Forged Aluminum and Double Anodized Front Cover Forged aluminum provides strength and durability while the double anodization causes the front cover to be anti-corrosive and scratch resistant. The forged aluminum and double anodized front cover looks great while also protecting the inner components of the reel. | Triple-Cam Dial-Adjustable Disk Drag The triple-cam dial-adjustable disk drag provides evenly distributed force on the drag disks, causing smooth drag performance in high-lockdown or low-end drag situations. | 3X Positive Pick-up Ceramic Pins 3X positive pick-up ceramic pins provide 3X the opportunities to pick up line in a single revolution for catching line even faster than before (versus a single-pin system). Ceramic outlasts other materials used for pick-up pins because ceramic is resistant to abrasion from high wear and reduces friction within the reel. |

Questions about Zebco Omega Spincast Fishing Reel, 7 Bearings (6 + Clutch), Instant Anti-Reverse with a Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears and Spare Spool
Q:
Anybody use this for crappie fishing? If so, how did it do? Thanks!
Answer: I am very pleased with the performance of my Z03 reel. My main use of it is medium/ heavey fresh water fishing. I am certain that it would work well for crappie, but I would spool it with lighter weight line. Maybe you should take a look at the Z02 or 33 model Zebco reels if you would like a more compact reel.
Answer: I use this " work horse" for everything in fresh water it was great for country mile casting , drop shot & trolling ... I am so impressed with this Zebco Omega reel I bought one for a bunch of my fishing buddies who would never use a " closed face reel"... Boy were they all shocked Zebco has totally redeemed it's self with this true craftsman built reel... I have caught Large mouth, small mouth, crappie, blue gill, big cats, pike, perch, walleye & eel with this reel...I do suggest you take off the pre spooled Red Cajun line unless your totally fishing in muddy water... I use Sniper Fluoro ...
Answer: I learned about this reel with a lady friend fishing bass with me pulling in 41/2 pound bass with this great reel. I ordered three online the same day. If it will handle the bass we were catching, I'm more than sure it would be great for crappie. Good luck with your fishing.
Answer: This is one of the best and easy to use reels that I own, I use it for crappie and everthing else.
Answer: It is one of the best spincast reels I've ever had. I bought one for my grandson and, after using it, bought a second one. Could be a little heavy for crappie, but a quality reel.
Answer: I’m sure you can, but it’s quite heavy. Maybe a Z02 would be more ideal and comfortable for Crappie fishing.
Answer: No, I didn't, but watch the line. I had two of these, and both frayed and eventually broke the line, no matter what type of line you used. I finally had to send it into a repair shop...took about 6 weeks to get it back. But I do love the reels...once they're fixed.
Q:
1) does this come prespooled with line 2) will this fit an ugly stick?
Answer: Yes it comes with 10Lb line and yes it would fit on an Ugly Stick 6' to 6' to 6.5' would be perfect
Answer: Yes it does I believe its a red line can't remember what test strength it is sorry and it will fit any regular size pole and most are happy fishing. Kevin
Answer: Yes it does come with line prespooled. It should fit most rods.
Answer: This comes with line and will fit on the ugly stick. Good buy.
Answer: It is already spooled and should fit your rod.
Answer: Yes, mine came with line. And I have mine on an ugly stick now.
Answer: Yes it will!
Answer: Yes on both questions
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is the Z02 the same size as a common zebco 33, or same size as a zebco micro 11, or somewhere in-between?
Answer: The size is in between Zebco 33 and Micro 11. It is about as heavy as the 33.
Answer: I believe the Z02 is smaller than the zebco 33, I use it on my crappie pole. Is very light weight. Second one I have bought, first one still works fine just bought another one for a back up.
Answer: I would rate it as somewhere inbetween, but it's close to the 33 in size, and is probably a little heavier than the 33.
Answer: It is smaller than the "33" but larger than a min size.
Q:
What is the weight of the line that comes on this?
Answer: Not positive, but it appears to be 10# and it is red in color which I assume is Cajun Line. Not at all impressed with this reel.
Answer: 6lb I believe and the zo3 was 10 lb both red cajun line.... Neither reel lasted a day btw. Junk
Answer: Mine came with 6 lb. red Cajun Line.
Answer: I believe it was 6 lbs. I really like this little reel, is light weight, makes my 2nd one I have bought!!
