Answer: It is made in China. Just Google it. I have 2 of them and I am very happy with the item. It is larger than most bait casters and is tougher than most. Holds more line and better drag system. it definitely unique as a baitcaster I look for Abu and Lews to follow as they do not have any in this size category.

Why dont Kastking mention that the Kapstan 300 doesn't have non-disengaging levelwind?

Answer: Yes of course. I ran 65lb braid for saltwater. Downsized to 40lb to fit more line. It's a work horse. Haven't had any issues with it. Just needs a faster retrieve speed.

Answer: Probably not. It's as good as any baitcast reel would be for a beginner. It will be as good as the instructions and practice that accompanies the use of the reel. For an early developing angler, a spinning reel would be better and less frustrating. Also, using braided line on the baitcast reel will reduce the number of tangles caused by backlash.

Answer: Well, everybody's an expert. If I were doing it, I would try a Daiwa Sealine Powerlift, 7 ft., medium wt. Or, maybe a medium wt. Zebco Sportfisher salmon/steelhead casting rod. Not sure about the length available, but even a little longer would be okay. I'm using the Zebco and it's a great rod for your purposes.

Answer: This reel is not what you need for yellowtail. It is more appropriate for calico bass and barracuda. You would need the next size up reel in the 400 size, this reel is a 300 size reel.

For a 300 size bait caster, it gets the job done. It's the same value you expect from kastking (there's always some compromise, but overall positive).
The only real complaint is that it feels like it was designed for giant hands, even for a 300 reel. If you're doing anything other than bass fishing, it's a fantastic reel.

I absolutely love these reels. I have a catfish guide service and I bought 3 of these 2 years ago to try them out and see how they hold up. I can tell you I have abused the heck out of them and they stand up to any other reel in their class. They have more drag than you'll need and a ton of power when catching big fish. From 50# winter time blue cats to 3 pound eater blues in the summer, this reel will do it all. I have used them trolling in salt water and have yet to find the limit of what this reel can handle. The bait clicker is nice and loud and this thing will cast a mile. I am using them with 30# braid and a 2 oz no-roll sinker and I'm getting 70 yard casts easy. They're super easy to clean and when I opened them for the 1st time I was happily surprised to see all metal gears and parts. I expect these to last for years to come. I want to get some more and go with these exclusively for my Guide Service rods. Usually I'll put anywhere from 6-12 rods out at a time and the 3 that I own are always in the selection. I recommend the optional power handle. Makes a ton of difference when fishing a big fish. For the money, you aren't going to beat these reels. In fact, you can spend a lot more on the other name brands and still wont come close to the features and quality of this reel. Can't wait to complete my set and fish exclusively with them.

Alright, i am a shiumano freak. But i needed some catfish reels that had a clicker and not a brick or stupid expensive. I tried abu garcia and daiwa, needless gto say i sent them back. I found these and i am amazed. The clicker is solid, it holds great in heavy current. The castability is wowiung. I have been using caitcast reels for 30 years. I have all types and shiumano is the king untiul now. These kastking kasttan blew my mind. My fiurst cast i threw a 2 oz weight and i went so far in the trees i had to break my luine. I have 2 of them and they cast so good, backlashs are rare. Even when you snap your line with heavy weight. I have had these for a few months now. I have caught around 100 fish on these and 20 over 20 pounds and one 35 pounder. I have themn on ugly stik catfish rod 7’. Great setup. The drag is unreal, cranking big fish up in river current is a breeze. These reels are truely solid. I don’t carfe for the centrifugal force brakes ussually but this reels system works amazing. I mean it is really impressive. I fish alot like 4 times a week on average. I had serious doubts when i got these, but now i have 3 of the eagle spinning reels for myu boys to which are also great. These reels are really nice to for me cause i hate round reels,, you the benfit of an oversize low profile with big boy pants on. It is east yo cast with, clicker is awesome, drag is as advertised, cranking is as smooth as my shumanos, i have 50lb mono on thses, i am not a braid guy, it holds more than enough for bank river fishing and pier fishing. I did try braid on one. It casted awesome, no issues and you can hold alot of line, i just don’t care for uit, i fish rocky areas and it is not as abrasive resistent as big game trilene. Long story short, buy them if it fits your needs worth it. I plan on buying a standard low profile also to try out for bass fishing. Anyone who is complaiuning about these just is not expierienced with baitcasters or fishing.

Amazing. I immediately replaced the handle with a Gomexus T-Bar handle. Spooled 50lb braid. Took it to the North Farallon, this thing is a beast. I'm able to haul in a few 14lb+ Lingcod with no issues. I even question myself if the fish is still on while retrieving the line. It's my 5th trip so far for deep sea fishing with this reel. Deck hands were impressed too with the smooth line retrieve.

I do maintenance on the reel after every trip. Clean wash, apply reel oil on the tension knob and gears.

Awesome reels. fit and finish are great and they do everything I need it to from casting big swimbaits and spinners all day on my muskie rod to big weights and live baits on my flathead rod.

Received my third kapstan and fit, finish and looks wise it's just as good as the others I have. However this new one has a lot of flex at the reel seat, time will tell if this will be an issue or not.

Finally put this reel to the test in the inshore waters of Cape Canaveral, FL. Pitched a live pigfish into the mangroves and it got smashed by a Jack Crevalle. A Jack in 12-14 inches of water... yep! This fish was so gd strong! If it wasn’t for the high drag on this reel I would’ve been broken off in the mangroves. I literally stopped him within inches of the mangroves. I had another setup on my kayak with me and if I would have used that, there was no chance of me stopping him.

The only reason I’m giving it 4/5 stars is it isn’t perfect. Casting isn’t that smooth but it’s not bad. I think this reel excels at pitching live bait or soaking some cut bait from kayak or boat. I wouldn’t want to cast it all day. Its not really a low profile reel you can comfortably palm.

Overall, I recommend this for carp and cat fisherman, live baiting, or trolling. Good price for what it is. I don’t regret my purchase.

Absolutely amazing product, prior to adding this power handle I was not overly impressed with the reel. But after adding this power handle and using to battle one fish around 15 pounds it made a huge difference.

I love this reel it light weight for its size ease of cast. Granted I unfortunately I haven't landed a Muskie but have had a few chase and 2 hooked just not landed (not the reels fault the anglers). It is very comfortable to hold just a very smooth reel. I WILL BY MORE FROM KASTKING.

Smooth casting. Mine is set up with the 7-Eleven soft tip rods medium heavy 12 pound test floral carbon mainly use for crank bait fishing. I have been wanting to try on a Carolina rig as of yet I have not I look forward to doing that. I have a trip next week I’m going to try saltwater fishing for reds.

This product was exactly what I was looking for. I purchased an extra heavy muskie casting rod and was looking for a heavy duty baitcasting reel to put on it. My initial research sent me in the direction of the Shimano Tranx, but the larger variants of that reel are hundreds and hundreds of dollars. While I am certain the Tranx is a quality product, I began to search for something less expensive. This brought me to the KastKing KAPSTAN 300. I already own 3 KastKing reels and they are all great so I knew that this reel would be worth it. It arrived in less than 24 hours, was well packaged and is exactly what I was expecting. I have yet to use the reel, but I have no doubt that it will exceed my expectations after using my other KK reels. With 35 pounds of drag and plenty of room to spool heavy braid, this reel is everything I wanted . Now I just need to get a Muskie on the line.
