Amazon Customer : Five Stars
Great product
Michael W : There are many lower priced reels that are are a lot more enjoyable to fish with, all day long.
The reel casts great however the amount of effort required to reel in some baits makes me wonder how this reel was rated so high, buy a pflueger.
Camo Chris : excellent reel Love IT!!!
I am a huge fan of this reel. works so great and smooth. easy casting, drag is strong and smooth. Not that looks matter for usability, but everyone who sees my reel comments how nice it looks. Even got my local fishing store to start stocking them. for the price you can't go wrong with this reel. I use it for winter and summer steelhead fishing.
Jerold P. : Great
Great reel.

silky smooth drag and a powerful retrieve
Amazon Customer : and pretty as my wife puts it
Smooth, powèrful, and pretty as my wife puts it. Overall outta the box it's all I expected, haven't cough a 50 "with it yet so time will tell. Drag seem relentless, plety of power and constint.
Overall I give it a 8 rating. I put 100 lb power pro on it wish I had more line I can cast almost the whole spool
Hatrick : No replacement parts available on brand new so called quality gear!
Got this brand new reel, Revo2 SX20, called Abu Garcia for a replacement spool and it is discontinued. Spend $150 on a so called quality piece and cannot get simple replacement part. What kind of company is this! Abu Garcia...never again!!!
walter buzby : Good
Very smooth reel , highly recommended
Philippe Jean : Amazing!
So smooth and very efficient.. I put 10pounds G-Braid with a Ste-croix 7feet spinning rod.. i'm in heaven!!
Brian C. : This reel has turned out to be the best reel I have ever owned
This reel has turned out to be the best reel I have ever owned, I would also use the sellar again without hesitation.
Boo Anderson : Awesomeness. Totally rad reel. Yes
Yes! So smooth. I usually use the S series. Definitely a difference from S to SX. Thank you! Paired mine with the Abu 6' 3" Vendetta with 8lb spider wire braid. Very nice.
Angela Milton-Hensley : Poor quality control
I purchased for my son for Christmas and right out of the box the anti reverse doesn't work so we'll see how the warranty department works. I'll update review after that.
Brian David : Must have
Best reel on the market. Must have.
Terri Sue : Great reel.
Great reel.
Jan I. : Nice reel
Great product
gabby : I give it 6/5 star
I love this reel I use for my ultralite combo with a ugly stik. the reel has smooth drag.it cast really far with the light line and light lure.but right out of the box the bail did not automatically close just had to get it worn in.
Jordan : Reel for years
I've head this reel for a couple years now and I've got to say, it is one of the best reels I own. It is smooth as the day I took it to the box, and it has brought in many fish and I believe will serve me for many years to come.
Frank F. : Smooth

Chris G. : I bought because of the price point. However I ...
I bought because of the price point. However I feel as though I should have just saved more money and gotten the shimano ci4+ again. The abu is not as smooth and refined as the shimano.
Disappointed Amazon Customer : Extremely poor performing reel
I bought this Abu Garcia Revo SX Spinning because of the great reviews. It was a Christmas Gift for my husband. We finally had a chance to use the reel this spring, due to the winter weather. My husband is disappointment because the line goes under the spool and tangles around the gearing. It also gets hung up on the side decal on the spool. He has tried 3 different types of line test and the problem continue to occur each time. Now I have missed my window to return the product. Very disappointed.
TheChanMan : Good light weight reel
Very light and pretty smooth. I hooked a few 20+ " strippers with it. I m pleased with the reel.
dana french : The Best Spinning reel
I'm getting a little older now, I want high quality. This Abu Garcia spinning reel is the best I've ever had.
John Davis : Works Great except for one small issue.
Love the reel, but the bail isn't that smooth when I close it. Works fine and drag is smooth but the closing of the bail by hand is stiff and makes the reel feel like a cheaper model.
agl01 : A FISHERMANS delight
Smooth spinning reel with nice gray
joe : Pure garbage!!
This reel is a total piece of garbage! Feels like you are trying to roll a square wheel when trying to reel in a walleye. Feels OK when a fish isn't on it, my 35 dollar reel is WAY better. Don't buy this overpriced piece of junk! I am surprised by all the rave reviews. Defective? Worst reel I have ever owned in 40 years of fishing.

dana french : The Best Spinning reel
I'm getting a little older now, I want high quality. This Abu Garcia spinning reel is the best I've ever had.
Cody : I’m very satisfied with this reel