Answer: 6 lb test line
Q:
Are the gears metal or plastic?
Answer: Metal gears. very nice reel and have used it to bring in a 4.5 lb trout and a 12 lb cat fish. Loved the reel I bought a second.
Answer: Metal gears, built like a tank compared to other less expensive spincast reels.
Answer: The gears are machined brass.
Answer: I don't know and I can't look at it as it is out in Arizona and I'm in Illinois. It does work great though.
Q:
This one looks like it has a pink tint to it. is this so? my wife wants a pink reel so our two boys stop using hers.. lol seriously.
Answer: It isn't pink, just a normal zebco chrome. Better buy extra reels for the boys because it is a great reel. Have had mine for year and a half with no problems lol
Answer: I don't think mine is pink, but dare anyone to use Granny's fishing pole. I do love the real. It is smooth and would recommend it to anyone. My older son thinks it is a good one.
Answer: It's not really pink at all. It's more of a very light bronze. The boys will want it. Sorry.
Answer: the reel is silver--the line in it is red
Answer: Lol..no not pink... mine is white and brown/tan
Q:
Can you buy a replacement cap for the Omega spincast reel
Answer: Yes ,all parts are available from Zebco. I had to replace the handle geared shaft on 1of mine that my grandson over worked.
Answer: For parts please give us a call at 1-800-588-9030
Q:
For a beginning youngster, what are the main differences between the omega z02 and the z03 reels ? which should i get him ? (boy, age 5-1/2) why ?
Answer: The main difference between the Z02 and Z03 is the size of the reel. The Z02 is smaller which might be more suitable and easier to handle for a little boy's hands. I would suggest the Zebco 22 initially if you can find one. They are nice inexpensive reels that he can learn on and develop good habits. The ZD2 would be a good follow on reel once he's older and has caught the fishing fever.
Answer: The Z02 would be a better fit for a youngster. The drag won't stay set on the one I purchased. I have used Daiwa Goldcast reels for years and I personally prefer them. They have a ball bearing drive and oscillating spool, much like a spinning reel, which keeps your line managed. I would suggest the GC80. It is 55.00 on Amazon. It is also light with smooth cast. I have mine on an Ugly Stick rod. I trout fish in the Great Smoky Mtns where I live, and I put mine through rough use.
Answer: Sorry I have no idea what the differences are between them, just know I love the reel, is light weight, very smooth cast
Q:
What’s the ference between this and z03 clam package
Answer: Clam is a clear plastic heated together, like they do for kids toys.
Q:
Do you sell quich change spools with 10 lb line for Zebco Omega Z03?
Answer: Easy to order spare spools from Zebco! Ordered parts from them and they deliver in a timely manner
Answer: You can purchase them from Zebco direct.
Answer: We apologize, but we do not.
Answer: Thank you for your question. But, unfortunately we do not.
Q:
Can you switch the handle to the left side?
Answer: Hi There, Yes it's very simple to swap over, just an outer cover screw and an inner screw.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Does this Reel come with 10lb line already on it?
Answer: Yes. Mine came with red line. They also come with an extra spool, (actually a disk) that has no line on it. I just loaded 12lb. on the extra to keep in my tackle box in reserve---the extra disk is small, so even though it does not hold a lot of line it takes up little space. Been using the original spool/disk for a couple of seasons now and have not yet had to replenish the line on it. Just keep in mind that these are ideal for small lakes or streams, so a large amount of line is not really a limiting factor. They come spooled with 60 yds. as I recall.
Q:
i know it can take up to 10 lbs line but how much and will that effect be a problem.
Answer: Depends on how thick the line is ,10 lb line comes in more than one diameter ,depending on maker & type of line being used.
Answer: It will hold a little less line. The type of line you use can make a difference. Buy the better line for a smaller diameter and more flexible. The smaller line will cast better on small jigs.. I use 10lb for bass and crappie with no problems Hope this helps
Answer: Depends on what type line you use. Monofilament works best for me.
Answer: 14lb max line would likely be okay. Anything more you run into casting issues and spooling concerns.
Q:
Prime member here. Can this item be returned to Amazon?
Q:
Sounds good but I'm a little suspicious of the soft-touch button. Isn't it a little squishy and hard to manipulate compared to a hard button?
Answer: Truthfully its not that squishy....more like a padded hard button.... these reels are not hard to manipulate. I have two of them and they are definately worth the cost.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I have five of these reels and the soft touch button is great. I've used my reels hard catching 5-9 lb stripers and no problems with the buttons at all.
Answer: The button is neither soft nor mushy. After using the reel for 5 minutes you'll be just fine. Should replace your spinning reels. This reel is as accurate as you want it to be. Very long casts. Start with short casts away from limbs and docks. After 3 or 4 casts you'll see what i mean.
Answer: No it works great just like the hard ones
Q:
The new Zebco 33 has what they call continuous anti-reverse. The older ones had a lever you could switch this feature off. What about this reel?
Answer: My reel does not have a lever, or the Zebco “ bite alert “ switch. Only drag adjustment. This reel is not a 33 either.
Answer: I have a Z03 and a Z02 Pro, on both reels the anti reverse is permanently engaged.
Answer: It has it but no lever for it anti reverse that i remember seeing
Q:
What is the best length and action rod for this reel? Thanks!
Answer: My thoughts on this subject is I feel that it depends on what species of fish you are targeting and what methods you intend to use to catch them. When it comes to the reel just remember to match your rod to the weight of line you have spooled on the reel. I use my omega reel on 3 different rods ranging from a 6ft Ugly stick for casting artificial baits, a 7ft Cabelas for slip bobber walleye fishing, and a 8ft ugly stick for planer board trolling. With this reel and these rods I fish for bass, walleye, and northern pike.
Answer: Action depends on bait and technique you plan on using. 6-8 feet seems ideal lengths.
Answer: I use a Shakespeare Ugly Stik, medium action, 6'-0" in length.
Answer: Lite
Q:
does it have bait alert
Answer: No, the Zebco Z03 does NOT have a bait alert.
Answer: No. I've never used bait alert, but I have two of these reels in a junk drawer. They worked nice for a year or so, then started hanging up when I tried to cast. I now buy the black Z03 Pro, and have had much better success.
Q:
The screw cap fell out and the handle and other parts fell out and are lost.... Can I get another cap and associated parts that hold on the handle?
Answer: Email the company
Answer: Order them from the company you should have a parts list of what you need ( use thread locker next time for peace of mind )
Q:
is this product specifically zebco zo3pro.10.bx3 - omega pro sz3 spincast reel? just want to know for sure before purchasing. thanks!
Answer: I bought zebco omega zo3 spincast reel that the only description on the box says professional spincast with 2.9:1 with 7 bearings - hope this helps
Answer: Not sure what you are asking here. I have this reel and love it! Best one that I have had in years. Very smooth operation.
Answer: The Omega Pro is black in color and comes with a single or double grip handle. Other then that, both Omega models are the same.
Answer: NOT SURE ,BUT IT'S A GREAT REEL & WELL WORTH THE PRICE.
Answer: Yes it's the real deal
Q:
has anyone have any experience with zebco z02 vs the zebco omega pro, & what is the difference between these 2 reels ?
Answer: I don't know the difference however, the omega Z 02 is an excellent lightweight reel. For panfish it is smooth operating with a good drag system. The gear ratio is slow which is good for crappie. The only complaint I have is the rubber cover over the casting button tends to wear out after seven or eight years of weekly seasonal use. Some complaint huh? We have used them for twenty years or more.
Answer: The Zebco 2 is an ultra light! The 3 is a regular size spin cast, the same is true for the Pro models. The black pro model has a differnt machining slots on the cover openings. The pro also comes with a double or single grip handles. Both series come with an xtra spool and are a very easy quick change.
Q:
For Spincast reels, do most folks (Retrieve) with the handle on the left or right sides ? (if left, why do they seem to come with handle on the right
Answer: Every spin cast reel I've owned was set up for right hand retrieve. The Zebco Omega is easily converted to left hand if that's what your preference is.
Answer: most people are right handed, but if your a novice fisherman and right handed you will control rod with right and reel with left. this is a beginners reel for kids and they will tend to reel with dominant hand which most of the time is right.
Answer: This unit is adjustable right- or left-hand retrieve.
Q:
I can not get the rear cover to pop off my omega reel. Is there a trick or is mine just tight?
Answer: That's because it does NOT "pop off." DO NOT attempt to force it off. Take off the front cover; next remove the spinnerhead; then remove the spool. You will notice two holes in the reel body. Using a no. 1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws located inside these two holes. It is easier than it sounds. Good luck. David
Answer: Mine comes off easy. Make sure you didn't dent it that could make it really hard to remove and get back on.
Answer: I had the same problem the one I have is an older model that I have the rubber boot that releases the line rotted out and I wanted to replace it and I could not get it off.
Answer: Try turning it slightly left and right, like you'd do opening a jar. Once it loosens up it should come off with a hard twist left.
Q:
What is claim package?
Answer: The Clam package means it comes in a Plastic container.
Answer: "Clam" packaging is a clear plastic that the edges are sealed around a product by heat. Think of kids toys with the plastic you cut with scissors.
Q:
Can you use this reel with a smaller braid like a the KastKing extremus 20 Lbs?
Answer: It is an extremely well built reel. I would have no problems puttig braid on it
Answer: No, definitely not. I tried several to get more lbs test. It doesn't pick up or spool well. Sorry.
Answer: Yes I think that would be fine I have two of these it’s a great reel
Answer: I dont see why not?. But I personally havent tried it
Answer: yes, that's what I use on mine
Answer: Yes indeed.
Q:
The screw cap fell out and the handle and other parts fell out and are lost.... Can I get another cap and associated parts that hold on the handle?
Answer: Email the company
Answer: Order them from the company you should have a parts list of what you need ( use thread locker next time for peace of mind )
Q:
Does this Reel come with the 10lb line already on it? Thanks All
Answer: The Cajun Red is terrible line. Run your finger's along it and it very uneven in texture, seems brittle and don't care for the memory coiling. The more you pull line off the spool, the more pronounced the coil. Replaced mine with DuPont Stren..lays flat and no coiling. Cabela's Pro Line works well to for a decent price, low memory to.
Answer: yes comes with red cajun line which is the worst line i have ever had on a reel but my wife liked it but she did not know that was why she was losing the bigger catfish. Breaks especially at the knot.
Answer: Yes. I change it to 12 lb trilene xl first thing.
Answer: yes it does
Answer: Yes, mine did.
Q:
what is the line weight limit
Answer: Hey I use a 10b test mono works great
Q:
Can any owners tell me if this has an automatic reel-in function? I'm looking for the best and have come to demand this.
Answer: Does not. Also, gear ratio is less than 4:1, so it does not reel in quickly. It is, however, the finest spincaster I have seen. Very smooth with 7 bearings. I have used it extensively on a small lake from a boat. In these close confines mine works well on a medium-heavy 6' Ugly Stick. Best lure we have found for this combo is the Crappie Thunder "Greenie". Have caught bass, cat, and many a crappie with this setup.
Answer: no auto function on this reel. I have had several. they don't die and continue to work hard. have caught fish up to 11 pounds on this reel with 12 pound trilene. the drag is quite good for heavy, running fish. I keep a couple of these on the ready in the boat for quick pick when I see activity on species other than what I am fishing for. very, very dependable
Q:
Is this reel right hand wind only or can it be changed?
Answer: I have seen no signs in this reel of a left change option. The much older Johnson Centuries had this option. They are still available on ebay at times. They are great and do not twist the line on retrieve. Don't know how they managed this...but they invented the closed face. I would recommend the zo3 and learn to use it. it is a flawless reel. change the line out to 10 or 12 lb trilene xtra smooth. also use reel majic spray (available at walmart) a couple of times per day. Hope this helps.
Answer: Hi, Scott: It is either side. I changed mine to left. You will notice a blind screw on the side opposite the wind side. Remove it, then you'll see a brass colored screw under it. Be careful when you remove this screw---there is a brass color spacing collar under it---after you take those out, just shift sides with the crank and replace the collar, screw, and blind screw and you're all set.
Answer: right hand- not switchabe
Q:
How long from order to delivery?
Q:
can this reel use 20 lb. line for salmon fishing?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I would'nt take it above 12 lb. test. Need a bigger reel for 20 lb test for trouble free operation
Answer: I don' know, but any time you put heavy line on a spinning reel you take a gamble on nesting probs.. the heaviest line i use is 12lb. You are also limited as to how many yards will fit on a spool with 20lb test. Good luck.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does this have bite alert? My spouse actually likes that feature.
Answer: No, but it is a really nice reel. Best of this type I ever owned. High quality.
Answer: Hi there. No it doesn't but other than that this is the best reel I have ever used.
Q:
Will this handle large fish?
Answer: Reels are rated by line capacity and recommended pound test line. By large fish how large 3lb , 5lb ? Pair up the reel with a pole rated the same.
Answer: I use it for Speckeled Trout and Red Drum. I use a six foot Ugly Stick medium action and know it will handle any of those species. It is really a very well made smooth operating reel. Highly recommend.
Answer: I use this reel on a compact travel rod set up, caught a good size Pike using this set up in Scotland from a Boat.
Answer: Yes it will. Caught some nice sized catfish using this item.
Q:
What does 'ipt' stand for in zebco reel specs?
Answer: Inches per turn ipt. Happy fishing. Kevin
Answer: IPT is "inches per turn"
Answer: That is Inches per Turn. That is for how many inches of line is retrieve per 1 full turn of the handle.
Answer: Inches per turn
Answer: Inches per turn
Q:
will it work for salt water
Answer: I think it would work for salt water as well as fresh water. Having said that, I was disappointed with the Zebco Omega Z02. It casts and retrieves find, but the drag adjustment is faulty in that it's almost non-existant on the reel I purchased. My reel has zero drag until it's fully engaged at which point it's fully braked. There aren't many choices left for reasonably priced spincast reels. I expected better performance for the price. Best wishes.
Q:
can't find a 6 to 6.6ft Shackspeare Ugly Stik GX2 Spincast rod with medium action for my Z03 on here, Can someone help? Thanks All
Answer: If Wal-Mart does not carry them in store, order one on line and pickup at store. Orders of $50.00 or more shop free. I've got my Omega's mounted on Berkley 6ft & 6.6 ft HD Cherry Stick rods and it's been a good combo
Answer: A spincast reel uses the same type of rod that a baitcasting reel uses. A 6ft. Shakespeare Ugly Stik casting rod is a common rod. I purchased mine from Wal-Mart. If you can't find one there then try Shakespeare's website (they sell Shakespeare products online).
Q:
Anyone used braided line with the Omega's?
Answer: Hello
Answer: I have "tried " different braids... the only one which works "ok".. ( don't get snagged inside) is Berkeley Fireline!!!
Answer: I HAVE NOT USED BRAIDED LINE.
Answer: This whole unit is a hunk of %!$&... That's the only thing you need to know. Just trying to help man, good luck on the water.
Answer: I did not
Q:
Will this rod work for 1 to 2 lb rainbows, paired with an ultralight reel with say 2 lb test mono line?
Answer: This is a solid reel. I’ve gone through quite a few other brands and I’m glad I found this one. It’s fun and easy to use. My 9 year old son loves it too. We catch rainbows from 1-4 lbs no problem.
Answer: Not sure, but have pulled in some nice catfish!
Q:
Can it be used for saltwater Size line
Q:
Is there a difference between this z03 and the black model besides the color and the double crank handles?
Answer: Yes , the pro (black Z03} the handles don't come out as easy as the regular Z03 which I think is better due to having to put the handle back in my regular Z03 several times and I haven't had to with the Pro Z03 {black one}.
Answer: The black one that you reference is the "Omega Z03 pro" where is this one is just the Omega Z03.... both have seven ball bearings but the pro is a little larger, aside from that and the color I'm not sure the differences, you can always call the manufacture for specifics though :-) hope this helps
Answer: The zo3 pro has aluminum drive gears and the zo3 has brass drive gears... thus the difference in weight. IMO the zo3 is a better built reel than the zo3 pro and cheaper as well. I know this for a fact because I called Zebco directly and questioned them about the drive gears in the zo3 pro.
Answer: You actually get both a single and a double handle with the Pro which is about $10 more.
Q:
what is the color? Looks white in the image.
Answer: Not white. Metal color. I think aluminum.
Answer: these are silver. stay with the silver. the pro models are black and do not work near as well as the silver omega. hope this helps.
Answer: The ends are chrome/silver and the band is light gold.
Answer: Chrome
Q:
What is the difference between Z03 clam package and this one
Answer: It is the same reel only different packaging.
Q:
have they improved the drag?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Well the spool mounts on a metal housing, not plastic like the older 33's etc., which I didn't care for. I like the improvement, drag adjustment more sensitive, but I like it and no problems catching fish in the fast current of the Misourri River
Answer: Not sure what the old drag was like.... I have two of these reels and they work great . No problems at all
Answer: Not really. It is very sensitive on mine, a bit too sensitive for me. Other than that, it is a nice reel but I still prefer my Omega 181.
Q:
Is it very difficult to place line on extra spool when i'm ready to replace ? Just got mine in today .
Answer: I haven't done it yet but look at the one already done and it shouldn't be a problem just read instructions on new line before you try
Q:
I have a lady zebco 22. Is the z02 the most comparable?
Q:
Can this be used for saltwater fishing?
Answer: I used the Z03 yesterday and caught 8 crappie and one cat, but the Z03, as good as spincasters get in my opinion, has the same constraint that all spincasters have---they don't hold much line, so they are not a good saltwater choice, where much more line is usually required than for most freshwater use.
Answer: The z03 can be saltwater fished....HOWEVER, I would strongly recommend a huge fresh water shower afterwards. You will notice a change in performance very quickly if you do not keep the salt from sitting...even overnight! Just got back from the coast with 3. Gave them several good baths but still believe I can feel where I did not get the salt out. It's doable, but perhaps not recommended.
Answer: When you fart and a little bit comes out.
Q:
What gear ratio is this real?
Answer: I haven't any idea. Fast for a small reel. The cajun red line sucks.
Answer: Mine says 2.9:1 on the box
Answer: Had to look on another site and it said 3x1
Q:
Is this new or used?
Answer: new
Q:
How to repair the drag
Answer: If you purchased a reel with a broken drag send it back if you want to adjust it turn the wheel just above the black release button.
Product reviews of Zebco Omega Spincast Fishing Reel, 7 Bearings (6 + Clutch), Instant Anti-Reverse with a Smooth Dial-Adjustable Drag, Powerful All-Metal Gears and Spare Spool
Robert Martin : Good Reel
ok, I heard all the hype about this reel, tried it and I do like it, but I believe it is a far stretch to say it preforms better than the Diawa GC80, j enjoy both reels but tend to like the GC 80 better for using the light luers, just have a better retrieve with it, provided you turn off the drag switch knob and reel it in... Well as far as this ZO2 is concerned reels in very smooth cast great and built solid.. Just recommend staying with the 6lb line with these kind of reels, performance is better wth 6 LB line... Just wish it had a faster geer ratio is all
SHANGHI JIM : GOOD FOR BEGINNER FISHERMEN AND
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER OMEGA REEL THAT IS BOUGHT TO ADD TO MY REEL COLLECTION. WORKS PERFECTLY FOR FISHERMAN WHO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH BACKLASH ON CASTING REELS. WE HANDLE HEAVY DUTY USE, UNLIKE OLDER zEBCO REELS THAT WEAR OUT QUICKLY. GOOD FOR BEGINNER FISHERMEN AND KIDS
Jerry : Good basic reel.
I bought this for my wife as a heavier duty reel for catfish fishing. I reloaded it with braid and put a mono leader.. reel works as expected..no problems or issues..
HKB : great casting reel
item as described and works great. the factory line that comes already installed is a little on the light side so i plan to install a heavier pound test line.
Glen : Zebco Omega
Great spincast reel. You can feel and see the quality.
Ronald P. : It's OK
It is smooth but it seems like it's more of a 10/1 ratio recovery. You have reel several times just to retrieve 1 foot of line.
mkw : The last reel you'll ever need to buy.
I've used Zebcos for many years. Mostly the 33's. Always liked their simplicity and reliability. Treated myself to this Z03 and couldn't be happier. Very smooth retrieve and ideally placed thumb wheel for setting drag. Solid and sturdy all around.
Mission, BC : Smooth action reel
Quality reel built to last
wendell miklos : Can't get much better!
Oscillating spool is the whole key to smooth operation in these closed face spin cast type reels. There is only two
manufacturers out there that I know about. You'll never go back to the basic non oscillating type once you've owned
this type. I have been using these for several years now and will continue. One thing to keep in mind-- Don't put too
much line on. Line will seem to expand a little bit on the spool after use creating some drag. Operator error will usually
be to blame for any problems you have with these reels.
Ryan Moore : Smooooooth
Been using Zebcos for 30 years. I feel like a pro now. So smooth, feels high quality, lands large mouths without issue. Probably won’t fall apart in my hands like my last cheaper reel. I was skeptical until I actually tried it. I want a couple more now!
SHANGHI JIM : GOOD FOR BEGINNER FISHERMEN AND

Larry in Missouri : Great Panfish Reel
I've owned the bigger Z03 for a couple of years now. I recently bought this Z02 and put it on an Ultra-lite Ugly Stick and it makes a great crappie outfit. It casts light lures easily and smoothly and is instant on the retrieve. Great reel.
Brandonjay : Reliable
I’ve tore through many spincast reels. This one has lasted the longest. It’s also the most expensive. I would buy another
SDG : Good Metal Parts
Recently purchased this reel to complement a custom built rod to be used primarily for fishing Bluegills. It works like a dream. So far so good. Seems to be made very well and I am starting to have a better image of the Zebco Reels.
Amazon Customer : Best real hands down.
I own numerous reels from open cast to bait cast ! This reel beats them all on distance of cast and functionality I bought two and intend on buying several more. I like having my rods set up with different rigs...
Robert Poss : Excellent
Easy to use and no backlash. Perfect for kids.

Excellent
Joan Maggert : Great Gift !
Bought this for my husband ... He LOVED it !!!
Central IL : Great reel!
Great reel! Smooth and quiet!
carrie silvers : Got fish to catch!!
Reel is very smooth, we will put it through its paces soon enough. Price is a little steep but your paying for a quality reel!
abricru : Great for smaller fish, not recommended for lunkers
This is a light-weight reel, a little on the small size. The casting and retrieving are extremely smooth and it appears to be well constructed. I think this reel would be perfect for catching bluegills, crappie and small bass. Because of its small size, light weight, and ease of use, it would be ideal for a young or novice fisherman, although a little pricey.
My only problem came when hooking larger bass and catfish. I had a lot of trouble reeling bigger fish in and getting the drag to work properly.
It is a quality reel and I highly recommend. If you will be fishing for larger fish, something more heavy duty might be more appropriate.
Jack G. Jr. : Great little reel!!
The channel cats in my pond are now 3 pounders. My 5 year-old grandson reels them in with this little reel. It fits his small hands well and he can cast it... not far, but he can do it. Actually works smoother now than when I bought it six months ago.
ABH : Very smooth
Used twice so far. Will update the review in a few months. The only thing I'm not a fan of ifs the thumb button, I'm used to hard plastic and its some sort of softer "rubber" thumb release. Not sure how it will stand the test of time.
William James Love : Zebco does it again.
I have been using Zebco reels since the 50's. This is by far the best Zebco I have ever owned. Very well made with an excellent drag system. Casting just doesn't get any better. I love the double handle and the Aircraft aluminum body. This is a must for every tackle box. Very easy to use and built to last. Very well priced, handles better than reels costing much more. Thanks Zebco you have done it again..
larry metzdorf : Great panfish reel
Great panfish reel smooth retrieve the only bad thing is the drag always needs to be adjusted but I still recommend this reel.
Mission, BC : Smooth action reel
Quality reel built to last
CatDog : Nice reel
First spincast I've used in over 20 years. This one works very well. I can reach way out with 10lb mono. Retrieve ratio is a bit slow for some stick baits or top water lures like a jitterbug but overall a good reel.
Ericality : Big fisher
Great reel bought for my sister that cant use a baitcaster can still reel in big fish
pwe : Best on the market
This is by far the best spin cast on the market! I have probably 10 of them and this is the only spin cast I’ll own. I have two set up for bass fishing and they work great, I’ve caught a 6.5 pound bass on it with no problem!
JB : Won't Last!
I was pretty impressed with this little reel when I bought it for my 7 year old. Looked good, felt pretty good and casted ok. The cajun line was pretty horrible, so I upped the quality of the line. It worked great for the first few times out but it seems that the reel wears out pretty fast. We got into a pretty good frenzy of white bass over the course of a few days and after that the thing started locking up and getting rough on the retrieve and locking on the cast. I've taken it apart to clean, oil and grease several times. The pins look fine too, but the thing is too finicky to be fun. We fish quite a bit, so maybe this reel was designed for more of a "once a year" type of fisherman. That would be fine if it cost $9.99, but this reel is way too expensive for such poor quality. We have a couple of plastic Dock Demons that have lasted a lot longer than the Omega. I learned to fish with Zebco reels that were 20+ years old , but I guess the good old days are gone.
Monty Pearson : Crazy Awesome
This guy is unreal. It casts like butter. Reels like a dream. I have it on an Ugly Stick GX2 and this is a great set up. Going to get another. You should get one also.
Jimmy W. Ford : Outstanding Reel
One of Zebco's best kept secret's. I use this on a Ugly stick. I have been fishing all my life but I'm no professional. I catch catfish, bluegill, sunfish, small bass, all with this reel. This is one of the smoothest action reels I have ever used. Read the details, automatic anti reverse, 7 steel ball bearings, aluminum case etc. It's simply a very well made reel. Everything I catch is probably 5 pounds or under but this reel, with 10 pound test line on a ugly stick is simply awesome. Highly recommended. And By the way, I have 6 of these set up ready to go, yes I love fishing.
Tim Chappell : Not worth cost
Cast and crank is very smoth. However, rubber cast button moves during cast, throwing off accuracy greatly. Very disappointed in the design
larry metzdorf : Great panfish reel
Great panfish reel smooth retrieve the only bad thing is the drag always needs to be adjusted but I still recommend this reel.
Mission, BC : Smooth action reel
Quality reel built to last
Bill V. : Fell apart
Put rod & reel on 4 wheeler and rode over to pond... when I arrived the handle and other parts on the reel were gone...
James M. Dunnam : Nice upgrade from a basic fishing reel
After reading multiple reviews on Amazon and other vendors that sell reels I picked the Zebco for my son for his 27th birthday. We've just started fishing since he got out of the Navy and we only had the cheapest of the cheap reels. Some of my scoff at my last comment but many of us can't afford expensive boat and $150 - $500 reels just to go to a lake and fish off the bank or dock.
What it comes down to is:
* This reel cast very smoothly,
* This reel retrieves very smoothly.
* This reel has a "good feel"

BRough : Landed a 39" / 20 lbs + salmon no problem
I was out trolling for striped bass and was too lazy to switch out a trolling rig set up for bait fishing so I dropped a rattle trap on this rig (this reel plus collapsible pole) and set off. It got THUMPED with the clicker just buzzing. I tightened up the drag, and this is with the line that come pre-spooled on the reel, and fought what I thought was a decent size striper for probably 15 mins. Turns out it was 39" salmon, probably over 20 lbs. No joke, I had no problem handling it with this reel. /thumbs up!
Javila255 : Smmooooth as sssssilllllkkkkk!
I've been wetting lines on and off for about 50 years, but never often enough to bother shopping for quality tackle. 2 years ago I retired and moved to Bella Vista, Ar. We have 7 bass lakes and 8 golf courses. I do not golf. So off to fishing I went. Joined a couple of local bass clubs and realized that the old gear I had collecting dust in the garage was not going to make it with these groups and the competition. Bought myself a couple of Spinning Reels and a couple of Bait Casters.
Well, I soon put away the "nesting collecting-bait casters" and bought new Zebco 33 and a Abbu Garcia Spincast reel.....etc.... not very competitive gear.... had trouble with quality casts, etc...
Then I began looking for a quality Spin Cast reel that could give me a sense of ease and comfort and also accurate casts.
Viola! I found the Zebco Omega 3's and 2's and the "black" PRO models.
I don't think I will soon be trying to learn to throw a baitcaster. I have 5 of these units and will keep them at my side. I still use 2 spinning reels ($50 phluger's) and vary the line weights according to my learning curve...
I recommend the "black Pro" model for your heavier lures, such as cranks and spinners, or 3/4 oz and heavier jigs. Medium to medium heavy rods will do. You don't need 7footer-plus rods. 6.5ft rods will do just great.
The Zebcos are great for skipping under docks and low hanging branches. Not a nest to report after 1 year of using these sweethearts. Gotta getya some!
I love a good book : Best overall reel I've owned
I've been fishing for 25 years in Colorado. I've gone from $250 Pro Reels, to $15 Spider-Man poles but this is the best overall reel you can own. It's casts great, almost never tangles and is (relatively) cheap. I've since bought two more for my family to use and it allows me more time to fish, and less time messing with the reel and line. High quality and timeless design. Buy one (or three) immediately if you enjoy catching lots of fish and don't mind the ridicule "gear geeks" will inevitably dole out for having a closed reel.
Russell J : Nice reel
like reel so much I now have two. all metal and brass gears etc.
